Streamer accused of ‘tormenting’ Jean Promanove files “cyberbullying” complaint

by admin August 20, 2025

The death of Kick streamer Jean Pormanove, real name Raphaël Graven, has triggered a judicial investigation in France and mounting questions about the role of those around him. Among them is fellow streamer Owen ‘Naruto’ Cenazandotti, whose lawyers are now accusing others of cyberbullying in the aftermath.

Pormanove, 46, died in his sleep on August 18 while livestreaming on Kick. In the days leading up to his death, he reportedly endured “ten days and nights of torture” from Naruto and fellow streamer Safine, including “extreme” physical violence, “deprivation of sleep”, and “ingestion of toxic products.”

Viral clips show how, over the course of two years, he was strangled, shot with paintball guns, kicked, and humiliated.

Government officials are now involved. France’s Digital Affairs Minister Clara Chappaz called the alleged abuse an “absolute horror,” referred the case to media regulator Arcom, and flagged content to the Pharos police reporting system. A judicial inquiry is now underway.

Naruto’s lawyer files “cyberbullying” complaint amid backlash to Jean Pormanove’s death

Naruto, who had been seen on streams with Pormanove in the past, is now facing intense backlash online. His lawyer, Yassin Sadouni, insists Cenazandotti is the victim of a “campaign of cyberbullying.”

Alongside co-counsel Nabil El Ouchikli, Sadouni announced a formal complaint to the Paris Prosecutor’s Office’s cyberhate division targeting those who have harassed Naruto since Pormanove’s death.

“As he goes through a period of mourning, [Naruto] is the subject of a cyberbullying campaign,” the lawyers said in a statement.

The legal duo added, “These behaviors, in addition to being immoral, constitute criminal offenses.” Furthermore, they warned, “a complaint will be filed in the coming days with the Paris Prosecutor’s Office’s cyberhate division so that the perpetrators can be identified and prosecuted.”

Viral clips show Pormanove surrounded by so-called “friends” during his final days, subjected to escalating humiliation for the camera. In one message to his mom, reportedly sent a few days before his death, Pormanove said he felt like he was “being held hostage” and was “fed up” with the streams.

“IL ME SÉQUESTRE”

Voici ce qu’a envoyé Jean Pormanove à sa maman quelques jours avant son décès :

Yassin Sadouni has denied that his client has committed any wrongdoing.

“My client has no responsibility for this death,” he told AFP.

In January 2025, Naruto and Safine were briefly taken into custody on suspicion of producing livestreams that exploited vulnerable individuals. They were released the same day.

Kick, meanwhile, says it is “urgently reviewing” the situation. A spokesperson added that the platform’s guidelines are “designed to protect creators” and that the site is “committed to upholding these standards.”

Adin Ross, one of Kick’s most prominent streamers, demanded that there be “severe consequences” for Pormanove’s death.

Ross also said that he had contacted rapper Drake about the incident and the two had agreed to pay for Pormanove’s funeral costs.

“This won’t bring his life back, but it’s the least we can do. Prayers go out to Jean’s family,” Ross said.

Gemini Files Complaint Against CFTC, Alleges 7-Year ‘Lawfare’ Campaign

by admin June 18, 2025

In brief

  • Gemini has accused the CFTC of waging a seven-year “lawfare” campaign driven by career ambitions, not consumer protection.
  • The complaint claims CFTC lawyers relied on false whistleblower claims from a former employee later found to have committed fraud.
  • Gemini argues no market harm occurred and criticizes the agency’s continued pursuit despite evidence discrediting its key witness.

Crypto exchange Gemini has filed a complaint against the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, accusing the agency’s enforcement division of waging a vindictive seven-year “lawfare” campaign that prioritized career advancement over consumer protection and wasted millions in taxpayer dollars.

Gemini alleged that enforcement lawyers “selectively and unfairly weaponized” federal law to bring “dubious false statements charges” against the exchange founded by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, in a 13-page letter filed June 13 to CFTC Inspector General Christopher Skinner.

“The DOE Staff was not motivated by a principled application of the law or desire to protect the commodities markets,” Gemini’s lawyers wrote. “Rather, these lawyers were driven by a selfish desire to advance their careers by misusing their offices to obtain a high-profile ‘win’ against Gemini Trust.”

The company alleges the entire investigation stemmed from a “lie-riddled whistleblower submission by a discredited former employee” seeking revenge after being fired.

Gemini’s grievance stems from a 2022 CFTC lawsuit that accused Gemini of making “material false or misleading statements” to regulators in 2017 about whether its Bitcoin auction pricing mechanism was susceptible to manipulation.

Those statements were critical because they helped support Cboe’s launch of the first-ever Bitcoin futures contract, which used Gemini’s auction prices to determine settlement values.

Gemini ultimately paid a $5 million fine in January to settle the case without admitting wrongdoing.

Where it began

The origins date back to 2017, when former Gemini Chief Operating Officer Benjamin Small filed a whistleblower report, claiming the exchange had made false statements about Bitcoin futures contracts.

However, Gemini says Small was actually fired for helping facilitate a $7.45 million rebate fraud scheme and then embarked on what he called a campaign to “destroy” the company.

The exchange points to a 2022 arbitrator ruling that found Small “fraudulently procured his employment,” “lied repeatedly,” and made false statements in his whistleblower submission.

Despite this, CFTC enforcement continued pursuing Gemini while taking no action against Small, who may now receive a $1.5 million whistleblower award.

The complaint notes that lead prosecutor Andrew Rodgers left the CFTC shortly after the settlement to join a private law firm, where his biography now touts the Gemini case as one of “the agency’s most high-profile matters.”

As Acting CFTC Chair Caroline Pham has publicly criticized the enforcement division’s toxic culture and called for reform, Gemini said it’s encouraged by these efforts. Still, it warns that fixing the division will require “serious introspection and long-term commitment.”

The complaint comes as Gemini pursues ambitious expansion plans, recently announcing plans to go public and reportedly nearing approval for a Malta license that would enable pan-European operations under new EU crypto regulations.

True crime fans have one complaint about new JCS doc Amber’s Afternoon

by admin June 5, 2025

JCS, aka Jim Can’t Swim, really is spoiling us, with two new videos within the space of just over two months. However, followers of the true crime YouTuber have raised a familiar complaint with their latest mini-doc, Amber’s Afternoon.

While streaming services drop a wide range of new true crime documentaries each and every month, YouTube has become a go-to source for fans of the genre.

That Chapter, Rotten Mango, Explore With Us, and Law & Crime Network are just a few of the big names dropping mini-docs on the platform, benefiting from the lack of restrictions compared to mainstream networks.

But JCS is on another level. Considered the pioneer of YouTube’s modern true crime style, their videos rack up millions of views, yet the creator remains notoriously elusive, rarely posting more than once or twice a year – until now.

JCS faces AI backlash for Amber’s Afternoon

On June 4, 2025 – two months after his Husband Tries To Act doc – JCS has released Amber’s Afternoon. However, fans of their content have accused the creator of using artificial intelligence (AI).

This is hardly the first time JCS has faced these allegations. In December 2024, the account added the mini-doc Newlyweds Tell On Each Other, but it was later removed after viewers accused them of replacing narrator, YouTuber Kizzume, with AI.

Due to the long gaps between posts, the change in tone, and JCS’ flip-flopping between YouTube and Patreon, there were also rumors about burnout, legal issues, and that the channel had been sold or abandoned.

In April, the YouTuber shared an apology alongside Husband Tries To Act, writing, “Sorry for letting you guys down… The channel wasn’t sold, and we haven’t quit. We just been dealing with some outside YouTube-related stuff.”

They went on to say they’ll make it up to the fans by sharing “consistent content, if you’re willing to give us a second chance.”

It appears they’ve made good on this promise with the fast turnaround of Amber’s Afternoon, which centers on the interrogation of attempted murderer Amber Rose Rizwan, contextualizing it with a series of other cases.

But while it’s another success story for the channel, earning nearly 900k views in 15 hours, the new documentary is facing fresh allegations regarding AI and quality.

Taking to Reddit, one wrote, “Couldn’t sit through this one and closed it after 20 minutes. It’s another JCS video where it’s mostly just interrogation footage with little to no commentary, meaningful or otherwise.

“Even worse, they bring in unrelated cases, again with little to no commentary, just to pad the runtime. Previously, they’d play some relevant footage, explain what interrogation techniques the investigators are using, point out the suspect’s subtle shifts in behavior, and wrap up the video neatly.

“It’s nice they got rid of the AI slop, but whoever’s making the script has lost the sauce on what made the original videos good.”

However, another replied, “I’m not convinced AI is completely out of the picture. The way this is written feels like someone fed a script through it, then tried what they could to redeem it but just gave up part way through and slapped the video together.”

Elsewhere, one commented, “Is it just me, or is the interrogation video edited/saturated? Maybe the last few videos have left an uneasy taste in my mouth. I loved JCS content, but I’m exactly one minute in, and I’m not feeling optimistic?

Article continues after ad

“Just off the bat, I’m automatically feeling like AI was involved. Edit to add: I’m 20 minutes in, this feels disjointed and the narrative is sloppy. Does anyone feel differently, is this just not clicking with me?

“I get not every video will have the editing, commentary, style etc of Dalia Dippolito or the Jon Koppenhaver case, but this feels… ?”

Another agreed, “Honestly, I was feeling the same way. I’m not finished with the video just yet. So it may all come together. But so far, everything just feels… disjointed. We’re jumping around so much for seemingly no purpose (so far).”

What Kizzume said about AI

YouTube: Kizzume

For the most part, viewers are just happy to be receiving more JCS content, with one writing, “It’s certainly an interesting video. It’s a montage of how different people react to the same type of situation.

Article continues after ad

“Each of the reactions is unique and memorable. I hope we get more content in the future. The only negative is that I wish they had more commentary on WHY each of them had that type of response.

Article continues after ad

“I feel that was something more common in the earlier videos. Still, far better than no new content, well worth a watch.”

Although JCS hasn’t publicly comment on the use of AI in the new video, narrator Kizzume did clear up any confusion earlier this year.

“Look, there are people saying things that are just incorrect about JCS and myself. JCS got my permission first to use AI regarding my voice, and I am also being compensated word for word like I normally would,” he wrote.

“They’re simply not screwing me over. And their future uploads should have my actual narration on them.”

Kizzume went on to say, “The AI was used to save time. They’ve been gone for two years due to personal struggles and wanted to get the videos out quick. But it is understood now that it was a mistake and they will take more time to create videos with my authentic voice.”

SAG-AFTRA Files Unfair Labor Practice Complaint Against Epic Games Due To A.I. Darth Vader

by admin May 19, 2025

Last week, Epic Games added a Darth Vader NPC to its battle royale game, Fortnite, as an AI-voiced character. Trained on the voice of James Earl Jones, who is the voice of Vader in the Star Wars movies and elsewhere, it didn’t take long for players to get this NPC Vader to say curse words and slurs, as reported by PC Gamer. Now, three days later, SAG-AFTRA has filed an unfair labor practice complaint with the National Labor Relations Board against Epic-owned signatory company, Llama Productions.

However, it’s not because Fortnite is using AI to give Vader a voice per se. According to the complaint filed today, SAG-AFTRA claims Epic replaced bargained union voice work with this AI without notice, thereby breaking terms and conditions supposedly agreed on by both SAG-AFTRA and Epic.

“Within the past six months, the Employer, by its agents and representatives, failed and refused to bargain in good faith with the union by making unilateral changes to terms and conditions of employment, without providing notice to the union or the opportunity to bargain, by utilizing AI-generated voices to replace bargaining unit work on the Interactive Program Fortnite,” the complaint against Llama Productions reads.

Disney

In a statement released following this filing, SAG-AFTRA says, “We celebrate the right of our members and their estates to control the use of their digital replicas and welcome the use of new technologies to allow new generations to share in the enjoyment of these legacies and renowned roles. However, we must protect our right to bargain terms and conditions around uses of voice that replace the work of our members, including those who previously did the work of matching Darth Vader’s iconic rhythm and tone in video games.”

The company says Llama Productions chose to replace human performers’ work with AI technology but did so “without providing any notice of their intent to do this and without bargaining with us over appropriate terms.” As such, SAG-AFTRA has filed an unfair labor practice complaint against the company with the NLRB.

Jones’ family is aware that an AI voice trained on him was added to Fortnite, as they released a statement confirming they collaborated with Epic to make this happen. They write, “James Earl felt that the voice of Darth Vader was inseparable from the story of Star Wars, and he always wanted fans of all ages to continue to experience it. We hope that this collaboration with Fortnite will allow both longtime fans of Darth Vader and newer generations to share in the excitement of this iconic character.”

Game Informer contacted Epic Games for comment and will update this story if it hears back.
