A Bop It! toy floating above a city

The adaptation you’ve been waiting for since 1996 is finally here: Bop It! is now a videogame

by admin September 19, 2025

Videogames are great but don’t you wish they had more bopping? And not just more bopping, but also more twisting and pulling, perhaps of… I don’t know, some sort of nebulous… it? And most importantly, a loud voice telling you exactly when you should bop it, twist it, and/or pull it?

Your oddly specific prayers have finally been answered, because nearly 30 years after the discovery of the cursed Pandora’s Box-like artifact known as Bop It!—which demanded its user perform ritualistic bopping, twisting, and pulling of its button, knob, and handle in the precise pattern needed to finally release the prophesied Loud One, known as Bophomet, upon the world to reign for all time—is now a videogame.

It’s called Bop It! The Video Game and it’s on Steam. Check out the trailer below, which goes a little something like this:

Related articles

“Bop it! Twist it! Pull it! Twist it! Bop it! Pull it! Twist it! Pull it! Bop it! Twist it! Pull it! Twist it! Bop it! Twist it! Pull it! Twist it! Bop it! Pull it!”

The Steam page promises (or threatens) “Hot Bop It! Action!” for one or two players (in local co-op), plus a global leaderboard to see how you stack up against other hot boppers. And there’s not just classic mode but an “EXTREME” mode (caps theirs) where you can also be yelled at to “Spin it!” and “Flick it!” on an evolved version of the Bop It! that has grown two appendages. Chilling.

I unfortunately have never had the pleasure of playing or even seeing an actual Bop It!, which crossed over into our dimension back in 1996. Yet I somehow know all about it, as if it revealed itself to me in a dream or some troubling vision. This is my chance, I suppose, to finally bop, twist, and pull the Bop It! for myself, if only virtually.

Wish me luck. According to the Steam page, “the best part of Bop It! The Video Game is that the levels never end: as long as you can stay in, the game will keep going.” If you never hear from me again, it may be because I now bop eternal.

Neil Druckmann will continue to “shepherd” HBO’s Last of Us adaptation after stepping down as co-showrunner

by admin September 13, 2025

Neil Druckmann has shed more light on why he stepped back from HBO’s The Last of Us.

Speaking to Variety, the Naughty Dog exec said he’d reached the goals he’d set out with adapting the game to screen.

“I wanted to elevate The Last of Us beyond the people that have played the game,” said Druckmann. “I felt like that story could find a bigger audience for people that will never play video games.”

Druckmann decided to depart from the series once the team had entered the writers’ room for its third season.

“I looked at what’s in front of me, what the next season might look like [alongside] all the various games I’m working on [and] felt like I could better serve all of my responsibilities if I stayed at a higher level,” he explained.

“It was quite challenging to be involved as a co-showrunner on season 1 and season 2 while running a studio [alongside] working, directing, and writing a game.”

Druckmann added: “Naughty Dog is bigger than any one person. There’s been a lot of big personalities that have come through [the studio], and while I was working on the show there were a lot of people that stepped up: Matthew Gallant (game director), Claire Carré (narrative director), Kurt Margenau (game director), and Alison Mori (studio manager).

“They really allowed me to do this other thing for a while and help set up the show.”

While he’s stepped away from the showrunning side of things, Druckmann said he hopes to still contribute in other ways.

“As much as I miss getting into the weeds, working on the effects shots, giving script notes, and really getting into the details of it, I’m trying to just shepherd it.

“My hope for season 3, and what I’d like to think I can best contribute to it, is to make sure it’s as deeply faithful as season one was. So that’s where my involvement will stay at that very, very high level.”

Druckmann also shared data that suggested the series has boosted players of The Last of Us on PlayStation and PC – much like the influence of Amazon’s Fallout series.

“People have watched the show and have bought a PlayStation or PC and have played The Last Of Us,” he said. “[Its] become this gateway for them, for this medium that I love so much.”

Upcoming Bioshock Movie Adaptation Based On The First Game

by admin September 10, 2025

Now that the film and TV industries have finally cracked the code to making decent, sometimes great, live-action adaptations of video games, there’s actually good reason to pay attention to the developments of these works. To be excited about them, even. One of the latest games to get the treatment is none other than Xbox 360-era darling BioShock. The first one (not Infinite, thank god).

As reported by The Direct, producer Roy Lee (A Minecraft Movie, Weapons, The Long Walk) said that while everything else about the movie must be kept secret, “it’s definitely going to be based on the first BioShock game.” The deep sea adaptation hit a snag after some necessary script work, but it looks like it’s on track; now it just awaits director Francis Lawrence (Constantine, The Hunger Games, The Long Walk) who first has to wrap work on The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

While I’ve been something of a hater of the non-stop barrage of live-action video game adaptations, I find the idea of bringing the first BioShock “to life” as a big-budget movie a neat proposition. Sure, the story is the most obvious expression of why Atlas Shrugged’s themes are stupid, but the setting, the underwater city of Rapture, was a real treat to explore, and seeing it reproduced on the big screen should be a treat.

As a thematic device, Rapture is a pretty straightforward tool for skewering libertarian-minded politics, but as a setting, it’s dreamy and atmospheric, with tremendous potential for some seriously cool set and prop design. And if Francis Lawrence’s work on 2007’s I Am Legend is anything to go by, the man knows how to work well with evocative settings. Who knows, maybe we’ll take some better lessons away from this trip down to the doomed ocean floor city than we did the first time.

Amazon greenlights a Life is Strange series adaptation

by admin September 6, 2025

With Hollywood video game adaptations surging, it was only a matter of time before Life is Strange got the treatment. After all, even platformer and sandbox game adaptations have (shockingly) found success in this new era. A well-written adventure game seems like a much shorter leap. Amazon announced on Friday that Prime Video has ordered a series based on the 2015 game.

Like Don’t Nod’s classic, the series will blend angsty teenage realism with supernatural elements and moral choices. And Amazon’s teaser synopsis points to a familiar storyline. “The story follows Max, a photography student, who discovers she can rewind time while saving the life of her childhood best friend, Chloe,” the announcement reads. “As she struggles to understand this new skill, the pair investigate the mysterious disappearance of a fellow student, uncovering a dark side to their town that will ultimately force them to make an impossible life-or-death choice that will impact them forever.”

British writer and actor Charlie Covell (End of the F***ing World, KAOS) will chart the series’ creative course. They’ll serve as creator, executive producer and showrunner. Story Kitchen’s Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg and Timothy I. Stevenson will executive produce the show. Square Enix and LuckyChap are all part of the project, too. Amazon MGM Studios will produce it.

Series showrunner Charlie Covell

(Charlie Covell / Amazon)

Covell wants the series to appeal to both newcomers and fans of the games. “It’s a huge honor to be adapting Life Is Strange for Amazon MGM Studios,” they said in Amazon’s press release. “I am a massive fan of the game, and I’m thrilled to be working with the incredible teams at Square Enix, Story Kitchen and LuckyChap. I can’t wait to share Max and Chloe’s story with fellow players and new audiences alike.”

Amazon has been an eager participant in this new “Video Game Adaptations That Don’t Suck” era. Earlier this week, it announced that Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner will step into Lara Croft’s boots for its upcoming Tomb Raider series. Season two of Prime Video’s acclaimed Fallout arrives later this year. Its first trailer teases the show’s first appearance of the game’s dreaded Deathclaws.

Meanwhile, back in the gaming world, Square Enix is still churning out Life is Strange titles. In 2024, Max returned in Double Exposure, the first direct sequel to the original game’s story. Don’t Nod spun out its own spiritual sequel to the series, Lost Records: Bloom & Rage, earlier this year.

Netflix’s animated Tomb Raider adaptation reportedly ending after second season

by admin September 6, 2025

Netflix’s animated Tomb Raider series seems to be coming to an end.

That’s according to Variety, which reports that the second season of Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft may be its last following its premiere on December 11, 2025.

GamesIndustry.biz has reached out to Netflix for further clarification.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft was initially announced in 2021, premiering on October 10, 2024. It was renewed for a second season shortly after.

The animated series isn’t the only recent adaptation of the video game franchise.

Yesterday it was announced that Amazon’s live-action Tomb Raider series will begin production on January 19, 2026, with Sophie Turner as Lara Croft.

The series was greenlit in May 2024, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge at the helm alongside Wayward Pines creator Chad Hodge and Shōgun director Jonathan van Tulleken.

Amazon’s Tomb Raider adaptation to begin production in January 2026, Sophie Turner to star as Lara Croft

by admin September 5, 2025

Production on Amazon’s Tomb Raider series will begin on January 19, 2026, with Sophie Turner confirmed to star as Lara Croft.

As Variety reports, the adaptation is helmed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge alongside Wayward Pines creator Chad Hodge. Waller-Bridge will also serve as creator, writer, and executive producer.

Shōgun director Jonathan van Tulleken is also attached to direct the series, as well as executive produce.

“I’m so excited to announce the formidable Sophie Turner as our Lara alongside this phenomenal creative team,” said Waller-Bridge.

“It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving. Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara and are all as outrageous, brave, and hilarious as she is.”

Turner added: “I’m thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft. She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to many – and I’m giving everything I’ve got.

“They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina [Jolie] and Alicia [Vikander] with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands.”

Amazon MGM Studios greenlit Waller-Bridge’s Tomb Raider series in May 2024. Crystal Dynamics will serve as a producer and executive producer, alongside Story Kitchen and Waller-Bridge’s Wells Street Productions.

“When adventurer Lara Croft discovers a trail of stolen African Orisha masks, she joins forces with her best friend Sam to retrieve the precious artifacts,” reads the season two description. “Lara’s thrilling new adventure takes her around the globe as she delves deeper into the hidden secrets of Orisha history, dodging the machinations of a dangerous and enigmatic billionaire who wants the masks for herself, while discovering these relics contain dark secrets and a power that defies logic. Iron Lung creator gives glowing first impression of Markiplier’s movie adaptation

by admin September 3, 2025

David Syzmanski, creator of the hit indie horror game Iron Lung, gave his first impressions of Markiplier’s long-awaited movie adaptation — and his takeaway should make fans excited.

YouTube star Mark ‘Markiplier‘ Fischbach first announced his ambitious plan to bring Iron Lung to the big screen in early 2023 with a cinematic trailer that mimicked the dark ambience of its namesake.

It’s been over two years since the project was revealed, with the YouTuber giving sporadic updates on the film here and there, saying it was “officially done” in summer 2024.

Things have been comparatively quiet in the year after, with Markiplier saying he’s bent on giving the flick a theatrical release. He’s been working closely alongside Iron Lung’s creator, indie game developer David Syzmanski, who’s gotten a first look at the full film.

Iron Lung creator praises Markiplier’s movie as “very good”

Syzmanski opened up about his impression of the movie in an episode of the Quad Damage Podcast on September 2, 2025 — and it’s safe to say that he’s thoroughly impressed by Mark’s interpretation of his vision.

“It is very good,” Syzmanski said. “I know I am the least unbiased source you could hear from, but the movie is very good. I don’t think people are ready for it.

“It’s a proper ‘movie’ movie. It’s not just, ‘Here, let’s make a fun little movie from the game.’ It’s a serious, proper horror film.”

He reiterated that Markiplier is focused on bringing the flick to theaters, revealing that the project was created “from the ground up” with a theatrical release in mind.

“That’s the hope,” he said when asked about the topic. “That’s why it’s not out yet. The plan has always been for it to release in theaters. It was filmed and scored and everything as a theatrical release. The sound for the movie was created and mixed for a theater, and it makes full use of that.”

(Topic begins at 50 minutes)

Markiplier has admitted that the one thing holding back Iron Lung’s release is his refusal to compromise putting the flick in theaters. Once that happens, fans can finally expect to see it on the silver screen.

“I’m not accepting anything less than theatrical,” he said during an October 18 live stream. “That movie needs to be in theaters. There have been opportunities besides that, but I have not taken them…That’s what I want. That’s what I aim for, and that’s what I think it deserves.”

Markiplier has been intermittently uploading YouTube videos whenever he gets a break from putting the final touches on his movie — a project that has resulted in a few serious injuries for the star, including a hospital visit that resulted from him creating one of the bloodiest scenes in film history.

Call of Duty film adaptation officially in the works from Paramount

by admin September 2, 2025

A live-action film adaptation of Call of Duty is in the works at Paramount, having signed a deal with Activision Blizzard.

Paramount – now under media company Skydance – has announced the news (thanks Deadline), with CEO David Ellison a big fan of the series. Activision will be a creative partner on the film.

“As a lifelong fan of Call of Duty this is truly a dream come true,” said Ellison. “From the first Allied campaigns in the original Call of Duty, through Modern Warfare and Black Ops, I’ve spent countless hours playing this franchise that I absolutely love. Being entrusted by Activision and players worldwide to bring this extraordinary storytelling universe to the big screen is both an honour and a responsibility that we don’t take lightly.”

The film will follow the studio’s 2022 film Top Gun: Maverick. “We’re approaching this film with the same disciplined, uncompromising commitment to excellence that guided our work on Top Gun: Maverick, ensuring it meets the exceptionally high standards this franchise and its fans deserve,” continued Ellison.

“I can promise that we are resolute in our mission to deliver a cinematic experience that honours the legacy of this one-in-a-million brand – thrilling longtime fans of Call of Duty while captivating a whole new generation.”

President of Activision Rob Kostich added: “Throughout its history, Call of Duty has captured our imagination with incredible action and intense stories that have brought millions of people together from around the world, and that focus on making incredible Call of Duty games remains unwavering. With Paramount, we have found a fantastic partner who we will work with to take that visceral, breathtaking action to the big screen in a defining cinematic moment. The film will honour and expand upon what has made this franchise great in the first place, and we cannot wait to get started. Our shared goal is quite simple – to create an unforgettable blockbuster movie experience that our community loves, and one that also excites and inspires new fans of the franchise.”

Call of Duty is ripe for a cinematic adaptation, both for its action-packed setpieces and millions of sales.

It will follow other game adaptations in recent years, including Nintendo’s multiple projects, Sony’s The Last of Us TV show, FromSoftware’s massive Elden Ring, classic Sega racing game OutRun, and horror games like Phasmophobia and The Medium.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.
