Batman: Arkham Knight’s cancelled follow-up resurfaces in previously unseen concept art

by admin June 23, 2025

Previously unseen concept art purportedly showing character designs from Warner Bros. Games Montreal’s cancelled Batman: Arkham Knight follow-up Project Sabbath has surfaced online, showing further glimpses of a beardy Bruce Wayne, Damian Wayne, and more.

Whispers of Project Sabbath’s existence first emerged back in 2016, with Batman: Arkham Oranges developer Warner Bros. Games Montreal said to be at the helm. Along the way, however, Project Sabbath was ditched in favour of what would ultimately become the rather middling Gotham Knights, and much of what we know about the cancelled game has been gleaned through various bits of concept art that’ve emerged over the years.

In 2019, for instance, concept art from Project Sabbath – which would supposedly see Bruce Wayne’s son Damian donning the famous cowl and cape – popped up on 4chan, showing off various elements including an older Bruce Wayne, a rundown Gotham City, Gorilla Grodd, and more. All that was accompanied by claims the game would have used Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor’s acclaimed Nemesis System. Additional concept art then emerged two years later, offering closer looks at both Bruce and Damien.

And now, yet more Project Sabbath concept art has emerged, this time from character artist Rodrigue Pralier, who worked at Warner Bros. Games Montreal circa 2014/2015. Although the Artstation page originally featuring the concepts has now been removed, the images have been saved for posterity on social media, revealing a further look at Damian Wayne and his beardy pa Bruce, alongside Killer Croc, The Huntress, and more.

New concept art from WB Games Montréal’s cancelled 2015 Damian Wayne game “Project Sabbath” has surfaced, shared by character artist Rodrigue Pralier. The pieces clearly show Damian, an older Bruce, Killer Croc, and Huntress.

Gotham Knights – the title WB Games Montreal switched its attention to after ditching Project Sabbath – did, of course, fail to generate much enthusiasm among critics and fans, and it was followed in 2024 by Arkham Knight studio Rocksteady’s Suicide: Kill the Justice League. That proved to be another Batman-adjacent flop in a year that also saw Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions underperform and the limp return of Warner’s now-cancelled MultiVersus.

At the start of this year – following several rounds of layoffs across its studios – Warner Bros. Games boss David Haddad departed the company. Just a month later Warner Bros. announced it was cancelling Monolith Productions’ long-in-the-works Wonder Woman game, closing the studio, and shutting down Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games San Diego too. Since then, it’s announced a drastic shift in leadership that’ll see it refocusing on several core brands, including Mortal Kombat, Harry Potter, DC, and Game of Thrones.

Promising Minecraft-like Hytale cancelled after ten years in development

by admin June 23, 2025

Promising Minecraft-like sandbox adventure Hytale has been cancelled after a decade of development, and creator Hypixel Studios is “winding down” its operations.

Hytale began development in 2015, and was Hypixel’s attempt at combining the mini-games found on its hugely popular eponymous Minecraft server – which has been visited by more than 18m visitors since its inception in 2013 – with its own RPG-like, Minecraft-style sandbox experience, built from the ground up. And there’s been a lot of buzz around the project for a long time, with League of Legends developer Riot Games investing millions in Hytale prior to acquiring Hypixel in 2020. But now the plug has been pulled.

Hypixel announced the “incredibly tough news” in a lengthy statement on its website. “This is not the outcome any of us – at Hypixel or at Riot – wanted,” it wrote. “But after years of pushing forward, adapting, and exploring every possible path, it became clear we couldn’t bring Hytale to life in a way that truly delivered on its promise.”

“Game development is brutally hard – especially when you’re trying to build something original that speaks to a creative, passionate community,” it continued. “Over time, as our vision evolved and the genre matured around us, the bar kept rising. Our technical ambitions grew more complex, and even after a major reboot of the game engine, the team found that Hytale still wasn’t as far along as it needed to be. It became clear we’d need a lot more time to get it to a place where it could support the ambitious vision for the game.

“We looked at reducing scope, adjusting timelines, and finding new angles to keep moving forward. But each of those options would have meant compromising on what made Hytale special in the first place. It wouldn’t have been the game we set out to make. And it wouldn’t have been the game you deserve. This is a painful decision. We still believe in Hytale. We believe in the team, and are forever grateful to every member, past or present, who poured their love into the game. We’re also incredibly proud of the work we did: the world we imagined, the risks we took, and the heart we poured into this project. None of that can be taken away. And just to clarify – this doesn’t affect the Hypixel server on Minecraft. It’s run separately from Hypixel Studios and will continue to operate as usual.”

Hypixel’s statement suggests it had attempted to “see if there were investors or acquirers who could continue to help carry Hytale forward”, but with no more funding coming from Riot and the project now dead, employees – said to number “100+” on Hypixel’s website – are being “supported with generous severance and resources to help them find what’s next”. Hypixel itself is “beginning the process of winding down… over the next few months”.

“To our community: thank you,” the statement concludes. “Your belief in Hytale kept us going through thick and thin… Even though we’re closing this chapter, the spirit of Hytale and everything we hoped it could be will stay with us. We’re proud of what we built, and we’ll carry those lessons forward into whatever comes next.”

Hypnospace Outlaw sequel Dreamsettler has been cancelled: ‘We just way overscoped’

by admin June 22, 2025

In our Hypnospace Outlaw review, Andy Kelly called it “a cyber-detective adventure set within a fictional computer operating system”, with an alternate 1999 setting let you explore a nostalgic pocket internet full of music, animations, and screensavers. “This garish low-res internet, inspired by the digital shanty towns of GeoCities, is fully realised. There are hundreds of pages to click around, split into zones that reflect the personalities of their eccentric creators. In Teentopia you’ll find edgy teenagers, nu metal, and drama. In Open Eyed, new age spiritualists and conspiracy theorists. It’s a brilliantly observed snapshot of the primordial web.”

A sequel called Dreamsettler was announced in 2022, alongside an FPS spinoff with the gloriously mangled name Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer. While Slayers X came out in 2023, Dreamsettler remained in development, with a “Coming Soon” Steam page and No More Robots attached as its publisher.

In the video announcing Dreamsettler’s cancellation, lead developer Jay Tholen is at pains to make it clear that No More Robots wasn’t behind the decision. “They didn’t pull support or anything and they did what they could to keep it going, but it’s just time to stop it,” he says. Going further into the decision he explains that a central feature of Dreamsettler’s alternate 2000s internet would have been “Oomph”, a “fake Flash” that would let players make their own looping animations synced to music, reminiscent of Hynospace Outlaw’s tune sequencer. When Oomph had to be cut to get Dreamsettler under its budget, it seems like a lot of Tholen’s motivation went with it.

“We just way overscoped,” he says. “Things were so complicated and fancy.” Earlier in the video, Tholen explains his normal creative process—before Hypnospace Outlaw, he created point-and-click adventure Dropsy—as something that sounds intuitive and incompatible with a tightly scoped and deadlined team project.

“It’s hard for me to get motivation,” Tholen says, “to find motivation to work on anything for a stretch of time. And I’ve not been able to do it this way where I have a design document and then I follow it. I have to improvise, like in Hypnospace, like I’m pretending to be a character and then making stuff and then following these trails to make new stuff. Things bloom from other things and then it becomes this big holistic thing at the end. And if I had to explain it to anyone or put it in a design document, I couldn’t do it. It just comes like a tree growing.”

Fortunately, not all of the work that went into Dreamsettlers will be lost. Things that were created for its alternate vision of the 2000s internet are already being revealed, like the “Czechimation” that posits a spread of Czech animation that found popularity in the west like anime did, complete with art, opening credits, and other snippets for imaginary shows like “Golem Master” and “Little Babi” you can see on BlueSky.

Dreamsettler, the follow-up to early internet inspired browser game Hypnospace Outlaw, has been cancelled

by admin June 22, 2025

A little over three years since it was announced, Dreamsettler, the spiritual sequel to Hypnospace Outlaw, has been cancelled. Yesterday, lead developer Jay Tholen shared a video simply titled “Dreamsettler is canceled”, where he explained some of his reasoning behind the decision. “This is not a joke, and I’m sorry everyone,” Tholen wrote in the description of the video.

After noting that he “didn’t want to make a video like this,” the developer went on to explain that Dreamsettler is cancelled, going on to say that this means “it’s not coming out, it won’t be finished. This was a mutual decision between the publisher and I. They didn’t pull support or anything, and they tried what they could to keep it going, but it’s just time to stop it.”

Watch on YouTube

He also noted how it was bad timing given that a Patreon to help keep the project going was only launched earlier this year. There are also plans to try to release the part of the game that do exist, including the soundtrack from returning composer The Chowder Man, in some shape or form.

In a short version of events, Tholan explained that with Dreamsettler, they had a budget this time, so “we tried to plan the game from the top down more or less, where we knew all the beats that would happen, and what expensive things we could afford to film or have made for the game, and how much money we could afford to pay a programmer for X amount of time.” In turn, there was a specific schedule to follow, and Tholen noted he has “never successfully made a game based on a design document.”

He later said that he thinks he’s a “hard person to work with. On a normal team, where there wasn’t some guy who needed to work a weird way, they would have finished this game, and it would have been great, but I just couldn’t get it going, you know? And it’s too late. Hopefully you all stick around, and don’t hate my guts, and hopefully we’ll talk soon.”

In the years since announcing Dreamsettlers, Tholen did also work on Slayer X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengeance of the Slayer, a boomer shooter spin-off made by the in-world Hypnospace Outlaw character Zane – former RPS staffer Liam reviewed it and had some positive but mixed feelings on it. Co-founder John Walker reviewed Hypnospace Outlaw back in the day too, coming away from it quite enamoured.

Hypnospace Outlaw sequel Dreamsettler cancelled as creator issues heartfelt statement: “maybe I’ve been burnt out this whole time”

by admin June 21, 2025

Hypnospace Outlaw developer Jay Tholen has confirmed the highly anticipated sequel, Dreamsettler, has been cancelled following a “mutual” decision between Tholen and publisher No More Robots.

“This is not a joke, and I’m sorry everyone,” Tholen wrote in the description of a YouTube video entitled: “Dreamsettler is canceled”.

“I didn’t want to make a video like this, but I’ll cut to the chase – Dreamsettler has been cancelled,” he said in the ten-minute video. “It means it’s not coming out, it won’t be finished. This was a mutual decision between the publisher and I. They didn’t pull support or anything, and they tried what they could to keep it going, but it’s just time to stop it.”

Before going into details, however, Tholen thanks everyone who had signed up to his recently launched Patreon, saying going to the crowdfunding platform was “kind of a last-ditch effort.” Refunds will be available for the most recent month’s payment.

Tholen also said that while he wasn’t currently sure “what form it’ll take”, he does intend to release more of what would have been in the game, which could possibly include a playable build. He also issued a passionate plea for studios to get in touch and offer work to the two developers who have been let go due to the cancellation.

“The very short version is: we got a budget this time, we tried to plan the game from the top down more or less, where we knew all the beats that would happen, and what expensive things we could afford to film or have made for the game, and how much money we could afford to pay a programmer for X amount of time. Because of that money […] you have to go by this schedule, and I’ve never successfully made a game based on a design document.”

He then talked about some of his favourite features of Dreamsettler, such as Oomph, a fake music sequencer, but the team “way over-scoped, things were so complicated and so fancy”.

“I’m so sorry to everyone who’s waiting for this game and expecting a big, great game,” Tholen added. “This is, like, almost five years of my life. I mean, I did make [spin-off game] Slayer X, so that was a fun diversion, but this was the big one. I had so many hopes.”

For those wondering, yes, The Chowder Man was going to return. “He recorded more music for this game than Hypnospace,” Thorlen said, “and I want to do right by the musicians too, so maybe we’ll figure out how to release their music and promote it.

“We just needed to stop this. Because of money and practical concerns, I just had to stop it. Hopefully, we can release some of it, or maybe I can write blogs – or some of the team can – and show you what we were doing because there’s a lot of cool stuff there. A lot of worthwhile stuff.”

Thorlen said he still plans to work on Slayer’s next update, with hopes to get it out early next year.

“Maybe I’ve been burnt out this whole time. I don’t know. I was able to do Slayer X, though I would like to do kids’ stuff. Stuff for children. I don’t know if it would be a video series, or an app for kids, or something. And it’s not because I think this is a great market to get into, but it’s because there are things I’ve searched for and they don’t exist, and I want to make them, just for my own kids.

“I’m sorry, everyone. This just stinks. Again, I want to emphasise the publisher did a great job, Mike and Mark did an excellent job. I think I’m a hard person to work with. On a normal team, where there wasn’t some guy who needed to work a weird way, they would have finished this game, and it would have been great, but I just couldn’t get it going, you know? And it’s too late. Hopefully you all stick around, and don’t hate my guts, and hopefully we’ll talk soon.”

We discovered Hypnospace Outlaw would be getting a sequel back in 2022. Another game, Slayer X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengeance of the Slayer – a spin-off made by the fictitious Hypnospace Outlaw character, Zane – released in June 2023.

We gave Hypnospace Outlaw a hearty Recommended when it released in 2019, writing: “A witty and smitten recreation of a time gone by, which you’ll forgive tedium if you share in the nostalgia.”

Shiba Inu (SHIB): 2 Key Levels to Watch, Dogecoin (DOGE): Mini-Golden Cross Cancelled? XRP: Massive Price Signal

by admin June 18, 2025

  • Dogecoin’s recovery stalls
  • XRP’s solid warning

The market is having trouble finding any significant support or bullish catalyst, so Shiba Inu (SHIB) is still slowly declining into uncertainty. Two crucial price levels, $0.00001167 and $0.00001061, are currently showing up as the last obstacles standing between a full recovery and a total collapse. Following several breakdowns from higher EMA zones, SHIB’s last-resort local support is currently the $0.00001167 level.

It is essential to maintain above this threshold in order to avoid a steeper drop. But the warning signs are mounting as SHIB has recently dropped below this line and is having difficulty recovering it. The level of $0.00001061, the next critical zone, is practically the bulls’ final stronghold.

SHIB/USDT Chart by TradingView

A decline below this threshold would eliminate any chance of a speedy recovery and might pave the way for SHIB’s price tag to be hit with another zero. The market structure indicates that SHIB will reach that point sooner than most people would like to acknowledge if it is unable to recover quickly. What makes this pessimistic outlook worse is the sharp decline in trading volume. In the past, low volume at support levels indicates that buyers are not very convinced. Every bounce attempt made by SHIB has been weaker, and the volume is drying up daily.

False breakouts and volatility driven by whales flourish in this setting. Additionally, technical indicators validate the pressure. Even though the 50, 100 and 200 EMA levels have now become dynamic resistance, SHIB is still well below them. Around 35, the RSI is flattening, suggesting that there is still no buying momentum even in oversold conditions. SHIB must first regain and hold above $0.00001167 with conviction and a high volume if it wishes to change direction. If it is less, $0.00001061 will probably be tested; if it does not work, things will quickly become ugly.

Dogecoin’s recovery stalls

The mini-golden cross, one of the first technical indicators for a trend reversal, is on the verge of in validation, which could jeopardize Dogecoin’s much-needed recovery. The bullish crossover between the 50 and 100 EMA, which frequently marks the beginning of an uptrend, seemed to be what DOGE was headed for on the daily chart. Unfortunately it appears that just before confirmation, the momentum stalled. The 50 EMA is curling sideways instead of continuing upward, unable to penetrate the 100 EMA. For bulls looking for long-term gains, this rejection is a warning sign.

You Might Also Like

The price of Dogecoin is declining steadily and is unable to recover important support zones, which exacerbates the situation. The next crucial support level is hiding close to $0.16, and it is currently hovering just above $0.17. The asset may experience additional losses and revert to the bearish pattern that has dogged it since late March if this line is broken. A steep drop in trading volume adds to the bearish pressure.

Volume has experienced a sharp decline since the May peak, suggesting that buyers are not as convinced. Technical structure and robust participation are both necessary for a bullish reversal, and neither is present at the moment. A further warning is that the RSI is veering toward oversold territory without displaying any indications of bullish divergence. This implies that there is not much desire for accumulation, and rallies might not last long unless new catalysts appear.

XRP’s solid warning

For both traders and investors, XRP’s recent price behavior is sending a strong warning: a retrace might be on the horizon. After a bullish breakout, the asset’s inability to sustain momentum is a clear warning sign that a fakeout has just taken place. XRP briefly jumped above important moving averages and made an attempt to breach the $2.27 resistance area, as can be seen on the chart. However, the price dropped back below the 50 and 100 EMA lines after that move swiftly lost momentum and was forcefully rejected.

You Might Also Like

This kind of failed breakout frequently indicates a bull trap, which is precisely what we are seeing right now, especially when it is accompanied by a strong wick and rising volume. The crucial signal in this case is the fakeout itself. Critical resistance levels are frequently tested by markets to determine strength, and a breakout that is abruptly reversed indicates that there is not enough conviction behind the rally.

This indicates that buyers of XRP were unprepared to maintain the momentum, which allowed bears to regain control. The RSI’s decline, which has fallen back below the 50 level and indicates waning bullish momentum, adds to the bearish pressure. Another indication that excitement is waning is the volume, which has begun to taper off after briefly peaking during the attempted breakout.

The next leg down could be severe if XRP is unable to maintain the 200 EMA or $2.09 support level. Now that level acts as the last line of defense before a more extensive retracement takes place. The recent price action may be one of the most significant fakeouts XRP has witnessed this year, setting the stage for a more significant correction unless bulls intervene with significant volume and swiftly switch sentiment.

Xbox handheld rumoured to be ‘essentially cancelled’ but the new Asus Xbox Ally is actually a preview of all future Xbox consoles, not just handhelds

by admin June 13, 2025

A new report on the Verge is claiming that the Xbox handheld console is toast. Or to quote directly, “it’s essentially canceled”. That initially seems confusing, after all hasn’t the first Xbox handheld only just been announced?

There are plenty of caveats to cover off here, not least that this is a rumour about a product that hasn’t even been confirmed to exist, let alone been launched. But there is something interesting going on that’s worth understanding.

The Asus ROG Xbox Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally handhelds announced a few days ago aren’t true Xbox devices. They’re PC handhelds using existing PC chips with a bit of a redesign, plus a new build of Windows that strips out the unnecessary gunk in order to create an OS that’s streamlined for playing games.

Related articles

And that, as it happens, is what many industry observers think the model for all future Xboxes will be. In other words, the narrative goes that Microsoft won’t make Xbox consoles itself. Instead it with partner with companies like Asus on the hardware.

To be really clear, that won’t just apply to handhelds. That’ll be for all Xbox consoles. According to this version of the future of Xbox, it’s all about retaining Gamepass subscribers. Microsoft wants to keep them while transitioning away from making hardware itself.

So, that means creating this new streamlined version of Windows and licensing out Xbox branding to third parties. Microsoft can then use emulation or even streaming to support legacy Xbox titles running on what is essentially thinly disguised but standard PC hardware powered by a tweaked version of Windows.

As the Verge says, “the next-gen Xbox platform is being built in the open, with devices like the ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X. These handhelds seem like a market test for where Microsoft goes next with the combination of Windows and Xbox, and the company’s goal to turn any screen into an Xbox.”

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

In the long run if all this is correct, it will mean gamers being able to choose from a range of different “Xbox” consoles, with price points and presumably performance to suit everyone.

Moreover, the real motivation in putting the effort in with the cut-down build of Windows and streamlined UI isn’t for handhelds, which is a very small market. It’s for this purported new generation of third-party Xboxes.

As Tom Warren says on the Verge, “I don’t think Microsoft is doing a bunch of Windows and Xbox work just to have this software running on handhelds. I think this work will give Microsoft the ability to control the console-like experience and UI on a variety of hardware, in a way where it can upsell Game Pass, its own Xbox PC games, and more.”

This bears out in something we spotted in the latest Xbox Games Showcase: Microsoft switching to ‘Xbox PC’ in all its branding and noting Steam as a competitor. It could be nothing, but it does signal a change of approach for Microsoft, Xbox, and Windows gaming.

For now, none of this is confirmed. But the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally, plus that streamlined version of Windows, definitely indicate a new direction for Xbox. We’ll be watching closely.

Portugal’s Mendes says he ‘cancelled out’ Yamal in final win

by admin June 9, 2025

Nuno Mendes backed Paris Saint-Germain teammate Ousmane Dembélé for this year’s Ballon d’Or after saying he “cancelled out” Lamine Yamal during Portugal’s UEFA Nations League final win against Spain.

A 5-3 penalty shootout win, following a 2-2 draw in Munich, sealed victory for Portugal and a tearful Cristiano Ronaldo, who had earlier limped out of the game due to injury.

Mendes was named Player of the Match after an outstanding game for Roberto Martinez’s team in which he scored his team’s opening goal before dominating in his one-on-one clash with teenage star Yamal.

And when asked about his role in Portugal’s win, Mendes admitted he had won his duel against Yamal before tipping Dembele to pip the Barcelona youngster to the Ballon d’Or.

“It was a clash [with Yamal] like many others I have had during the season,” Mendes said. “I have faced up to many great players, very technically skilled players who can make a difference, but today I cancelled out Lamine and [did] not let him do what he does best.

“This helped the team and I am happy I helped the team to win this trophy. It’s all about being consistent. I have played many good games and it’s about the work I do individually and with the coaches at PSG and Portugal.

“The Ballon d’Or? I play with Ousmane [Dembele] and he had a wonderful season, Lamine also had a wonderful season. But Ousmane will be in the Club World Cup and Lamine won’t, so I’m very happy for Ousmane.

“He had a lot of injuries at Barca before arriving at PSG, but he is an amazing player. I like him very much as a player and a man.

“I wish him the best for the Ballon d’Or and I and his teammates will help him get there.”

Mendes, meanwhile, paid tribute to Ronaldo after the 40-year-old scored the second equalising goal on the way to Portugal’s Nations League triumph. The former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus forward is expected to remain with Saudi Pro League team Al Nassr ahead of next year’s World Cup, but despite his age, Mendes said Portugal still need Ronaldo.

“We’re very happy for Cristiano to win another title,” Mendes said. “He helps us on the pitch and he also helps us off the pitch with lots of advice for all the players, including myself.

“We need him in the group. He has a great attitude and winning mentality. He is a role model for the team and the group.”

EA's cancelled Black Panther game would have featured an evolved take on Shadow of Mordor's Nemesis System

EA’s cancelled Black Panther game would have featured an evolved take on Shadow of Mordor’s Nemesis System

by admin June 3, 2025

Towards the end of last month, EA cancelled its single-player Black Panther game and closed the developer behind it, Cliffhanger Studios. At this time, an email seen by the media said this decision would enable the publisher to “sharpen our focus and put our creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities”.

Since then, a Bloomberg report has revealed a few more details from Cliffhanger Studios’ now-cancelled Marvel game, including that the project was looking to build upon ideas from Monolith’s Shadow of Mordor game, such as its Nemesis System. The Nemesis system is a clever in-game mechanic, which in Shadow of Mordor tracks a player’s actions to create enemies who remember past encounters.

Cliffhanger was going to expand on this mechanism, with playable heroes such as T’Challa, Killmonger and Shuri all competing to earn the title of Black Panther. According to the report, players would select one character to play as, with the others then becoming rivals they could build a relationship with.

Additionally, Cliffhanger’s Black Panther game would feature Marvel’s fictional race of extraterrestrial shapeshifters, the Skrulls. In the game, the Skrulls would be attempting to invade Wakanda, with some of the alien creatures posing as allies. Meanwhile, other members of the Skrulls “might have remembered the player’s behaviour and acted accordingly, sort of like in Shadow of Mordor,” the report stated, calling it an “ambitious system”.

However, despite its vision, the Black Panther developer had a hard time showcasing the game’s procedural narrative experiments, with those close to the project stating that processes were slowed due to the team building both a new game and a new studio at the same time.

Reportedly, the game had begun gaining more momentum prior to its shock cancellation, with many of those laid off only being hired within the last year. However, according to sources, EA executives had been left frustrated by the fact the game had not yet left the pre-production phase, despite it being in the works for nearly four years.

While EA may have cancelled its Black Panther Project, the company still has an Iron Man game in the pipeline. In October 2022, EA signed a multi-game deal with Marvel.

Away from EA, Amy Hennig’s own Black Panther-starring game is also still in development. Known as Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, the upcoming release is slated for next year, and will focus on four central characters: a young Steve Rogers, AKA Captain America; Azzuri, T’Challa’s grandfather and the WWII-era Black Panther; Gabriel Jones, a US soldier and member of the Howling Commandos; and Nanali, a Wakandan spy embedded in Occupied Paris.

Switch 2 US preorders reportedly cancelled by major retailers

by admin June 2, 2025

A number of would-be customers across the pond in the United States have experienced unexpected Switch 2 cancellations.

Posts on the likes of reddit and social media platform X show several patrons have had their Switch 2 orders cancelled from retailers such as Walmart and Target.

Mario Kart World Hands-On Preview: Is It Good? Watch on YouTube

“Just checked because I [saw] a post on X from Wario64 and it was about [making] sure payment is and all is good to go for when they are ready to ship.. I [checked] and my order got cancelled two days ago,” reads one reddit post titled Target cancelled my order. According to replies, the original poster is not the only one this has happened to.

Another post – Did anyone else’s Switch 2 preorder get cancelled out of nowhere? – shared on the Walmart subreddit said the same thing. “I just got an email saying it was canceled due to a payment error even though it was the same card I preordered it with,” it reads.

Even more examples of these Switch 2 cancellations can be found on X. “Walmart you have failed me for cancelling my switch 2 preorder when my payment method is valid and has funds available, give it back,” one poster wrote over the weekend.

While Walmart and Target seem to be the main retailers in the US to have cancelled Switch 2 orders, GameStop has also been namechecked online, although the problem doesn’t appear to be as widespread.

These reports follow last week’s news here in the UK, which saw retailer GAME admit it had cancelled a number of Switch 2 online pre-orders, with just days to go before the highly anticipated console’s release. At this time, GAME said it was aiming to “reinstate as many affected pre-orders as possible”.

The Switch 2 is set to release later this week, on 5th of June. Eurogamer’s former EIC Tom Phillips has already been hands-on with Nintendo’s upcoming console. You can read his Switch 2 impressions here.
