DX Terminal Tops NFT Sales Count in September as Base Dominates Top 10

by admin September 30, 2025

Ethereum layer-2 network Base’s non-fungible token (NFT) ecosystem took center stage in September, recording the highest sales count among collections, according to DappRadar data.

NFTs on Base captured five of the top 10 spots by sales count in September, with DX Terminal and BasePaint securing the first and second ranks. The strong showing highlighted Base’s rapid ascent as a hub for experimental NFT projects, edging into territory long dominated by Ethereum and Polygon.

Despite a surge in sales of Base NFTs, DappRadar data showed that trading volumes remained concentrated on Polygon and Ethereum collections. Polygon-based Courtyard led the month with $43.9 million, while Ethereum-based Moonbirds and CryptoPunks followed with $34 million and $25.8 million, respectively.

Meanwhile, Base’s DX Terminal took the number four spot in trading volume with $25.5 million, showcasing a nearly 1,700% surge, according to DappRadar.

AI NFTs take center stage in September

DX Terminal stood out as the driving force behind Base’s rise in the NFT charts. The project recorded 1.27 million sales, an over 1,000% increase compared to the previous month. It also had over 200,000 traders transacting with the NFTs in September.

The project introduces a gaming format where NFTs act as AI-powered trader agents inside a retro-futuristic market simulation. Each NFT represents an autonomous character with distinct traits and behaviors. These characters compete to amass in-game wealth and status while reacting to player prompts, rival firms and non-playable characters.

Unlike traditional NFT games offering play-to-earn (P2E) mechanics, DX Terminal doesn’t offer direct token rewards or any real-world payouts. While the game has in-game tokens, they are not tied to real-world monetary value.

In May, DX Terminal said that its in-game native currency, WEBCOIN, existed offchain and was internally managed.

“The in-game currency holds no real-world value, and any external tokens claiming affiliation are unofficial,” the team said.

Gaming NFTs defy broader market downturn

Among the top 10 NFTs by trading volume, only DX Terminal and Immutable’s Guild of Guardians Heroes NFTs, tied to a role-playing game (RPG), posted gains in September.

DappRadar data showed that blue-chip collections such as CryptoPunks, Pudgy Penguins and the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) saw trading volumes drop by about 50% to 60% over the past month.

Even Courtyard and Moonbirds, which ranked first and second by trading volume during the month, posted declines of around 25% and 13.6%, respectively.

Nintendo argues mods should not count as “prior art” in Pocketpair patent lawsuit

by admin September 22, 2025

Nintendo has argued that mods should not count as “prior art” in its patent lawsuit against Palworld developer Pocketpair.

According to Games Fray, which sent a “neutral person” to inspect the Nintendo v. Pocketpair case file, Nintendo does not want mods to be recognised as prior art in the lawsuit, which the publication explained is “previously published material that could be held against its patents.”

In February 2025, Pocketpair filed multiple “preparatory briefs,” according to Games Fray, arguing that Nintendo’s patent lawsuit shouldn’t have been granted as there was prior art “before the relevant priority date that already covered what Nintendo claimed to have invented.”

Pocketpair’s invalidity arguments pointed to a number of mods as proof of this, including the Dark Souls 3 meets Pokémon mod, Pocket Souls, the Pixelmon mod for Minecraft, and the NukaMon mod for Fallout 4.

Nintendo has argued, however, that mods are not prior art as they cannot run independently, unlike the games they run on.

“This does not convince us from a patent law point of view,” Games Fray said. “The question is not whether a gamer who sees the game would likely use the mod or the other way round. What matters is whether game makers looking for inspiration would turn to mods. Of course they would.”

The judge in the case will decide whether mods do, in fact, count as prior art, but Games Fray reports that its sister site, ip fray, noted that courts usually reject these attempts to “narrow the pool for prior art references in unreasonable ways.”

Games Fray also reported that there “clearly are delays” with the case and “it looks like nothing will happen in that litigation during the remainder of this year.”

Last week, Pocketpair announced it is aiming for Palworld to exit early access in 2026, despite the ongoing lawsuit.

Discord raises user count to allow 25M people in a single server

by admin September 5, 2025

Discord has raised the maximum default server limit to 25 million users, just two months after increasing it to 2.5 million.

In July 2025, the platform expanded its cap from 500,000 to 2.5 million. Now, the ceiling has been pushed even further, allowing some of the largest online communities to grow significantly larger.

According to Discord, the update is paired with technical improvements aimed at reducing strain on massive servers. These include batching certain server updates and shifting more processes to asynchronous operations.

“In our July 2025 Patch Notes entry (only two months ago!), we mentioned that we increased the default user limit for servers from 500K to 2.5M,” they said.

“Well… we pushed that even *further* and have now bumped that limit to 25 million users. We also continued to solve larger server pain points by batching certain types of server updates and moving to more asynchronous operations to help bring more stability to large servers.

“We’re committed to providing a great experience for our users, and we’re hoping this work is felt by users and admins of very large servers.”

Stability for larger servers

Discord said the changes are meant to improve stability and create a smoother experience for users and administrators running large-scale communities.

The company noted in its announcement that the expansion is part of an ongoing effort to solve pain points for servers operating at a massive scale, emphasizing its commitment to supporting the growth of major online hubs.

Deadlock’s latest update revives the game with massive player count increase

by admin August 24, 2025

After the initial player count boom that came with Deadlock Alpha access, the player count has steadily fallen. And, sure, it’s not publicly available yet, but the player count going from close to 200k at “launch” to around 10k before the latest update isn’t exactly ideal.

Deadlock has maintained a small yet loyal following through its lengthy Alpha. If you consider 10-15k players small, anyways. There’s pretty much never been a point where queues aren’t popping, and there are some people really grinding to learn ahead of the eventual release.

However, the average player moved on. Updates take months at this point, with the dev team generally shifting away from rapid changes to work on more substantial updates.

And, around 3 months after the last big update, the team really delivered. Between releasing 6 new heroes in the span of less than 2 weeks, new music, a UI overhaul, and, for those who haven’t played since last year, a completely new map. There’s a lot to love here, and players are Deadlocked in.

Deadlock earns players back with massive update

So, why are so many people returning to Deadlock all at once if the previous updates didn’t win them over?

At the time of writing, only three of the six revealed characters have been released. But that’s a key part of why player retention has been so high: Players get to vote for the next character they want, but they have to play matches in order to earn votes.

However, this wouldn’t mean anything if the game wasn’t fun. Fortunately, the new roster of heroes has players more engaged than ever.

The proposition of fun and exciting new characters combined with the ability to earn your way toward deciding who’s next seems to be a winning formula for player retention, but that’s not all. The UI, menus, music, and many of the character designs have had some massive quality of life improvements, especially if you’re someone who hasn’t played since last year.

Between the new map, an easier to access item system, 3 lanes instead of 4, and a whole lot of quality of life changes, it’s no surprise that players are hopping in and sticking around.

DeadlockThe Doorman is the newest Deadlock character at the time of writing, and he’s probably the closest thing we’re ever going to get to Portal 3.

Deadlock went from 14k peak players to around 28k in the day after the update, but it’s since catapulted all the way to 47k. This is the biggest peak Deadlock has had in months, and there are no signs of that momentum stopping.

While the game is nowhere close to a full release yet, Valve is putting their full force into making their vision for Deadlock a reality.
