iPhones are on the menu for Amazon drone delivery

The Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) has given Amazon’s Prime Air drones the go-ahead to deliver new categories of devices, including products with lithium ion batteries like iPhones, AirPods, and more, Amazon has announced. The company says those product categories can be shipped to your door within 60 minutes — if you’re in one of the eligible delivery areas in Arizona or Texas, that is.

Amazon writes that it recently streamlined its drone deliveries. The new process includes Amazon giving you a delivery time with a five-minute window on either side, and customers no longer having to go outside and put a QR code on the ground.

The first time you order one of these drone drops, you’ll pick from one of the predetermined-to-be-eligible delivery zones on an aerial picture of your house. Amazon will use the same spot from then on, assuming it’s clear, until you change it. The drones drop packages from about 13 feet in the air, so it’s a good idea to keep your pets or kids inside during the delivery window. At the moment, drone deliveries are only available in College Station, Texas, and in the West Valley part of the Phoenix, Arizona metro area, and only when the weather is favorable.

The deliveries come via Amazon’s new MK30 drones, a key part of the drone delivery program the company has been working to get off the ground for over a decade. MK30s are limited to 5-pound packages, but they can fly farther than the drones it used previously, and can even handle light rain. Last year, Amazon managed to get FAA approval to fly its drones beyond the visual line of sight of its operators, greatly expanding where it can actually make its deliveries.

Dell CEO tells us how AI can make us “more effective as a species”

The CEO of Dell Technologies has told TechRadar Pro that AI offers a great opportunity for organizations to re-evaluate themselves to positive effect

Speaking at a media Q&A session at Dell Technologies World 2025, Michael Dell looked to reassure us that AI will never fully replace human workers, and in fact may offer them a whole new outlook.

In a wide-ranging discussion, Dell also laid out his views on political instability affecting the technology industry, and some of his key leadership principles.

“Always some change”

“The way I think about this is that if you look at every progress, that’s for any technology, you always have some change that goes on,” Dell said in response to our question about AI affecting or even replacing human workers.

“My way of thinking is there’s probably a 10 percent effect for that – but I think 90 percent of that is actually growth and expansion and opportunity, and ultimately what I think you’re going to see is more opportunities, more economic growth.”

“There are a lot of things that we don’t do, that we used to do, because we have the tools, and we’re more effective as a species because of that – (using AI) is just another example of that.”

“One of the keys beyond productivity and efficiency I think for organizations, is to reimagine themselves, and say, alright, what is the trajectory of these capabilities, where is it going, and what should our activity look like in three years, five years time, given this capability.”

“You know, a lot of roles today just didn’t exist 10, 20, 30 years ago – and no-one was forecasting that.”

Having spoken with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang in his opening keynote, Dell was also asked if the two shared any overarching leadership principles.

“I think anytime there’s a new technology, you have to leap ahead (and think), what is the likely impact of this, and how do we need to change? And if we don’t have a passion around that, or there isn’t a crisis in your organization – make one! We think it can make us a better company.”

Dell was also asked about how changing global economic and political situations might affect the company’s future outlook

“We agree that those are issues and challenges,” he said, “in my general view, the importance of this technology is greater than all those problems – and I heard somebody say recently, tokens are bigger than tariffs – and that would sort of summarize our view of it.”

“Are all those things helpful to our business? No, they’re not – but there’s a limit of what we can do about that, right? We can certainly do the things we’re supposed to do, and focus on the things we can control – we’re seeing plenty of companies that are dealing with all those challenges just as we are, and powering ahead in any case.”

Subnautica 2: Key details and latest news, summarized by humans

It’s been a while since Subnautica 2 first pinged the radar back in 2022, but we know there’s a return voyage from developer Unknown Worlds in the works, and it’s out sometime this year. We’ve seen a slow and steady trickle of details on the next dive—teasers from showcases, Discord updates, and even screenshots hidden within time capsules in the original Subnautica.

I played dozens of hours of Subnautica and loved building my undersea base, so I’ve been anxiously scanning for more on the next journey. But just like adventuring in Subnautica 2, I won’t have to explore alone. I’ve been scavenging the ocean floor for anything and everything on the survival-crafting sequel, whether it be a shrimpy tidbit or a Leviathian-sized lore drop.

Is there a Subnautica 2 early access release date?

Subnautica 2 early access begins sometime in 2025, but there’s no specific release date yet. Whenever we do make the dive, the sequel’s early access period will be available on Steam, Epic Games, and the Windows Store.

As for the game’s 1.0 launch, Unknown Worlds estimates that Subnautica 2 will be in early access for two or three years. That puts the complete build sometime in 2027 at the earliest. It’s quite the wait, but we know Subnautica 2’s price will increase at launch, so anyone exploring in early access as the game grows gets a discount.

The first Subnautica 2 teaser stirred up more hype for its big ol crabs, but the 2024 Xbox presentation didn’t reveal any gameplay footage. This developer vlog dives a little deeper, offering a look at building in the new alien ocean and outlining the exploration game’s early access plans.

Is Subnautica 2 multiplayer?

Yes, Subnautica 2 has a multiplayer mode in the works, so those of us too terrified to gaze into the deep sea abyss alone can coordinate in groups of four. Co-op was one of those things everyone wanted in the first game, but only ever existed as a Subnautica mod.

There’s a whole PC Gamer write-up recalling encounters with Leviathans in Subnautica as part of our Great Moments in PC Gaming series, and I can’t tell you if my giddy terror emphatically agrees or disagrees. But what I can say is, it wouldn’t have taken me days to conquer the beginning of Subnautica had I brought a friend to hide behind.

What else do we know about the Subnautica 2 early access?

There’s not much out there about Subnautica 2, but we’ve gotten a few vague teases around what to expect in the sequel. Unknown Worlds confirmed it’s off to greener pastures bluer oceans on a new alien world, and from how it sounds, there’s no planet safe from a disastrously wrong AI:

“You are a pioneer traveling to a distant world, but something is amiss. The ship’s AI insists you carry on the mission. This world is too dangerous for humans to survive… Unless you change what it means to be human. What creatures, intelligent or otherwise, await your arrival?”

With regards to the rest of that list, we know about a few more features Unknown Worlds has planned for the Subnautica 2 early access:

  • Both co-op and singleplayer adventures
  • An “overhauled” building system
  • Additional vehicles and craftables
  • More Leviathans, with one briefly teased in Subnautica 2’s roadmap
  • New creatures and biomes

TP-Link expands tri-band Wi-Fi 7 family with new routers and an outdoor satellite

TP-Link has announced three new wireless products that leverage the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard, including an outdoor satellite that brings world-first functionality. The new offerings include the Deco BE65 Outdoor, the Deco BE68, and the Archer BE600.

We start with the Deco BE65 Outdoor, the company’s first weather-resistant Wi-Fi 7 satellite. You might remember the Eero Outdoor 7 launched late last year with Wi-Fi 7 support. However, at least on paper, the Deco BE65 Outdoor should provide better performance. While the Eero Outdoor 7 only supported 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, the Deco BE65-Outdoor also supports the higher-performing 6 GHz band.

According to TP-Link, the Deco BE65 Outdoor enables up to 688 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band, up to 4,324 Mbps on the 5 GHz band, and up to 5,765 Mbps on the 6 GHz band while covering 3,000 square feet.

The satellite features IP65 weatherproofing, making it water and dust-resistant for use in your backyard, on a porch, or perhaps in an outdoor shed. You can use a wireless (MLO) or wired (two 2.5 GbE ports onboard) backhaul to connect to your primary Deco mesh network. Power is supported via a traditional AC adapter or Power over Ethernet (PoE).

TP-Link has priced the Deco BE65 Outdoor at $299.99, or $100 less than the $399 MSRP of the Eero Outdoor 7.

Next is the recently released Deco BE68 Wi-Fi 7 mesh router, which is sold as a three-pack. This 14 Gbps tri-band mesh system delivers 8,647 Mbps on the 6 GHz band, 4,324 Mbps on the 5 GHz band, and 688 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band.

Each satellite has a single 10 GbE port, one 2.5 GbE port, and one GbE port. You’ll also find a single USB 3.0 port on each satellite for connecting a non-wireless printer or external storage. TP-Link says that you can connect up to 200 devices to the mesh router and that it covers up to 8,100 square feet. The Deco BE68 carries a $699 MSRP, but is currently available from Best Buy for $599.99.

Finally, we come to the Archer BE9700. At first glance, the Archer BE9700 looks identical to the Archer BE3600 we recently reviewed, but then you’ll notice it has two additional external antennas. However, there are even more changes lurking inside.

While the Archer BE3600 is a dual-band Wi-Fi 7 router value priced at $99, the Archer BE9700 is a full-enabled tri-band Wi-Fi router. You’ll see speeds of up to 5,756 Mbps on the 6 GHz band, up to 2,882 Mbps on the 5 GHz band, and up to 1,032 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band. TP-Link even includes a single 10 GbE port on the router and three 2.5 GbE ports (one used for WAN).

The Archer BE9700 is not yet on sale, but will be priced at $249.99 at Best Buy and Amazon.

The Criterion Collection of video games is finally here

Video game design studio Lost in Cult announced a new physical game label called Editions. The label will release “prestige” editions of beloved games that include original box art, 40-page booklets, and other extras.

Lost in Cult is best known for releasing books on video game through its Design Works series, as well as vinyl records featuring game soundtracks. Editions is an extension of that work, continuing the design company’s focus on game preservation and curated content. Think of the project as a Criterion Collection for video games, preserving prestigious titles and bundling them with additional context that underlines their importance to the medium.

Three games have been announced for the first wave of releases: Immortality, Thank Goodness You’re Here, and The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow. All three are critically acclaimed indies from this decade (Immortality was Digital Trends’ runner-up choice for game of the year in 2022, narrowly losing to Elden Ring). Each comes with a poster, art cards, a booklet featuring essays and interviews, and more physical extras.

Lost in Cult

All three are available to order now and will retail for £60. Lost in Cult will ship Editions worldwide and says that they will ship within six months, though it is targeting a three month turnaround.

At launch, Editions will only get PS5 and Nintendo Switch releases. Thank Goodness You’re Here will be available on both platforms, Immortality is getting a PS5-only release, and The Excavation of Hobb’s Barrow will be for Switch. There will be a limited number of copies to order for each platform, though Lost in Cult says that it will release standard edition versions of the game at retailers too.

Lost in Cult confirms that Nintendo Switch 2 Editions (not to be confused with … Nintendo Switch 2 Editions) are planned for the future and those will always be “full editions” rather than Game-Key Cards.

More titles are coming soon. While Lost in Cult will skip June, it plans to release its next Edition in July for Nintendo Switch and PS5. It teases that it’s an “artful” game. Future release are planned through 2026.

The first three Editions are available to order now via Lost in Cult.

‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Promises a Lot More Addams Family Antics

Jenna Ortega is still the star. The show is still called Wednesday. But season two of Tim Burton’s Netflix hit will be widening its focus a bit to focus more on Wednesday’s notorious family—and the actors who play the other Addams couldn’t be more thrilled. Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays Morticia, even gets to show off her sword-fighting skills, and while we’re not sure how that’s going to fit into the show’s new mystery, we are now even more excited to see it unfold.

A new featurette shared by Netflix offers a tantalizing tease of season two, with Ortega, Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán (Gomez), and more—including executive producer and director Burton—talking about what’s to come.

Co-showrunners and creators Miles Millar and Alfred Gough promise more “Addams family lore,” as well as an expanded scope and character arcs. We’ll also get to see a lot more of Nevermore Academy, Wednesday’s curse-plagued boarding school, where her brother Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) is now also a student (“an outcast among outcasts,” according to Burton).

We also get a glimpse of Joanna Lumley as Grandmama, delivering what looks to be an appropriately high camp performance.

Wednesday season two arrives in two parts, on August 6 and September 3.

Most helmets can be broken down into three distinct categories.

A commuter or everyday helmet exists to keep your head safe and little else. Sure, some look cooler than others, some are more ventilated than others, and some offer a bit more comfort than others. But in the end, your everyday helmet puts safety at the fore.

Road helmets take aerodynamics, ventilation, and weight into account. As befits a highly aerobic sport, a road helmet must consider factors like fighting the wind, regulating your body’s temperature, and keeping your neck comfortable, which are essential parts of road cycling.

Mountain biking helmets offer more protection down the back of the skull, are often outfitted with sun-blocking visors (as aerodynamics are far less important on a mountain bike ride), and will sometimes even include clips to fasten eye protection or googles.

You can really get into the weeds with helmets made for gravel riding, downhill or cross-country mountain biking, aero, or full-faced protection. Finally, remember that helmets are not meant to be worn after a crash. Even if the spill is minor and the helmet looks and feels perfectly fine, trash it and get a new one.

Apple’s WWDC 2025 keynote will be June 9 at 1PM ET

Apple has sent the invites for its in-person WWDC 2025 festivities on Monday, June 9, featuring the keynote session at 1PM ET/10AM PT. Attendees will be able to watch the keynote presentation at the company’s Cupertino campus, as well as meet with developers and participating in special activities. For everyone who hasn’t received an invite to Apple Park, the keynote will stream online. Developers can also participate in the rest of WWDC’s programming online for free.

We’ve already got pretty high hopes for the keynote announcements, with a lot of potential news expected about the upcoming redesign for iOS 19. We’ve heard that the operating system could have features including AI-powered battery management and improved public Wi-Fi sign ins, and our own Nathan Ingraham has penned an impassioned plea for a normal letter “a” in the Notes app. The full WWDC conference runs from June 9-13.

Elgato is letting you stick a Stream Deck on anything

Elgato announced a new “Stream Deck Everywhere” strategy at Computex, which includes a software-based virtual Stream Deck for PCs, an ethernet dock accessory, unbranded Stream Deck modules that can bring its keys into other products, and even new scissor-switch keys for a more precise, keyboard-like feel. “With these launches, we’re opening up Stream Deck to a world of new users, from developers and DIY builders to manufacturers seeking a field-proven interface for their products,” said Elgato general manager Julian Fest. “Because Stream Deck isn’t just a device—it’s a platform.

Stream Deck Modules are designed for hobbyists and manufacturers to easily integrate into hardware projects instead of ripping apart the consumer version or developing their own custom macropad solutions. The modules are available in 6-, 15-, and 32-key variants and are housed in an aluminum chassis that can be built into custom bases, machines, and furniture, making it possible to actually create Elgato’s ridiculous 1,262-key April Fools’ desk.

The Stream Deck Modules are available now starting at $49.99 for the six-key version, $129.99 for the 15-key, and $199.99 for the 32-key. Elgato technical marketing manager Philipp Eggebrecht told The Verge that discounts will be offered for bulk purchases.

A new variant of the MK.2 Stream Deck has been introduced that replaces the membrane keys with scissor-style switches that provide “enhanced speed and precision,” according to Elgato. Eggebrecht says the scissor keys variant costs $149.99 and will be available in “around two weeks.”

Stream Deck buttons that feel more like keyboard keys would make it easier for users to tell they’ve clicked something without having to look at the device. Elgato describes the scissor switch variant as something that “lends itself to typing-style interactions, paving the way for new use cases that benefit from rapid, multi-layered input and control,” which could be testing the waters for a Stream Deck keyboard or any other application requiring precise controls.

“The idea of a full LCD-key based keyboard is interesting. We’ve explored it in the past and so far, what we’ve found is that the experience hasn’t been great, and there’s the cost question,” Eggebrecht told The Verge. “We’re getting closer to a keyboard feeling with Stream Deck Scissor Keys, and always looking at the technology and what is becoming possible. Stream Deck and keyboards are a natural fit.”

Elgato is also rolling out a software-only Stream Deck for desktop devices, akin to the existing Stream Deck mobile app. The Virtual Stream Deck (VSD) can provide a permanent macro menu on computer screens or be summoned at will when users hit allocated hotkeys and mouse buttons. The VSD software will initially be available for people who own a Corsair Scimitar Elite Wireless SE mouse, Xenon Edge touchscreen, or any Stream Deck model, before later rolling out to “more devices.”

Custom layouts, virtual faceplates, and support for beyond six buttons require iPhone and Android Stream Deck users to pay for Pro access, which starts at $2.99 monthly or $49.99 as a one-time purchase. Eggebrecht says Elgato’s desktop VSD isn’t locked behind a subscription, but does require users to install the Stream Deck 7.0 beta.

A new $79.99 Stream Deck network dock accessory was also announced that includes support for power over Ethernet (PoE), which lets you place its buttons anywhere there’s a network jack, and with more flexibility than USB-C affords by itself. Eggebrecht says the Stream Deck network dock will start shipping in August.
