MindsEye crashes caused by a memory leak, developer says, as it remains committed to ensuring all players have a great experience

by admin June 12, 2025

The team at MindsEye studio Build A Rocket Boy is “heartbroken that not every player was able to experience the game as we intended,” it has said, promising more fixes throughout June.

MindsEye released earlier this week, however it wasn’t the smoothest of launches. Many found themselves presented with distorting character bugs and stuttering issues when they booted up the game. Build A Rocket Boy released a statement yesterday, when it said it would be prioritising gameplay performance with an update.

“Our teams have worked tirelessly throughout the night to solve many of these issues, and we have now identified that the vast majority of crashes were caused by a memory leak,” the developer has since shared on the MindsEye Discord, adding roughly one in 10 players were impacted.

“We have developed a hotfix that addresses this issue (alongside other issues that our players have highlighted), which we are working hard to deploy as soon as tomorrow on PC and on consoles once it passes certification with PlayStation and Xbox,” it continued, stating the team is “fully committed to ensuring all players have a great experience”.

Build A Rocket Boy additionally shared its hotfix plans for up until the end of June. These are:

Friday, June 13-15 – Hotfix #1 – PC & Console

What players can expect:

  • Initial CPU and GPU performance improvements, along with memory optimisations
  • Reduced difficulty for the CPR mini-game
  • A new setting to disable or adjust Depth of Field
  • Fix for missing controls in the MineHunter and Run Dungeon mini-games
  • Pop-up warnings for PCs with Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling disabled and for PCs with CPUs prone to crashes

Hotfix #2 – Week of June 16 – PC & Console

What players can expect:

  • Continuous incremental performance and stability improvements
  • Fix for the buggy wheels not visually spinning while driving
  • Fix for areas in Car Manufacturing where players could fall through the world

By End of June – Update 3 – PC & Console

What players can expect:

  • Ongoing performance & stability improvements
  • Rebalanced “Hard” difficulty setting
  • Animation fixes
  • AI improvements

MindsEye has had an unusual lead up to launch, it has to be said. At the end of May, the studio’s co-CEO suggested the game’s negative reaction up until that point had been paid for in a “concerted effort” against the developer. This is something IO Interactive, which serves as the game’s publisher, doesn’t believe to be the case.

Meanwhile, the studio’s Chief Legal Officer and Chief Financial Officer left the company, just one week before MindsEye released.

‘I don’t actually play horror games’: Phasmophobia’s lead developer had no intention of making a horror game but still kicked off a whole new genre

by admin June 12, 2025

I’ll never forget the first time my friends and I played Phasmophobia. It was like nothing I’d ever played before, absolutely hilarious, and surprisingly terrifying—it still is. So it’s rather funny to me that not only does Phasmo’s creator not really play horror games but he didn’t intend to make one either.

“I failed to make a co-op puzzle game,” director and lead developer Daniel Knight told my colleague Andrea Shearon during an interview at Summer Game Fest. “Or a co-op puzzle horror game. I didn’t really settle to make a ghost-hunting game. It just ended up being the kind of perfect fit.

“But the main goal was to make a social co-op puzzle game where you actually had to stand next to your friends and figure the puzzle out together. And then the horror is kind of like the secondary part—it just happened to be the perfect fit.”

Related articles

Now Knight mentions it, I can totally see where he’s coming from with the puzzle idea. Trying to figure out what kind of ghost it is by working together as a team, using various tools, and having a checklist is just like solving a puzzle. It’s just a scary one which also involves you getting chased around a house by a red-eyed demon child.

Having a horror game that isn’t necessarily focused on being scary but instead works at being tricky to solve and an immersive experience for you and your friends may be what makes Phasmophobia so memorable. The best moments in Phasmo always come from someone messing up a test or a ghost surprising the team by doing something that we hadn’t accounted for.

Phasmophobia devs on mod support, 2025 updates, and more | Kinetic Games interview – YouTube

Watch On

I still remember playing on the Brownstone High School map with some mates where all the signs pointed us towards the ghost being in one of the rooms on the ground floor next to the stairs. We ended up having a massive argument as half of us didn’t think it was actually in this room after finding no physical evidence. It wasn’t until the ghoul appeared behind us that we realised the EMF Reader and Sound Sensor were actually pointing us towards the room directly above where we’d set up shop.

It may seem kind of weird at first, but maybe a horror game from someone who doesn’t massively love horror games isn’t such a bad idea. “I don’t actually play horror games,” Knight says. Although when pressed, he did admit that he’s dabbled in a bit of Content Warning.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

I love Content Warning, and don’t get me wrong it can be absolutely terrifying when you’re being chased by the Snail Man or flipped upside down by the Ceiling Star, but it’s also probably the most tame co-op game to come out recently. But hey, a horror game’s still a horror game, and I don’t think Knight has to prove anything, not after making Phasmophobia.

Days Gone Developer Bend Studio Lays Off Roughly 40 People

by admin June 12, 2025

Days Gone developer Bend Studio has confirmed layoffs at the company. Yesterday, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier posted on Bluesky that Bend was laying off 30% of its staff, or roughly 40 people. Later that day, Bend confirmed the news on X, stopping short of revealing how many employees had been affected.

“Today, we said goodbye to some incredibly talented teammates as we transition to our next project,” the post on X reads. “We’re deeply thankful for their contributions as they’ve shaped who we are, and their impact will always be part of our story. This is a difficult moment for our team, but we hold immense respect for everyone who got us here. As we move forward, we remain committed to building the future of Bend Studio with creativity, passion, and innovation in the titles we craft.”

Bend helped developer Climax Studios release Days Gone Remastered back in April, roughly six years after the launch of the original game. Earlier this year, PlayStation canceled two live-service multiplayer games in development, one being a game from Bend (thanks, Eurogamer). The studio is now working on a new IP.

The hearts of the Game Informer staff go out to everyone affected by these layoffs.

Epic Games continues war against Fortnite cheaters, files lawsuit against another cheat developer

by admin June 12, 2025

Epic Games has announced publicly it has filed a lawsuit against an individual it alleges has developed and sold cheats for Fortnite.

This latest venture in Epic Game’s ongoing war against those who create, sell, and use cheats was announced via the company’s own Twitter account. There, the company posted:

“We filed a new lawsuit against an individual who developed and sold cheating software that helped players see through walls and auto aim. We’re also going after people who helped sell this software. Creating and selling software to help others cheat is against the rules and we’ll keep fighting to keep it out of Fortnite.”

A new Fortnite season was revealed recently. Check it out!Watch on YouTube

According to Polygon, the lawsuit has been filed in the U.S. District Court for the eastern district of North Carolina where the company is headquartered. It alleges Ediz Atas, also known as Sincey Cheats and Vanta Chearts, has been making and selling cheats since “at least January 2023”.

Epic alleges in the lawsuit that after DMCA takedowns were issued to YouTube videos featuring these cheats, “Sincey Cheats sent multiple emails to YouTube’s designated copyright agent impersonating an Epic employee and falsely claiming that Epic wanted to ‘formally reverse [its] claim of copyright infringement'” by using fake Epic Games email addresses.

Epic also claims its has issued tens of thousands of bans against Fortnite accounts that used cheats from Sincey Cheats since 2022, including over 15,000 bans on US-based Fortnite accounts.

The lawsuit is also asking for compensation for damages from five unnamed individuals who distributed these cheats over platforms like Discord and Telegram. The amount is unknown.

In case you didn’t know, Epic Games has proven especially litigious when it comes to Fortnite cheaters. In 2022 Epic forced a cheat creator to pay up in Australian court following a legal victory, donating the winnings to charity.

Epic also sued a player who used cheats during a massive multi-million dollar tournament to give back any prize money they won, and make a cathartic public apology to boot!

The company is not alone in its struggle against cheats. Activision has also been fighting against cheats, winning £11.3m in court against a Call of Duty cheat maker. Bungie has been in those trenches too, winning a $4.4m lawsuit against Destiny cheat seller Aimjunkies.

WWDC 2025: all the news from Apple’s annual developer conference

by admin June 9, 2025

The iPad is getting a big refresh this year: Apple just announced the new version of iPadOS, its tablet operating system, at WWDC. (Apple dropped its press releases before they were technically announced in the virtual event.) The flagship feature is a new windowing system for multitasking across apps, but there’s also a new Files app, more Apple Intelligence features, and a Mac-like Preview app for looking at and editing PDFs.

As usual, the new iPadOS has a lot in common with the new iOS, including the new Vision Pro-inspired visual language called “Liquid Glass.” The updated name also follows Apple’s overall scheme, switching from version numbers to years. The iPad tends to differ in its approach to multitasking, how you move between apps, and around the operating system. With iPadOS 26, that difference is more stark than ever: Apple says it will let you “fluidly resize app windows” and place windows anywhere you want on the screen. The windowing system can be used inside of Stage Manager, too, and works across displays. Stage Manager has not always been the most intuitive of iPad software, but this looks like a solid next step toward proper multitasking.

Splitgate 2 developer responds after Summer Game Fest controversy

by admin June 7, 2025

Ian Proulx, CEO of Splitgate 2 developer 1047 Games, continued his criticism of modern first-person shooters on social media after explicitly calling out Call of Duty during Summer Game Fest.

During the June 6 showcase, Proulx, appearing on stage alongside host Geoff Keighley to promote Splitgate 2, said he was “tired of playing the same Call of Duty every year,” had spent his youth playing Halo, and his desire to see a third Titanfall game.

Primarily appearing at SGF to promote a free battle royale mode for the sequel, Proulx’s choice of headwear, a hat featuring the slogan ‘Make FPS Great Again’, combined with his comments on Call of Duty, drew criticism from viewers.

“I’m not here to apologize but I am here to clarify,” Proulx stated in a post on the official Splitgate 2 Twitter/X account, adding, “This is not a political statement, it is quite literally what it says, so take it at face value.”

“The state of multiplayer FPS games is tragically stale. We hope to fix that, whether you want Arena, Battle Royale, Onslaught, or Map Creator,” he continued.

Following Proulx’s comments, numerous responses pointed out that Splitgate 2 features numerous in-game microtransaction options, many being comparable in their contents to Call of Duty.

“So Splitgate 2 stealth drops a Resurgence-style BR for free, which is cool,” YouTuber JGOD said, adding, “But also decide to drop a $140+ bundle that is advertised as 45% off. ‘Make FPS Great Again, though, hahaha.”

“You threw shade at Call of Duty on stage but copied Warzone’s mechanics for your battle royale and dropped an $80 bundle in Splitgate 2,” one response to Proulx’s post stated.

“I don’t think the game is bad at all. I loved the first Splitgate too. I played it and put money into it. I just pointed out the dissing of other FPS games, then bringing those practices to your game,” the same poster added, prompting 1047 Games to respond.

“We think we’ve put a unique spin on the aspects we share with other games. Monetization is always controversial, but it’s also optional. Glad to hear you enjoyed the last game, hope you enjoy this one too.”

What exactly Proulx meant by calling modern FPS games “tragically stale” isn’t clear but, at least as far as microtransactions go, fans of the genre clearly aren’t convinced that Splitgate 2 does enough to distance itself from the competition.

Scottish mobile developer Outplay Entertainment cuts 15% of staff to “align operations with current business realities”

by admin June 5, 2025

Outplay Entertainment has cut more than 20 jobs to “align [its] operations with current business realities.”

The Dundee, Scotland-based studio, self-described as “the largest independent mobile game developer in the UK,” states on its website that it employs 135 staff, although it’s unclear if this figure includes the 21 roles that have been laid off. That’s around 15% of its headcount.

In a statement to MobileGamer, CEO Douglas Hare said: “Earlier this week, Outplay made the difficult decision to restructure parts of the business, which has affected as many as 21 team members across several departments.

“This step was taken to align our operations with current business realities and to support a strategic shift toward partnering with publishers for future game releases.

“This was not a decision we took lightly,” Hare concluded. “We are incredibly grateful to the talented individuals affected, many of whom have made lasting contributions to our games and culture. We are doing everything we can to support them through this transition.”

Outplay develops a number of licensed mobile games, including Gordon Ramsay’s Chef Blast, Angry Birds Pop!, and Subway Surfers Blast.

Over 2200 developers have lost their jobs in 2025 so far, with cuts and closures at Freejam, Splash Damage, Piranha Games, Jar of Sparks, Ubisoft, ProbablyMonsters, Iron Galaxy, Sumo Group, Liquid Sword, NetEase Games, Toast Interactive, Night School Studio, Striking Distance, Ballistic Moon, Eidos Montréal, PlaySide, AppLovin, Nerial, Reality Labs, and, most recently, there have been multiple cuts at EA, including Respawn, as well as People Can Fly and Jagex.

Cardano Developer IOG Flags Unconstitutional Behavior

by admin June 4, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

In a late-night post on June 3, Input Output Global (IOG) announced that it had finished reviewing two high-profile governance actions now before Cardano’s Voltaire-era electorate. “Input | Output has completed its assessment of the Amaru and DeFi Liquidity budget Info Actions. We find the DeFi Liquidity action unconstitutional … We find the Amaru action constitutional,” the company wrote on X.

That single sentence set off a new round of debate about the procedural safeguards embedded in the Cardano Constitution—a document adopted in February to give legal weight to on-chain decision-making.

Cardano Proposals Under Scrutiny

IOG’s “No” vote on the liquidity proposal rests on a technical but foundational rule in Article III, Section 5 of the Constitution. The article requires every governance action to publish a URL for its off-chain documentation and to record, on-chain, the cryptographic hash of that file. The hash is supposed to guarantee that no one can quietly swap the PDF or JSON once voting begins.

In the liquidity proposal the two values diverged. Input Output Global’s engineers downloaded the file and calculated a Blake2b-256 digest. The hash embedded in the transaction, however, was different. That mismatch “renders the proposal unconstitutional in its current form,” IOG argued, because voters cannot be sure what they are really approving.

The practical upshot is that, unless the authors resubmit with matching metadata, the Stablecoin Liquidity budget—originally pitched as a ₳50 million, 12-month programme to seed liquidity across Cardano DEXs—cannot move forward. Cardano’s Delegated Representatives (DReps) may still cast ballots, but the Constitutional Committee is now obliged to disregard the result.

By contrast, the “Cardano Blockchain Ecosystem Budget: Amaru 2025” sailed through IOG’s review. The project seeks ₳1.5 million to finance an alternative Cardano node implementation written in Rust. Governance Space records show the action is already pulling in more than 90 percent “Yes” support from voting stake—well above the 50 percent threshold that treasury-related actions must clear.

IOG’s rationale highlights several constitutional touch-points: the proposal’s purpose aligns with decentralisation goals in the Preamble and Article I; it follows the standard metadata format demanded by Article III, Section 5; it provides an explicit fund-administration framework that satisfies Article IV, Section 2; and it confirms that the requested sum will not breach the Net-Change Limit in Article IV, Section 3.

The only caveat IOG raised concerns the line-item for “Ad-hoc mercenaries” to cover audits—an ambiguous phrase that the company says should be clarified before disbursement.

What Happens Next

Under Cardano’s CIP-1694 governance flow, DReps have until epoch 563 (June 8) to vote. If the DeFi Liquidity action retains its flawed metadata, it will almost certainly be tossed regardless of the tally. The Amaru budget, on the other hand, is on track for approval; once ratified, its maintainers will be able to draw down funds in tranches, subject to on-chain spending scripts and oversight from PRAGMA’s legal wrapper.

The episode underscores why the Constitution’s seemingly dry formatting rules matter. Without an anchor-hash match, the “single source of truth” principle that keeps Cardano proposals immutable collapses, opening the door to bait-and-switch edits that no chain audit could detect. As IOG’s post put it, the mismatch “undermines the constitutional requirement for a clear, verifiable, and identical link between the on-chain governance action and its off-chain specification.”

At press time, ADA traded at $0.69.

Zynga shuts down Torchlight 3 developer four years after its acquisition

by admin June 3, 2025

Echtra Games, the San Francisco-based studio behind Torchlight 3, will be shut down by its owner Zynga by the end of June.

The studio, acquired by Zynga in 2021, had been working alongside NaturalMotion on another RPG, one we’ll never see. While no specific employee count is listed on the official website, the company’s LinkedIn page lists it as having 61 employees as of writing.

IGN received an official statement confirming the news, which states, “Zynga has made the difficult decision to cease operations at its Echtra studio, ending development on future titles and reducing roles. This decision is part of a strategic realignment of the company’s resources and priorities. We will work closely with impacted employees so they are treated with the utmost respect and consideration as we navigate this difficult process.”

Echtra Games was founded in 2016 by Max Schaefer, but had a history that stretched long before that. While Echtra would make Torchlight 3 it was Runic Games, another studio founded in part by Max alongside his brother Erich, that created Torchlight and Torchlight 2.

Even earlier than that, both Schaefer brothers would team up with David Brevik to found Condor in 1993. Three years later, this team would become Blizzard North, and release the original Diablo in 1997. The team would then go on to release the excellent Diablo 2 in 2000.

Many from this team, including both brothers and Brevik among others from Blizzard North, would then go on to found Flagship Studios, releasing the rad action-RPG Hellgate London in 2007. So there’s a lot of history behind Echtra Games, a real legacy, tragically cut short today.

AR developer DreamPark secures $1.1m in seed funding round

by admin May 31, 2025

Mixed reality developer DreamPark has raised $1.1 million in a seed funding round.

DreamPark develops AR experiences at physical locations via markers including QR codes that change real-world spaces with digital features.

Led by Long Journey Ventures with participation from Founders Inc., the investment will help the firm accelerate creating partnerships with established IP, expanding the amount of rental Quest headset units it has, and growing its development team.

So far, DreamPark has installed experiences in Santa Monica and the LA County Fair, with plans to expand to Seattle, Orange County, and corporate events.

“We’re not just creating content, we’re building a platform that revitalises communities by giving people a reason to gather, play, and connect in physical spaces in real life,” said DreamPark CEO and co-founder Aidan Wolf.

“DreakPark bridges the digital and physical worlds, creating a new category of play where the magic of virtual worlds enhances real-life connections. We’re reimagining what’s possible when the spaces around us become canvases for shared adventure and imagination.”

DreamPark co-founder and business director Brent Bushnell added: “We’re building the world’s largest theme park – one that exists everywhere and is accessible to everyone. We want to make getting out to play worthwhile again.

“This investment allows us to expand our footprint of access points across the country rapidly, develop partnerships with premium IP holders, and continue enhancing our technology to deliver magical experiences that bring people back to real-world spaces.”
