4,600,000 Burned ETH Coming Back? Ethereum Community Foundation Announces BETH

by admin August 31, 2025

  • Details on new token
  • Why it’s questionable

The Ethereum community is agitated by a startling announcement: The Ethereum Community Foundation, which is not the same as the official Ethereum Foundation, has announced the release of BETH, a new token that will be used to represent ETH that has already been burned.

Details on new token

As stated by the group, BETH is a proof-of-burn token, meaning that each unit represents an equivalent quantity of ETH that has been verified to have been taken out of circulation, in accordance with EIP-1559 and other burn mechanisms. Accordingly, the 40.6 million ETH that have been burned since the London upgrade could now be reissued as BETH.

Ethereum Community Foundation announced the tokenization of burned ETH as BETH, creating a new proof-of-burn token. Each BETH represents ETH verified as removed from circulation, enabling transparent and auditable burn records. Ethereum co-founder and ConsenSys CEO Joseph Lubin…

— Wu Blockchain (@WuBlockchain) August 31, 2025

The goal is to offer a new class of tokens that recognizes the destruction of supply, while simultaneously producing an open, auditable ledger of burned coins. Although specifics are still unknown, the announcement also alluded to the launch of related tokens BBETH and BBBETH. ETH burning will become a highly profitable activity, according to Joseph Lubin, co-founder of Ethereum and CEO of ConsenSys, and BETH is a crucial step in formalizing that process.

Why it’s questionable

Although the idea has created excitement, there are also important concerns. The very idea behind burning coins, to permanently reduce supply, is undermined when they are tokenized. The narrative of ETH scarcity may wane if the community starts to view BETH as a complementary asset with speculative potential.

Furthermore, BETH’s value does not increase simply because it is associated with burned ETH. BETH is not inherently involved in Ethereum’s consensus staking or gas fee structure in contrast to ETH itself. It’s basically a derivative product with unknown long-term utility.

You Might Also Like

Ethereum Community Foundation is not the Ethereum Foundation, as stated in the announcement. Because it could affect BETH’s acceptance and legitimacy, this distinction is crucial. Without well-defined governance, practicality and consumer demand, BETH runs the risk of becoming more of an oddity than a game-changing invention.

Although tokenizing burned assets can bring transparency, it also raises paradoxes: Does representing destroyed value add value or simply lessen the act of burning itself? Until these issues are resolved, BETH should be used cautiously.

Eric Barone smiling and talking about Stardew Valley

Bless him, Eric Barone cannot stop updating Stardew Valley, has announced version 1.7 is coming

by admin August 31, 2025

“I’m committed to not working on Stardew Valley until I’m done with Haunted Chocolatier,” Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone told us earlier this year. And that commitment lasted all of four months, I guess.

At one of the recent Stardew Valley Symphony of Seasons live concerts, Barone addressed the audience to say that after the 1.6 update he wasn’t sure if he’d ever do another, but more recently he’d changed his mind. “I wanted to share something with you tonight, it’s kind of a secret,” he continued. “There’s going to be another update.”

It was not a secret for long, and Barone confirmed on Twitter that 1.7 is definitely coming. “Okay, I revealed this at the concert last night and now the cat’s out of the bag,” he wrote, “so I will confirm for everyone: There will be a Stardew Valley 1.7 update. No release date, no estimate. But it’s happening”.

Related articles

Of course Haunted Chocolatier is still happening too, though. In the replies, Barone commented, “My plan is that this will not hinder Haunted Chocolatier development”.

We don’t know a huge amount about Barone’s next game, but we do know that Haunted Chocolatier will include the obvious chocolate-making and shop-simming, as well as archery, boss fights, books, and a larger world than Stardew Valley. And of course, there will be fishing. If Stardew Valley is anything to go by, it’ll probably be well-supported after release as well.

The cast of Borderlands 4 prepares to grind.

Borderlands 4 Reveals Pearls Are Coming Back In Jam-Packed Roadmap

by admin August 30, 2025

Just a couple weeks before launch, Borderlands 4 has announced its post-launch roadmap for free updates and paid DLC throughout the next six months and it’s a lot. But one of the smaller details fans were surprised to see is the return of Pearlescent weapons and shields from Borderlands 2.

The rundown of Borderlands 4‘s end-game arrived alongside a developer panel at PAX West walking fans through how the XP-based loot grind will work this time around. The game’s first paid bounty pack arrives in the fall with new missions, a new boss fight, and a slew of Legendary gear and fresh cosmetics. There will also be Vault Cards that let players grind to unlock extra rewards, including gear that can keep being re-rolled until players find the version that fits their build.

Gearbox Entertainment

But the big update is Borderlands 4’s first paid Story Pack coming in early 2026. It’ll feature a new Vault Hunter, a mini-story campaign, new area to explore, and another trove of collectibles. It’s a cosmic-horror-themed expansion based around Mad Ellie, a Pandoran mechanic who happens to be Moxxi’s daughter. Some other past characters will be returning as well, with a second Story Pack following later in the year.

Borderlands 2‘s Pearlescent drops are back

There are plenty of free updates sprinkled in between each DLC, but the biggest will arrive alongside Bounty Pack 2 in early 2026. It adds the Pearlescent rarity to the game, something fans have been begging to be brought back from Borderlands 2 after it was dropped for Borderlands 3.

These drops are essentially like ultra-rare drops with unique gimmicks. When they arrived in Borderlands 2 they didn’t make or break builds. There were more like Shinies from Pokémon than Diablo’s Uniques, sought after as prizes rather than the deadliest tools in the game. Borderlands 4 might change that this time around, however. “Pearlescent gear drops will be incredibly difficult to find, but their power level will match their coveted rarity,” writes Gearbox.

Where are Borderlands 3‘s Takedowns?

A returning feature the studio hasn’t mentioned yet are Takedowns. These free updates for Borderlands 3 were raid boss-adjacent end-game modes that were designed to push squads of players to the breaking point with their difficulty. Gearbox hasn’t mentioned them by name yet, thought it has mentioned Invincible Bosses coming in a future free update for Borderlands 4.

“Think of them as bosses on steroids: new unique mechanics, massive health pools (not literally invincible, but close to it), extremely lethal attack damage, and other new modifiers that can make quick work of any unprepared Vault Hunters,” the new announcement reads. The first of these will drop before the end of 2025. Weekly big encore boss fights, wildcard missions, and Maurice’s Black Market Machine are all coming after launch as well.

If Borderlands 4‘s base campaign can deliver a better story than Borderlands 3 and the promised variety, variability, and build-crafting depth of the new Vault Hunters, the post-launch roadmap definitely looks like it will be showering players with all of the content they’ll want in the end-game. Those are two big ifs. But with Destiny 2 currently spiraling and Diablo 4 still awaiting its next big expansion, I’m as primed for some fresh, smooth-brained loot chasing as I’ll ever be.

Mortal Kombat 2 No Longer Coming Out In Time For Easy Halloween Costumes

by admin August 30, 2025

Mortal Kombat 2 was set to hit theaters on October 24, just a week before Halloween. It seemed like good timing for a hyper-violent video game classic about warriors fighting horrors from other dimensions. Apparently Warner Bros. disagreed. The studio has now delayed the sequel by nearly seven months because it thinks the corny fist-fest can make more money in the spring.

That’s according to Deadline, which reported the news late on Friday before the Labor Day holiday weekend. It claims “research screenings have been strong” and that Warner Bros. didn’t want to bury its latest video game adaptation in a “crowded late October frame” between Springsteen Deliver Me From Nowhere and Regretting You.

So instead, Mortal Kombat 2 will now come out on May 15, 2026. Avengers: Doomsday was originally set to open that month but was pushed back to December of next year. The only real competition will be The Mandalorian and Grogu which arrives at the end of next May. So even if Mortal Kombat 2 ends up having a surprisingly long tail, it’ll probably get kicked out of most theaters by Star Wars.

The sequel brings in The Boys‘ Karl Urban as the shade-wearing, split-kicking Johnny Cage and its July trailer looked decent. If it has the budget to double-down on some of the big spectacle fight sequences the 2021 reboot was missing it could be fun. Though I still think its cheesy gore-fest sensibility was a great fit for Halloween. I don’t usually like slasher movies but I’ll make an exception if Scorpion’s the one doing the impaling.

A Star Trek: Voyager survival strategy game (yes, Voyager) is coming that lets you ‘what if?’ the series

by admin August 30, 2025

Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown | Announcement Teaser – YouTube

Watch On

You probably couldn’t have predicted this one. Of all the things Star Trek that could be a game, it’s 24-years-gone series Star Trek: Voyager that’s getting the treatment with a game that’ll put you in charge of the lost ship’s journey home.

Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown is described as a “a story-driven survival strategy game.” Your job is to manage the ship, its resources, and its path through the far-off Delta Quadrant on a long trip back to home space.

You’ll choose which crew members do what tasks based on their special abilities and unique skills, find resources to repair the damaged Voyager, choose where the ship will travel, and research technologies that can strengthen your ship and boost chances of survival.

“Did you ever wonder what would have happened had Captain Janeway decided differently? If an important crew member had followed a different path? Or what the outcome would have been had the crew of the U.S.S. Voyager embraced Borg technology to increase their chances of survival?,” says Across the Unknown’s Steam page.

That emphasis on “What If?” stories really makes this an interesting one. Will it rerun a ton of familiar plot beats from the series that fans already know, but let you change how things went by making different choices? That seems to be the implication.

“The game features rogue-like elements,” say the developers, “so in each run you will encounter different situations and even iconic characters might meet an early end if you don’t react accordingly.”

You can find Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown on Steam, where it’s “coming soon.”

Battlefield 6 is getting persistent servers, and two vehicle-heavy maps are coming in the next Labs playtest

by admin August 30, 2025

Battlefield 6’s open beta may be over, Battlefield 2042 might also have been transformed into Battlefield 6, but there must be more battles in the fields of six, so sign-ups for another round of Labs testing are now open. Two fresh maps with plenty of room for vehicle-based fisticuffs will be on offer, as well as a chance to check out the server browser that may well be chock full of 24/7 scraps once the final game launches.

EA have wheeled out all of this info in two separate blog posts, which follow neatly on from them running down all of their learnings from the open beta.

First of all, the two maps. Operation Firestorm and Mirak Valley are set to debut, and if you were among the many miffed at the open beta largely sticking to smaller maps, you’ll be glad to hear that they facilitate larger scraps with “a diverse range of vehicles, from quad bikes to tanks and aircraft”.

As you might expect, their inclusion’s part of EA working to ensure “balancing occurs across different-sized environments” following the open beta. “Improvements to weapons, large-scale vehicular combat, gadget balancing, and more” are all on the publisher’s radar to monitor and tweak. This round of testing’ll also be used to lock in “the official setting for Hardcore mode”, so put on your best killing pants.

If you hop into this latest Labs test, you’ll also get your first chance to muck around with a work-in-progress version of Battlefield 6’s server browser. Its features will be “intentionally limited” so EA can focus on making sure it’s stable and useable at a basic level. Basically, making sure folks can set up a server via a shortcode, fill out its description and tags, then host away trouble-free as other players join and leave.

Those who’ve grown up jumping into 24/7 servers that serve you one map on repeat and don’t disappear when everyone goes to bed at the end of the first day will be glad to know EA have confirmed custom servers will be persistent. It won’t cost you any extra over the base price of the FPS either, which is a nice bit of non-money-grabbing from EA, and should mean Battlefield 6 has less trouble establishing a strong sense of community out of the gate.

If you’ve not taken part in any Battlefield 6 Labs tests to this point, you can head here to sign up. Though, there’s no guarantee you’ll be granted access either right away or at all, as the spots are much more limted than the open beta.

Genshin Impact 6.0 isn’t actually called that, will instead be known as “Version Luna 1”, and is coming in early September

by admin August 29, 2025

We’ve been waiting for this one! After a few teasers, including as recently as gamescom – featuring a very hot anime man, MiHoYo has finally lifted the veil off the major upcoming Genshin Impact chapter.

This is what you may have been expecting would be called version 6.0. Its official name was revealed to be Version Luna 1, which could signal a change in what these will be called going forward.

Song of the Welkin Moon: Segue is the name of this particular episode, and it’s only the first part of what the developer says will be a year-long Song of the Welkin Moon saga.

Version Luna 1, or Song of the Welkin Moon: Segue, will arrive in Genshin Impact globally on September 10. If you’ve been following the action RPG with any regularity, you’ll no doubt be aware that it introduces the new Nod-Krai region.

After you install the update, you’ll be able to sail north towards the new region – provided you’ve completed Mondstadt’s main story and and reached AR 28. Nod-Krai is made up of three islands. This kicks off the new Archon Quests, where you’re going to accompany Lauma of the Frostmoon Scions and learn more about the conflict with the Fatui. The same quest can be started after finishing Liyue’s storyline.

Hot boy Flins is the second ally in this story, who, with your help, may resist the Wild Hunt. There’s a major story thread about a plot to claim the moon’s power (!) by the Fatui, and that’s where Fatui Harbinger, Marionette, comes in. There’s another Harbinger in this story, too, one who’s retreated to her birthplace in Nod-Krai. She’s referred to as The Damselette, and she’s worshiped as the Moon Maiden. And you do want to meet her, because you may get a buff or two to help you out.

Watch on YouTube

Nod-Krai is home to an elemental force called Kuuvahki, which you can draw upon. It can sometimes take the firm of the Kuuhenki, an elemental lifeform. Kuuvahki, of course, can be used in combat, with the big new special being Lunar Reactions.

Three new companions, who hail from the same region, will join the roster. Lauma is a 5-Star Moonchanter and Catalyst wielder. She’s the first to utilise the new Lunar-Bloom reaction, which grants her her Verdant Dew that she uses to boost the team’s Bloom damage.

The recently-teased Flins is another 5-Star companion. A Polearm wielder, Flins fires Lunar-Charged strikes that can either be delivered in a massive single attack, or turn into a storm of smaller spear attacks. If you bring him along with you as you explore, he may lead you to some discoveries, thanks to his ability to hear the whispers of the Wild Hunt

The third and final new addition is Aino, a 4-Star Hydro Claymore wielder. Aino is something of a genius, with her mechanical contraptions doing a lot of the heavy lifting. The list includes a duck-shaped device she calls Knuckle Duckle, which is just delightful. Aino will join your team for free if you progress the new Archon Quests in Nod-Krai.

It doess look pretty cool! | Image credit: MiHoYo.

Did we mention that this is a stacked update? Meeting Points is one of the new features arriving with Version Luna 1. MiHoYo says it will let you “step into the daily lives” of your companions, which sort of sounds like royalty missions from Mass Effect and other RPGs.

Lauma will be available immediately upon the update’s release, who will arrive with the rerun of Nahida in the Event Wishes. The update’s second half is what’s going to add Flins, Aino, and bring back Yelan.

Elsewhere in this episde, you can look forward to a few big tweaks to Adventure EXP, which can now be earned from more sources. MiHoYo is adding materials to the battle pass rewards, too. It will also now be possible to preview the locked affix of any Artifact in advance. If you have too many parties already, you’ll be happy to learn that you can save more team presets. One of the biggest additions is a new item – Masterless Stella Fortuna – which lets you use any extra 5-Star Stella Fortuna you might have acquired over the years — available retroactively from when you opened your account! — to push a character beyond the cap and up to level 100.

If you log in when the update arrives, you’ll find a host of freebies waiting for you, such as a free 5-Star character of your choice (from the Standard Wish Pool), Primogems, and more.

Watch on YouTube

HoYoverse also took this opportunity to reveal more details about Miliastra Wonderland, which brings UGC gameplay elements into Genshin Impact. Creators can create stages using the Miliastra Sandbox editor for all players to enjoy.

You can pull from the game’s many existing assets to create your content. We’ll have to wait until Version Luna 2 before we can get our hands on it, but the trailer above shows off some of what’s possible.

Coffee convos, demonic detectives, and cow life simming are part of a pro-Palestine charity bundle coming to Itch.io

by admin August 28, 2025

A bundle of games aiming to raise money to aid the United Nations’ Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in their efforts to help Palestinian refugees is set to go on sale via Itch.io next week. Just over 380 games are part of it, including the likes of Coffee Talk, Lucifer Within Us, and a cow life simulator that features an alligator who’s really into arson.

Organised by Junch and the South East Asian Games for Good initiative, the bundle’s dubbed Play for Peace – Games for Palestine. It’s taken over 10 months to come together. The result’s a 382-game strong bundle that includes a huge variety of creations that contain not a whiff of AI or NFTs.

“The people of Palestine continue to be subjected to hostility, destruction of homes, critical infrastructure, and devastasting loss of lives,” reads the Play for Peace bundle’s freshly-published Itch listing. “We, as a games community, will bring together our incredible games from across the world, for a charity bundle with proceeds that go directly to Palestine aid and relief.

“We are partnering with UNRWA USA, who will receive the funds and grant them to UNRWA (UN agency) in support of direct humanitarian aid in Palestine. Together, the game dev community and UNRWA USA will raise awareness on the situation in Gaza, spotlight our communities, and the devs participating in this charity drive.”

In addition to the games I mentioned in the intro – the cow life sim’s definitely worth checking out – the bundle includes everything from lesbian devil-hunting action, courtesy of fittingly-named boss rusher Bossgame, to tabletop adventures like Stirring the Hornet’s Nest at Het Thamsya. A couple of others that’ve caught me eye are Street Cleaning Day: Rat’s Revenge, a wave-shooter about a rodent fending off soapy bubbles, and I Get This Call Every Day.

The latter’s a point-and-click simulation of its creator’s experience working in a call centre, featuring “terrible art [which] conveys a terrible work environment” and the choice of whether to “lose politely or lose spectacularly”.

We’re excited to announce the Games for Palestine charity page is now LIVE on Itch.

Over 300+ games with proceeds going to UNRWA USA in support of Gaza relief. Thank you to everyone for your support. The bundle launches on Sept 2nd 9am PST.

If that brutal reality isn’t for you, there’s also Fit For a King, a Henry VIII simulator that offers the chance to marry everything, execute everything, and/or spend it all. “While Fit For A King could have been full of lazy, bargain bin Blackadder jokes, it’s got a wonderfully dadaist edge to its humour instead, and an indefinable atmosphere I could only call early 2000s web game energy,” former RPSer Nate Crowley wrote of that one. Or, there’s Virtua Blinds, which looks like it could be the greatest thing I’ve never played.

As the bundle’s curators wrote: “All of it represents the creative expression of artists and developers who want to help raise money through their art for one of the most important causes of our time – freedom and the ending of genocide in Palestine.” The Play for Peace – Games for Palestine bundle will be on sale from 5PM BST/12PM ET/9AMPT/6PM CEST on September 2nd, and will cost $8.

US Users Coming Back to Binance? Not So Fast

by admin August 28, 2025

  • Are Americans actually coming back to Binance?
  • Binance banning US users

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has issued a staff advisory that aims to clarify how foreign boards of trade (FBOTs) can interact with US-based clients in a compliant manner.

For several years, a lot of American projects had been forced to move offshore due to a rather hostile regulatory environment. Now, the CFTC wants to welcome them back under a proper regulatory framework.

Acting Chair Caroline Pham, who is reportedly on track to join cryptocurrency platform Moonpay, is framing this as the process of onshoring cryptocurrency activity.

Foreign exchanges could potentially start serving US customers without setting up local entities if they are licensed under a compatible regulatory regime.

Are Americans actually coming back to Binance?

Several prominent social media accounts, as well as some media outlets, have started circulating oversimplified and misleading headlines about such massive cryptocurrency trading platforms as Binance and OKX being able to welcome US traders.

You Might Also Like

However, the CFTC advisory does not mean that this will necessarily be the case since there are still strict compliance requirements for foreign boards of trade.

As some have noted, the main takeaway here is that the CFTC wants to give American cryptocurrency builders a way back to US soil since the advisory is specifically targeted at them.

This headline is misleading. The actual CFTC press release doesn’t say “Binance” or “offshore crypto exchanges” once.

In fact, the takeaway is that the CFTC wants to give Americans that went offshore to build crypto products a way back to US soil.

Hyperliquid https://t.co/FE0bbMyYF0 pic.twitter.com/xtyajL9Jau

— steven.hl (@stevenyuntcap) August 28, 2025

“…American companies that were forced to set up shop in foreign jurisdictions to facilitate crypto asset trading now have a path back to U.S. markets,” the staff advisory said.

Hence, it is pretty clear that offshore exchanges will not be just granted blanket access.

Binance banning US users

Binance started banning US users around June 2019 due to heightened regulatory scrutiny.

The top exchange has since faced numerous accusations of trying to circumvent such restrictions.

In fact, the CFTC sued the trading giant in 2023, accusing it of luring in US customers.

Binance ended up settling with the CFTC for nearly $3 billion.

Elden Ring Nightreign’s Deep Of Night Is An Endless “High-Difficulty Expedition Mode” Coming Next Month

by admin August 28, 2025

Since launching in May, Elden Ring Nightreign, the multiplayer roguelike spinoff of Elden Ring, has continued to receive updates introducing new bosses and more. Now, developer From Software has announced the game’s biggest update yet – Deep of Night – will go live next month on Thursday, September 11.

Deep of Night is a “high-difficulty” Expedition challenge mode “designed for seasoned players who have navigated through the Night many times,” the studio writes in a press release, suggesting this already-difficult game is going to get a lot harder soon. In Deep of Night, the enemies are stronger than usual. Plus, you cannot specify the target Nightlord for the Expedition, meaning the final boss of the run will be random.

Alongside this, From Software says ongoing terrain changes will not be reflected, and that special items such as “Depth Relics,” which are exclusive to Deep of Night, and weapons with multiple additional but also detrimental effects, will appear on runs. Furthermore, the difficulty increases the deeper you descend, and “the ratings will fluctuate based on wins and losses, affecting the depth.”

From Software says players should aim to surpass Depth 3, and notes that Depth 4 to Depth 5 will “feature an endless battle for those seeking even greater thrills,” suggesting that Deep of Night can turn into an endless-run mode.

The Deep of Night update for Elden Ring Nightreign goes live on Thursday, September 11.

In the meantime, read Game Informer’s Elden Ring Nightreign review.
