I just found out I’ve been using Silksong’s powerful Thread Storm ability wrong this entire time

by admin September 15, 2025

I’m making my way slowly to the end of Act One in Silksong, and one of my mainstays has been Thread Storm, a powerful AOE multihit ability that can be acquired fairly early on. But I’ve been a fool: despite using the attack in multiple boss fights, I actually haven’t been getting as much damage out of it as I could’ve. Thanks to a PSA video from Jason Mondal on YouTube, I only just learned how to use Thread Storm to its full potential.

Instead of pressing or holding right bumper on a controller once to activate the ability, you can rapidly mash the button to extend its duration without using more silk, giving you more damage per cast. The only downside is that this leaves you vulnerable to a counterattack for longer, but that’s kind of the basic tradeoff of Thread Storm already.

My preferred deployment is at a diagonal, up and slightly to the side of a boss to get them in the AOE while having a good chance of avoiding any attacks. Against enemies who can be staggered by Thread Storm, though, there’s practically no disadvantage to using its max duration—this ability can be a huge help during any of those tricky wave fights.

Where to find Thread Storm in Hollow Knight: Silksong

You can grab Thread Storm in the second half of Act One, in the Greymoor area. Instead of traveling west on the critical path to Bellhart, go east, past where Shakra is selling the map for the area, until the path dead ends at a building you can enter.

Inside, you’ll find a tough wave fight that, frustratingly, Thread Storm would be a great help for. Beating this encounter causes ladders of balloons to spawn outside: You can perform a downward attack in the air to pogo off of them, climbing to the top of the room and the entrance to a new area. The shrine with Thread Storm is at the end of a platforming section in this final room.

‘Players ended up just shooting Doritos’: Battlefield 6 is toning down its aggressive ping ability after open beta feedback

by admin September 13, 2025

The Battlefield 6 beta felt like a throwback to an older era of Battlefield in all sorts of ways, but one of the big ones was its generous spotting mechanic: Slap that Q button in the general direction of a bad guy and their head got tagged with a scarlet “Dorito,” making them visible and vulnerable to the entire team.

The 3D spot is a staple of Battlefield that Battlefield Studios has no plans of abandoning again, but it agrees with players who thought spotting, and especially the Recon’s auto-spotting ability, was way too powerful in the open beta. In a recent interview with IGN, console combat designer Matthew Nickerson said changes are coming in the final game.

“We definitely reduced the range and overall reduced the power,” Nickerson said. “We found out a lot in open beta that it was obviously very strong, just like players said. Really, players ended up just shooting Doritos. Light environments, dark environments—they were just like, ‘Hey, aim at the Dorito. You’re going to hit something at the end of the day.’”

I wish that were hyperbole, but I’d guesstimate that a fourth of my kills in the open beta were enemies I never actually saw. It could hardly be helped: Those red diamonds shone clear as day through all the dust and smoke that filled the streets of Siege of Cairo, and if you didn’t take advantage of the intel, they surely would.

The planned changes will reduce the range and duration of pings, presumably meaning that you can’t just spam Q at a small black speck on a hill and conjure a Dorito. That said, I assume you can still mark locations with a non-tracking ping from a great distance, which theoretically accomplishes the same thing, but only your squad can see it.

“Again, we want the information. It’s important to ping players,” Nickerson added, “but it’s got to be an active part of Battlefield. It can’t just be a fire-and-forget sweep across the whole thing [and] everyone’s lit up. That was very apparent in open beta, so we’ve made some considerable changes to the system.”

You can read the IGN’s full interview with Nickerson and technical director Christian Buhl for more insights ahead of the Battlefield 6 launch, including the team’s reaction to leaks and updated stance on cosmetics.

Custodia Chief Doubts TradFi’s Ability To Handle Crypto Bear Market

by admin August 24, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

Custodia CEO and key crypto figure Caitlin Long has questioned the readiness of traditional finance firms for their first-ever crypto winter. Speaking with CNBC on Friday at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium 2025, Long emphasized that while Wall Street’s increasing involvement has fueled the current market cycle, its legacy systems and risk models may prove inadequate when the inevitable bear market returns.

Wall Street Titans May Not Be Ready For A Crypto Market Downturn –  Custodia Boss

In answering a question on the significance of institutional involvement in the crypto market, Long contrasted the early days of crypto, when retail investors and grassroots participants worked to expand decentralization and secure networks like Bitcoin and Ethereum, with today’s landscape dominated by institutional finance. According to the Custodia founder, the cycle is now largely driven by Wall Street titans who are building financial wrappers, derivatives, and corporate treasuries around digital assets.

Notably, institutional participation in crypto has hit record highs in recent years. The Spot Bitcoin ETFs, which launched early last year, have been TradFi’s biggest digital asset success, boasting $53.80 billion in cumulative inflows. Meanwhile, Spot Ethereum ETFs are beginning to gather momentum, registering $8.20 billion since the beginning of July alone.

While this influx has undoubtedly brought credibility and capital to the sector, Long warned that the traditional playbooks of these institutions are not suited to assets with finite supply, e.g, Bitcoin. The former Morgan Stanley executive and Custodia CEO said:

….They (TradFi) are perfectly comfortable taking more leverage than you would take with an asset of finite supply because they have all these mechanisms to bail them out in the event that supply for an asset becomes too tight. They have discount window. They have fault tolerances built into the securities system so that if the books don’t balance, it’s okay. They can always go the next day and get the shares from the market the next day.

By contrast, crypto operates in real time with no external buffers. Caitlin Long explains that this structural difference could leave TradFi firms exposed if they attempt to apply conventional leverage and hedging strategies to a market that behaves rather differently. Having witnessed multiple boom-and-bust cycles since 2012, the Custodia boss expressed certainty that another downturn will come despite the remarkable market growth in the present cycle, and questions whether traditional players will be able to withstand its impact.

Crypto Market Overview

At the time of writing, the total market crypto cap is valued at $3.95 trillion, following a minor 0.94% decline in the past day.

Anthropic’s Claude AI now has the ability to end ‘distressing’ conversations

by admin August 18, 2025

Anthropic’s latest feature for two of its Claude AI models could be the beginning of the end for the AI jailbreaking community. The company announced in a post on its website that the Claude Opus 4 and 4.1 models now have the power to end a conversation with users. According to Anthropic, this feature will only be used in “rare, extreme cases of persistently harmful or abusive user interactions.”

To clarify, Anthropic said those two Claude models could exit harmful conversations, like “requests from users for sexual content involving minors and attempts to solicit information that would enable large-scale violence or acts of terror.” With Claude Opus 4 and 4.1, these models will only end a conversation “as a last resort when multiple attempts at redirection have failed and hope of a productive interaction has been exhausted,” according to Anthropic. However, Anthropic claims most users won’t experience Claude cutting a conversation short, even when talking about highly controversial topics, since this feature will be reserved for “extreme edge cases.”

(Anthropic)

In the scenarios where Claude ends a chat, users can no longer send any new messages in that conversation, but can start a new one immediately. Anthropic added that if a conversation is ended, it won’t affect other chats and users can even go back and edit or retry previous messages to steer towards a different conversational route.

For Anthropic, this move is part of its research program that studies the idea of AI welfare. While the idea of anthropomorphizing AI models remains an ongoing debate, the company said the ability to exit a “potentially distressing interaction” was a low-cost way to manage risks for AI welfare. Anthropic is still experimenting with this feature and encourages its users to provide feedback when they encounter such a scenario.
