Tekken 8 player accidentally takes out a PS5 in tournament-winning pop off

by admin June 23, 2025

Tekken player Shin Paulo won Iron Grid 34, a monthly local in New Jersey that attracts the best players from the state. He got a little too excited, though, and he wound up falling right into the table holding up the PS5 he was playing on.

While big tournaments like Combo Breaker, CEO, and Evo attract thousands of attendees, the real heart of the FGC is often the small local scenes where players sharpen their skills and get ready to show up at big events.

Iron Grid is one such event. Though it’s a smaller tournament, it’s also stacked. People who have been playing against each other for years get a chance once a month to show what they’re made of.

Shin Paulo wound up winning the tournament… and then had to fork over some of his winnings to fix the PS5 he accidentally knocked over.

Tekken 8 tournament pop off goes wrong

Shin Paulo took a dominant Grand Finals match over his opponent, ending it with a 3-0 round advantage in a 3-1 set. He didn’t just win the final match, he dominated.

Unfortunately, he used everything he had to win the final. Out of breath after the victory, he tried to walk forward but tripped, taking out the entire table that had the PS5 on it.

Fortunately for everyone involved, the actual console was fine. The fall didn’t damage the system, only the side plates meant to protect it.

Shin Paulo paid for a replacement side panel no questions asked, feeling bad for taking out the console but still very happy he won.

“I honestly felt i was stagnating in Tekken 8. And I wanted to improve but I couldn’t see it. This is a stepping stone,” he said after the win, apologizing for the “PS5 casualty”.

Iron Grid 35 will be happening on July 26. Hopefully every console will make it out ok this time. Meanwhile, it may be a good idea to see if you’ve got locals in your area. It can be a great way to ease your way into going to a big tournament like Evo if you’ve never competed in-person.

Sega just accidentally leaked its own sales numbers, and somehow Sonic Frontiers sold more than the last two mainline Yakuzas combined, but Persona 5’s putting the rest of the stable to shame

by admin June 22, 2025

First reported by VGC, Sega Sammy Holdings—Sega’s delightfully-named parent company—mistakenly uploaded sales numbers for 11 major games to a public page on the company website. ResetEra user –R uploaded the full table to the forum, allowing us to still peep those numbies after Sega took the original page down.

The original table charts earnings by fiscal year from 2020 to 2025, but for simplicity, here are the total units sold for each game across the entire span:

  • Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth: 1.66 million
  • Like a Dragon: The Man Who Erased His Name: 960,000
  • Persona 3 Reload: 2.07 million
  • Sonic Superstars: 2.43 million
  • Sonic Frontiers: 4.57 million
  • Total War: Warhammer 3: 2.34 million
  • Shin Megami Tensei V: 2.11 million
  • Yakuza: Like a Dragon: 2.86 million
  • Persona 5 Royal: 7.25 million
  • Team Sonic Racing: 3.50 million
  • Total War: Three Kingdoms: 3.21 million

The biggest surprise for me is how well Sonic games are selling to this day—possibly helped a great deal by the movies—as well as how slowly recent Yakuza/Like a Dragon games have sold by comparison. Sonic Frontiers moved almost as many units as Yakuza 7, Infinite Wealth, and The Man Who Erased His Name combined.

Frontiers is a game that seemed to come and go without much fanfare, while Like a Dragon appears to be at the height of its popularity. I wouldn’t worry about Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio or anything, though: Those are still strong showings, and the developer just cranks games out at an almost unheard-of pace for the 2020s game industry, more than making up for any one game’s relative lack of success.

Two more things stood out to me. First, nothing even comes close to Persona 5 Royal’s 7 million units sold, and this data doesn’t even account for Persona 5’s first three years of non-Royal circulation, likely putting its total north of 10 million.

Second are the notable omissions of Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii and especially Metaphor: ReFantazio. Both were perhaps excluded for having released too close to the end of Sega’s 2025 fiscal year, but Metaphor seems to have sold like gangbusters, and I’m very curious to know how it stacks up.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

IShowSpeed accidentally admits he was too scared to approach Messi

by admin June 15, 2025

IShowSpeed accidentally admitted to being too scared to approach soccer legend Lionel Messi after encountering him at the FIFA Club Football World Cup.

Speed was present in the stadium tunnel on June 15 ahead of Inter Miami and Al Ahly’s opening match of the tournament, which ultimately ended in a 0-0 draw between the two sides.

As the Inter Miami team made the walk through the tunnel, Speed, seeing Messi, said his name, but didn’t try to approach him.

Attempting to confirm with his chat and others around him, Speed said, “Chat, was that just Messi? No way, I just missed Messi. Ain’t no way.” After some back and forth confirmed that it was in fact Messi who walked past him, Speed continued, “I was just dumb close to Messi, bro. I’m scared.”

Segment begins at 10:10

Speed denies being scared of Messi

“We still got a chance, man,” Speed continued later in the stream, explaining why he didn’t make more of an effort to get Messi’s attention. “I didn’t expect it. When I saw him, I was like, Messi, right?

“I was about to go up to him. He walked past, and I was like ‘Oh, that’s him right there. That’s Messi. I was about to go up to him, and the bodyguard was like ‘What are you doing?’” he continued.

Denying claims from chat that he was too scared to act, he continued, “I didn’t freeze, though, chat. I didn’t freeze. I wasn’t scared. It just caught me by surprise, bro.”

After being further teased about being star-struck, Speed accidentally let slip, again, that he was too nervous, stating that his friend, Slipz, was “scared too.” Realizing what he’d just said, Speed backtracked, “I mean no, Slipz was scared. I wasn’t scared.”

Speed’s love of soccer is well known. Whether he’ll get another opportunity to meet with Messi properly, as he has with other soccer legends like Cristiano Ronaldo, remains to be seen.

A Resonance: Plague Tale Legacy accidentally leaks online

by admin June 8, 2025

A new A Plague Tale game is on the way: Resonance.

A teaser popped up prematurely on Focus Entertainment’s Threads account before it was quickly deleted… if not quite quickly enough for someone to grab a copy of it first and post it to reddit, of course.

Resonance A Plague Tale Legacy Reveal Teaser.Watch on YouTube

As for what it shows? Well, not much. At just 15 seconds long, you can blink and see it, but it’s officially called Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. It appears to show what may well be a prequel based on Sophia.

It’s slated to arrive in 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series. It’s possible it’ll pop up again in this evening’s Xbox Games Showcase. Just try and feign surprise.

Need to catch up? Here’s everything that was announced at Summer Game Fest 2025, and here’s everything that happened at Sony’s June 2025 record-breaking State of Play.

Switch 2 launch ends in disappointment for some as major retailer accidentally staples receipts into console's screen

Switch 2 launch ends in disappointment for some as major retailer accidentally staples receipts into console’s screen

by admin June 5, 2025

Switchmas Day is finally upon us, but some unlucky Switch 2 recipients have had a nasty surprise when unwrapping their presents from Miyamoto Claus. Reports have surfaced of retailers carelessly stapling receipts right through the console’s packaging and into its screen.

Anyone that’s already purchased a Switch 2 might have noticed just how neatly Nintendo’s squeezed the thing into its relatively small box. In order to achieve that compact footprint, the company has settled on a packing configuration that places the slimline console right at the top pile, up against the cardboard surroundings with just a thin sleeve to protect it from scratches.

It most cases, it’s a perfectly fine approach, but not when retailer carelessness – and improper use of a staple gun – is factored in. Numerous customers have taken to the internet following yesterday’s midnight launch to report they’d excitedly unpacked their Switch 2s, only to discover that staples used to attach their receipts to the front of the box had gone straight through two layers of cardboard, through the console’s protective sleeve, and become embedded right into Switch 2’s prominent screen.

“GameStop stapled the receipt for me and my friends Switch 2s to the box,” one disgruntled customer wrote on social media, adding an entirely understandable, “FML.” They also attached a sad image of their console’s shiny new display, now sporting two very noticeable puncture holes. Similar stories have been posted to the GameStop subreddit, although some have now been removed after they highlighted a specific GameStop store.

“This happened to me and another buddy [at the same GameStop]!”, one Redditor wrote in response to a now-deleted post. “Think the entire pre order batch is completely fucked.” IGN, which saw the posts prior their removal, reports the issue primarily appears to have impacted Switch 2’s purchased at one busy GameStop in New York, but it’s unclear if the aggressive frontal use of a staple gun is company policy across all its stores.

Eurogamer contacted GameStop for clarification on the extent of issue, to see what it’s doing to prevent similar occurrences elsewhere across its stores, and how it will be ensuring impacted customers receive a new Switch 2 in a timely manner – hopefully one that doesn’t whistle in the wind this time around. “We are currently investigating this matter,” a company spokesperson responded. “We will make the customer whole if there was damage.”

Activision Says It Accidentally Added More Ads To Call Of Duty

Activision Says It Accidentally Added More Ads To Call Of Duty

by admin June 4, 2025

Image: Activision / Kotaku

Last week, players noticed something gross and annoying in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone. Following a big update for the new season, many angry players spotted ads for bundles and battle passes in never-before-seen places, like inside the loadout menu. Activision now says this was all just a big whoopsie and has removed the ads.

Long-Lost Halo Demo Comes To Life

On May 29, Call of Duty news and rumors outlet CharlieIntel reported that players were encountering more ads in Black Ops 6 and Warzone following Call of Duty’s big season 4 update. The annoying and obtrusive ads were popping up in the loadout and the class creation menus, as well as in the events section of each game’s menus. The loadout menu in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone is likely the place in which players spend the most time when not actually shooting people in-game. And to suddenly see cosmetic and season pass ads shoved in here angered many. It seems the backlash was so intense that Activision stepped in to remove them all.

On June 2, the official Call of Duty “updates” account run by Activision tweeted out a short message addressing the annoying ads, explaining that they were added to the games “in error.”

“A UI feature test that surfaced select store content in the Loadout menus was published in the Season 04 update in error. This feature has now been removed from the live game,” said Activision.

Of course, many players didn’t buy this explanation, with some suggesting that Activision quietly added it in to see what the reaction would be, and when players went nuclear, backed off. Even if you take Activision’s word that it was mistakenly added, the fact that it was even testing the idea of adding more advertisements into more parts of Call of Duty means it was clearly being considered. And that’s concerning.

This is a franchise with some of the worst, most ad-riddled and ugly menus in all of modern video games. To shove even more ads into the few areas of CoD that are still useful and useable is gross, especially when you remember that Activision still charges $60+ for new Call of Duty games and sells an endless list of in-game cosmetics every day. Did the company really need to test out more ways to squeeze in ads? I don’t think so, and based on how players reacted, I’m sure Activision will be careful about adding more advertisements in the near future.

Activision claims Call of Duty loadout ads for microtransactions were a test it published accidentally following intense community outrage

by admin June 4, 2025

Activision has claimed advertisements for microtransactions Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone players were seeing on their loadouts were added by mistake, following intense community fallout.

This announcement came from the official Call of Duty Twitter account, which posted, “A UI feature test that surfaced select store content in the Loadout menus was published in the Season 04 update in error. This feature has now been removed from the live game.”

Reactions to this post aren’t exactly glowing in positivity. Twitter users expressed their disbelief in the statement, unconvinced that a feature like loadout ads were accidentally implemented, rather they were pulled down following negative feedback. One user wrote, “this some soviet era level gaslighting”.

You can watch the Season 4 trailer here, if you need a catch-up on what’s new.Watch on YouTube

This controversial addition at the weekend came alongside the game’s fourth season, and essentially meant that every time you swapped weapons you’d see a billboard-style poster shilling a premium skin. This, as you can imagine, went down like a lead balloon among the Call of Duty community, with one player on Reddit writing, “actively witnessing call of duty become the krusty krab”.

The Season 4 update also brought with it the returning Verdansk map to Warzone, widely believed to be the best map the game has ever had, with a variety of new additions to mix things up for older players.

At the same time, Activision continues its years-long struggle against cheaters, recently allowing players to turn off crossplay in order to help avoid cheaters, a nasty group of ne’er-do-wells Activision admits are most prominently found on PC.

Microsoft’s AI security chief accidentally reveals Walmart’s AI plans after protest

by admin May 21, 2025

Microsoft’s head of security for AI, Neta Haiby, accidentally revealed confidential messages about Walmart’s use of Microsoft’s AI tools during a Build talk that was disrupted by protesters.

The Build livestream was muted and the camera pointed down, but the session resumed moments later after the protesters were escorted out. In the aftermath, Haiby then accidentally switched to Microsoft Teams while sharing her screen, revealing confidential internal messages about Walmart’s upcoming use of Microsoft’s Entra and AI gateway services.

Haiby was co-hosting a Build session on best security practices for AI, alongside Sarah Bird, Microsoft’s head of responsible AI, when two former Microsoft employees disrupted the talk to protest against the company’s cloud contracts with the Israeli government.

“Sarah, you are whitewashing the crimes of Microsoft in Palestine, how dare you talk about responsible AI when Microsoft is fueling the genocide in Palestine,” shouted Hossam Nasr, an organizer with the protest group No Azure for Apartheid, and a former Microsoft employee who was fired for holding a vigil outside Microsoft’s headquarters for Palestinians killed in Gaza.

Walmart is one of Microsoft’s biggest corporate customers, and already uses the company’s Azure OpenAI service for some of its AI work. “Walmart is ready to rock and roll with Entra Web and AI Gateway,” says one of Microsoft’s cloud solution architects in the Teams messages. The chat session also quoted a Walmart AI engineer, saying: “Microsoft is WAY ahead of Google with AI security. We are excited to go down this path with you.”

We asked Microsoft to comment on this protest and the Teams messages, but the company did not respond in time for publication.

Both of the protesters involved in this latest Microsoft Build disruption were former Microsoft employees, with Vaniya Agrawal appearing alongside Nasr. Agrawal interrupted Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, former CEO Steve Ballmer, and CEO Satya Nadella later during the company’s 50th anniversary event last month. Agrawal was dismissed shortly after putting in her two weeks’ notice at Microsoft before the protest, according to an email seen by The Verge.

This latest protest comes days after Microsoft announced last week that it had conducted an internal review and used an unnamed external firm to assess how its technology is used in the war in Gaza. Microsoft says that its relationship with Israel’s Ministry of Defense (IMOD) is “structured as a standard commercial relationship” and that it has “found no evidence that Microsoft’s Azure and AI technologies, or any of our other software, have been used to harm people or that IMOD has failed to comply with our terms of service or our AI Code of Conduct.”
