US big banks hold early talks on joint crypto stablecoin: WSJ

by admin May 23, 2025

Some of the biggest banking companies in the US are reportedly exploring a team-up to launch a crypto stablecoin.

Companies owned by JPMorgan, Bank of America, Citigroup and Wells Fargo have discussed the possibility of jointly issuing a stablecoin, The Wall Street Journal reported on May 22, citing people familiar with the matter.

Other financial institutions linked to the potential stablecoin include Early Warning Services, the parent company of digital payments network Zelle, and the payment network Clearing House.

The discussions are still in the early stages, and a final decision on the project could change depending on the regulatory environment and the demand for stablecoins.

A JPMorgan spokesperson told Cointelegraph the company had no comment. Bank of America, CitiGroup, and Wells Fargo did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

On May 20, the US Senate voted 66-32 in favor of advancing discussion on the stablecoin-regulating Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for US Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act.

The bill outlines a regulatory framework for stablecoin collateralization and mandates compliance with Anti-Money Laundering laws. The bill is now headed to debate on the Senate floor.

Earlier this week, White House crypto czar David Sacks said he expects the bill will be passed and that it will receive bipartisan support.

However, high-ranking Democrats plan to amend the bill to include a clause prohibiting President Donald Trump and other US officials from profiting from stablecoins.

Trump and his family launched the crypto platform World Liberty Financial, which created the USD1 stablecoin in March. Critics argue that President Trump stands to personally benefit from passing favorable stablecoin regulation.

Stablecoin demand surges

The demand for stablecoins has been on the rise, with nation states adopting and institutions wanting to incorporate stablecoins.

The total market capitalization of stablecoins has shot up to $245 billion from $205 billion at the start of the year, representing a 20% increase.

Earlier this week, it was reported that yield-bearing stablecoins now account for nearly 4.5% of the entire stablecoin market, with a circulating supply of $11 billion.

Austin Campbell, a New York University professor and founder of Zero Knowledge Consulting, said the American banking lobby is “panicking,” as stablecoins can disrupt the traditional banking business model.

Earlier this month, it was reported that tech giant Meta is exploring ways to incorporate stablecoin payments into its platforms.

Crypto Is Still Early, Binance’s CZ Says

by admin May 22, 2025

  • What CZ got wrong
  • Crypto as the currency for AI

Changpeng Zhao, former chief executive officer at cryptocurrency exchange Binance, has opined that crypto is still early during a recent conversation with Real Vision founder Raoul Pal.

During his interview, he opined that nation-level Bitcoin adoption is only starting to kick off since only a handful of countries are talking to him.

So far, the rally has been driven primarily by exchange-traded funds, according to Zhao.

“It’s very hard to time the market. So far, the markets go on four-year cycles. Uh, but it’s very hard to tell, like, know if this one is going to be short—shorter or longer,” he noted.

What CZ got wrong

Notably, Binance did not expect to experience such tremendous growth within such a short period of time, but CZ has noted that the industry changes quickly.

“We got a lot of things wrong… We didn’t expect the growth we had,” he said.

CZ has admitted that he did not expect stablecoins and meme cryptocurrencies to become that big.

The former Binance boss is certain that blockchain and AI are easy to predict in the long term.

“I don’t predict industries, but the long term is easy to predict. Blockchain is going to be really really important. AI is going to be really really important,” he said.

Crypto as the currency for AI

During the interview, CZ also predicted that AI would be able to generate 10 times more tokens than humans.

“AI needs a lot of data to train… that data should be captured on the blockchain in a privacy-preserving way,” he said.

CZ has noted that AI will be transacting with other AIs, and the only way to make that payment is crypto.

“We may not be the profit drivers anymore. Economic engines will come from the AIs,” he said.

Here are the early LoL Patch 25.11 notes

by admin May 21, 2025

League of Legends has reached a rare “steady state” of balance with the last patch that Riot Games have introduced on the live servers, and they’re making small buffs and nerfs in the upcoming update to help champions stay healthy ahead of the MSI 2025.

League also showcases the Ionia-themed Summoner’s Rift this season, a region which is known for its balance and spirit realm. While there aren’t many rogue champions in the current meta, the developers are still keeping a close eye on champions who could use minor adjustments to make them relevant.

When does LoL Patch 25.11 release?

League updates usually release on Wednesdays, and it is the same for every upcoming patch. They usually come ahead of time on the PBE servers and then make their way to the live one. The patch 25.11 update is scheduled for May 28, 2025. While the official release times across all regions have yet to be confirmed, the expected release windows for each region are as follows:

  • 3pm CT (NA)
  • 5am GMT (EU West)
  • 3am CET (EU North East)
  • 8am KR (Korea)

What’s in Patch 25.11?

League is celebrating Pride. Image via Riot Games

While the last patch brought a myriad of changes to the mage items, this one’s fairly quiet on new changes, as it takes up champions like Rengar, Twitch, and other champions and gives them buffs. On the other hand, there are a few champions like Cho’Gath and Smolder, who got a bit too much power from the last patch, so Riot is giving them small nerfs to nullify their impact. Lastly, Kassadin, Samira and some other champions are getting some neutral changes without buffs and nerfs.

Champion buffs

The following champions will all be receiving buffs in League Patch 25.11:

Ashe

  • [Q] Ranger’s Focus: Now stacks when attacking structures.

Diana (Jungle)

She was very reliant on Liandrys, and she’s getting a little buff now to compensate for the changes to it.

  • [P] Moonsilver Blade: Monster mod increased from 2.25 to 2.6.

Rengar

  • [R] Thrill of the Hunt: Cooldown has been reduced from 110/100/90 to 100/90/80.

Ryze

  • [Q] Overload: Damage against Flux targets (based on R rank) has been increased from 10/40/70/100 percent to 35/50/75/100 percent.
  • [W] Rune Prison: Damage deceased from 80-200 to 70-190.

Sivir

  • [W] Ricochet: Total AD ratio has been increased from 30-50 to 40-50 percent.

Twisted Fate

  • [Q] Wild Cards: Damage increased from 60-240 to 70-240.

Twitch

The changes aim to steer AP Twitch toward farming lanes rather than being a support, improving his viability slightly while keeping him balanced overall. He remains a bit weak, but he isn’t out of the meta.

  • [E] Contaminate: AP ratio per stack has been increased from 30 to 35 percent.

Udyr

He was very reliant on Liandrys, and getting a little buff now to compensate for the changes to it.

[R] Wingborne Storm

  • Bonus damage on attack has been increased from 10-30+ 30 percent AP to 10-40+ 35 percent AP.
  • Total damage has been increased from 80-360 to 80-400.

Champion nerfs

The following champions will all be receiving nerfs in League Patch 25.11:

Cho’Gath

Armor growth has been reduced from 5.0 to 4.5.

Elise

  • [P] Spider Queen: On-hit AP ratio has decreased from .2 to .15.

Lucian

  • [E] Relentless Pursuit: Cooldown has been increased from 14-12 to 16-12.

Smolder

  • HP regen has been decreased from 4.5 to 3.75.
  • Armor has been reduced from 26 to 24.

Champion adjustments

The following champions will all be receiving adjustments in League Patch 25.11:

Aatrox

  • [P] Deathbringer Stance: Damage decreased from 4-12 percent max HP to 4-8 percent max HP.
  • [Q] The Darkin Blade: Sweet spot damage mod has been increased from 1.6x to 1.7x.
  • [W] Infernal Chains: Damage type has been changed from Magic to Physical.

Annie

  • Armor has been adjusted from 19+ 4.7 to 23+ 4.0.
  • [W] Incinerate: Damage has been decreased from 70-270 + .85 to .70-250 + .8.

Garen

The developer is making Garen’s non-crit and fighter-focused builds feel more rewarding. Moreover, a lower E cooldown aims to support sustained trades while preserving meaningful windows for opponents to react.

[E] Judgment

  • Cooldown has been adjusted from 9 to 9-6.
  • Damage has been increased from 4-20+ 0-8.2+36-40 percent total AD to 4-20+ 36-44 percent total AD.
  • Crit mod has been reduced from 1.5x to 1.4x.

[W] Courage

  • Cooldown has been reduced from 23-15 to 22-12.
  • Damage Reduction has been changed from 30 percent to 25-41 percent.
  • Quest capstone (10 percent total armor/MR) has been removed.

[R] Demacian Justice: Damage has been reduced from 150/300/450 + 25/30/35 percent missing HP to 150/250/350 + 25/30/35 percent missing HP.

Kassadin

Kassadin is getting a slight early game boost to help him contribute more before the late game by trimming some of his late-game power to balance it out. This change should make him more viable in high-skill games that heavily punish weak early laners.

Armor has been increased from 19-21.

  • [E] Force Pulse: Damage has been increased from 60-180 to 70-190.
  • [R] Riftwalk: AP ratio per stack 10 percent (max 90 percent) has been reduced to seven percent (max 78 percent).

Samira

These changes aim to enhance Samira’s lifesteal scaling to better support her snowball and teamfighting strengths, making builds like early Bloodthirster more appealing and giving her a clearer identity.

  • [Q] Flair: Life steal effectiveness has been increased from 66 to 80 percent.
  • [W] Blade Whirl: Bonus AD ratio has been reduced from .6 to .5.
  • [R] Inferno Trigger: Life steal effectiveness has been increased from 50 to 80 percent.

System Buffs

Horizon Focus

After the last patch balanced mage items, Horizon Focus still feels weak to the developer, so it gets a buff to make it more relevant alongside other items.

  • The price has been decreased from 2900 to 2800.
  • Ability power has been increased from 110 to 115.

These early Memorial Day 2025 tech deals can save you hundreds of dollars

by admin May 19, 2025

It’s the first big sales event of the summer — Memorial Day 2025 — falls on the last Monday in May, which is Monday the 26th. Primarily a day honoring military personnel who lost their lives serving in the U.S. armed forces, it has also become a large sales event in its own right for a variety of retailers.

Traditionally, a great time to pick up a deal on a new mattress, more and more tech companies and retailers have joined in on Memorial Day as the first big sales event of the summer. This is the warm-up to Prime Day and later in the year, Black Friday.

Memorial Day sales have already started popping up, and we’ve been busy compiling our favorite tech deals ahead of the actual day. We’ve found early deals from participating online retailers such as Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart, and Newegg. Keep checking back daily as we update and add more deals in the coming week and on Memorial Day itself.

Memorial Day Sale 2025: FAQS

When is Memorial Day?

This year, Memorial Day lands on Monday, 26th May, 2025. Memorial Day is always held on the last Monday in the month of May and honors all the men and women who died serving in the United States military.

Have the sales already started?

A few retailers and companies are already kicking up their Memorial Day sales promotions, but the majority don’t join in until the week before Memorial Day.

What’s on offer?

Good question… the answer is a little bit of everything. Traditionally, not a great holiday for tech deals, Memorial Day was always a good time to land a mattress deal, etc. But as the first real sales event of the year, more and more tech companies and retailers are jumping in to grab your cash with tempting discounts on your favorite tech items.
