Job losses might be likely due to AI but Nvidia’s CEO says the booming billion-dollar industry will always need more plumbers and electricians

by admin October 2, 2025

The explosion of generative AI over the last few years signals a change in the job market alongside it, and this brings with it worries of job instability and losses. With big players like Nvidia, Meta, X, and the governments worldwide further committing to AI, questions are posed to those at the very top.

In a recent interview with the British news channel, Channel 4, Nvidia’s CEO Jensun Huang, gave his thoughts on what’s next. He says, “If you’re an electrician, if you’re a plumber, if you’re a carpenter, we’re going to need hundreds of thousands of them. To build all of these factories.”

Huang argues, “The skilled craft segment of every economy is going to boom”.

“You’re going to have to build. You’re going to keep doubling and doubling… every single year.”

Just last week, Nvidia shared plans to spend $100 billion on OpenAI. This cash is intended to go towards greater supplies of data centre chips, to further train upcoming AI models. Just weeks before that, Nvidia’s earnings report showed it made almost 10 times more from AI than gaming. Nvidia’s stock price is also at an all-time high, over 10 times what it was half a decade ago.

OpenAI’s spending has also skyrocketed, alongside ChatGPT’s popularity, and the US government is firmly behind cementing “US dominance in artificial intelligence”. From a PC gaming perspective, we’ve even seen brands like Razer jump on the AI bandwagon. This is all to say AI doesn’t appear to be going away, and it has backing in the hundreds of billions.

When asked what could happen if the UK doesn’t ‘grasp this opportunity’, Huang says, “just as the last industrial revolution, the reason why it came about was because you needed it. And so the industrial revolution that started here in the UK came out of need. You need it now, too.”

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

Earlier this year, the UK’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology signed an agreement with OpenAI to push the chatbot into the public sector in a further bid to make the UK an AI powerhouse.

Though highlighting future employment seems relevant to current fears around the job market, this doesn’t address those who have degrees and experience in fields being replaced. Senator Bernie Sanders argued in June that “Artificial intelligence is going to displace millions and millions of workers”. A month after this, OpenAI’s Sam Altman shared that he thinks some jobs will be “totally, totally gone” due to AI. A former Google executive in August argued AI will lead to a “short-term dystopia” because it will struggle to create new jobs for those it is replacing.

Huang tells reporters, “You’re going to be building out AI infrastructure here in the UK for a decade,” but it’s not clear what the plan is for workers after that.

Moonlighter 2 delayed to November due to overstuffed October release schedule

by admin October 1, 2025

The early access release of Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault has been delayed by a month due to the amount of games being released in October.

Developer Digital Sun and publisher 11 Bit Studios had originally planned to release its RPG shop-sim adventure sequel on 23rd October, but now it’ll be out on 19th November.

October has “filled up with so many other great releases that we feel it has become too crowded for us” they wrote in a statement shared on Steam. “And as every wise shopkeeper knows, even the most precious gem can be overlooked in an overstuffed showcase.”

Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault | Early Access Date Reveal TrailerWatch on YouTube

In the meantime, closed playtests will run soon on Steam and the Microsoft Store, with details expected soon.

October’s release schedule is certainly looking stacked. The 23rd, specifically, sees the release of Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted, Once Upon a Katamari and Double Dragon Revive.

However, there are other big games due out the rest of the month, including:

  • Ghost of Yotei – 2nd October
  • Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 – 2nd October
  • Digimon Story: Time Stranger – 3rd October
  • Battlefield 6 – 10th October
  • Little Nightmares 3 – 10th October
  • Pokemon Legends: Z-A – 16th October
  • Jurassic World Evolution 3 – 21st October
  • Ninja Gaiden 4 – 21st October
  • Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 – 21st October
  • The Outer Worlds 2 – 29th October
  • Arc Raiders – 30th October
  • Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake – 30th October

Still, even with the move, Moonlighter 2 will now compete with Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 on 14th November.

While it’s certainly a wise move to not have quite so much competition on release, it’s near impossible to find a quiet release date to stand out with so many games released these days.

Plenty of games shifted release date in the wake of Hollow Knight: Silksong’s surprise launch, but has this set a worrying precedent?

Silksong’s surprise release in particular was described as “a little callous” by Hell is Us creative director Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, believing it impacted sales of the sci-fi adventure.

The early access release for Moonlighter 2 was announced back in August. The game is a follow-up to 2018’s Moonlighter, and sees a shift from top-down to 3D worlds.

Cool Terminator Game Delayed Again Due To Trump’s Tariffs

by admin September 30, 2025

Terminator 2D: No Fate is an upcoming video game adaptation of the original ’90s action movie sequel that is designed to look, sound, and play like classic 2D games from that era. No Fate looks really awesome. But sadly, due to ongoing tariffs enacted by President Donald Trump, this cool-looking Terminator game has been delayed (again) from October to November.

On September 28, Terminator 2D: No Fate publisher Reef Entertainment and developer Bitmap Bureau announced that the upcoming side-scrolling action game was being delayed a second time until November 26. In a statement posted to the publisher’s official website, the company blamed the delay on “ongoing global trade and tariff changes” that caused shipping issues with components needed to produce the Day One and Collector’s Editions versions of the game. And because the studio and publisher want to ship the game to all platforms and users at the same time, No Fate’s release date was pushed back. This delay affects digital and physical copies worldwide.

“We truly appreciate your patience and understanding, and we’re sorry for this further delay,” said Reef Entertainment. “The team is working hard to make sure your wait is worth it, and we can’t wait to share Terminator 2D: No Fate with you all this November.”

This isn’t the first delay for Terminator 2D: No Fate. In July, the 2D action platformer based on James Cameron’s iconic action flick starring Arnold Schwarzenegger was delayed from its initial release date of September 5 to October 31, just in time for Halloween. But that’s not happening anymore, and you can directly blame Trump, who continues to screw around with tariffs haphazardly, causing global chaos for those trying to buy, ship, or import products or resources to the United States.

Pokimane, Valkyrae & QTCinderella “afraid” to attend TwitchCon due to safety concerns

by admin September 23, 2025

Twitch stars Pokimane, Valkyrae, and QTCinderella have revealed that they have safety concerns when it comes to attending TwitchCon in October.

TwitchCon is Twitch’s annual celebration of streamers. Top content creators get together, along with fans and Twitch staff to celebrate the past year, and look ahead to what’s coming next.

The meet and greets between fans and streamers have regularly been moderated by Twitch itself. However, with many creators streaming their days at TwitchCon, there are plenty of chances to bump into them along the way too.

This has created a number of safety concerns for streamers, with a few like Pokimane having reservations about attending the 2025 event in San Diego. “It does worry me that it might not be safe and it be better to skip out on it,” she told viewers.

Poki admitted that she hadn’t made a decision about going, but noted it could be “scary” to be around potentially “hateful” people.

The OfflineTV star had been responding to QTCinderella and Valkyrae who, during an episode of Wine About It, admitted they had concerns too.

“I’m kind of afraid to go to TwitchCon,” Rae said as QT noted they are supposed to host a live episode of their podcast. “I have given them a soft ‘hey, we’re in a bit of a panic mode right now’” QT said.

QT also noted that she considered dropping all her in-person obligations after a female Japanese streamer was attacked during a broadcast. “It just takes one person,” Valkyrae added.

After that episode went live, Rae announced that the pair would not be attending or recording their planned live show.

“I’m just really uncomfortable with the world right now,” the 100 Thieves co-owner said. “I don’t feel safe, I’m just uncomfortable, you know? It’s crazy times.”

The Wine About It hosts did promise to make it up to fans, however, likely through a Wine About It live stream.

The event, which has always been well secured, is set to take place on October 17-19. It remains to be seen if top streaming stars will drop out.

Lenovo abruptly cancels some Legion Go 2 preorders due to overwhelming demand

by admin September 21, 2025

From a disastrous AMA on Monday to disappointing Legion Go 2 preorder customers on Friday, the Lenovo team is having a hell of a week. To kick things off, the Lenovo Legion team hosted an AMA on Reddit revolving around its gaming handheld launch. The Legion Go 2 generated a ton of hype, being Lenovo’s next-gen gaming handheld with more powerful specs and a higher price tag, but the team only answered 10 questions before abandoning the thread. On Wednesday, Lenovo apologized for not being prepared enough to answer all the questions, but followed it up with a bombshell in an edit posted on Friday, adding that “we will need to cancel some preorders placed directly on Lenovo.com” for the Legion Go 2.

According to the Lenovo team, the demand “substantially exceeded our projections” and led to “unforeseen delivery range extensions.” While the orders with Lenovo’s retail partners, like Best Buy, aren’t affected, anyone who preordered the Legion Go 2 directly on the Lenovo website may see some frustrating news in their inboxes. The cancellations might not be a total shocker, since some user reports are circulating that Lenovo already pushed initial ship dates from September to October with “zero communication about the delay.”

To try to save face, Lenovo explained that “as soon as our inventory is replenished, Lenovo.com will show updated availability and ordering will reopen.” There’s no indication yet if those with canceled orders will get priority with the next batch of available devices, but the Lenovo team said it would respond to the AMA thread’s questions over the rest of the month. However, if Reddit comments are any indication, there’s a good chance a lot of customers won’t reorder following this catastrophic launch.

Big Tech Tells H-1B Workers Not to Leave Country Due to Trump’s New Policy

by admin September 21, 2025

Donald Trump’s announcement on Friday that his administration will impose a $100,000 annual fee on H1-B visa applications, which allows foreign laborers in specialty occupations to work in the United States, has sent industries and governments into a spiral of confusion. With the policy set to go into effect Sunday, Big Tech companies are reportedly telling H-1B holders in their workforces to either remain in the United States or return from overseas before the new policy is enacted, according to CNBC.

According to the report, Amazon sent a memo to its employees advising workers on an H-1B or H-4 visa holders (given to dependent family members of H-1B workers) to return from overseas before 12:01 a.m. ET on September 21. Microsoft reportedly sent out a similar message, warning its employees that the Trump administration’s policy is “structured as a travel restriction” and international travel could put their worker status at risk. It advised H-1B visa holders to cancel future travel plans and remain in the US “for the foreseeable future.”

Tech firms are by far the biggest users of the H-1B visa program. Five of the top six employers of H-1B workers are Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Apple, and Google, according to data from Citizenship and Immigration Services. Under the new rules, which would require either the H-1B visa holder or their sponsor to pay $100,000 annually to keep the work permit active, Amazon could, in theory, be staring down a $1 billion bill every year to keep the more than 10,000 H-1B visa holders it currently employs in its workforce.

But tech is also far from the only industry that counts on specialized labor from overseas. According to the Business Standard, over 30% of medical residents in the United States are international graduates, and between 10,000 to 43,000 residency spots are currently filled by H-1B visa holders. There is an ongoing doctor shortage in the country that was expected to worsen without new restrictions. The Association of American Medical Colleges projected a shortage of 20,200 to 40,400 primary care doctors by 2036, prior to the new H-1B fees.

It’s not just industry players freaking out, either. Foreign governments are scrambling to respond to the new policy, with little lead time to sort through all the details. “This measure is likely to have humanitarian consequences by way of the disruption caused for families. Government hopes that these disruptions can be addressed suitably by the U.S. authorities,” India’s Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. South Korea’s foreign ministry also said it is sorting out the potential implications for Korean workers, per CNBC.

The Trump administration, as has become customary for its policy prescriptions, is spending the day trying to sort out the ill-defined information it initially provided. Axios reported that officials have clarified the new H-1B visa fees won’t apply to existing holders of valid visas re-entering the country, so workers should be able to get back to the country without getting hit with a $100,000 fee. Reportedly, the fee won’t go into effect until the next cycle of new applicants to the H-1B program. Whether visa holders want to risk taking this administration at its word is another question.

Google Maps wasn’t loading in some regions due to an outage

by admin September 12, 2025

Google Maps suffered an outage that left the mobile version of the service unable to fully load its map or provide directions. Over 4,000 reports were filed on Downdetector since the outage started, and Google’s Status Dashboard noted that the company was investigating an issue with the Maps SDK and Navigation SDK at 3:34PM ET. By 6:27PM ET, Google said the issue has been resolved and that it will publish an “analysis of this incident” once it has completed its internal investigation.

At the peak of the outage, both the Android and iOS versions of Google Maps were unable to fully load a map, display listings or provide directions. In at least one case, the apps also showed an error message saying that Google Maps “Cannot reach server.” Whatever caused the outage hasn’t extend to the web version of the navigation service, which continues to work as normal.

Ian Carlos Campbell for Engadget

Google’s dashboard updated to say that “mitigation work is currently underway by our engineering team” and that it was “seeing indications of recovery” at around 5:22PM ET. Around 30 minutes later, the company said that the issue was partially resolved, but that it couldn’t share “an ETA for full resolution at this point.”

In the description of the issue on Google’s Status Dashboard, Google has yet to provide an explanation for the outage or detailed what it’s doing to fix the issue. Engadget has contacted Google for more information and will update this article if we here back.

Google’s last major outage occurred in June, though it was primarily concentrated in the company’s Google Cloud service. Given the number of clients who use Google Cloud, the outage impacted everything from Spotify to Snapchat for multiple hours.

Update, September 11, 2025, 6:09PM ET: Updated article again to include details from Google’s Status Dashboard.

Update, September 11, 2025, 5:38PM ET: Updated article to include new information shared on Google’s Status Dashboard.

Update, September 11, 2025 9:51PM ET: Updated article to note that the issue has been resolved.

MotoE, the electric bike world championship, is going on hiatus due to lack of interest

by admin September 11, 2025

The International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) and MotoGP are putting the MotoE electric bike world championship on hiatus following the 2025 season. The organizations cite a lack of viewership and an electric performance motorcycle market that “has not developed as expected.”

“Today we announce the suspension of the FIM MotoE World Championship,” FIM President Jorge Viegas said in a statement. “Despite all the best efforts to promote this innovative category together with (MotoGP rights holder) Dorna, the truth is that we haven’t reached our objectives, nor has the industry associated with performance electric bikes.”

There are two more races remaining in the 2025 MotoE season. The indefinite hiatus begins after that. MotoGP and the FIM said they would continue monitoring the industry to suss out when electric bikes become relevant enough to once again sustain a robust event schedule.

MotoE’s inaugural year was in 2019, starting with just six four-round races throughout the season. It had some buzz at the beginning, as the circuit expanded to 16 eight-round races. However, this was cut back to seven rounds in 2025.

Ducati provided the race bikes for all teams in the MotoE class after replacing Energica Ego Corsa in 2023. These electric bikes reached top speeds of 171 MPH and, obviously, had just enough range to complete a full race. Traditional MotoGP bikes hit speeds of up to 224 MPH.

Silksong reviews drop to mostly negative for Chinese players due to confusing translations

by admin September 8, 2025

For most Hollow Knight: Silksong players, the combat is challenging and the boss fights are punishing. However, there’s another layer of complexity for anyone playing the sequel in Simplified Chinese: the bizarre translations. On its Steam store page, Silksong currently sits at a “Mostly Positive” rating across reviews in all languages. Once you filter for the Simplified Chinese reviews, the Metroidvania-style game plummets to “Mostly Negative.”

There are plenty of complaints about Silksong being too hard and not rewarding enough, but the translation issues are a common theme across the reviews for Simplified Chinese. In the reviews and comments, players compared the translations to a jarring mix of ancient and modern Chinese. Tiger Tang, who worked on the Simplified Chinese translation of an indie RPG called OMORI, posted on X that the “translation reads like a Wuxia novel instead of conveying the game’s tone,” referencing the literary genre that features martial arts and is often set in ancient China.

The good news is that the team behind Silksong is aware of the translation issues, as indicated by Matthew Griffin, who handles the game’s marketing and publishing. Griffin posted on X that the team is aware of “quality issues with the current Simplified Chinese translation” and that they are “working to improve the translation over the coming weeks.” When looking at the original Hollow Knight, the reviews are overwhelmingly positive, even when looking at the Simplified Chinese reviews. However, Silksong credits a team of two for its Chinese localization, while the original featured six.

Star Wars Outlaws’ Switch 2 Game Key Card Is Due To Tech Issues

by admin September 6, 2025

The Switch 2’s game key cards have proven a source of extreme consternation since the launch of Nintendo’s latest console. Physical carts in plastic boxes that don’t actually contain the game at all, making a mockery of game preservation and the entire purpose of owning a physical copy of your game. The reason for their use is usually presumed to be cost, given how expensive a 64GB Switch card is for a publisher (apparently $23 each!), and that Nintendo right now is not offering a smaller option to publishers. However, in the case of Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws it seems it’s due to a more significant weakness of the Switch 2.

So far, tech geeks are super-impressed with how Ubisoft has managed to get such a large, complex open-world game working on the handheld console. As much of a step up from the original Switch as the Switch 2 might be, it’s still not exactly cutting-edge technology, and the requirements to be able to run on a handheld device can be restrictive. So great work by all involved! However, Outlaws has become yet another entry in the very long list of games releasing with nothing but a game key on an otherwise blank cart, and understandably people are narked about spending $60 to buy a pile of empty plastic.

More than anything else, it’s the knowledge that Nintendo absolutely will one day switch off the eStore that processes the keys to allow the games to be downloaded. As with every previous generation of digital store, the servers will go away, and the purchased games will disappear into the ether. This leaves people either looking at emulation (which Nintendo deeply loathes), or re-buying the same game again when it’s released as a “Classic” download on the newer device (where, hilariously, Nintendo makes it available via emulation). This all enormously sucks. So yes, one day your copy of Star Wars Outlaws Switch 2 will be nothing but a very bad-tasting SD card.

Except, it seems in this particular instance this isn’t an act of cost-cutting on a premium-price game. (For whatever reason, Nintendo has only offered 64GB cards for the Switch 2, driving up production costs and encouraging many to resort to key cards instead.) However, according to Rob Bantin (thanks Nintendo Life), the audio architect on Outlaws‘ engine Snowdrop, it’s because the streaming speeds between the Switch 2 carts and the console just aren’t fast enough to run the game properly. And that seems like it could be a big deal.

Digital Foundry‘s John Linneman posted on BlueSky to report how impressed he was with the port, reposting VGC‘s video about the tech, adding that DF has its own video on the way. Others replied, one person pointing out that the game is somehow only 20.2GB, but another expressing disdain that it’s a key card. After a bit of back and forth, Rob Bantin entered the conversation and revealed all.

“Snowdrop relies heavily on disk streaming for its open world environments,” said Bantin. “And we found the Switch 2 cards simply didn’t give the performance we needed at the quality target we were going for.” In other words, the game needs to be fully installed on the console’s SSD drive to be able to run properly. The audio architect continued, “I don’t recall the cost of the cards ever entering the discussion – probably because it was moot.”

It’s hard to know how big of an issue this is going to be for the Switch 2 over the next seven or eight years of its likely life, but given a 2024 port can’t run off the card because of speed limitations, other larger, open-world games could share some similar issues. We’re talking about games releasing in 2030 after all. However, Bantin offers some optimism. “I think if we designed a game for Switch 2 from the ground up it might have been different,” they added. “As it was, we’d build [sic] a game around the SSDs of the initial target platforms, and then the Switch 2 came along a while later. In this case I think our leadership made the right call.”

We’re stepping beyond my nerdy understanding here, but from my research the Switch 2 cards are limited to 400MB/s transfer rates, while the Switch 2’s SSD can offer close to 900MB/s. So that’s a obviously a significant difference. However, it’s crucial to note that Cyberpunk 2077 runs from its game card at 400MB/s, and there are few complaints there. So if games are intentionally designed for the Switch 2’s card limitations, this might not be a frequent issue? But, again, it does mean that releasing a cross-platform game could require a huge amount of heavy lifting to make a version that runs from a card, when the PlayStation, Xbox and PC versions will all be installing to SSD. (Why Nintendo doesn’t allow SSD installation from game cards is another massive question, and seemingly a very obvious solution.) And, let’s not forget, the Switch 2 will be overlapping the second half of its life with the inevitable PlayStation 6 and Xbox Series 2.

It’s all a pretty pickle for developers looking to release big games on the Switch 2, without pissing off audiences and rendering their games ethereal.
