Indiana Jones and the Great Circle DLC will adjust difficulty levels depending on your progress in the base game

by admin August 30, 2025

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s DLC The Order of Giants will be arriving next week, and as previously announced, will branch off from the Great Circle’s Rome location, which those who have played the game know is pretty early on in the grand scheme of things.

So, does this mean that those of us who have made it further than Rome, and thus managed to tuck a few more tricks and such up Indy’s sleeve, will have an easy time of it? Well, no, actually. You see, the developers have been rather clever with the DLC’s implementation, and the Order of Giants will scale the difficulty depending on how far through the base game you are.

“Players who are at the end of the game don’t need to worry about the difficulty [being too easy] as actually we have a new system in place where players are dynamically scaled based on how far they progressed,” creative director Axel Torvenius and lead game designer Zeke Virant explained in an interview with IGN. “We know a lot of players are coming back from the endgame and would like to have a continuation of that difficulty, especially if they have health upgrades and a lot of abilities.”

What will happen, then, is if players have made it to the Vatican and Rome, but haven’t progressed any further into the game, they will enter the DLC on the “first tier of difficulty”. Then, if they have made it as far as Giza, the difficulty level will get bumped up to the second tier, while if they have gotten as far as Sukhothai the difficulty level will notch up to the third tier.

“From there we [can tune] the different amount of combos enemies can use, different amounts of health and also how many will gang up on you at the same time,” the developers explained.

Clever!

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s Order of Giants DLC will feature “stunning new locations, intricate puzzles, terrifying new foes and more”, with the developer adding Indy will have to do what he can to “outwit a dangerous cult” while uncovering “the dark legacy of the Nephilim giants”.

The Order of Giants is arriving on 4th September, across Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC.

If Elden Ring Nightreign wasn't punishing enough for you, FromSoft is adding a high-difficulty mode

Elden Ring Nightreign is getting a new higher difficulty so you can stop complaining about just how ‘easy’ it is

by admin August 29, 2025

FromSoftware has dropped something of an expected announcement for players of Elden Ring Nightreign. If you’re still playing the online co-op action RPG, you’ve likely defeated many, if not most of its Nightlord bosses.

Though the developer keeps adding tougher versions of said bosses – called Everdark Sovereign – the core game’s difficulty remains unchanged, and many players simply don’t find it to be pushing their abilities anymore.

The solution? A new, harder difficulty. FromSoftware calls it The Deep of Night, and it’s going to arrive in Nightreign on Thursday, September 11. Because it raises the base difficulty of each Expedition, Deep of Night is designed for veteran players.

Of course, the enemies you face will be tougher than you’re used to. More interestingly, however, you cannot specify which Nightlord to target before starting the Expedition, meaning you won’t be able to build your character to exploit each of their weaknesses.

As you explore during the Expedition itself, you’ll also notice that ongoing terrain changes won’t be reflected. The upside is that Deep of Night Expeditions will drop new special items, including special Relics. You’ll also find weapons with more status effects, and some will even have negative effects.

Perhaps the most insidious change, however, is that the deeper into each day you go, the more difficult the game is going to get. This isn’t always going to be a fixed change, however, as it will fluctuate based on your wins and losses within that difficulty.

Finally, FromSoftware confirmed that Depths 4 and 5 will even offer the option of endless battle, though it’s not really clear what that means in practice.

If you’re still deep into Nightreign, our guides will absolutely make a difference in your experience. We recently posted updated guides on how to beat Everdark Tricephalos, and how to beat Everdark Equilibrious Beast – two recent Everdark Sovereign additions.

Elden Ring: Nightreign is getting a new ‘high difficulty mode’ in September, including an ‘endless battle for those seeking even greater thrills’

by admin August 28, 2025

Back in 2024, as the soulslike difficulty discourse once again reared its silly head, Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki said FromSoft “could just crank the difficulty down,” but warned that doing so “would break the game itself.” That doesn’t seem to be a concern going the other direction, though, as Bandai Namco says a new “high-difficulty challenge mode” called Deep of Night is coming to Elden Ring: Nightreign in September.

Now, before we get too far into this, I know, Elden Ring and Elden Ring: Nightreign are two very different experiences: One an almost entirely solo soulslike, the other a co-op focused extraction game. So the analogy isn’t exact—difficulty becomes less of a pressing issue when you’re travelling with your own personal Let Me Solo Her—but even so I find the whole “We can’t go down, but we can sure as hell go up” approach quite funny.

Anyway, Deep of Night is “designed for seasoned players who have navigated through the Night many times,” Bandai said. Enemies will be stronger than in other modes, and players won’t be able to target specific Nightlords when they set out—you’ll get who you get, and good luck to you.

“Ongoing terrain changes are not reflected,” Bandai said, which I assume means Shifting Earth modifiers are off the table, and there will be new items exclusive to the Deep of Night mode, including “Depths Relics” and weapons with multiple new—”but also detrimental”—effects. Hey, the Nightlord giveth, and the Nightlord taketh away.

“‘Deep of Night’ is a high-difficulty mode that provides a thrilling and challenging adventure,” Bandai wrote. “We encourage you to try and see if you can surpass Depth 3.” If you do, Depths 4 and 5 “will feature an endless battle for those seeking even greater thrills.” Deep of Night’s difficulty will increase as you descend, but will also “fluctuate based on wins and losses,” Bandai said.

If all of this is ringing a bell, it’s likely because you read about some Nightreign datamining earlier this month that uncovered information on the Deep of Night mode, including that it will have five “depths,” each with 999 ratings—a system seemingly similar to the one FromSoft used for Armor Core 6.

How exactly it will all work out in practice remains to be seen, but players will find out soon enough: Nightreign’s Deep of Night mode is set to go live on September 11.

Randy Pitchford's "a little nervous" about Borderlands 4's "more challenging" difficulty

Randy Pitchford’s “a little nervous” about Borderlands 4’s “more challenging” difficulty

by admin August 24, 2025

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford admits he’s a “little nervous” about Borderlands 4’s “more challenging” difficulty.

In an interview with Insider Gaming, Pitchford acknowledged that “a lot” of Borderland players “aren’t interested in deep, hard challenges”, adding “we definitely have pushed the challenges quite a lot, especially with bosses and boss fight mechanics”.

“We have lots of players that actually aren’t interested in deep, hard challenges; lots of people that love just exploring the Borderlands or spending time with the characters,” Pitchford said.

“I’m a little nervous because there are points of Borderlands 4 that are more challenging, but one of the coolest things about Borderlands 4, because of the nature of the RPG, is if anything is a little challenging for you, you can just grind somewhere and level up and become more powerful.

“You will find that things that were hard when you were a little chump will become trivial when you become a badass. But we definitely have pushed the challenges quite a lot, especially with bosses and boss fight mechanics.”

Borderlands 4 was announced last August, and we finally got a first look at the looter-shooter sequel when The Game Awards rolled around in December. Since then, we’ve had thoughts on that Borderlands film flop, a promise to cut back on the toilet humour for the series’ fourth instalment, and, as Matt described it, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford’s putting his foot in it so many times on social media, it’s a miracle publisher Take-Two didn’t hide his phone. Borderlands 4’s elusive Switch 2 release date was recently revealed: 3rd October.

Bitcoin Hashrate, Mining Difficulty Soar While Fees Sink: BlocksBridge

by admin August 19, 2025

In brief

  • Bitcoin network mining difficulty hit an all-time high of 129 trillion, making it harder than ever for miners to earn rewards despite Bitcoin’s recent price pullback.
  • Miner revenues are being squeezed as hashprice dropped to $60 per petahash and transaction fees fell below 1% of block rewards for the first time ever.
  • New tariffs up to 57.6% on mining equipment imports are creating additional financial pressure, with CleanSpark facing a potential $185M liability and Iris Energy $100M.

Even as Bitcoin cools off from its new all-time high, activity on the network has surged, pushing mining difficulty to fresh highs.

The Bitcoin network difficulty now stands at a record high of 129 trillion. That’s a 6.4% increase over the past 90 days, according to CoinWarz.

The difficulty was nearly this high in early June, when it inched past 126 trillion for the first time ever. The higher the difficulty the harder it becomes for miners to successfully add new blocks and earn rewards.

There may be some relief coming. The difficulty, which adjusts automatically roughly every two weeks, is set to lower 0.33% on Friday, August 22.

But for now, the all-time high difficulty is showing up in lower Bitcoin miner revenues, writes BlocksBridge Consulting founder and partner Nishant Sharma in his latest Bitcoin mining newsletter.

He wrote that the hashprice, or the amount of revenue earned per unit of computing power, has sunk to $60 per petahash per second. “This reflects ongoing compression in miner margins, as difficulty growth continues to offset gains from price appreciation,” Sharma added.

Meanwhile, transaction fees have slipped below 1% of block rewards for the first time ever. The revenue earned by miners comes from the static block reward, which is currently 3.125 BTC per block mined, and transaction fees paid by users.

“In July, fees accounted for just 0.985% of total monthly block rewards–the first time this share has fallen below 1%,” Sharma wrote.

The overall picture for Bitcoin miners hasn’t been helped by U.S. President Donald Trump, who has implemented punishing tariffs on imports from many of the countries that sell Bitcoin mining rigs. Imports from China are now subject to 57.6% tariffs, while Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand are all subject to 21.6% tariffs.

The tariffs have  already negatively affected two U.S. miners. U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which oversees tariff enforcement, has sent invoices to Iris Energy and CleanSpark—but for mining rigs that were imported in 2024.

“CleanSpark warned that if CBP’s position were upheld, its potential tariff liability could reach $185 million,” Sharma said. “IREN has also faced a $100 million dispute with CBP under similar circumstances. Both companies are challenging CBP’s claims.”
