Russian Truck-Based Crypto Mine Busted for Power Theft in Buryatia

by admin June 14, 2025

Authorities in Russia’s Republic of Buryatia have uncovered an illegal cryptocurrency mining operation hidden inside a KamAZ truck siphoning electricity meant for a nearby village.

Discovered during a routine power line inspection in the Pribaikalsky District, the unauthorized setup was drawing electricity from a 10-kilovolt line, enough to supply a small village, according to Russian state-owned news agency TASS.

Inside the truck, inspectors found 95 mining rigs and a mobile transformer station. Two individuals believed to be connected to the operation fled the scene in an SUV before police arrived.

This marks the sixth case of electricity theft linked to crypto mining in Buryatia since the start of the year, Rosseti Siberia’s Buryatenergo unit said. Authorities have warned that illegal connections are disrupting local grids, causing voltage drops, overloads, and potential blackouts.

Russia bans crypto mining in some regions

Mining is prohibited across most of Buryatia from Nov. 15 to March 15 due to regional energy shortages. Outside of that window, only registered companies in designated districts such as Severo-Baikalsky and Muisky are allowed to mine.

The crackdown comes amid broader federal restrictions. In Dec. 2024, Russia announced a ban on mining during peak energy months in several regions, including Dagestan, Chechnya, and parts of eastern Ukraine currently under Russian control.

A full ban has already been enforced in the southern Irkutsk region since April.

Major Russian mining industry firms like BitRiver rely on cheap electricity in Irkutsk. According to local sources, the Irkutsk region hosts the first and largest data center by BitRiver, which was launched in 2019 in Bratsk.

Hacker group targets Russians to mine crypto

Kaspersky has linked the hacker group known as “Librarian Ghouls” or “Rare Werewolf” to a cryptojacking campaign that compromised hundreds of Russian devices. The group used phishing emails posing as legitimate documents to spread malware and gain control of systems for unauthorized crypto mining.

Once infected, the malware disables Windows Defender and schedules the compromised devices to operate between 1 am and 5 am, a tactic designed to avoid detection.

During this window, hackers establish remote access, steal login credentials, and assess system specs to configure their miners efficiently.

Dune Awakening PvP is being dominated by one busted technique – crushing people with helicopters

by admin June 13, 2025

Dune Awakening is currently in the primordial ooze phase of its PvP meta, as players hit the end game and figure out which weapons and strategies are the best for taking out their fellow man. In this soup they’ve discovered a busted technique that’s strong – so strong that the developers are stepping in to fix it.

That technique is repeatedly landing your orniphopter (the Dune equivalent of a helicopter) onto someone until they die. You see, a player packing a pistol or powerful rifle may be able to outshoot a foe on foot, but these weapons won’t do much against a vehicle.

While a buggy or bike can be avoided by climbing to higher ground, an orniphopter crushing from above is significantly harder to avoid. Add on top of this the fact that landing on a player doesn’t damage the vehicle in any way, and you’ve got an ammoless, largely skilless method of taking out any player you find in a PvP environment.

Check out the latest cinematic trailer for Dune Awakening here!Watch on YouTube

This scenario is perfectly captured by Bombe18 on the Dune Reddit, who provided a video of them being repeatedly crushed in the Deep Desert. What’s particularly funny about this video is the pilots appear to be letting Mr Bombe18 self revive each time before crushing them again.

Later in the video, another orniphopter flies over and joins in, at which point Bombe uses the in-game proximity voice chat to concede defeat. To this surrender, the pilots silently continue to crush Bombe.

In the replies to this video, Funcom’s very own CCO Joel Bylos responded to say: “Yeah sorry about this. We have people working on fixing the goomba stomping ASAP.”

Dune developpers, I agree to have a defeat in PVP. But been crushed by orni that do not take any damage. No.

So there are multiple ways of looking at this. Let’s start at the obvious. This is quite funny. Not for Bombe, or anyone else on the receiving end of orniphopter “goomba stomping”, but for those watching it happen. Especially the pilots, one can only assume.

But it probably isn’t healthy for the game either. One could argue, as I was initially inclined, that the game provides weapons better suited for dealing with vehicles. The missile launcher is the obvious example.

But, then again, should every Dune Awakening player have to pack a missile launcher for a trip to the Deep Desert, lest they end up like Romano in ER? The answer is probably no.

You could also argue that the game has only been out for a short while, and its substantial playerbase could have adapted to the orniphopter crushing strategy with techniques of their own. Perhaps widespread adoption of the missile launcher, sure. Or maybe a standard practice of keeping a bike in your vehicle storage, so that you can quickly drop a bike and hop on it before you get stuck in the great limbo of orniphotercide.

This would be more convincing if crashing into people from above was an intended use of the orniphopter, and not an obvious oversight. Bylos’ quick response and promise to remedy the situation reveals this to be true. So, as funny as it is to watch videos of Dune Awakening Goomba stomps happen, the sooner this technique is banished from the game the better.

Ex-GTA Producer’s New Game Is A Busted Mess At Launch

by admin June 11, 2025

MindsEye is the first new game from longtime Grand Theft Auto producer Leslie Benzies and his studio Build A Rocket Boy, and it’s not going well. After tons of pre-launch red flags, the techno thriller shooter is now out in the wild and suffering all the day-one woes: bugs, poor optimization on PC, and underlying gameplay that early players say is barely passable for a big release in 2025. “Build A Rocket Boy, I genuinely wanted you to pull this off,” wrote one Steam user. “Sadly, this game plays like crap.”

How Alan Wake 2 Builds Upon The ‘Remedy-Verse’

With fewer than 1,000 reviews on Steam and only 40 percent of them positive, MindsEye, is already facing an uphill battle as developers race to push out patches on console and PC that might address some of the biggest issues. Issues like facial animation glitches, unresponsive NPCs, and full game crashes. The game has peaked at around 3,000 concurrent on Steam so far, which is where Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was less than a month after launch. “I refuse to believe this game went through actual playtesting,” wrote another Steam user. “It’s not possible.”

MindsEye follows ex-soldier Jacob Diaz, a man with a mysterious implant who’s losing his mind. He heads to the Vegas-inspired near-future city of Redrock to unravel what’s happening to him and engage in all sorts of intrigue, action, and open-world driving. Despite obvious comparisons to Grand Theft Auto, given the large map and third-person view, its more akin to a Mafia game in that if you go off the beaten path you will not actually encounter all that much. It’s a big world but an empty one, propelled by a cutscene-heavy story campaign that takes up to 15 hours.

Many were hoping MindsEye would end up being an AA shooter that punched above its weight. In reality, players feel like it was rushed out. Some are getting refunds and wondering if MindsEye will become another Cyberpunk 2077 situation, where PlayStation removes it from the store until its fixed. The official Discord temporarily shut down emoji reactions to corral some of the negativity, while people are sharing clips of the game’s almost mesmerizingly bonkers car chases. One sponsored streamer who was paid to promote the game kept breaking down laughing, even when trying to read the outro telling viewers where they could download it.

The day-one disaster comes with day-one reviews, because neither Build A Rocket Boy nor publishing partner IO Interactive provided advance review code to press or content creators. Build A Rocket Boy’s co-CEO Mark Gerhard blamed pre-launch leaks and negativity on social media bots that he heavily implied were paid for by Rockstar Games. Chief Legal Officer Riley Graebner and Chief Financial Officer Paul Bland announced they were leaving the company on LinkedIn just days before the game was coming out. Meanwhile Benzies, the game’s director, gave an interview where he talked about a 10 year plan revolving around user-created content that would make MindsEye just the first piece of a sprawling, hyper-realistic Roblox-like community.

That boardroom-tested marketing pitch seems more imperiled then ever, even if some players maintain that MindsEye itself could be turned into a somewhat decent game with enough post-launch patches. Now all eyes are on update 3, which the developers have promised to provide more details about soon. “Our engineering team are working around the clock to improve performance on mainstream hardware as well as consoles by integrating the performance improvements in Unreal Engine V5.6,” a message on the subreddit reads. “We will provide patch 3 update timing, including these improvements, within the next 24 hours.”

Some in the game’s Discord don’t seem entirely convinced. “Everyone I know on console refunded. They will regret not waiting for update 3!” wrote one. Although not all are so pessimistic. Says another, “Update 3 is COMING at a rapid rate, the haters are scared of GTA getting competition again. Mindseye will Succeed where Saints Row failed.”
