Final Fantasy Tactics: The challenges of bringing it to PC – YouTube

Watch On

“They’ve actually done it: Not only can I finally play Final Fantasy Tactics on my PC, but this timeless classic has been done justice,” begins our 91% review of The Ivalice Chronicles, the long, long-awaited remaster of one of the all-time great strategy games. As the developers at Square Enix have recently attested, pulling off the revival for PC and modern consoles has been no easy task, in part because the original source code no longer exists.

In a new interview with PC Gamer at the Tokyo Game Show last week, director Kazutoyo Maehiro went into more detail about the specific challenges of adding a new PC-friendly interface to a game designed for the original PlayStation.

“I myself play a lot of games on PC, so … I was very particular making sure we got it right,” Maehiro said. “Tactics is a turn-based strategy RPG, so you might be playing it for a while. You’ll spend a lot of time with your hands on the mouse and keyboard. One of the things I wanted to make sure was people wouldn’t get tired from playing for extended periods of time. So when it came to that, it was a lot of discussions within the team: What kind of shortcuts could we have, what kind of ways can we make the mouse easier to use? We went through a lot of different iterations and discussions together to make that happen.

Related articles

“We also looked at a lot of different strategy RPGs and RTS games as well. We would look at what kind of controls they’re using, what’s the standard that people have or what people are comfortable with, and we used that as a base to make what we have.”

The Ivalice Chronicles producer Shoichi Matsuzawa added that Maehiro wasn’t kidding about being particular. “Even down to the speed of the scrolling, he’d tell me ‘the scroll’s just a little bit off here,’ and I was telling him ‘we don’t have time for this! The schedule does not allow for more adjustments.'”

The duo also discussed making sure the game worked well on the Steam Deck, though it’s currently rated Playable rather than Verified due to some small text. That was a deliberate trade-off—they decided they weren’t willing to sacrifice any of the important information they needed to fit onto the screen.

Our TGS interview also covers updating Final Fantasy Tactics’ script to support its newly added voice acting without losing any of its sharp political commentary, as well as the archeological process of digging through the game code from past releases to cobble together this definitive version.

The Internet Reacts To The Big Xbox Game Pass Price Hike

by admin October 1, 2025

Because raising prices for its console wasn’t enough, Xbox is also raising the price of its Xbox Game Pass subscription by a whopping 50 percent. The service, which gives people access to a large library of games for a monthly fee, has long been considered one of the best deals in gaming, especially for people who don’t want to buy dozens of games a year. You could theoretically just subscribe to Game Pass and have something new to play every month as games rotate in and out of its catalog. Well, today Microsoft announced it would be raising the price for the Ultimate tier from $20 to $30 a month.

Along with the hefty price increase, the Ultimate tier is getting a lot of new games and perks, including the Ubisoft+ catalog and a Fortnite crew membership that gives you battle pass access and in-game currency every month. The other tiers are also going up in price, and will now include cloud gaming access and an expanded library. The PC Game Pass package, however, is going up from $12 to $16.50 with no new perks. Xbox frames this as a move toward flexibility and choice, but ultimately, Game Pass’ claim to fame has always been its affordability, and now that its price is going up, the internet has feelings and jokes loaded up.

When I said i wanted the 360 era back, I didn’t mean $360 a year.

From the people that brought you the $650 five-year-old Xbox Series X and the $1000 handheld gaming PC, comes…

$30 per month for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate! WHO’S EXCITED??? /s

there’s still no annual subscription for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. That means it’s $360 a year, which is more than the Xbox Series S ($300) when it first launched 🤯

Xbox Game Pass for 30 bucks? Are they insane? These price hikes on game pass, consoles, and games themselves are just pricing people OUT of gaming. No more “I’ll give it a try” because of these prices. Absolutely wild to see how bad it’s become, and prices will never go down.

The Xbox brand has gotten a lot more expensive in just the past few weeks, with the company raising the prices of Xbox Series X/S consoles and announcing that the most powerful version of the Rog Ally X handheld will cost a staggering $1000. If that price wasn’t high enough, scalpers are already trying to sell the thing for twice as much, despite the handheld being readily available elsewhere.

This Toshiba 55-Inch 4K Fire TV Is Only $200 For Prime Big Deal Days

by admin October 1, 2025

You don’t have to wait for Prime Big Deal Days to kick off on October 7 to start saving, as the Toshiba 55-Inch Class C350 LED Smart Fire 4K TV is already down to its lowest price ever at Amazon. The LED TV is just $200 (was $400), and several other sizes are also discounted ahead of the shopping event–including nice price cuts on the 75-inch and 65-inch variants. Despite being official Big Deal Days early offers, these budget-friendly Toshiba 4K TVs are shipped and sold by Best Buy

$200 (was $400)

This LED 4K TV offers AI upscaling for non-4K content, support for Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, and an Ultimate Motion feature that’s said to reduce blur during fast-moving scenes. It has a dedicated Game Mode with variable refresh rates and reduced latency. Just keep in mind that the C350 is limited to 60Hz refresh rate.

As a Fire TV, you’ll have quick access to popular apps and streaming services. The TV also includes a Voice Remote with Alexa, allowing you to use voice commands to find your favorite content.

The 55-inch model is seeing the best deal, as it’s a full 50% off its usual asking price. In fact, it’s cheaper than the 50-inch model (which is $220). But if this size isn’t right for your space, there are several other options to choose from, including a 65-inch for only $300 and 75-inch for $430. Note that the 55-inch discount is exclusive to Prime members.

Toshiba Class C350 LED Smart Fire 4K TV

Several other Amazon devices are on sale ahead of Big Deal Days, including Luna Controllers, security cameras, and smart displays. There’s also a long list of other Fire TV devices up for grabs, including the Fire TV Stick HD, Fire TV Stick 4K, and Fire TV Stick 4K Max. Both are capable of turning your HD TV into a smart TV, though the 4K Max is the most compelling due to its support for Wi-Fi 6E, additional storage, and included Alexa Voice Remote Enhanced.

For something even more premium than the Fire TV Stick, check out the Fire TV Cube, which offers everything you’d find on the Fire TV Stick 4K Max plus access to a hands-free Alexa system, inputs for additional devices (like your cable box or gaming consoles), and an ethernet port.

Consider pairing your Fire TV with the Fire TV Soundbar or Soundbar Plus. The Soundbar Plus is the better option right now, as it’s seeing an impressive $100 price cut. The 3.1 channel device features a built-in subwoofer, supports Dolby Atmos, and offers a dialogue enhancer feature for improved clarity. The standard TV Soundbar, meanwhile, doesn’t include a subwoofer but is a nice step up from most built-in TV speakers.

Amazon Fire TV Streaming Devices

And if you want some movies to watch on your new 4K TV, Amazon has a bunch of 4K Blu-rays for $15 or less as part of its early Prime Big Deal Days sale.

How to follow Amazon’s big hardware event tomorrow

by admin September 30, 2025

Tomorrow, Amazon will host an event in New York City to unveil some new hardware. The showcase kicks off on September 30 at 10AM ET. Based on what we can see in the invitation and the most common cadence of product news, we are expecting to hear about developments to the Echo line of smart speakers, at least one new addition to the Kindle collection and an update for the Fire TV.

Normally this is where we’d have an embed of a YouTube link so you could watch along on Tuesday, but this event is a little unusual in that Amazon doesn’t provide a stream for those of us at home. However, Engadget will have reporters at the event, and they will be liveblogging all the details as Amazon announces them. The liveblog will be up and running around 8AM ET.

In past years, this fall showcase has also been when Amazon shares news from the Ring, Blink and Eero companies, so we might have more than just its own-brand products being discussed tomorrow. And with AI the buzzword of the day, there’s also a good chance that Amazon execs will spend some time discussing the Alexa+ voice assistant.

Amazon Fire Max 11 Tablet Hits Lowest Price Yet Ahead of Prime Big Deal Days, Hundreds Cheaper Than an iPad

by admin September 30, 2025

We’d be telling you that this limited-time deal on the Amazon Fire Max 11 tablet is hot, or that it’s fire, or that it’s a scorcher, but honestly, would you still respect us in the morning? So we’ll dispense with the terrible puns and cut straight to the deal, because it’s one of the better ones we’ve seen in a while on this great, affordable tablet. It’s 32% off for a limited time, turning a very good $280 price into a great one at just $190.

To put things in perspective, the Amazon Fire Max 11 is an 11-inch tablet with an octa-core processor, 14-hour battery life, expandable storage of up to 1TB via microSD card, and 2.4 million pixel resolution. As an Amazon product it blends seamlessly with the rest of the Amazon ecosystem, including Prime Video, Kindle, Audible, and Luna, along with your smart home devices via either Alexa or the Device Dashboard. And here’s the kicker — at this sale price it’s over $700 less than the 11-inch M4 iPad Pro, and $375 less than the 11-inch M3 iPad Air.

See at Amazon

Premium Features, Not Price

There are probably metrics and benchmark tests that put those pricier iPads ahead of the Fire Max 11, but not nearly enough to quantify the price difference. The octa-core processor at the heard of the Fire Max 11 is certainly no slouch when it comes to streaming, multitasking, and gaming on Luna. The 128GB of storage is small, but so easily and inexpensively expandable thanks to the microSD card slot that the Apple tablets lack.

Wi-Fi 6 speeds, a robust 14-hour battery life, 8MP camera, and options to expand into a more laptop-like experience with the sold-separately Fire Max 11 Keyboard Case — which also happens to be way more affordable than Apple’s Magic Keyboard — all make the Fire Max 11 highly competitive even before you do a price comparison. Once you check out those numbers, this isn’t even a fair contest.

Beautifully Basic

When you look at the Fire Max 11 — and this is the latest, most updated iteration of the Fire Max — in the context of being a fully integrated part of the massive Amazon ecosystem, it’s a brilliant tablet, especially for just $190. It’s not going to compete with a laptop as a productivity machine, although this deal does come with a free 3-month Microsoft 365 trial, but as an e-reader, streaming device, smart-home control panel, and light gaming device, it’s an exceptional tablet.

This model of the Amazon Fire Max currently on sale for just $190 has the max 128GB storage and also comes with lockscreen ads deactivated. The $90 savings on this deal are great, and even greater when you tack them onto the hundreds you save by avoiding the super-bougie competitor tablets.

SEC Chairman Marks Crypto as 'Top Priority', Big XRP News Ahead?

SEC Chairman Marks Crypto as ‘Top Priority’, Big XRP News Ahead?

by admin September 29, 2025

  • What’s coming for XRP?
  • Is $10 XRP realistic?

On Monday, September 29, Paul Atkins, Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), publicly named crypto as a top priority for the agency during a brief interview with renowned American journalist Eleanor Terrett.

Paul’s statement has sparked fresh excitement across the crypto community as it aligns with growing speculation that the broader crypto market, with XRP at the center of attention, may be gearing up for major developments in the coming month.

What’s coming for XRP?

Atkins’ remarks came just hours after Eleanor Terrett broke the news that the SEC had asked issuers of XRP, Solana, Cardano, and Dogecoin ETFs to withdraw their pending 19b-4 filings.

While some commentators initially viewed the move as a setback for the crypto community, Terrett clarified that the opposite is true — the request is meant to speed up the approval process for these ETFs.

The withdrawal requests are consistent with the SEC’s recent approval of generic listing standards for all crypto ETFs. These new standards eliminate the need for issuers to submit individual 19b-4 forms. Instead, only an S-1 filing will be required, streamlining the process and paving the way for faster approvals.

With more than a dozen investment funds already filing for an XRP ETF and deadlines starting this week, the XRP community is increasingly optimistic that the altcoin could see a major breakout as early as October.

Is $10 XRP realistic?

Although XRP has struggled repeatedly to break through the $3.60 resistance level, market watchers remain confident that October could be the month when the token finally clears that barrier.

Source: CoinMarketCap

With the first XRP ETF expected to launch in October, community sentiment has shifted toward the possibility that XRP may soon reach price levels once thought “unrealistic.”

Industry experts predict that demand from institutional funds, combined with Ripple’s ongoing partnerships, could push XRP toward the $5–$7 range in the short term, while setting the stage for a long-term surge toward $10.

Epic pulls controversial Peacemaker dance emote from Fortnite following big twist in the TV show’s latest episode

by admin September 29, 2025

Epic has pulled a Peacemaker dance emote from battle royale Fortnite, after the latest episode of the TV show proves just how controversial that dance is.

Spoiler warning for Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 6

The Peaceful Hips emote was added to Fortnite earlier this month, which features John Cena’s character hip-thrusting and holding his arms in rigid 90 degree angles.

Now, though, it’s been removed, with refunds likely to be issued in the next few days. “We’re disabling the Peaceful Hips Emote in Fortnite as we inquire into our partner’s creative intentions in this collab emote,” reads a social post from Fortnite. “Assuming it’s not coming back, we’ll issue refunds in the next few days. Sorry folks.”

Why so controversial? Well it turns out, as revealed in the latest episode, Peacemaker has been living in an alternate dimension where Nazis won World War 2 and the American flag’s stars have been swapped for swastika.

And looking at the dance emote in retrospect, yeah, it’s pretty obviously imitating swastika.

What’s most remarkable about this is that Warner Bros. agreed on the collaboration with Epic, but seemingly didn’t forewarn them of the emote’s true meaning. Perhaps they were worried about spoilers leaking ahead of the episode airing last week.

Peacemaker writer and director James Gunn posted earlier this month about Peacemaker’s inclusion in Fortnite, adding “check out his bundle, complete with Peacemaker’s best friend Eagly and a peace-spreading, hip-swaying emote or two ;)” – that winky face is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

Nobody wants nazi symbolism in their kid-friendly battle royale, but it’s not just the TV show’s viewers who have been duped by a big twist.

Could this impact any future collaborations between Epic and Warner Bros.? Eurogamer has contacted Epic to find out.

Leaks have suggested Sonic and Shadow will be headed to Fortnite in some form soon, though hopefully will prove less controversial.

Dogecoin Price Stages Big Rebound as Volume Rockets 65%

Dogecoin Price Stages Big Rebound as Volume Rockets 65%

by admin September 29, 2025

Dogecoin (DOGE), the king of meme coins, has staged a big rebound as the volume recorded a massive uptick in the last 24 hours. DOGE’s price has climbed by over 2.55%, higher than Bitcoin’s 2.5%. CoinMarketCap data shows Dogecoin’s volume has skyrocketed by more than 65% within this period.

Is SEC decision on DOGE ETFs behind market optimism?

Dogecoin is witnessing this level of volume increase as the market anticipates key decisions from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Notably, the SEC has a deadline to rule on over a dozen DOGE exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The SEC has to decide on these applications in October.

The volume spike might be a sign that investors are actively accumulating the meme coin in anticipation of a possible approval. Many believe that an approval could increase institutional adoption and trigger further price increases.

Polls on the crypto market have placed the approval chances of the spot DOGE ETF at 92%.

Additionally, the Altcoin Season Index has increased to 66, signaling more funds are rotating from Bitcoin to assets like DOGE.

As of press time, the Dogecoin price was changing hands at $0.2369, which represents a 3.27% increase in the last 24 hours. The meme coin, within this time frame, rose from a low of $0.2292 to a peak of $0.2375, suggesting potential for higher price levels.

Dogecoin Daily Price Chart | Source: CoinMarketCap

The trading volume has soared by 80.25% to $2.35 billion as market participants are gripped by a fear of missing out (FOMO). They are likely accumulating the asset as the price is still below the critical $0.30 level.

If DOGE can break out above this price resistance level, the meme coin could proceed to post impressive gains. Some believe that this might be the last opportunity for investors to buy Dogecoin cheaply, as prices could soar astronomically if technical patterns align.

Utility push adds long-term value for Dogecoin

Meanwhile, Timothy Stebbing, Director, Dogecoin Foundation, is pushing for more utility for the meme coin. Stebbing argued that increased utility will drive the adoption of DOGE in the broader financial space. The goal is to ensure that DOGE gains acceptance and pulls in more users to the ecosystem.

The meme coin’s golden cross formation could support its upward movement and allow it to exit bear traps in the market. Dogecoin is likely to surge past $0.50 if a bullish breakout occurs, and the leading cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, records a surge too.

Black Ops 7 dev adresses long-time CoD complaint with big update

by admin September 29, 2025

Treyarch’s Matt Scronce has explained why the Black Ops 6 devs hadn’t totally dumped an issue that Call of Duty fans have been complaining about for a while. Though it has been “drastically reduced” for Black Ops 7.

Since Call of Duty started molding into one with the launch of the CoD hub, there have been a few issues that have lingered from game to game. Players have voiced their complaints on big collabs, devs seemingly not focusing on the realism side of CoD, and even the in-game performance of guns.

Article continues after ad

On the latter part of that, fans have complained for a while about visual clutter when firing. Wacky scopes, some filling too much of the screen, and gun smoke flying up after shots have all caused players headaches at some point.

The visual smoke has, at times, been toned down, but the developers have accepted that they’ve not gone too far enough at times. However, that should change with Black Ops 7.

CoD devs reducing visual noise in Black Ops 7

Ahead of the Black Ops 7 multiplayer beta, Treyarch’s Matt Scronce announced that “drastically reduced visual noise” when firing weapons in the upcoming release.

The design director noted that it “is a common piece of feedback across the board but also specifically from our keyboard and mouse players.” Though, he was quizzed on why it’s not been eradicated before, given it is a common complaint.

“Will only speak for us, but we pulled back considerably over the course of Black Ops 6,” he added. “It’s a balance between visual flavor and gameplay. Want to make sure gameplay is prioritized on day 1 for Black Ops 7.”

Scornce has also revealed that Treyarch would love to bring back Pick 10 as a create-a-class system at some point, but they’d like to make changes to it as well.

He also announced that three perks have had their slots switched up ahead of the multiplayer beta. So, Tryarch are taking feedback on board.

Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy's Part Three will have some sort of fresh "gameplay experience", but it's a big secret for now

Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy’s Part Three will have some sort of fresh “gameplay experience”, but it’s a big secret for now

by admin September 29, 2025

The Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy finale will have a new gameplay experience, director Naoki Hamaguchi has stated.

Speaking to German outlet NTower, Hamaguchi stated “development is going very well”, and while no specifics were provided, he did compare the gameplay of the third part back to the progression from Remake to Rebirth.

“As you’re very much aware, the first game in the series, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, was a more story driven linear gaming experience and then that evolved and changed into a more open world adventure for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the second game,” Hamaguchi explained. “And that seems to be very well regarded. People seem to like that change a lot and they like the new gameplay direction. So, we’re very happy with that.”

FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE – Release Date Announcement – Nintendo Switch 2Watch on YouTube

“But moving forward to the third game in the series,” he continued, “obviously I can’t say exactly what it is, but I don’t want to deliver just exactly the same style of gameplay experience as we had with Rebirth again. We’re going to evolve it and change it again to give another different and fresh take on the Final Fantasy 7 gameplay. Again, that will be revealed in the not too distant future. I can say we’re working on it and we’re trying to change that because we’ve actually got a build up and running in the development team right now where you can experience that new style of gameplay.”

So what exactly does he mean here?

While “gameplay experience” is a broad term, part three will likely still use the same battle system that’s been developed across Remake and Rebirth, though presumably with some twists for additional characters Cid and Vincent.

Hamaguchi really seems to be discussing structure here. Remake was a more linear affair, owing to the tight focus on a single location (the city of Midgar), while Rebirth was open world as Cloud and friends explore expansive environments in pursuit of Sephiroth – just as players moved to the world map in the original PS1 game.

It’s understandable Square Enix would need a change in structure for the trilogy finale. In part, the presumed inclusion of Cid’s Tiny Bronco to fly over the world would diminish the sense of exploration from Rebirth, but also re-using much of Rebirth’s world would feel like repetition.

I wonder, then, if the trilogy’s multiverse storyline might lend itself to a more unique structure. Square Enix has toyed with narrative changes from the original game with this remake trilogy and, as the scope has gradually (and confusingly) widened, perhaps a conventional linear or open world won’t be the best method to tie up its loose threads. I’d rather the development team went all-in on something new than a half-hearted midway approach in an attempt to appease a vast spectrum of fans.

Still, Hamaguchi added more will be announced “in the near future” and the game “really will be a fitting climax to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series”.

Of course, the other key question is what will the game’s subtitle be, following Remake and Rebirth. Speaking with JPGames.de, Hamaguchi explained “reunion” was the key word for Remake, while “bonds” was the key word for Rebirth (emphasising the relationships between characters).

“And in the same vein, we have got a new key word for the third game in the series,” he said. “Can’t tell you what it is yet. It’s very much there, though, and influencing and informing how the gameplay and the game experience is shaped, in exactly the same way as the first two games were by their key word.”

What are your best guesses for part three?

Until then, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is heading to Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S next year, plus the progression boosts will be retroactively added to the PS5 and PC versions.
