Peacemaker Season 2 reveal could change the DCU forever

by admin September 12, 2025

A revelation at the end of Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 4 could fundamentally change what’s possible in the DC Universe going forward.

Peacemaker is serving as something of a bridge in the DCU, acting as a sequel to Suicide Squad, introducing characters for the movies, and continuing storylines from Superman.

According to writer-director James Gunn, the last three episodes of Season 2 will also set up his next film, Man of Tomorrow.

Gunn has also added longtime collaborator Michael Rooker to the mix – as eagle hunting madman Red St. Wild – and in Episode 4 he brought something new to the live-action DCU.

Peacemaker Season 2 adds sorcery to the DCU

At the end of Season 2 Episode 4, Red St. Wild marches through a forest at night, tearing his clothes off. He then does a (seemingly) traditional Native American dance around a fire, and draws an eagle in the ground using his own blood.

Magical flames then emerge from the fire, that eagle shape appears on his forehead, Wild soars through the air, and follows Eagly to where he’s holed up, meaning the hunter has found his prey, inspiring Red St. Wild to say, “I got you motherf*cker!”

Speaking of this moment on the official Peacemaker podcast, Steve Agee – aka John Economos – says: “Leading up to this moment, he’s kind-of a jokey character, but we see that he’s legit. He’s conjuring up some sh*t.”

James Gunn agrees, and points out that this is a big moment for magic in his DC Universe.

“He does sorcery,” says Gunn. “So we see sorcery for the first time in Peacemaker. We’ve seen a little bit of it in Creature Commandos in the DCU, but this is the first time we see any type of magic. He’s a Magic Man.”

That opens the door for more sorcery in the DC movies, from the likes of Zantana, Doctor Fate, John Constantine, and of course Enchantress, who used magic in the DCEU but is yet to appear in the DCU.

Next Superman Movie Gets Release Date As New DCU Ramps Up

by admin September 3, 2025

James Gunn’s Superman was a great comic-book movie unburdened by much of the multi-billion-dollar franchise machine powering it, and a sequel isn’t far away. Because even though this summer’s DC blockbuster didn’t feel like just another marketing beat on a pitch deck, it very much is that, too. Gunn’s announcement on Wednesday that Man of Tomorrow will hit theaters in 2027 shows his rebooted DCU is about to be in full swing.

“Man of Tomorrow. In theatres July 9, 2027,” the director posted on social media today alongside comic book artist Jim Lee’s rendering of Superman and Lex Luthor standing next to each other, the latter appearing in his green and purple Warsuit. This “Lexorian armor” is what the billionaire genius uses to even the playing field with his himbo Kryptonian rival, and suggests at the very least the next movie will give us another showdown between the two. Or maybe they’ll end up working together to face an even deadlier, extinction-level event like, say, a visit from Brainiac?

July 2027 will be just two years after Superman arrived in theaters, bringing the box office success back in record time. But it’s far from the only upcoming DCU movie currently on the calendar. Here’s a brief look at the shows and movies in development that currently have dates attached to them:

  • Lanterns TV Series: Early 2026
  • Supergirl: June 26, 2026
  • Clayface: September 11, 2026
  • Man of Tomorrow: July 9, 2027
  • Dynamic Duo: June 30, 2028

Matt Reeves’ follow-up to The Batman is also in the mix with a slated release date of October 1st, 2027, further powering DC’s presence at the multiplex, though the Robert Pattinson-led films are not, strictly speaking, part of James Gunn’s DCU.

You may be detecting a pattern here: we’re getting at least one Superman-related movie and one Batman-related movie annually for the next two years. There’s also Teen Titans, Wonder Woman, and Deathstroke movies in development, alongside a bunch of other projects. Gunn has previously promised that the scripts will come first in these productions, preventing messy reshoots and other expensive holdups until the stories have been locked down. That at least sounds like it’s in contrast to the recent Marvel process of letting the needs of franchise development run the show.

The proof, of course, will be in this new DCU’s track record once it actually takes shape. For now it’s just one good movie and some cool ideas. We’ll see how the next two years pan out. In the meantime, Peacemaker season 2 just kicked off on HBO streaming for everyone looking for clues about where Gunn’s interconnected superhero universe will go next.

Peacemaker Season 2 Removes Snyder’s Justice League From DCU

by admin August 23, 2025

John Cena has a brief cameo in this summer’s Superman as Peacemaker, the foul-mouthed mercenary the wrestler-turned-actor has played since 2021’s The Suicide Squad. That movie was part of the old DC Comics shared universe (DCEU), so it seemed odd that Cena’s character would appear in James Gunn’s new take on Superman, considering he was, ostensibly, part of a different multiverse. Well, Peacemaker’s second season premiered last night, and through a reshot scene, has plucked the antihero from one universe into another without making a huge stink about it.

In Peacemaker’s first season finale, Cena’s character met up with the Justice League from the previous film universe, including Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Ezra Miller’s Flash. The rest of the team was mostly obscured in shadows and only seen as silhouettes, but Momoa and Miller’s presence makes it clear they’re likely accompanied by Henry Cavill’s version of Superman, who portrayed the superhero from 2013 to 2023. This ties Peacemaker to the old continuity, which again complicates Cena’s appearance in Superman.

Season two’s premiere episode, “The Ties That Grind,” addresses this with an opening sequence called “Previously in the DCU,” which recaps the previous season with one major change. Rather than calling the Justice League for help as he did in the finale, this section is reshot and redubbed to instead show the Justice Gang featured in Superman arriving on the scene. Nathan Fillion and Isabela Merced reprise their roles as Guy Gardner and Hawkgirl, while silhouettes of Superman, Supergirl, and Mister Terrific are also shown but obscured in shadow, like in the original scene.

In a roundtable interview with outlets like IGN, Gunn said that while fans might have expected a more convoluted multiversal explanation that pulled Peacemaker from one continuity to another, the director said he’d rather go with a simple approach.

“Could I make it so that Peacemaker is the DCEU Peacemaker, even though he’s not really the DCEU Peacemaker, and he walks through that portal, and that’s where the DCEU Peacemaker is?” Gunn said. “I could have, but people are like, ‘How are normies going to understand it?’ And no, the answer is, normies don’t give a shit. Normies don’t care about all this canon stuff so intimately.”

“It doesn’t matter if it’s not completely consistent in the past. So I thought the simple way was really the best, which is just saying, yeah, this world is a little different. We know there’s universes, and this is the universe in which everything was exactly the same as Season 1, except for the Justice League.”

Some fans might be annoyed at the handwavey nature of this change, but it’s probably a good thing Peacemaker didn’t have to spend a whole episode throwing its hero through the multiverse to justify him showing up in future projects. Now it can just get back to what it actually wants to do rather than wasting all those precious, costly minutes of runtime, not to mention the precious time of us viewers. New episodes of Peacemaker premiere on HBO Max on Thursday nights at 9 p.m. Eastern.
