Tech That Could Prove Whether Iran’s Uranium Was Destroyed

by admin June 24, 2025

In brief

  • U.S. airstrikes hit three Iranian nuclear sites, but verifying uranium destruction is difficult.
  • Uranium can’t be seen by satellites, and key site Fordow remains uninspected, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
  • Remote sensing provides clues, but full verification may require on-site access and diplomatic efforts.

While President Donald Trump has heralded the weekend strike on three Iranian nuclear sites as a success, verifying the destruction of uranium stockpiles in Iran is a challenge for U.S. and international intelligence agencies.

The International Atomic Energy Agency has not been able to inspect the damage to the U.S. military’s main target, the Fordow uranium enrichment facility, which is built deep inside a mountain in central Iran, and thus cannot independently verify Trump’s claim that the site was “obliterated.”

“At this time, no one, including the IAEA, is in a position to have fully assessed the underground damage at Fordow,” Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, told Reuters on Monday.

Despite a sophisticated airstrike, at this point, experts say the issue isn’t just what was targeted, but trying to determine if it was destroyed.

“It will take time, intelligence assessments, and satellite imagery to determine the extent of the damage,” Professor of the Practice of International Relations at USC, Jeffrey Fields, told Decrypt. “Once that’s clear, we can evaluate whether we significantly crippled, or destroyed, Iran’s ability to continue enriching uranium.”

While images of explosions may show damage to structures, uranium itself can’t be seen with traditional satellite imagery, and there is no single tool capable of remotely confirming whether it’s been eliminated.

However, several technologies are available that can help analysts build a picture of what happened on the ground.

Radiation detection from drones and aircraft

Specialized aircraft and drones can carry radiation sensors capable of detecting gamma rays or neutrons.

However, these aircraft must fly extremely close to the ground, typically within a few thousandths of a mile, to effectively detect and map radioactive sources, making them vulnerable to attack.

Air sampling and downwind analysis

To detect radioactive releases, the U.S. Air Force operates the WC-135 “Constant Phoenix.”

These fixed-wing aircraft, based on the Boeing 707, are designed to collect atmospheric samples and analyze radioactive isotopes in the event of a nuclear explosion or accidental release, provided the winds carry the particles far enough.

According to the Air Force, the WC-135W played a significant role in tracking radioactive debris from the Chernobyl nuclear plant disaster in 1986.

“During the Cold War, before we understood the environmental damage of above-ground or atmospheric nuclear tests, the U.S. did it, and so did other countries,” Field said. “Those tests released radioactive isotopes into the air, which could be detected. With underground tests, that’s much harder to pick up now.”

Adding to the trouble with detection, Fields said, is the depth of the Fordow facility, which is reportedly 80 to 90 meters, approximately 260 to 295 feet, below ground.

Neutrino detectors

Neutrino Detectors are highly sensitive instruments capable of identifying particles released from nuclear reactions.

While the technology has the potential to provide long-range monitoring, its use is currently mainly experimental.

Neutrino detectors need to be placed relatively close to the source, within about 56 miles, to be effective.

Because of this limitation, the technology is not widely used for real-time monitoring.

Hyperspectral imaging and indirect clues

Satellites and drones equipped with hyperspectral sensors cannot directly detect uranium, but they can identify indirect signs of activity, such as heat signatures, disturbed terrain, or camouflage patterns.

These clues may suggest that a facility was struck or damaged, though they can’t confirm what was inside.

When combined with machine learning and artificial intelligence, hyperspectral imagery and other remote sensing data can help detect changes to structures or vehicles that may indicate blast effects at a facility.

However, these technologies still cannot confirm the presence or destruction of uranium itself.

The limits of technology

While tools like AI and satellite imagery may aid military leaders in determining the accuracy of the hit on the target, verifying if Iran’s nuclear capabilities have been destroyed may require an on-the-ground investigation.

“We need to try to go back to the negotiating table as soon as possible. We have to allow the IAEA inspectors to return,” Grossi said in a statement. “The IAEA is ready to play its indispensable role in this process.”

“We have been talking to Iran, we have been talking to the United States,” he added. “We have to work for peace.”

12,385,936 SHIB Destroyed in 24 Hours, What’s Next for SHIB Price?

by admin June 21, 2025

  • SHIB burn rate up 12,285.94%
  • What’s next for the SHIB price?

Although the crypto market has continued to show bearish signs across major cryptocurrencies, SHIB has flipped bullish in this key metric.

Data from on-chain tracking service Shibburn reveals a staggering five-digit spike in SHIB’s burn rate, as millions of SHIB tokens were wiped out of circulation over the last 24 hours.

SHIB burn rate up 12,285.94%

With SHIB’s burn rate skyrocketing by a massive 12,285.94% in just one day, the dog-themed meme token Shiba Inu (SHIB) saw a total of 12,385,936 SHIB tokens permanently removed from circulation on June 20.

This rapid surge in SHIB’s burn rate has sparked interest across the crypto ecosystem, especially as the token had been experiencing consistent lows in its burn rate over recent weeks. Therefore, the five-figure increase seen today reflects a remarkable resurgence, as demand for the token appears to be returning to earlier levels.

The latest removal of millions of SHIB tokens from circulation has brought SHIB’s circulating supply down to 584,525,215,730,881, highlighting the Shiba Inu team’s ongoing commitment to creating scarcity and driving up the value of the leading meme coin.

What’s next for the SHIB price?

While the SHIB team remains committed to the project’s deflationary strategy, SHIB holders closely monitor this activity to anticipate potential price movements.

Token burns are a key part of Shiba Inu’s long-term roadmap. By sending tokens to inaccessible wallets, the team effectively removes them from circulation forever.

This sharp increase in the burn rate is significant for SHIB investors, as a decreasing supply can potentially boost demand. This suggests growing on-chain activity, which could turn bullish for the token.

Despite the spike in this critical metric, SHIB price has not yet responded and continues to trade in the red. Still, holders are optimistic that this resurgence in the burn rate could signal a short-term price recovery.

While this latest burn is one of the largest in recent weeks, it underscores the Shiba Inu community and developers’ strong commitment to managing the token’s supply.

Shiba Inu Skyrockets 5,762% in Burn Rate With Millions of SHIB Destroyed

by admin June 8, 2025

Dog-themed cryptocurrency Shiba Inu (SHIB) has seen a massive 5,762% jump in burn rate, permanently removing millions of SHIB tokens from circulation.

According to data from Shiba Inu burn tracker Shibburn, the explosive increase in burn rate occurred within 24 hours. Millions of SHIB burned in various transactions contributed to the surge, with SHIB being sent to dead wallets, thus rendering the tokens unspendable and lowering the total supply.

Digital assets fell over the last week as jobs and economic indicators slowed and global markets became more shaky. May’s job statistics indicated 139,000 new positions (up from 125,000 expected), but down from April’s total of 177,000 and a year-to-date monthly average of 144,000 jobs.

The crypto market was posting mixed price action in the early Sunday session after a relief rally over the weekend following an earlier sell-off.

Shiba Inu drops

Shiba Inu was posting slight losses after closing Friday and Saturday with gains, reaching $0.00001289. At the time of writing, SHIB was down 2.10% in the last 24 hours to $0.00001236 and down 1.81% weekly.

Shiba Inu’s trading volume was quite low over the last 24 hours, falling 24.29% to $88.86 million, according to CoinMarketCap data.

On-chain transaction volume has also decreased, according to IntoTheBlock data. The transaction volume decreased from 25.77 trillion SHIB on June 5 to 1.14 trillion SHIB on June 7.

The drop could be a pause before the next move, especially as the market digests macroeconomic signals and broader sell-offs. Shiba Inu whales and traders appear to be on the sidelines, waiting for market clarity before making any substantial moves.

Solana Sees Another Large Spike In Coin Days Destroyed, Could A Price Shift Be Next?

by admin June 5, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

The growing bearish market performance appears to have heavily impacted Solana’s price action, causing the altcoin to resist key support levels after a period of bullish movements. Given the prevailing waning price performance, indications of profit-taking are starting to emerge as SOL witnesses a major surge in Coin Days Destroyed.

Coins Days Destroyed Explodes On Solana

Solana’s current bearish trend has triggered a notable shift in its on-chain dynamics. Following this weakening period is the recent massive spike in Coin Days Destroyed as reported by Glassnode, a leading financial and on-chain data platform, in a post on X.

The Coin Days Destroyed (CDD) is a key metric that measures the movement of coins by weighting transactions based on how long these assets have been held. Thus, such a huge uptick in the metric signals a significant movement of long-held coins.

Furthermore, the development points to a possible profit-taking from long-dormant wallets or a strategic realignment by seasoned investors. Should this trend persist, it is likely to have implications for Solana’s price trajectory.

According to the on-chain platform, the coin days destroyed for Solana year-to-date (YTD) reached approximately 3.55 billion SOL on Tuesday, marking its third-largest spike since the beginning of this year.

In prior spikes, the coin days destroyed increased sharply to 5.53 billion SOL on February 26, which currently stands as the biggest so far this year. Meanwhile, the second-largest surge in coin days destroyed was recorded on March 3, reaching about 4.64 billion SOL. Glassnode noted that these consistently large spikes are hinting at a shift in holders’ conviction as the SOL price struggles to regain upward momentum.

With previous massive spikes preceding heightened volatility, SOL’s waning price may be extended in the upcoming weeks. A continuation of the ongoing volatile period is likely to trigger distribution among these wallets, driven by reduced volume and technical flashes of mean oversold setups.

SOL’s Network Fundamentals Showing Strength

Despite the substantial upticks in the coin days destroyed, the Solana network activity remains strong. The Solana Post, an informative platform on X, disclosed that the network is flexing its strength, consistently surpassing all other chains in the number of active addresses and transactions processed in a single day.

Data from the platform shows that the daily active wallet addresses on the network have increased to 7 million, while the daily transaction count exceeds 100 million. This notable performance could be attributed to the network’s low transaction costs and fast throughput, which keep attracting users and developers. SOL’s heightened user engagement, surpassing that of all other major chains, highlights its growing dominance in blockchain activity, cementing its position as a leading network.
