Outer Worlds 2 Trailer Shows Off The Companions You Can’t Kiss

by admin August 19, 2025

There’s an extremely funny clip of political commentator Hasan Piker watching a video in which the guy narrating makes a joke about following Piker for reasons other than “his political views.” Piker pauses the video and goes to check and finds out that the creator does, in fact, subscribe to his Twitch channel, and then after he’s done, he unpauses the video and the narration continues with “thanks for unpausing the video, Hasan.” Piker, knowing he’s been read to filth, screams into his mic because this embarrassing moment has been caught on camera for millions to see. This is basically what just happened to me at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, in which Obsidian released a new trailer for The Outer Worlds 2 focusing on the RPG’s companions. Knowing that the original game didn’t include romantic relationships, I dropped a message in the Kotaku slack asking if I would be able to kiss a space man this time around, only for the trailer to say “and no, you can’t sleep with them” seconds later. Well fuck you, too, Mr. Announcer Guy.

I don’t know shit about fuck regarding this merry band of misfits, but I did see Tristan in all his rugged, bearded glory swinging around a giant hammer and my brain turned off. I can’t so much as give him a light peck on the cheek, but I guess we don’t all get what we want in this life, do we Obsidian? Why would you put this man in front of me if I can’t take a bite? Why show me something if I can’t have it? Isn’t this how Uncut Gems started? Just waving desirable things in front of people willing to pay money for them, only for it all to ultimately end in chaos and destruction?

Anyway, The Outer Worlds 2 is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on October 29, and I only accidentally typed Outer Wilds 2 once while writing this blog.

Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 4 Announced, Coming Next Year To PC

by admin August 19, 2025

The next entry in the Warhammer 40K series was announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live today, with Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War IV getting unveiled and set for a 2026 released on PC.

German developer King Art Games s producing Dawn of War IV, and it will be published by Deep Silver. The original Dawn of War games were made by Relic Entertainment. You can wishlist Dawn of War IV on Steam now. This is the first game in the series not made by Relic.

“Return to the RTS series’ roots with deeply satisfying strategy gameplay. Take command of four unique Warhammer 40,000 factions, including the Adeptus Mechanicus in their series debut! Fight through 70+ epic campaign missions, as well as the replayable Last Stand, Skirmish and multiplayer modes,” reads the game’s official description.

“In solo or co-op play, command each faction through its own dedicated campaign, supported by spectacular CGI intros and fully animated cutscenes,” the game’s description continues.

The story was written by John French (Black Library).

Dawn of War IV supports matches against AI enemies in the Skirmish mode, along with 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 multiplayer against other humans.

The announcement of Dawn of War IV comes not long after a remaster of the original Dawn of War was released earlier this year.

Dawn of War IV was one of many announcements at Gamescom Opening Night Live. Check out the gallery below to see more of the big news and reveals.

Valor Mortis will see Ghostrunner’s creators give Napoleonic era Europe the soulslike treatment in 2026

by admin August 19, 2025

Valor Mortis, a soulslike set during Napoleon’s 19th century conquest of Eastern Europe, has been revealed by Ghostrunner devs One More Level during Gamescom Opening Night Live’s preshow. It’s set for release in 2026.

Yep, if you’re a fan of games that drip with Frenchness and also revolve around beating up gaudily-health barred baddies before they do the same to you, this one might have you reaching for your musket and bicorne. That’s assuming the setting offers enough of a unique feel that Valor Mortis doesn’t resemble being trapped on a Fromsoft-imitation Elba.

Watch on YouTube

““With Valor Mortis, we wanted to try something new and original – a darker experience, while still offering players a true challenge,” One More Level CEO Szymon Bryla said. “After Ghostrunner, we knew we had the foundation to create a [first-person] title, but this time in a soulslike genre. At the same time, we wanted to stay true to what we do best – making demanding games for hardcore players, set in an engaging, expansive world, while showing that the studio has grown since our previous projects.”

The game’ll see you play as William, a Grande Armée soldier ressurected and given supernatural powers by the Nephtoglobin, a mysterious goop. Sadly, because video game, this goop has turned the world around him and his former comrades in arms into a plague-ridden hellscape prowled by mutants with extra limbs and bloated bodies.

The combat looks to add a BioShock-esque twist to the usual soulslike parry and dodge swordplay. You can dual-wield with guns like a flintlock pistol and abilities dubbed transmutations. The latter are William’s magic powers, and remind me a lot of plasmids. This time, it looks like you’ll be gaining the ability to shoot the likes of fire from your mitt by interacting with not quite dead bodies on the battlefield.

If there’s one thing the trailer emphasises, it’s that this game will not lack for battlefields full of dead bodies, with an entire montage dedicated to different locations in which the corpses are piled high. You’ll be able to get a look at those corpse piles if you sign up for a closed Valor Mortis playtest that’s set to kick off following Gamescom. Head to ValorMortis.com if you’re keen.

Or, wait until the full release, which maths tells me is sadly more than a hundred days away.

Hollow Knight Silksong ‘Special Announcement’ Set For August 21

by admin August 19, 2025

Hollow Knight: Silksong has been so anticipated for so many years that it’s become a meme, crowding the chat of every major game showcase of the last seven years. While we’ve had recent glimpses, like the announcement that it was coming to Switch 2, we haven’t heard a concrete update from Team Cherry since its announcement that it wouldn’t be releasing in 2023. This week, that will finally change.

Team Cherry’s official YouTube channel has a premiere set for Thursday, August 21, at 10:30 AM ET/ 7:30 AM PT. Its title reads, “Hollow Knight: Silksong – Special Announcement,” while the caption simply reads, “The countdown is on! Join us in 48 hours for a special announcement about Hollow Knight: Silksong!” It is unclear what exactly this announcement will involve, but fans are mostly just hoping for a release date.

Despite the general lack of information, Silksong is playable at this year’s Gamescom, according to Xbox, and it will be available on Microsoft’s ROG ALLY device, so we’re expecting some kind of announcement during Opening Night Live in a few hours. Geoff Keighley seemed to support this by posting a photo with a clown nose, potentially referencing the meme of Hollow Knight’s protagonist in clown attire that’s posted whenever we don’t get news about its sequel.

However, partnered with this announcement is a series of Bluesky posts from Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, who is known for accurately digging up information from behind the scenes of the games industry. Not only does he claim to have “the story behind why Silksong took seven years to make,” citing a video call he did with Team Cherry’s founders earlier this month, he also says, “No, Silksong’s release date will not be announced today at Gamescom Opening Night Live, despite Geoff Keighley’s teasing.” Team Cherry’s Thursday announcement will come after Opening Night Live, however, so there’s a chance we might get a date then. While Schreier has a solid track record in this line of work, none of this is confirmed, so take it all with a grain of salt.

Regardless of when it drops or what this trailer will bring, people will be there to watch it. With 15,000 in the YouTube audience a full 47 hours before it even happens, it’s safe to say this is one of the most anticipated games of the decade. Here’s hoping Team Cherry gives them something to get excited about.

Shinobi: Art Of Vengeance Is Getting Sega Guest DLC, Including Sonic’s Eggman

by admin August 19, 2025

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is due out later this month, and now Sega has announced a fun if surprising bit of DLC that’s coming “early 2026.” Dubbed the Sega Villains Stage, details are still pretty light on the DLC, but Sonic the Hedgehog’s Dr. Eggman is set to appear as a boss fight. Alongside that, protagonist Joe Musashi will have two other guest villains to take on, though they are yet to be revealed. If you’re picking up the digital deluxe edition of Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, you’ll automatically unlock it whenever the DLC does arrive next year.

Sega also announced that Young Dirty Bastard (YDB), i.e. the son of the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard from Wu-Tang Clan, is releasing a song called The Path Has Just Begun inspired by the Shinobi series. It’ll be released on streaming services this week, August 21, and you can expect a new trailer for the game on the same day.

Now Playing: Shinobi: Art of Vengeance – Announcement Trailer

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance was teased back at The Game Awards in 2023 before getting a proper reveal earlier this year, bringing the series back to its roots with 2D action-platforming. It’s also the first new game in the series since 2011’s Shinobi 3D, a 3DS title that received average reviews at the time. This new Shinobi game comes as part of a broader move by Sega to bring back some of its legacy titles that haven’t received a new entry in many years, like Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi. A movie adaptation of the Shinobi series is also in the works.

You’ll be able to pick up Shinobi: Art of Vengeance on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC when it launches on August 29.

Black Ops 7 release date spotted in the wilds ahead of Call of Duty’s latest Gamescom blowout

by admin August 19, 2025

True to the game’s billing as the twistiest of duty-shooters, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s release date trailer appears to have leaked ahead of a possible Gamescom Opening Night Live showing tonight. The new FPS will launch on 14th November, close to a month after rival Battlefield 6’s release on October 10th. Also, it appears to have jet packs and mechs.

The leak comes care of that ever-dependable source of military intelligence, a video advertisement that seems to have been accidentally published early. The ad has now been removed, but not before CharlieIntel spotted it and shared it on the Xeetbox, along with some thoughts based on the user’s own pre-release access. “Just to tone down expectations, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 does not have jet packs or double jumps as part of its movement,” CharlieIntel claims. Alas for Black Ops 3 and Halo: Reach players. Good news, I guess, for people who relish the ‘omnimovement’ of Black Ops 6.

Here is what we know of Call of Duty: Bleven for sure: it requires secure boot, to avoid cheaters. It’s got the usual co-op, zombies and competitive multiplayer bits. The campaign is set in 2035, hence the mechs and jet packs, and expands upon the global calamities unleashed in Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6. It sees grizzly grumbleface David Mason chasing after an enigmatic new foe who “weaponise fear”. There will probably be hallucinations and other Manchurian Candidate-esque horseplay to wash down the gadgets and gunnery.

As reported by VGC, today’s release date whoopsie corroborates a previous leak that also included a price tag for the Standard Edition – $70 or €80 – with a Vault Edition priced at $100 or €110. If legit, this means that Microsoft has still yet to cross the Rubicon and raise the game’s base US price to $80, as they tried to do with The Outer Worlds 2 until the internet started screaming at them.

Capcom asks PC Monster Hunter Wilds players to wait until Title Update 4 this winter for “CPU and GPU related optimizations”

by admin August 19, 2025

PC gamers who are hoping Capcom updates Monster Hunter Wilds to improve performance will have to wait a little longer. A statement made on X.com via the official Monster Hunter account has told players that improvements are coming, but not until this winter.

To our hunters playing #MHWilds on PC, we’re committed to listening to your feedback and improving both performance and stability of the game.

Although we will continue to implement gradual improvements in the weeks ahead, we are targeting Free Title Update 4 this winter to implement a multifaceted plan, including CPU and GPU related optimizations, followed by a second stage of mitigation measures afterwards.

We’ll share more information on the specifics in the future.

The news comes alongside the release of Hotfix patch Ver.1.021.02.00, which has dropped on PS5, Xbox, and PC.

Hotfix patch Ver.1.021.02.00 details:

Bug Fixes and Balance Adjustments

  • Fixed an issue that reduced the invulnerability window upon successfully performing the long sword’s Iai Spirit Slash against monster attacks that have long hit detection durations.
  • Fixed an issue where, when the Item Bar Display option is set to Type 1, if you select an item using the Item Bar while in Aim/Focus Mode and then release Aim/Focus Mode, the selected item would revert to an empty slot.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.

Nexon respond to claims they’re using AI-generated Tiktok streamers to advertise The First Descendant

by admin August 19, 2025

South Korean publishers Nexon are investigating a recent bit of TikTok marketing for their free-to-play shooter The First Descendant, after players spotted some ads that feature AI-generated ‘human’ streamers bigging up the game. Well, we at least have to assume it’s following that, as Nexon’s statement omits mentioning AI in favour of the wonderfully nebulous phrase “certain irregularities”.

If you’ve not seen one of these ads that look to have been posted by The First Descendant’s official account, allow me to show you, because you’ll see right quick why folks have been asking questions. Boom. There are further booms compiled into one Reddit post by user iHardlyTriHard down below.

As you can see, them be some weird renderings of streamy blokes, especially the one who says Nier: Automata in a fashion that’d be hilarious if this wasn’t terrible AI sloppage. Seriously, he pronounces it NEER (pause for ten seconds) audomada. He also gets points for doubling up on his use of free-to-play in his attempt to get you hyped about an F2P update to the F2P looter shooter, which has launched F2Ply.

Anyway, in addition to the more obviously not-streamers, it appears the first one in the compilation below may be based on the likeness of streamer DanieltheDemon. He’s since taken to the comments section of a TikTok about the clips to make clear he didn’t agree to any of this. “I have no affiliation nor contract with The First Descendant,” the streamer wrote. “They stole my face/reactions from my most viral video and used AI to change what my mouth says and a voice that isn’t mine. I did not consent for my likeness to be used…”

While you can’t find these full ads if you go to The First Descendant’s official TikTok account, you can see some of the gameplay clips the AI streamers have been paired with to deliver their samey sales pitches.

What do Nexon have to say about this? The following:

We would like to inform you of certain irregularities identified in the operation of our TikTok Creative Challenge for creators. As a part of our marketing campaign for Season 3: Breakthrough, we recently ran a Creative Challenge program for TikTok creators, which allows creators to voluntarily submit their content to be used as advertising materials. All submitted videos are verified through TikTok’s system to check copyright violations before they are approved as advertising content.

However, we have become aware of cases where the circumstances surrounding the production of certain submitted videos appear inappropriate. Thus, we are conducting a thorough joint investigation with TikTok to determine the facts. We sincerely apologize for the delay in providing this notice as the review is taking longer than expected. Once the verification is complete, we will promptly share an update through an official notice.

So, the company ran a competition of sorts that let anyone create ads for the game, which is a strange example of outsourcing at the very least, then seemingly left final approval for publication to TikTok’s copyright checker, which merrily waved this dodgy stuff through. Either that or Nexon potentially gave it all the green light themselves. Either way, oof.

We’ll have to see what the company say once that investigation’s concluded, but here’s hoping the next statement’s a bit more like the easier-to-parse response offered when Nexon were accused of taking a bit too much inspiration from some Destiny 2 icons.
