Double play in Brewers-Cubs delivers free food to Colin Rea’s hometown bar

by admin August 22, 2025

Sometimes a two-set Venn diagram collapses into one circle — like Wednesday, when Chicago Cubs fans in Iowa and free mozzarella sticks completely overlapped during the game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The complimentary cheese treat came courtesy of Marquee Sports Network announcers Jon “Boog” Sciambi and Jim DeShaies, who promised everyone at a bar free cheese sticks if the Cubs executed a 6-4-3 double play in the fifth inning of Wednesday’s Brewers-Cubs game.

The deal was set up as Milwaukee catcher William Contreras stepped to the plate with two men on and one out.

“I mentioned somewhat flippantly yesterday that I feel like, at least once a game, William Contreras hits a ground ball to shortstop,” Deshaies said. “This would be an ideal time for that to happen.”

“If he hits a ground ball to short to start the 6-4-3 … will you buy mozzie sticks for everybody at The Corner Taproom?” Sciambi asked, to which Deshaies replied, “Absolutely.”

Contreras obliged, bouncing to shortstop Dansby Swanson, who fed Nico Hoerner at second and on to first for a double play.

“MOZZARELLA STICKS FOR EVERYBODY!” 🤣

Cubs broadcasters Boog Sciambi and Jim Deshaies said they would buy mozzarella sticks for an entire bar in Iowa if the Cubs turned a 6-4-3 double play. That is exactly what happened. 😭 pic.twitter.com/0OoimbpGNo

The wager wasn’t just a bit for the broadcast. According to The Corner Taproom general manager Zach Nothdorf, the mozzarella sticks were delivered to patrons by the top of the seventh inning.

“I don’t think anybody really believed it. At least until [Marquee Sports Network analyst] Elise Menaker called,” Nothdorf told ESPN. “Even I didn’t really believe it until I talked to her and then I got off the phone and I went and told everybody the news and everybody just kind of erupted. They were all pretty pumped.”

The Corner Taproom was chosen for its location in Cascade, Iowa — the hometown of Cubs pitcher Colin Rea, who induced the grounder. The state is also home to the Iowa Cubs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.

The Corner Taproom lists “cheese stix” on its menu, a shared item with the adjoining restaurant, Happy Joe’s. Corner Taproom

Nothdorf had already been running a Rea special: When he records two strikeouts in a start, patrons get a free drink. He estimated about 50 to 60 fans were also served free fried cheese treats.

“Colin [Rea] deserves the recognition for everything too. So it’s just really cool for the community and him and everybody involved,” Nothdorf said.

While still reveling in the Cubs 4-3 Wednesday win, the venue is already planning for the next time the Iowa native is on the mound.

“For [Rea’s] next start, I might have to bring in some extra staff.”

KeyGo’s hybrid keyboard brings Apple Touch Bar dreams to life with a 12.8-inch touchscreen, making every workspace instantly more versatile

by admin August 18, 2025

  • KeyGo 12.8-inch screen offers sharp visuals despite a compressed 1440p layout for multitasking
  • Scissor-switch keys provide a tactile typing experience suitable for serious work or long sessions
  • RGB lighting enhances visibility in low-light conditions while allowing personal customization

Small external screens have steadily become essential for those seeking flexible workflows and improved multitasking capabilities.

Yanko Design’s new KeyGo keyboard merges a 12.8-inch touchscreen monitor with a full-size keyboard.

It aims to create a hybrid device that extends the traditional workspace without requiring a full desktop setup.

A screen built for precision

This concept is ambitious, but its practicality is limited by the absence of a built-in battery, meaning users must remain connected to a power source for extended use.

The integrated display delivers a resolution of 1920×720 at 60Hz, which might initially raise eyebrows among those accustomed to conventional 1080p monitors.

However, the design essentially compresses a 1440p screen across a wider layout, producing a pixel density that keeps text sharp and visuals reasonably crisp.

For professionals who rely on portable monitors or a monitor for video editing, this width-oriented resolution provides a usable secondary screen for reference materials, timelines, or notifications, even if it cannot fully replace a main 4K display.

The keyboard uses scissor-switch keys, which offer a responsive typing experience comparable to high-end laptops.

This design minimizes the often-criticized “mushy” feel of cheaper units, enabling fast and accurate typing.

RGB lighting is integrated with three modes, supporting work in dimly lit environments and allowing a degree of personalization.

While the visual flair may appeal to gamers, business users may appreciate the practicality of illuminated keys during extended work sessions.

Connectivity is handled through USB-C, simplifying connections to laptops, tablets, or smartphones across Windows and macOS platforms.

The single-cable solution handles both power and data, which reduces clutter and streamlines setup for mobile professionals.

Despite its thin CNC-machined aluminum build, which gives it a premium feel, the device remains somewhat limited by its dependence on external power.

It also comes with a 180-degree hinge, allowing users to orient the touchscreen above the keys or stand it fully upright as a second monitor.

While the KeyGo revisits ideas reminiscent of Apple’s Touch Bar, it expands the concept into a standalone, multi-touch interface.

Pricing begins at $538, although early backers can purchase the KeyGo for $249, representing a 54% discount.

The product also includes global shipping and a one-year warranty, and the company claims only 23 of 200 units remain.

Cooler Master Hyper 612 Apex review: raising the bar for silent performance

by admin May 26, 2025

Why you can trust Tom’s Hardware

Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test.

I first heard that Cooler Master’s Hyper 612 air cooler had impressive performance from users in China, but I had no idea quite how much it would impress me. Despite its medium size, it provides performance competitive with larger dual-tower air coolers. Cooler Master claims its performance is enabled by new superconducting heatpipe. And while normally I would ignore such claims as marketing fluff, the Hyper 612 Apex has the performance to back it up!

Will the Hyper 612 Apex make our list of the best CPU coolers? It certainly has the performance to warrant consideration. But the price of $79 is higher than most of the air-cooled competition, especially from tough competitors like Thermalight. Let’s take a look at the specifications and features of the cooler, then we’ll go over thermal performance with both Intel and AMD CPUs, as well as noise levels.

Features of Cooler Master’s Hyper 612 Apex

▶️ Heatsink Design

At first glance, you might think this is a thick single tower cooler – but look again!

If you take off the top cover, it becomes apparent that the heatsink isn’t as large as it might appear – almost half of the unit’s thickness is from the fans that come with it.

▶️ High-quality Cryofuse

Cooler Master includes its Cryofuse thermal compound with the cooler, which offers good performance only a couple of degrees away from the best pastes we’ve tested – but as you’ll see in our benchmarks below, it really doesn’t an edge from its thermal paste!

▶️ Sturdy metal backplate

For users of Intel platforms, a sturdy metal backplate is included that won’t bend under pressure.

▶️ Six superconducting copper heatpipes

The design of this unit’s heatpipes are interesting. Cooler Master has mentioned that the company was using machine learning to improve its heatpipes in the past, and this cooler appears to be the first to utilize these advances.

Looking at the cross-section of the Cooler Master image above, you can see that the heatpipes have been staggered to evenly spread heat through the aluminum fins of the tower. Cooler Master makes some interesting claims about the heatpipes themselves. I’ve included one of the marketing slides below.

And here’s a bottom photo of the sample we were sent for testing, showing how the heatpipes are weaved for maximum heat dissipation.

▶️ Complete RAM Compatibility, no matter the size of DDR5

Unlike liquid coolers, which generally don’t interfere with memory DIMMs on a motherboard, many air coolers overhang the DDR5 or DDR4 slots, creating compatibility concerns. This is not an issue for Cooler Master’s Hyper 612 Apex, which does not overhang them in any manner, ensuring compatibility no matter how short or tall your RAM sticks are.

Real world testing configuration – Intel LGA1700 and AMD AM5 platform

My results may differ from others because I emphasize results that are comparable to real-world use. This means that I test CPU coolers inside a closed desktop case, which increases cooling difficulty compared to other testing methods.

Many will test CPU coolers outside of a case, on an open test bench. Open benches have lowered ambient temperatures, which makes weak coolers appear stronger than they are. Some publications have also used generic thermal plates to test cooling solutions. I reject both of these methods because they don’t accurately reflect the real-world conditions where a CPU cooler is typically used.

My previous reviews have tested Intel’s latest platform, using the Core Ultra 9 285K Arrow Lake CPU. But we’re retiring this from our testing suite. Between BIOS changes and Windows updates, Arrow Lake’s thermal characteristics have changed in some scenarios, rendering much of our previous testing data useless.

With today’s review, we’re also testing AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X3D. This is a beast of a CPU, providing the best gaming and multithreaded performance on the market. It can prove quite challenging thermally when PBO is enabled for overclocking.

The installation of this cooler is simple for both Intel and AMD CPUs.

1. You’ll first need to apply the included backplate if you’re using an Intel CPU. AMD users will need to remove the default mounting mechanism.

2. Next, you’ll need to install the standoffs against the mounting holes.

3. Take the support bars and place them on the mounting standoffs, and secure them with a screwdriver.

4. Apply the included thermal paste to your CPU. If you have any questions on how to do this properly, please refer to our handy guide on how to apply thermal paste.

5. Mount the heatsink on top of the CPU, using a screwdriver to secure the screws on each side of the tower.

How to get Palium Bar in Palia

by admin May 21, 2025

Everything you need to know about Palium and Palium bars is right here.

Published: May 21, 2025 05:13 am

Palium is a rare find in Palia, and once you gather enough of this beautiful luminous ore, you can make yourself a ton of shiny Palium Bars at home.

You can mine multiple kinds of useful minerals, most of which can be crafted into valuable products for use in other recipes. While Stone can be found throughout the island, all other minerals spawn in particular regions only. If you aren’t sure on how to get Palium Bars in Palia, our guide has everything you need to know.

How to make Palium Bars in Palia

Get its recipe first. Screenshot by Dot Esports

To start crafting Palium Bars, you need to purchase its recipe from Hodari via the Mining Guild Store. The recipe unlocks at mining level six and costs 500 Gold. With the recipe unlocked, you can place Palium ores in the Smelter to make Palium Bars.

One Palium Bar takes five Palium ores, so make sure you have enough ores to make the amount of bars you need. While you can craft Palium Bars in a Basic Smelter, one bar takes over 11 minutes to make. The time needed drastically reduces with the Heavy Smelter, which unlocks at level five mining.

Where to find Palium

Palium nodes are pretty distinct. Screenshot by Dot Esports

If you’re used to farming Palium from Bahari Bay from earlier, that’s no longer possible. After the 0.191 update, Palium is now exclusive to the Elderwood region. These glowy ores feature a spawn rate similar to Iron nodes in Bahari Bay, and can be found in almost every highlighted landmark on the Elderwood map, but particularly in:

  1. Deep Woods
  2. Red Blossom Cave

You get both Stone and Palium from these nodes. Screenshot by Dot Esports

Considering the size and intricate geographical features of Elderwood, however, farming Palium ores can be exhausting, especially if you don’t know where these nodes are likely to pop up. But here’s a tip that’ll help you with not just Palium, but every mineral in the game: Ore nodes usually spawn at the edges of cliffs. If you’re still not sure where to look, open the map on your screen and look for greyish highlights, which indicate cliff edges.

We’ve marked the spots where we’ve found multiple Palium nodes in a snapshot of the Elderwood map below. Look around these places too.

Check out the spots. Screenshot by Dot Esports

If looking for Palium manually seems like a lot of work, we suggest getting the Ore Compass. You can purchase its recipe for 2,500 Gold from Hodari via the Mining Guild Store after reaching mining level eight. When used, the compass marks all Silver, Gold, and Platinum nodes, large-sized Stone, Whitestone, Copper, Iron, and Palium on the map for 15 minutes. It’s an excellent tool for when you need to farm a lot of Palium or other minerals for a recipe or quest.

To mine Palium, you need a Fine Pickaxe or above. You can purchase the recipe for Fine Pickaxe—which takes a Standard Pickaxe, five Iron Bars, and 10 Heartwood Planks—from the Mining Guild Store when you reach mining level six. We suggest working toward getting the Exquisite Pickaxe (level nine mining) as you’ll eventually need it to mine the larger Palium nodes and Platinum in Elderwood.
