The Division 2: Survivors Announced, Ubisoft Says It’s “Your Baby”

by admin August 24, 2025

Ubisoft isn’t done supporting The Division 2 just yet, as the company has announced The Division 2: Survivors, which is described as an “updated take” on the game’s survival-extraction elements. Ubisoft also shared the latest update on The Division: Resurgence.

Development on Survivors is only just beginning, Ubisoft said, noting that The Division veteran Magnus Jansen is leading production as its creative director.

Not a whole lot is known about The Division 2: Survivors, but Ubisoft said it wants to develop it alongside the community. It is “as much your baby as it is ours,” executive producer Julian Gerighty said. “We strive for transparency during its development.”

“Clear communication and community involvement are a focus as we build the new experience, and we will be closely involving you as we move forward on the development journey,” Gerighty added.

Beyond The Division 2: Survivors, Ubisoft announced that it will launch a new test for the mobile game, The Division: Resurgence, in September. A closed test will take place on iOS and Android, with more testing to follow. Ubisoft has held tests for the game since 2023, and you can sign up for this newest test on Ubisoft’s website.

The Division: Resurgence takes place in Manhattan and its story takes place between the events of The Division and The Division 2. The game is a free-to-play RPG shooter that aims to offer “the same gameplay experience” as the console/PC edition but adapted for mobile.

In addition to The Division 2: Survivors and The Division: Resurgence, Ubisoft is working on The Division 3. It was announced in 2023 with little fanfare and we still don’t know much about it.

The Division 2 is currently available on Xbox Game Pass, and not just for Ultimate subscribers–Game Pass Standard members can play it through their membership as well.

Preorder The Shining Film Vault Special Edition At Walmart Before It’s Gone

by admin August 24, 2025

Stanley Kubrick and Stephen King fans can secure a preorder for a highly collectible 4K Blu-ray edition of The Shining at Walmart. Part of The Film Vault collector’s series, The Shining Special Edition Steelbook is available to order for $100 at Walmart ahead of its September 2 release in the US. Along with the steelbook case with new artwork, this limited-edition release comes with cigar box packaging, a double-sided poster, and a bunch of art cards. It looks like the ultimate collector’s version of the legendary horror movie, so snag a copy while you still can. A cheaper edition without the extras releases the same day. The Shining Solus Steelbook Edition is $65 and has sold out at least twice already.

Created by Vice Press in partnership with Warner Bros. UK, The Shining Special Edition is one of two early ’80s horror films in The Film Vault Wave 3. The Shining will launch alongside the 1982 supernatural horror film Poltergeist. Walmart is also taking preorders for Poltergeist’s Special Edition Steelbook and Poltergeist Solus Steelbook. Both editions were in stock at the time of writing. The Shining and Poltergeist Film Vault limited editions come with region-free 4K Blu-ray and 1080p Blu-ray discs.

The Film Vault Wave 3 at Walmart

$100 | Limited Edition | Releases September 2

  • Steelbook Case with exclusive artwork
  • Cigar Box with new artwork and Acetate O-Ring
    • Remove O-Ring for text-free display box
  • Numbered Holographic Sticker
  • Double-sided Movie Poster
    • Side 1: New poster by Matt Ferguson & Florey of Vice Press
    • Side 2: Retouched version of Saul Bass’ iconic Theatrical Poster
  • Art Cards
    • 5 Character Cards
    • 3 Behind-the-Scenes Cards
  • The Shining on 4K Blu-ray
  • The Shining & Special Features on Blu-ray

Note: Both of the Film Vault editions listed on Walmart’s site, along with a couple of other retailer-exclusive versions, sold out months ago in the UK and at specialty Blu-ray shops.

Walmart will almost certainly sell out of both editions before launch. If you missed out on the 2025 Walmart-exclusive Steelbook Edition of The Shining, now’s your chance to grab one that looks much cooler. But you may want to move fast. I wrote an article about Walmart’s The Shining Steelbook when preorders opened last December, and it sold out the following day.

The Film Vault: The Shining Special Edition

The Shining Special Edition Steelbook by Vice Press & Warner Bros. UK

The Film Vault places the movie title and other text on acetate O-rings, allowing fans to choose whether to display the cigar box with or without words and logos. The new artwork by Matt Ferguson and Florey looks beautiful. The cigar box has a large silhouette of Jack Torrance with the fireman’s axe overlooking (sorry) the Overlook Hotel. On the back is Jack’s typewriter, and there are even words on the paper–likely the same sentence over and over again. The artwork on the steelbook case recreates the scene where Jack trudges through the hedge maze.

The steelbook artwork is also featured on the double-sided movie poster. The other side is a retouched version of Saul Bass’ well-known poster that was created for The Shining’s 1980 theatrical release. The eight art cards showcase memorable shots from the film as well as behind-the-scenes production photographs.

If you’re unfamiliar with The Film Vault, it’s a series of collectible editions of classic movies from the Warner Bros. and Universal Pictures film catalogs. The Film Vault was created in 2022 by Vice Press, a UK company specializing in officially licensed movie collectibles and artwork. All of the 4K Blu-rays released by The Film Vault are region-free discs, but as a UK company, these limited-edition versions of all-time classics aren’t regularly found at US retailers. We suspect The Shining is exclusive to Walmart in the US.

The Film Vault: The Shining Steelbook Edition

The Shining Solus Steelbook Edition by Vice Press & Warner Bros. UK

At the time of writing, The Shining Solus Steelbook Limited Edition is sold out–but we’d recommend checking to see if Walmart restocked it. It has already received at least one restock. It was sold out when I first found the store page August 22, but I was able to order a copy on August 23, just a few hours before writing this story.

The above image provides a look at the back cover of the steelbook case and the hedge maze landscape artwork on the inside covers. Just like with the Special Edition, the Solus Steelbook comes with an acetate O-ring with with the title and other text. It is worth noting that the Special Edition’s O-ring is for the cigar box–you won’t get a second O-ring for the steelbook case.

$124 | 2-Book Hardcover Box Set (1,396 Pages)

If you are interested in a $100 edition of The Shining, it’s a safe bet that you or someone you know is a huge fan. As a massive fan myself, I can say that if I had to choose between a fancy new edition of The Shining on 4K Blu-ray or the recently released compendium about the film, I would pick the compendium without thinking twice.

Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining is a two-volume, 1,396-page box set that offers a staggeringly comprehensive look at the making of the film. This beautiful slipcase collection was designed by M/M Paris and published by Taschen earlier this year.

Written by J.W. Rinzler and edited by Pixar director Lee Unkrich, this compendium is based on hundreds of hours of interviews and mountains of investigative research. The first book, which includes an introduction by Steven Spielberg, chronicles every step of the production. When I received my copy earlier this year, I was astounded by the level of detail provided throughout the roughly 900-page hardcover book. If there’s a more thorough making-of book about a single movie, I would be shocked. This book is nearly as long as all three volumes in Rinzler’s The Making of Star Wars series, which is also fantastic.

The box set also comes with a gorgeous scrapbook filled with a wide array of photographs, artwork, and documents related to the production of The Shining.

To put it simply: This compendium is the best collection of behind-the-scenes material–across any medium–I’ve ever read.

Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining is in stock at Amazon for $124, but it’s unknown how many copies the publisher printed and whether it will receive additional print runs. Amazon sold out when preorders opened last summer, and the box set remained out of stock until a few months ago.

Lost In Space Limited Edition 4K Blu-Ray Preorders Are 50% Off

by admin August 24, 2025

Amazon is offering a 50% discount on Arrow Video’s upcoming 4K Blu-ray restoration of Lost in Space. Lost in Space Limited Edition is available to preorder for only $25 (was $50) ahead of its September 2 release.

Directed by Stephen Hopkins, the sci-fi film starring Gary Oldman and William Hurt wasn’t warmly received in 1998. To be fair, the original 1960s TV series it was based on wasn’t a critical success either. Nevertheless, the film and series were commercial successes, and both are considered cult classics today. Netflix even created a reimagining of the original series back in 2018 that ran for three seasons.

If you enjoyed the Netflix series but haven’t watched the film, the new 4K Blu-ray edition should be the best way to watch it going forward. For longtime Lost in Space fans, the Limited Edition, like all of Arrow Video’s restorations of classic films, looks like a cool collector’s item.

$25 (was $50) | Releases September 2

Restored in native 4K (2160p) resolution using the original camera negative, Lost in Space’s 4K Blu-ray edition was approved by director Stephen Hopkins. Along with retaining the original aspect ratio, the 4K edition supports High Dynamic Range–Dolby Vision and HDR10–as well as two audio options: lossless stereo and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound.

The Limited Edition comes with a reversible sleeve and cover art: One side has the original theatrical poster, while the other (shown above) is a brand-new illustration exclusive to this edition–it looks awesome. You’ll also find an illustrated booklet with commentary from Neil Sinyard, original production notes, and multiple articles on the movie that originally appeared in American Cinematographer.

In addition to the premium packaging and physical extras, Lost in Space has a bunch of on-disc bonus content, including new interviews and archival featurettes from past Blu-ray and DVD editions. You can check out the full list of Lost in Space Limited Edition features below.

Lost in Space Limited Edition Bonus Features

Fans can watch new interviews with Hopkins, screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, supervising art director Keith Pain, director of photography Peter Levy, and others.

New Features

  • Reversible sleeve and cover art
  • Illustrated booklet
  • 4K restoration from original camera negative, approved by director Stephen Hopkins
  • HDR: Dolby Vision and HDR10
  • Audio: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 / Lossless stereo audio
  • A Space Odyssey: Interview with director Stephen Hopkins
  • Lights in the Sky: Interview with director of photography Peter Levy
  • A Journey Through Time: Interview with producer and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman
  • Art of Space: Interview with supervising art director Keith Pain
  • Crafting Reality: Interview with Kenny Wilson, former mould shop supervisor at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop
  • Sound of Space: Interview with sound mixer Simon Kaye and re-recording mixer Robin O’Donohue
  • Lost But Not Forgotten in Space: Video essay by film critic Matt Donato

More Bonus Features

  • Audio commentary with Hopkins and Goldsman
  • Audio commentary with Peter Levy, Angus Bickerton, Lauren Ritchjie, Ray Lovejoy, and Carla Fry
  • Building the Special Effects: Featurette with Bickerton and animatics supervisor Mac Wilson
  • The Future of Space Travel: Exploring the film’s vision of the future
  • TV Years: Q&A with the original cast of the TV series
  • Bloopers
  • Deleted scenes

Lost in Space Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray (Arrow Video)

Lost in Space cleverly adapted elements from the TV show and tweaked them for the big screen. The film retains core premise of the TV series–which sees the Robinson family flung to a distant galaxy thanks to the machinations of Gary Oldman’s traitorous Dr. Zachary Smith–and adds new story elements groundbreaking visual effects at the time. Lost in Space stars an ensemble cast that includes William Hurt, Mimi Rogers, Matt LeBlanc, and Heather Graham. This was a big movie for New Line Cinema at the time it premiered, marking a pivot from the studio’s history of producing low-budget horror films and well-received indie films and into box office blockbusters.

New & Upcoming Arrow Video Limited Edition 4K Blu-rays

Arrow Video has multiple other exciting releases on the horizon, including 4K restorations of the 1997 superhero movie Spawn and a bunch of horror movies. Some of the highlights: Creepshow 2, the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, John Carpenter’s In the Mouth of Madness, and Ringu, the 1998 Japanese film that was remade in North America as The Ring.

All of the movies listed below are Limited Edition 4K Blu-rays. We’ve organized the list by release date.

Kirby Air Riders Brings Sakurai’s Smash Experience To A Switch 2 Racing Game

by admin August 24, 2025

When I watch a great pro match of a fighting game like Marvel vs. Capcom 2 or Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, my reaction is equal parts awe and bafflement. The sheer speed and hyper-kinetic action flies by so quickly that I can only make sense of a percentage of what I’m seeing, and the people who have mastered the chaos must be a different species. Kirby Air Riders is like that: a bubblegum colorful confection of speed, agility, and action that feels overwhelming, but still fun to play.

My hands-on experience at Gamescom started with some tutorials showing the ropes of handling your ride. The ride accelerates automatically, which may seem like it suggests simplicity, but there’s still a lot of finesse and fine control to handling your ride. Nailing a drift around a corner takes precise timing, and when you take a jump you can get a speed boost with a clean landing–which means tilting your racer slightly to land parallel if you’re coming up on a hill. Those mechanics felt approachable and easy to grasp during the limited time of a demo, but had enough depth that the skill ceiling looks high.

Now Playing: Kirby Air Riders Is Faster, Deeper, and Cleaner Than The Original

This is a sequel to Kirby’s Air Ride, but the shift to Air Riders is a significant one. There’s a particular emphasis on the characters themselves and their unique powers, and this is where I could most keenly sense Masahiro Sakurai’s experience with the Smash Bros. series. It feels like an evolution of that, and bringing that spirit of balancing different power sets into a new racing context.

After the tutorial featured, I played as two different characters: Magalor, the antagonist of Kirby’s Return to Dreamland; and Starman, a recurring Kirby enemy. The riders seem to handle slightly differently, but the major difference is their special moves. Magalor activates a massive beam that shoots behind him, hitting any opponents that are coming up on your tail. By contrast, Starman’s special was not an offensive tool at all. Instead, he could fly into the air on command using your regular spin attack while the special was activated. This seems primarily suited to help reach high places, though in a pinch you could also use it to dodge, at the expense of some speed.

The demo mostly focused on the City Trials mode, which is separated into two parts. First you explore the wide-open hub area gathering power-ups and switching your weak starter vehicle for a better one. There’s a layer of strategy here, as various icons that you collect give you increased defense, weight, boost, and so on. You can use these to compensate for any of your racer’s weaknesses, or make a naturally strong aspect even stronger. Once the first phase is over, everyone’s total power-ups get tallied up and your build gets taken into the second phase. I could imagine that, as players grow more familiar with the game, serious competitive players will start to optimize combinations of racers and air rides with which types of icons they should prioritize for collection.

Kirby Air Riders

Gallery

The build you craft during this first phase has a huge bearing on how competitive you’ll be in the second one. Once all the players tally up their powers, they’re able to choose one of four game types, and the game will recommend one that’s optimized for your build. Some are more combat-focused while others are centered more on racing. I chose the recommended mode in my first game, a combat/racing fusion with Magalor and held my own decently well. For my second game, I picked one of the modes that was not recommended (mainly in order to stay grouped with the other human players in our closed session) and my unoptimized build showed on the almost pure racing track. Plus, Starman’s vertical-focused power just isn’t the best for a regular race around an oval track, but maybe I just need to get good.

Both phases feel extremely fast, so while one is about prepping a build, they both reward skilled play. And it’s easy to see, even from my limited experience, how choosing your rider, finding your ride, and gathering power-ups could lead to a fierce Kirby Air Riders meta, as advanced Air Riders players explore different options to optimize their competitive edge.

For casual players like myself, Kirby Air Riders looks to be a sweet experience to play with friends, especially in couch co-op, fueling a rowdy party atmosphere. But I suspect that there’s going to be a whole other layer of the game, with the speed and skill of a fighting game, and that one seems destined for the competitive stage.

Why Did Silksong Take So Long? It’s Not What You Might Think

by admin August 24, 2025

Team Cherry’s Hollow Knight sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong, is finally releasing on September 4 after years of development and fears from the community that the game may never see the light of day. But Silksong is real, we’ve played it, and the upcoming launch is looming so large that multiple game studios have delayed their upcoming projects to get out of the way. But why did Silksong take so long to make?

Team Cherry founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen said Silksong was not stuck in development hell or anything like that. The enormous success of the 2017 game–it’s sold more than 15 million copies–allowed the Australia-based developers to develop the follow-up at their own pace.

Now Playing: Hollow Knight: Silksong – Official Release Date Reveal Gameplay Trailer

“It was never stuck or anything,” Gibson told Bloomberg. “It was always progressing. It’s just the case that we’re a small team, and games take a lot of time. There wasn’t any big controversial moment behind it.”

Silksong was originally envisioned as an expansion to Hollow Knight, but it became a big enough project to shift to a full, standalone release. That’s one of the reasons why it didn’t come out sooner.

As for why Team Cherry went quiet and didn’t discuss development updates with fans over the years, Gibson said the team opted not to because, “All we could really say is, ‘We’re still working on it.'”

Pellen added: “Instead of popping up and bugging people for the sake of it, it felt like our actual responsibility was just to work on the game.”

At one point, Silksong was officially scheduled to launch before June 2023, and Pellen said the team did “genuinely believe” the game would make it out then. But that didn’t happen, of course.

The wait could have been even longer. Gibson said Team Cherry has a development structure that allows its members to “see results fasts,” with ideas turning into real elements of the game “almost immediately.” That was a fun way to work, Gibson said, but it also presented challenges.

“I remember at some point I just had to stop sketching,” Gibson said. “Because I went, ‘Everything I’m drawing here has to end up in the game. That’s a cool idea, that’s in. That’s a cool idea, tha’ts in.’ You realize, ‘If I don’t stop drawing, this is going to take 15 years to finish.'”

Silksong will release on September 4 for console and PC, and you’ll be able to play it at launch via Game Pass.

“Hollow Knight: Silksong appears to be exactly what we all should have expected: a strong, well-designed, visually lovely game that carries forward the aesthetic and design philosophies of the original with thoughtful, if not earth-shattering, updates,” Steve Watts wrote after going hands-on with Silksong at Gamescom this week.

Save $40 On Silent Hill 2’s PlayStation 5 Remake For A Limited Time

by admin August 24, 2025

Silent Hill 2’s excellent remake is discounted to only $30 (was $70) for PS5 at Amazon and Walmart. This limited-time offer matches the lowest price ever for the PS5 and PC survival horror game. PC players can get a Steam key from Fanatical for $37.79.

$30 (was $70)

Originally released for PS2 in 2001, Silent Hill 2 is widely regarded as one of the best survival horror games of all time. A remastered version appeared in the Silent Hill HD Collection in 2012, but Bloober Team’s 2024 remake is a fully rebuilt, modernized take on the Konami classic. The stunning visual overhaul makes Silent Hill 2’s haunting atmosphere all the more terrifying. The reworked soundtrack aptly captures the game’s tone, and the voice actor performances elevate the narrative.

Bloober Team’s remake is a dark descent into a world with an oppressive atmosphere. Full of surreal nightmares, players not only have to survive the terrors stalking Silent Hill but find answers to the questions that have haunted the protagonist James Sunderland for several years.

Now’s a great time to play Silent Hill 2, as the next entry in the franchise releases September 25. Silent Hill f is a standalone spin-off set in the 1960s. Unlike Silent Hill 2’s remake, the spin-off isn’t exclusive to PlayStation on consoles. Silent Hill f is available to preorder for $70 on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Console players should check out Amazon’s exclusive Day One Edition that includes a double-sided poster.

PC players can save 25% on Steam key preorders at Fanatical. The standard edition is only $52.49, and the Digital Deluxe is $60 (was $80). The Digital Deluxe Edition comes with multiple in-game items and outfits as well as early access starting September 23.

With the latter, you’re saving a full $20 and will get multiple in-game items as well as early access starting September 23.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Season One Coming To Blu-Ray This Fall

by admin August 24, 2025

Fairy Tail was a massively popular manga and anime series during its original run from the mid-200s through the 2010s, and not long after its saga wrapped up, a new sequel series hit the scene. Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest has been in print since 2018, but it wasn’t until recently that it got an anime adaptation. In case you missed out on it, the good news is that you can preorder the upcoming Blu-ray release ahead of its release for $80 on November 4 through Amazon and CrunchyRoll. This edition of the complete first season also comes inside a stylish steelbook case, featuring the main cast of Fairy Tail on the cover.

$80 | Releases November 4

Set one year after the war with the Alvarez Empire and the destruction of the evil black dragon Acnologia, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest sees Natsu Dragneel and his allies embark on an ambitious mission to seal the Five Dragon Gods. The Blu-ray release contains all 25 episodes from the first season across four discs and in 1080p, with Japanese and English audio options. For the extras, there are clean credit sequences, an interquel recap episode, and promo videos.

Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest Special Features

  • Episode 13.5 – Going Off Topic: Lucy’s Diary
  • Fairy Tail promo videos
  • Promo videos
  • Textless opening and ending songs

Check out deals on paperback box sets of the original manga.

If you’re new to the world of Fairy Tail, then you’ll also want to check out the original series. Created and illustrated by Hiro Mashima, the series is set in a magical land of wizards and follows Natsu and his eclectic friends as they take on quests for their guilds and tangled with dark wizards. While the series isn’t groundbreaking and can be slightly derivative, it’s still a consistently fun show thanks to its quirky characters, well-paced action, and emotionally heavy plots that come out of nowhere.

The best way to check out the original manga–which ran for an impressive 545 chapters across 63 volumes–is through the manga box sets currently available for sale. Each one collects around 11 paperback volumes and come with exclusive sticker sheets and a slipcase box to store them in. Pricing ranges from $60-$80 for each discounted collection.

Check out the original long-running Fairy Tail anime on Blu-ray.

The original Fairy Tale also received its own anime adaptation. All 328 episodes of the show are available on Blu-ray and include Japanese with English subtitles and the English dub, as well as a few special features like clean credit sequences and promotional materials. Collections one through ten also come with DVD copies of the series, but starting with Collection 11, these changed to Blu-ray and digital streaming code combos.

Stunning New H.P. Lovecraft Complete Box Set Restocked At Amazon

by admin August 24, 2025

H.P. Lovecraft is responsible for a long list of classic horror stories that continue to be highly influential in the world of literature, film, television, and video games. The author’s blend of unsettling cosmic horror with sci-fi/fantasy and Gothic settings–almost always with an ample dose of weird–is so recognizable that the word Lovecraftian is used to describe stories inspired by his work. Stories like The Call of Cthulhu and At the Mountains of Madness are still well-worth reading nearly 100 years after they were first published. Those stories and the rest of Lovecraft’s writings are now available in a premium box set that looks absolutely stunning.

The H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society worked with publisher Weldon Owen–an imprint of Insight Editions–to craft a comprehensive two-volume collection called The H.P. Lovecraft Experience Deluxe Box Set. It quickly sold out on release day (August 5) earlier this month, but it’s back in stock for $97.64 (was $100) on August 22.

$97.64 (was $100)

This is almost certainly the most stunning Lovecraft collection you can find at a major retailer or bookstore.

The 1,888-page collection is spread across two striking, dark green volumes hardbound in leatherette to resemble high-quality books from Lovecraft’s time. The cover and spines have foil-stamped insignias and lettering.

The H.P. Lovecraft Experience includes all of the author’s work, so this is a one-stop shop for his novels, novellas, short stories, and other writings.

The two books are packaged inside a sculpted display case featuring a new 3D depiction of Cthulhu. When we say 3D, we mean that Cthulhu rises from the surface of the case, which makes the cosmic entity more terrifying than it already is.

The oversized display box houses more than just the two books, though. The H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society created a brand-new Reader’s Guide that examines 10 of Lovecraft’s short stories. The guidebook was written by Sean Branney and Andrew Leman, the co-founders of the Lovecraft Historical Society, and should be an interesting read for newcomers and experienced readers alike. The Reader’s Guide matches the look of the two main volumes, but it’s sized like notebook. The format here keeps with the overarching theme of the collectibles.

All of the supplements are tied to Miskatonic University, a fictional Massachusetts college that plays a major role in many of Lovecraft’s stories, including all of his work related to the Cthulhu.

Big Lovecraft fans will probably want to frame their diploma from Miskatonic University that’s included here–but only after you follow The Undergraduate Course Book, presented as a small booklet. Other Miskatonic-themed collectibles you’ll find in the box include a bookmark, a library card, a patch, and a decal.

The H.P. Lovecraft Experience is also available as a Kindle ebook for $20. Obviously, you’ll miss out on the collectibles and premium presentation, but you’ll still get both volumes and the Reader’s Guide.

More Lovecraft Box Sets & Collections

Since most of Lovecraft’s work is in the public domain, you can read many of his horror stories for free online. You’ll also find a dizzying number of Lovecraft collections on Amazon. But keep in mind that Lovecraft being in the public domain means that there are a lot of terribly designed editions created by random people across the world.

Strangely, The H.P. Lovecraft Experience is one of the rare editions of the author’s complete writings that actually looks nice. There are cheaper options that that readers like, but they aren’t always as comprehensive.

One solid budget-friendly option is The H.P. Lovecraft Collection: 6-Book Deluxe Box Set. The set includes clothbound editions of six of the author’s best-known works in a display box. The artwork and cover designs aren’t super exciting, but the books themselves are well-made. It’s on sale for $28 (was $60) at Amazon. Here’s the list of books included in the box set:

  • At the Mountains of Madness
  • The Dunwich Horror
  • The Call of Cthulhu
  • The Shadow over Innsmouth
  • Polaris
  • The Color Out of Space
  • Rats in the Walls

The same publisher released The Necronomicon: 5-Book Box Set in paperback in 2021. The Necronomicon includes Lovecraft stories as well Cthulhu Mythos tales by other authors. You can get The Necronomicon Box Set for $23 (was $40).

H.P. Lovecraft: The Complete Fiction – Barnes & Noble Collectible Edition

We’d also recommend the Barnes & Noble Collectible Edition of Lovecraft’s Complete Fiction. This beautiful hardcover edition has a premium binding, illustrated endpapers, and a ribbon bookmark. Plus, it’s only $27 (was $30) and is eligible for Barnes & Noble’s Buy One, Get One 50% off Collectible Edition sale until September 2.

For another respected edition, check out The Complete Fiction of H.P. Lovecraft for $14 (was $18). This 1,112-page hardcover was published by Chartwell Books in 2016 and remains a great option today. The Complete Tales of H.P. Lovecraft, published in 2019 by Rock Point, is essentially the same book, but it has more evocative cover art–though it costs roughly $19.60 (was $35).

H.P. Lovecraft Manga Adaptations

H.P. Lovecraft manga adaptations by Gou Tanabe (Dark Horse Manga)

Lovecraft fans and horror manga readers in general should definitely check out the manga adaptations of Lovecraft’s work. Written and illustrated by Gou Tanabe and translated to English by Zack Davisson, the manga is hauntingly beautiful. You can probably already tell by the cover art above, but Tanabe’s illustrations are simply incredible.

Five Lovecraft manga adaptations have already been published in the US by Dark Horse Manga, including the 288-page adaptation of The Call of Cthulhu for $13 (was $20) and At the Mountains of Madness, which has a 626-page hardcover Deluxe Edition for $26.65 (was $50). The English translation of The Shadow Out of Time releases December 23 and is available to preorder for $22.

Huge Path of Exile 2 changes coming

I’m not sure if this is bad news or not, but Path of Exile 2 definitely won’t make a full, 1.0 release this year. There was, if you remember, a chance it might. But those plans have been upended by a need to reblanace and sort out some existing areas of the game. In other words, the playerbase isn’t currently thrilled with the game, so developer Grinding Gear Games is addressing that.

The other major hold-up is story content. The Early Access release came with three of six story acts, and the fourth is only just being added to the game, in a huge Third Edict update due 29th August, which will coincide with a free weekend to play the game, by the way. The game can’t launch until the fifth act has been added and tested, so my guess – given the game’s quarterly release schedule – is that we might not see a 1.0 release until June 2026. There, that’s my guesstimate in writing.

I’m OK with that, though. There’s no rush. And watching a video rundown of everything coming in the Third Edict update – and everything changing in it – reminds me how exciting Path of Exile 2 can be. Check out my fuller report compiled after a press briefing, below.

Discontinued Arcade1Up Countercade Randomly Restocked At Amazon

by admin August 24, 2025

Arcade1Up’s Countercades are great for those who have limited space as well as anyone who doesn’t want to drop $500 on a standing home arcade machine. Unfortunately, Arcade1Up seems like it could be done with its series of compact machines. All of the manufacturer’s Countercades are discontinued. Until this month, we hadn’t seen an Arcade1Up Countercade in stock since last holiday season. So we were surprised to find the Arcade1Up Class of ’81 Countercade in stock at Amazon this week.

Arcade1Up Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga Countercade

The Class of ’81 Countercade is themed around Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga, though it also includes Dig Dug. The cabinet launched last October for $150 and then disappeared before Christmas. It had a peculiarly brief lifecycle, and now it has a fittingly strange restock. The Class of ’81 Countercade is sold and shipped by Amazon, but the price is $167.16. It’s only $17 above the original MSRP, and the $150 MSRP was surprisingly low to begin with–and contributed to it selling out so fast.

Snag the Arcade1Up Class of ’81 Countercade while you can; over on StockX, resellers have it listed for $299. The compact machine is one of only about a dozen Arcade1Up cabinets available on Amazon at the moment.

$167.16 | In stock on August 23 (Discontinued)

The Class of ’81 Countercade has a 7-inch, vertically oriented LCD screen surrounded by Ms. Pac-Man artwork on the left and Galaga artwork on the right. Despite the compact form factor, Arcade1Up Countercades have full-size controls. This one has a red ball-top arcade stick, two yellow buttons, a red button, and switches for power and volume. The marquee, side panels, and control deck have Class of ’81 art icons and logo art.

As mentioned, the machine has three arcade classics developed by Namco:

The full dimensions for the machine are 8.7 x 9.4 x 13.11 inches, and it only weighs 6.3 pounds. Though designed to be played on a flat surface like a desk or countertop, it’s light enough to rest on your lap while you’re on the couch. You don’t even need to be near an outlet, because the Class of ’81 Countercade can be powered by the included Micro-USB cable or four AA batteries (not included).

If you hate Micro-USB as much as we do, grab this rechargeable AA battery 4-pack and charger kit for $12.

The previous Pac-Man Countercade retailed for $200. Amazon’s store page makes it seem like $167.16 is MSRP. This sometimes happens when Amazon restocks discontinued products. Amazon sometimes has really random prices for things that have effectively turned into Amazon exclusives.

$600

Arcade1Up just launched a new Ms. Pac-Man machine in its Head-to-Head Arcade Table line. The table has a light-up control deck and joysticks/buttons on each side of the 17-inch LCD screen. The $600 Ms. Pac-Man Arcade Table comes with 12 games:

  • Ms. Pac-Man
  • Pac-Mania
  • Dig Dug
  • Dig Dug II
  • Galaxian
  • Galaga
  • Galaga ’88
  • Mappy
  • Rolling Thunder
  • Tower of Druaga
  • Rompers
  • New Rally X

The Ms. Pac-Man Head-to-Head machine is the only arcade table from Arcade1Up available on Amazon today. Some of Arcade1Up’s traditional standing Deluxe Edition Cabinets are still actively being produced today. Most are priced at $600, though a few such as Pac-Man, NBA Jam, and Mortal Kombat are $500.

Arcade1Up Deluxe Edition Arcade Cabinets (August 2025)

If you’re interested in Namco arcade classics, check out the upcoming Atari 2600+ Pac-Man Edition Console Bundle. This special-edition system plays real Atari 2600 and 7800 cartridges and comes with a yellow wireless joystick and Pac-Man: Double Feature, a cart with a newly developed version of Pac-Man and the original 2600 release. Extra joysticks themed around the Ghost Gang are available to preorder separately, as are three additional Namco classics on cartridge, including Galaga and Dig Dug.
