Nintendo Is Holding a 45-Minute Kirby Air Riders Direct On Tuesday

by admin August 19, 2025

Nintendo shared an update in its Nintendo Today app this morning that it will be live-streaming a Kirby Air Riders-focused Direct presentation on Tuesday, August 19.

“Tune in on Tuesday, August 19, for a livestreamed Kirby Air Riders Direct featuring about 45 minutes of information about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 game.”

The app then suggests you add the even to your calendar which reveals it will air at 8 a.m. CT.

Kirby Air Riders is the follow-up to the GameCube game, Kirby Air Rider (notice how the sequel is plural, like Aliens). Arguably one of the most interesting details about the game is that it is helmed by Masahiro Sakurai, the director of the Super Smash Bros. series, and the creator of Kirby. This will mark the first time Sakurai has actively worked on a dedicated Kirby game since the original Kirby Air Rider in 2003.

The description for the YouTube location where the Direct will air promises an appearance from Sakurai reading, “Join us on Aug 19 at 6 a.m. PT for a Kirby Air Riders Direct with director Mr. Sakurai. The livestreamed presentation will last roughly 45 minutes and provide an in-depth look at the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 game.”

Kirby Air Riders currently does not have a release date beyond the vague 2025.

Skate 4 Will Have 100 Songs And Support 150-Players Lobbies

by admin August 19, 2025

The next Skate game from EA, which is often called Skate 4 online by fans, is set to arrive via an early access launch later this year. And in a new blog from the devs behind the reboot, we learned that music is a big part of the upcoming skateboarding game and that a whole lotta people will be able to play it together online.

This new Skate game was first officially announced all the way back in June 2020. And over the years, the game has leaked numerous times while EA has also released official early footage of it and brought in fans to playtest it. The development of Skate (which is not called Skate 4 for some reason) has been remarkably transparent, and as part of this, developers Full Circle have released regular blog posts sharing new details about the reboot. And in the latest one, the devs shared a bunch of information on how music–a very important part of any good skateboarding game–will work in Skate.

🚨We will be inviting all registered skate. Insiders to come playtest in July. Check your emails.

The latest build has improved textures and lighting, more challenges, and changes to our progression system. pic.twitter.com/fyjxtOj3qi

— skate. (@skate) June 17, 2025

In the most recent installment of “The Grind,” EA and Full Circle announced that Skate will launch with “about 100” songs. These songs will be grouped into different, themed playlists that will act like radio stations. Players will be free to like songs and create their own playlist of favorites. There will also be a playlist that will feature songs other players are listening to and liking, which will update over time. As for what kind of music to expect in Skate, Full Circle says the team is “focused on emerging artists” and that they included some “deep cuts” that the devs hope will help players “discover” new favorites.

EA and Full Circle also plan to add new songs to the game as it changes live-service seasons every three months. It also sounds like music that’s less popular with players might leave the game, but EA says it will make sure that the tracks you favorite and enjoy stick around in Skate “for longer.”

While losing music is a bit of a shame, I’m excited to hear devs promising regular music updates. With live-service games that players are expected to play for months or years, new music being added over time can help reinvigorate things. There are only so many times you can hear the same tunes over and over before starting to hate them. As someone who has played GTA Online for over a decade, trust me on this.

In the latest blog post, the devs also said that the team is aiming for about 150 players per server session. And yes, in case you forgot or weren’t aware, Skate is an always-online free-to-play skating game, so multiplayer is a big part of the equation. Over on Reddit, players who have been involved in playtesting have suggested that servers only supported 80 players during their time with the game, but that EA wanted to up that number to 150, which the blog confirms. 150 players is a lot, so hopefully Skate‘s open world is large enough to support all those skateboarding hooligans listening to music and popping kick flips.

Skate 4 aka the Skate reboot doesn’t have a specific release date yet, but EA says it will be available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via early access at the end of the summer.

This Old-School Dungeon Crawler Is Free On Steam If You Grab It Quickly

by admin August 19, 2025

Last year, solo developer Chris Allen released his old-school dungeon crawler Shade Silver on PC. Now, Allen is temporarily giving Shade Silver away for free on Steam, if you take the time to grab it before the offer expires.

To claim Shade Silver, the only thing players need to do is claim it on Steam before 10 AM PT on August 21. After that time, you’ll have to pay for it.

The game casts players as a wizard named Shade Silver as he embarks on a side-scrolling adventure that forces him to avoid traps, shoot enemies, solve puzzles, find treasures, and even bribe a few ogres to advance to the next level. There are four bosses and boss battles across 81 levels, with multiple secrets to discover along the way.

Allen has also shared a trailer for his next solo-dev game, Vein-Weaver Knitting. The demo for that game is already on Steam.

Valve recently unveiled a tweak to the way that reviews are displayed on Steam to make them more relevant for players. Valve is also refreshing the look of Steam’s game pages to make them wider, with more room for images and videos. However, Steam and other digital outlets have been bending to pressure from the anti-porn non-profit Collective Shout and removing NSFW games from search results or banning them altogether.

One of the games banned by Steam was the indie psychological horror game, Vile: Exhumed, which is now available as a free download.

Mafia: The Old Country will get a proper open world mode via game update “in the coming months”

by admin August 19, 2025

Mafia: The Old Country may be an offer you can probably refuse, but it does have a lush-looking open world – “clearly designed with care and a sharp eye for capturing the beauty of a fairytale landscape that alternates between serene and rugged,” as Mark “Ice Pick” Warren wrote in our review.

The game’s focus on shootybangs and stabfights does the backdrop a disservice, as does its rather barren and easy-to-miss Exploration mode, which I hear is basically a chance to snaffle up some collectibles. Devs Hangar 13 and their godfathers at 2K Games aim to fix all that with a forthcoming Free Ride mode, which will “add some new activities and gameplay, arriving free for all players in the coming months,” according to a developer update.

Hangar 13’s previous Mafia: Definitive Edition also had a Free Ride mode, which let you roam Lost Heaven taking on new missions and races and even tussling with alien invaders. I would assume The Old Country’s version will be similar in both content and direction. Can’t wait to see what flying saucers look like in 1900s Sicily.

I’m always happy when blockbuster devs add modes that encourage you to revisit and savour the texture of the world. Projects such as Mafia: The Old Country typically pour tens of millions into the creation of art assets that are doomed to be appreciated for around five seconds while players zip fecklessly from cover to cover.

I guess that mingled decadence and disposability is part of the triple-A thrill, like burning 100 dollar bills to light a cigar. Have you ever done that? I once set a five pound note on fire for a dare, but I extinguished it immediately and, I think, bought a coffee with it. This is why I will never run 2K Games.

Again, there’s no hard launch date yet for Free Ride in Mafia: The Old Country. In the shorter term, Mark has dug up a first-person driving mod, which allows you to savour the period detail at the modest expense of occasionally seeing your own eyeballs floating in front of your face.

Update: Fake Account Claims God Of War Developer Sony Santa Monica Is Working On A New ‘Technically Ambitious’ IP

by admin August 18, 2025

Update (August 18 at 6:07 p.m. CT): Sony has offered a very short follow-up to our outreach simply writing, “This account is not associated with Cory Barlog or Santa Monica Studio.”

Update (August 18 at 12:02 p.m. CT): Following publication of this story, it became apparent that the account in question is more than likely intentionally inauthentic. As a result, we have cause to believe this news is likely inaccurate. We apologize for this mistake. We have reached out to Sony for further confirmation, and will update this story again should we receive comment.

Original story (posted August 18 at 9:27 a.m. CT):

Cory Barlog (pictured above being asked rapid-fire questions about God of War), director of God of War II and 2018’s God of War, shared some vague details about what the team at Sony Santa Monica is currently working on. Sony Santa Monica is the developer, most recently, behind God of War Ragnarök.

“I’d like to share a little bit about our new project,” Barlog wrote on Facebook. “I’m incredibly proud of what the team at Santa Monica Studio has been accomplishing. It’s a technically ambitious project, something that’s not easy to achieve. This is a new IP we’ve been working on for years, and if all goes well, we’re planning to show it to you later this year. I couldn’t be more excited.” Barlog ended the post with two heart emojis.

Barlog’s post doesn’t specify that this is Sony Santa Monica next project or that it is its only project. Since the release of Ragnarök’s free rogue-lite mode DLC, it has been quiet about what’s next.

In terms of God of War, developer Bluepoint Games (primarily known for its remakes of Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls) was working on a live-service game connected to the God of War franchise. That game was publicly cancelled earlier this year according to a statement Sony shared with Bloomberg.

Whatever this new project may be, we will apparently learn more about it later this year.

Team behind BAFTA-award winning Endling – Extinction is Forever announces next game

by admin August 18, 2025

Developer Herobeat has announced its next game, Rewilders: The Lost Spring, which has been inspired by the works of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli films.

The developer is known for its debut game Endling – Extinction is Forever, which was released back in 2022 and went on to score itself not only a BAFTA win, but a nomination at the Game Awards as well. Rewilders: The Lost Spring is a follow up to Endling – Extinction is Forever, though not a sequel. That said, the developer has promised “echoes” of its predecessor’s storytelling, as well as its aesthetics and score.

Rewilders is described as an open-world action roguelite, which will come with creature collection and metroidvania-like progression. Players will take on the role of Abi, who returns to “the poisoned surface of the world” to both rescue her family and restore the wild. “Discover corrupted biomes and face off against twisted creatures born from a failed society,” reads the official blurb.

You can check out a trailer for Rewilders: The Lost Spring below.

  • Roguelite elements: with randomised rewards, enemies, and starting points plus a forgiving death and respawn systems.
  • Interconnected world with metroidvania-style progression: using gliders, wall runs, grapples and more.
  • Base-building system: grow plants and fruits to level up your Hântu and unlock permanent buffs.
  • Narrative progression: choose between Memory or Hatred to shape your build and gameplay path.

Rewilders: The Lost Spring is in development for PC and consoles. It currently does not have a release date, but its website is now live.

Fans Are Afraid Of Conjuring 4’s Spooky Anabelle Popcorn Bucket

by admin August 18, 2025

We are still firmly in the “Gimmick Popcorn Bucket Era” of movie theaters, and it shows no signs of stopping. Usually, these gimmicky popcorn buckets are items that fans want to buy and collect. But it seems like not many people want the creepy bucket for The Conjuring: Last Rites, featuring iconic haunted doll Annabelle. I wonder why.

On August 18, Regal Cinema shared a photo of its popcorn bucket for the upcoming horror film, The Conjuring: Last Rites, the ninth (?!) film in the wildly popular Conjuring series. The movie is being marketed as a sort of ending for this era of the spooky franchise, though it sounds like more Conjuring universe movies will happen in the future. Anyway, as seen in Last Rites’ new trailer, the franchise’s famous haunted doll, Annabelle, is returning for the Conjuring’s finale. And to celebrate, Regal’s new popcorn bucket features the doll herself, connected to a faux-wooden bucket with the movie’s logo slapped on it. The bucket will be available to order on Wednesday, over two weeks before the movie’s release.

She’s been released once more… Annabelle popcorn buckets coming to Regal this Wednesday.🍿 pic.twitter.com/9cPobQ1Nkt

— Regal (@RegalMovies) August 18, 2025

In the Conjuring universe, where she has three of her own spin-off movies as well as appearances in the main series, Annabelle is portrayed as scary, dangerous, evil, and just generally not a good doll you want to take home. I wasn’t surprised, then, that a lot of fans online don’t want this cursed piece of plastic in their homes.

“Oh hell no lol,” said one user. “Um, that’s one bucket I don’t want,” said another person. Someone else replied: “Y’all can keep that one.”

“Am I supposed to take this home?” asked someone in a reply to DiscussingFilm‘s tweet about the doll bucket. A diffferent user replied to the same tweet with: “Nah nah nah nah you’re not gonna get me Annabelle, nice try.”

Haunt your popcorn with our #TheConjuring: Last Rites Annabelle popcorn bucket available starting August 22! pic.twitter.com/UiYfek3Nft

— Cinemark Theatres (@Cinemark) August 18, 2025

Meanwhile, on Monday, Cinemark shared a first look at its own Conjuring 4 popcorn bucket and uh, well, reactions were different. That’s mainly because Cinemark’s gimmick bucket featuring Annabelle makes you eat the popcorn out of her ass. Would Tom Cruise eat popcorn out of Annabelle’s ass? Probably, the dude loves popcorn. But others aren’t as interested. This bucket will be available on Friday, August 22.

The Conjuring: Last Rites, alongside all the fake Annabelle popcorn buckets you desire (or fear), arrives in theaters on September 5.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 And American Truck Simulator Finally Coming To PS5 And Xbox

by admin August 18, 2025

Euro Truck Simulator 2 has been only available on PC and Mac since its release in 2013, while American Truck Simulator has been parked on the same platforms since 2016. Euro Truck Simulator 2 has remained popular on Steam in that time despite its age. Now, both games are heading to to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

PlayStation Network has listed pages for Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator, while Xbox added the former and the latter shortly thereafter. Specific release dates have yet to be disclosed.

Just as the name suggests, Euro Truck Simulator 2 is set in several countries across Europe as players assume the role of a cargo truck driver. As part of the game, players have to manage the costs of each trip while saving money to expand their business, purchase a better truck and even hire additional AI drivers to put a trucking fleet together.

As the more recent game of the two, American Truck Simulator has a more refined presentation while giving players the option to deliver cargo across iconic locations in the country. The game also has enhanced customization features for players’ trucks and trailers, as well as different types of brakes that can be used in the game.

In 2023, SCS Software accepted ads from real trucking companies that placed recruitment billboards in American Truck Simulator. Perhaps some of those ads will carry over to the new console ports as well. SCS has also teased that more news may arrive at Gamescom later this week.

EA pave over Battlefield 2042’s bullet casing-filled potholes with a “road to Battlefield 6”

by admin August 18, 2025

The Battlefield 6 open beta is over. I’m sure everyone let out a final burst of fire that sounded equally triumphant and tragic at its conclusion. But wait, say EA, FPS lovers, where do you all think you’re going?

It’s at this point the publishers whip out Battlefield 2042, the much-maligned at release previous entry in the series, like they’re yanking a rabbit out of a marine’s helmet. He’s not Battlefield 2042 anymore, they say, he’s the “road to Battlefield 6”. A road one can only assume is littered with IEDs and checkpoints where five people are standing around looking mean.

This boulevard to blast central is update 9.2, and it’s chunky enough that I’d class it as a full-on repaint the road markings affair. Classic map Iwo Jima makes its 2042 debut, with “boat landings, bunkers, and trenches on a reimagined 700×200 map”. Oh, and an active volcano in case you want to renounce your warlike ways and take up volcanology.

Weapon-wise, there are two new guns – the KFS2000 assault rifle and the Lynx sniper rifle. Only the former’s being dished out to everyone, with the Lynx only being given to folks who played the Battlefield 6 beta to start with. EA insist anyone who didn’t hop into the beta will get a chance to grab it “later down the line”. Meanwhile, two new attack jets, the A10 Warthog and SU-25TM Frogfoot, have been added in. EA say they come with some revamped abilities and are designed to be “vehicle busters”.

That sounds a bit rough for folks down below, trundling along the “road to Battlefield 6” in tanks or jeeps. Anyway, I’ll drop the metaphor. The “road to Battlefield 6” is actually a 60-tiered free battle pass featuring a bunch of gear inspired by the series’ history. It includes some stuff to unlock for Battlefield 6 itself and will run from August 18th to October 7th.

If you want a reminder of what Battlefield 2042 was like when it first debuted, here’s Ed’s review. It’s also evolved a fair bit since then, so a run through our 2042 news archives is probably a good shout if you want cluing up on some of the changes EA have made over the years.
