BioShock 4 studio Cloud Chamber lay off staff, as ex-Diablo lead Rod Fergusson comes aboard

by admin August 20, 2025

2K have laid off an unspecified number of staff at Cloud Chamber, amid efforts to rework BioShock 4. These cuts come at the same time former Diablo lead Rod Fergusson joins as Cloud Chamber’s new studio head, taking up the position recently vacated by Kelley Gilmore.

A report from Bloomberg earlier this month revealed that the game had failed an internal progress check. Gilmore and creative director Hogarth de la Plante reportedly moved into different jobs as part of a resulting leadership shakeup. Despite all of this, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has insisted, amid chatting some nonsense about great being the new great, that the game will still make it to release.

That brings us to yesterday, when Bloomberg’s Jason Schrier reported that Cloud Chamber were letting folks go as they announced Fergusson’s impending arrival. IGN report that 2K haven’t said how many employees have been affected by the cuts, while publishing part of an email to staff from 2K president David Ismailer that aims to explain the reasoning behind them.

“Work on the next BioShock game has been underway for several years,” it reads. “While we’re excited about the foundational gameplay elements of the project, we’ve made the decision with studio leadership to rework certain aspects that are core to a BioShock game, and in doing so are reducing the size of the development team to focus on this work and give the game more time in development.”

BREAKING: BioShock 4 developer Cloud Chamber is laying off an unspecified number of staff.

Also, former Diablo boss Rod Fergusson is taking over as Cloud Chamber’s new studio head. More than a decade ago, he joined the troubled BioShock Infinite and helped salvage that game’s production.

The email reportedly concluded with Ismailer describing the multiple people losing their livelihoods and the hiring of one guy as making for a “day of mixed emotions”, before going full exec rah-rah speech about the state of BioShock. “These changes are rooted in 2K’s firm confidence in BioShock as one of the most beloved franchises, and our commitment to deliver the best game in franchise history,” he declared.

I’ve reached out to 2K for comment.

As for what the future looks like for BioShock 4, it’s clear why 2K have gone for ex-Blizzard man Fergusson. The veteran developer was previously brought in at Irrational games to help get 2013’s BioShock Infinite out of the door, having done the same for the likes of Gears of War.

Best of luck to the staff Cloud Chamber have let go.

Microsoft hints at “more affordable” version of Xbox Cloud Gaming

by admin August 20, 2025

Microsoft has hinted at a “more affordable” version of its Xbox Cloud Gaming service.

Speaking on an episode of the Official Xbox Podcast (via The Verge), Xbox vice president of gaming devices and ecosystem Jason Ronald said the firm wants to make the service “more accessible to players”.

“One of the things we see is there’s a lot of players who use Game Pass Ultimate to access the cloud, whether that’s the primary way they play, or an additional way to play on the go,” said Ronald.

“I think for us, this really opens up the opportunity to make it much more affordable, and make it more accessible to players. Whether that’s going into new regions, or new ways to actually access the [Xbox] cloud.”

Ronald also highlighted Xbox’s multi-year strategic partnership with AMD, which was announced last month. He spoke about how the collaboration will focus on next-gen consoles, handhelds, PC, and cloud infrastructure.

“We’re deeply focused on hardware and silicon innovation and how we can push the boundaries beyond the current generation of devices,” Ronald noted (via PureXbox).

“Together with AMD, we’re designing dedicated silicon and hardware to enable the next generation of gaming experiences, and so that means we’re investing deeply in the next generation of rendering technologies.”

He added: “We’re also investing in dedicated silicon to enable the next generation of AI capabilities that will be transformative in how you actually experience your gameplay. It also provides a new surface that developers can take advantage of and deliver new kinds of experiences that they’ve never been able to deliver before.”

The Best Cooling Sheets (2025): Brooklinen, Slumber Cloud, Buffy

by admin August 19, 2025

There’s a lot of terminology thrown around in the world of cooling sheets and cooling mattresses. Temperature regulating! Airflow! Moisture wicking! Phase-change material! Most of the time, these features come back to how breathable the sheets are. Breathability means moisture can better evaporate, and “temperature-regulating” usually means the sheets are breathable enough to release the heat and moisture from your body.

What makes sheets breathable? Cotton, flax linen, and bamboo have great breathability, but not all sheets are made equally, so material alone isn’t a guarantee. Weave, as in percale’s one-over-one threads versus sateen’s three-over-one, and weight (including thread count) of the bedding comes into play. Higher thread counts are less breathable, and tighter weaves will be less breathable too. The yarn within the fabric is also important, as well as how twisted it is—a higher twist makes for a smoother, cooler feel to the fabric, while a loose twist isn’t as smooth and can trap heat.

Some companies treat sheets with something called phase-change materials, or PCMs, which are substances that absorb and release energy to either heat or cool an area. “PCMs create a microclimate,” says Karen Leonas, a professor of textile sciences at the Wilson College of Textiles at North Carolina State University. Excess body heat is absorbed by these materials and then released to the body when it’s cool.

These treatments can raise the price of cooling sheets, but they’re not super popular yet, and it’s hard to determine how well incorporated it is into the fabric. “PCMs go through thermal cyclic testing and have shown to last a long time,” Leonas says. “If this is a surface treatment, there is the possibility that some of the microcapsules will be lost due to abrasion.” Parima Ijaz, CEO of Pure Parima, agrees and says these treatments sometimes only last up to 10 washes. There are only a handful of sheets on the market that tout their use of PCMs, and our guide focuses on breathable materials and weaves rather than these treatments. It’s worth noting that PCMs will last much longer on a foam mattress, according to Leonas. If you’re still sweating at night after switching to cooling sheets, try a cooling mattress.

Nexar One dash cam review: a 4K dash cam with interior view and constant cloud connection

by admin June 19, 2025

Why you can trust TechRadar

We spend hours testing every product or service we review, so you can be sure you’re buying the best. Find out more about how we test.

Nexar One: One-minute review

The Nexar One is a 4K dash cam that employs a clever modular design and an always-on LTE data connection to offer automatic cloud uploads with unlimited storage, wireless video transfer, and remote streaming. It can be bought with either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage, but there’s no microSD card support. Rear and internal cameras are also available.

Unlimited cloud storage and live streaming for as little as $71.90 a year feels like good value, but the One is reliant on a strong cellular signal to work properly; if you have patchy 4G at home, this might not be the dash cam for you.

Nexar One: price & availability

The Nexar One is priced from $329.95 for the 128GB model (which can hold up to 37 hours of recordings), or from $379.95 for the 256GB model (which has space for up to 78 hours). Adding the interior camera featured in this review increases those prices to $379.95 and $429.95 respectively.

Nexar’s LTE Protection Plan costs $9.99 a month or $71.90 a year. This includes the ability to live stream from the dash cam to your phone, plus unlimited cloud storage, a 24/7 parking mode, real-time GPS tracking, emergency alerts, and rear camera compatibility.

Nexar says the One will be available in the UK soon, but hadn’t announced prices at the time of review in June 2025. The cost of the LTE Protection Plan is also unknown for now, and the One is not available in Australia.

Nexar One: Design

The Nexar One is a clever piece of design, as far as dash cams go. It doesn’t have a screen, so there’s no chance of being distracted while you’re driving, and the unit itself is relatively slim, but with the LTE data module and interior camera connected, it’s quite large.

The clever bit is how the Nexar One uses magnets. Firstly, it connects to its windshield mount with a very strong magnet. You then stick the mount to your windshield with an adhesive strip, and a power cable runs from the mount to your car’s OBD2 port for a constant power supply, even when it’s parked and turned off. Power is then sent to the dash cam itself as soon as the magnets snap it into place.

(Image credit: Future / Alistair Charlton)

There are more magnets on either side of the main unit. You can remove a cover from one end to attach what Nexar calls the connectivity add-on, which is basically an LTE (4G) antenna that gives the dash cam a cellular data connection for live streaming to your phone and cloud video storage – more on that later.

Removing the cover from the other end enables you connect the optional interior camera, which sold separately but was also provided by Nexar for this review. Overall, it’s a clever design that’s been nicely executed, and I especially like how Nexar includes an OBD2 cable in the box, rather than a USB cable and a 12-volt socket adapter.

As mentioned, there’s no microSD card slot, with the One relying entirely on internal storage.

Nexar One: Performance

The setup process requires the Nexar Connect smartphone app and, for the dash cam, a decent 4G connection. Although I live in London, my street has awful cellular coverage, so it wasn’t a surprise to see the One fail to get itself online. I drove about half a mile, parked up, and the dash cam then quickly connected to Nexar’s cloud service and completed the setup process.

While video quality is the most important aspect of any dash cam, there’s more to this model than video recording. You can use either the Nexar Connect app or Nexar’s online dashboard to view every journey completed with the One installed. Your driving route is shown on a map, along with the distance and duration of your journey. It’s then easy to either view a low-resolution timelapse of a journey, or download a high-resolution portion.

(Image credit: Future / Alistair Charlton)

If you’re away from your car (and therefore not connected directly to the dash cam via Wi-Fi), you can view the mapped routes and timelapses. And, while you can request to download a high-res portion of between 30 seconds and five minutes, the download won’t happen until the next time you turn your car on. Instead, it’s best to get in your car, connect directly to the dash cam over Wi-Fi, and transfer high-res recordings to your phone.

Another feature is live streaming, where the Nexar One’s LTE connection lets you view a live feed from the dash cam on your phone. This takes about 30 seconds to start and when using LTE (instead of a direct Wi-Fi connection) you’re limited to three minutes of live viewing at a time. This is understandable, given how much data would be swallowed up by longer streams. It’s a handy way to check up on your car, and means you can view a live feed right after the dash cam detects a collision while parked, as it will automatically start recording.

Since I live in an area with patchy cellular coverage, some driving routes and timelapses failed to upload right away. This process happens after you park up, while the dash cam is powering down, but a poor data connection can stop the upload from happening. The downloads are then unavailable until the next time you turn your car on and drive to an area with better signal.

(Image credit: Future / Alistair Charlton)

If you live and mostly drive in an area with strong LTE coverage you’ll be fine, but if not – and you want to regularly use the Nexar One’s connected features – you’ll need to think twice about buying it. The Nexar One is designed to connect to a range of networks, instead of just one, so it should always hunt out the best signal. But I found it sometimes failed to connect, especially in known blackspots.

Incidents – where the dash cam detects a collision, either while parked or driving – are sorted into their own section of the app and dashboard, making them easy to find.

The app lets you pick from three video quality options, but frustratingly these use names – Basic, Standard and Premium – instead of recognizable numbers, like 1080p or 4K. Tapping on ‘Learn more’ opens Nexar’s website and explains that Basic is 720p (and 540p for the interior view), Standard is 1080p (and 720p for the interior), and Premium is 4K (plus 720p again for the interior).

Standard is the default option. These Full HD recordings look great on the phone app, but quality takes a dip when blown up onto a larger computer screen. Footage is okay, but details like the license plates of oncoming vehicles, even at just 20mph in bright daylight, are often difficult to read.

(Image credit: Future / Alistair Charlton)

Bump the Nexar One up to Premium and the 4K videos are noticeably sharper, with more legible license plates and street signs. Files are also larger, with a five-minute clip weighing in at 1.5GB from the front-facing camera and 360MB from the lower-spec interior view.

The larger size of 4K files highlights the Nexar One’s slow Wi-Fi transfer speeds. Moving those five-minute, 1.5GB and 360MB clips to my iPhone, over a direct Wi-Fi connection, took a full five minutes.

The interior camera is of a lower spec, but still provides a decent view of the driver and front-seat passenger. Since I drive a small two-seater (a Mazda Miata, or MX-5 for non-US readers), this camera manages to capture an acceptable view out of the rear windshield too. However, due to my car’s tiny front windshield, I’ve had to partially hide the Nexar One behind the mirror, which blocks some of the camera’s interior view.

If I bought the Nexar One myself, and still owned a car tight on space, I’d likely do without the interior camera. That said, if you’re a taxi or ride-share driver, having recordings of your interior (and a sign telling your passengers as much) could be useful.

Lastly, there’s a parking mode. This works when the Nexar One is connected either with the included OBD II cable, or the optional hardwiring cable that powers it from the fuse box. When a collision is detected, the camera springs into life and starts recording. These videos appear in chronological order in the app, but can only be downloaded when you next switch your car on – and so long as the camera has a good cellular connection.

(Image credit: Future / Alistair Charlton)

Parking mode, unlimited cloud storage, live streaming and other functions – including emergency alerts, GPS tracking and rear camera compatibility – are all part of a subscription plan. This is priced at $9.99 a month or $71.90 for a full year. Although the Nexar One works like any other offline dash cam without this fee, storing footage locally, not subscribing removes much of its functionality. If you don’t want to pay for a subscription, you’d be better off buying a different dash cam.

That said, I can see the value here – especially if you live in an area with solid cellular coverage. Having videos available online, through the app or any computer browser, takes away the usual dash cam pain point of having to eject the microSD card and transfer footage manually. I also like the idea of being able to check in on my car while I’m away from home, but my local cellular coverage made that tricky.

The dash cam occasionally sent phone notifications, promising more information when tapped. But doing so simply opened the app and showed me the home screen. It also sometimes told me a recording was in process (while the car was parked and switched off), then saved a five-minute journey in the Activity page of the app. Tapping on this brought up a page full of error messages, a map with no indication of where the car was, and the promise of a timelapse and high-res clip being “available shortly”.

Nexar told me it has had some issues with a recent firmware update, but after reinstalling the latest firmware I still experienced connectivity problems. The One connects to multiple phone networks, but it seems that none could provide the coverage it needed to function where I live. It worked fine elsewhere, but poor signal at home takes away a chunk of the One’s functionality.

I asked Nexar if it can be connect to home Wi-Fi for video uploads and firmware updates but, and was told that while this is on the roadmap, there’s no timeline for launch.

Should you buy the Nexar One?

Buy it if…

Don’t buy it if…

How I tested the Nexar One

  • I installed the Nexar One in my own car
  • I used the dash cam during multiple journeys over the course of a week
  • I downloaded footage, adjusted settings and experimented with the live streaming function.

I installed the Nexar One in my car and used it as my dash cam for about a week. I used it on numerous journeys, and recorded footage every time I used my car. I then downloaded (and uploaded) footage from the dash cam to check its recording quality, and used the live streaming function to see how well that worked.

Binance Launches New Bitcoin Cloud Mining Product

by admin June 17, 2025

Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the world, has now revealed a series of new Bitcoin (BTC) cloud mining products. Those willing to use the offered cloud mining service will be able to subscribe to the service on a first-come, first-served basis starting June 15, 2023, at 02:00 (UTC), through which they will be able to access hash power without having to acquire and maintain any physical mining equipment.

The announcement was made on the company’s official website. The new products will enable Binance clients to buy hashrate contracts and start getting rewards of BTC mining which will be immediately deposited in their Funding Wallets. The new cloud mining product is to commence on June 22 at 04:00 (UTC).

The program is aimed at offering a convenient way of entry into Bitcoin mining to individuals who cannot afford or have technical knowledge to establish and manage conventional mining rigs. Managing the logistical aspect of the operations, Binance reduces the cost of admission and further expands into the provision of crypto infrastructure.

The superiority of Binance is evident in the Bitcoin domain. Having more than 60,000 BTC in unrealized profit, which amounts to more than 6 billion of dollars, and a number of more than 275 million users, the exchange is an example of unprecedented size and stability.

With its 25.4% spot market share and strategic expansion, Binance has become an undeniable crypto giant, so its recent launch of BTC cloud mining is another step towards negating that unshakable power in the long term.

A Gigantic Cloud of Saharan Dust Is Barreling Toward Florida

by admin June 2, 2025

An enormous cloud of dust from the Sahara is floating westward over the Atlantic Ocean, heading straight for Florida.

The densest part of the African dust plume has already reached the Caribbean and could blow into the Sunshine State by midweek, according to the National Weather Service office in Miami. When the dust rolls in, it will likely lead to drier local weather, diminished air quality, and exceptionally vivid sunrises and sunsets, meteorologists say.

Around 1 p.m. on Monday, the NWS office in San Juan, Puerto Rico said that peak concentrations of Sahara dust were rolling into the area and were expected to arrive within the afternoon. The agency has issued multiple air quality alerts, as inhaling dust can irritate respiratory systems and worsen allergies, asthma, and other respiratory conditions.

These particles can also trap heat near the ground, and as such, NWS San Juan has issued a heat advisory that will remain in effect through Tuesday. Southeasterly winds combined with the effects of the dust cloud are expected to keep temperatures above normal in many coastal and urban areas, the agency stated.

At the end of last week, a thin veil of dust was already dispersing over Florida, NWS Miami meteorologist Ana Torres-Vazquez told Scientific American. By midweek, a thicker, denser plume will billow into the state, though meteorologists expect it will be patchier than the current conditions in the Caribbean. Some patches of dust could reach the rest of the Gulf Coast by late this week, according to The Weather Channel.

Formally known as the Saharan Air Layer, or SAL, this mass of extremely dry, dusty air forms over northern Africa each year from late spring to early fall, according to NOAA’s Atlantic Oceanographic & Meteorological Laboratory. It’s created by ripples in the lower-to-middle atmosphere—called tropical waves—that track along the southern edge of the Sahara Desert and waft massive amounts of dust up into the atmosphere, Jason Dunion, a NOAA meteorologist, explained in a 2020 interview.

Every three to five days, the SAL moves over the tropical North Atlantic Ocean in what’s known as an “outbreak.” This activity typically peaks from late June to mid-August, and during the peak period, outbreaks stretch farther west. Once or twice a summer, an SAL travels more than 5,000 miles to the Gulf Coast, blowing across states from Florida to Texas. That’s precisely what’s happening now, according to NOAA, which tracks the SAL using its GOES-16 satellite.

The arrival of this SAL happens to coincide with the start of the Atlantic hurricane season, which officially began on Sunday, June 1. The warmth, dryness, and strong winds associated with this mass of dusty air have been shown to suppress tropical cyclone formation and intensification, according to Dunion. Thus, the SAL typically prevents hurricanes from taking shape.

But despite this, meteorologists are already monitoring an area along the southeast coast for potential subtropical or tropical development. AccuWeather predicts that, over the next 10 days, dry air from the SAL will alternate with moist air over the Caribbean and off the coast of Florida.

This may cause a zone of moisture to develop from South Florida to the Bahamas and Cuba early this week, potentially bringing several inches of rain and thunderstorms to the region. While the risk of tropical development is low, heavy rain could result in minor coastal flooding, rip currents, and rough surf by mid-to-late week, AccuWeather reports.

On the bright side, Florida residents—and potentially those in other Gulf Coast states—can expect to see some especially breathtaking sunrises and sunsets this week, thanks to the SAL. That’s because high concentrations of airborne dust enhance the bright red and orange hues that result from low-angle sunlight passing through the atmosphere, according to NOAA.

The SAL could linger over the southeast for several days, though it’s unclear when the dust will begin to dissipate. Meteorologists will be watching closely to see how its presence impacts air quality, visibility, and the early days of hurricane season.

Earn $27,700 in 7 days? BTC holder reveals the secret of cloud mining’s huge profits

by admin June 1, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

In the cryptocurrency circle, wealth myths are never uncommon. Recently, a senior BTC holder claimed to have made a profit of up to $27,700 through cloud mining in just 7 days, which sparked heated discussions in the circle. What is the secret of huge profits behind this?

What is cloud mining? Why has it become a new trend?

Cloud mining is a way of cryptocurrency mining that does not require the purchase of mining machines or equipment maintenance, and can be participated in simply through the Internet. Users can obtain mining rewards for digital currencies such as Bitcoin and Dogecoin by renting the computing power provided by the cloud platform.

Advantages of cloud mining:

No technical threshold: suitable for ordinary investors, no need to know how to maintain mining machines.

Low initial investment: most platforms support free registration and give bonuses.

Stable source of income: lock computing power through long-term contracts to obtain continuous income. Stay away from the troubles of electricity bills and equipment depreciation.

Example Revealed: How to Earn $27,700 in 7 Days?

According to this BTC holder, he used a UK-regulated platform, XRP Mining, and achieved super high returns by combining the following strategies:

  1. Choosing the right platform is the key

He specifically mentioned that there are too many cloud mining platforms on the market, and it is necessary to choose a legally registered and regulated platform.

  1. Reasonable configuration of contracts

He did not blindly pursue “free income”, but purchased multiple short-term and long-term contracts on a free basis to diversify risks and increase returns.

  1. Market window period

Since it coincided with the sharp rise in Bitcoin prices, the value of BTC produced by mining doubled. He chose to cash out at the high point within a week, and finally achieved a net profit of $27,700 in 7 days.

How to Join the XRP Mining Platform

  • Visit the official website of XRP Mining. After successfully registering with one click, you can immediately receive a mining reward of $15. (You can also receive a $0.6 reward for daily sign-in)
  • Investors can choose the appropriate cloud mining package according to their budget needs. The platform provides a variety of options.
  • In terms of recharge, the platform has multi-currency compatibility and supports stable coins such as USDT – TRC 20, BTC, XRP, ETH, LTC, USDC, BNB, USDT – ERC 20, BCH, Doge, SOL, etc. After completing the platform recharge and successfully selecting the appropriate mining package, the system will automatically start mining immediately.
  • During the entire mining process, investors can view the income in real time and intuitively through the platform, so that every income is clearly visible and under control.
  • The mining income will be allocated to the account every day, and users can withdraw to their wallets at any time.

Contract Plan:

The XRP Mining platform offers a wide variety of options. It supports mining of a variety of mainstream cryptocurrencies, including BTC (Bitcoin), Doge (Dogecoin), LTC (Litecoin), etc., and can be switched freely and flexibly configured. The platform has launched a series of short-term, periodic and monthly high-yield contracts. All contracts are cloud-hosted, without hardware investment, and can guarantee daily returns.

【New User Experience Contract】:Investment amount: $100, contract period: 2 days, daily income: $5.0, maturity income: $100 + $10
【Avalon Miner A15-194T】:Investment amount: $500, contract period: 7 days, daily income: $6.25, maturity income: $500+ $43.75
【Bitcoin Miner S21 Pro】:Investment amount: $2,000, contract period: 15 days, daily income: $27, maturity income: $2,000 + $405
【Bitcoin Miner S21 XP Imm】:Investment amount: $8,800, contract period: 40 days, daily income: $133.76, maturity income: $8,800 + $5,350.4
【Avalon Air CoolingMining Box-40ft】:Investment amount: $28,000, contract period: 50 days, daily income: $490, maturity income: $28,000 + $24,500

For example:

Invest $28,000 to purchase a $28,000 [Avalon Air Cooling Mining

Box-40ft] contract with a term of 50 days and a daily yield of 1.75%.

After the purchase is successful, the user can obtain passive income every day = $28,000 × 1.75% = $490.

After 50 days, the user’s principal and income: $28,000 + $490 × 35 days = $28,000 + $24,500 = $52,500

For more contract plans, please log in to the XRP Mining official website.

You can get the profit the next day after purchasing the contract. When the account funds reach $100, you can choose to withdraw to your crypto wallet or continue to purchase other contracts.
