The 9 Marvel’s Comic Book Characters Who Deserve TV Shows

by admin June 23, 2025

Image: Marvel

At this point, just give us something. Depending on which corner of the comic book world you find yourself in, the Hulk is either the strongest Marvel character or is at least able to take on the strongest. Yet, we haven’t seen the gamma ray god do much of anything recently besides get wasted and meditate with his cousin She-Hulk in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. He’s been in the MCU in his current iteration for 13 years (sorry, Edward Norton), and Marvel hasn’t even scratched the surface of his Omega-level feats.

In the comics, this beast of a man has punched his way out of a dream realm controlled by Nightmare’s mind, lifted Thor’s Mjolnir to become the new God of Thunder, and once warped time by simply punching Red Hulk. But, honestly, there’s enough beautiful, action-packed storytelling in the historic World War Hulk comic series for six seasons and a movie. Since Mark Ruffalo believes the CGI required to do an entire live-action Hulk film would be too expensive, let’s turn it into an animated series so his boundless power won’t be constrained by Marvel’s tight pockets.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Adds SpongeBob Characters To Roster

by admin June 22, 2025

During tonight’s 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, Sega shared a new trailer for its upcoming Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. During Summer Game Fest 2025, we learned that characters from Persona, Like a Dragon, and Minecraft are joining the vast roster of characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog universe in this kart racer. In this latest trailer, Sega played to its audience and announced Nickelodeon crossover content, starting with characters, a vehicle, and a track from the SpongeBob SquarePants world.

Characters like SpongeBob and Patrick will be joining Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, Shadow, and the rest of the heroes and villains from that universe as post-launch content. Additionally, Sega teased upcoming content from the animated Avatar and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universes.

To access the Nickelodeon content, as well as crossover content with Minecraft, the Sonic Prime Netflix series, and two more yet-to-be-announced collaborations, players can purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition or pick up the Season Pass when Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds arrives on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on September 25. A Switch 2 version will be available at a later date.

‘Wall-E With a Gun’: Midjourney Generates Videos of Disney Characters Amid Massive Copyright Lawsuit

by admin June 20, 2025

Midjourney’s new AI-generated video tool will produce animated clips featuring copyrighted characters from Disney and Universal, WIRED has found—including video of the beloved Pixar character Wall-E holding a gun.

It’s been a busy month for Midjourney. This week, the generative AI startup released its sophisticated new video tool, V1, which lets users make short animated clips from images they generate or upload. The current version of Midjourney’s AI video tool requires an image as a starting point; generating videos using text-only prompts is not supported.

The release of V1 comes on the heels of a very different kind of announcement earlier in June: Hollywood behemoths Disney and Universal filed a blockbuster lawsuit against Midjourney, alleging that it violates copyright law by generating images with the studios’ intellectual property.

Midjourney did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Disney and Universal reiterated statements made by its executives about the lawsuit, including Disney’s legal head Horacio Gutierrez alleging that Midjourney’s output amounts to “piracy.”

It appears that Midjourney may have attempted to put up some video-specific guardrails for V1. In our testing, it blocked animations from prompts based on Frozen’s Elsa, Boss Baby, Goofy, and Mickey Mouse, although it would still generate images of these characters. When WIRED asked V1 to animate images of Elsa, an “AI moderator” blocked the prompt from generating videos. “Al Moderation is cautious with realistic videos, especially of people,” read the pop-up message.

These limitations, which appear to be guardrails, are incomplete. WIRED testing shows that V1 will generate animated clips of a wide variety of Universal and Disney characters, including Homer Simpson, Shrek, Minions, Deadpool, and Star Wars’ C-3PO and Darth Vader. For example, when asked for an image of Minions eating a banana, Midjourney generated four outputs with recognizable versions of the cute, yellow characters. Then, when WIRED clicked the “Animate” button on one of the outputs, Midjourney generated a follow-up video with the characters eating a banana—peel and all.

Although Midjourney seems to have blocked some Disney- and Universal-related prompts for videos, WIRED could sometimes circumvent the potential guardrails during tests by using spelling variations or repeating the prompt. Midjourney also lets users provide a prompt to inform the animation; using that feature, WIRED was able to to generate clips of copyrighted characters behaving in adult ways, like Wall-E brandishing a firearm and Yoda smoking a joint.

The Disney and Universal lawsuit poses a major threat to Midjourney, which also faces additional legal challenges from visual artists who allege copyright infringement as well. Although it focused largely on providing examples from Midjourney’s image-generation tools, the complaint alleges that video would “only enhance Midjourney ability to distribute infringing copies, reproductions, and derivatives of Plaintiffs’ Copyrighted Works.”

The complaint includes dozens of alleged Midjourney images showing Universal and Disney characters. The set was initially produced as part of a report on Midjourney’s so-called “visual plagiarism problem” from AI critic and cognitive scientist Gary Marcus and visual artist Reid Southen.

“Reid and I pointed out this problem 18 months ago, and there’s been very little progress and very little change,” says Marcus. “We still have the same situation of unlicensed materials being used, and guardrails that work a little bit but not very well. For all the talk about exponential progress in AI, what we’re getting is better graphics, not a fundamental-principle solution to this problem.”

Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.4 will finally introduce those Fate/stay night collab characters you’ve been hearing about

by admin June 20, 2025

The big Honkai: Star Rail version 3.4 livestream took place earlier today, right on schedule. As with every major new iteration of the incredibly popular HoYoverse game, the main thing people have been looking forward to has been, of course, the new characters. The livestream did, indeed, show off the new characters that will be arriving in the free-to-play RPG soon.

The big news from the program is, of course, the imminent arrival of the Fate/stay night collab event. A collaboration between Honkai: Star Rail and genre-defining fantasy visual novel Fate/stay night was first announced in August of last year, at the same time as the latter received its long-overdue official English localisation and modern remaster. It was apparent at the time that the Star Rail crossover was going to be in the oven for a while longer; and indeed, 10 months down the line, the wait is almost over.

New characters introduced in Version 3.4 will include Fate series favourites Saber (as a 5-Star Wind/Destruction character who’ll be receiving her own banner in the gacha) and Archer (a 5-Star Quantum/Hunt character who will be claimable for free by everyone who logs into HSR during the collaboration). Both are expected to be available for longer than is usual in HSR, with the collab confirmed as lasting from Version 3.4 right through to the end of Version 3.6 (expected circa November of this year).

Additionally, Phainon — who’s been a major NPC since Version 3.0 launched early this year and was the first new character you met on Amphoreus — will finally be added as a playable unit, an honour already granted to several of his fellow Chrysos Heirs over the past few months. He’ll also be a 5-Star character, armed with a Physical/Destruction kit. Since the Fate collab characters exist outside of the usual banner cycle, all three new characters will be releasing in Phase 1.

Not only that, but the version will feature a grand total of six rerun banners, with Tribbie, Sunday, and Sparkle making a limited-time return to the gacha in Phase 1, while Firefly, Jingliu, and Blade all return during Phase 2. That means the latter half of this update will be a rare occasion when HSR receives no new characters, but considering how packed that line-up already is, I don’t think it’s exactly fair to complain.

And last but not least, everyone’s favourite Stellaron Hunters are getting some love in V3.4, with enhancements coming to the battle mechanics and Eidolon effects for Kafka, Silver Wolf, and Blade, as well as a new alternative outfit for Firefly. Jingliu will also be getting a kit enhancement of her own, which hopefully doesn’t mean this troubled Luofu loyalist is joining Elio’s morally-gray team of mercenaries now… although actually that could be rather cool.

Honkai: Star Rail 3.4 is scheduled to go live on July 2nd, with its changeover to the second banner phase expected on July 23rd. You can watch the whole special program livestream on the VOD below:

Back in May, Honkai: Star Rail’s version 3.3 update introduced Hyacine to the game, and brought back The Herta for the first time as part of its first phase. The banner’s second phase, on the other hand, kicked off just last week and brought new character – Cipher – to the game, alongside a few returning favourites.

It also featured the controversial recasting of the English-language voice actors for the playable protagonists, the female and male Trailblazers (canonically named Stelle and Caelus). This followed the actors’ participation in solidarity action with SAG-AFTRA, who recently suspended their long-running video game voice actor strike after the arrangement of a tentative agreement with several major studios. The status of several other characters whose actors have been participating in the action — which includes two other main characters, Dan Heng and Himeko — remain unclear.

Look how many of Elden Ring Nightreign’s skins reference classic Dark Souls characters, and how much better they look here

by admin June 16, 2025

Even before anyone was able to get their hands on Elden Ring Nightreign, we knew that it would bring back bosses, enemies, characters and more from classic FromSoftware games – including the Dark Souls series.

Dark Souls 3’s Nameless King boss could briefly be seen in an early trailer, and the final game has a lot more from those classic games. But how does the asset quality of their modern interpretations compare to the originals?

That is a very good question, and it’s one Souls dataminer and YouTuber BonfireVN attempts to answer in their latest video. The video focuses specifically on showing the Nightreign armour sets/skins that have history in earlier FromSoftware games.

For instance, it’s pretty clear to any Dark Souls fan that Wylder’s Abysswalker set is a clear reference to that game’s iconic Knight Artorias, just as the Guardian’s Sunlight Knight skin is an unmissable nod to that game’s Solaire of Astora. Even Patches makes an appearance, with his Dark Souls look having now become a skin (Black Leather) for the Duchess.

The video also uncovers several other, more obscure references to the classic games. Revenant’s Dragon School skin is a callback to Griggs of Vinheim, an NPC in the original Dark Souls. There’s also Ironeye, whose Sellsword skin is a replica of Dark Souls 2’s Chancellor Wellager attire.

Watch on YouTube

In many cases, these armour sets have appeared in more than a single game prior to their recreation in Nightreign, which gives us an even better appreciation of the model’s evolution, and how much more detailed their latest incarnations are.

If you’re curious about how you can unlock skins in Nightreign, we have a whole guide that explains everything. For all your other questions – including boss fight walkthroughs – hit up our mega Elden Ring Nightreign guide.

Nier: Automata creators deny characters “were problematic overseas” and blame mistranslated subtitle for censorship rumours

by admin June 14, 2025

Nier: Automata producer Yosuke Saito and director Yoko Taro have denied that any of their character designs were restricted for Western audiences.

As spotted by Automaton, the developers were compelled to comment after a mistranslated Japanese-to-English subtitle intimated Nier: Automata had been subjected to censorship from Square Enix to meet global standards.

GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE | Producers’ Creative Dialogue Special Livestream.Watch on YouTube

In the interview above (skip to 28:12 for the segment concerned), Sony executive Yoshida Shuhei asked the developers about their design process.

“Our concept is always to do something that’s ‘not like anything else’. What I mean is, if Nier: Replicant had a boy as the main character, Nier: Automata would have a girl protagonist. If Western sci-fi is filled with Marine-like soldiers, we might go in the opposite direction and use Gothic Lolita outfits, for example,” Taro said. “We tend to take the contrarian route.”

“There are, of course, certain things that are ethically or morally inappropriate – even if they’re just aspects of a character,” Saito added, according to the subtitles. “We try to draw a line by establishing rules about what’s acceptable and what’s not.

“While certain things might be acceptable in Japan, they could become problematic in certain overseas regions, and even characters could become problematic as well. These are the kind of situation[s] we usually try to avoid creating. As a result, there are actually countries where we couldn’t officially release Nier: Automata.”

This immediately caused consternation with fans but as Automaton points out, this “could be a little tricky to translate, even for an advanced Japanese speaker”.

When asked directly about the claim, Taro denied it, saying on X/Twitter: “I’ve never heard of such a thing happening”. Saito simply said he thought the things he’d mentioned had been mistranslated, and would clarify this in a future livestream.

In the same interview, former PlayStation exec Shuhei Yoshida called Nier: Automata the “game that changed everything”, as it was responsible for reviving the Japanese games industry on its release. In a recent interview, Yoshida discussed how during the PS3 era, sales of Japanese games had declined, and increasingly studios there were chasing “overseas tastes”.

That changed with NieR: Automata in 2017, released for the PS4. “I think Yoko Taro created it without paying any mind at all to making it sell overseas, but it was a tremendous success,” Yoshida said.

Batman Begins 20 Years Later: Ranking Nolan Trilogy Characters

by admin June 14, 2025

Image: Warner Bros. Pictures

You can’t make a list about this trilogy without mentioning the Joker and his performance, which is so iconic that it outshines the hero of the story. It is an interpretation that, when first seen in a picture, initially received negative feedback. But now, all that has essentially been erased from reality, as if no one had ever had a negative thing to say about it. Heath Ledger’s Joker reinterpreted this character for a new era in our culture, and this Joker, not much different than other versions at its core, was perfect for this Michael Mann crime film-inspired world of The Dark Knight. It was an interpretation that changed the way the Oscars work. This take on the Joker is one of the first times I recall a superhero movie where people argue that the Joker is right.

From his messy makeup to his dark jokes about his scars he uses to scare people, the Joker is something Bruce just doesn’t understand, even with constant advice from Alfred. The Joker’s terrorism in Gotham shakes everyone to their core, from citizens and the government to even the criminals, as he attacks the soul of Gotham to prove his nihilistic views of the world.

The Joker attacks what is in this film the heart of the city—Harvey Dent—and shatters Batman’s hope. Batman loses in this film; while the Joker is stopped, he ultimately achieves his goals in the end. It wasn’t Batman who proved the Joker wrong – it was a convict. Batman and Gordon had lied to everyone so that the city wouldn’t fall apart, and in the end, Batman had to become the villain to the public. It’s rare to see Batman lose, but with the Joker, it’s the only time it ever makes sense.

Out of Words features one of the cutest videogame characters I’ve ever seen, but there’s a tinge of Kafkaesque darkness to it, too

by admin June 13, 2025

After yapping about nothing but videogames for three days at Summer Game Fest, I tried my best to talk about anything else, but I just couldn’t stop bringing up Out of Words.

It’s a sidescrolling tale of young love brought to life by a charming handicraft world and striking stop-motion animation. Being the type of person who’s always experimenting with amateur arts and crafts and playing Jim Henson’s Labyrinth on repeat must make me the perfect target for this, but the creations here benefit from a team of real artisans.

When it launches, you’ll be able to play Out of Words with a friend on the couch or connect with them online, regardless of platform. In my demo, I played with game director Johan Oettinger, while game design lead Jeff Sparks joined us for a chat. It’s a strictly co-op adventure, and how its protagonists play will change throughout the journey to reflect the emotions and story connecting the kids, Karla and Kurt.

Related articles

An “Alice in Wonderland” moment happens almost immediately, dropping the friends into an unfamiliar and troubled world that hinders their ability to speak. It’s also when you meet Aleph—the darling manta-like creature that’s a manifestation of their friendship and feelings for each other.

The Out of Words duo are cute as a button, but screenshot stills don’t do Aleph justice. The bubbly blue baby purrs, coos, and squeaks while twirling about to lighten the mood. It makes perfect sense Aleph is born from good feelings between kind, gentle people. It’s gotta be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, and it’s not just a me thing, either. Characters in later scenes seem drawn to its warmth in a way I suspect will have some special meaning for the big picture.

When the demo skips ahead, it takes Kurt, Karla, and the painfully precious Aleph underneath the City of Nouns, aptly named Nounberg. To navigate the dangers of the catacombs, the friends toss Aleph back and forth, juggling its magic to avoid obstacles.

The player holding Aleph floats along the ceiling, while the other runs along the ground like normal. Oettinger never dropped me, but I did let him go tumbling once or twice before finding our pace as a team. If you can learn to give up a little control and trust your partner, the mechanic turns into a comfortable dance. It’s not difficult, but it’s quite satisfying.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

“There’s enough of a challenge to feel like you’re overcoming, but we really want to keep it modest,” Sparks said. “So that you can play it with your child, a non-gamer partner or parent. Someone who’s a little less versed in videogames. We really want to make this as approachable as possible.”

Despite Kurt and Karla’s predicament, the introduction to the catacombs feels surprisingly calm, almost meditative. Character puppets, blades of grass, and books—everything in the world of Vokabulantis is a real object that was made by hand and filled to the brim with tiny details. Set pieces are individually placed, while scenes are lit with actual studio lighting.

The whole presentation felt like a diorama I could reach out and touch. It’s no small feat, but Oettinger tells me he’s been fabricating crafts like these for over twenty years as the founder of his animation studio, WiredFly.

Immediately, the studio’s approach makes me think of Ghibli, but not in the exclusively cute and cozy way popularly associated with the studio today. Out of Words is dark, beautiful, and comforting. I didn’t see anything quite as terrifying as Princess Mononoke’s headless Forest Spirit, but I did encounter strange creatures and unease more familiar in films like Spirited Away. Oettinger notes Hayao Miyazaki is among the artists who inspire him, along with Franz Kafka, Michael Ende, and David Bowie.

There’s a point when Kurt and Karla’s own anxieties and miscommunication manifest, and the darker side of those influences emerge. Whatever happens triggers a new low in their friendship, and the two become an abomination of something called Primordial Clay. It’s a divine substance that makes up much of the life in the strange world, and seems to sense how the duo feels.

I was a little taken aback by how monstrous their insecurities take shape. Karla and Kurt are stuck together, the darling little Aleph sandwiched somewhere in the middle. Their movements no longer complement each other; instead, they move together as a messy, bumbling skull-like creature with two arms—one for each player to control.

It destroys pieces of the city as it tears through alleyways and shops, desperate to catch a frightened clay citizen who may have more answers about how to help them find their words again. The rhythm of controlling their embodied ugliness came slower, but I found my groove with time. That’s intentional, too. Sparks explained the transition demonstrates “just how dramatic the gameplay changes are between sequences.”

Out of Words is a coming-of-age story, but the complexities of communication are a lifelong challenge, even in old age. My first trailer impression misread the game, and I assumed the only communication happening would take place through actions, but I was wrong. There’s plenty of direct language involved, and it brings the same artistry from the art style to the names of places and people thanks to poet Morten Søndergaard.

My only disappointment came when the demo ended—I miss Karla, Kurt, and Aleph already. There’s so much craftsmanship in the words, in the interactions, and in the placement of trinkets; it’s a real showcase of specialist talent. While my demo experience wasn’t very long, only some 40 or so minutes, I can’t help but walk away feeling like Out of Words could be one of those games that endears me to the medium all over again.

Your character’s attribute letter grades in Elden Ring Nightreign don’t really mean much, but you can still use them to your advantage

by admin June 11, 2025

Elden Ring Nightreign is, at its core, an RPG with character stats that grow each time you level up. Because of the rapid pace of runs, however, FromSoftware simplified that process and turned it into a one-button affair.

When you reach a Site of Grace, you press that to gain new levels, without having to worry about stat allocation. The game does that in the background, though in different ways depending on your chosen class.

But what about those starting attributes and their letter grades? Well, it’s complicated.

FromSoft dataminer and all-around Souls investigator, Zullie the Witch, have revealed some interesting details about the way stats and levelling work in Nightreign. Their latest video attempts to show the true stats of each of the game’s different classes.

Each class has an attributes screen that lists a few of the more common stats: HP, FP, Strength, Faith and so on. It also assigns a letter grade to each to signify which areas of that spectrum they’re strong/weak in. It does this, however, without revealing any hard numbers, or really explaining what each grade corresponds to.

As you may have already guessed, each class does have a traditional stats screen, which we see in the Zullie’s latest video. Looking at that screen, you can also see that the jump from level 1 to 2 is the biggest across the entire system, with level 12 being the softcap.

Watch on YouTube

The true nature of each class, of course, is dictated by which attributes they favour, but the grading system itself does not appear to follow a set formula. The Duchess, for instance, has a B in in DEX and an A in INT, despite their values being almost identical.

The video also reveals that Relics that boost attack stats are more powerful at lower character levels, but tend to not matter much once you upgrade your weapon, and gain damage bonuses through other sources.

As Zullie points out in the video, of course, Nightreign’s random nature doesn’t make it easy to target specific builds, but knowing each characters’ true stat sheet means you can better pick Relics and other items that you know will benefit your class the most.

In other Nightreign news, the game received a new update yesterday that brought a couple of balance changes, as well as some bug fixes. It’s not a big one, but more is on the way. For more on FromSoft’s latest, hit up our mega Elden Ring Nightreign guide for some juicy tips and walkthroughs.

Street Fighter 6 Year 3 Character Pass: Characters, release windows & more

by admin June 7, 2025

Street Fighter 6’s Season 3 character pass got revealed all at once during Summer Game Fest 2025, with all four characters that’ll be added over the next year being made public.

It’s a mix of fan-favorite characters from several past Street Fighter games. No guest characters this time around, Season 3 will be made up entirely of O.G. fighters, one of which hasn’t been seen in the series for literal decades and is older than some pro players.

Article continues after ad

Here’s every new character in Street Fighter 6’s Season 3’s fighter pass as well as their official release windows.

Street Fighter 6’s Year 3 Character Pass is a huge throwback

Revealed via a series of Kenny Omega cosplays, Fighter Pass 3 includes the following characters: Ingrid, Sagat, C. Viper, and Alex.

Here are their release dates in order:

  • Sagat: Summer 2025
  • C. Viper: Autumn 2025
  • Alex: Early Spring 2026
  • Ingrid: Late Spring 2026

While Alex and Sagat were both in Street Fighter 5, the other two characters haven’t been present in the series for a long time.

Article continues after ad

C. Viper’s last appearance was in Street Fighter 4, a game that was originally released in 2007, and Ingrid was a boss character in Street Fighter 3 Alpha 3 MAX, a game from 1998. She hasn’t been present in the series since and was originally ripped from a cancelled Capcom All Stars title. Hopefully Ingrid isn’t a boss-level character in this entry like she was in her last appearance.

Article continues after ad

It’s worth mentioning that Capcom’s definition of how long the year’s seasons are has historically dragged on, with Elena’s release in June still being technically Spring. So, these dates are by no means set in stone and may be later than you expect.

And, though Street Fighter 6 is one of Capcom’s most successful games ever, it isn’t yet clear if they’ll be going for a fourth Season of content after this. Street Fighter 5’s cast was massive, so it’d take literal years to get every character from that game converted over.
