HUT, BITF, CIFR, RIOT, IREN Among BTC Miner Big Gainers

by admin September 9, 2025

Crypto mining stocks jumped on Tuesday after Nebius Group announced a five-year agreement to supply Microsoft (MSFT) with graphic processing units valued at $17.4 billion.

The deal, aimed at bolstering Microsoft’s artificial intelligence infrastructure, sparked investor enthusiasm for companies with large-scale computing power, bitcoin miners among them.

The rally in mining shares came even as bitcoin BTC$111.186,70 itself gave up an early advance and declined by about 1% to $111,100 over the past 24 hours. The contrast underscored how investor attention is increasingly tied to the role mining infrastructure could play in the AI boom rather than just bitcoin’s price action.

Leading was a 22% gain for Bitfarms (BITF), while shares of Cipher Mining (CIFR) rose 20%. IREN (IREN), Hut 8 (HUT), Riot Platforms (RIOT) and TeraWulf (WULF) were up mid-teens percentages.

Interestingly, the weakest sector performer was MARA Holdings, which in recent months has positioned itself as more of a bitcoin treasury company, rather than high performance computing player. Shares of MARA were higher by just 4% on Tuesday.

The outsized moves reflect the industry’s shifting reality. For years, mining profitability was largely dictated by bitcoin’s four-year halving cycle, when block rewards are cut in half. That rhythm no longer dominates, leaving companies exposed to surging power costs, relentless hardware production, and intensifying competition. Hardware makers like Bitmain continue to expand, adding pressure to an already crowded field.

At the same time, AI is reshaping the business model. Miners with large energy footprints and advanced computing infrastructure are exploring ways to lease capacity to hyperscalers or pivot toward data center services. The Nebius-Microsoft deal highlighted how valuable GPU access has become and why markets are rewarding miners with scalable infrastructure.

In a world of cursed videogame collaborations, Genshin Impact being in Among Us might be a top contender

by admin September 9, 2025

Nope, it’s not a trick of the eye: Genshin Impact is making its way into Among Us. I don’t know either.

It’s somehow not even the most cursed gacha game matchup to happen in recent months—Infinity Nikki just wrapped up a rather drama-mired Stardew Valley collab, and gooner gacha Nikke is about to have Jill Valentine all caked up to fight some Raptures—but I’m still not sure how I feel about seeing a tiny little crewmate all uwu’d up.

🤫🔪#GenshinXAmongUs #ItStartsInNodKrai pic.twitter.com/vbsCSB61AmSeptember 8, 2025

The whole thing is part of celebrating Genshin’s upcoming 6.0 version, Luna I, which launches the same day as the collaboration. It’s adding new region Nod-Krai, story quests, and of course new banner characters to roll precious primogems on.

Among Us will be getting a Paimon costume—complete with wig and crown and everything—along with a Genshin-themed nameplate. In the collaboration announcement, Innersloth says “One of the Crewmates has been obsessed with playing Genshin Impact between tasks, so we had the pleasure of working with HoYoverse to cook up these cosmetics and satisfy your Paimon-ial needs for free.”

Of course, the idea of Paimon being a spaceship imposter has the artistically skilled going absolutely wild on X, and it’s a rare occasion where I can say my timeline has been utterly blessed with some of the most absurd Genshin/Among Us art known to man right now.

The collaboration starts on September 10 and runs for an entire month, ending on October 10. Sadly there’ll be no tiny spacesuit dweebs running around Teyvat anytime soon, but folks who log into Genshin Impact will be able to grab a free five-star unit, including:

  • Dehya
  • Keqing
  • Mona
  • Qiqi
  • Jean
  • Tighnari
  • Diluc
  • Mizuki

While collaborations are pretty rare for Genshin—which probably explains a lack of anything Among Us-y—Innersloth’s social deception game has been going full Fortnite as of late. It’s added in cosmetics from the likes of Yakuza, Spirit City: Lofi Sessions, Ace Attorney, Vox Machina, and Undertale over the years.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

Crewmates have also shown up in the likes of Balatro, Super Monkey Ball, Vampire Survivors, and The Binding of Isaac.

Marathon Digital Treasury Now 2nd-Largest Among Public Firms

by admin September 7, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

According to a press release, MARA Holdings, Inc. now reports holdings valued at close to $6 billion, totaling 52,477 BTC. That level puts the miner among the largest public corporate Bitcoin holders, trailing only Michael Saylor’s Strategy in the public treasury rankings.

Mining Output And Treasury Growth

MARA produced a little over 700 BTC in August, and it kept an average pace of 22.7 BTC mined per day for the month.

Bitcoin’s price fell about 5% during the period; prices peaked near $124,400 mid-month before slipping toward $107,000. Based on reports, the company chose to add to its treasury rather than sell, buying the dip and increasing its Bitcoin reserve to the current level.

“Given the decline in Bitcoin price during the month, we took the opportunity to add to our treasury and currently hold over 52,000 BTC,” CEO Fred Thiel said.

Hashrate Gains And Site Progress

The firm said its energized hashrate edged up to 59.4 EH/s. All miners at MARA’s Texas wind farm are installed and connected, and the company says that site is on track to be fully operational by the fourth quarter of 2025.

Production momentum carried into the summer: block wins rose by 27% in July after recovery at the Ellendale site, lifting monthly output from 591 BTC in June to 692 BTC in July, before the 705 BTC recorded in August.

Bitcoin is currently trading at $110,864. Chart: TradingView

Position Among Public Holders

Reports have disclosed that MARA ranks second among public companies by Bitcoin holdings, with Michael Saylor’s Strategy still in the lead, holding about 636,505 BTC following a disclosed additional purchase worth $449 million.

Other firms listed near the top include Twenty One with 43,514 BTC, Bitcoin Standard Treasury Company with 30,020 BTC, and Bullish with 24,000 BTC.

Meanwhile, shareholders have seen a total return of 700% over the past five years. That long-term gain contrasts with more muted recent returns, as Bitcoin’s swings and high operating costs have weighed on performance.

Expansion Moves And Europe Push

MARA is also moving beyond mining. The company announced plans to buy a 64% stake in Exaion, a unit of French energy company EDF, with an option to boost ownership to one-third by 2027.

The stated goal is to pair MARA’s infrastructure with AI-driven edge solutions to lower costs and serve Europe’s growing AI needs.

MARA is building its place as one of the biggest Bitcoin holders. With 52,477 BTC worth almost $6 billion, the company has secured a leading spot among public firms.

Hollow Knight: Silksong sinks to ‘Mixed’ Steam review status among Chinese gamers over its bafflingly bad translation, with Team Cherry promising to improve it

by admin September 6, 2025

As reported by Eurogamer, Hollow Knight: Silksong has not met Chinese players’ expectations the way it has globally, with a 42% positive “Mixed” review status from nearly 20,000 Chinese language users, who say that the game’s localization was abysmally, uniquely poor.

Team Cherry has already responded to the issue, promising to work on the Chinese localization. “We appreciate you letting us know about quality issues with the current Simplified Chinese translation of Hollow Knight: Silksong,” wrote the game’s publishing and marketing lead, Matthew Griffin. “We’ll be working to improve the translation over the coming weeks.”

To our Chinese speaking fans:We appreciate you letting us know about quality issues with the current Simplified Chinese translation of Hollow Knight: Silksong. We’ll be working to improve the translation over the coming weeks. Thanks for your feedback and support.September 5, 2025

The reception among Chinese speaking reviewers sharply contrasts with Silksong’s reviews in all other languages it’s available in, with an overall 80% “Very Positive” rating among over 80,000 reviews worldwide. Of about 16,000 negative reviews worldwide, 11,800 of them are in Simplified Chinese.

Related articles

Some commenters on Griffin’s post have tried to elaborate on the specific issues at hand. Tiger Tang, who led the Chinese localization of 2020 RPG Omori, wrote that the main issues in Silksong’s localization are creative, not grammatical. “The current Silksong CN translation reads like a Wuxia novel instead of conveying the game’s tone,” said Tang. “This isn’t about effort, but about taste and direction, and speaking from experience likely can’t be fixed without replacing the translator.”

Others in the comments noted the same bizarre, anachronistic quality Tang mentions, while it also reportedly devolves into total gibberish in places. Kotaku cited criticism from translation expert Loek van Kooten, who called Silksong’s Chinese dialogue the equivalent of “a high-school drama club’s Elizabethan improv night.” Silksong had two people credited for its Chinese localization, versus the first game’s team of six.

In a final twist, one of those two translators, Hertzz Liu, appears to have been leaking details about the much-anticipated Silksong on social media. A June comment on the r/Silksong subreddit by user Infinite-Lake-7523 includes a screenshot of a Q&A on the Chinese site Tieba from a user named “Hertzzz.” Infinite-Lake-7523 ironically thought this was a hoax, but said Herzz(zz) estimated a pre-Christmas release date and shared some of their plans for the localization.

Is it still a “review bomb” if people are understandably upset over a defective product? The current Chinese translation of Silksong sounds like that infamous “restoration” of Ecce Homo. With issues this extensive and structural, I would expect Team Cherry to commit to an entirely new Chinese localization, but that will likely take some time.

Researchers find alarming overlaps among 18 popular VPNs

by admin September 4, 2025

A new peer-reviewed study alleges that 18 of the 100 most-downloaded virtual private network (VPN) apps on the Google Play Store are secretly connected in three large families, despite claiming to be independent providers. The paper doesn’t indict any of our picks for the best VPN, but the services it investigates are popular, with 700 million collective downloads on Android alone.

The study, published in the journal of the Privacy Enhancing Technologies Symposium (PETS), doesn’t just find that the VPNs in question failed to disclose behind-the-scenes relationships, but also that their shared infrastructures contain serious security flaws. Well-known services like Turbo VPN, VPN Proxy Master and X-VPN were found to be vulnerable to attacks capable of exposing a user’s browsing activity and injecting corrupted data.

Titled “Hidden Links: Analyzing Secret Families of VPN apps,” the paper was inspired by an investigation by VPN Pro, which found that several VPN companies each were selling multiple apps without identifying the connections between them. This spurred the “Hidden Links” researchers to ask whether the relationships between secretly co-owned VPNs could be documented systematically.

Starting from the list of the most-downloaded VPNs on Android, the researchers compiled data from each VPN’s business paperwork, web presence and codebase and sifted through it for connections. Primarily through identifying suspicious similarities in the code, they were able to sort 18 VPN apps into three groups.

Family A consists of Turbo VPN, Turbo VPN Lite, VPN Monster, VPN Proxy Master, VPN Proxy Master Lite, Snap VPN, Robot VPN and SuperNet VPN. These were found to be shared between three providers — Innovative Connecting, Lemon Clove and Autumn Breeze. All three have all been linked to Qihoo 360, a firm based in mainland China and identified as a “Chinese military company” by the US Department of Defense.

Family B consists of Global VPN, XY VPN, Super Z VPN, Touch VPN, VPN ProMaster, 3X VPN, VPN Inf and Melon VPN. These eight services, which are shared between five providers, all use the same IP addresses from the same hosting company.

Family C consists of X-VPN and Fast Potato VPN. Although these two apps each come from a different provider, the researchers found that both used very similar code and included the same custom VPN protocol.

If you’re a VPN user, this study should concern you for two reasons. The first problem is that companies entrusted with your private activities and personal data are not being honest about where they’re based, who owns them or who they might be sharing your sensitive information with. Even if their apps were all perfect, this would be a severe breach of trust.

But their apps are far from perfect, which is the second problem. All 18 VPNs across all three families use the Shadowsocks protocol with a hard-coded password, which makes them susceptible to takeover from both the server side (which can be used for malware attacks) and the client side (which can be used to eavesdrop on web activity).

Ultimately, a VPN provider being dishonest about its background and a VPN client running on slapdash infrastructure are symptoms of the same problem: these are apps designed to do something other than keep you safe online. Since all 18 were listed as unrelated products, it’s also clear that app stores are not an effective line of defense. The “Hidden Links” paper makes it all the more imperative to never download a free VPN without vetting it first, and to only use free VPNs that are supported by paid subscriptions, like Proton VPN.

Apple, Nvidia, Amazon Among Mag 7 Exposure Coming to Coinbase

by admin September 2, 2025

Coinbase Derivatives said it will introduce a new type of equity index futures contract later this month, offering investors exposure to both leading U.S. technology stocks and cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in a single product.

Launching Sept. 22, the Mag7 + Crypto Equity Index Futures will be the first U.S.-listed derivatives contracts to combine traditional equities with digital assets, according to a blog post.

The move, said the company, marks expansion beyond single-asset derivatives into multi-asset offerings designed to give investors thematic exposure to innovation and growth sectors.

The new index includes ten components weighted equally at 10% each. It consists of the so-called “Magnificent 7” stocks — Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, Nvidia, Meta and Tesla — along with Coinbase’s own stock and two crypto ETFs: BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) and iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA). MarketVector, known for its crypto and thematic indexes, will serve as the official index provider.

Contracts will be monthly and cash-settled, with each representing $1 multiplied by the index level. At an index value of $3,000, for example, the notional value of one contract would be $3,000. The index will be rebalanced quarterly to restore equal weighting across all components.

Coinbase framed the product as a way for investors to manage multi-asset risk more efficiently while gaining exposure to both sides of the innovation economy — Silicon Valley tech leaders and blockchain-native assets.

“Equity index futures mark the next evolution of our product suite and pave the way for a new era of multi-asset derivatives,” the company said in its announcement.

The launch comes amid growing investor appetite for crossover products that bridge traditional finance and crypto markets. Coinbase said it plans to expand availability of the contracts to retail users in the months ahead, though they will initially trade on partner platforms.

Crypto Interest Trails AI and Humanoids Among Future Finance Leaders, Morgan Stanley Intern Survey Shows

by admin August 24, 2025

The phrase “we are still early” remains a popular sentiment in the crypto community in 2025, suggesting that despite bitcoin’s (BTC) price surpassing $100,000, the overall adoption of digital assets is still in its infancy.

Morgan Stalney’s recent survey of financial professionals confirms this sentiment. The investment banking giant surveyed more than 500 summer interns in North America from June 10 to 27, and 147 summer interns in Europe from June 26 to July 7.

The survey revealed that only 18% of interns own or use cryptocurrencies, increasing from 13% the previous year. Meanwhile, the percentage of interns interested in digital assets has risen to 26% from 23%. Meanwhile, 55% still do not care for digital assets, a majority, although the number has receded from 63% last year.

The widespread lack of interest appears significant, especially considering that BTC has already gained acceptance on Wall Street through the introduction of ETFs.

The 11 spot BTC ETFs have amassed $53.7 billion in investor wealth since their debut in January last year, according to data source Farside Investors. Ether ETFs have registered an inflow of $12.4 billion. Corporations are rapidly adding both assets to their balance sheets.

BTC’s price has surpassed $100,000 this year, gaining a foothold in institutional investor portfolios. Ether hit a record high of over $4,800 on Friday.

Morgan Stanley’s AI intern explainer video. (Morgan Stanley)

More open to AI

The survey revealed a clear adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) by future finance industry leaders, with 96% of U.S. interns and 91% of their European counterparts reporting the use of technology at least occasionally.

The consensus is that AI is effective, with nearly all respondents agreeing they “save me time” and are “easy to use”. However, 88% of interns also had a nuanced view, believing the technology still “needs accuracy improvement.”

The widespread adoption is consistent with the sentiment on Wall Street, where the Mag 7 firms are expected to spend $650 billion in capital expenditures and research and development this year.

Trillion dollar humanoids market

The survey revealed that most interns are interested in owning humanoids, or sophisticated machines designed with a human-like form and capabilities, but are cautious about their impact on society.

Over 60% of U.S. interns and 69% of European interns expressed interest in having a humanoid at home, with both regions believing the robots will have “viable use cases” and replace many human jobs.

Still, only 36% of U.S. interns and 24% of Europeans agreed that humanoids will have a positive impact on society.

Morgan Stanley estimates that the humanoid market could surpass $5 trillion by 2050, including sales from supply chains and networks for repair, maintenance and support.

“Although humanoids are still under development, there could be more than 1 billion by 2050, with 90% used for industrial and commercial purposes,” the investment banking giant said in a report in May.

CRCL, COIN, MSTR Among Crypto Stock Rally as Powell Signals Possible September Rate Cuts

by admin August 23, 2025

Crypto-linked stocks and digital assets surged on Friday after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell signaled that the central bank could begin cutting interest rates as soon as September.

The tone marked a shift after weeks of growing investor doubt that the Fed would act before year-end.

Bitcoin BTC$115,897.19 and ether (ETH) both moved higher following Powell’s remarks, as did the S&P 500 and Nasdaq. Shares tied directly to the crypto sector posted some of the sharpest moves of the day.

At the time of writing, Circle (CRCL) led the pack with a 7% jump. eToro (ETOR) and Marathon Digital (MARA) each climbed 6%, while Coinbase (COIN) rose 5%. MicroStrategy (MSTR), which holds billions in bitcoin, gained 4%, and Robinhood (HOOD) advanced 3%.

The moves underscored how tightly crypto assets and equities remain linked to expectations for U.S. monetary policy. Lower interest rates typically ease financial conditions, encouraging risk-taking and increasing the appeal of speculative assets.

U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly called on the Fed to ease borrowing costs. Powell, however, emphasized that inflation risks remain and the labor market continues to show signs of strain.

Still, he suggested the calculus is evolving. “The balance of risks appears to be shifting,” Powell said, adding that while the jobs picture looks stable on the surface, “it is a curious kind of balance that results from a marked slowing in both the supply of and demand for workers.”

That cautious framing helped reassure markets that the Fed is potentially preparing to move to cut rates but not rushing into a decision. Investors had grown less confident about a September cut after a series of firmer-than-expected economic readings. Friday’s comments put the possibility back in play.
