Early Prime Day Deals: $100 Off 2 Best-Selling Espresso Makers

by admin October 1, 2025

Hi. it turns out Prime Day is only really a suggestion on the calendar. A lot of brands like to kick out early Prime Day deals before getting lost in the big din of Prime Big Deal Days on October 7-8. (See here for early Prime Day deals on laptops, earbuds, and more.)

The two most popular espresso machines on Earth—as judged by Amazon sales, anyway–are both on sale for $100 off this week, ahead of Amazon Prime Day’s October reprise. These are a couple of the best early Prime Day Deals.

Ninja

Luxe Cafe Premier Series Espresso Machine

The most exciting deal of the pair is probably the Ninja Luxe Cafe Premier ($500), on sale for the lowest price we’ve ever seen it.

When Ninja announced it was jumping into the semiautomatic espresso market, I didn’t know quite what to make of it. But Ninja seems to have applied its general flair for multipurpose machines to this beautifully beginner-friendly espresso machine with a 25-setting conical burr grinder, a built-in scale (thank you), and options for cold brew and drip coffee.

WIRED contributing reviewer Tyler Shane was likewise skeptical of Ninja’s first espresso device when it arrived but ended up loving the excellent milk steaming and the fact that this Ninja grinds espresso shots by weight. (Why doesn’t everybody?) She also appreciated the reasonable price—a price that’s even more reasonable ahead of Prime Day.

$100 off Breville Barista Express

Breville’s Barista Express ($600) semiautomatic espresso machine has been Amazon’s best-selling espresso machine for years—so long it’s hard to remember a time when it wasn’t the top-selling pick.

Why’s it so popular? It’s a Goldilocks thing—a mix of accessible price, Breville’s excellent reputation for customer service on high-ticket items, and beautiful ease of use on a semiautomatic machine with a built-in grinder that makes full-flavored, well-extracted espresso. This $100 discount isn’t quite the lowest price we’ve seen on it—it’s been down to $550 before—but it’s a very good price.

And besides, this Breville has the merit of being a tried-and-true machine. WIRED reviewer Julian Chokkattu has been pulling shots from his Barista Express for six years now, and it’s still going strong. No wonder the Express has been among WIRED’s top espresso machine picks for ages.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is the best-selling PlayStation game of all time

by admin September 10, 2025

Grand Theft Auto 5 is the best-selling PlayStation game of all time, across all generations, in the U.S.

That’s according to Circana’s Mat Piscatella, who, to celebrate PlayStation’s 30th anniversary in the U.S on September 9, 2025, shared the 20 all-time best-selling games on PlayStation (using data from Circana’s retail tracking service).

The data was taken from between January 1995, eight months before the first PlayStation console was released in North America, and July 2025, and covers physical and digital sales.

Piscatella then divided the data into two ranked lists: the top 20 for “dollars” revenue sales and the top 20 for units sold.

Best-selling PlayStation games of all time (US, revenue)

  1. Grand Theft Auto 5
  2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)
  3. Red Dead Redemption 2
  4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022)
  5. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
  6. Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War
  7. Minecraft
  8. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
  9. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
  10. Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock
  11. Marvel’s Spider-Man
  12. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
  13. Call of Duty: Black Ops
  14. Call of Duty: WW2
  15. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
  16. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023)
  17. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
  18. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
  19. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  20. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Best-selling PlayStation games of all time (US, units sold)

  1. Grand Theft Auto 5
  2. Minecraft
  3. Red Dead Redemption 2
  4. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
  5. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)
  6. Marvel’s Spider-Man
  7. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
  8. Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War
  9. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
  10. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022)
  11. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
  12. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  13. The Last of Us
  14. God of War (2018)
  15. The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim
  16. Call of Duty: Black Ops
  17. Rainbow Six: Siege
  18. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
  19. Call of Duty: WW2
  20. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

In the number one spot for both is Grand Theft Auto 5, which, according to Take-Two Interactive’s financial report earlier this year, had sold over 215 million units worldwide as of May 2025, with five million of those copies sold between February 2025 (when Take-Two confirmed it had sold over 210 million units) and May 2025.

In second and third place, respectively, for sales revenue, are Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) and Red Dead Redemption 2, followed by three Call of Duty titles: Modern Warfare 2 (2022), Black Ops 6, and Black Ops – Cold War.

In fact, Call of Duty titles make up 11 of the 20 top-selling PlayStation games in terms of revenue, and nine of the 20 for units sold.

The only other franchises, aside from Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto, to make it onto the top revenue list are Minecraft, Guitar Hero, and Marvel’s Spider-Man.

However, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) is fifth when it comes to top-selling PlayStation games by units sold, with Minecraft, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas taking second, third, and fourth places, respectively.

Other games to make the best-seller list for units include Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, God of War (2018), The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, The Last of Us, and Marvel’s Spider-Man.

The PlayStation officially launched in North America on September 9, 1995.

To mark the brand’s 30th anniversary, Sony is holding a series of special events, activities, and giveaways, and has released a limited-edition anniversary range of PS5 products.

Only nine franchises make up the top 20 all-time best-selling PlayStation chart in the US – can you guess how many are Call of Duty games?

by admin September 10, 2025

In honour of PlayStation’s 30th birthday yesterday in the US, data company Circana has dug out figures showing the top 20 best-selling PlayStation video games ever (date-range Jan 1995 to July 2025). Don’t get too excited.

Call of Duty dominates it, occupying nine of the top 20 spots, though Rockstar’s games lead the list, with Grand Theft Auto 5 top, Red Dead Redemption 2 fourth, GTA San Andreas fifth and GTA Vice City ninth.

The surprise performer for me is Insomniac’s relatively recent Marvel’s Spider-Man series, with the debut 2018 game in sixth and the PlayStation 5-launch-adjacent Miles Morales expandalone in 12th.

Elsewhere you’ll spot Minecraft, The Last of Us, God of War, Skyrim, and Rainbow Six Siege.

Watch on YouTube

The top-20 best-selling PlayStation games in the US ever, according to Circana senior director Mat Piscatella, are as follows.

Best-selling PlayStation games (all PlayStation platforms, US)

  1. Grand Theft Auto 5
  2. Minecraft
  3. Red Dead Redemption 2
  4. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
  5. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)
  6. Marvel’s Spider-Man
  7. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
  8. Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War
  9. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
  10. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022)
  11. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
  12. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  13. The Last of Us
  14. God of War (2018)
  15. The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim
  16. Call of Duty: Black Ops
  17. Rainbow Six: Siege
  18. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
  19. Call of Duty: WW2
  20. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

The list changes when you re-order it according to dollars made. There are now 11 Call of Duty games in the top 20, though GTA 5 still leads and Red Dead Redemption 2 is now third. The older GTA games San Andreas and Vice City drop down, presumably as they were less monetised, as does the cheaper Minecraft. But Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man series gains a third entry with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 showing up in 18th.

The most welcome change to this list, though, is Guitar Hero 3 appearing in 10th – its income presumably buoyed by the expensive plastic pack-in guitar peripheral and buyable, downloadable song packs. I miss that series.

Here’s the top-20 highest grossing PlayStation games in the US ever (date-range Jan 1995 to July 2025).

Highest-grossing PlayStation games (all PlayStation platforms, US)

  1. Grand Theft Auto 5
  2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)
  3. Red Dead Redemption 2
  4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022)
  5. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
  6. Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War
  7. Minecraft
  8. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
  9. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
  10. Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock
  11. Marvel’s Spider-Man
  12. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
  13. Call of Duty: Black Ops
  14. Call of Duty: WW2
  15. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
  16. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023)
  17. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
  18. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
  19. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  20. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

But that’s not all, stats fans! While spelunking in the archives, Piscatella dug up two other notable best-seller lists. One of them was for PlayStation 1 games only, which is relevant because it was the 30th anniversary of PS1 yesterday (9th September) in the US. And the other was for the best-selling Dreamcast games ever. Why? Because the Dreamcast was released on the same day, 9th September, albeit four years later than PS1, in 1999.

In the PS1 list we see the origins of some of PlayStation’s longest-running series, such as Gran Turismo and Metal Gear Solid – series I’m somewhat surprised not to see in the best-selling all-PlayStations list above. We also see Spyro doing well, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater doing well, and the Driver series doing well – which has since disappeared. The most recent game in that series was the somewhat overlooked Driver: San Francisco from 2011, in which you could body-shift from car to car. Also present: Final Fantasies 7 and 8, and Crash Team Racing.

The best-selling PS1 games of all time (Jan 1995 to July 2025) in the US are as follows.

Best-selling PS1 games (US)

  1. Gran Turismo 2
  2. Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back
  3. Gran Turismo
  4. Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped
  5. Jampack Series: PlayStation
  6. Frogger (1997)
  7. Spyro the Dragon
  8. Crash Bandicoot
  9. Tekken 3
  10. Driver
  11. Final Fantasy 7
  12. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2
  13. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater
  14. Metal Gear Solid
  15. Namco Museum: Vol. 3
  16. CTR: Crash Team Racing
  17. WWE Warzone
  18. Driver 2
  19. Final Fantasy 8
  20. Spyro Dragon 2: Rage

On Dreamcast, meanwhile, we see an alarming amount of sports games. But besides them there are some absolute classics: Sonic Adventure, Shenmue, Crazy Taxi – I didn’t realise it was this popular. There’s SoulCalibur of course, Bass Fishing, Resi Code Veronica. What a console!

The best-selling Dreamcast games of all-time (Jan 1995 to July 2025) in the US are as follows.

Best-selling Dreamcast games (US)

  1. Sonic Adventure
  2. NFL 2K
  3. Crazy Taxi
  4. NFL 2K1
  5. NBA 2K1
  6. NBA 2K
  7. SoulCalibur
  8. Ready 2 Rumble: boxing
  9. Shenmue
  10. World Series Baseball 2K1
  11. Sonic Adventure 2
  12. Virtua Tennis
  13. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2
  14. Bass Fishing
  15. Resident Evil Code Veronica
  16. The House of the Dead 2
  17. NFL 2K2
  18. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater
  19. NHL 2K
  20. Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation

List Of All-Time Best-Selling PlayStation Games Makes For Depressing Reading

by admin September 9, 2025

The original PlayStation hit U.S. shores 30 years ago today, helping usher in a disc-based gaming revolution that reshaped the industry. Four new consoles and lots of hardware iterations later, PlayStation is the undisputed winner in the high-end console gaming space. What were the top-selling games that helped it get there? A newly released list of the top all-time performers across all PlayStation platformers in the States tells part of the story, and it’s a pretty depressing one.

Circana gaming research director Mat Piscatella released the list of the top 20 games across PlayStation’s history in the U.S. by unit sales to commemorate the PS1’s birthday. Here they are:

  1. Grand Theft Auto V
  2. Minecraft
  3. Red Dead Redemption II
  4. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
  5. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)
  6. Marvel’s Spider-Man
  7. Call of Duty: Black Ops III
  8. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
  9. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
  10. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022)
  11. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
  12. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  13. The Last of Us God of War (2018)
  14. God of War (2018)
  15. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
  16. Call of Duty: Black Ops
  17. Rainbow Six: Siege
  18. Call of Duty: Black Ops II
  19. Call of Duty: WWII
  20. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

The top spots aren’t shocking. GTA 5 and Minecraft are the two best-selling game ever across any platform. Red Dead Redemption II is the fifth-best. Sony’s critically acclaimed first-party blockbusters also rank highly. And then it’s just a sea of Call of Duty. Modern Warfare, Black Ops, good ones, bad ones, it doesn’t matter, they all rank, smothering any greater sense of the breadth, variety, and whimsy of the games released on PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, and PS5 over the years.

“Man, this list makes me sad,” Digital Foundry‘s John Linneman opined. “Most people playing games really only play the same few titles huh.” Big sigh. Much agree. Cultural PlayStation juggernauts that didn’t make the list include but are not limited to: WipeOut, Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid 2, Tekken 3, Street Fighter 4, Dark Souls, Nier: Automata, The Witcher 3, Persona 5, and Cyberpunk 2077.

Even now, annualized Call of Duty sequels remain yearly best-sellers, cannibalizing much of the remaining market for big-budget console releases. I keep waiting for the wheels to fall off the Activision military shooter machine, not because the games are terrible or I want anyone to lose their jobs but because I think we have enough Call of Duty to last us another quarter century and I bet all of those developers could make new, original stuff that’s really cool, too.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is Europe’s best-selling new title so far, according to new data

by admin August 19, 2025

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is Europe’s best-selling new game so far this year, according to new data from GSD.

As reported by The Games Business, Ubisoft’s latest title beat the likes of Monster Hunter Wilds, Split Fiction, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

Split Fiction is the best-selling IP of 2025 so far, which reached No.6 on the Top 20 chart.

This comes from data collected by GSD up until July 28, 2025. However, this excludes Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as the game’s publisher does not share its sales data with GSD.

As for Nintendo titles, the publisher also doesn’t share its digital sales data.

Looking at the overall chart, Monster Hunter Wilds ranked at No.7, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was at No.10, Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered came in at No.11 followed by Elden Ring Nightrein at No.13.

While AC Shadows is the best-selling new game, EA Sport FC 25 took the ultimate top spot following its release last September.

Elsewhere, 71 million PC and console games have been sold across the continent so far this year, reflecting a 6% decline year-over-year, according to additional data shared by GSD analyst Sam Naji.

This included 52 million digital games (down 3%) and 19.7 million physical games (down 9%).

During the first 19 weeks of 2025, games spending dropped 2% to €1.33 billion, with unit sales declining 9%. This was reportedly “due to an 8% increase in the average selling price of games” with “gamers spending on average €29 per game” compared to €27 last year.

Digital spending rose by 8% (compared to a 6% drop in unit sales) due to a 15% rise “in the average selling price of digital games” from €22 to €29.

Physical spending was down 16%, with unit sales declining a further 17%. The price of physical games has slightly increased by 2% compared to the same period last year from €39 to €40.

Here are the top 20 games in Europe from GSD data collected until July 28, 2025:
