Bitcoin faces quantum risk: Solana co-founder issues warning

by admin September 21, 2025

Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko has warned that Bitcoin developers must prepare for a potential quantum computing breakthrough that could render the network’s current security measures outdated.

Summary

  • At the All-In Summit, Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko reignited debate over Bitcoin’s long-term security.
  • There’s a “50/50” chance that quantum computers could break its cryptographic defenses within five years. Rapid advances in AI show how quickly theory can become reality.
  • The question is not just if Bitcoin must migrate to quantum-safe cryptography—but when.

According to Yakovenko, who was speaking at the All-In Summit 2025, there is a “50/50” probability that within five years, quantum computers will be strong enough to crack the cryptographic safeguards protecting Bitcoin wallets.

The concern centers on quantum machines running algorithms like Shor’s, which could crack the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm currently protecting Bitcoin (BTC) private keys.

This would allow attackers to forge transactions and compromise wallets, creating an existential risk for the network.

Yakovenko argued that “we should migrate Bitcoin to a quantum-resistant signature scheme” before such technology becomes viable.

Skeptics like Blockstream’s Adam Back downplay immediacy of threat

The Bitcoin community remains divided on the urgency of quantum threats. Adam Back, CEO of Blockstream, estimated that the technology is still relatively far away and argued that making Bitcoin quantum-ready is “relatively simple.”

Bitcoin Core contributor Peter Todd dismissed current quantum computers as non-existent, stating that “demos running toy problems do not count.”

Luke Dashjr, another Bitcoin Core contributor, suggested quantum threats pose less immediate danger than spam transactions and developer corruption issues the community currently faces.

Bitcoin’s design complicates any quantum upgrade. A migration to post-quantum cryptography would require a hard fork, a highly contentious and technically complex process needing widespread network support.

Yakovenko countered skepticism by pointing to quick AI advances as evidence of how quickly laboratory research can transition to real-world applications.

He suggested that when tech giants like Apple or Google deploy quantum-safe cryptographic stacks, “it’s time to migrate” Bitcoin’s security infrastructure.

Exposed keys create vulnerability

Bitcoin’s quantum vulnerability stems from two primary attack vectors. The network uses ECDSA based on the secp256k1 curve to secure private keys and validate transactions.

This makes it particularly vulnerable to Shor’s algorithm, which could derive private keys from public keys in polynomial time.

Approximately 25-30% of all Bitcoin, over 4 million BTC, including Satoshi Nakamoto’s early holdings, sits in addresses with exposed public keys.

These legacy Pay-to-Public-Key addresses are immediately vulnerable to quantum attack since their public keys are already visible on the blockchain.

Transaction windows create additional risk exposure. When Bitcoin users start transactions, they reveal public keys during the roughly 10-minute confirmation window.

A sufficiently powerful quantum computer could exploit this brief exposure to derive private keys and redirect funds before transactions confirm.

Trump’s Attack on Fed May Deepen Policy Lag, Send Dollar (USD) Lower

by admin September 21, 2025

One of the most controversial features of President Donald Trump’s second term is his relentless criticism of Federal Reserve (Fed) Chair Jerome Powell for maintaining elevated interest rates – a stance Trump argues is unnecessarily costly to the American economy.

But this is more than just rhetoric. Trump is aggressively attempting to undermine the Fed’s board, threatening an institution long known for its political independence. Ironically, this very assault risks backfiring, deepening what Trump and others describe as a Fed that is “behind the curve,” potentially leading to a deeper sell-off in the U.S. dollar.

“Political pressures make it tough to credibly shift to an overtly dovish footing. That leaves policy data driven (thus late) rather than pre-emptive. That’s bad for the USD,” the market insights team at Lloyds Bank led by Nicholas Kennedy, said in a note to clients on Sept. 18.

Trump’s Attack on the Fed

Last Thursday marked a new chapter in Trump’s campaign against the central bank, as his administration took the unprecedented step of petitioning the U.S. Supreme Court to allow the firing of Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. This would be the first forced removal of a sitting Fed governor since the institution’s founding in 1913.

The move followed a temporary judicial block issued by U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb, who prevented the ousting of Cook, a Biden appointee, pending further legal proceedings.

According to the Lloyds Bank market insights team, such attacks are likely to increase as Powell enters the final months of his term as Chairman. Trump’s recent appointee at the Fed, Stephen Miran, is already calling for rapid-fire rate cuts and wants the bank to reduce the benchmark borrowing cost by 50 basis points in the recently concluded meeting.

Behind the Curve

At its core, Trump’s campaign reflects a desire for a Fed more responsive to his economic worldview, which demands ultra-low rates around 1%, down significantly from the present 4%.

Trump has argued that current rates keep mortgage costs prohibitively high for many Americans, hindering homeownership and imposing billions in unnecessary debt refinancing expenses. He frames this as a staggering missed opportunity on an otherwise “phenomenal” economy. Meanwhile, many economists agree that rates remain too high given signs of weakening labor markets and consumer health.

Thus, the Federal Reserve is widely perceived as “behind the curve” – a technical term meaning it is too slow to cut rates in response to evolving economic conditions.

Yet, Trump’s insistence on forcing faster rate cuts risks pushing the Fed further behind this curve.

Damned if they do, damned if they don’t

Imagine holding the reins of the world’s most powerful central bank, responsible not only for the world’s largest economy, but the fate of the global reserve currency, the USD. Now imagine the political pressure to cut rates quickly, against the fear of appearing politically compromised. This leaves policymakers damned if they act and damned if they don’t.

So, unlike typical policymakers who adjust with measured calm in response to data, Powell and his colleagues now operate under intense political pressure and public scrutiny from the White House. They face a classic catch-22: face accusations of succumbing to political pressure in case of rapid rate cuts (even if they do so independently); wait too long and risk the potential deepening of an economic slowdown.

This dynamic could breed reflexive stubbornness. To avoid accusations of capitulating to political pressure, the Fed may instinctively lean towards caution – waiting longer and keeping rates elevated. However, this posture can exacerbate the problem: delayed rate cuts keep monetary policy out of sync with economic conditions, much like a patient who resists mild medication only to require drastic doses once a fever spikes.

The subsequent high doses of rate cuts could be interpreted by markets as a sign of panic, leading to increased volatility in financial markets, including cryptocurrencies.

Dollar at risk

The catch-22 situation could also weigh on the U.S. dollar, a bullish development for dollar-denominated assets like gold and bitcoin.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback’s value against major currencies, has dropped nearly 10% this year to 97.64. Meanwhile, bitcoin’s price has rallied by 24% to $115,600.

Crypto Custodian BitGo Reports $90 Billion In US IPO Filing – Details

by admin September 21, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

According to the latest report, crypto custody company BitGo has filed an initial public offering (IPO) in the United States. This strategic move comes as several digital asset firms look to take advantage of the improving climate under United States President Donald Trump’s administration.

BitGo Records $4.2 Billion Revenue In First Half Of 2025

On Friday, September 19, BitGo submitted an S-1 filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for an initial public offering. The crypto custodian aims to list its Class A common stock on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker symbol “BTGO,” the document revealed.

This latest filing comes after BitGo initially submitted a confidential draft version of S-1 IPO document in July. The firm is looking to join a strong list of recent public debuts in the United States by crypto companies, including Circle, Bullish, and Figure.

In the S-1 filing, BitGo disclosed that it held around $90.3 billion worth of assets on its platform as of June 2025. Meanwhile, the crypto custody firm also claimed to have witnessed a revenue growth in the first half of the year, with $4.2 billion compared to $1.1 billion in the first six months of 2024.

Source: SEC

Based on the terms of the S-1, BitGo co-founder and CEO Mike Belshe will retain majority voting power under a dual-class share structure, holding Class B shares with 15 votes each. This detail will ensure that BitGo remains a “controlled company” under NYSE rules.

The filing read:

Although we do not currently intend to rely on any such exemptions, we may do so in the future and if we utilize any of the exemptions, you will not have the same protections as those afforded to stockholders of companies that are subject to such governance requirements” and “Management - Controlled Company Status” for more information.

As already mentioned, several crypto firms have seen notable public market debuts over the past few months. Meanwhile, other major companies, including Gemini and Grayscale, are also looking to go public in the United States.

Crypto Firms Continue To Flourish Under Trump

Following the election of Donald Trump as US president, the US crypto landscape has witnessed a positive shift. This change has arrived on the back of a clearer regulatory regime, as seen with the introduction of crypto-focused bills such as the GENIUS Stablecoin Act.

Moreover, the “crypto treasury” frenzy is also another example to point at, as more publicly traded firms are actively acquiring digital assets on their balance sheet. This rise in the institutional adoption of cryptocurrencies can be seen in the continuous growth of the market, with various assets reaching multiple all-time highs in the past few months.

XRP price rebound incoming as XRPR ETF assets hits $10m

by admin September 21, 2025

XRP price has pulled back in the past few days despite some highly bullish catalysts, including the warm reception of the REX-Osprey XRPR ETF and the rising odds of Act 33 ETF approvals by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Summary

  • XRP price has formed a large bullish flag chart pattern.
  • Data shows that the XRPR ETF has added over $10 million in assets.
  • That is a sign that there is strong demand for XRP assets.

XRPR ETF inflows are rising

Ripple (XRP) dropped to the critical support at $3, down by 6.6% from its highest point this week and 19% below the year-to-date high.

The recently launched REX-Osprey XRPR ETF is seeing strong demand from American investors. Data shows that the fund’s volume on the first day was about $37.7 million, making it the best debut in terms of volume this year. Its volume then came in at $15 million on the second day.

$GDLC (the first spot crypto ‘5’ basket ETF) did $22m on its first day as an ETF. Really solid. $DOJE did $12m and $XRPR did $15m. All of them crush the avg ETF launch altho far cry from bitcoin. Still, gotta be happy with that if you are those issuers.

— Eric Balchunas (@EricBalchunas) September 19, 2025

According to its website, the fund’s assets have now jumped to over $10.9 million. This is a notable achievement because it is an expensive fund with an expense ratio of 0.75%.

It is also a sign that there is robust for XRP assets. For one, the other leveraged XRP ETFs like Teucrium’s XXRP and ProShares’ UXRP have gained over $430 million and $120 million assets in the past few months.

Similarly, the CME XRP Futures have had substantial demand, with the open interest crossing the $1 billion milestone within weeks.

This is a sign that the upcoming Act 33 XRP ETFs by companies like Franklin Templeton, Invesco, Bitwise, and Canary will see robust demand. Analysts expect that the SEC will approve them in October, with Polymarket odds jumping to 96%.

XRP price technical analysis

XRP chart | Source: crypto.news

Technical analysis suggests that the XRP price will rebound, potentially towards the ETF approval. It is currently forming a giant bullish flag pattern. It has already completed the formation of the flagpole section and is now creating the flag.

XRP price has remained above the 100-day Exponential Moving Average and the strong, pivot, reverse point of the Murrey Math Lines tool.

Therefore, the token will likely rebound and possibly surge to $4.2970, the extreme overshoot. This price is about 45% above the current level.

Heavy Whale Activity Drives ASTER Token Surge After Launch

by admin September 21, 2025

On-chain tracker Lookonchain has flagged heavy whale activity in ASTER, the native token of decentralized exchange Aster. In the past 24 hours, three major wallets moved a combined over $10 million worth of tokens, suggesting big players are circling the project soon after its launch.

The largest came from 0x04EA, which pulled out 7.04 million ASTER ($4.66 million) about 13 hours ago. Another wallet, 0xe1Da, withdrew 5.1 million tokens ($4.1 million) roughly 10 hours ago. A third, 0x841D, first deposited 2.22 million APX ($2.22 million), then swapped it out for ASTER worth $2.11 million just a couple of hours later.

These movements suggest whales are still active around the token, possibly holding on to their positions rather than selling off quickly.

From Launch to Rally

Aster is a new decentralized perpetual exchange that launched in July on the BNB Chain. It is backed by YZi Labs (previously Binance Labs) and supported by PancakeSwap. The exchange lets users trade crypto with leverage, putting it alongside other DeFi trading platforms.

Its token, ASTER, was introduced only on September 18, but trading has been fast. Within hours of going live, the price jumped more than 300%. This followed months of activity through the Aster Genesis program, where the team handed out 704 million ASTER tokens via an airdrop to early users.

Market Snapshot

ASTER is currently priced at $0.937, up about 58% in the past day. Its market cap is $1.55 billion, while 24-hour trading volumes are near $708 million, up 76% from the previous day.

Much of this rise comes from new exchange listings and speculation. On September 19, OrangeX introduced a 25x ASTER perpetual contract, drawing in leverage traders. Rumors of an APX-to-ASTER swap have also helped. Mentions from Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) on social media have added more attention.

On Thursday, Hyperliquid listed ASTER with up to 3x leverage. The exchange did caution about low liquidity and volatility, but the move still brought more traders in.

Early Growth Numbers

In its first day after launch, Aster saw $345 million in trading volume, over $1 billion in total value locked (TVL), and more than 330,000 new users. Even CZ highlighted the growth, calling it one of the strongest debuts of the year.

The Road Ahead

Whales are shifting tokens, new exchanges are listing ASTER, and trading activity keeps climbing. The token has built strong momentum in just a few days, but the real test is whether Aster can hold onto this growth in an already crowded DeFi market.

54,000,000,000 Shiba Inu (SHIB) in 24 Hours: Massive Bullish Signal on Exchanges

by admin September 21, 2025

  • Exchanges stay volatile
  • SHIB market performance

The data behind Shiba Inu’s recent surge in exchange activity — nearly 54 billion tokens moved in a single day — could be the last bullish signal left for the asset. On-chain metrics reveal a significant drop in exchange reserves, which have dropped by 0.05% to 85 trillion SHIB, while netflow is negative at -43 trillion. Because more tokens are leaving exchanges than entering, there is less pressure on the open market to sell.

Exchanges stay volatile

Generally speaking, these outflow periods correspond with lower downside volatility and, more significantly, accumulation stages that come before rallies. In addition, the number of transactions increased by almost 1% in a 24-hour period, and the number of active addresses increased by 0.93%, indicating that network activity is increasing.

Source: CryptoQuant

This is important because SHIB has been stagnating for the past few weeks, forming a big symmetrical triangle pattern. At this point, rising activity indicates that traders are getting ready for a bigger move.

SHIB market performance

SHIB is still confined, technically speaking, between the rising support trendline below and its 200-day EMA above. The recent loss of $0.000013 reduced short-term bullish momentum, but strong buyer defense was demonstrated by the bounce from the $0.0000128 zone. SHIB might generate enough demand to confront the $0.000014 resistance zone, which also coincides with the descending trendline, if the negative exchange netflows continue.

SHIB might move toward $0.000016-$0.000017 if there is a breakout there. The downside risk, on the other hand, consists of a decline back toward $0.0000117 and possibly adding another zero if selling pressure suddenly increases and volumes decline, and SHIB loses support at $0.0000125. However, for the time being, the combination of increasing activity, decreasing exchange supply and improving network metrics raises the possibility that investors are subtly setting up for an upside breakout.

Since SHIB is at a pivotal point, it will probably be decided in the coming sessions whether or not this accumulation actually leads to a rally.

Crypto Market Structure Bill: Democrat Senators Push For Bipartisan Authorship

by admin September 21, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

After the Senate Banking Committee advanced the GOP-led legislation on the crypto market structure, a growing number of Democratic senators have stepped forward to demand the chance to actively contribute to one of the most potentially important digital asset regulations. This development comes as the crypto regulatory framework remains center stage in the US Congress, following President Donald Trump’s adoption of a crypto-friendly administrative stance.

Crypto Structure Bill Gathers Traction

Notably, the present crypto market structure bill is led by Republican senators, including Senate Banking Chair Tim Scott (R-S.C.), along with Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), and Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio). The updated discussion draft of the “Responsible Financial Innovation Act of 2025” was released in early September, introducing some key changes that sparked public interest. ‘

One of these changes is the proposal of a joint regulatory committee involving the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), as well as 14 non-government members from across the industry, academia, user base, and the National Institute of Science and Technology.

However, on September 9, popular crypto critic and Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) shared heavy criticism of the GOP-led bill, citing a lack of sufficient consultation with Democrats or disclosure of industry feedback. She argues that partisanship and lack of transparency threaten both the integrity and effectiveness of the legislation. Following this development, the Democrats have since released their own version of the cryptocurrency regulatory framework, backing their call for bipartisan authorship.

The Demand For Shared Authorship

In a statement released on September 19, this group of 12 Democratic senators reaffirmed their desire to be more than bystanders in the crypto structure bill. Senators Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), Mark Warner (D-VA), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Cory Booker (D-NJ), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Ben Ray Luján (D-NM), John Hickenlooper (D-CO), Raphael Warnock (D-GA), Adam Schiff (D-CA), Andy Kim (D-NJ), Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE), and Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD) together called for a bipartisan authorship process matching the norm for legislation of this scale.

The statement read:

Last week, we released a framework on market structure legislation, highlighting our desire to work on this issue. As we stated then, digital assets are a $4 trillion global market that will require a considered and bipartisan approach to regulation.

We hope our Republican colleagues will agree to a bipartisan authorship process, as is the norm for legislation of this scale. Given our shared interest in moving forward quickly on this issue, we hope they will agree to reasonable requests to allow for true collaboration.

The Democratic proposed framework centers around seven key pillars, including clarifying regulatory jurisdiction, integrating digital-asset issuers and trading platforms into oversight, combating illicit finance and corruption, promoting fair regulation, and closing gaps in how non-security digital assets are regulated.

At press time, the total crypto market cap remains valued at $4.03 trillion following a 0.34% gain in the past day.

Pump.fun’s PUMP Slumps as Meme Coin Market Stumbles

by admin September 21, 2025

In brief

  • The native token for meme coin launchpad Pump.fun led losses among crypto’s meme economy Friday morning.
  • Dogecoin, PEPE, BONK and other top meme tokens also lost ground, underperforming Bitcoin and Ethereum.
  • Gaming token Immutable jumped 17% on the day, buoyed by partnerships and broader altcoin momentum.

Meme coin markets cooled on Friday morning as Solana token launchpad Pump.fun’s flagship token tumbled by 9.2% in 24 hours, leading a wider retreat across the sector.

The token, now priced at $0.007213, has nevertheless surged 142% over the past 30 days. PUMP remains just 11.5% below its all-time high of $0.008819, reached September 14, per CoinGecko data. The mobile app has seen daily active users rise 450% in the past three months, according to company figures.

On prediction market Myriad (launched by Decrypt’s parent company DASTAN), users flipped on PUMP’s chances overnight. On Thursday, predictors placed a 54% chance on its market cap hitting $4 billion before it dropped to $2 billion. By Friday morning, users placed a 66% chance of its market cap dropping to the lower bound.

The downturn extended across the Pump.fun ecosystem, with its market cap slipping 6% to $3.85 billion. Notable losses included TROLL (down 10%) and Aura (down 12%), while smaller declines hit Fartcoin, PNUT and Moo Deng.

More established meme players mirrored the slump. Dogecoin slid 3.6%, Pudgy Penguins’ PUDGY dipped by 5.1%, PEPE and BONK notched declines, and newer entrants like CHILLGUY and HarryPotterObamaSonic10Inu (ETH) fell 7.6% and 6.4% respectively. Collectively, the meme market shed 4.8% over the past day, shrinking to $87.2 billion.

The losses contrasted with relatively mild dips for major cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin eased down 0.8% to $116,263, while Ethereum fell 1.3% to $4,521 amid ongoing staking concerns that have made yield strategies less reliable for holders.

Altcoins rally

Outside the meme sector, altcoins have rallied over the past days. Analysts suggest the SEC’s move to approve generic listing standards for crypto exchange-traded products may also add further fuel for select altcoins.

Gaming-linked crypto also showed some resilience. Immutable’s IMX token rallied 17% Thursday and 47% over the past week, lifted by the Federal Reserve’s recent rate cut and a string of industry partnerships, including with Ubisoft and NetMarble.

The momentum comes despite broader struggles in the crypto gaming space, where unsustainable token launches have forced multiple shutdowns this year.

This week, the first ETF with spot exposure to DOGE launched. Its initial rollout surpassed analyst expectations. “My over/under got destroyed in the first hour of trading as DOJE already posted nearly $6M in volume,” Bloomberg Senior ETF Analyst Eric Balchunas tweeted. “That’s shockingly solid. Most ETFs trade under $1M on day one.”

Web3 gaming is ready for embedded fair play

by admin September 21, 2025

Disclosure: The views and opinions expressed here belong solely to the author and do not represent the views and opinions of crypto.news’ editorial.

When people talk about web3 gaming, they usually think of tokens, economies, and speculation. But that’s missing the point. As many have pointed out, web3’s real magic for gaming is in going beyond play-to-earn. It’s about cryptography enabling fairness in ways web2 can’t. Web3 redefines what “fair play” means.

Summary

  • Vibecoding experiments show ZK’s potential — early tests with blackjack and slots revealed that while standard ZK proofs were slow, optimistic verification made real-time, provably fair gameplay possible.
  • ZK transforms gaming mechanics — it enables verifiable randomness, hidden strategies, and authentic leaderboards without exposing private data, making fairness a built-in feature.
  • Gambling is the first real use case — ZK proofs give players cryptographic assurance of fairness while helping casinos with audits and compliance, proving the model works where money is at stake.
  • Beyond gambling, fairness becomes a web3 primitive — from esports to reputation systems, ZK can embed trust and transparency into gaming and finance, unlocking entirely new applications.

My vibecoding journey

I came to this realization by playing around with vibecoding. I set out to recreate simple games like blackjack and slots, but with a twist. I prompted the AI to make use of zero-knowledge proofs as a part of the game’s key components.

To my surprise, they actually worked. My first attempt was a blackjack demo, but the proofs took thirty seconds to generate, which meant the gameplay was slow and clunky. No one wants to sit around waiting half a minute to see if they got lucky.

So I pivoted to vibecoding a slot machine game and tried implementing it with optimistic verification. This cut the verification time down to milliseconds, and suddenly, the game felt alive. It was able to prove fairness, and it was able to make it usable in real time.

The key takeaway from those experiments for me was that web3 gaming can already be about so much more than new monetization loops. It can unlock entirely new mechanics powered by cryptography, and the tech to do it is already here.

What ZK unlocks in games

ZK proofs transform how games handle randomness, strategy, and reputation. Take randomness, for starters. In online games and casinos, players have to trust the operator’s word that a shuffle or dice roll is fair. With ZK, fairness is provable. A casino or server can prove cryptographically that a deck was shuffled randomly without ever revealing the seed behind it. Every spin, roll, or deal can be verified by players in real time, eliminating the need for blind trust.

Then there’s strategy. In traditional games, if you want to prove you played by the rules, you often have to show your moves, which kills the element of secrecy and reveals your own gameplay quirks. ZK fixes this, too, by allowing players to prove they solved a puzzle or followed the rules of a strategy game without revealing how. In poker, for example, you can keep your hand hidden even from the backend server logic. In trading or finance, you can keep your strategy private while still showing that the results are valid.

Leaderboards are another obvious fit. Cheating and fake scores ruin online rankings. ZK proofs make scores verifiable, so a game can prove a player’s high score is authentic without exposing all the gameplay data behind it. That applies to reputation systems, too. Imagine proving your Uber rating is above 4.8 without exposing every review.

Why gambling is the first real use case

It’s no coincidence that gambling is one of the first industries testing ZK technology. Gamblers often rely on opaque infrastructure and the promise that regulators or auditors will keep things fair. But as the saying goes, “the house always wins.” What it doesn’t guarantee is that the house never lies.

With ZK, every game operation can come with an embedded proof of fairness according to custom parameters set by the game rules. You no longer have to trust that the shuffle or slot spin wasn’t manipulated because you can verify it yourself. Casinos, in turn, could benefit from using ZK proofs to streamline the process for audits and compliance checks.

If ZK can work in gambling, where money’s always on the table, it can work anywhere.

Beyond gambling: Fairness as a core web3 primitive

The implications go well beyond casinos, however. Verifiable randomness, private strategies, and provable scores are just the start. With scalable ZK-proofs, we can even create new genres of games and new types of applications that were previously unthinkable.

Competitive esports tournaments could use ZK to verify match outcomes and leaderboards. Social games could ensure rankings are tamper-proof. Reputation systems could allow users to prove credibility without exposing personal data. In DeFi, traders could protect their strategies while still proving they followed risk limits or achieved returns.

A fun vibecoding project crystallized what’s already in the back of many gamers and gamblers’ heads about web3: that its biggest contribution to the industry is perhaps embedded fairness.

While web2 gave us entertainment, web3 can give us entertainment we can trust. As zkVMs and ZK coprocessors mature, we’ll see entire genres of games built around trustless fairness. All of this lets “fair play” take on a whole new meaning. Fair play, guaranteed by math, is the real win condition for web3 gaming.

John Camardo

John Camardo is the head of product management at Horizen Labs, where he focuses on applying zero-knowledge cryptography to solve real-world problems. He currently leads the product side of zkVerify, a chain-agnostic modular blockchain dedicated to efficiently verifying ZK proofs.
