Remedy Is Bringing Major Changes To FBC: Firebreak After Launch Backlash

by admin June 23, 2025

FBC: Firebreak is getting a number of changes after the three-player cooperative shooter faced a wave of backlash from frustrated fans this week. Players found problems with matchmaking, a lack of tutorials, and a lack of progression via unlockable cosmetics and weapons. .

“It’s been exciting (and nerve-wracking) to see our first multiplayer game out in the wild,” Remedy wrote in a statement on Steam. “Launching FBC: Firebreak is a significant milestone for us, not just because it’s our first online co-op game, but because we’ve self-published it as well. Several things have gone well. Clearly, not everything has.”

Now Playing: FBC: Firebreak – Gameplay Trailer

Remedy released a patch today that including UI fixes and changes to how much unlockables costs. The studio re-organized unlockables into two categories: operational requisitions and essentials. Operational requisitions now include only cosmetics like sprays and armor sets while essentials includes gear and weapons. Essentials are now easier to unlock, according to the studio.

Remedy also detailed how they plan to change the “games’ first hours” by better communicating how the crisis kits work and giving players better information on what to do within each mission. In addition, Remedy is giving new players deeper access to each job right off the bat, instead of limiting them to lower difficulties at the start.

The studio said it had been breaking down data and have more ideas on how to improve the overall experience but will need more time to execute.

“Today’s patch is just the beginning,” the studio wrote. “These are some of the most immediate changes, but we are actively discussing and planning broader improvements to the game based on what we are hearing and seeing.”

FBC: Firebreak was highly anticipated by fans of the Finnish studio, especially after strong showings with single-player adventures like Control and Alan Wake 2. While the gameplay is enjoyable, the number of problems quickly piled up. Many are still hopeful that Remedy can turn FBC: Firebreak into a fun and satisfying experience.

“As the game has launched on two different subscription services, I expect some players will likely try it, only to be quickly turned away by a subpar first impression and write Firebreak off without the lack of investment that might keep them around for longer,” Mark Delaney wrote in his GameSpot FBC:Firebreak review. “Hopefully, those who enjoy co-op PvE games do stick around past the early roughness, because there’s something really fun to uncover. Sometimes the game gets in its own way by not tutorializing key points, like how to best deal with status effects and play roles dependably. But once you’ve gained that institutional knowledge, FBC: Firebreak is an enjoyably chaotic power fantasy, and an interesting experiment for Remedy between its bigger, weirder projects.”

MrBeast promises changes to AI YouTube tools after backlash from creators

by admin June 22, 2025

MrBeast created a system that allows for YouTubers to AI generate thumbnails that are algorithmically tuned to optimize engagement for their videos. JackSepticEye has spoken out against him, condemning the practice entirely, and other creators have followed suit.

While MrBeast has had his fair share of controversy in recent years, he has remained the biggest YouTuber in the world in terms of subscribers and average viewership per upload.

Now, he’s introduced a system that allows users to AI generate thumbnails for their YouTube videos in a way that makes their videos much more clickable.

JackSepticEye has wholly rejected the idea, objecting to his inclusion in MrBeast’s video demo for the product and calling him out publicly for it.

JackSepticEye calls out MrBeast for creating YouTube AI tools

Instead of using image manipulation tools like Photoshop or hiring an editor, MrBeast is working with Viewstats to create a different option: AI thumbnail tools.

It allows users to pick a YouTube channel, use their video thumbnails as “inspiration”, and put in a prompt to get something similar but themed around their video. It even allows users to put their own face into a thumbnail to theme it around their channel.

And, while Viewstats has a monthly fee of $80 USD attached to the service, that’s a lot cheaper than hiring a thumbnail artist for people who need clickable videos in order to turn YouTube into a career or make the platform more profitable.

JackSepticEye objected to his inclusion in the video and to the software’s existence as a whole, directly calling out MrBeast over it.

“What the actual f**k… and he used my logo in the promotion for it too. I hate what this platform is turning into. F**k AI,” he said.

JackSepticEye has been critical of MrBeast in the past, believing that his approach to content creation is “ruining YouTube” and claiming that his approach takes the fun out of making videos.

This caused beef between the two creators, with Jimmy calling Jack’s words toward him “insanely disrespectful” at the time. Though they settled the beef after talking to each other privately, a feud between the two creators may be back on the table.

Jack isn’t the only one, though, with YouTuber PointCrow calling him out directly. The two YouTubers had a conversation about it, leading to MrBeast deleting his tweet and promising changes to the AI tool.

“I spend days, weeks, sometimes months thinking of thumbnails, working with artists to craft the perfect one — and you’ve made something that can steal my (and my artists) hard work without a thought. Your model is clearly trained on all our thumbnails and uses them without any creators permission, and makes it not only easy, but it attempts to make this socially acceptable too,” reads a small part of PointCrow’s critical Tweet about MrBeast’s tool.

A few hours later, he posted this:

“Had a chat with MrBeast about his AI thumbnail creation tool. While I’m uncertain what will be happening moving forward, I’ve voiced my thoughts directly to him. Great idea to want to make content creation more accessible, but this isn’t remotely the solution to that and actually fundamentally hurts creators as a whole,” the YouTuber claims.

“Just mentioning because I think it’s important to note that he reached out, even though we still largely disagree. Leaving everything up to discourage this still, and I’ll count this hopefully as my bookend to the saga,”

MrBeast replied to that, outlining the changes he wants to make to the tool.

“Already working on changes like Faceswap should only be used to swap your face on YOUR thumbnail, obviously not others. And overall I’ll build this more in a way to be inspiration for artists/a tool they use and not replace them. Very good feedback.

“My goal with Viewstats is to build tools to level the playing field between people like me with 300 employees and new creators that can’t afford a small army,” MrBeast explained.

Splitgate 2 slashes $145 cosmetic bundle price following fan backlash

by admin June 8, 2025

Free-to-play “Halo meets Portal” shooter Splitgate 2 says it hears you “loud and clear” about some of the eye-watering prices that have popped up on its in-game store.

In a video update posted to Twitter, 1047 Games’ CEO Ian Proulx said he was “doubling down” on being “community first” and confirmed the team was slashing its $80 cosmetics bundle – which was reportedly already on sale from an original $145 price tag – to $40 after fans complained about the pricing.

“The first thing I want to do is double down on being community first and listening to you guys, because you guys are the reason we’re here,” said 1047 CEO Ian Proulx.

“And so the first action we’re taking is, we hear you loud and clear on the store prices. So that Nano Swarm bundle – we’re cutting the price in half. Some of the other items in the shop, we’re reducing prices across the board.

Actions speak louder than words. We are here to listen & act based on your feedback!

“We’re going to keep monitoring it, we’re going to keep listening, but that’s what we’re taking action on today,” he added, confirming the team would be issuing refunds for the difference to any players who paid full price.

Proulx also touched upon his “Make FPS Great Again” cap, saying: “Obviously, some people didn’t receive it the way we intended. Our intention is truly to make FPS [games] as good as possible. It’s plain and simple.”

South Korean Actor Hwang Jung-eum Faces Backlash for Embezzling $3 Million to Buy Crypto

by admin May 20, 2025

In brief

  • South Korean actor Hwang Jung-eum admitted in court to embezzling $3.1M (₩4.34B) from her agency to invest in crypto.
  • SBS Plus channel removed her segments from the final episode of Because I’m Single following backlash.
  • Advertisers like Daesang Wellife Nucare have pulled her campaign content after the scandal broke.

South Korean actor Hwang Jung-eum has been edited out of the final episode of SBS Plus’s reality show ‘Because I’m Single,’ following her courtroom admission that she embezzled $3.1 million (₩4.34 billion) from her own company to invest in crypto.

“Hwang Jung-eum’s VCR segments will not appear in today’s final episode, which airs at 8:30 p.m.,” the production team said Tuesday as per local media reports. “Her comments as an MC will also be minimized.”

The decision comes after Hwang testified last Thursday at the Jeju District Court, admitting to misappropriating approximately $3 million (₩4.2 billion) from a family-run agency she fully owns and using the funds to buy crypto.

Prosecutors indicted her under Korea’s Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes.

“I sincerely apologize for causing concern over this shameful matter,” Hwang said in a statement released through her new agency, Y.One Entertainment. “I made the investment in hopes of growing the company, but it was a hasty and immature decision.”

The scandal has quickly derailed her public image. Daesang Wellife Nucare, a health drink brand, pulled down newly launched promotional content featuring the actor just days after its release.

Ad posters and videos were scrubbed from the brand’s official social media, and a related online event was abruptly canceled. The company cited “changes in internal schedules” as the reason.

Hwang’s former agency, where the embezzlement took place, was a one-person operation that managed only her.

Her legal team argued that the misused funds originated from her personal entertainment income and were temporarily held in her name because corporations are restricted from holding crypto directly.

“Since the agency’s profits ultimately stem from the defendant’s own work, they can be seen as rightfully belonging to her,” her attorney said in court.

Hwang has since sold crypto assets to repay part of the amount and plans to liquidate real estate holdings to cover the rest. A second hearing is scheduled for August.

The scandal coincides with a turbulent period in Hwang’s personal life, including an ongoing divorce. Her role on Because I’m Single marked her return to television last October.
