Nintendo Is Holding a 45-Minute Kirby Air Riders Direct On Tuesday

by admin August 19, 2025

Nintendo shared an update in its Nintendo Today app this morning that it will be live-streaming a Kirby Air Riders-focused Direct presentation on Tuesday, August 19.

“Tune in on Tuesday, August 19, for a livestreamed Kirby Air Riders Direct featuring about 45 minutes of information about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 game.”

The app then suggests you add the even to your calendar which reveals it will air at 8 a.m. CT.

Kirby Air Riders is the follow-up to the GameCube game, Kirby Air Rider (notice how the sequel is plural, like Aliens). Arguably one of the most interesting details about the game is that it is helmed by Masahiro Sakurai, the director of the Super Smash Bros. series, and the creator of Kirby. This will mark the first time Sakurai has actively worked on a dedicated Kirby game since the original Kirby Air Rider in 2003.

The description for the YouTube location where the Direct will air promises an appearance from Sakurai reading, “Join us on Aug 19 at 6 a.m. PT for a Kirby Air Riders Direct with director Mr. Sakurai. The livestreamed presentation will last roughly 45 minutes and provide an in-depth look at the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 game.”

Kirby Air Riders currently does not have a release date beyond the vague 2025.

Has a video games series had a bigger impact on people than the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series? Talk to anyone who was playing video games and growing up in the late 90s/early 00s and I bet most of them have fond memories of those early games.

Chris is well into Space Marines and that, and he has a special place in his heart for the Dawn of War series. The original game was a little tricky to get running nicely on modern hardware, but the newly released Definitive Edition fixes all that and comes with a bunch of new refinements and tweaks.

To quote Chris, verbatim, from a definitely real conversation I had with him about Dawn of War: “It’s orksome.” What more do you need to be told?

Connor has been on the blower to moan about how sad he is that the Battlefield 6 beta has finished. “Don’t worry,” I said in reply, cutting through his tears. “You can just play Battlefield 2042 and earn some stuff to use in Battlefield 6.”

He turned to me (not that I could see as we were on a phone call, not a video call), and he said: “Tom, you are so wise. I will play Battlefield 2042 as I am the exact target audience for this type of marketing campaign. I’ll also write up my thoughts on such an event in a story to publish on Eurogamer.net.”

Thanks, Connor. Here is that story:

Today’s Blast from the Past: Flights, Co-op Tomb Raiding, and more

Another day presents another opportunity for us to look back at gaming history. Here’s some milestone anniversaries for today, 18th August:

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator’s grand reboot leads the pack of gaming anniversaries today – the reimagining of the franchise first released five years ago. I recieved the coveted Eurogamer Essential, back when that was the parlance – and it sits alongside Animal Crossing as a perfect game for the then all-consuming pandemic, allowing a sort of digital tourism at a time when we were all trapped inside. It’s a shame that the much more content-rich 2024 edition has run into various troubles, but hopefully that team can eventually recapture the spirit of the 2020 edition over time.
  • Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is fifteen years old today. A cool, well-reviewed spin-off of the franchise inspired by the likes of Diablo and Gauntlet, it first launched for Xbox 360’s Live Arcade and then made its way to PS3, PC, and even mobile. It brings to mind that era when downloadables were always smaller, bite-sized games, which led to interesting spin-offs of big-name brands like this – something we now don’t see as often. A shame.
  • And here’s a trio of further recent anniversaries: Rogue Legacy 2, Mortal Shell, and Spiritfarer all hit on this day in 2020 – the same day as Flight Simulator! There was clearly something in the water on this day five years ago. I’m also now just realizing I can’t write “on that day five years ago”, or a variation thereof, without hearing this.

Liked this one quite a bit folks.

It’s the latest from Giant Squid, the developer behind Abzu and The Pathless, with creative director Matt Nava having also worked heavily on Journey as art director back in the day. He teams up again with renowned game composer Austin Wintory here. It’s a game that mixes a bit of light Zelda-ing with serene platforming, ludicrously pretty views and a sense of movement, mindfulness and flow that’s right up there with very best of ’em. Big fat five stars from me.

Mortal Kombat movie is 30 years old today

As the clock ticks ever closer to 5pm in the UK and I can see the fajitas I’m about to cook for my dinner drift into view, now is the perfect time to remember the original Mortal Kombat movie which turns 30 today. I know this film has gained a large following in the years since its release, but I never liked it that much. That said, it probably captured the video games better than the recent movie did. You can’t say anything negative about this music, though, which is superb.

That’s your lot for today. Big day tomorrow, everyone, so don’t stay up too late tonight. Chances are there’ll be at least one good game shown during Gamescom ONL, which kicks off at 7pm BST tomorrow – although there is supposedly also a bit of a pre-show before that.

Thanks for joining us today. See you all tomorrow.

A Nintendo Direct focused on Kirby Air Riders is set for August 19

by admin August 18, 2025

Nintendo has a few major first-party Nintendo Switch 2 games lined up for the rest of the year. One of those is Kirby Air Riders, a sequel to the 2003 GameCube title Kirby Air Ride. The company is set to reveal much (much) more about what it has in store for the new game, as it has lined up a dedicated Nintendo Direct. You’ll be able to watch the showcase, which was first announced via the Nintendo Today! app, at 9AM ET on August 19. You won’t have to go hunting for it on Nintendo’s channel either, as you can click the big red button on the YouTube video above.

The stream will run for about 45 minutes and “provide an in-depth look at the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 game,” according to the company. On the surface, that seems like a very long showcase for a single game by Nintendo standards, considering that it’s able to rip through a couple of dozen game reveals (or more) in a regular Direct that’s as long or shorter. The recent Direct for Donkey Kong Bananza clocked in at just under 18 minutes and had a ton of info about that game.

However, if you’ve ever seen a character reveal for game director Masahiro Sakurai’s previous project, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, you’ll be aware that the man tends to get into the nitty gritty. After all, the deep dive into the final SSBU fighter, Sora from Kingdom Hearts, is 42 minutes long. So a 45-minute Direct for a whole new Sakurai game suddenly doesn’t seem as excessive.

A release date for Kirby Air Riders seems like a safe bet for this Direct. The timing of the showcase is pretty interesting too, as it will air just before Gamescom gets underway. Perhaps Kirby Air Riders will be playable at Nintendo’s booth at the event.

Kirby Air Riders Nintendo Direct Coming Tuesday, Will Run A Whopping 45 Minutes

by admin August 18, 2025

A Nintendo Direct has been scheduled for tomorrow–the third one in the past month–this time focusing on a single game: Kirby Air Riders. Much like how his Super Smash Bros. Ultimate presentations went, game director Masahiro Sakurai will be hosting this particular Direct.

According to the livestream’s description, it will “provide an in-depth look at the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 game,” and will be roughly 45 minutes long, which is longer than both of the previous two Directs combined. It kicks off at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET / 2 PM BST, and you’ll be able to watch it on Nintendo’s official YouTube channel.

Now Playing: Kirby Air Riders – Official Reveal Trailer | Nintendo Switch 2

Kirby Air Riders was announced back in April during a Nintendo Direct that revealed a bevy of Nintendo Switch 2 games, though at the time all that was shown off was a pre-rendered trailer. Not much is known about this sequel, but with tomorrow’s Direct running at around 45 minutes, that will soon change. The game will also mark the first time Sakurai has directed a Kirby title since the original Air Rider for the GameCube.

Nintendo hasn’t held a traditional Direct since its full Switch 2 reveal, instead opting for a Partner Showcase in July and an Indie World Showcase earlier this month. The Partner Showcase didn’t have too many massive reveals, though it did include a new Monster Hunter Stories, Katamari, and a fresh look at Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. The Indie World Showcase was on the quieter side too, but still well worth a look for some neat upcoming titles.

NASA’S James Webb Space Telescope has captured its first direct image of an exoplanet

by admin June 25, 2025

NASA’S James Webb Space Telescope has captured direct images of a planet outside of our solar system, which is the first time it has accomplished such a feat. This is a very big deal because exoplanets don’t put out much light, so researchers typically discover new planets through indirect methods like keeping track of shadows as they pass across a host star.

Webb, however, didn’t have to do all that. It has directly captured images of a planet called TWA 7 b. Scientists believe the planet is around the mass of Saturn and is located 100 light years away from Earth.

The planet is much further away from its star than Earth, so it has a wider orbital period that lasts several hundred years. The planetary system is thought to be around 6 million years old, so we are really getting a snapshot into the early stages of its development. Our sun is considered to be middle-aged and is around 4.6 billion years old.

TWA 7 b is ten times smaller than any previous exoplanet to be directly observed with a telescope, according to The Guardian. Typically, planets of this size can’t be seen by telescopes, as the light from the host star masks direct observation.

The research team, led by Dr. Anne-Marie Lagrange, got around this by making a telescopic attachment that mimicked the results of a solar eclipse. This reduced much of the light emanating from the star to make it easier to observe surrounding objects.

The process allowed the team to spot the planet, which appears as a bright source of light with a narrow ring of debris. Lagrange and her team do note that there’s still a “very small chance” the images show a background galaxy, but the evidence “strongly points” to the source being a previously undiscovered planet.

The first exoplanet was first discovered in 1992. Since that time, nearly 6,000 more have been spotted. Again, the vast majority of these have not been captured with direct imaging.

This is just the latest stunning discovery by our good friend James Webb. It recently captured a cosmic phenomenon called an “Einstein Ring,” which is when light from one galaxy is bent around the mass of another. Last year, the telescope found the most distant galaxy ever observed.

You can have a “direct impact” on Crusader Kings 3’s future, and get a few hints to where the grand strategy is heading next

by admin June 22, 2025

“Your kingdom, your call” announced the Crusader Kings 3 trumpets earlier this week when they put out a new player survey, which is a terrifyingly verbose achievement for brass instruments, but useful for anyone who wants to give Paradox their opinions on where the grand strategy game should head next, as well as get a few hints about the futures it might already be making plans for.

While I do imagine Paradox will probably take some of the information gathered on board if the survey shows any serious trends in a certain direction, I mainly found this interesting enough to cover due to the sort of questions being asked. I’m always keen to learn how the folk making decisions actually view their own games, or at least which of the many niblets of received wisdom I’ve magpied from various GDC videos over the years they actually consider important.

Watch on YouTube

Case in point, the first question is “what player archetype fits you best”, in which they list all the fun things you might do in CK3 and link this to someone who prefers either roleplaying or “overcoming systemic challenges”. Example survey response below:

  • I enjoy roleplaying first, and systemic challenges second (creating an empire through well-planned marriages, surviving against overwhelming military odds, grooming the perfect heir, etc.)

Which is interesting to me in the sense that it suggests design thinking along the lines of “here’s a roleplaying tool with a secondary systemic benefit”, in contrast to:

  • I enjoy systemic challenges, and roleplaying second (creating the strongest regiments in the world, having more income than all my neighbors, etc.)

Which, again, I find this fun to think about in terms of design motivation – here’s an important primary system like military or economy a player can finagle to their liking, with the added roleplaying wrinkle that someone might also like to play “guy who has all the gold”. And yes, I do enjoy roleplaying that particular guy, in between reading Playboy for the articles. It’s not hoarding, I’m engaging in emergent fiction. About a coin-brained lordling. Who has work in two hours.

As for more tangible clues of where the game might be heading next, there’s some detailed questions about the theme of “trade and merchants”, where you can answer what aspects of the theme are most appealing to you personally, with answers like “naval trade”, “merchant republics”, and “banking”. Ditto the themes “feudalism & crusades”, “empires & laws”, “rib n’ saucy”, and “religion (christianity)”.

Brendy found a lot to love in the landless roaming and emergent storytelling of the Roads To Power expansion, and also left more dead bodies behind than he’d originally intended, or so he claims anyway.

Donkey Kong Bananza's Direct Reveals A Truly Smashing Game

Donkey Kong Bananza’s Direct Reveals A Truly Smashing Game

by admin June 20, 2025

Nintendo’s Donkey Kong Bananza Direct went out June 18, revealing a vast amount of new information about the forthcoming Switch 2 exclusive, and the more it went on, the more we found ourselves absolutely pumped for the game. You can watch the entire 15-minute video below.

Tears Of The Kingdom’s Newspaper Questline And The State Of Hyrulean Journalism

While we already knew that Donkey Kong Bananza was going to be a 3D open-world action adventure starring Mario’s first-ever enemy and that nearly everything in every level is destructible, it was hard to get a sense of exactly how the game would play. After fifteen minutes in its company, that feels completely different. This looks like it could be very special. (Jump to 29:30.)

DK is accompanied on Ingot Isle by Pauline, who, it seems, was trapped inside that purple rock we saw in earlier glimpses of Bananza? Who knows. But the important thing is, the two of them are then free to smash their way around layer after layer of adventure, each level set below the last, until you reach the core of the planet.

As the video goes on, we learn that DK can pretty much go anywhere at any point, climbing anything, and then also smash through or down any part of the level. It seems you really can bash down just about anything, which will hopefully lead to some excellent videos as people attempt to destroy entire levels. Oh, and he can turn into a zebra and an ostrich?! Amazing. He’s doing all this with the goal of finding Banandium, a precious banana-shaped gem, while also trying to help Pauline return to her non-ape-based reality.

As Kotaku watched the video, one by one we all declared our astonishment at how much is going on in this game, and how much we want to be playing it. However, like everyone else, we’re going to have to wait a month. The game is out on July 17, with pre-orders open now. Remember, this is a Switch 2 exclusive, and there’s no version for the original Switch. Presumably this was once intended to be a launch title, but needed an extra couple of months.

This really does look like the big title the Switch 2 is desperately lacking. This definitely doesn’t look like it’s some sort of stop-gap before the proper Super Mario title, but rather a full-fledged Super Donkey Kong action game to occupy our summer. You know, if it plays as good as it looks. We’ll find out soon.

Donkey Kong Bananza looks appealing in Direct

by admin June 19, 2025

Grab your bongos, Donkey Kong Bananza will be here in just a month. Nintendo gave us a deeper look at this launch window title today in a Direct, and it looks outstanding. The reveal also included a look at Pauline, who also graces the cover. Check out all the details below!

REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–In today’s Donkey Kong Bananza Direct presentation, Donkey Kong returns to the spotlight with mayhem, music, mystery and oh-so-many bananas. Launching July 17 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 system, Donkey Kong Bananza is an all-new 3D platforming game that lets DK punch, grab, toss, climb, smash and flex his strength as he explores the depths of this wild action adventure!

The Donkey Kong Bananza game kicks off in Ingot Isle, where the discovery of the century has just been made within its cavernous depths: golden bananas! This turns out to be excellent news for renowned banana fan Donkey Kong, who just happens to be there for this incredible find. However, just before DK can indulge in the gilded treats, a tempest sends him hurtling deeper into the depths of the planet. There, he meets a mysterious new ally in Odd Rock, who turns out to be a talented young singer named Pauline! Together, the pair explore the vast Underground World by smashing, crashing, jumping and singing their way through it. A rollicking adventure you can play solo or in co-op with a friend, Donkey Kong Bananza gives you new ways to cut loose and unleash your inner Kong!

New Ways to Smash and Bash: As Donkey Kong, you will be able to utilize powerful abilities to smash your way through obstacles and enemies and even unearth discoveries! Use Dive Punch to drill deep into the earth, roll yourself over obstacles, and perform a Hand Slap to help locate hidden items. You can also tear off chunks of ground to either throw at enemies or ride on top of by Turf Surfing and more. These abilities can even be combined for maximum mayhem!

Bananza Transformations: While this unlikely duo explores the Underground World, Pauline can enhance Donkey Kong’s destructive ability and even make him temporarily transform through the power of her singing! Collecting gold builds up their Bananergy, which allows Pauline’s singing to activate the transformations, each with its own specialties. Like Kong Bananza, that makes Donkey Kong super strong, Zebra Bananza which makes him faster and lets him dash for short distances and Ostrich Bananza that allows DK to fly and drop Egg Bombs on enemies!

Co-Op Play: By sharing a Joy-Con 2 controller, you and a friend can control Donkey Kong and Pauline separately in local co-op play. Unleash Pauline’s vocal blasts using the Joy-Con 2 controller’s mouse functionality! You can also use GameShare1 to share the game and play in co-op with another player locally even if they don’t have the game themselves and use GameChat2 to invite friends online to join you via voice or video chat.

Race to the Planet Core: Legend has it, the Planet Core has the ability to grant your heart’s desire, so Donkey Kong and Pauline set off on a quest to reach it. Pauline hopes it will be able to return her to the surface, while Donkey Kong plans to ask it for more (what else?) bananas! Unfortunately, they aren’t the only ones seeking the Planet Core: The Void Company is also racing there for their own nefarious purposes! A villainous mining operation whose reach extends through every layer of the Planet, VoidCo is not only responsible for the banana-stealing maelstrom that sent Donkey Kong hurtling underground in the first place, but they are also responsible for turning Pauline into Odd Rock. As they all dig deeper towards the Planet Core, Donkey Kong and Pauline must do whatever they can to get there first!

Collectibles: While you dig your way through the Underground World, you’ll discover useful items to help you along your journey. Uncover golden bananas called Banandium Gems buried behind walls, under the ground, and sometimes right out in the open. Collecting these Banandium Gems earn you Skill Points that increase DK’s power and even allows you to learn new Skills to add to your repertoire. You can also earn Banandium Gems through challenges like timed battles, side-scrolling stages, obstacle courses and more. You will also uncover banana slice-shaped items called Banandium Chips and gold nuggets called Banandium Gold. You can trade Banandium Chips for Banandium Gems at the Chip Exchange and Banandium Gold for useful items at the Stuff Shop. As you dig for these banana-shaped goodies, you may also discover Fossils. If you happen to find one during your excavations, take them to the Style Shops and trade them for different fashions for Donkey Kong and Pauline, almost all of which come with useful extra benefits, as well as fur colors for DK.

Other New and Familiar Faces: While uncovering more about the villainous activities of the Void Company, Donkey Kong and Pauline encounter many inhabitants across the Underground World. In addition to the giant Elders, familiar faces like Cranky Kong and his companion Rambi show up as well. You’ll also come face to face with Grumpy Kong, Poppy Kong and others who work for VoidCo leader, Void Kong.

Getaways and Eelevators: Need a break? Treat yourself to a Getaway while in the Underground World and sleep in a comfy bed to help restore your energy. You can even choose some music to enjoy while you rest. And if you want to explore areas you’ve already been to with ease, use the Eelevators – subterranean eels that can carry you quickly from layer to layer.

Creative Game Modes: Get ready to explore new game modes and ways to play Donkey Kong Bananza. This includes Photo Mode, where you can change the in-game camera angle and adjust other settings to snap your ideal pic. And in DK Artist, you can use the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls to take a break from the action and carve designs into stone. You can even change the lighting and add banana effects to give your masterpiece its finishing touches.

amiibo: Donkey Kong Bananza also supports amiibo! A Donkey Kong and Pauline amiibo figure will be available on July 17, and it allows you to unlock Pauline’s in-game Diva Dress early and receive KONG tiles with explosive power. Scan other Donkey Kong character amiibo figures and you will also earn gold KONG tiles. What’s more, if you scan any other available amiibo, you’ll receive a giant sphere of terrain material to aid you on your adventure!

This all just barely cracks the surface (pun intended) of what Donkey Kong Bananza has in store once the adventure begins!

Everything We Learned During Today’s Donkey Kong Bananza Direct

by admin June 19, 2025

The Donkey Kong Bananza Direct just wrapped up, and if the 15 minutes of gameplay shown during it is any indication, it’s shaping up to be an exciting Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, and it launches in less than a month. During the showcase, we learned a lot about the game, including that the Odd Rock companion from previous trailers is none other than aspiring singer Pauline, alongside details about Donkey Kong’s various Bananza forms, the evil Void Company, and more.

Here’s Everything We Learned About Donkey Kong Bananza

Donkey Kong makes the discovery of the century on Ingot Isle in the form of special golden bananas, but just as he’s about to enjoy all that potassium, a sudden tempest over the island sends him deep into the underground. Here, through extraordinary circumstances, he teams up with Odd Rock, who we learn is actually Pauline, a character whose lineage goes way back to Donkey Kong’s beginnings. The duo learns that if they reach the planet’s core, they will be granted a wish: Pauline wants to become a singer, and Donkey Kong wants to enjoy the golden bananas. So the two set off into the underground core.

Nintendo says each layer of the underground presents a new biome and unique scenery to enjoy, and if today’s Direct is any indication, we can expect lava stages, ice ones, tropical levels, and more. As the two venture through layers of the planet, they discover Banandium Gems, which are golden bananas you’ll find throughout the game. Some are simply visible and easy to collect; others are buried in walls, the ground, and elsewhere, and Donkey Kong will have to use his various moves to collect them. You can even receive them as rewards for completing Ancient Ruin challenges, which include time-limited battles, obstacle courses, side-scrolling stages, and more.

And speaking of moves, Donkey Kong has all kinds of tools in his arsenal in Donkey Kong Bananza.

Donkey Kong and Pauline’s Moveset

He can punch and smash through enemies, the ground, and most things he can get his hands on with incredible force. This destruction can lead to special discoveries or set off chain reactions that can drastically change the scenery around you.

Dive Punch lets Donkey Kong smash deep into the ground, while Roll Forward lets him roll at high speeds, which can be combined with jumps and punches, to extend traversal mechanics. With Hand Slap, Donkey Kong can collect nearby items and discover hidden ones using Sonar. Tear Off lets Donkey Kong grab a chunk of terrain and, well, tear it off. He can then throw this chunk at enemies or the environment to discover new pathways. Tearing turnips out of the ground will also lead to finding new items. Chunk Jump can be used to double jump and reach new heights. It’s clear there’s a lot of discoverability and exploration tied to chaining together Donkey Kong’s various moves, and I’m excited to see what kind of tech players make of this.

If you throw chunks of softer material, you can stick them to surfaces and pile them up, helping you reach new heights and secret areas. And finally, Donkey Kong’s Turf Surf lets you slide through levels on chunks of terrain, carving out new paths and taking out enemies along the way. Pauline has her own powers, too, including Make Music; with this, Pauline can show you the way forward and remove strange seals left behind by the evil Void Company.

Collectibles

As you work through the environment, you’ll discover not only Banandium Gems, which lead to Skill Points that you can use for different upgrades like better sonar and stronger punches, but Banandium Chips, too. These banana slices can be traded for Banandium Gems at the Chip Exchange. You can exchange the Gold you find in your adventures at the Stuff Shop for useful items, and you can trade Fossils at local style shops for additional outfits and more for Donkey Kong and Pauline. Both Donkey and Pauline can be customized with different outfits, and you can even change the color of Donkey Kong’s fur.

You can find additional Banandium Gems and Fossils by opening up Treasure Chests, which contain Treasure Maps that lead to these collectibles and more. Today’s Direct revealed that the game tracks which Fossils and Banandium Gems you’ve collected, too, making it easy to stay on top of what you need to do if you’re looking to find everything.

Bananza Forms and The Void Company

Donkey Kong will get help from the DK family, including Cranky Kong and his rhino companion, Rambi, and the Giant Elders that call the subterranean home. These Elders possess ancient powers that Pauline can help Donkey Kong utilize. If you collect enough gold, your Bananergy meter will fill up, and once it’s full, you can transform into different Bananza forms, including the massive gorilla Kong Bananza, the speedy Zebra Bananza, and the flying Ostrich Bananza form. There’s likely even more forms waiting in the full game. These forms have limited use, and you’ll need to fill up your Bananergy meter to use them again. However, you can swap forms on the fly.

These Bananza forms will be essential to taking down the Void Company, “the mightiest mining operation both above ground and below,” according to Nintendo. Grumpy Kong creates gigantic corporate soldiers, while Poppy Kong is responsible for subterranean information gathering. Void Kong is in charge of both of them and the entire company, and this company is behind the banana-stealing maelstrom threatening Ingot Isle. The company has blocked off routes to the lower layers to stop anyone wishing to thwart their plans to reach the core and receive a wish. Donkey Kong and his pals will face off against massive enemies guarding these sealed routes, and you’ll need to utilize Donkey Kong’s entire arsenal of moves to defeat them.

Getting Around

As you progress through Ingot Isle’s underground, you might want to double back for collectibles and more. Subterranean Eels (Eelevators) can be used to fast travel between different layers, and they can also “Teeleport” you to different areas within a single layer, too. When you need a break from the action, find a bed for a quick (and sleepy) getaway. Here, you can listen to new and classic tunes via the Music Player, and as you progress through the game and defeat enemies, you’ll earn more music discs for this player.

You can capture memories from your adventure with Donkey Kong Bananza’s robust Camera Mode, too, which includes different angles, filters, and more.

Co-Op and More

If you’re looking for some co-op fun, Donkey Kong Bananza includes plenty of ways to do that. You can share a second Joy-Con 2 controller, or a second set entirely, to let another person control Pauline separately from Donkey Kong. They can unleash Vocal Blasts using the Joy-Con 2 Mouse Controls. And with GameShare, you only need one copy of the game because you can share the game to another player on their Switch 2 to get them in on the action. This can be done locally, even to a Switch 1 player, or via an online connection using GameShare via GameChat.

If you need extra help in the game, the Assist Mode will automatically guide you toward the objective and halve the damage you receive.

Outside the main game, there’s a mode called DK Artist, reminiscent of the Super Mario 64 title screen. Here, you can use Joy-Con 2 mouse control to rotate a sculpture of Donkey Kong, carve material out of him (or add some back on), paint it, and more. The Direct shows off unique Donkey Kong sculptures and others inspired by art in the real world. You can change the lighting, too, and add special effects for a quick photo op.

Amiibo

The Donkey Kong Bananza direct ended with the reveal that a special Donkey Kong and Pauline Amiibo figure will be released the day the game comes out on July 17. Scanning it into the game unlocks Pauline’s Diva Dress. Nintendo has also revealed that every other Amiibo released thus far, including Donkey Kong ones and the special bands from Universal’s Super Nintendo World theme parks, can be used to receive special giant spheres that do unique things in-game.

And that’s everything we learned about Donkey Kong Bananza during today’s special Direct.

Donkey Kong Bananza launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 next month on July 17.

Nintendo rides Switch 2 launch hype with a Donkey Kong Bananza Direct set for later this week

by admin June 16, 2025

Nintendo has announced a Donkey Kong Bananza direct for later this week.

It’ll be taking place on Wednesday, 18th June at 6am PT / 9am ET / 2pm UK time. According to the official Nintendo App where it was announced, the Donkey Kong direct will last only 15 minutes.

We’ve seen little bits of Donkey Kong Bananza here and there over the past few months. Back in April the game was officially revealed, alongside some gameplay which shows everyone’s favourite gorilla punching through the ground and barrelling through the open world.

He’s got a new look too, with Shigeru Miyamoto stating that when going back to the drawing board with Donkey Kong the team developers wanted something “more expressive”. Fans eager for the game also cracked the banana-centric language seen in small clips of the game, way ahead of its release.

It goes without saying, but don’t expect any other Nintendo games to show up as part of this direct. It’s a pure Kong affair. All monkey, all monkey business. But if you’re looking for more info on a brand-new game created for the Switch 2, it sounds like an event worth tuning in for.
