The Boys creator took one big lesson from Breaking Bad for Season 5 finale

by admin June 11, 2025

The Boys creator Eric Kripke is feeling a “fair amount of terror” about getting the show’s season finale right – and he turned to the makers of Breaking Bad for help.

After all, Kripke has been down this road before: the last episode of Supernatural left many fans dissatisfied, and the impact of a ‘bad’ finale (or even a polarizing one) is enormous on the rest of the series.

For example, look at Lost. It’s generally ranked as one of the greatest TV shows of all time, widely viewed across the world, but the main reason people still talk about it is its incredibly divisive ending.

Kripke wants to get it right, so he looked at one of the greatest finales of all time for inspiration.

The Boys creator is in “terror” over Season 5 finale

Prime Video

Speaking to The Night Agent creator Shawn Ryan for Sony’s Creator to Creator podcast, Kripke confessed: “I am in a fair amount of terror about a series finale.

“You can count in one, maybe two hands, the truly great series finales… and, conversely, the graveyard is literally filled with terrible [finales].

“You could have the greatest show for years, but if you stiff that ending, and that’s what’s sending everyone out in the parking lot, they go, ‘Oh, maybe that show wasn’t that good.’

“How do you tie up the stories? How do you do it in a way that is emotional and satisfying? How do you do it in a way that creates, frankly, the illusion that some detail that you dropped in Season 1 or Season 2 is now suddenly coming back to pay off?”

AMC

In Kripke’s eyes, Breaking Bad “is as good as a show gets” (and most people agree, considering its ‘Felina’ finale is still rated 9.9 on IMDb.) “I was able to ask some of those writers, ‘The way you tied everything together, how did you do that?’” he continued.

“And they said, ‘Oh, we just had a list of loose ends on our board, that we had no idea of what to do with them, that we would keep compiling over the seasons, and when then it was time to do the final season we would just start checking them off, because we are going to look like geniuses because the Season 2 storyline becomes this.’

“So that, I would say, has been a big challenge. The size of it, you know?”

‘A Different Era’: Bored Ape Creator Yuga Labs Wants to Kill the ApeCoin DAO

by admin June 5, 2025

In brief

  • Yuga Labs CEO Greg “Garga” Solano drew up plans for the elimination of the ApeCoin DAO.
  • If passed, the proposal would spin out DAO assets to a new Yuga Labs entity, ApeCo.
  • Solano said the move would allow the ApeCoin ecosystem to obtain clarity and focus.

The creator of the Bored Ape Yacht Club wants to take control of ApeCoin, after years of distancing itself from the Ethereum token created for its ecosystem.

In a new ApeCoin Improvement Proposal idea, Yuga Labs CEO and co-founder Greg Solano (aka Garga) outlined potential plans to disband the ApeCoin DAO, eliminating all governance rights for APE token holders in the process.

The idea, which started gaining attention on social media earlier this week, would transition all assets and responsibilities of the DAO to a new entity created by Yuga Labs, called ApeCo.

“ApeCoin DAO was a bold experiment, but one born of a different era. What started with promise has devolved into sluggish, noisy, and often unserious governance theater,” wrote Solano in his post on the ApeCoin forums. “Too many resources have gone to vanity proposals and low-impact initiatives. That stops now.”

It’s time for ApeCoin to sunset the DAO and get back to winning.

The AIP creates a new entity, ApeCo, whose mission will be to supercharge the APE ecosystem by supporting high-quality builders and reinforcing three core pillars: ApeChain, Bored Ape Yacht Club, and Otherside.

— Garga.eth (Greg Solano) (@CryptoGarga) June 5, 2025

The “bold experiment” came to life in 2022 at the peak of the Bored Ape frenzy, acting as the decentralized entity responsible for launching ApeCoin (APE) on the Ethereum blockchain—not Yuga Labs itself. The ApeCoin DAO was treated as an independent entity, despite being closely aligned with Yuga and the Bored Ape ecosystem.

But over time and as the token price has fallen substantially, the DAO has faced criticism for funding proposals that didn’t add value to the ApeCoin ecosystem or Bored Ape Yacht Club brand.

If the drafted plan is ultimately passed, then the ApeCoin DAO would be fully dissolved and all prior ApeCoin Improvement Proposals (AIPs) would be nullified, with exception given to those that have executed AIP contracts. Additionally, it would terminate all working groups, delegated authorities, elections, and the ApeCoin forum.

“The AIP creates a new entity, ApeCo, whose mission will be to supercharge the APE ecosystem by supporting high-quality builders and reinforcing three core pillars: ApeChain, Bored Ape Yacht Club, and Otherside,” Solano posted on X.

Per the proposal, ApeCo would be granted all assets held by the DAO or ApeCoin Foundation, only after the new entity funds the ApeCoin staking contract and the DAO infrastructure is disabled.

According to Solano, this would create notable benefits to the ApeCoin ecosystem, including “decisive clarity” and “strategic focus”—key themes that have been highlighted since Solano was reinstated as Yuga Labs CEO early last year and the firm began parting ways with IP it picked up since its explosive growth started in 2021.

“Since returning as CEO, everything I’ve worked on has aimed at one thing: getting back to the spirit and velocity of year one, when Gordon Goner [Wylie Aronow] and I were building Yuga from scratch,” he posted on X. “We’ve made huge progress. But the biggest unlock would be in getting ApeCoin rowing in the right direction.”

Just last week, Yuga Labs parted ways with the IP for Ethereum NFT collection Moonbirds that it acquired in February 2024. Earlier this year, it also sold the IP rights to the CryptoPunks and Meebits collections it acquired from Larva Labs in 2022.

The IP shedding, plus the spinout of its HV-MTL game to Faraway in early 2024, has the Bored Ape creator once more focused on its core collection, along with the ApeChain network and long-in-the-works Otherside metaverse game.

“We’re building the best chain in crypto and expanding the most iconic brand in NFTs. ApeCoin should be the economic engine for that future,” Solano wrote in his conclusion.

Early reception to the idea has been broadly positive, with community members and other Web3 builders speaking out in support.

Based on existing ApeCoin DAO governance rules, the idea will need to be reviewed by the ApeCoin DAO Special Council before it can be sent to a vote. Voting periods open on the first and third Thursday of every month at 9:00pm ET.

A representative for Yuga Labs did not immediately respond to Decrypt’s request for comment.

ApeCoin, the native token of the Bored Ape Yacht Club ecosystem and the governance token for the ApeCoin DAO, is down more than 7% in the last 24 hours to $0.66. The token is more than 97% off its April 2022 all-time high of $26.70

Balatro creator reveals a little taste of home hidden in one of the game’s many cards

by admin June 4, 2025

Balatro dev Localthunk has revealed a lovely little reference hidden inside one of the game’s many cards, one that calls back to his home town of Regina, Saskatchewan.

Posting this tidbit of Balatro lore on Twitter, Localthunk offered some development context for the ‘Ride the Bus’ card to their followers, as well as a side-by-side of the card art and its real life inspiration.

“Pointless Balatro lore: When I started Balatro dev I was living in my hometown of Regina, Saskatchewan,” he wrote. “I had a bus stop outside my apartment (similar to the one in this image) and I based the art of ‘Ride the Bus’ on that bus stop!”

If you don’t know what Balatro is, check this trailer out!Watch on YouTube

Who doesn’t love a bit of local love hidden inside video games. My mind immediately goes to Driver on the PS1, in which the developers hid a secret recreation of Newcastle in the UK. It remains true that the place in which a game is made can often seep inside the work of the creatives living there. A nice thought, especially for those from Regina. Let’s go Pats!

Balatro has proven exceptionally popular since its release back in February last year. As of January 2025, it has surpassed 5m copies sold, and was estimated to have generated $4.4m two months after release on mobile alone.

It’s also proven itself to be an awards magnet, taking home multiple awards at the Game Developers Choice awards including Game of the Year, Best Design, Best Debut, and Innovation Award. Mr. Thunk even played the game at the conference while remaining totally anonymous.

Microsoft integrates OpenAI’s Sora video creator into Bing

by admin June 3, 2025

Microsoft introduced an AI-powered video generator to its Bing search engine. Bing Video Creator is powered by OpenAI’s Sora, which creates short clips based on text prompts. The free feature is rolling out to the Bing mobile app starting today and is slated to arrive later on desktop and to Copilot Search.

Microsoft has invested multiple billions of dollars into OpenAI in support of its artificial intelligence endeavors over the years. The tech giant integrated the DALL-E image generation capability from OpenAI into the Bing search engine in 2023, so it’s not surprising that it has followed a similar path with the company’s Sora video tool.

However, Sora had a rocky launch with a rebuke from YouTube’s CEO not to train on its videos and protests from several of its early testing participants. The model became broadly available at the end of last year. It’s also facing more competition from other video AI models offering more complex features, such as Google’s Veo 3.

Creator Clash 3 delayed as iDubbbz fully separates from brand to keep charity event alive

by admin May 29, 2025

After months of drama, the future of Creator Clash 3 has been officially revealed, including a new venue and a new date for fight night.

Creator Clash is a charity-focused influencer-boxing event founded by YouTube star iDubbbz and his partner, Anisa. The first Creator Clash took place in 2022, receiving rave reviews and raising over $1.3 million for organizations like American Heart Association, the Alzheimer’s Association of America and Healing Horse Therapy Center.

However, its second iteration became overshadowed by drama between participating fighters and the event’s organizers, and even suffered a net loss of $250K to piracy.

It was uncertain if Creator Clash 3 would ever take place — but in early 2025, iDubbbz revealed that he’d planned another influencer-boxing extravaganza with some major content creators lined up to fight.

Joseph Correa, FrontProof MediaCreator Clash 1 was met with praise from viewers and participating influencers – but the event’s second iteration onwards has been decidedly less positive.

Once again, Creator Clash came under fire after iDubbbz released a ‘Content Cop’ expose video focused on H3H3’s Ethan Klein, sparking even more backlash against the event and resulting in at least two fighters dropping out.

The future of Creator Clash 3 was uncertain as names like Will Neff claimed it had been rescheduled “far in the future” — but now, fans finally have some official answers.

Creator Clash 3 rescheduled as more details revealed

As revealed on May 29, 2025, Creator Clash 3 is now scheduled for Saturday, October 25, 2025 in Los Angeles, CA at the Hollywood Palladium. For those unable to attend in person, the fights will be live streamed on Veeps.

The event was initially slated to take place on June 28, 2025 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, but it has since been delayed.

A ‘Transparency Q&A’ posted to the official Creator Clash website revealed further details about the event, confirming that iDubbbz and Anisa have fully stepped away from the brand “in every capacity as stakeholders, event managers and creatives to give the event space to grow under new leadership.”

Now, Real Good Touring’s Arin Hanson, along with former Creator Clash boxers Ethan Nestor (formerly Crankgameplays) and Alanah Pierce are the official spokespersons for Creator Clash 3.

YouTube: iDubbbzTViDubbbz and Anisa have officially stepped away from the Creator Clash brand, completely.

All in-person tickets for the initial event date are being refunded through Ticketmaster, while PPV tickets are still being honored for the new date in October. However, those hoping to refund their PPV tickets will also be able to do so.

More information about the new event will be revealed in the coming weeks, and not every fighter previously confirmed will be present in October. Several “fresh faces” are expected to join the fray as Creator Clash 3 works on building a new lineup.

The website also clarified that the creators fighting in CC3 are receiving a guaranteed purse to help cover training and travel costs, and 20% of net profits are being distributed evenly among all participating fighters.

Additionally, a 34% profit share, which was initially allocated to Ian and Anisa, will be split among the fighters now that they have fully stepped back from the event.

Creator Clash 3 will continue its current fundraising efforts, with the Q&A assuring viewers that “all funds raised so far are secure and unaffected.” Stand Up To Cancer remains as the beneficiary of this year’s event.

“While Creator Clash is a traditionally promoted, for-profit event, the financial success of the event does not impact the amount raised for charity,” the site reads.

“This structure, separating charitable fundraising from business operations, is new to this year and was put in place after the setbacks and confusion that followed last year’s event. It’s part of our commitment to rebuild trust and keep our charitable mission clear, transparent, and protected.”

In a YouTube video uploaded that same day, Ethan Nestor spoke out about the drama surrounding Creator Clash 3, saying, “We’re not trying to have any external internet bullsh*t. It’s just supposed to be a fun boxing event for charity. That’s really what it should be.”

“Creator Clash is such a special event,” Arin Hanson said in a statement provided to Dexerto. “Fighting in it was one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life and seeing how hard the Creator Clash 3 fighters have been training, we need to do right by them, the fans, and the charity, in creating the best experience possible. We’re making the changes to make that happen.”

Brian Eno, creator of the Windows 95 startup sound, calls on Microsoft to sever ties with Israel: ‘If you knowingly build systems that can enable war crimes, you inevitably become complicit in those crimes’

by admin May 23, 2025

Art rock legend Brian Eno has called on Microsoft to sever its ties with the government of Israel, saying the company’s provision of cloud and AI services to Israel’s Ministry of Defense “support a regime that is engaged in actions described by leading legal scholars and human rights organizations, the United Nations experts, and increasing numbers of governments from around the world, as genocidal.”

Eno’s connection with Microsoft goes back 30 years—he composed the famous boot-up jingle for Windows 95 that was recently inducted into the National Recording Registry at the US Library of Congress.

“I gladly took on the project as a creative challenge and enjoyed the interaction with my contacts at the company,” Eno wrote in an open letter posted to Instagram (via Stereogum). “I never would have believed that the same company could one day be implicated in the machinery of oppression and war.”

You may like

Eno referenced Microsoft’s May 15 statement “on the issues relating to technology services in Israel and Gaza,” in the which company acknowledged providing Israel’s Ministry of Defense with various technologies and services but denied any culpability in IMOD’s ongoing attacks on Gaza—although it also said that it “does not have visibility into how customers use our software on their own servers or other devices,” essentially admitting that it doesn’t really know what’s going on at all.

Regardless, Eno clearly isn’t interested in Microsoft’s protestations of innocence: “Selling and facilitating advanced AI and cloud services to a government engaged in systematic ethnic cleansing is not ‘business as usual’. It is complicity. If you knowingly build systems that can enable war crimes, you inevitably become complicit in those crimes.”

Eno called on Microsoft to “suspend all services that support any operations that contribute to violations of international law,” and said he “stand[s] in solidarity with the brave Microsoft workers who have done something truly disruptive and refused to stay silent. They risk their livelihoods for people who have lost and will continue to lose their lives.”

Two Microsoft employees interrupted the company’s 50th anniversary event in early April to protest its entanglements with the Israeli military; both were fired less than a week later, but in spite of that similar protests occurred earlier this week at Microsoft’s Build developer conference. The fate of those employees is not yet known.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

Eno invited “artists, technologists, musicians, and all people of conscience” to join him in the call, and pledged that his fee for creating the Windows 95 startup sound will “go towards helping the victims of the attacks on Gaza. If a sound can signal a real change then let it be this one.”

28 Days Later creator set to write & direct Elden Ring movie

by admin May 23, 2025

After weeks of rumors, it’s now been confirmed that Alex Garland will tackle an Elden Ring adaptation, bringing From Software’s most popular game to the big screen.

While earlier FromSoft titles like Dark Souls and Bloodborne certainly did well, Elden Ring was a smash hit beyond compare. It quickly became one of the best-selling games ever, with millions of players venturing through the Lands Between.

It’s proven so popular, in fact, we’re now getting a feature film out of it. Having always been onboard with the idea of an adaptation, the Japanese game devs have now given the green light for A24 to turn Elden Ring into a movie.

Article continues after ad

Not only that, but acclaimed writer and director Alex Garland is attached. While known best for the likes of 28 Days Later, Ex Machina, and most recently, Civil War and Warfare, Garland has long been a vocal supporter of the gaming industry. Now, he’s set to adapt one of the biggest games in recent history.

Elden Ring movie officially moving ahead

After rumors began to circulate earlier in the year, A24 confirmed its plans to make an Elden Ring movie on May 22, 2025. Garland is set to both write and direct the live-action film, translating the source material originally created by FromSoft, with help from Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin.

Article continues after ad

Martin created the foundation for which the story of Elden Ring was built upon, laying the groundwork with history of the realm, its characters, and more. Seemingly eager to do anything but finish his series of novels, Martin himself is also attached in a producing role for the Elden Ring film.

Given it’s still early days, there’s no quite telling just how the live-action film may look. Elden Ring, much like all other Soulslikes, features otherworldly monsters and larger-than-life bosses while leaving much of its lore to loose descriptions for players to piece together.

Article continues after ad

There’s also no telling if it will be a direct adaptation of the game’s storyline, or whether Garland will pen a new story in the mega-popular universe. Only time will tell and we’ll be sure to keep you posted as further details emerge.

Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto explains Donkey Kong’s recent makeover

by admin May 22, 2025

Donkey Kong – Nintendo’s mighty monkey with a penchant for bananas – received a bit of a makeover recently, and now we know why.

We originally got a look at DK’s new in-game look back in January, when the gorilla starred in the first brief teaser for Mario Kart World. At this time, fans noticed he looked much closer to his Super Mario Bros. film design than before. Since then, this look has been featured in plenty of Nintendo advertising, and of course the main monkey is set to star in his own Switch 2 game – Donkey Kong Bananza – later this year.

Now, Donkey Kong designer and Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto has shed some light as to why the company chose to redesign his iconic character for this generation.

Donkey Kong Bananza Hands-On Preview: Is It Good? Watch on YouTube

Speaking with IGN, Miyamoto said “when it comes to character creation and working with characters”, he still has an active role in what goes on.

“Looking back to the first generation Donkey Kong Country, we worked with Rare to create Donkey Kong Country,” Miyamoto continued. “When we were talking about trying to create new versions, evolving Donkey Kong, we created the game called Jungle Beat. We worked together with the team that made 3D Mario. With the technology that was available at the time, we were able to make Donkey Kong more expressive.”

The creator furthered that “going back to the design that Rare came up with, we reevaluated”, with the team wanting to come up with something to make DK’s design “more expressive” than before.

“And then when it comes to the movie, we decided to move forward with this new generation Donkey Kong design,” Miyamoto concluded.

DK’s new in-game look is closer to his character in the Super Mario Bros. film (pictured here). | Image credit: Nintendo/Universal

Soon after Donkey Kong’s redesign was first revealed, former Rare artist Kevin Bayliss shared his thoughts on the new look, stating: “You can take the KONG out of the Country, but you can’t take the Country out of the Kong! (I love it – this is really funny! – Everything changes! – Change is good!).”

As for the monkey’s upcoming game, Eurogamer’s former EIC Tom Phillips has already had some time with Donkey Kong Bananza, which is set to launch on Switch 2 on 17th July.

“Yes, everyone might have been expecting Mario, but Bananza’s brawny obliteration is far better suited to his one-time enemy,” he wrote after going hands-on with Donkey Kong Bananza.

Cyberpunk 2077 sequel features second city that’s like “Chicago gone wrong”, says series creator

by admin May 21, 2025

Mike Pondsmith, the creator of the Cyberpunk tabletop RPG that formed the basis of Cyberpunk 2077, has been discussing CD Projekt’s in-development sequel, saying it’ll feature second city that feels like “Chicago gone wrong”.

CD Projekt confirmed a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel was in the works back in 2022, and only a scant few details have been shared since then. We know it’s currently being referred to by the codename Project Orion, for instance, that it’s being developed by CD Projekt’s Boston and Vancouver studios, and… well, that’s about it.

Pondsmith, though, has now provided what might just be the first tangible details of CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. Speaking to TVGRY during this year’s Digital Dragons Conference in Krakow, he explained that while he’s “not as involved directly” with Project Orion as he was its predecessor, he still sees the scripts and has been visiting its development studio.

Here’s a trailer for Cyberpunk 2077’s Ultimate Edition.Watch on YouTube

“Last week,” he revealed, “I was wandering around talking to different departments and seeing what they had… I spent a lot of time talking to one of the environment guys, and he was explaining how the new place in Orion… because there’s another city we visit, and I’m not telling you anymore than that.”

Luckily for everyone (except, perhaps, CD Projekt, which seems unlikely to have sanctioned any of these reveals), Pondsmith did share a little more. First, he confirmed “Night City is still there” alongside this second location, before teasing how Project Orion’s two cities will differentiate themselves. “I remember looking at [the new location] and going, ‘Yeah, I understand the feel that you’re going for, and this really does work. It doesn’t feel like Blade Runner, it feels more like Chicago gone wrong’. And I said, ‘Yeah, I can see this working.'”

Interestingly, while Pondsmith only suggested Project Orion’s second location was like Chicago, fans have long speculated the actual city of Chicago will play a key role in CD Projekt’s sequel. As explained in a fairly comprehensive post on the Cyberpunk subreddit, the in-universe version of Chicago has struggled through both an economic collapse, a corporate war, and a bio-plague – so “gone wrong” would very much apply here. Additionally, Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty expansion features a possible ending that can nudge players several years forward in the timeline, after which the Transcontinental Maglev Network project referenced in the base game – one linking Night City with Chicago – is revealed to be complete.

It’s certainly a compelling theory, especially given Pondsmith’s latest chatter, but there’s obviously no guarantee any of this will make it through the years of development required to turn Project Orion – which is currently in the pre-production phase – into a complete and released game. That won’t happen until sometime after The Witcher 4’s still-nebulous launch window – but at least that leaves plenty of time to wrap up the original Cyberpunk 2077, which will soon be making its Nintendo debut on Switch 2.

There’s A Demo For To A T, The Next Game From Katamari Damacy Creator, Out Now

by admin May 20, 2025

Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi and his indie studio uvula announced last year that their next game is about a boy who lives life in a t-pose called “to a T.” We recently learned it’s launching on May 28 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and the team has released a demo ahead of the game’s launch.

You can check it out now on PC via Steam (sorry PS5 and Xbox players) to get a quick look at the game, what to expect, and how it plays. Considering it’s coming from the mind behind Katamari Damacy, expect some fun hijinks. Plus, your save data transfers over to the final game.

“A charming, colorful adventure game from the creator of Katamari Damacy and the uvula team about a teen navigating life in a small town with their cute dog companion,” the game’s Steam description reads. “While their body is stuck in a T-pose, they do their best to make the most of it.”

The Steam page also details what to expect of the full game, including an episodic story that unfolds over multiple days, plenty of minigames, a cute town to explore, and unique character customization. You can get a taste of all this in the to a T demo, which is available right now.
