First Play Acclaim presentation reveals new game lineup

by admin September 12, 2025

Yesterday, Acclaim held their frist Play Acclaim presentation, revealing the first wave of games in their return.

Acclaim, the legendary gaming icon, today held  its inaugural “Play Acclaim” video presentation, revealing a dynamic first wave of games that mark the company’s bold return to the industry. The full presentation is now available to watch on Acclaim’s YouTube channel, and fans can explore more at www.PlayAcclaim.com. The Play Acclaim showcase featured nine unique titles, blending innovative gameplay with nostalgic flair: Talaka, GRIDBeat!, Pixel Washer, TossDown, Hyper Yuki, Ground Zero Hero, Basketball Classic, The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest. In addition, in a special surprise announcement, Katanaut is available now!“We’re ecstatic to relaunch Acclaim with a lineup that captures our legacy of bold creativity and delivers fresh, unforgettable experiences,” said Alex Josef, CEO of Acclaim. “These games are just the beginning of our mission to redefine fun for players everywhere.” Highlights from the lineup include:

TossDown (PC, Developer: Fer Factor):  Run, jump, and dash through chaos, dodging hazards and enemies as you deliver packages. Fight back with wacky power-ups and chaos from a variety of perks to improve your chances of survival. It’s Crazy Taxi meets Jet Set Radio!

Ground Zero Hero (PC, Developer: Rowan Edmondson): Ground Zero Hero is an action-roguelite with light survival elements set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Battle mutated freaks, absorb their radioactive guts, mutate yourself to gain new powers… and eat a lot of candy.

Basketball Classics (Nintendo Switch, Developer: Namo Gamo): A 5 on 5 Pro Basketball game born from the golden era of sports games. This spiritual successor to the 8-bit ballers bridges the gap between retro and today’s simulation games. Side-scrolling, sweaty arcade action with simplified 3-button gameplay and retro vibes galore.

Pixel Washer (PC, Developer: Valadria): Step into the hooves of Pigxel, a plucky pig armed with a powerful power washer, tasked with cleaning up a messy town. Wielding your trusty washer, you’ll spray your way through a variety of exciting challenges, from hosing down stunning pixel art masterpieces in a filthy museum to transforming a muddy pigsty into a shimmering pixelated paradise and more.

The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest (PC, Developer: Elden Pixels): Step into the mind of Fletcher Howie Jr, a game developer on the brink of physical and emotional burnout during the final stages of an intense project. After a visit to the psychologist that goes horribly wrong, you must escape your perilous mental prison in a Metroidvania drenched in anxiety based on a very true story.

GRIDBeat! (PC, Developer: Ridiculous Games): Step behind the keyboard of a shadowy hacker and move to the beat as you infiltrate virtual dungeons teeming with traps to evade and systems to hack.  Featuring more than 50 neon-saturated stages to explore and endless additional content in the form of user-generated stages, GRIDBeat! will put your skills and your rhythm to the test.

Talaka (PC, Developer: Potato Kid): A fast-paced, combat-driven roguelite that brings Afro-Brazilian mythology to life in a vivid, hand-painted world unlike anything you’ve seen.

Hyper Yuki (PC, Developer: Wabisabi Design, Inc): A high-speed, trick-fueled snowboarding bonanza wrapped in a slick, retro-futurist Y2K aesthetic. Inspired by 90s legends like Cool Boarders and SSX, you’ll shred through eight over-the-top courses packed with chances to pull off jaw-dropping tricks—all set to an electrifying soundtrack featuring YMCK, Trasto NueveVidas, and more.

Katanaut (PC, Developer: Voidmaw): An action-roguelite set aboard a massive space station falling into cosmic chaos. With the station slowly spiraling out of control, and its once-human inhabitants twisted into terrors, you’re the unlucky one tasked with uncovering what is going on… assuming you’re able to survive the station’s violent halls with souls-like combat.

The “Acclaim Direct” presentation, now streaming on Acclaim’s YouTube channel, features gameplay trailers and a glimpse into Acclaim’s bold future. Acclaim invites gamers, media, and industry partners to join the journey by watching the presentation, following Acclaim on social media, and visiting www.PlayAcclaim.com for updates on demos, betas, and future “Acclaim Direct” showcases.

Acclaim returns, announces “Play Acclaim” Showcase on September 10th

by admin August 27, 2025

Yesterday, publisher Acclaim came back from the dead and announced that their first “Play Acclaim” Showcase will take place on September 10th at 2:30PM ET/11:30AM PT.

Acclaim is back. Not as a reboot, but a rebirth for the iconic publisher that dominated players’ living rooms for more than two decades. Acclaim today announced the first “Play Acclaim” showcase and released a new teaser video.  The Showcase will take place on the official Acclaim YouTube channel on September 10th at 2:30PM ET/11:30AM PT. Coming hot on the heels of last week’s social media reveal, it hints at what’s next for the brand, which saw its long-awaited return on March 4th, 2025.  This tantalizing tease offers a fleeting glimpse of Acclaim’s upcoming lineup of titles while celebrating the brand’s unforgettable legacy. Blink and you might miss it. Hidden in the static, behind the glow of CRT screens, are the titles that will lay the foundation for this exciting new chapter for Acclaim.

This isn’t nostalgia for its own sake. It’s something else: a kind of retrofuturenostalgia, paying homage to and embracing the brand’s unmistakable DNA and history while charting a bold new course into the future.

“We’re not here to chase ghosts,” said Alex Josef, CEO of Acclaim. “We’re here to take the energy and chaos that made Acclaim unforgettable and channel it into something new. The old screens are cracking, and what’s coming through is something exciting and different.” “You can’t rewrite the past,” Josef added. “But you can build upon it. This is about owning our story and moving it into a future that feels bold, energetic, and completely fresh.”

The Newly Revived Acclaim Is Hosting A Showcase Next Month

by admin August 27, 2025

On March 4, it was announced that defunct publisher Acclaim had been resurrected (again), this time as an indie publisher. After months of waiting, it’s time to learn what new games will bear that iconic rainbow logo thanks to the publisher’s first digital showcase.

On September 10, Acclaim will host the Play Acclaim showcase to reveal its lineup of upcoming titles. The news follows a series of teaser trailers posted to the publisher’s official YouTube channel (such as the one below), which is where the presentation will be broadcast. Play Acclaim will air at 11:30 a.m. PT/2:30 p.m. ET.

Acclaim was a household name in the ‘80s and ‘90s as a publisher for many well-known games and franchises, including Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam, Turok, numerous WWE titles, and even more licensed games. The publisher closed its doors in 2004 due to poor sales and failure to pay royalties to its licensors. The brand was acquired and revived in 2006 as Acclaim Games, a totally different entity focused on offering free online games from other territories. Acclaim Games was then shuttered in 2010.

This revived Acclaim will focus on the independent game scene, promising to provide funding, marketing, and PR support to smaller studios. Acclaim’s advisory board consists of Russell Binder at Striker Entertainment, Mark Caplan at Ridge Partners, and pro wrestler Jeff Jarrett at Global Force Entertainment.

“We’re not here to chase ghosts,” said Alex Josef, CEO of Acclaim in today’s press release. “We’re here to take the energy and chaos that made Acclaim unforgettable and channel it into something new. The old screens are cracking, and what’s coming through is something exciting and different.”
