Bitcoin Treasury Demand is Weakening, CryptoQuant Cautions

by admin September 8, 2025

Good Morning, Asia. Here’s what’s making news in the markets:

Welcome to Asia Morning Briefing, a daily summary of top stories during U.S. hours and an overview of market moves and analysis. For a detailed overview of U.S. markets, see CoinDesk’s Crypto Daybook Americas.

Bitcoin treasury companies were the talk of the town during the recent BTC Asia conference in Hong Kong, and onchain data shows they hold more than ever in their virtual coffers, but a new report from CryptoQuant highlights that they are being a bit more cautious in their crypto buys.

CryptoQuant data shows aggregate BTC treasury holdings hit 840,000 BTC this year, led by Strategy with 637,000 BTC.

Yet the average purchase size has collapsed: Strategy bought just 1,200 BTC per transaction in August, while other firms averaged 343 BTC. Both figures are down 86% from early 2025 highs, signaling smaller, more hesitant buys that suggest liquidity constraints or waning conviction.

The numbers show a striking divergence. Transaction activity is near record levels, 53 deals in June and 46 in August, but each deal involves far less bitcoin.

Strategy acquired only 3,700 BTC in August compared to 134,000 BTC at its peak last year, while other treasury firms slipped to 14,800 BTC from highs of 66,000 BTC.

(CryptoQuant)

The decline in average deal size suggests treasuries are still active but unwilling to commit large blocks of capital, reflecting both liquidity constraints and a more cautious market psychology.

All of this should be considered a concern for investors, as BTC’s price growth in the second quarter of the year was largely driven by accumulation by treasury companies, CoinDesk Indices data shows.

By late August 2025, institutions were absorbing more than 3,100 BTC a day against just 450 mined, creating a 6:1 demand-supply imbalance that underscored how relentless institutional buying was driving bitcoin’s price higher, CoinDesk reported at the time.

This slouching demand raises the risk that the current price strength may be less sustainable if treasuries continue buying cautiously rather than at scale.

That’s not to say that there isn’t growth in the BTC Treasury sector. It’s just smaller.

Bitwise reports that 28 new treasury companies were formed in July and August alone, collectively adding more than 140,000 BTC.

Meanwhile, Asia is emerging as the next front for digital asset treasury companies as Taiwan-based Sora Ventures has launched a $1 billion fund to seed regional treasury firms, with an initial commitment of $200 million.

Unlike Metaplanet, Asia’s largest public treasury firm with 20,000 BTC on its balance sheet, Sora’s vehicle will pool institutional capital to support multiple entrants.

Whether Asia’s new wave offsets the shrinking bite sizes of incumbents in accumulation is now the central question for the next phase of bitcoin adoption – and where the price is going.

Market Movement

BTC: Bitcoin remains resilient around the $110K–$113K range, supported by expectations of Federal Reserve rate cuts, increasing institutional inflows via ETFs, and improved market sentiment amid macroeconomic uncertainty

ETH: Ethereum is trading near the $4,300 level. Its short-term weakness, with a 3.8% weekly decline, is ascribed to ETF outflows and seasonal subdued trading in September. However, longer-term outlook remains positive, buoyed by institutional interest, growing staking activity, and speculative forecasts targeting $4,600–$5,000 if resistance breaks

Gold: Gold is rallying to record levels amid a combination of weak U.S. jobs data, heightened Fed easing expectations, a soft U.S. dollar, political and economic uncertainty, and continued central bank accumulation of bullion.

Nikkei 225: Asia-Pacific stocks mostly rose Monday, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 up 1.5% after Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba resigned following pressure from his election defeat.

Shiba Inu (SHIB) Biggest 2025 Breakout Is Around, Bitcoin (BTC) Recovery Failed, Ethereum (ETH): Worst Since Hitting $4,000?

by admin September 8, 2025

The market might be on the verge of a big volatility surge in the next few weeks. Shiba Inu is forming a breakout pattern, Bitcoin might hit new lows quite soon, and Ethereum is in its worst state since it climbed back above $4,000.

Shiba Inu: Steady and ready

One of the biggest breakouts of SHIB in 2025 may be on the horizon as the asset coils tighter within a symmetrical triangle. Since the middle of August, the pattern has been developing with higher lows and lower highs combining to form a condensed range around $0.00001236. For SHIB traders, the next few days are crucial because these setups usually resolve with significant volatility.

SHIB/USDT Chart by TradingView

  • A verified breakout above the upper trendline would put immediate resistance at $0.00001297 (100-day EMA) on the bullish side. If there is a significant volume clearing this level, SHIB may move toward the 200-day EMA at $0.00001388.
  • The $0.00001450-0.00001500 region, last observed in July where prior rejection initiated the current downtrend, could even be tested by a more vigorous rally. The larger structure would shift back in favor of bulls if momentum continued above these levels.
  • On the other hand, the triangle may break downward if SHIB is unable to maintain its base close to $0.00001200. The first support would be $0.00001150, and bears would then have the chance of retesting the $0.00000950 zone, which hasn’t been seen since the early summer.

Indecision is highlighted by technical indicators. The neutral configuration is highlighted by the RSI, which is at 47 and neither overbought nor oversold. As the breakout direction is determined, volume has been steadily declining during the consolidation, which is a classic prelude to a big move.

All things considered, Shiba Inu is getting closer to the summit of a significant triangle. For confirmation, traders should keep a close eye on $0.00001297 on the upside and $0.00001200 on the downside. SHIB’s largest move of 2025 might be a bullish breakout, which could rekindle retail enthusiasm if momentum pushes it toward the mid-$0.00001400s.

Bitcoin reversal limited

Recent attempts by Bitcoin to recover have failed, suggesting that the post-sell-off bounce may already be at its limit. Bitcoin failed to overcome this crucial resistance once more after rallying to retest the $112,000 area, leaving the larger structure open to additional declines.

Due to its location just below the 50-day moving average (blue line) and the local resistance cluster between $114,000 and $116,000, the rejection at $112,000 is especially significant. Bulls could have regained short-term momentum with a successful breakout here, but the inability to hold higher levels indicates that sellers are still in control. Bitcoin is currently trading at about $111,121, but there is a growing chance that it will fall further.

You Might Also Like

The 100-day EMA, which is located close to $110,785, is the next important support. Bitcoin will probably test the 200-day EMA at $104,520 — a level that hasn’t been reached since May, if this doesn’t hold. Following the robust rally earlier this summer, such a move would confirm a deeper correction phase.

Momentum indicators support this pessimistic outlook. A lack of buying strength is indicated by the RSI, which is at 46, just below neutral. Compared to June and July, trading volume has also drastically declined, indicating a noticeable drop in market zeal. Bitcoin appears more likely to grind lower rather than stage another quick surge in the absence of fresh demand inflows.

Ethereum stalemate ends

Following weeks of intense volatility, Ethereum’s price action has flattened out entering a stalemate phase. With its current price hovering around $4,300, ETH is having trouble gaining traction and the overall picture indicates that momentum is ebbing rather than increasing. Short-term moving averages are the problem. At $4,144, ETH is currently sandwiched between the 26-day EMA and the 50-day EMA.

Normally, this squeeze indicates an impending breakout, but in this instance the setup appears more bearish than bullish. ETH may have already peaked for this leg of the cycle, according to worries raised by its inability to regain significant upward momentum after breaking $4,000 earlier in the summer. If sellers seize the initiative, ETH may first test the 100-day EMA level of $3,607, which served as dynamic support during the July rally.

You Might Also Like

Failure there would probably push the asset closer to the 200-day EMA, which is at about $3,190, and would indicate a more severe correction phase. Conversely, a recovery could occur, but given the current technicals, the likelihood seems low. With the RSI at 52, it is close to neutral but does not have the strength to enter overbought territory. Additionally, since mid-August trading volumes have been dropping, indicating hesitancy on the part of both bulls and bears.

It is unlikely that ETH will experience a sustained rebound in the absence of a spike in demand. To put it briefly, Ethereum is displaying its weakest position since regaining the $4,000 mark. ETH may continue to move lower over the next few weeks due to a chart setup that leans toward a downside break and the lack of obvious bullish catalysts. Whether Ethereum stabilizes or moves into its next correction wave will be determined by traders in the $4,144-$3,607 range.

To summarize, the market is in a weird position: Some assets clearly show a possibility of a recovery, while others are struggling to reach values that we’ve witnessed a few weeks ago. Realistically, the market can go both ways, but with Bitcoin struggling to recover, the bullish scenario seems unlikely.

Bitcoin bull Michael Saylor makes Bloomberg Billionaire List

by admin September 7, 2025

Michael Saylor, strategy co-founder and executive chairman, has made his first appearance on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Summary

  • Michael Saylor debuts on Bloomberg Billionaires Index at $7.37B net worth.
  • His fortune grew by $1b in 2025 as Bitcoin surged near $111K levels.
  • $6.72b of Saylor’s wealth is tied to MicroStrategy stock, per Bloomberg.

Saylor joins crypto billionaire club

Saylor’s net worth has risen by $1 billion since the start of the year to $7.37 billion, ranking 491st globally.

The wealth surge coincides with Strategy’s continued Bitcoin (BTC) accumulation strategy and the cryptocurrency’s price movements throughout 2025. With 636,505 BTC as of September 2025, the firm has the most extensive corporate crypto treasury on record.

Saylor, who founded Strategy (previously known as MicroStrategy) in 1989, has $650 million in cash and $6.72 billion tied up in company stock, according to Bloomberg’s tracking methodology.

The direct correlation between his wealth and cryptocurrency markets makes him one of the most Bitcoin-exposed billionaires globally. See below.

Bloomberg Billionaires Index data

Saylor’s debut comes as Bitcoin trades around $111,000, down about 4.3% over the last 30 days.

Strategy’s first bitcoin purchase was in 2020. As of August 2025, it has accumulated 628,946 BTC — valued at roughly $76 billion — acquired at an average price of $73,288 per coin for a total investment of about $46.1 billion.

The most recent major purchase occurred on Sept. 2, when Strategy acquired 4,048 Bitcoin at an average cost of $110,981 per coin, spending $449.25 million.

Earlier purchases in August included 3,081 BTC on Aug. 25 at $115,829 per coin for $356.87 million and 430 BTC on Aug. 18 at $119,666 each for $51.46 million.

The company also bought 155 BTC on Aug. 11 at $116,401 per coin for $18.04 million.

Strategy Bitcoin purchse data from Saylortracker

Strategy’s Bitcoin strategy has helped Saylor

Saylor’s inclusion places him among other prominent cryptocurrency billionaires on Bloomberg’s list.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong ranks 234th with a net worth of $12.8 billion, while Binance founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao holds the 40th spot with $44.5 billion.

The crypto billionaire club has seen changes over time. Former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried was previously on the list before his exchange collapsed in November 2022, wiping out his fortune and leading to criminal charges.

Strategy’s aggressive accumulation strategy has made it a proxy for Bitcoin exposure among traditional investors. Yet, it was also notably left out of the S&P 500 index inclusion in August.

The company is also involved in lawsuit with investors who allege that the company misled shareholders about the risks and financial impact of its strategy.

Bitcoin, gold, Swiss franc vie for safe haven status as US dollar falters

by admin September 7, 2025

The ongoing economic and geopolitical tensions have fueled demand for safe-haven assets, with Bitcoin, gold, and the Swiss franc being in the driver’s seat.

While Bitcoin’s (BTC) price has pulled back recently, it remains much higher than the year-to-date low. Also, Bitcoin ETFs continue to add assets this year, with their cumulative inflows rising by $54 billion since January last year.

Summary

  • Bitcoin, gold, and the Swiss franc have jumped this year.
  • The US dollar index has plunged by over 10% from the year-to-date high.
  • The three assets have become safe-haven assets amid heightened risks.

Geopolitical and economic risks are high

The U.S. economy shows signs of stagflation as consumer and producer inflation continue rising. The year-over-year U.S. consumer inflation rate (CPI) grew from 2.4% in June to 2.7% in July. The core CPI, excluding food and energy, accelerated to 3.1%.

U.S. job growth is also slowing, according to data released on Friday. The economy added just 22,000 jobs in August, while the unemployment rate moved to 4.3% — the highest level since the pandemic.

Economists expect that the upcoming inflation report will show that the headline consumer price index rose to 3% in August, continuing a trend that has been going on for months.

Therefore, economists expect the Fed to cut interest rates by 0.25% in the upcoming meeting. Cutting rates in a stagflation risks pushing inflation higher in the coming months.

Demand for safe-haven assets has also jumped as trade relations between the U.S. and other countries worsen. For example, India is reportedly aligning itself with China due to the Trump administration’s tariffs.

The other significant risk has been the threat to Federal Reserve independence. Trump has considered firing Fed chair Jerome Powell, and has recently fired Lisa Cook in his bid to achieve lower interest rates.

Bitcoin, Swiss franc, and gold have soared

These risks explain why the U.S. dollar index has plunged, moving from the year-to-date high of $110 in January to $97.73 today.

At the same time, the gold price has recently surged to a record high as ETFs have added substantial inflows in the past few months. China’s central bank has bought gold in the last eleven consecutive months, bringing its holdings to $74 million troy ounces. Goldman Sachs analysts see the gold price hitting $5,000.

The Swiss franc has also become a safe haven as it surged by 13% against the U.S. dollar. Investors love the low-yielding franc because of Switzerland’s stability, neutrality, and low public debt.

$55 Million in Bitcoin Scooped From Binance in Major Whale Comeback

by admin September 7, 2025

With the crypto market showing signs of a potential rebound, Bitcoin and other top altcoins have moved to the green zone. Amid this positive price trajectory, Bitcoin whales appear to have relented from market sell-offs as data provided by on-chain monitoring firm Whale Alert shows major BTC buy activity.

The source revealed it has spotted a huge Bitcoin transaction, which involved 500 BTC being emptied from the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange Binance in a matter of minutes.

You Might Also Like

While the transaction happened during the mid hours of Sept. 7 when Bitcoin was trading at $111,132, the large BTC scooped out of Binance during the time was worth about $55,566,215.

Although the intention behind the major Bitcoin transaction was not specified, market watchers have perceived the move to be a Bitcoin buy activity from a high profile investor or an institution due to the nature of the transfer.

Bitcoin rebound restores market confidence

With the major BTC accumulation coming at a time when the leading cryptocurrency is moving upward, showing signs of a potential price resurgence, the move comes as no surprise.

While Bitcoin had experienced mixed price action during the week, surging to about $113K and falling as low as $107,000, it appears to be closing the week on a positive note.

After falling below the $110,000 mark in the previous day amid a broad market bloodbath, it appears to be regaining momentum as it returns slowly to the upside, trading at $111,374 as of press time, according to data from CoinMarketCap.

Source: CoinMarketCap

Though slow, Bitcoin’s price appears to be gradually headed for a major breakout. Hence, the whale’s decision to buy and move such a large amount of BTC from a top exchange hints at a bullish shift in investor sentiment in preparation for a major price move.

Over the last day, Bitcoin has been moving slowly in its trading price, but on a positive path as it shows a decent price surge of 0.27%. However, the asset’s trading volume during the period has slumped massively by about 18.45%, suggesting that the demand for the asset is still outweighed by speculative trading from exiting investors.

Over 1 Million in Bitcoin Locked in Treasuries as Institutions Pour In $1 Billion

by admin September 7, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

Corporate Bitcoin treasuries have now topped 1 million BTC as more companies quietly and publicly build crypto reserves.

Reports show that from September 1 to September 6, companies announced fresh allocations of nearly 9,800 BTC — roughly 1 billion at current prices — pushing the corporate total past the seven-figure mark.

All-In On Bitcoin

Three new corporate treasuries appeared during the week. A Dutch firm opened with 1,000 BTC after raising about 147 million, according to crypto analyst @btcNLNico.

China-listed CIMG Inc started with 500 BTC, while US-based Hyperscale Data put in an initial 3.6 BTC via an early program.

Those new entries together accounted for about 1,503 BTC — small in headline size but important for the expanding roster of corporate holders.

Alongside those fresh entries, a broad set of firms added smaller but meaningful amounts. Mining and infrastructure companies chipped in:

Cipher Mining bought 195 BTC, CleanSpark added 124 BTC, and Convano and Cango took 155 BTC and 150 BTC, respectively.

🚨 Week 36 – #Bitcoin Treasury Strategy Updates 🚨

📅 Sep 1 – Sep 6 saw 47 announcements – ~9.8k BTC 🤯

– 3 new treasuries launched with 1,503.6 BTC
– 6 future treasuries announcements, millions worth
– 24 companies added 8,339.26 BTC
– 6 plans to buy more BTC, $136.7m worth
-… pic.twitter.com/V9VInvIJ2U

— NLNico (@btcNLNico) September 6, 2025

Big Treasury Names, Big Appetite

These purchases were part of a larger pattern — 24 companies lifted holdings by about 8,339 BTC over the week. Spread across many names, these smaller allocations added real momentum to the dataset and highlighted wider participation beyond the marquee buyers.

Big treasury names kept buying, too. Michael Saylor’s Strategy made sizable buys that keep its total north of 636,500 BTC. Miner Marathon Digital added 1,838 BTC during the week, while Metaplanet purchased 1,009 BTC, pushing its stash past 20,000 BTC.

American Bitcoin increased its holdings by 502 BTC as part of a steady build. Those single-company moves made a substantial dent in the weekly total and underscored that both miners and non-miners are taking sizable positions.

Corporate activity was not limited to spot purchases. Several firms unveiled large purchase plans and funding approvals.

BTCUSD currently trading at $111,220. Chart: TradingView

Metaplanet secured an expansion approval that could involve as much as ¥555 billion (about $3.8 billion). S-Science raised its buying limit to ¥9.6 billion (roughly $65.3 million). The Smarter Web Company agreed a subscription worth about £24 million (around $32.4 million).

A Growing Base

Meanwhile, Hyperscale Data plans to buy 20 million in Bitcoin through an ATM program and Convano pledged ¥2.5 billion ($17 million).

Other notable moves include Sora Ventures launching a 1 billion Bitcoin treasury fund, American Bitcoin preparing to list on Nasdaq as ABTC, and DDC Enterprise working with Gemini on treasury allocations.

Institutional flow also showed up in broader markets. BlackRock’s recent 290 million Bitcoin purchase was singled out among institutional moves, reflecting growing mainstream interest in building crypto exposure at scale.

The week’s story is both concentration and diffusion: a handful of massive treasuries keep growing, but dozens of smaller buys and new entrants are widening the base.

Together they pushed corporate Bitcoin holdings over the 1 million BTC mark — a milestone that shows companies are increasingly treating Bitcoin as part of corporate finance playbooks.

Why SharpLink’s CEO Thinks Bitcoin Creator Satoshi Nakamoto Will Return

by admin September 7, 2025

In brief

  • Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, disappeared in 2011.
  • SharpLink Gaming co-CEO Joseph Chalom thinks Nakamoto will return as Bitcoin faces a quantum computing threat.
  • Nakamoto is linked to nearly 1.1 million Bitcoin, valued at over $120 billion.

Bitcoin’s elusive, pseudonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto has remained in the shadows since his last message in 2011, saying that he had “moved on to other things.”

But SharpLink Gaming co-CEO Joseph Chalom has a “wild theory” that Nakamoto will reveal himself once the original cryptocurrency faces an existential threat from quantum computing.

Some experts believe that quantum computing could become an “existential crisis” for Bitcoin within the next decade, as the community has started to discuss ways to quantum-proof the network. To do this, some have floated the idea of a quantum-proofing hard fork, while others have proposed freezing Satoshi’s quantum-vulnerable coins.

Chalom, who co-leads the $3.6 billion Ethereum treasury company, told Decrypt last week that he believes the Bitcoin founder may reveal himself as this hurdle is attempted.

“I have a wild idea that at some point—five, 10 years from now—when the Bitcoin network needs to be quantum-proofed, there will be some really important decisions around standards and encryption,” Chalom explained. “There’ll be decisions about whether you need to hard fork the protocol [and] what you do with wallets that are dormant.”

“When that quantum moment comes, somebody is going to wake up and say: ‘I don’t want to be forked.’ Or someone’s going to wake up and say: ‘Fork me.’ That’s a lot of money to leave on the table,” he added.”

This theory, Chalom added, is not based on any facts and is just another bold theory to add to the 17-year mountain of Satoshi speculation. However, Chalom did say that if his theory is right, then he believes Satoshi will reveal himself through “some old, OG accounts” that haven’t been active in a long time.

These old accounts could include any of the wallets that many attribute to being owned by Satoshi—identified via a method called the Patoshi Pattern. At the time of writing, these wallets hold 1.096 million BTC, which is worth approximately $121.9 billion, according to Arkham data.

That makes the elusive founder the 12th richest person in the world, according to Forbes, while a 23% move to $150 billion would put him in the top 10. Predictors at Myriad think that such a move is unlikely to be made soon, with 90% voting against Satoshi hitting a $150 billion net worth in September. (Disclosure: Myriad is a product of Decrypt’s parent company, DASTAN.)

Old accounts waking up could also include any of the known Satoshi-linked email addresses or his account on the Bitcointalk forum. These accounts springing back to life to voice Satoshi’s opinion may not necessarily mean revealing his true identity.

Thousands of theories about Satoshi’s real identity have spawned since the Bitcoin white paper was first penned in 2008. Fingers have been pointed at early Bitcoin adopters, government organizations, and even Elon Musk. But Bitcoin backers have yet to agree on a single person.

HBO attempted to unmask the elusive crypto creator in a 2024 documentary, which made the claim that Bitcoin Core developer Peter Todd was Satoshi.

“Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery” director Cullen Hoback highlighted a forum post from Todd to Satoshi, which the director believed was Todd speaking as if he were in control of both accounts. The documentary also pointed to other clues, such as Todd’s writing style, his previous experiments with digital currencies, and his level of computer programming.

Ultimately, however, the crypto community dismissed the theory as speculative and based on false assumptions. Todd also pushed back by posting on social media, “I’m not Satoshi.”

As of now, the mystery remains—but if Chalom is right, then maybe the looming quantum threat will bring Bitcoin’s creator back out from the shadows.

Bitcoin Illiquid Supply Hits Record 14.3M as Long-Term Holders Continue to Accumulate

by admin September 7, 2025

Bitcoin’s illiquid supply—the portion of coins held by entities with little history of spending—has climbed to a new record high, surpassing 14.3 million BTC in late August, according to Glassnode.

With 19.9 million BTC currently in circulation, around 72% of the total supply is now illiquid, held by entities such as long-term holders and cold storage investors. This growth highlights a sustained accumulation trend, even during recent market volatility.

In mid-August, bitcoin hit an all-time high of $124,000 before retreating roughly 15%. Despite the price pullback, the illiquid supply continued to rise, showing that holders remain undeterred by short-term corrections.

Over the past 30 days alone, the net change in illiquid supply has increased by 20,000 BTC, underscoring persistent investor conviction.

The ongoing increase in this category suggests tightening supply dynamics that could set the stage for renewed momentum once sentiment recovers. For now, the trend reflects growing confidence in bitcoin as a long-term store of value.

$5 Billion Bitcoin Treasure Tied to Piracy Website Found in German Wallets

by admin September 7, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

Arkham Intelligence has flagged roughly 45,000 Bitcoin tied to the Movie2K piracy case that have not moved since 2019, a discovery that raises fresh questions about what was missed when German authorities handled the earlier seizures.

At current prices, those coins are worth nearly $5 billion, putting renewed scrutiny on Berlin’s choices last year.

Arkham Tracks Dormant Movie2K Holdings

According to Arkham, the dormant stash sits across more than 100 wallets linked to the defunct Movie2K site. Reports have disclosed that Movie2K operators were arrested in 2019, and that German authorities recovered nearly 49,858 BTC in January 2024.

Those coins were later sold off in June and July 2024. The newly identified 45,000 BTC, however, showed no movement after 2019, suggesting control by the same operators rather than state custody.

BREAKING: ARKHAM IDENTIFIES $5B BTC THAT THE GERMAN GOVERNMENT FAILED TO SEIZE

German police seized 49,858 BTC from the operators of Movie2K, a film piracy website, in early 2024. The government sold it in July 2024 for $2.89B at an average price of $57,900.

Government Sold Earlier Holdings At Lower Prices

Based on reports, the January 2024 seizure — close to 49,860 BTC — was liquidated at an average price of $57,900, generating about €2.64 billion, or roughly $2.90 billion.

Germany defended the move by warning of a possible “significant loss of value of around 10% or more” if it held the coins longer.

Market prices have since climbed, and Bitcoin has reached an all-time high above $123,000, making the earlier sale look, in raw numbers, like a large missed upside.

Bitcoin is currently trading at $111,266. Chart: TradingView

Legal And Technical Hurdles Remain

The new finding does not automatically mean those wallets can be taken by the state. Legal steps would be required to prove ownership and to secure court orders.

Technical challenges exist too: dormant keys, complex custody chains, and cross-border links can all slow or block enforcement.

Analysts say recovery is possible in some cases, but it is rarely quick or simple. If another large tranche of coins were to be moved into markets, it could create pressure similar to what was seen after the mid-2024 disposals.

Debate Over State Bitcoin Reserves

Joana Cotar, a German lawmaker and Bitcoin supporter, wrote an open letter urging a rethink. She argued that holding confiscated Bitcoin as a sovereign reserve could have produced far larger returns for the state.

At the same time, Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel has warned that Bitcoin is volatile and compared its surge behavior to Tulip Mania – a financial bubble that happened in the Dutch Republic during the early 1600s. It’s often called the first recorded speculative bubble in history.

Other countries have taken different paths. Reports note that El Salvador recently shifted $678 million in Bitcoin into 14 wallets to guard against quantum risks while keeping the holdings visible on the blockchain.

Bitcoin Indicator Re-Enters Accumulation Zone After 147 Days

Over the past week, Bitcoin prices rose slightly by 1.04% to enter the $110,600 price zone following previous weeks of an extensive correction. Notably, on-chain data shared by crypto analyst Burak Kesmeci suggests the premier cryptocurrency may have found a potential bottom, indicating strong potential for a price rally in the coming weeks.

KMFG Sends Accumulation Signal Again—Is This BTC’s Next Big Move?

In an X post on September 6, Kesmeci shares an important note on the Bitcoin market that may signal an incoming bullish leg.

The renowned analyst reports that Bitcoin’s KMFG indicator has officially re-entered the accumulation zone for the first time since April 12, marking a potentially pivotal moment for medium to long-term BTC investors. After 147 days, the on-chain signal, which historically precedes notable price increases, is now reinforcing bullish expectations of another price swing.

In Kesmeci’s analysis, the KMFG is presented as a custom crypto market indicator used to identify potential accumulation and distribution zones using various market dynamics. When KMFG values fall below approximately 0.3, it signals accumulation, suggesting a possible local bottom. Conversely, values above 0.7–0.8 indicate distribution, pointing to potential local tops.

The KMFG last gave an accumulation signal in mid-April, just as Bitcoin’s price hit a local low near the $76,000 level. What followed was a strong, sustained upward trend, eventually culminating in a new all-time high (ATH) at around $124,000, i.e., an impressive 67% gain in just four months.

This week’s signal may indicate that Bitcoin is once again at or near a local bottom. The BTC price has been consolidating in recent weeks, hovering in the $107,000 – $112,500 range, while the KMFG metric fell sharply into the green “accumulation zone” on the chart. Historically, such levels have aligned with the early stages of upward trends.

As BTC KMFG dives below the 0.3 mark, historical patterns suggest this may be a prime area for building positions, especially for investors eying a potential rebound, despite the cautious sentiment in the market.

Bitcoin Market Overview

At press time, Bitcoin trades at $110,601 after a minor 0.26% decline in the past day. On the monthly chart, the premier cryptocurrency reports a greater loss of 5.4% reflecting a dominant selling pressure in the present market.

According to data from analytics firm Sentora, total Bitcoin network fees rose by 53.4% from the previous week to $3.70 million, indicating an increase in network demand. Meanwhile, exchange outflows reached $7.04 billion, signaling strong market confidence among BTC investors in the asset’s long-term price appreciation.
