Jubilation, chaos, and a lot of screaming: inside a Hollow Knight community Discord as the Silksong release date finally hit

by admin August 21, 2025

30-minutes until the live reveal of the latest Hollow Knight: Silksong trailer, the Hollow Knight: Silksong Daily News Discord server is packed. Almost a hundred people are sitting in a single voice channel, chatting away, cracking jokes. In less than an hour, they’ll blow out my earphones.

Prior to the release date trailer, the regular gags are thrown out perhaps for the final time. The game will be announcing a delay, one person meekly chirps. Another boisterous and proud, declares that Team Cherry had tweeted something, lying as easily as he breathed.

“Why are there so many people on this call?” one user asks. “How many are in the official Silksong Discord?” unaware that the official Hollow Knight Discord had locked its voice channels, making Silksong Daily News the go-to spot for live reactions.

You can watch the release date trailer for Hollow Knight: Silksong here!Watch on YouTube

In the few minutes leading to the reveal, shock reactions at 160,000, then 200,000 people flocking to the YouTube trailer stream flow constant and jubilant through the voices of eager fans. Discord user Kelton closes down the Itch.io Silksong fan game, and settles in to watch. Everyone quickly mutes themselves as the YouTube timer nears zero, others are told to shut up.

The timer hits zero, only for another three minute timer to appear. Everyone unmutes again. Some claps, an “oh my god”, scattered laughter. Someone notices that 260,000 people are now watching live, and renewed cries for muted mics are made by leaders of the pack. Discord user Schmalamph states: “after so many years it’s finally time”, before shifting up with a “Silksong 2034” gag to the chat’s amusement.

Then, the trailer starts, and it’s beautiful. Gasps and meek cheers pop out between cuts. The map is shown and people start to get riled up, “holy shits” get thrown out as Hornet flips around platforms and enemies alike. The volume rises steadily with each new line in the trailer, over 200 enemies, over 40 bosses. At this point, I should have turned the volume down.

Then, the trailer fades to black, and September 4 creeps into frame. Everyone unmutes at once and screams. They cheer and yell and one guy does what sounds like a war cry. Some European fella starts singing September by Earth, Wind, & Fire. Then, very few leave. They stick around and celebrate while pouring through the trailer frame-by-frame. As the dissection of every detail, every nugget of information continues, I take my leave with sore eardrums.

This experience, hanging out in a Hollow Knight: Silksong Discord and listening in to the jokes, the joy, and the post-trailer merriment is to me what video game fandom is all about. It’s hearing people who have been starved of information for years finally learn that not only is the wait almost over, it’s over in two weeks. It’s knowing that some stranger across the world now has to phone their boss and try to get time off work for a video game, and knowing you’re tempted to do the same.

So here’s to the Hollow Knight fans, whose wait is almost over. All that’s left is to hope the game isn’t bad. God, could you imagine?

‘Play Instantly on Discord’: Fortnite will be Nvidia and Discord’s first instant game demo

by admin August 18, 2025

Nvidia’s GeForce Now is getting a big upgrade next month — and it’s also part of an intriguing new experiment. Nvidia, Discord, and Epic Games have teamed up for an early test of instant game demos for Discord servers, which could theoretically let you immediately try a game without buying it, downloading it, or signing up for an account.

“You can simply click a button that says ‘try a game’ and then connect your Epic Games account and immediately jump in and and join the action, and you’ll be playing Fortnite in seconds without any downloads or installs,” says Nvidia product marketing director Andrew Fear.

Here’s a screenshot of what it might look like, from an Nvidia video, which also shows the Fortnite demo is currently limited to a 30-minute free trial:

It doesn’t sound completely frictionless if you still need an Epic Games account to play, and it’s not clear if Nvidia, Epic and Discord will offer the demo outside of Gamescom just yet. Nvidia is calling it a “technology announcement” rather than a confirmed feature, one that’ll hopefully see game publishers and developers reach out if they’re interested in potentially adding it to their games.

After Sony bought Gaikai in 2012, it initially suggested it would offer instant try-before-you-buy game demos on the PlayStation 4 too, but that never happened. Years later, Gaikai’s founder told me that publishers didn’t necessarily want it.

Malicious Discord invites are targeting gamers with fake servers, stolen wallets, and malware disguised as game hacks

by admin June 21, 2025

  • Cybercriminals are recycling expired Discord links to launch silent, devastating multi-stage malware attacks
  • A fake Discord bot tricks users into running PowerShell commands disguised as CAPTCHA fixes
  • Old community invite links now lead to malware servers stealing your data and digital assets

Cybercriminals are increasingly exploiting a lesser-known flaw in Discord’s invitation system to target unsuspecting users, particularly gamers, new research has claimed.

A report from researchers from Check Point found attackers manage to register previously valid invite links with custom vanity URLs.

The tactic involves hijacking once legitimate and trusted expired or deleted Discord invite links and redirecting them to malicious servers hosting multi-stage malware campaigns.

From trusted links to dangerous redirects

These hijacked links, often embedded in old forum posts, community pages, or social media, are being used to silently funnel users to Discord servers operated by threat actors.

Once on these fake servers, users are greeted with what appears to be a standard verification process.

A bot named “Safeguard” prompts visitors to click a “Verify” button, which initiates an OAuth2 process and redirects them to a phishing site.

The site employs a social engineering method called “ClickFix,” where users are tricked into copying and running a PowerShell command under the guise of fixing a broken CAPTCHA.

This action silently launches the malware installation chain, with the attackers using cloud services such as Pastebin, GitHub, and Bitbucket to deliver the payloads in multiple stages, allowing them to blend into normal network traffic.

Initial scripts download executables that retrieve further encrypted payloads, which include AsyncRAT, a tool that gives attackers remote control over infected systems, and a tailored variant of the Skuld Stealer designed to extract credentials and cryptocurrency wallet data.

Gamers have become a prime target, with campaigns even disguising malware as tools like The Sims 4 DLC unlockers – one archive named Sims4-Unlocker.zip was downloaded over 350 times, highlighting the campaign’s reach.

Through clever evasion techniques such as delayed execution and command-line argument checks, the malware often bypasses detection from even the best antivirus software.

The threats extend beyond typical malware infections. The Skuld Stealer used in these attacks can extract crypto wallet seed phrases and passwords, effectively granting full control over victims’ digital assets.

Considering the focus on cryptocurrency theft and credential harvesting, individuals should reinforce their defenses with robust identity theft protection services.

These tools can monitor for unauthorized use of personal information, alert users to breaches, and assist in recovering compromised digital identities.

While some might assume that endpoint protection tools would shield them from these tactics, the multi-layered, modular structure of the attack often flies under the radar.

To stay safe, users must be wary of Discord invite links, especially those embedded in old content. Also, avoid running unexpected scripts or following suspicious verification steps.

Google services are experiencing a partial outage
Product Reviews

Spotify, Discord, Snapchat and more were down for hours

by admin June 13, 2025

Google Cloud experienced outages today that led to disruptions for many online services. Reports of issues for Google products and others began around 2 PM ET. The company was able to restore function to its own apps, but several other businesses have continued to experience problems for some users.

In an update at 4:16PM ET, Google said, “We have identified the root cause and applied appropriate mitigations. Our infrastructure has recovered in all regions except us-central1. Google Cloud products that rely on the affected infrastructure are seeing recovery in multiple locations. Our engineers are aware of the customers still experiencing issues on us-central1 and multi-region/us and are actively working on full recovery. We do not have an ETA for full recovery.”

Spotify, Discord, Snapchat, Etsy, UPS and OpenAI all experienced a high volume of reports on DownDetector, with some informing users of disruptions. Even the Pokemon Trading Card Game and Pokemon Go weren’t spared issues. Snapchat acknowledged the ongoing issues on its support page. OpenAI has posted that users may have trouble logging in due to “issues affecting multiple external internet providers.” AWS also experienced a higher-than-usual volume of reports on DownDetector during the outage, but Amazon clarified in a statement to Engadget that it has no broad service issues and noted that its AWS Health Dashboard is a better indicator of its current status than DownDetector.

Almost all services have now returned to normal operation. By 5PM ET, Spotify’s main page loaded for our editors and reports of outages on DownDetector had fallen back to close to their baseline. Other platforms like Snapchat and Discord also seemed to be functioning normally for us. Google said at the time that its products were coming back online across multiple regions and that it expected the recovery to be complete “in less than an hour.” However, as of 7:13PM ET, the company noted that several Google Cloud components were still experiencing “residual impact.” Google Cloud Dataflow, Vertex AI Online Prediction and Personalized Service Health are all still somewhat affected, and the company has not provided a timeline for when everything will be back to normal.
