Intel commences mass layoffs with over 100 Californian employees, including around 45 engineers in efforts to shed $500 million in operating costs this year

by admin June 26, 2025

For most of this year we’ve been hearing murmurs of Intel’s plans to drastically reduce its workforce. As of today we’re starting to see what the true scope of Intel’s downsizing will be, with around 107 employees set to lose their jobs in California. These planned firings have been an ongoing story for Intel, having already cut 5% of its workforce back in 2024.

According to CRN, last Wednesday Intel provided the notice required by Californian law alerting employees to their imminent doom. The employees affected are all connected to the Santa Clara headquarters, and are all a part of Intel’s plans to reduce operating expenses by $500 million over this year, with the goal to drop another $1 billion in 2026.

“As we announced earlier this year, we are taking steps to become a leaner, faster and more efficient company. Removing organizational complexity and empowering our engineers will enable us to better serve the needs of our customers and strengthen our execution,” said an Intel spokesperson.

Related articles

They also reiterated the 20% figure we’ve heard before about how many employees Intel is planning to layoff. This is after Intel had claimed that those numbers were an exaggeration.

Thanks to California’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, a large layoff like this in a short amount of time requires proper warning and transparency. The notice states layoffs will commence on July 15, and those let go will have either 60 days notice in advance, or receive a four-week notice with nine-weeks of pay and benefits for the trouble. Hopefully this is enough to give these employees a fair chance at landing on their feet.

What’s a little surprising is the roles that have been noted in this mass layoff. Previous Intel has implied it would be cutting out middle-men to focus on engineering talent, but among the roles are plenty of engineering jobs.

CRN provide a list of these jobs, which include “22 physical design engineers, three physical design engineering managers, three system-on-chip logic design engineers, three product development engineers, four design-for-test design engineers, six cloud software architects, four cloud software engineering managers and two cloud software development engineers.”

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

That’s just a tad under 50% of the total number, just in engineering roles.

Though there were also a fair few manager roles among the casualties, including an AI systems and solutions engineering manager, engineering project manager, silicon design engineering manager, and a bunch of others. With Intel’s recent choice to outsource marketing to a consultancy firm using AI, it’s likely there’s another channel of jobs set to go on the cutting block there too.

This is all in line with the company’s new CEO, Lip-Bu Tan’s plan, to meet those goals of cutting operation expenses as much as possible. Sadly, I think we’re going to have to wait and watch to see how close Intel gets to that 20% quota.

Why Pay for a DualSense When This Luna Controller Costs Half the Price for Early Prime Day?

by admin June 25, 2025

Amazon may not be the first name that comes to mind for gaming, but it’s definitely a major player in the industry. With Twitch at the heart of streaming and its own cloud gaming service, Luna, Amazon is everywhere for gamers.

The company has also designed a controller specifically for Luna but it’s far more than just a cloud gaming accessory. In fact, most people use the Luna Controller as a universal gamepad for a wide range of devices—PCs, Sony PlayStation, Xbox, and more.

Right now, the Luna Controller is available at its lowest price ever on Amazon: For just $39, that’s a hefty discount from its $69 MSRP (43% off) and much less expensive than buying multiple Xbox or Sony DualSense controllers which cost between $50 to $100 per controller.

Great Gaming Controller

The Luna Controller is a gaming controller with offset thumbsticks for gaming comfort, bumpers within easy reach, accurate triggers and responsive action buttons. The 4-way directional pad adds to its classic controller shape so it’ll be ideal for playing all types of games. The controller’s ergonomic design ensures that it will be comfortable to hold, even for long gaming sessions. It has a rugged construction with a premium finish that’s comparable to more expensive controllers.

Designed to work in perfect tandem with Amazon’s Luna cloud gaming service, it offers a direct connection to Amazon’s custom-built game servers using Cloud Direct technology. That provides for low-latency gaming which is important for responsive, lag-free gameplay. But the usefulness of the Luna Controller extends far beyond Luna: It can connect to pretty much any device via Bluetooth, from Windows and Mac computers to Fire TV, Fire tablets, iPhones, iPads, Chromebooks, and gaming consoles. If you prefer a wired connection, the controller also supports USB.

Amazon’s Luna Controller is proof that Amazon is serious about gaming. Do not miss the opportunity to have a multi-use controller in your hands before the sale ends.

This Battery-Powered Doorbell Now Costs Peanuts, Amazon Is Clearing Out Google’s Stock

by admin June 16, 2025

When it comes to home security and convenience, the battery-powered Google Nest Doorbell is a top choice for many and for good reason. This device offers the flexibility of battery power which makes it perfect for those who want a smart doorbell without the hassle of wiring—something especially appealing if you’re not comfortable working with electrical systems.

With this model, installation is as simple as mounting the device to your door frame and you’re set. No drilling holes, no complicated wiring: just immediate, reliable access to (Wi-Fi) live video and smart alerts. It’s this ease of use that has helped the Google Nest Doorbell consistently rank among the top 10 best-selling doorbells on Amazon, a testament to its popularity and effectiveness.

Now, Amazon has cut the price of the battery-powered Google Nest Doorbell down to as little as $129 from the original launch price of $179. This battery model is especially attractive because it’s for renters or whoever doesn’t want to make any such permanent changes to their home. The battery life is amazing, typically months between recharging depending on usage, so you’re not continually removing and plugging in the device.

The Google Nest Doorbell features that make it one of the smartest and simplest-to-use doorbells on the market. It has live HD video with HDR and night vision so you can watch what’s happening at your door at any time. The camera’s high vertical field of view makes it easy to capture individuals from head to foot or packages fallen on the floor and eliminates blind spots and not letting you miss anything. Doorbell is equipped with intelligence that enables it to detect people, packages, pets, and vehicles and send you customized notifications in the Google Home app – no subscription required.

The device works with any door and you can even install it yourself in just minutes. If your Wi-Fi goes out or you lose electricity, the doorbell will buffer an hour of recorded events so you can always know what you missed. For additional needs, you can pay for a Nest Aware subscription (bought separately) to see as much as 60 days’ worth of event video history, though note that the battery model doesn’t come with constant 24/7 recording even in the event of a subscription.

At its current price, it’s one of the best deals you’ll find for a smart doorbell.

If You Own a PS5, the PlayStation DualSense Controller Costs Peanuts on Amazon

by admin June 11, 2025

If you own a PS5, having multiple controllers is almost a necessity as there’s nothing better than sharing your favorite PlayStation games with friends or family in the same room. While it’s always wise to have a spare controller ready for multiplayer sessions or simply as a backup for you, genuine discounts on the PlayStation DualSense wireless controller are rare.

Even during Black Friday, major promotions were hard to find which makes this moment the perfect opportunity to add another controller to your setup. Right now, the PlayStation DualSense controller is available on Amazon for just $54 which is a substantial 27% off its usual $74 price. This limited-time deal marks an all-time low, so it’s an ideal time to buy, especially if you missed out on previous sales.

See at Amazon

Why We Love It

The biggest feature of the DualSense controler is haptic feedback which puts the feel of in-game action and environments right in your hands. Whether you’re racing down rough roads, wielding guns or feeling the crash of a collision, the controller’s next-gen vibration motors plunge you further into the game.

Aside from the haptic feedback, adaptive triggers provide varying levels of force and tension so that you can feel the distinction between drawing back a bowstring or slamming on the brakes in a racing title. They work together to create a feeling of realism and immersion that was not achievable on previous PlayStation controllers.

The built-in microphone allows you to chat online without a headset and the 3.5mm audio jack allows you to plug in your favorite headphones for individual use. The create button is convenient to use to capture and stream your most excellent gaming moments in case you’re playing with buddies or capturing highlights to playback later. The controller’s iconic appearance has been fine-tuned for comfort with enhanced sticks and an intuitive layout that feels great in your hand even after long gaming sessions.

DualSense isn’t only for PlayStation 5 gamers: With its USB Type-C and Bluetooth connectivity, you can easily play it on Windows desktops and Macs too which gives you even more gaming possibilities outside of the console. Most high-end PC games currently support advanced features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, which lets you experience the same immersive experience playing from your computer.

With over 33,000 reviews and a lovely 4.6 out of 5-star rating, the PlayStation DualSense Wireless Controller is a proven winner among gamers. Don’t hesitate too much: These sales don’t come around often, and the stock may not be here.

New Fantastic Four Popcorn Bucket Costs More Than Most Games

New Fantastic Four Popcorn Bucket Costs More Than Most Games

by admin June 10, 2025

Image: Marvel / AMC / Kotaku

AMC and Marvel’s new Fantastic Four: First Steps popcorn bucket now has a price tag, and if you want to get your hands on this massive Galactus-shaped popped corn vessel, you’ll need to spend $80. Yikes.

Black Ops 7, Invincible Vs & More — Here Are The 5 Games That Stole Microsoft’s Show

I’ll admit that I was genuinely surprised when, earlier this month, Marvel and AMC first teased and then unveiled the Galactus popcorn bucket. The thing is bonkers and seems way too big to actually be used as a popcorn bucket in a crowded movie theater. The Galactus bucket is 17 inches tall and covered in a faux-metal outer skin. It looks pretty good and even includes LED lights in the eyes. But something this big and fancy doesn’t come cheap. And if you want one of these big heads, you’ll have to spend the same amount of money on it as you would on a copy of Mario Kart World.

The new AMC Galactus bucket is listed on the website for an eye-watering $79.95, and that’s before tax! This high price was officially revealed a few days ago, but has started making the rounds via social media and Reddit as people react to the idea of spending $80+ on a bucket of popcorn. But hey, AMC does confirm that the container includes a free large order of popcorn. Honestly, it should come with a free drink, too.

“Motherfucker, I work at a theatre and we can BARELY sell the $20-$30 novelty buckets until we start discounting them because they don’t sell for shit,” said one user on Bluesky. I’ve heard similar stories while talking to other AMC employees about these gimmick buckets for a future report.

Many tell me that they will sit around for ages, and sometimes are sold for a few dollars a few weeks after the movie hits theaters. Although at the same time, I’m also told that there are people out there who collect these buckets and will call ahead to procure one and not even watch the movie it’s based on. So, as always, when you incredulously ask, “Is anyone going to buy this?” the answer is still yes.

Retro Workstation for Mac Mini M4
Gaming Gear

The most bizarre dock for Mac Mini M4 looks like an old Mac and costs almost $200

by admin June 9, 2025

  • Retro Workstation for Mac Mini M4 looks like a Mac from the past, but it’s all about modern ports
  • The helmet-shaped dock is nostalgic eye candy, but the price invites real scrutiny
  • It’s cute, it’s quirky, but it might be more gimmick than workstation for power users

A new docking station has emerged for the Apple Mac Mini M4 blending retro design with modern functionality.

Wokyis has unveiled the Retro Workstation for Mac Mini M4, now available for pre-order on the crowdfunding platform Prelaunch.

At first glance, it’s hard not to be captivated by its helmet-like silhouette, clearly inspired by the original Macintosh. But as with many products that trade heavily on nostalgia, questions around real-world utility and value inevitably arise.

A throwback form factor with modern ambitions

The dock mimics the shape of the original Macintosh, featuring a matte casing and a 5-inch HD LCD screen (1280 x 720) embedded where the vintage monitor would have been.

It accepts the Mac Mini M4 or M4 Pro by sitting over the device, essentially transforming Apple’s compact computer into the brain of a retro-styled workstation.

Measuring 145 x 131 x 154.3 mm and weighing 750g, it’s compact, but its added height may not appeal to those aiming for a minimalist setup.

Functionally, the unit aims to deliver more than just visual homage. Wokyis promotes it as a “13-in-1 Workstation,” describing it as “a versatile hub for daily tasks, content creation, and storage expansion.”

Sign up to the TechRadar Pro newsletter to get all the top news, opinion, features and guidance your business needs to succeed!

The device includes an M.2 NVMe SSD slot supporting up to 8TB, along with a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port offering up to 10Gbps transfer speeds. It also features USB-C connectivity, SD 4.0 and microSD slots (UHS-II compatible), HDMI input, and even a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The inclusion of the LCD screen might raise some eyebrows. While technically functional, its limited resolution and lack of touch input suggest it’s more decorative than essential.

Similarly, though the unit includes ventilation, the concept of enclosing a Mac Mini, which already has integrated thermal management, inside another structure could prove counterproductive.

The Retro Workstation is priced at $199, or $99 for a slower version limited to 10Gbps performance.

That said, it’s unclear whether the performance justifies the cost, especially when compared to the best USB hubs, many of which offer similar speeds and port availability without borrowing their aesthetic from 1984.

Amazon Is Going All In, This PlayStation VR Bundle With Horizon Call of the Mountain Now Costs Peanuts

by admin June 5, 2025

No need to hold out until Black Friday this year, though, because the current offer from Amazon on the PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle is better than anything we saw last year with holiday sales. If you don’t want to shell out more than $3,000 for an Apple VR headset, this one from PlayStation is a much better value entry to the world of virtual reality without sacrificing realism and immersion. With the all-time low price of $349, down from $399, this bundle is a great deal if you’re looking to enjoy VR.

See at Amazon

Best in Class VR Headset

The PlayStation VR2 has quickly become a consumer VR favorite thanks to its combination of state-of-the-art technology, comfort and growing library of proprietary content. With this bundle, you’re getting the very popular Horizon Call of the Mountain included which is one of the most visually impressive and immersive VR games available today. The $349 price tag is a 13% savings but more importantly, it puts high-quality virtual reality within reach of a much wider audience. Considering the hardware and the included game, this is easily the best value we’ve seen for a VR headset.

You will be impressed by the Sense technology which brings a new level of interactivity and realism to virtual experiences. Eye tracking allows the system to follow your gaze, which makes interactions more natural and intuitive. Headset feedback introduces a sense of physicality to what you see and hear with soft vibrational feedback that makes in-game action come alive. The 3D audio engine surrounds you with immersive and space-filling sound, so you can pick up on all the crunching of leaves or distant echoes as if you were actually present within the game world. The controllers are matched and haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and finger touch detection all contribute to the fact that your actions and movements in VR will feel highly responsive and accurate.

Graphically, PlayStation VR2 is an enormous leap forward compared to its predecessor (and much of the competition). The headset boasts incredible 4K HDR graphics and this offers sharp images that help to bring virtual worlds alive. The 110-degree field of view ensures you’re completely immersed, with your peripheral vision filled by the game world rather than the edges of the display. Advanced graphical rendering means smoother frame rates and more detailed environments, so whether you’re scaling mountains or exploring lush forests in Horizon Call of the Mountain, the experience is breathtakingly realistic.

Another big advantage is the ease of setup and use: In contrast to the majority of PC-based VR headsets that require complicated setups and regular updates, the PlayStation VR2 is designed to be completely compatible with the PlayStation 5. Plug it in, follow a couple of simple steps, and you’re ready to go. The headset is comfortable enough for extended game time, with an adjustable fit and slender build that won’t leave you exhausted after an hour of game time.

If you ever wanted to try virtual reality but scared of high costs or complex equipment, this package is the greatest opportunity to take the plunge.

Dow Jones snaps win streak as Fed Beige Book flags weak growth, rising costs

by admin June 4, 2025

U.S. stocks ended mixed Wednesday after a weak private payrolls report and a cautious economic outlook from the Fed’s Beige Book fueled concerns about growth, inflation, and tariffs.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average snapped a four day winning steak, closing lower by 91.90 points, or 0.22%. The S&P 500 was nearly flat, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.32% to end at 19,460.49.

Wednesday’s stock trading session sentiment was hit by a weaker-than-expected ADP employment report, which showed private payrolls rose by only 37,000 in May, notably below estimates. The reading comes ahead of Friday’s nonfarm payrolls data and may force the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates.

The yield on the 10-year Treasury dropped to 4.349%, its lowest since early May.

Fed’s Beige Book flags weakening growth, rising price pressures.

Further clouding the economic outlook, the Federal Reserve’s Beige Book, released on Wednesday morning, reported a “slight decline” in U.S. economic activity over the past six weeks. Hiring activity was mostly flat as business owners put off expansion plans due to elevated policy uncertainty from Washington and tariff-related cost pressures.

“All Districts reported elevated levels of economic and policy uncertainty,” the Fed noted. The report also cited “widespread reports of contacts expecting costs and prices to rise at a faster rate going forward.”

Tariffs were mentioned 122 times in the Beige Book, up from 107 in April.

Businesses across multiple regions, including New York and Philadelphia, reported rising input costs. Some firms are expecting reduced profit margins or passing along some additional cost to consumers to manage input spikes.

Boston, New York, and Philadelphia saw declines in activity. However, regions like Richmond, Atlanta, and Chicago reported modest growth. Overall, the Fed found that even in stronger districts, hiring activity was cautious.
