Sell the News? Bitcoin Market Shrugs Off Fed Moves: Analysis

by admin September 17, 2025

In brief

  • The Fed delivered a 25bps cut in an 11–1 vote, but markets reacted with little enthusiasm.
  • Bitcoin slipped 0.69% after briefly touching $117K earlier in the day.
  • Overall market sentiment remains neutral, though predictors on Myriad lean bullish.

Fed fatigue or was it simply priced in all along? Bitcoin is down a paltry 1% today, currently trading at around $115,500, following the Federal Reserve’s widely telegraphed quarter-point rate cut.

The crypto market appears a bit gassed, but if anything, today’s relatively small drop in prices could be interpreted as a classic “buy the rumor, sell the news” event.

The Federal Open Market Committee lowered its benchmark overnight lending rate by a quarter percentage point in an 11-to-1 vote, putting the overnight funds rate in a range between 4.00%-4.25%.

Rate cuts are typically bullish for risk assets, and yet markets appeared to have been pricing in this move for weeks and showed little enthusiasm. Bitcoin, for instance, was unable to hold above the psychologically important $117,000 level after briefly touching it today.

The overall crypto market still sits above $4 trillion, though down less than 1% in the last 24 hours, while the average performance of the top 20 cryptocurrencies has slipped 0.43%, according to data from Coinmarketcap. So, no FOMO just yet from the Fed’s easing. The Crypto Fear and Greed Index remains almost perfectly neutral at 51 points, down 6 points from last week’s greedy mood.

Fed Chair Jerome Powell characterized the cut as “risk management” rather than something more directed at shoring up a weak economy, which may explain the market’s lukewarm response. With a 96% chance of a 25 basis point cut already priced in way before the announcement, traders appear to be executing the classic “buy the rumor, sell the news” playbook.

The political drama surrounding the Fed decision added another layer of uncertainty. Newly installed Governor Stephen Miran—a widely recognized pro-Trump economist who advised him during his previous tenure—was the only policymaker voting against the quarter-point move, instead advocating for an even larger half-point cut.

Bitcoin (BTC) price: The consolidation continues

So what can be gleaned from the Bitcoin charts today?

The daily chart for BTC shows a market in limbo, with price action basically trading sideways since June, but with an ever so slightly upwards trajectory.

Bitcoin opened today at $116,836, but dipped to a low of $114,747 immediately after the Fed’s announcement, before bouncing to its current price for a net loss of less than 1% on the day.

Bitcoin price data. Image: Tradingview

The Relative Strength Index, or RSI, for Bitcoin sits at 58 in neutral to bullish territory. RSI measures price momentum on a scale of 0 to 100, where values above 70 indicate overbought conditions and below 30 suggest oversold levels. Bitcoin has gained a bit of momentum since dropping below its average price over the last 50 days of $110,000 back in late August

The Average Directional Index, or ADX, which measures trend strength regardless of direction, for BTC is currently at 18. For traders, this shows that the market is basically neutral—traders are essentially waiting for a catalyst to establish the next major move. (Anything under 25 tells traders that a trend isn’t really in place.)

This typically means range-bound trading will continue until a breakout occurs hitting a new all-time high or breakdown below $104,000, which is the average price of Bitcoin over the last 200 days.

It’s these exponential moving averages, or EMAs, that offer a glimmer of hope.

Until a few days ago, the 50-day EMA (the average price over the last 50 trading days) and the 200-day EMA started to compress, hinting at potentially bearish times. This bounce has been enough to increase the gap, which means Bitcoin is still in a bullish formation. Slow, yes, but bullish nonetheless.

The key question now is whether the Fed’s signal of two more cuts before year-end will be enough to reignite risk appetite, or if concerns about persistent inflation and political interference at the central bank will keep buyers on the sidelines.

Over on Myriad, predictors are bullish. Users on the prediction market, developed by Decrypt’s parent company Dastan, place the odds at 61% that Bitcoin keeps rising and hits $125K before it drops back down to $105K. They also believe there’s an 80% chance Bitcoin stays above $105K throughout the entire month of September.

Key Levels:

  • Immediate support: $113,700 (EMA50)
  • Strong support: $108,000 (recent consolidation base visible on chart)
  • Immediate resistance: $119,000 (recent rejection zone)
  • Strong resistance: $124,621 (all-time high)

Bullish’s Beats Q2 Earnings, Sees Higher Adjusted Ebitda for Next Quarter

by admin September 17, 2025

Bullish (BLSH), the owner of CoinDesk, earnings per share beat average analyst estimates, while expecting higher adjusted Ebitda for the next quarter.

The crypto platform reported earnings per share (EPS) of $0.93 in the second quarter, beating the average analyst estimate of $0.03, according to FactSet data. Bullish also reported adjusted revenue of $57 million for the second quarter, versus estimate of $60.7 million.

Tom Farley, CEO of Bullish, said in a filing that the crypto firm experienced “exciting liquidity services growth, executed on a successful Consensus conference,” and that it is seeing “strong business momentum” in the third quarter.

The firm’s trading volume surged to $179.6 billion, up from $133.0 billion in the same quarter last year. For the next quarter, Bullish sees trading volume of $133.0 billion to $142.0 billion.

Bullish also expects $25 million to $28 million in adjusted Ebitda for the third quarter versus $8.1 million in the second quarter, according to the statement.

The report marks the company’s first quarterly report since going public on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in August. BLSH’s IPO price was set at $37 a share and currently trades at $53.54, up 44% from the IPO price.

The stock was up during normal trading hours on Wednesday after the firm secured a BitLicense from the New York State Department of Financial Services. Analysts called this a crucial regulatory approval that opens the door for the firm to expand in the U.S.

The stock is up about 4.5% in post-market trading.

Crypto prices soared in the months from April to June, with bitcoin gaining 30% that quarter, making it the best-performing major asset globally. The CoinDesk20 Index, which tracks the broader market, rose 23% in the same period.

8.18 Million Solana Committed on CME as SOL Options Prepare to Go Live

by admin September 17, 2025

After multiple days of consistent price upsurge, Solana has suddenly flipped to the other side of the market. However, investors have shown resilience despite the negative price action witnessed today.

As investors remain optimistic about Solana’s price potential, CME users have committed large amounts of SOL on the exchange, according to data provided by Coinglass.

The data show that open interest in Solana on CME Group has surged by over 6% in just one day as investors remain bullish on the leading altcoin. Notably, the key onchain metric shows that crypto users on CME have committed about $1.91 billion worth of SOL on the exchange.

CME shares big update for Solana

The surge in Solana’s futures activities specific to CME comes as the exchange disclosed plans to roll out options contracts for SOL and Micro SOL futures on its platform.

In a bid to fuel more exposure for the Solana ecosystem, CME also announced the launch of the Trading at Settlement (TAS) mechanism on SOL to allow users to seamlessly and precisely execute Solana trades.

The update has been warmly received by the crypto ecosystem, garnering hype for the leading altcoin and putting Solana in the spotlight.

The Solana-based product launching on CME has attracted more attention for Solana as it offers retail and institutional traders extended investment opportunities, allowing them to hedge their Solana market exposure.

Prior to this update, Solana had continued to attract capital as its fast transaction speeds and expanding ecosystem increasingly lured interest from large businesses, contributing to the surge in its futures activities.

With this move, Solana is set to garner massive traction in its derivatives market, weighing side by side with leading cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum in terms of institutional-grade trading tools. As such, this tends to boost confidence among investors for Solana and fuel higher demand for the asset, especially among institutional investors.

While this move promotes more adoption for Solana, it will provide more options for both its bullish and bearish traders to bet on its price moves.

Although the move positions Solana for more positive price actions, investors are closely watching the asset’s market dynamics, as there are speculations that some traders will opt to take profit once the SOL futures options go live on CME.

Fed cuts interest rates for first time in 2025

Fed cuts interest rates for first time in 2025

by admin September 17, 2025

The Federal Reserve has followed through with its widely expected decision, cutting rates by 25 basis points and leaving the door open for more cuts.

Summary

  • FOMC cut interest rates by 25 basis points, leaving the door open for more cuts
  • The decision, while widely expected, also carries an easing tone
  • Bitcoin and altcoins could react in a moderately

The Federal Reserve’s widely anticipated decision came on Wednesday, September 17. The Federal Open Market Committee decided to cut interest rates for the first time in 2025. Interest rates will go down by 25 basis points, as expected, from a range of 4.25%–4.50% to 4.00%–4.25%.

The Fed stated that it will leave the door open for more interest-rate cuts. However, Chair Jerome Powell did not commit to a clear path forward, including one that would commit the Fed to more easing. Instead, the central bank opted to retain its flexibility.

Still, the Fed chair highlighted rising concerns with employment and economic growth. This is a major shift in tone and potentially signals that the Fed could be more likely to lower interest rates in the future. Moreover, one member of the FOMC,, according to Bloomberg, dissented, wanting a 50-basis-point rate cut. While there is no official confirmation, the dissenter is likely Trump appointee Stephen Miran.

What the Fed decision means for Bitcoin and altcoins

Interest rates have a major effect on asset prices. Lower interest rates reduce the yields of fixed-income assets like bonds and Treasuries. At the same time, they reduce the cost of borrowing, making riskier assets more attractive. This includes Bitcoin and especially altcoins.

The Fed’s decision was widely anticipated, so it is not likely to have a major effect on crypto prices. Still, a more dovish tone on inflation and interest rates could push Bitcoin prices higher and boost altcoins even further.

Why Are Myriad Users Betting on the Color of Fed Chair Powell’s Tie Today?

by admin September 17, 2025

In brief

  • Myriad traders are betting on whether Jerome Powell will wear a purple tie at the September FOMC press conference—odds heavily favor Yes.
  • Purple has become Powell’s signature color, signaling the Fed’s commitment to neutrality over partisan “red vs. blue” politics.
  • The quirky market highlights how prediction platforms are moving beyond rate calls to trade on symbolism and style cues.

A peculiar but revealing market is getting serious traction on Myriad: Will Fed Chair Jerome Powell wear a purple tie during the September FOMC press conference?

As of now, the crowd overwhelmingly believes yes. But it’s not just about fashion—this prediction market taps into deeper symbolism around the Fed’s public identity.

According to a recent report by Columbia Business School, Powell’s choice of a purple tie is no accident. Brett House, economist and professor at Columbia, noted that Powell’s consistent use of purple is a part of reinforcing the Federal Reserve’s image as non-political in an era of heightened polarization.

Here’s what’s known:

When asked, Powell said purple was once just a personal preference. But over time, he began to see its utility: “Maybe not red. Maybe not blue. So I wind up wearing purple.” He saw purple as a neutral ground, signaling a lack of alignment with either side of the political spectrum. And lately, it’s become something of a signature.

(Disclaimer: Myriad is a product of DASTAN, Decrypt’s parent company.)

He explicitly frames this aesthetic (tie color) as helping project the message that the Fed is strictly non-political—not embracing party red or blue, but purple in between.

So when people are putting money on “Powell wears purple,” they aren’t just betting on wardrobe chance—they’re betting on consistency, signaling, and public messaging.

The Myriad market: Purple tie or not?

Here’s what the market looks like:

  • Question: Will Jerome Powell wear a purple tie during the September FOMC press conference?

  • Large sentiment says Yes. Significant volume is leaning that way. (Exact figures shift with time.)

  • Resolution rules: Must be purple or a pattern where purple is the dominant color. Shades like lavender or violet qualify; red, blue, or burgundy do not. The market typically closes shortly before the event, and official feeds/video resources will decide.

Because of Powell’s established pattern and public statements, the “Yes” side seems to carry weight beyond random guesswork.

Things that could upset the odds

  • Lighting/camera differences: A tie that looks violet on camera might register differently under stage lights, or in certain video streams.

  • Tie patterns/mixed colors: A tie with multiple colors where purple isn’t dominant could create disputes.

  • Last-minute changes: Powell could change his wardrobe plan; things like his stylist’s decisions, availability of a tie, or even mood might matter.

MoneyGram Makes Stablecoins Front and Center of Its Next-Generation App

by admin September 17, 2025

MoneyGram, the ubiquitous send and receive cash network for retail customers, has made U.S. dollar-pegged stablecoins and blockchain settlement rails the digital backbone of its revamped mobile app, the company said on Wednesday.

Customers in the Latin American country of Colombia, where MoneyGram has an extensive retail network of over 6,000 locations, will be the first to use the new app to receive and store stablecoin payments, with plans to expand to additional markets in the near future.

Colombia is the ideal launch market, says MoneyGram CEO Anthony Soohoo. It’s a major inbound remittance corridor where families receive more than 22 times the money they send abroad, and where the Colombian peso has lost over 40% of its value over the past four years.

When it comes to the advancement of stablecoins, Soohoo compares this to other killer apps such as the humble spreadsheet, which drove adoption in the early PC era, or what the browser did for the Internet, or GPS and mobile phones.

“Stablecoins really are the killer app for crypto and I think we’re just at the dawn of all the possibilities,” Soohoo said in an interview. “Our customers are able to hold and store a currency that is stable and allows for real time settlement. And with the GENIUS Act passed in the US, we now have a framework in terms of how it’s going to be regulated and how we can work with it.”

Under the hood, the new MoneyGram app is powered by Circle’s USDC stablecoin and Stellar, the fast and cheap blockchain, as well as Crossmint, a wallet infrastructure and stablecoin payments platform.

Stepping back, MoneyGram has close to half a million locations where customers can pick up cash or send money, Soohoo said. As a remittance provider, it services over 20,000 corridors around the world. MoneyGram also happens to be the largest cash on and off ramp for crypto, Soohoo added.

“When you talk about global payments there are a lot of companies that may have a presence and a strong brand in one market but when you leave the U.S., or the U.K., for example, no one knows about them,” Soohoo said. “We’ve been around for many years now and our brand is truly global.”

Tether CEO Delivers Rare Bitcoin Price Comment

Tether CEO Delivers Rare Bitcoin Price Comment

by admin September 17, 2025

Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, finally spoke up about Bitcoin’s price — something he rarely does. His message was not a price prediction, and Ardoino kept it simple, just welcoming Bitcoin back at $117,000. That short acknowledgment was enough to mark the level as important — not because of what he said but because of who said it.

Thus, the backdrop matters. Earlier this month, the price of the main cryptocurrency fell below $110,000 after a rough August. Since then, Bitcoin (BTC) has climbed more than $7,000, touching $117,272 today before easing to around $116,200 ahead of the Fed rate decision.

USDT sits at a $171 billion market cap and remains the main trading pair across global exchanges. On top of that, Tether itself holds 92,646.2 BTC, equivalent to around $10.76 billion, giving the company one of the largest direct corporate positions in the asset. When its CEO chooses to highlight a price point, it is not just commentary — it’s a marker that the market better to track.

A rare statement from the head of the company behind crypto’s biggest stablecoin simply confirmed that Bitcoin’s recovery has reached a level with psychological and technical weight.

Bottom line

Bitcoin’s rebound is being carried by the usual drivers: $292.27 million in ETF inflows for the last day and low exchange reserves.

But the headline today is not another chart setup. It is that the CEO of Tether broke his silence to point at the number the entire market has been watching: $117,000.

Most Companies Will Implement Stablecoins by 2026, $BEST Nears $16M

by admin September 17, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

Per an EY-Parthenon survey, 54% of business leaders who have yet to touch stablecoins plan to do so by 2026.

Why the change of heart? Lower transaction costs and faster cross-border payments are the main reasons organizations are turning to stablecoins.

Since crypto wallets play a key role in enabling stablecoin transactions, choosing the right one matters. One option we like is Best Wallet, thanks to its ease of use and security.

Its native token, $BEST, also deserves a shout-out. It’s close to raising nearly $16M on presale, as it supports the wallet’s developments and grants holders low gas fees.

Only 13% of Firms Use Stablecoins, But 41% Report Big Savings

The report found that, right now, only around 13% of financial institutions and  international corporations use stablecoins. One of the main reasons for them not doing so boils down to regulatory uncertainty.

Source: EY-Parthenon

Yet, this percentage is on the rise following the passage of the GENIUS Act on July 18. It gives institutions greater regulatory clarity and, thus, confidence to move forward with adopting these digital assets.

And it’s no wonder stablecoins are attracting attention. Among current users, 41% said they’ve saved over 10% in costs compared to traditional payment methods.

The top use case for stablecoins is cross-border supplier payments, which account for 62% of implementations.

The reason is that they’re 1:1 backed by reserve assets (often the US dollar) for stability. Yet, they have faster settlement times compared to traditional international transfers.

Out of the stablecoins available, US-dollar-pegged ones are the go-to choice. $USDC is the clear frontrunner with 77%, followed by $USDT at 59%.

If these stablecoins are top of your radar, Best Wallet is a great way to manage, buy, and sell them.

Store Top Stablecoins & Cryptos on Best Wallet

Available on Google Play and iOS, the Best Wallet app is a great way to manage, buy, sell, and swap various types of cryptos while out and about.

The mobile app already supports over 1K+ assets across top chains like Ethereum, BNB Chain, and Polygon. This includes top stablecoins like $USDC and $USDT, plus leading cryptos like $BTC, $ETH, and $BNB.

It takes pride in making crypto activities simple. Check out its built-in launchpad, for instance. It gives you access to the best crypto presales. And that’s not to mention its swap engine, which scans 330+ DEXs and 30 bridges to find you the best rates.

Source: Best Wallet

And all is achieved with security intact. Because Best Wallet’s non-custodial, it ensures that you, and only you, have access to your private keys.

Also helping prevent unauthorized access are extra layers of protection like 2FA, biometrics, and local encryption.

Even if you lose account access, you can rest easy knowing that you can restore your assets through encrypted cloud backups.

The app also has lots to look forward to in the pipeline, including an NFT gallery, intel market analytics, and a rewards hub.

$BEST will make this possible, as a quarter of its total token supply is set aside for product development.

Source: Best Wallet Token

Holding $BEST also grants governance rights, reduces gas fees, and offers staking rewards at an 83% APY.

So far, $BEST has raised over $15.9M on presale, backed by three major investors ($70.2K, $91.1K, and $59K).

You can buy $BBEST for as little as $0.025655. Following the upcoming app developments, the cost could increase to $0.072 this year, making now a great time to join before it possibly spikes by over 180%.

Forward Industries doubles down on Solana with $4B share program

by admin September 17, 2025

Forward Industries intends to expand its $1.58 billion in Solana holdings with up to $4 billion in new purchases.Forward Industries intends to expand its $1.58 billion in Solana holdings with up to $4 billion in new purchases.

Summary

  • Forward Industries filed for an option to sell $4 billion of its stock to acquire Solana
  • So far, the company has bought about $1.58 billion worth of SOL, financed by private investments
  • The program, if realized fully, could make Forward one of the largest SOL holders out there

Publicly traded firms are increasingly going beyond Bitcoin in their treasury strategies. On Wednesday, September 17, Nasdaq-listed company Forward Industries filed for an automatic shelf registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The filing allows the firm to sell up to $4 billion worth of its stock to acquire SOL.

“Having recently completed the largest Solana-focused digital asset treasury raise to date and initial purchases of more than 6.8 million SOL, the ATM Program enhances our ability to continue scaling that position, strengthen our balance sheet, and pursue growth initiatives in alignment with our long-term vision,” said Kyle Samani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Forward Industries.

It is important to note that the program does not bind the firm to sell that many shares. Moreover, the company’s market cap is currently just $3.16 billion, almost a billion short of its goal. For that reason, it is unlikely that the firm will sell that many shares to buy SOL. Still, if the share price rises substantially after the announcement, the company could approach that goal.

Forward Industries already holds $1.58M in SOL

Earlier, Forward Industries completed a $1.65 billion private investment, led by crypto investment giants such as Galaxy Digital, Jump Crypto, and Multicoin Capital. Using those funds, the firm acquired 6.82 million SOL tokens at an average cost of $232 each, totaling about $1.58 billion.

Despite the latest announcement, shares of Forward Industries fell 4.12% in early morning trading.

Morning Minute: Polymarket Token Speculation Soars Along with $10B Valuation

by admin September 17, 2025

Morning Minute is a daily newsletter written by Tyler Warner. The analysis and opinions expressed are his own and do not necessarily reflect those of Decrypt. Subscribe to the Morning Minute on Substack.

GM!

Today’s top news:

  • Crypto majors mostly flat into FOMC, Bitcoin leads +1% to $116,300
  • Binance in talks with US DOJ to end its compliance monitor
  • Bank of America says 67% of fund managers hold 0 crypto
  • Trump suing NY Times for $15M saying they hurt the TRUMP meme
  • Tether co-founder launches STBL, token soars to $1.7B fdv in debut

🔮 Polymarket Token Incoming?

The world’s biggest prediction market is flirting with a token.

And it’s doing it while eyeing a stratospheric new valuation, rolling out earnings markets with Stocktwits, and prepping a regulated U.S. return.

📌 What Happened

Polymarket’s recent SEC filings hinted at “other warrants” which typically indicate a token.

This has led to broad speculation of a Polymarket token in the works.

And the token speculation comes just days after multiple outlets reported that Polymarket has raised a fresh round that could value the company as high as $9B–$10B.

A massive jump from the ~$1B valuation discussed in June.

That’s a lot of big money news, coming along with major fundamental progress:

  • Regulated U.S. comeback: After acquiring CFTC-licensed QCEX and receiving staff relief, CEO Shayne Coplan says the platform has the “green light” to go live in the U.S.
  • New product + distribution: Polymarket launched public-company earnings prediction markets and became the official prediction-markets partner of Stocktwits, bringing live probabilities to Stocktwits’ 10M+ users
  • Volume check: Volumes are coming in around ~$250M/week and consistently at the $1B/month mark

The $10B raise makes a bit more sense with that backdrop.

🗣️ What They’re Saying

“Polymarket has been given the green light to go live in the USA by the @CFTC. Credit to the Commission and Staff for their impressive work.” – Shayne Coplan, CEO, on X (Sep 3)

“Prediction markets transform uncertainty into clarity by turning big questions-like earnings-into simple, tradable outcomes with transparent pricing.” – Matthew Modabber, CMO, Polymarket, on the Stocktwits partnership.

“Polymarket is the largest prediction market in the world, and the U.S. needs access to this important platform.” – Donald Trump Jr., as Polymarket added him to its advisory board following 1789 Capital’s investment.

🧠 Why It Matters

A token would formalize community upside.

If a Polymarket token launches, it turns users into owners, likely deepens liquidity across markets, and enables new incentive design (e.g., fee shares, staking for dispute resolution, or market-maker rewards).

Timing-wise, it makes sense.

They have more momentum than ever with the combination of regulatory approval, new product verticals (earnings markets), sports markets catching fire (see Kalshi’s latest volume surge) and a general explosion in prediction market interest.

And just the hint of a token is enough to steal market share and attention from their rival Kalshi (which has flipped Polymarket in volume as of late).

All being equal, users will trade on the apps that have the best lines, market and/or best UX.

With token incentives in the mix, the decision of which app to use has a heavily weighted new factor.

So expect Polymarket volumes and attention to boom here in the near future.

As for its token, it’s tough to value. Polymarket is a true unicorn. And without them taking a fee, there is no revenue model to use.

It wouldn’t be crazy at all to think a Polymarket token would fetch $5B-$10B upon its debut.

Maybe we’ll find out this year…
