Blood Message wows in reveal trailer

by admin June 20, 2025

Just when you think the day is done with gaming news, this happens. I’m quite happy with this though. NetEase Games and 24 Entertainment have unveiled their upcoming Unreal Engine 5 game in Blood Message. It looks like a wonderful mix of Uncharted and Assassin’s Creed Shadow, and is absolutely gorgeous. Take a look at the trailer below, alongside some more info.

Guangzhou, China and Los Angeles, United States, June 19, 2025 – NetEase Games and 24 Entertainment 临安 (Lin’an)  Studio today unveiled Blood Message, a cinematic, single-player, linear story-driven action-adventure currently in development for PC and consoles. Powered by Unreal 5 Engine and enhanced with proprietary tools and technologies by the studio, Blood Message is NetEase Games’ first AAA single-player title, blending brutal survival combat with profound Eastern storytelling.Blood Message introduces a forgotten odyssey of loyalty and survival where players join Dunhuang’s uprising, taking control of a nameless messenger and his young son in this immersive third-person action-adventure. Caught in the crossfire of a righteous uprising and driven by loyalty to both family and country, players will embark on a perilous eastward journey to deliver a message that holds the fate of their war-torn homeland. Amidst the shifting sands of history, they will etch a final tale of loyalty. Set during the final years of the Tang Dynasty, players will traverse a treacherous 3,000-li (around 1,000 miles) odyssey back to Chang’an, the heart of the Tang Empire. Cross lethal landscapes including desolate deserts and the vast wilderness of East and Central Asia to survive brutal sieges, unforgiving terrain, and overwhelming odds. The game’s setting in the last years of the Tang Dynasty provides a cultural landmark of Chinese history that frames the story with customs, culture, and rich history of the era.Blood Message Key Features:Narrative-driven gameplay anchored in cinematic storytellingVisceral, realistic combat blending stealth and survival mechanicsA deeply emotional journey exploring themes of family, honor, sacrifice, and cultural identityExpansive landscapes inspired by the diverse terrains of East and Central Asia, such as Dunhuang (敦煌)How can countless ordinary people—smaller than dust—leave a mark on history? The Blood Message development team offers this answer: The remembrance and praise of future generations become their eternal monument. The game invites players to step into the shoes of unsung heroes—not emperors or generals—but ordinary people driven by extraordinary resolve. As part of a righteous uprising in Shazhou, Dunhuang, the father and son must navigate a collapsing world, torn between duty to country and love for family. When history forgets, warriors remember. The world has heard too many stories of emperors and generals—Blood Message is an ode to the unsung heroes.“We are ushering players into a new generation of high adventure with Blood Message,” said Zhipeng Hu, Lead Producer and NetEase Executive Vice President. “As our first completely single-player focused experience from NetEase Games, after two decades of deep dedication to the gaming industry, we are prepared to deliver a truly epic and cinematic experience for players around the world.”For more information about Blood Message please visit www.blood-message.com. Follow Blood Message on YouTube | X

The Blood of Dawnwalker is vampire Witcher, and it looks rad in its latest gameplay trailer

by admin June 9, 2025

The Blood of Dawnwalker is a title many fans of The Witcher series have had an eye on even before it was given its name. That’s because it comes from Rebel Wolves, a team of CD Projekt Red veterans, and one that revealed its presence back in 2022.

Even before the action RPG was properly revealed, Witcher publisher Bandai Namco signed Rebel Wolves’ first game, which no doubt carries a certain level of trust in the project. The game was actually revealed earlier this year, and we just had a a fresh look at it this week.

As part of the Xbox Games Showcase, we got treated to a new gameplay trailer for The Blood of Dawnwalker, the open-world action RPG from former CDPR creatives. The footage is almost entirely gameplay, showing the Unreal Engine 5 project in action.

Though its Witcher inspirations are clear, the flow of combat appears to be a lot; faster and more fluid. It’s going to be very interesting to see how much of the vampiric powers come into play compared to how often Witcher powers were used in those games.

But, if the trailer you’re about to watch doesn’t quite sell you on it, Rebel Wolves is hosting a proper gameplay reveal event on Saturday, June 21 at 12pm PT, 3PM ET, 8pm UK on Twitch.

Watch on YouTube

The Blood of Dawnwalker may not be the easiest name to remember, but the game very much looks like a Witcher with vampire powers. It takes place in Europe in a fictionalised version of the 14th-century Black Death bubonic plague.

Vampires use the chaos to emerge as a new power and reclaim their lost rule. In this first chapter, we play as Coen, a human-turned Dawnwalker who can navigate both the realms of night and day.

Rebel Wolves promises strong elements of choice and consequence, and the ability to carve a path that will test your conviction to humanity against all the good you can do with the powers of a vampire.

The Blood of Dawnwalker comes out 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

How to get and use Blood Purifier in Dune Awakening

by admin June 9, 2025

While trying to survive in the scorching hot sands of Arrakis in Dune Awakening, your water discipline becomes imperative, especially when dehydration causes you to lose health, making you an easy target for enemies.

There are multiple sources of getting water in Dune Awakening, but the most reliable one that you’ll find in the early game is by using the Blood Purifier. The building converts the blood of your enemies into pure drinking water, and it can be a valuable addition to your base.

How to unlock and build the Blood Purifier in Dune Awakening

The Blood Purifier in Dune Awakening unlocks after you put in research points under the Journey: Blood from water tab, which is the fourth tab. You must unlock everything before the Blood Purifier, including the Exsanguination kit that helps you extract blood from the dead enemies and store it.

After you have progressed through the tutorial to unlock and research the Exsanguination kit, craft it along with the Blood Sack. Now, you’re ready to defeat some enemies, and you can use your Exsanguination kit on the dead ones to extract their liquid into your sack. Once you’re done, go back to your base with 70 Salvaged metal collected from the machines near you. You can now put a point to unlock the Blood Purifier and build it using your construction builder, and make your way to the Refineries menu to find the building.

Before using the Blood Purifier, ensure your base has a stable power source, as the Blood Purifier requires 10 energy to function properly. Once you have enough electricity, use the Energy calls to power the Blood Purifier in your base. Press E to activate it and deposit the blood from your sacs. The blood will now slowly turn into water that you can press F to drink whenever you want to raise your hydration levels.

You can deposit up to 6,000 ml of blood and convert and store 1,000 ml at a time. Continue to consume it to allow your Blood Purifier to transform your blood into water for optimal hydration. You can also manage the Blood Purifier to enable or disable it, saving Energy. You can also adjust some general settings to ensure that nobody else can use your buildings to hydrate themselves.

There are other sources to increase your water intake, such as Dew Flowers, but you should not consume too much of it, as it can cause nausea. In the later stages, you can also craft better clothes, which should have the ability to recycle your drained water and restore some immediately to prevent the hydration from dropping too frequently.

Next up, you can read our guides to know about Dune Awakening’s Twitch drops and system requirements.

New Game of the Week! Acts of Blood is a violent brawler inspired by The Raid & Sleeping Dogs

by admin June 2, 2025

The art of hand-to-hand combat has been captured in many different games over the years, but Acts of Blood is on the way to ratchet up the violence. Dropping a splash of Indonesian cinema into the bloody mix, it aims to mirror the bone-snapping brutality of The Raid, The Night Comes for Us, and many others.

The Raid stands tall 14 years on as one of the finest action flicks ever made, and its many follow-ups and spinoffs have been delightfully devious watches too.

There’s an indescribable tenacity to Indonesian cinema, a degree of realistic violence that’s so innately disturbing yet so engrossing you can’t help but be glued to the screen.

Despite being cultural landmarks for the region, none have attempted to bring that same ferocity to video games. At least, until now that is. Enter Acts of Blood.

What is Acts of Blood?

With the violence of Indonesian cinema at its core, Acts of Blood layers hard-hitting third-person melee systems to deliver a knockout of a brawler. It’s designed for casual players to make it through, while providing enough depth in its combat mechanics to allow for deadly combos and lethal power moves.

Set in the creator’s city of Bandung, the game follows Hendra on a quest for revenge. It’s a plot typified by the genre where our star takes matters into his own hands, hunting down those who wronged him one by one.

Hand-to-hand combat takes center stage, with Hendra skillfully dispatching waves of criminals by separating them from consciousness, snapping their bones, or smacking them into deadly objects in the environment. One level at a time, one boss at a time, you will punish those who made you hurt.

Set to be released in Summer 2026, Acts of Blood will launch with a litany of customization options, collectibles to track down, and a highly replayable arena mode.

Dexerto caught up with the game’s solo developer, Farjul, to learn all about it.

What the devs say about it

Working solo gave Farjul freedom

“I’ve been making games since junior high school back in 2010, but once I started working professionally in a game studio, things changed. The creative freedom I had as a solo developer wasn’t there anymore.

“In January 2024, something just clicked. I decided to start a new personal project, Acts of Blood. Since then, what began as a learning experiment has evolved into the full game I’m building today.

“I started this project purely because I wanted to reignite that passion I used to have when making things on my own.”

Eksil TeamYou’re a one-man army taking down warehouse-fulls of enemies.

Recreating the city of Bandung

“We don’t often see our cities, culture, or everyday environment represented in games, so I wanted to change that, even if just in a small way.

Article continues after ad

“It’s not an exact 1:1 recreation [of Bandung], but I try to capture the atmosphere, the feel of the streets, the architecture, and little details people from here will recognize. This is my way of paying tribute to my hometown while also giving players around the world a glimpse of a city beyond just our capital, Jakarta, which most other Indonesian games tend to be based on.

“Besides representing my hometown on a global scale, the city also fits well with the game’s plot, vibe, and atmosphere. Bandung is known for its cooler weather due to frequent rain compared to other cities in Indonesia. I wanted the game’s color palette to lean toward bluish tones with red accents, which fits perfectly.”

Eksil TeamActs of Blood is set in Farjul’s city of Bandung.

“The city’s biome is also more varied. Bandung blends a bustling urban environment with natural mountainous areas. From a game design perspective, this makes it easier to create diverse level environments so players won’t get bored with repetitive cityscapes.”

Violent gameplay inspired by Sleeping Dogs and The Raid

“I’m a huge fan of Gareth Evans’ and Timo Tjahjanto’s action films, and this game is basically my love letter to their work.

“We’re aiming to replicate the brutal combat and raw energy of those movies. We’ve been upfront with our publisher and other partners that we’re going all-in on violence, and they’ve been supportive.”

“Our animator, David, actually attended a silat workshop in Bali led by Yayan Ruhian (one of the actors/stuntmen from The Raid), so I think our team has the experience and passion to stay true to the spirit of those films.

“Our core combat system is inspired by Sleeping Dogs, which uses strike, counter, and finisher mechanics. However, Sleeping Dogs’ strike combos are a bit too simple. Mostly relying on tapping or holding a single attack button. That’s where Sifu comes in. We’ve added some of its complexity in attack button variations to deepen the combat.”

Article continues after ad

“The goal is to let casual players enjoy the game easily while giving more advanced players deeper combos to explore.

“Weapons are used sparingly. Guns only appear in specific areas where gunplay is required. They can also be used as melee weapons, you can actually swing a rifle at an enemy, which is a unique touch in our game.

“Since this is my first big project, I’m keeping the scope manageable. The story will be a brief, intense revenge narrative that lasts a few hours. But we’re adding achievements, collectibles, and arena modes to extend replayability.”

Plans for a follow-up

“As for the future, we do have plans. If things go well, I’d love to make a sequel that takes the concept into a small-scale open world, packed with content. Something closer to the Yakuza series. But that’s a story for another time.”

Blood Ties by Christie Golden announced by Random House Worlds

by admin May 25, 2025

A new novel for World of Warcraft has been announced by the acclaimed author Christie Golden. World of Warcraft: Blood Ties is the official prequel novel for the upcoming Midnight expansion:

This November, Random House Worlds, an imprint of Random House, a division of Penguin Random House, will publish WORLD OF WARCRAFT®: BLOOD TIES by award-winning and New York Times bestselling author Christie Golden.

Officially licensed by Blizzard Entertainment, WORLD OF WARCRAFT®: BLOOD TIES is an original prequel novel to the highly anticipated World of Warcraft®: Midnight game expansion, the second chapter in the Worldsoul Saga. Written by revered World of Warcraft® author Christie Golden, this novel chronicles the journey of Arator the Redeemer, son of High Exarch Turalyon and the legendary Alleria Windrunner, as he embarks on a journey investigating rumors of a strange glow emanating from the ruins of a long abandoned Legion base, which leads him to uncover more about himself, his parents, and their heroic legacy.

WORLD OF WARCRAFT®: BLOOD TIES will release on November 18, 2025, and is available for pre-order wherever books are sold. The official book description can be found below.

ABOUT WORLD OF WARCRAFT®: BLOOD TIES

Arator the Redeemer was born to heroism. The son of High Exarch Turalyon and the legendary Alleria Windrunner, Arator has long borne the weight and expectations of their legacy . . . a legacy he inherited as a babe, the day his parents disappeared through the Dark Portal.

Alleria and Turalyon’s journey took them farther afield than they’d intended. While their absence spanned mere decades on Azeroth, the heroes experienced a thousand years at war against the Burning Legion—a demonic army seeking the destruction of all worlds. When at last they reunited with their son, Arator was a man grown, pledged to the very order of paladins for which they had once fought. The Legion fell quickly in a decisive final battle, yet the millennium of distance between the family was less easily conquered.

Now, on the other side of recent events in Khaz Algar, Arator embarks on a new journey, investigating rumors of a strange glow emanating from the ruins of a long-abandoned Legion base. Turalyon and Alleria volunteer to assist, eager to eliminate their ancient enemy before it can threaten their world anew. As the family delves further into the mystery, Arator works to reconcile his parents’ heroic legacy with the flawed people he has come to know. He sees both of his parents in himself: his father’s high standards, his mother’s intellect, their unwavering commitment to the defense of Azeroth. But Arator exists at the conflux of their greatest strengths and weaknesses—weaknesses that are revealed as the demonic threat proves to be a former lieutenant of the Burning Legion, intent on using Azeroth to launch a new campaign of destruction.

Blood Bowl 3 is getting a bloody big update with a new Khorne team

by admin May 24, 2025

Blood Bowl 3 is getting a new team, though perhaps one more interesting in collecting skulls than actually scoring goals. Announced during today’s Warhammer Skulls event, Khorne is making his gorey debut to the field with a new faction, all wearing red, and all out for blood.

Available on June 10, the Khorne team is going to appeal to those who like rolling attack die and filling up the opponent’s bench with injured or dead players. Most units come with frenzy dice, which allow you to attack twice in a row. It’s a knife sharp on both ends though, as you must attack twice, meaning you may unintentionally punch your way into a bad position.

In addition, Blood Bowl 3 is currently having a massive sale on Steam. You can grab the game right now with a 60% discount on all platforms. In addition, as of May 29, players can head to the store and get a dedicated Khorne coach for free. So, if you’re really keen, you can get some blood god support from the sidelines ahead of the actual team coming to the game. Even mindless warriors need tips and support, y’know?

Are you excited for Blood Bowl 3’s new Khorne team? Let us know below, as well as whether or not this substantial sale will tempt you into grabbing the game at last.

Most players ‘know next to nothing about how games are made’: New Blood devs sound off on gamedev misconceptions

by admin May 23, 2025

Hang out with a game developer in a casual setting for an hour and the topic of gamedev misconceptions is bound to come up. It’s always fun to explain what people get wrong about your job, especially if it could lead to fewer misguided assumptions and mean comments on the internet.

Such was the goal of a monster feature interviewing 32 game developers published today at GamesRadar, which included several choice quotes from New Blood, the indie studio known for modern throwbacks like Dusk, Ultrakill, and Gloomwood.

Pulling no punches as usual, New Blood CEO Dave Oshry said that most players “know next to nothing about how games are made,” adding that game development teams have more in common with film and TV production than you’d think.

You may like

“With the exception of solo devs, games are an artistic endeavor that require the cooperation of handfuls, dozens, hundreds or even thousands of people at once working together to create interactive art,” Oshry said. “You can put all the great programmers, artists, animators and sound designers you want in the same building but that doesn’t mean they can make a great game. Great games are made by great teams that work great together. It helps when they’re all friends, too.”

I think most fans understand that it takes a village, but Oshry is also speaking to the surface-level chatter surrounding new games or studios as they’re first announced, the roots of which often begin with the studios themselves. There’s nothing a new outfit with big investors loves more than highlighting all the successful games its employees have collectively worked on, but that has almost nothing to do with what they’ll eventually make together. How many studios “founded by ex-Blizzard devs” have come and gone over the years?

The idea is to sell a studio’s immense talent so you can attract other talent, which is reasonable and important, but who’s to say if that talent will gel together? That’s the hardest part, according to Oshry, and exceedingly rare.

I rate that one a 5/10 on the misconception scale, but Oshry’s cohort David Szymanski had a spicier take that I subscribe to. The man behind Dusk and Iron Lung is tired of seeing “dev laziness” used as “a blanket explanation for missing/buggy features or seemingly hacky implementation.”

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

“These decisions are nearly always driven by an unseen web of more complex issues and/or external pressure,” he said.

Not an especially spicy observation, but then Szymanski went on to say that, in some instances, the accessibility of game dev tools these days has become “a bit of a double-edged sword” when complaints start flooding in.

“It’s now very easy to acquire enough knowledge to make broad incorrect assumptions about how easy a given task should be,” Szymanski said.

You know, that does sound annoying—8/10 misconception. It’s one level of irritation when someone with absolutely no background in your field makes a wild assumption, but it’s way worse when someone believes they know just enough to tell you how it’s done. When your favorite game is missing a feature that you believe should be there by now, there’s always that one guy who gets 5,000 upvotes on Reddit with a post titled “As a game developer, don’t let them fool you, this should be easy as hell.”

Similarly, Helldivers 2 and Palword devs had some words for fans who intuitively believe that big features can be made within days or weeks when they actually take months. The whole feature’s packed with quotes like that, so make sure to check out the full thing over at GamesRadar.
