Studio of former Disco Elysium staff rename forthcoming detective RPG and shift from familiar isometric perspective as rivalry continues

by admin September 18, 2025

Dark Math Games, a new studio of former Disco Elysium developers, have announced a change to their forthcoming debut project, which will now be a third-person RPG.

The studio is one of many that have risen from the shattering of Disco Elysium studio ZA/UM, following years of legal threats, accusations of toxic behaviour, and layoffs.

While ZA/UM still exists and is working on a new project, other rival studios have formed to create their own spiritual successor to the isometric detective RPG.

Perhaps that’s why Dark Math Games has now shifted perspective. Formerly XXXNightshift, the studio’s forthcoming project is now known as Tangerine Antarctic and will be a third-person RPG instead of isometric.

“Set at the World’s End ski village at Mount Hope, British Antarctica, Tangerine Antarctic is the name of the in-game hotel, designed by renowned Estonian architect Kaur Stőőr, where most of the games’ action takes place,” explained Timo Albert, founder and art director of Dark Math Games (formerly at ZA/UM).

“This is where you are stuck because of the blizzard and must solve the mysterious murders. And Tangerine Antarctic is one of the important characters of this true detective’s RPG.”

Dark Math Games first revealed its formation and project in October last year. Simultaneously, other former developers announced the formation of their studio Longdue, while others still announced Summer Eternal.

There’s plenty of rivalry going on, then, but ZA/UM told Eurogamer earlier this year it’s all “friendly competition”.

“For us, always we think it’s friendly competition,” said principal writer Siim (Kosmos) Sinamäe. “We’re not going to really think about what the other writers are doing, or the studios… how can I be better at my own craft? We’re competing essentially against ourselves in this way of can we take it further? Do we have to make any compromises? I think it absolutely sets us apart.”

As Stop Destroying Videogames petition verification continues in EU, organisers are preparing to ‘counter misinformation and industry lobbying’

by admin September 16, 2025

Stop Destroying Videogames – the European campaign inspired by the Stop Killing Games movement – has shared a progress update as EU countries continue verifying petition signatures, saying it’s preparing for the next stage, which will include “countering misinformation and industry lobbying”.

Stop Destroying Videogames is looking to convince the EU to pass regulations preventing “the remote disabling of video games by the publishers, before providing reasonable means to continue functioning of said video games without the involvement from the side of the publisher.” To that end, it turned to the European Citizens’ Initiative – an official EU mechanism designed to provide a way for citizens to propose a legal act to the European Commission – and successfully surpassed 1.4m signatures before the petition closed in July.

With several months having passed since then, Stop Destroying Videogames organisers have now shared a progress update on the Stop Killing Games subreddit. At present, the post explained, all signatures are being checked by national authorities. As previously noted, if 1m signatures are successfully verified (the post adds “early reports from several countries show around 97 percent of signatures being valid”), the petition can then be presented to the EU for either a public hearing or full debate session at the European Parliament. “That moment will mark the start of the legislative phase,” the post continues, “where the Commission and Parliament must decide how to respond.”

While verification continues – a process that should take around three months – Stop Destroy Videogames is preparing for the next stage of its campaign. The goal, organisers explain, is to ensure “our initiative cannot be ignored”, and so it’s working toward, “Legislative outreach to Members of Parliament and the Commission; countering misinformation and industry lobbying; strengthening our community structures to support this next stage.” Some work will, by necessity, remain behind the scenes. “Past attempts to undermine the initiative,” organisers write, “have shown us the risks of being too open.”

Stop Destroying Videogames also noted some “long-time contributors” – including Ross Scott, the figurehead of the main Stop Killing Games initiative – have “stepped back” after years of effort. In a follow-up comment, Ross clarified, “It’s more like I’m ‘on call’ for anything where me being involved would help a lot. Most of what’s happening now is best left to people familiar with EU political processes like Mortiz [Katzner], so I’m leaving most things to people who know what they’re doing better than I do to maximise our odds.”

“This campaign exists only because of you,” the post concludes, “and with your continued support we can make sure our voices are heard in Brussels.”

BTC Cohorts Return to Net Selling as Market Continues to Consolidate

by admin September 15, 2025

Glassnode data shows that all wallet cohorts have returned to distribution mode, with a net selling of bitcoin, according to the Accumulation Trend Score breakdown by wallet cohort.

This metric disaggregates the Accumulation Trend Score to show the relative behavior of different groups of wallet. It measures the strength of accumulation for each balance size based on both the entities’ size and the volume of coins acquired over the past 15 days. (For more details on the methodology, see this Academy entry.)

  • A value closer to 1 signals accumulation by that cohort.
  • A value closer to 0 signals distribution.

Exchanges, miners and other similar entities are excluded from the calculation.

Currently, all cohorts, from wallets holding less than one bitcoin to those holding more than 10,000, are net sellers. This follows last week’s rally, when some whales — most notably the 10-100 BTC and 1,000-10,000 BTC cohorts were buying. They have since flipped back to selling.

Bitcoin was recently hovering near $117,000 after Asia’s trading session pushed it up from $115,000 dollars over the weekend. Over the past three months, Asia has consistently driven bitcoin roughly 10 percent higher, according to Velo data. In contrast, the European trading session has been marked by pullbacks, which has been seen on Monday so far. In addition, bitcoin is down more than 10% in the EU market over the past three months.

Overall, the market remains in consolidation, a trend likely to persist through September. On current data, the $107,000 marked at the start of September still appears to be the most probable bottom.

Roblox continues efforts for child safety by expanding age estimation to all users by end of the year

by admin September 5, 2025

Roblox has announced it will expand its age estimation requirement to all users of the platform who access its communication features by the end of the year.

Back in July, the platform introduced new safety features, including an AI used to estimate a user’s age through video selfie. Now, in a new statement, the company plans to roll out age verification for all users, through facial age estimation, ID age verification, and verified parental consent.

Roblox also plans to limit communication between adults and minors, unless they know each other in the real world.

“These added layers of protection will help provide users with access to developmentally appropriate features and content,” reads the statement from chief safety officer Matt Kaufman. “We hope this move sets a standard that other gaming, social media, and communication platforms follow.”

In addition to age estimation, Roblox has made a number of other advancements in its safety features:

  • Introducing Trusted Connections, as per its previous update, to safeguard communication
  • Using its open-source AI system Roblox Sentinel to detect early signs of child endangerment
  • Improving voice and text filters
  • Rolling out new technology to detect specific servers where large numbers of users are breaking rules
  • Refining its avatar detection model to scan for player characters breaking rules

Since January 2025, Roblox has shipped over a hundred safety initiatives in an effort to prove its commitment to child safety.

This is in response to numerous reports of questionable safety, for which Roblox has long been criticised.

Mysterious XRP Activity on Coinbase Continues With $50,091,261 Transfer

by admin August 25, 2025

Another big chunk of XRP just showed up on Coinbase, and the way it landed looks like part of a story that has been playing out all summer. As it became usual, Whale Alert reported up to 16.59 million XRP — worth a little more than $50 million — moving from an unknown address straight into the major U.S. exchange.

On its own, a transfer like that could be explained away as a whale shifting funds, but the number lines up too cleanly with earlier moves to ignore.

Back in June, XRP researchers mapped out a set of 52 cold wallets tied to Coinbase. Ten of them each held about 26.8 million XRP, while the other 42 sat at around 16.8 million, giving the whole cluster close to a billion tokens combined.

At that point, it was one of the clearest pictures available of how the exchange stored its XRP. Fast forward two months, and only 23 wallets still fit the same mold, and the total visible balance has fallen to about 379.5 million — more than 60% lower than before.

Where does Coinbase XRP leak go?

That missing balance has not shown up elsewhere in obvious fashion, which leaves open the question of whether it has been shuffled to fresh wallets, passed to custodians or withdrawn by large clients.

In the meantime, the chart of XRP has not looked any less eventful, with the price slipping back under $3 after reclaiming higher ground briefly on the weekend.

The timing does not prove anything, but with transfers repeating in near-identical sizes, while the visible stash keeps shrinking, the sense builds that Coinbase’s XRP playbook still has pages nobody outside can read.

Metaplanet Joins FTSE Japan Index, Continues to Stack Bitcoin

by admin August 25, 2025

In brief

  • FTSE Russell’s September review has elevated the company from small-cap to mid-cap status.
  • Eric Trump, a strategic adviser since March, is expected to attend the company’s next shareholder meeting in Tokyo.
  • The inclusion will channel passive investment flows into a balance sheet centered on Bitcoin, though not without risks, analysts told Decrypt.

Metaplanet, a Tokyo-listed hotel group that over the past year has recast itself as Asia’s most active Bitcoin treasury firm, will be added to the FTSE Japan Index, further embedding the world’s largest digital asset into mainstream equity portfolios.

The change was confirmed in an announcement from FTSE Russell’s September 2025 semi-annual review on Friday, which upgraded Metaplanet from small-cap to mid-cap status, with the index inclusion taking effect after market close by September 19.

Metaplanet’s inclusion marks another “important milestone” as it attempts to stay “as Japan’s leading Bitcoin treasury company, CEO Simon Gerovich wrote Sunday on X.

Shortly after Gerovich announced the inclusion, the company disclosed the purchase of an additional 103 BTC, bringing total holdings to 18,991 BTC.

It also updated its capital structure, saying 49,000 stock acquisition rights were exercised in the week of August 18–22, adding 4.9 million shares and lifting the total to 722 million, a step that funds further Bitcoin purchases but leaves each existing investor with a smaller slice of the company.

Eric Trump, appointed as a strategic adviser to Metaplanet in March, will reportedly attend Metaplanet’s next shareholder meeting in Tokyo in September, according to a Friday report from Bloomberg.

Part of the FTSE global equity index series, the FTSE Japan Index tracks mid and large-cap companies listed in Japan. Funds that track the index automatically buy the stocks it lists.

Passive inflow effects

Metaplanet’s inclusion in the FTSE Japan and All-World indices creates a “regulated route for BTC exposures” and “paves the way for other crypto-forward companies to join major benchmarks,” Vincent Liu, chief investment officer at Kronos Research, told Decrypt.

In effect, “passive flows into the FTSE indices” could “channel institutional capital” into Metaplanet to offer indirect Bitcoin exposure, boosting “liquidity and long-term stability” despite risks where large movements “could still ripple through both equity and crypto markets,” Liu said.

At a structural level, the promotion “shows that Bitcoin treasury strategies don’t create barriers to index inclusion,” Ryan Yoon, senior analyst at Tiger Research, told Decrypt.

Metaplanet was likely evaluated “using standard criteria like market cap and trading volume, without separately considering their Bitcoin holdings,” he added.

However, the inclusion appears to represent “the existing index framework’s neutral approach rather than active crypto acceptance, “Yoon noted.

“Passive inflow effects exist structurally, but practical impact remains limited,” Yoon said, explaining that while pension funds and index funds automatically purchase Metaplanet shares when tracking FTSE Japan, it produces “small index weighting,” which means “minimal direct Bitcoin demand.”

What’s problematic, according to Yoon, is that investors might “think they’re making ‘diversified Japan equity investments’ while actually being exposed to both Bitcoin price volatility and the company’s execution capability in acquiring Bitcoin.”

Now at nearly 64% of its 2025 goal, once Metaplanet reaches its 210,000 BTC target, the dependency on Bitcoin could intensify and potentially create “unexpected volatility for passive investors who didn’t anticipate such crypto exposure,” Yoon said.
