The original Elden Ring allowed you to create a character and deck them out in any number of unique pieces of armor to truly show off your fashion skills. However, multiplayer spin-off Nightreign features fixed character classes and progress that resets after every run, so you won’t be finding any sick armor to wear in this one. Instead, you’ll need to purchase and change full outfits for each character if you want to look different.

To change your outfit in Elden Ring Nightreign, you’ll first need to complete two full expeditions. This could take quite a few hours, depending on your skill level, luck, and access to a decent group. This is a brutally challenging game, after all, so nothing comes quickly. Give it time.

After completing two full expeditions of your choosing, you’ll unlock the “Change Garb” feature in your menu, which you can select to instantly access the outfit-changing menu. However, you can also manually access a mirror on the east side of the Roundtable Hold to access the same menu—though that generally sounds like a bit of unnecessary work.

When you first unlock the ability to change garbs, you’ll find that you only have access to a total of three outfits per character. You’ll have the default skin automatically, of course, and you can purchase two additional skins, Dawn and Darkness, for each character using Murk (currency).

If you don’t like either of the extra outfits available in the beginning, don’t worry about it. You can purchase additional outfits much later in the game, so keep at it. It’s an ultra-hard game, but practice makes perfect.

In Elden Ring Nightreign, you can equip skins on your Nightfarer classes, but the game doesn’t clearly show you the place to change or purchase new cosmetics. Therefore, it can be challenging for many players to customise their in-game appearance with the existing skins, and they may end up spending their in-game resources on other items.

Here is a complete breakdown of everything you need to know about the skins in Elden Ring Nightreign. 

How to unlock skins in Elden Ring Nightreign

To unlock the skins in Elden Ring Nightreign, you need to start going to the Expeditions and take out the final bosses once the circle stops becoming small. On day three of the Tricephalos expedition, you should face the mighty Gladius, Beast of Night, and you can defeat him to get the Old Pocketwatch, which is necessary for unlocking the Duchess class. 

After that, start another expedition called Gaping Jaw, where on the third day, you can again open the big door to face the Adel, Baron of Night. He is the second Night Lord that you will be facing chronologically, and once you defeat him, you should be transported back to the Roundtable Hold with your rewards. You should now also trigger a cutscene, where an NPC will come to you and talk about dresses. Once the cutscene ends, you should have successfully unlocked the skins for the Nightfarer that you’ve unlocked in the game.

Once you’ve unlocked the skins, make your way to the dresser from the Roundtable Hold by taking the left way toward the eastern side until you come across the room with the fireplace. You can also press M to open the map and click on the change garb option on the left to transport directly in front of the mirror near the fireplace. Now, you can interact with it to check out the skins for every character that you have in the game. 

You need to spend a currency called Murk to purchase the skins. Currently, there are just two skins for each class, but the number could potentially increase with the game’s upcoming DLCs. After changing your attire using the dresser for the first time, you should get the Dresser achievement.

New technology doesn’t arrive fully formed, I remind myself as I strap on a pirate’s eye patch, then place a heavily modified bicycle helmet onto my head. It isn’t the most glamorous getup. But here, in a small office on an unassuming business park on the outskirts of Cambridge, England, it could be the foundations of something quite remarkable

I’m here to meet AllFocal Optics, a startup that has patented a new type of nanophotonic lens with the power to transform everything from virtual and augmented reality headsets, to night vision goggles, binoculars, cameras and heads-up displays (HUDs). It’s the latter that piqued my interest, after hearing Jaguar Land Rover has embarked on a research project to discover whether the lens can improve car HUDs and, with it, road safety.

Its makers also claim—and prove, with the aforementioned helmet, as well as a butchered Meta Quest 3—that the lens can produce a digital image with perfect clarity, even if you have poor vision, without the need for glasses.

Founded in 2022 as Lark but since renamed AllFocal Optics, the company is headed by former Royal Academy of Engineering enterprise fellow Dr Pawan Shrestha. Dr Ash Saulsbury, former technology VP at Microsoft and former Meta AR boss, joined late last year as chair, around the same time that the startup secured a $5.3m funding round.

AllFocal Optics says the lens it has created offers two technological breakthroughs. Firstly, when used in an AR or VR headset, like the Apple Vision Pro or Meta Quest 3, it claims to provide crystal-clear vision to the wearer, even if they need glasses but aren’t wearing them.

Even if you require a significant prescription, or suffer from astigmatism, its makers say the lens beams a clear picture directly to your retina, bypassing the needs for glasses entirely. In theory, two people could share the same AR or VR headset, even if one has 20/20 vision and the other needs very strong corrective lenses.

I tried several prototypes of the lens and, yes, it works. I don’t wear glasses, so the first demonstration—viewing digital text beamed from a laptop to an augmented reality headset—didn’t seem overly impressive. But then I repeated the test while wearing glasses so strong I couldn’t see my own hands in front of my face, and yet the digital text was still pin-sharp. It’s the sort of tech demo that takes a moment to truly appreciate, but when your brain finally connects the dots it feels like magic.

Not only does the lens sidestep vision impairment, it also produces an image far sharper than the likes of Microsoft’s HoloLens (may it rest in peace), despite the input being the same 720p resolution. With the prototype lens it was easy—and this is where the eyepatch comes in—to read a chunk of text where half was augmented and half was printed on a sheet of paper, but with the HoloLens this was impossible. The augmented half of each line was a blurred mess.

Looking Sharp

What’s more, the text remains sharp regardless of what your eyes are actually focused on. I experimented with focusing first on my hand just a few inches from my face, then on the other side of the room, yet the augmented text stayed in focus. Interestingly, its size adjusts depending on where you’re looking; I could make it appear as a tiny font on my finger, or as poster-sized writing on the opposite wall. It’s also possible to look through it, focusing on the middle-distance as you might while driving, but no matter what your eyes and their lenses do, the digital text remains sharp and legible.

I used to ignore my peripherals, but these 3 things made me change my mind

It’s been nearly 20 years since I built my first PC. Those first attempts were shaky, scary, and of course, very budget-oriented, but I was immediately hooked. But PC building is an expensive hobby, so in my chase for the best graphics cards and top-shelf processors, I always neglected my peripherals.

Years later, I’ve learned my lesson, and I know now that finding some balance between loading up on components and ignoring them in favor of expensive peripherals is important. Here are the three upgrades I splurged on in the last couple of years, and why I think you should do the same.

High-quality gaming mouse

Before I ever entertained the idea of building my own PC, I was already a gamer. I started gaming when I was just a few years old, and that was mostly on the SNES. Despite that fact, I never really played games that relied heavily on having a good mouse.

My early PC gaming memories include titles like RollerCoaster Tycoon, Pharaoh, Civilization, The Sims, and Diablo 2. (I bet you can guess my age based on that information.) I later moved on to World of Warcraft and got hooked for, well, a very long time. A mouse was needed, sure, but it was never a make it or break it kind of situation. I never got into first-person shooters or MOBAs, so I didn’t need a speedy mouse; I just needed something that worked.

The result? I continuously bought $5 to $10 mice that lasted a mere few months before needing to be replaced. I thought that was good enough, but boy, was I wrong.

The concept of the Razer Naga mouse was always intriguing to me. As I often play MMOs and games that require a bunch of keybinds, assigning different combinations of Shift or Control was getting annoying. I never had the budget to support getting a better mouse, though, so I ignored the hunch for years — until I finally decided to take the plunge and get myself the Razer Naga V2 Pro.

Getting a proper mouse was an eye-opening experience. The feel, the speed, the accuracy, and the addition of so many extra buttons really transformed my gaming experience. This mouse wasn’t cheap, and I tried out a few midrange mice before it, but ultimately, I got stuck on this one — and I love it.

My only regret? I don’t think I’ll ever be able to use a super cheap mouse again without wishing I had something better. I might just stick to various iterations of the Naga as long as they’re being produced.

Mechanical keyboard

I’ve always abused my keyboards — anyone who types as much as I do does the same thing. I don’t just use my keyboard for games, I use it for work and for fun (I like to write in my spare time, too, who would’ve thought). As such, I went through keyboards the same way I went through mice: Very, very quickly.

Being on a tight budget for many of my PC builds, I always just bought any sort of keyboard. The kind that’s just called “gaming keyboard” and barely even mentions the manufacturer. I eyed the big brands with some jealousy, but I always settled for those $10 to $20 no-name alternatives.

Funnily enough, reading articles right here on Digital Trends convinced me to reconsider my stance on expensive keyboards. One of my colleagues covered a lot of mechanical keyboards and curated a list of the best gaming keyboards. Reading about them convinced me to give it a go, and wow, am I glad that I did.

If you’re a little skeptical like I was, let me tell you: Mechanical keyboards are not just an unnecessary expense. If you like a click-y type of keyboard that really responds to everything you type, as well as a keyboard you can fully customize, you really should just try one.

Me? I owned my mechanical keyboard for all of five minutes before declaring that I’d never ever go back to membrane. It’s just way too good.

Decent monitors (that actually match)

I’m one of those people who are still holding on to their dual monitor setups instead of switching to ultrawides. What can I say — my neck hates it, but I can’t imagine scaling back to just one monitor. Both for gaming and for work, I use my second monitor nearly constantly, and sometimes, I almost wish I had three. (I’m talking myself out of it, I promise.)

But, much like keyboards and mice, I always just prioritized my displays a lot lower than my actual PC. I’d spend more of my budget on components and then tell myself that I’d maybe get a better monitor one day. Then, once I saved up, I’d instead be tempted by something like more storage, RAM, or a better GPU.

When I upgraded my PC last year, I chose to balance things out a bit more. The truth is that having a great PC and low-quality displays is a waste; a monitor needs to be good enough to keep up with your GPU, after all. As a result, I finally upgraded to 1440p monitors with 165Hz refresh rates. Those monitors are kind of the standard now, but I used 1080p 60Hz for years.

It’s like night and day. The refresh rates are almost a necessity with a decent PC, and more screen real estate, thanks to the higher resolution, is super welcome, too. Again, I ruined budget monitors for myself, and I can’t imagine going back.

Balance is important

It’s entirely possible to get by with low-quality peripherals. I did it for years, and I still had a blast using each and every PC I’ve ever built — no complaints.

I knew that it wasn’t optimal. Having a cheap monitor with a high-end PC doesn’t make much sense, but then, I mostly had mainstream PCs that couldn’t aim higher than 1080p anyway. When you’re trying to stay within a certain budget, it’s easy to focus on the one thing you know is going to be a huge upgrade, such as pushing for more RAM or a better processor.

It’s true that my pricier (although not super high-end) peripherals don’t increase my frame rates in games, but they certainly boost the enjoyment I get from using my PC. I love every single keystroke on my mechanical keyboard; my mouse (kind of) makes me play better (sometimes); my monitors finally feel right and can keep up with my GPU.

Gaming experience doesn’t always need to equal frame rates. It took me too long to realize that, but from now on, I know I’ll always balance it out.

If you’re in the same boat, treat yourself to a better keyboard or a new headset when you can — you’ll love it in a whole new way.

How To Find And Change Alma’s Glasses

While the base game of Monster Hunter Wilds allows you to customize your hunter, Palico, and Seikret, the game’s first Title Update also added customization for Alma. Your handler can now try on some new outfits and even swap between pairs of glasses. Unfortunately, there isn’t much explanation about how to attain these new styles, and her glasses are locked behind an optional quest that’s easy to get lost in.

How to Change Alma’s Outfit

There are currently three alternate outfit choices in addition to Alma’s default look. However, you can only permanently unlock Alma’s other outfits by downloading them from your platform’s store. Naturally, you can grab these from the store before jumping in for a session, but there is also a method to do it in-game as well. Simply head to a Support Deck Palico at one of the base camps or in the Grand Hub. Then, go into the Add-Ons section and keep an eye out for these options:

  • Scrivener’s Coat: Alma’s outfit from the game’s prologue. Can be downloaded for free
  • New World Commission Outfit:Gives Alma the default handler look from Monster Hunter World. This will cost you $5.99
  • Spring Blossom Kimono: A special themed outfit Alma can freely wear during the Festival of Accord: Blossomdance event. It can also be permanently unlocked by purchasing it for $5.99

Once you’ve downloaded either one, head into any tent. Scroll over to the right to access the Appearance Menu, select Change Appearance, and then select Change Alma’s Outfit. You’ll be taken to a new menu where you can choose between her default and newly downloaded outfits.

How to Complete The Apple of Her Eye Quest

Alma doesn’t have as many customization options as everyone else, but she can change out her glasses. The only catch is that you need to unlock them through a new optional quest first. Talking to Alma in the new update will start a dialogue where she exclaims that her new glasses are gone. She deduces that they might have gotten lost in the Scarlet Forest, which starts off the Apple of Her Eye side quest.

Your first destination is the Wudwud Hideout in the Scarlet Forest. Head over there and talk to Thunk, a Wudwud standing near the hideout’s entrance. They’ll tell you that any lost items can usually be found down the river. A marker will appear on your map, although it might be hard to see if you’re like me and leave your map cluttered. The quickest way there is to travel to the Scarlet Forest Base Camp in Area One and then take a quick Seikret ride north.

It won’t take long before you come across a marked Wudwud, who will then point you further down the river. After a quick walk, you’ll find one of his adorable fellows wearing Alma’s glasses upside-down. This new little guy will immediately run off toward the Wudwud hideout. Return there and talk to Thunk again; he’ll tell you that your best option is to ask the others when they’re having festivities. They won’t be holding their festivities until the nighttime during a season of plenty. Taking a Rest to adjust the season and time is the quickest way to set this up.

Head up to the top of the hideout when the conditions are met. Talk to all the Wudwuds to receive some items, open up some trade routes, and get information on Ayejack, the one who has the glasses. Their hints will piece together that he’s asleep below. Without a quest marker to assist, this is where things get a little confusing.

To find the sleeping Ayejack, you’ll have to jump back down to the main level of the Wudwud hideout. The hanging pouches made up of leaves and vines are what serve as their beds. Ayejack can be found across from the item trading Musharpeye, inside a pouch that’s close to the giant tree. A quest marker will finally pop up once you’ve gotten close to him.

Unfortunately, finding and waking him up is only the penultimate part of this quest. He’ll only give up the glasses if you give him some Eastern Honey in return. These are the best ways to gather it if you need any:

  • From capturing Vigorwasps
  • Occasional rewards for Event Quests
  • Rare drop from gathering Honey
  • Trade with Ren, located at Sild – The Keeper’s Vigil in Wyveria
  • Trade with Gawdygog, located at the Wudwud Hideout in the Scarlet Forest

Talk to him when you have some to complete the trade. The quest ends with Alma happy to have her new red spectacles and more than willing to wear them. The next time you visit a tent to change her outfit, there will be an option to change the glasses to these red ones or a bonus set of square ones.

Additionally, you can also craft these two new glasses as High Rank armor for your hunter. You can find them under Strategist Spectacles and Square Glasses. They’re pretty useful for gathering with fully leveled Geologist and Botanist skills.

If it’s anything like previous entries, Monster Hunter Wilds is sure to add plenty of cosmetic DLC. We’ll likely see new outfits for Alma as well, but I probably wouldn’t bet on many more freebies.
