Don’t Expect PlayStation’s Current PC Port Strategy To Change Anytime Soon

by admin June 13, 2025

Amidst Xbox’s multiplatform publishing strategy, Sony is reiterating its commitment to prioritizing the PlayStation 5. During a recent Sony business meeting and “fireside chat,” PlayStation Studios CEO Hermen Hulst stated the company is taking a “very measured, very deliberate approach” when it comes to deciding if and when a first-party title appears on other platforms like PC.

Sony has been porting many of its marquee titles to PC for years. Some of its more recent live-service titles, like Helldivers 2 and the short-lived Concord, released day-and-date on console and PC, while tentpole single-player games like God of War: Ragnarok or Ghost of Tsushima typically release on PS5 first and arrive at least a year later on PC.

When asked about the industry’s move towards multiplatform titles and how Sony is looking to protect the “value” of the PS5 console, Hulst indicated that Sony isn’t looking to change its current strategy.

“It’s important to realize that we’re really thoughtful about bringing our franchises off console to reach new audiences and that we’re taking a very measured, very deliberate approach in doing that,” Hulst said. “Particularly on the single-player side, our tentpole titles, they’re such a point of differentiation for the PlayStation console.”

He went on to say that Sony’s first-party titles are meant to be a showcase for the PS5 hardware, and that the company wants players to “get the best experience” from these titles playing on PS5.

“We’re very thoughtful about how and if and how we bring these titles to other platforms,” Hulst said.

It’s an approach that appears to be working, even as Microsoft doubles down on its multiplatform game strategy of releasing Xbox titles on PS5 with positive results. When asked about Microsoft’s strategy and whether or not it’s a good thing, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Hideaki Nishino said he believed competition in the industry is good and creates innovation, but that Sony is “confident and committed to our current strategy.”

In addition to discussing how its approaching platform exclusivity, Sony reiterated its commitment to live-service titles, with Hulst stating he doesn’t believe Bungie’s upcoming shooter Marathon will suffer the same fate as Concord.

Last of Us writer says hated season 2 ‘dad’ line was last-minute change

by admin June 12, 2025

There are no shortage of reasons why The Last of Us season 2 has proven controversial, but many of those criticisms have a common root: the script. As dissatisfied fans tell it, the protagonist of the show is an immature and incompetent interpretation of Ellie, the character portrayed in the Naughty Dog games. There’s one moment in the show in particular that was so emblematic of that tonal discrepancy, fans turned it into a meme. And now, showrunner Craig Mazin has given some insight as to how he and his collaborator Neil Druckmann arrived at the oft-ridiculed dialogue.

In early episodes of season 2, Dina, Ellie’s love interest and companion during her journey to seek revenge, is shown repeatedly throwing up. At first, it seems as if Dina is having a human reaction to witnessing gory carnage that could twist anyone’s stomach. Later, it becomes clear that Dina is pregnant with the baby of a former lover, Jesse.

Dina reveals this piece of information after the duo pass through a pharmacy, where she picks up a bunch of expired pregnancy tests that all turn out positive. Ellie is bewildered at the news, but quickly adapts to the idea. “So we’re all having a baby,” Ellie says with a buoyant expression. Dina meets her gaze with a lighthearted smile that diffuses the weight of the news. Ellie then takes a deep breath and exclaims, “I’m going to be a dad!”

The scene unfolds much differently in the games. Dina shares the state of her pregnancy while crying. She doesn’t seem enthused about the pregnancy at all. If anything, she seems anxious. Ellie responds incredulously, which matches the show, but the scene never exhales that initial tension. In the games, rather than instantly warming up to the idea, Ellie becomes angry. She asks Dina how long she knew she was pregnant. An exasperated Dina responds by saying that she suspected it but wasn’t sure, and she didn’t want to say anything to avoid becoming a burden. Ellie throws it back in Dina’s face by responding, “Well you’re a burden now, aren’t you?”

Though the show’s depiction of that moment matches the more jovial tone of Ellie and Dina’s relationship in its world, the two scenes couldn’t be any more different. Ellie isn’t excited about the prospect of parenthood in the games, which later informs the player’s understanding of why Ellie leaves her family life behind in pursuit of Abby once more.

Previously, the HBO showrunners said that they didn’t feel that they needed to have total fidelity to the games. Rather, the writers were preoccupied with maximizing the strengths of their perspective mediums. In a clip shared by Sky Ireland on TikTok, Craig Mazin gave further insight as to how he arrived at the dialogue in the show.

“Bella and I were talking about that episode, I like to run things past them all the time,” Mazin recalls. “And I was like — this just popped into my head. I don’t know why, it just felt right. It’s not an expression of gender as much as state of mind.”

Mazin then suggests that when he makes alterations like these to the script, he gauges the reactions from the actors. It is not enough for the actor to be amenable to the changes — the performer has to seem excited, Mazin says. An emphatic reaction tells Mazin that his adjustments are on the right track. And apparently, Bella was excited about the change.

”The joy that just burbles out of Bella when they say, ‘I’m going to be a dad,‘ it’s wonderful,“ Mazin says.

Unfortunately, the line did not land with fans, who ultimately turned into a meme. To wit, when I typed “ellie im going to be a dad” into Google, it auto-completed to add “meme” at the end. The top results are all Photoshops of the line read where Bella’s face has been distorted to capture the absurdity of the scene.

Google

Mazin’s breakdown, which makes the dialogue change almost seem like a random idea, tells me that the jokes around the dad line just got more fuel added to the fire.

How this Bitcoin investor turned spare change into seven figures

by admin June 12, 2025

What started as a simple daily habit has officially grown into a million-dollar Bitcoin portfolio, after several years of quiet, consistent accumulation.

According to data recently shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), an anonymous investor who purchased $30 worth of Bitcoin (BTC) every single day for the past 7 years, 10 months, and 12 days has recently joined the BTC millionaires’ club.

pic.twitter.com/MfKQGuceYx

This user been buying bitcoin $30 a day DCA and after 7 years, 10 months and 12 days, made it to $1M portfolio.

Total spent $86,370 which now worth $1M

— lynk (@lynk0x) June 11, 2025

The individual has spent a total of around $86,370 since their mission commenced in 2017, and that steady stream of small buys is now worth over a million dollars today.

No risky leverage, no market timing, just an almost eight-year streak of daily purchases through various industry phases, including the 2017 bull run and crash, the 2018 bear market, the 2020-2021 bull run, the 2022 downturn, and the 2024/2025 ETF-fueled rally, among others.

The milestone marks a 1,057% return on investment through dollar-cost averaging (DCA), a long-term strategy where fixed amounts are invested at regular intervals regardless of market conditions.

Crypto Twitter celebrated the feat, praising the investor’s consistency and patience. Some even dubbed the anonymous new millionaire “ a whole legend”, adding that they deserve the profits for their level of conviction.

@lynk0x DCAing $30 a day into bitcoin is like planting acorns and pretending you didn’t see the oak tree coming. congrats to this absolute unit of patience.

— Alice in Blockland (@AliceBlockland) June 11, 2025

The milestone comes as Bitcoin continues to flirt with higher price levels, recently peaking over $110,000 before settling to trade at its current $107,000 level. Growing institutional adoption and other bullish market factors are fueling optimism for even higher prices ahead, suggesting that more gains could still be in store for the new millionaire investor.

Apple’s Liquid Glass was a wild change to my iPhone

by admin June 10, 2025

After staring at, scrolling through, and puzzling over Apple’s new Liquid Glass design language on my iPhone for the better part of an afternoon, I don’t hate it. But I also think it needs a little more time in the kiln.

Apple announced Liquid Glass on Monday for all of its devices at WWDC 2025. Perhaps the most noticeable thing about it is that app icons, tab bars, and even the text magnifier you’ll see when you hover over words feel, well, liquid-y and glassy.

The idea seems to be that because they’re “floating” a layer over things like your lockscreen wallpaper or text, the “glass” can be translucent to give you a sense of what’s under them. It makes sense. The initial implementation in the iOS 26 developer beta has many of Apple’s signature flourishes and attention to detail.

But boy are the changes jarring when you first see them.

Let me show you just how dramatically it changes things. Below, on the left is a picture of my iOS 18 lockscreen I shared with David Pierce for the Installer newsletter just last month, and on the right is my lockscreen today, on my iPhone 16 Pro with the iOS 26 developer beta (out now) installed.

iOS 18 on the left, iOS 26 on the right.

Even in my intentionally grayscale homescreen, I hope you can see that the differences are immediately apparent. Everything is transparent and shiny.

Here’s my homescreen with the color added back in, if you want a different way to look at it. Many icons are familiar, but they’re all… bubblier.

Here’s the Control Center, which is frankly a mess right now. The transparency of Liquid Glass makes it look cluttered, and that’s even with my gray homescreen. I hope Apple makes everything under the Control Center a little more opaque so that it’s easier to read at a glance.

The Clock app shows a good example of the finer details that have changed. The bottom tab bar is rounded, and when you tap different tabs, the selector shifts over in an animation that I can best describe as a water droplet moving across the tab. (Pressing and holding the droplet allows you to drag it across the tab bar, which is an admittedly cool effect.) You might also notice that the button to turn the alarm on and off is more oval than circular.

And here are a few other tidbits that I thought would be worth sharing. The iOS keyboard has an all-new look:

Screenshot by Jay Peters / The Verge

The Settings app has way too much space between each setting category (which is a problem I’ve also noticed in the messages list in Messages):

Screenshot by Jay Peters / The Verge

Things under the URL bar in Safari will “bend” due to the Liquid Glass design:

Screenshot by Jay Peters / The Verge

And system prompts look different:

At first, I hated the big changes. That surprised me. I’m usually fine with UI tweaks. Back in the day, I was on board with even the earliest and worst versions of iOS 7. But after a couple of hours with the iOS 26 developer beta, Liquid Glass is growing on me.

My iPhone still functions like it used to. I have a lot of small complaints, especially with the spacing of settings functions and Control Center. But I expect Apple will tweak and fix a lot of the bigger issues ahead of the official launch of iOS 26 this fall.

Five Things To Change Before You Play

by admin June 10, 2025

Photo: Kotaku

The Switch 2 has a ton of new features and a much more detailed list of settings you can tinker with than its predecessor. Here are four you should change right from the jump to improve your overall experience with Nintendo’s new Mario Kart World machine. Just go into the settings menu inside the gear icon near the bottom right of the home screen to get started.

Nintendo Switch 2 Could Launch With Almost No Reviews

Calibrate HDR and turn it off for games that don’t support it

The Switch 2 offers upgraded visuals, including HDR (high dynamic range). It’s supposed to make the picture quality more vibrant with darker darks and lighter lights, but it can also make games look washed out if they don’t support it. Oddly, the Switch 2 turns HDR on by default for everything. Fortunately, you can toggle it to only turn on for games that support it. You’ll also want to calibrate HDR for your TV display when the Switch 2 is docked. You can do that by using one of those dials where you keep going until the image is barely visible.

Automatically turn charging off to improve battery life

The Switch 2 contains a nice new option to have your battery life cap out around 90 percent when you’re charging it. This is to help extend the overall life of the battery, and it’s ability to retain a charge years down the road. Once again, it’s just another straightforward option you can toggle to from the settings menu, and you can always go back and fully charge up before a trip or another extended period of being away from an outlet.

Turn off this one internet setting to boost download speeds over Wi-Fi

Nitnendo’s new hardware supports the new internet protocol IPv6. Unfortunately, in practice, having that active as part of your Wi-Fi internet connection seems to slow speeds down by not automatically connecting to faster wireless signals. The good news is that players seem to have been able to bypass the mystery issue by going to internet settings for their network and toggling the IPv6 slot off entirely. Anecdotally, that seems to allow players to connect to 5G networking speeds. Lots of players are having issues with Wi-Fi speeds though, suggesting Nintendo might need to deploy a bigger fix in the coming weeks.

Check your Switch 2 controllers for updates

Unlike some other consoles, the Switch 2 doesn’t appear to automatically push out new updates for accessories like the Joy-Con or new Pro controller. As a result, players need go into the settings menu and occasionally check if there’s anything new to download. You can a still play games with older-version hardware, but anything that’s not fully updated could be prone to bugs or performance flaws that wouldn’t otherwise pop up.

Turn off manually unlocking the screen

The first time your Switch 2 goes into sleep mode you’ll need to pump the A button several times before the console comes back on. Turning manual off will make it so you no longer have to press the A button three times to unlock the screen. That’s a nice thing to bypass considering the Switch 2 is the tiniest bit sluggish when waking up from sleep, taking a few seconds extra to notice controller inputs. Now, if only you could turn the locked screen off entirely.

Seagate NVMe HDD

Seagate’s wild new NVMe HDDs could change data centers forever – but your PC might never get one

by admin June 6, 2025

  • Seagate NVMe HDDs may unify storage protocols, but don’t expect speed records
  • Enterprise systems might love NVMe HDDs, but gamers and creators won’t benefit anytime soon
  • NVMe brings storage consistency, but SAS still holds its ground in raw performance terms

Seagate Technology demonstrated a prototype hard drive at Computex 2025 that utilizes NVMe, a storage protocol typically found in SSDs.

According to PCwatch, the demonstration featured a combination of NVMe SSDs and HDDs using NVMe-oF (NVMe over Fabrics) to communicate over Ethernet.

While the hybrid interface showcased potential for data centers, it remains unclear whether this shift will be feasible for personal computers.

NVMe integration marks a shift in storage interfaces, not performance

Colin Pressley, Seagate’s Head of Customer Success, noted, “We have already natively integrated PCIe into our HDD controllers,” signaling a major architectural shift.

The prototype drive supports both NVMe and SAS connections, offering flexibility during what could be a lengthy transition.

However, Pressley was quick to manage expectations: “There are almost no benefits in terms of performance. The latest SAS provides sufficient performance, and just because it becomes NVMe doesn’t mean that there is a major improvement.”

For consumers searching for the best HDD, or even the fastest external HDD, NVMe support offers little immediate benefit.

Sign up to the TechRadar Pro newsletter to get all the top news, opinion, features and guidance your business needs to succeed!

The real promise lies not in speed, but in unification. With SSDs already running on NVMe, bringing HDDs under the same protocol simplifies driver requirements and software architecture.

Importantly, the NVMe-compatible HDD is not based on a proprietary standard. Instead, it follows a formalized version of the NVMe specification, which now includes commands tailored to mechanical drives, such as spin-up protocols.

This adherence to open standards increases the likelihood of broader industry adoption, especially in enterprise environments where consistency is crucial.

However, NVMe HDDs are unlikely to become available to the general public anytime soon. According to Pressley and Seagate, it may take five to ten years for hard drives to fully transition from SATA/SAS to NVMe.

That timeline mirrors previous transitions, like the shift from IDE to SATA, where new standards gradually replaced legacy interfaces.

While this progression seems inevitable for data centers, consumer desktops and laptops are a different story.

Most consumer systems today still rely on SATA for bulk storage, often pairing the largest HDD available with a faster SSD for boot and application performance.

Until motherboard chipsets eliminate SATA support altogether, a shift not expected for at least another decade, NVMe HDDs are unlikely to become mainstream in home PCs.

‘The Life of Chuck’ May Change the Way You Look at Movies and Yourself

by admin June 6, 2025

This review of The Life of Chuck, the new film by Mike Flanagan based on a novella by Stephen King, starts in 1994. I was only 14 years old, still educating myself in the world of movies, when I found myself sitting down to see this new one everyone was talking about called Pulp Fiction. As it got toward the end, however, I found myself incredibly confused. Wasn’t John Travolta’s character dead? How was he back? I may have only been a kid, but I knew I’d watched him die, and now he was alive again. It wasn’t until a little later when my formative teenage brain realized director Quentin Tarantino was telling his story out of order that I began to understand. That was something I had yet to encounter in burgeoning film fandom, and it helped turn Pulp Fiction into one of my favorite films ever.

I mention this in a review of The Life of Chuck because the first time I saw it, I had a similar reaction. The Life of Chuck is very purposefully told backwards, and when characters from the third act (which you see first) appeared in illogical ways in the first act (which you see third), it didn’t quite click. I was absolutely loving the movie, but one tiny piece was missing. Then, once that piece clicked for me, everything came together. It was a perfect puzzle that needed a touch more effort than most movies do.

That’s not to say The Life of Chuck will have the kind of infinite cultural impact Pulp Fiction did, but both films are beautiful in part because of their faith in the audience. Both are films bold enough to leave things to the imagination, to not connect every dot, and then let you figure it out for yourself. And, like Pulp Fiction, when you watch The Life of Chuck a second time—which I had the privilege of doing before writing this review—it’s like watching a new movie. You can see every piece of foreshadowing in the story. Every clue that’s subtly laced in there. And absent from any confusion, you can think about the film’s bigger intentions and choices, which is where The Life of Chuck truly shines.

Chiwetel Ejiofor and Karen Gillan in The Life of Chuck. – Neon

The Life of Chuck stars Tom Hiddleston as the title character, Charles “Chuck” Kranz, who in the first part of the film is described as “Oz of the apocalypse.” Chiwetel Ejiofor and Karen Gillan lead a wholly intriguing, provocative, and terrifying story of the end of the world, where Chuck’s image just so happens to keep popping up. Hiddleston takes over the role in the second act, which dramatizes a short but memorable moment in his life, and then the role is passed to three young actors—Cody Flanagan, Benjamin Pajak, and Jacob Tremblay—in the last third, as we see Chuck’s childhood. As the story dives deeper into who Chuck really was, Flanagan lets both the character and the audience consider the universe and our place in it.

The film is filled with mind-bending philosophical conversations about dancing, math, the universe, and more, most of which we learn as Chuck does. It’s funny, it’s sweet, and it continually keeps you on your toes. Along the way, the film asks us to never forget the first third of the movie where Chuck was the star of another story, and slowly start to work it all out. We’re watching this beautiful rumination on the simple pleasures of life, all while this large mystery of “What the hell was that?” looms over it like a cloud.

Flanagan fills his story with fantastic actors giving career-best performances. There’s Ejiofor and Gillan of course, but also Mia Sara (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off), Carl Lumbly (Captain America: Brave New World), and even Mark Freaking Hamill. All of the actors playing Chuck are delightful too, with Pajak having the largest role and thereby making the most impact. Some of these characters appear in more than one segment, but most don’t, a choice that makes a lot of sense once you understand what the film is actually doing.

“Chuck, I am your (grand) father.” – Neon

But, I have to admit, without piecing that puzzle together, The Life of Chuck does feel a little empty. It may, in fact, but a little too subtle with its intentions on a first pass. There’s a fine line with making your narrative too obvious to be powerful and too subtle to be clear, and Flanagan walks that line throughout the whole movie. However, if you watch the movie a second time, you can see it’s much less subtle than you thought on a first watch. It’s just about paying attention and remaining engaged.

The Life of Chuck is a powerful and beautiful movie. It’s filled with humor and heart, as well as incredible conversations and revelations. It’s also more than a little out there, and certainly not for everyone. When you see it for what it truly is, though, it may just change not just how you look at movies, but your own life as well.

The Life of Chuck is now playing in limited release and opens wide June 13.

For Good’ Trailer Promises Change

by admin June 5, 2025

It’s not been all that long since we were defying gravity with the release of Wicked: Part One last year, but now, we’re finally getting a glimpse of what’s next as Jon M. Chu returns us to Oz for one last time—and prepares us for a reunion that portends that we, Elphaba, and Glinda alike will all be changed by… for good.

Today, to mark Wicked‘s return to theaters for a one-day-only event, Universal has revealed the first trailer for Wicked: For Good, which will bring the second act of the iconic musical to the big screen.

Picking up where things left off at the end of Part One, with Elphaba branded a wicked enemy of the Ozian state by Madame Morrible and the Wizard as she flees from the Emerald City, leaving Glinda behind, For Good will cover Elphaba’s exploration of the magical grimmerie and her life on the run, as Glinda finds herself conflicted as she’s taken in to become a new witch in her friend’s stead.

As the events of The Wizard of Oz begin to play out, and Elphaba’s portended defeat as the Wicked Witch of the West at Dorothy and her friends’ hands, there’s going to be plenty of drama, twists, and, of course, lots of singing as we set the stage for Wicked‘s curtain close.

Wicked: For Good will see the return of Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, alongside Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Marissa Bode, Ethan Slater, and more, and is currently set to hit theaters November 21.

Ethereum (ETH) Just Lost It, XRP: Be Ready for Key Battle, Shiba Inu (SHIB): This Can Change Everything

by admin June 3, 2025

  • XRP will face it
  • Shiba Inu on edge

The recent price performance of Ethereum is not encouraging, and the cryptocurrency is perched on a precipice. ETH is trading at $2,508 ETH, and the 200 EMA is now its last hope. Ethereum has historically found strong support at the 200 EMA, but this time around, things are different. There is little indication that the bulls have what it takes to hold this level for very long, and the price action is displaying weakness.

Ethereum’s explosive rise in April and May now appears to be a fading memory when viewed on a larger chart. In a narrow channel the asset has been grinding sideways since the breakout momentum completely stopped. With ETH currently testing the channel’s lower bounds, this consolidation has finally broken down. Another concerning indicator is the lack of buying volume, which is a crucial component that has dried up and supported the pessimistic outlook.

SHIB/USDT Chart by TradingView

The 100 EMA, which is located close to the $2,250 zone, is the next reasonable target for the price to find support if ETH loses its hold on the 200 EMA. That would eliminate the bullish surge of the previous month and represent a substantial decline from current levels. Another critical psychological level is the 100 EMA; if it moves, Ethereum may be in for an even more severe correction.

Indicating that neither buyers nor sellers are really pushing, the RSI indicator is also rolling over and is presently trapped in a neutral zone. But the bears are more likely to gain control as volume slows and momentum wanes. Ethereum may be poised for a breakdown that would cause it to plummet below $2,250 and approach the 100 EMA support zone, barring a sharp spike in demand. ETH appears to have lost the battle, but the next few days will be crucial.

XRP will face it

XRP is poised on the verge of a pivotal moment that could determine its course for weeks to come. The 200 EMA, a significant long-term support level that has historically served as a strong base for the asset, is just above the $2.15 mark where XRP is currently trading. But there is a growing indication from the price action that this support is being threatened. A breakout, or breakdown, is inevitable because of the downward pressure exerted by the descending trendline that has limited XRP’s movement over the last few weeks.

You Might Also Like

For XRP the 200 EMA and the downtrend resistance line are forming a traditional battle zone, and the result will decide whether the bulls can regain ground or if the bears will take complete control. The volume profile is even more worrisome. The volume of trading has been continuously dropping, suggesting that neither party is committed. It is common for this drying liquidity to occur before a more significant move. A sharp decisive move, either a bounce or a disastrous drop, occurs when price tests a crucial level like the 200 EMA in low volume situations.

A breakout above the descending trendline at $2.20 might pave the way for a relief rally back toward $2.50 and higher if XRP can maintain this level and buyers intervene with conviction. The psychological $2 mark would be the next reasonable target followed by deeper retracements toward $1.80 if the 200 EMA finally gives way.

A possible rebound is indicated by the RSI’s precarious position just above the oversold zone. However, it is difficult to place a wager on a bullish scenario at this time without a break of the trendline and an increase in volume.

Shiba Inu on edge

The future of this well-known meme coin could be determined by the market’s next action as Shiba Inu is perilously close to the edge. Now trading close to $0.0000128, SHIB has broken through a critical descending support line, which is usually a major warning sign for additional price declines. Additionally, SHIB has firmly broken below the 50 EMA and is currently glaring down at its most recent lows, raising the possibility that it will retest the extremely low levels of early 2025.

Every attempt to recover prior support levels has been swiftly thwarted by enduring selling pressure, indicating definite bearish price action. A concerning indication that the market might not be prepared for a recovery just yet is the chart’s declining volume, which emphasizes the lack of buyers. A warning light is flashing on the RSI, which is presently hovering close to the 38 mark.

You Might Also Like

It is getting close to oversold territory, which occasionally signals a rebound, but it also points to a market that has been losing steam for weeks. The likelihood of SHIB falling even further, perhaps testing the crucial $0.0000114 level or worse, is high if sellers maintain their dominance. If buyers are able to intervene forcefully, there is a chance for a quick reversal, though.

A short-term relief rally may be triggered if volume starts to spike after the classic capitulation move of breaking the descending trendline took place. Let’s face it though: caution is definitely necessary until we witness that volume increase and a clear reclaiming of the 50 EMA. All things considered, SHIB is at a critical juncture. Ironically, this breakdown might be the last shakeout before a bounce, or it could confirm a bearish continuation.
