Fan-made The Crew revival gets a release date, a year and a bit on from the Ubisoft racer’s controversial shutdown

by admin September 2, 2025

The developers behind The Crew Unlimited, a community project that aims to make Ubisoft racer The Crew playable again following its unceremonious shutdown last year, have announced a release date.

If you need a bit of a refresher, Ubisoft’s decision to take The Crew’s servers offline in March 2024 rendered it totally unplayable even for those who own a physical copy, due to its online-only nature. That’s since served as the spark for the Stop Killing Games campaign we’ve reported on as its organisers have petitioned lawmakers across the world to ensure companies are required by law to put concrete end-of-life plans in place, when they decide to switch a game’s servers off. It also set a group of Crewers off on a quest to make the game playable again.

For a year or so, The Crew Unlimited’s devs have been working towards that goal. They’ve now announced a release date for their creation, which comprises of a server emulator designed to stand in for those Ubisoft took offline. As per an announcement on Discord from project lead whammy4, it’ll come out on September 15th, 2025, and be distributed for free to minimise the chances of the publisher directing their lawyers to intervene.

“We were trying everything we could, anything to preserve the game,” reads The Crew Unlimited’s freshly published website. “We eventually came to the conclusion that writing a server emulator for The Crew was the best and only solution. This would allow us to effectively implement both an Offline Mode and an Online Mode back into the game, Offline Mode simply being a local server running on your computer while playing the game. Your local server, your local savegames, your game. No one will ever be able to take this away from you now.”

The Crew Unlimited’ll be grabbable from that same site once it’s live, and you’ll need to have owned The Crew on PC before to access it, as the devs won’t be illegally distributing game files. You know, because that’d almost definitely result in Ubisoft’s lawyers coming down like a ton of bricks. Though, the project’s Discord FAQ does see them admit that they’ve got no way on their end of telling a legit copy from a pirated copy, so they’ll have to let all players in regardless, which sounds far from ideal.

In a Discord discussion linked in the FAQ, the devs have made some notes about what works in terms of re-downloading your old The Crew save files. I’d say players may well be in for a tricky time getting things up and running. The devs say you’ll need to start from scratch unless you only want to play offline, and have already used a tool they developed to dump your save prior to the game’s shutdown.

Meanwhile, they also hint that their online server may harbour a few additions or changes. That said, the group insist tweaks outside of any new stuff would be limited to “technical improvements and careful rebalancing”, and that they’d “never change the core experience of the game”.

All in all, even though the project’s been public info for around a year now, with whammy4 having posted videos of them driving around in it to YouTube, it’s maybe worth waiting to see how the release plays out before you give it a go.

Cracker Barrel keeps controversial rebrand but admits they “could’ve done better”

by admin August 25, 2025

Cracker Barrel is sticking with its new logo and modern redesign despite heavy backlash, admitting the rollout could have been handled better.

The Southern restaurant chain faced criticism after dropping its long-time image of a man sitting by a barrel, affectionately known as Uncle Hershel, in favor of a text-only logo.

Alongside the rebrand, Cracker Barrel has been updating its restaurants with sleeker, modern interiors, ditching the rustic Americana style the brand has long been known for.

Cracker Barrel responds to backlash

On August 25, the company released a statement acknowledging the uproar.

“If the last few days have shown us anything, it’s how truly deeply people care about Cracker Barrel. We’re truly grateful for your heartfelt voices,” the company said. “You’ve also shown us we could’ve done a better job sharing who we are and who we’ll always be.”

“The things people love most about our stores aren’t going anywhere: rocking chairs on the porch, a warm fire in the hearth, peg games on the table, unique treasures in our gift shop, and vintage Americana with antiques pulled straight from our warehouse in Lebanon, Tennessee.”

Cracker Barrel emphasized that while the logo has changed, the values of the brand remain the same: “hard work, family, and scratch-cooked food made with care.”

As for Uncle Hershel, Cracker Barrel stressed he is still “family,” appearing on menus, road signs, and in stores, just not in the main logo. Furthermore, they stated that their biggest focus is what’s “in the kitchen and on your plate.”

Cracker Barrel customers still unhappy with rebrand

The reassurance has done little to calm critics. On Facebook, Cracker Barrel’s post drew more laugh and angry reactions than likes.

“If Cracker Barrel still loves Uncle Hershel, and he’s still on the menu, why spend money to purposely change the outside sign to NOT include him?” one user asked.

Another blasted the modern look: “The new interior looks like a sterile, institutionalized retirement home. The cabin-y look is what made CB unique.”

Despite the backlash, Cracker Barrel is standing firm. As reported by Fox News, the company cited research showing 87% of respondents either liked or loved the new design.

Whether customers adjust to the new look or keep demanding the return of the old logo remains to be seen, but for now, Cracker Barrel isn’t turning back.

Black Ops 7 devs address Call of Duty’s controversial skins

by admin August 20, 2025

Black Ops 7 devs have opened up about controversial Call of Duty skins, mentioning how they’re considering feedback from the community.

Much like any other shooter, the Call of Duty franchise offers a plethora of different skins that players can use, some of which are part of limited-time crossovers from different franchises.

Black Ops 6, for example, has its share of crossover skins or bundles that players are fond of. However, it’s no secret that some out there have not been well-received by the community.

One major complaint stems from how the choices of some characters feel out of place, leading to fans dubbing them ‘wacky’ as they clash with the game’s aesthetics. As the hype for Black Ops 7 mounts, devs have spoken up regarding players’ feedback on this very subject.

Black Ops 7 devs are paying attention to feedback for skins

activisionCall of Duty has been releasing goofy skins like this for years.

In an interview with IGN, Associate Creative Director Miles Leslie responded to a question on whether fans can expect to see these kinds of designs in the upcoming title.

Having thought about this, he explained that the team is “always looking at community feedback.

“We always try to make sure that we are trying to touch the widest audience. I’ve had the pleasure of working on Call of Duty now for almost 20 years, and we’re constantly looking at ways to push into different audiences and fans, and that’s what you saw with that; there are fans that really love it,” he added.

He’s aware that “there are fans who those may not be their favorite.” That said, he assured players that the team is going to “try to calibrate that” as they “move forward” and “take that feedback seriously.”

Ultimately, he stressed: “But again, we are trying to make sure that all fans feel represented in the game and figuring out that tight balance is something we’re paying attention to.”

As many players have already pointed out, one of the main issues with some crossovers is that they feel “cartoonish” in a game like CoD. This is a very different case from Fortnite, which has a stylized look instead of a more realistic and gritty style.

Black Ops 7 is set to release on November 14, 2025. It’ll still be a while until then, but so far, devs have shared plenty of details, such as having more Mystery camos, Tac-Sprint change, as well as 16 6v6 maps.
