Can AI Crack the Cat Code? Baidu Thinks So

by admin June 25, 2025

In brief

  • Baidu has filed a patent to translate cat meows, movements, and vital signs into plain language.
  • The company says combining multiple signals could improve how humans understand pets.
  • Experts caution that true “cat translation” remains unlikely, despite AI’s progress.

For millennia, humans have wondered what their cats are trying to say. Now, a Chinese tech giant claims it might have the answer—using AI to translate meows into plain language.

Chinese tech giant Baidu filed a patent last December for a system designed to translate animal sounds—including feline meows—into human language, according to a report by Scientific American.

The company, often referred to as “China’s Google,” has been actively expanding its AI portfolio in recent years.

Baidu confirmed to Reuters last month that the project is “still in the research phase.”

The patent, published on May 8 by China’s intellectual property authority, describes collecting animal vocalizations, behavioral patterns, and physiological signals such as heart rate.

This data is then fed into an AI system to recognize the animal’s emotional state and map it to human language.

Baidu claims the approach could allow for “deeper emotional communication and understanding between animals and humans.”

AI-powered research into animal communication has surged in recent years, from studies mapping cat vocalizations with 90% accuracy to apps like MeowTalk, which claims to translate feline meows in real-time.

In May, entrepreneur Vlad Reznikov unveiled Feline Glossary Classification 2.3, a system that identifies 40 distinct cat call types with over 95% accuracy, though it has yet to undergo peer review.

The growing scientific effort to decode cats matters beyond curiosity.

As Scientific American notes, understanding feline communication could deepen human-animal bonds, improve pet welfare, and reveal how domestication shaped interspecies dialogue.

But experts remain cautious about big claims.

“The idea that we can directly translate animal languages is… kind of total nonsense,” said psychologist Kevin Coffey, who studies animal vocalizations.

Still, he acknowledges AI’s role in helping scientists better categorize and interpret animal sounds.

The beauty of Baidu’s proposed system lies in its scope. By adding body movement, temperature, and heart-rate data, it seeks to create richer context, not just decoding meows as “feed me,” but gauging emotional nuance.

In its patent filing, Baidu said that most animal translation tools rely too narrowly on either vocal cues or facial expressions, limiting their accuracy, according to a South China Morning Post report.

But significant barriers remain as patent reviews could take 1–3 years, real‑world accuracy must be proven across diverse animals and dialects, and ethical questions around data collection loom large.

Dave Bautista’s Next Franchise Play? Becoming a ‘Cat Assassin’

by admin June 14, 2025

After hanging up his daggers as Drax the Destroyer and getting got as Glossu Rabban in Dune: Part Two, Dave Bautista is stepping into video games and animation with a new franchise by the name of Cat Assassin.

The wrestler-actor and his production company Dogbone Entertainment will bring to life a new idea from Steve Lerner, who wrote 2022’s feline adventure game Stray. This would-be franchise will comprise a stealth-action video game—influenced by titles such as Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell, and Sifu—from developer Titan1Studios (Love is a Roguelike, The Events at Unity Farm) and a “neo-noir adult animated series.”

Cat Assassin focuses on Hugh, an expert killer “caught between various cartels and power brokers in a dark and twisted city.” Bautista’s part of the enterprise’s “creative vision,” but at the moment, it’s unclear if that also means he’ll lend his voice to Hugh in either animated or video game form. (His current voice work includes the upcoming Army of the Dead animated series and playing himself in WWE games since 2003.)

Titan1 has several TV and game projects in the works, so at the moment, there’s no real window on when to expect Cat Assassin. Still, in a statement on Titan1’s website Bautista called teaming with the company “a pleasure … Their ability to build worlds through animation has been so impressive and they’ve created a truly unique world in this game that I can’t wait to share with players.”

While the game is seemingly expected for release in October 2027 for PC and several consoles, including the Nintendo Switch 2, Titan1 said more details on the overall franchise’s future is expected “in the coming months.”

Dave Bautista And Stray Writer Team Up For Cat Assassin Stealth-Action Game

by admin June 13, 2025

Former WWE wrestler Dave Bautista has made a name for himself as an actor over the last decade, but now he’s moving into the video game space as a producer. Bautista and Titan1Studios have agreed to partner up to bring Cat Assassin to life as a new media franchise including an upcoming video game.

As announced on GameRant, Cat Assassin was created by Steve Lerner, the writer of the critically acclaimed indie game Stray. While that title put players in control of an adorable cat in a city of robots, Cat Assassin’s lead character, Hugh, is considerably less cuddly. He’s described as “a skilled assassin navigating a chaotic world of warring cartels and corrupt power players.” Presumably that’s a role that Bautista may be interested in playing, but the announcement doesn’t specify his involvement as an actor.

Cat Assassin takes place in a “neo-noir city populated by anthropomorphic felines.” The video game is being planned as a stealth-action game with dark humor. The announcement notes that the Cat Assassin game is inspired by Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell, and Sifu.

Bautista’s Dogbone Entertainment production company is also developing Cat Assassin as a potential animated series and a feature film. Further details about their plans for the franchise and the upcoming game aren’t currently known.

After wrapping his decade plus as Drax the Destroyer in the MCU, Bautista has expressed his interest in starring as Marcus Fenix in the Gears of War movie in development at Netflix.

Bitcoin Reclaims $110,000, Is This Dead Cat Bounce?

by admin May 26, 2025

The price of Bitcoin (BTC) has maintained strong resilience since it dropped from its all-time high (ATH) of $111,970.17. The top coin dropped as low as $106,000 but has started staging a comeback to the $110,000 resistance level. This bounce could mean many things for the market, depending on how sustainable the growth is.

Bitcoin in price discovery

Despite the reversal recorded post-all-time high, Bitcoin is in its price discovery phase. How high it can rally remains unknown, and the timeline remains unknown. At press time, the coin was changing hands at $110,057, up by 2.2% in the past 24 hours per CoinMarketCap data.

There are indications that this might be a dead cat bounce for the coin, as market bears may drag it below that level soon. However, there is already evidence that BTC whales have continued to accumulate the coin.

Bitcoin also gets massive hype from top industry leaders like Robert Kiyosaki, who has continued to advocate that users and investors should stack the coin. With longer-term holders refusing to sell, the fear of a dead cat bounce is formally allayed, as no bearish pressure is weighing down on the coin for now.

So, how high can BTC soar?

Since January, Bitcoin price has broken the ATH above $100,000 on many occasions, while the $111,000 to $112,000 range remains the level to watch, there are projections it could soar to $500,000 this year.

Entities like Samson Mow, who believes BTC will soon be worth $1 million, also make more ambitious forecasts.

The accumulation rate of BTC by institutional investors like Michael Saylor’s Strategy Inc. has already placed positive pressure on the coin. As demand continues to outweigh supply, the chance of Bitcoin breaking more ground is high in the long term.

Cat arrested in Thailand for “attacking” police officers

by admin May 25, 2025

A lost cat was arrested and had its mugshot posted online for repeatedly “attacking” police officers in Thailand after a concerned citizen found the feline on the streets.

Cats are known for their independent nature and sassy behavior, but one kitty took things to the next level after it got turned in to the fuzz.

The animal was brought into a Bangkok police station on May 9 after a good samaritan found it alone, assuming it was lost.

The silvery striped American Shorthair seemed to be someone’s pet, boasting a pink collar and a feisty personality.

Lost cat’s mugshot released after assaulting police officer in viral rescue

Officer Da Parinda Pakeesuk, a noted animal lover, decided to take the cat in… but it didn’t return his kind gesture with grace, instead biting and scratching him and several other officers on duty at the time.

In a humorous twist of events, Pakeesuk decided to ‘process’ the kitty for its heinous crimes, even posting photos taking the animal’s paw prints for police records.

The officer even added a comment to the ‘report’ on the cat’s behalf, saying, “I was just hungry. I did not mean to bite anyone.”

“This cat has been charged with assaulting police officers and is about to be detained. Please share this post so her owner can come and bail her out,” Pakeesuk wrote in a post online that’s taking Thai social media by storm.

He took the cat home for the night, providing it with food, water, and a place to rest. “She is living her best life, while the police are the true victims,” he joked.

Luckily, it wasn’t long before the cat’s owner took notice of the situation and called the police station to alert them that the criminal kitty was actually theirs.

Its name is ‘Nub Tang,’ which translates to ‘counting money’ in English — and to celebrate the high-class cat’s return to its owner, officers gave it a flowery lace collar, which they took photos of to commemorate the occasion.

This is just the latest cat to go viral online after a woman discovered that her cat had been sealed inside the wall of her apartment by maintenance workers. Luckily, she was able to rescue her pet — but no action was taken against the apartment management for the frightening ordeal.
