Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade For PS5 Gets $30 Discount At Amazon

by admin May 21, 2025

Amazon has dropped the price of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade for PS5 to only $40. The PS5 physical edition had been out of print for years, which led to some rather ridiculous prices on the reseller market. Earlier this year, Square Enix finally printed a fresh batch of the sought-after edition that bundles the base game and the Intermission DLC. Multiple retailers sold out of the reprinted copies months ago, while others still regularly sell it for its full $70 list price.

$40 (was $70)

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a gorgeous reboot of the classic 1997 game it’s based on. Set primarily within the early Midgar chapters of Final Fantasy 7, the remake gives Cloud Strife and the rest of the Avalanche crew a massive graphical glow-up as they fight to stop Shinra Inc. from turning the planet’s life essence into a power source. Ghosts from the past threaten Cloud and his friends, and toward the end of the game, there are major changes to the storyline that shake up the status quo.

The Intermission expansion focuses on Yuffie Kisaragi and her partner Sonon Kusakabe as they work to steal a powerful artifact from Shinra. This is a short but fun add-on to the main campaign of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which also saw various technical and graphical improvements added to the game. It’s a fairly linear game overall–with some annoying padding–but if you’re looking to revisit the cyberpunk world of Square Enix’s beloved sci-fantasy game, Final Fantasy 7 Remake won’t disappoint.

It’s also worth noting that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is getting a Nintendo Switch 2 port. Though it’s not available to preorder yet and no release date has been set, we’d expect it to receive a physical edition, too.

You should also check out the official Material Ultimania book focused on the PS5 version of FF7 Remake. Published in November, Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Material Ultimania Plus takes fans behind the scenes for a look at the creation of the heralded RPG. Normally $40, the hardcover edition of the new book is on sale for $25 at Amazon. You can also save $15 on the first Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Material Ultimania book, which drops the price to $25. This 336-page hardcover focuses on FF7 Remake’s original PS4 version.

The second entry in the FF7 Remake trilogy, Rebirth, released last year and greatly expanded on its ideas while adding several open-world environments to explore. If you’re looking to grab it as well, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth for PS5 is on sale for $54 (was $70) at Walmart. Rebirth was ported to PC earlier this year, and Square Enix plans to bring it to Switch 2, too.

Another reprint that Final Fantasy fans might want to pick up is Final Fantasy I-VI Collection, which contains the Pixel Remasters of the first six mainline games. This originally launched with an extremely limited print run, but new copies for PS4 and Nintendo Switch were released in October last year.

The collection includes the Pixel Remaster editions of the first six mainline Final Fantasy games and a sticker sheet of Final Fantasy character sprites. Square Enix remodeled the sprites using the original pixel art as a foundation and series composer Nobuo Uematsu oversaw the work on the rearranged soundtracks.

Final Fantasy I-VI Collection Anniversary Edition Deals:

Fans of Final Fantasy’s pixel art era should also check out FF Dot: The Pixel Art of Final Fantasy. Square Enix’s Ultimania Archive hardcover book focused on the six games in the collection is also a great read. You can get Final Fantasy Ultimania Archive Volume 1 for $26 (was $40) at Amazon.

Dead Island 2, the co-op zombie shooter that’s better than it has any right to be, is free to own right now

by admin May 21, 2025

Though it may no longer get the coverage it used to, the Epic Games Store’s weekly freebies on PC continue. Every week, the store is refreshed with one or two games, available for anyone to claim and own forever.

You’d need a free account for that, of course, but if you’ve ever played Fortnite – or claimed any such freebie in the past – you already have one. Every once in a while, however, the freebie in question is a game worth highlighting. This is one such week.

From now until Thursday, May 22, you can claim a free copy of Dead Island 2, as well as Happy Game. Dead Island 2 is, of course, the higher profile title in this line-up, and it’s really one of those instances where it’s hard to believe a game of such quality is being given away for free.

Dead Island 2 is not a very old game, either, it only came out in April 2023 – so it’s just a little over two-years-old. Some of you reading this likely bought it on a deep discount intending to play it shortly afterwards, but never did.

Given its extensive history of false starts, delays, reboots and all manner of development shenanigans, it’s a miracle that a game called Dead Island 2 exists at all. The fact that it’s actually a solid, fully-fledged zombie action game – and a fun co-op romp to boot – is what took everyone by surprise two years ago.

Watch on YouTube

In her four-star review, our very own Kelsey Raynor said it is “every bit the head-stomping blast that it promised to be,” and pointed out how much it all comes together in co-op. Considering Dead Island 2 is currently free, finding people to play with shouldn’t be a problem.

Even if you don’t particularly care about zombie games, you should at least download it to experience the the dismemberment and flesh/bone tech under the hood. It’s more detailed than you might realise, and makes for very satisfying (and often brutal) zombie-slaying.

You can grab Dead Island 2 on the Epic Games Store right now. Just add it to your cart, check out and you’re done. Various bits of DLC are also on sale, in case you want to expand what’s already there.

Avowed director Carrie Patel has left Obsidian, and joined Oxenfree dev Night School as a game director

by admin May 20, 2025

Whether or not we’ll be getting any more Avowed somewhere along the line is still very much up in the air. But if we do, it seems it won’t be under the leadership of Carrie Patel. In a quick post Patel shared on LinkedIn, the game developer shared that she’s “starting a new position as game director” at the team behind Oxenfree, Night School Studio. Patel mentioned literally zero details outside of what her new role is, so it’s not even clear why she left Obsidian.

This’ll likely have been in the works for a little while, as Night School were specifically looking for a game director in March. As a reminder, Avowed only came out this February. It also paints a slightly confusing picture for Night School themself. Earlier this year it was reported that an unspecified number of workers were being laid off.

Things have been a bit quiet at the developer since they released Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals back in 2023, having not made anything original since then either. They did make a Black Mirror tie-in game called Thronglets, a game featured in the most recent season of the anthology show (in case you forgot, Netflix bought the studio way back in 2021).

Here’s hoping Patel and co. get to make something original again. Netflix’s approach to gaming has been a bit all over the place, ranging from mobile titles, to AAA, but none of it has worked in the way the streamer has found success with film and TV. Their main AAA studio, Team Blue, which included Overwatch, Halo, and God of War talent, was shut down last year, so more than anything I hope the same fate doesn’t await Night School anywhere down the line.

There’s A Demo For To A T, The Next Game From Katamari Damacy Creator, Out Now

by admin May 20, 2025

Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi and his indie studio uvula announced last year that their next game is about a boy who lives life in a t-pose called “to a T.” We recently learned it’s launching on May 28 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and the team has released a demo ahead of the game’s launch.

You can check it out now on PC via Steam (sorry PS5 and Xbox players) to get a quick look at the game, what to expect, and how it plays. Considering it’s coming from the mind behind Katamari Damacy, expect some fun hijinks. Plus, your save data transfers over to the final game.

“A charming, colorful adventure game from the creator of Katamari Damacy and the uvula team about a teen navigating life in a small town with their cute dog companion,” the game’s Steam description reads. “While their body is stuck in a T-pose, they do their best to make the most of it.”

The Steam page also details what to expect of the full game, including an episodic story that unfolds over multiple days, plenty of minigames, a cute town to explore, and unique character customization. You can get a taste of all this in the to a T demo, which is available right now.

Avowed game director Carrie Patel departs Obsidian, joins Netflix’s gaming team

by admin May 20, 2025

Carrie Patel, who served as game director on this year’s acclaimed fantasy action-RPG Avowed, has confirmed her departure from Obsidian Entertainment after nearly 12 years with the studio and announced a new role at Netflix.

Patel, who was very much the face of Avowed throughout its development, shared the news in a brief update on LinkedIn, revealing she’s now working within Netflix’s gaming division, having joined Oxenfree developer Night School Studio as a game director.

She offered no further clue as to what she’ll be working on at Night School in her update, but the Oxenfree and Afterparty studio has an impressive track record, despite its limited output since being acquired by Netflix in 2021. It released Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals in 2023 but nothing else until Black Mirror tie-in Thronglets arrived earlier this year – a release that followed an unspecified number of layoffs at Night School in March.

“One of this year’s most pleasant surprises”, we called Avowed.Watch on YouTube

Netflix’s gaming strategy has taken some dramatic shifts in direction since the streaming service’s first tentative steps back in 2021. After an initial focus on mobile titles, it seemed ready to stride into the world of AAA console gaming in 2023, even hitting up longtime Halo creative lead Joseph Staten, Overwatch executive producer Chacko Sonny, and God of War art director Rafael Grassetti to found a new development team.

However, Netflix quietly closed the studio late last year, and is reportedly now focusing on narrative and transmedia projects, on big mainstream IP, on being a trusted destination for families, and on party games played on TVs using mobile phones as a controller. That does, of course, still leave room for Night Studio – and Patel – to continue making the kind of games it does best.

As for Avowed, prior to Patel’s departure from Obsidian, she suggested it wasn’t a one-and-done effort. “Now that we’ve built this wonderful world, and also built this team strength and muscle memory around the content and gameplay in this world,” she explained, “I’d love to see us do more with it.” Next up for Obsidian, though, is The Outer Worlds 2. It’s due later this year, with a special developer deep dive set to air on 8th June following the Xbox Games Showcase.

Naughty Dog has another new game in the works

by admin May 20, 2025

Appearing on the Press X to Continue podcast, Druckmann said, “There’s another game that’s being worked on at Naughty Dog where I’m [in] more of a producer role and I get to mentor, and watch this other team, and give feedback and be like the executive in the room. I enjoy all those roles, and the fact that I jump from one to the next it makes my job very exciting and always feeling fresh. I’m never bored.”

While Druckmann is credited as Creative Director on both The Last of Us games and Intergalactic, he seems be embracing a more hands-off role with this new project. Having multiple teams develop separate games alongside each other is nothing new for studios as large as Naughty Dog. It was recently working on a The Last of Us multiplayer game before that was cancelled in 2023.

Perhaps Druckmann is overseeing the revival of one of the studio’s dormant franchises — Naughty Dog was known for the Crash Bandicoot and Jax and Dexter series before it pivoted its focus to The Last of Us and Uncharted. Speaking of which… could an Uncharted 5 be on the way?

2016’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End closed out Nathan Drake’s journey as a swashbuckling treasure hunter, though it kept the door open for more adventures through the introduction of his and Elena Fisher’s daughter, Cassie. Kaitlyn Dever portrayed Cassie in Uncharted 4’s epilogue and currently stars as Abby in season 2 of The Last of Us.

A 2023 PS5 ad ignited speculation the Uncharted series was due to return. It featured live-action clips emulating Sony’s robust first-party lineup, and one Uncharted-like clip showed a young woman holding a torch and exploring a cave in search of some sort of artifact. Job listings at that time sought talent for a separate studio “co-developing an exciting new project with Naughty Dog in a beloved franchise” (via VGC), though it’s not confirmed if that “beloved franchise” is Uncharted or something else.

We likely won’t know what Naughty Dog is working on for some time, if it gets formally revealed at all; remember, plenty of games get cancelled before the public even knew they existed.

Stores Tease Switch 2 Stock At Launch If You Missed Pre-Orders

Stores Tease Switch 2 Stock At Launch If You Missed Pre-Orders

by admin May 20, 2025

Image: Nintendo / Kotaku

Switch 2 pre-orders have basically been sold out since they went live last month, but a lucky few might still be able to nab the new Nintendo console in person when it launches on June 5. GameStop, Best Buy, and others have promised limited quantities on site at certain stores when fans go to pick-up their midnight pre-orders.

Nintendo Switch 2 Could Launch With Almost No Reviews

Best Buy was the first to signal that at least some of its Switch 2 inventory at certain stores was being set aside for day-one sales. The electronics retailer promised “limited inventory of systems, games, accessories [and] the chance for a free Nintendo collectible” for those showing up at 12:01 a.m. ET on June 5.

Target appears to be doing something similar. According to multiple reports, certain locations will have anywhere from 30 to 100 Switch 2 consoles available to the first customers to arrive without existing pre-orders. The company hasn’t announced anything official yet, and it’s not clear if its stores will be doing midnight pre-order pickups or customers there will have to wait until regular opening hours.

GameStop, on the other hand, is all-in on the Switch 2 midnight launch party. “Additional Switch 2 units will be available in-store and online while supplies last,” the retailer confirmed last week. The “launch event” begins at 3:00 p.m. local time, with pre-order pickups beginning at midnight. The suggestion is that if you want a shot at one of those on-site consoles, you’ll need to be some of the first in line for that 3:00 p.m. start time. You’ll also get a free Red Bull.

Walmart hasn’t yet confirmed its plans for launch day inventory yet, and Amazon has been completely silent about pre-orders and when it will begin selling the Switch 2, if at all. Nintendo is still slowly going through its own My Nintendo Store pre-order process with invitations going out on a rolling basis. But those units aren’t guaranteed to arrive on launch day and some might not arrive until days or weeks later.

Basically, what I’m saying is that if you failed to lock down a pre-order in the initial frenzy last month, there’s still hope. Now, does that mean showing up on the day of or camping out for a week? Knowing Nintendo fans, and with the Switch 2 being the biggest console launch in the company’s history, I wouldn’t put anything past them.

Jurassic Park Limited-Edition 4K Steelbook Box Sets Release June 17

by admin May 20, 2025

Jurassic Park/World fans can add collectible 4K editions of all six movies to their personal library in a few weeks. The original Jurassic Park Trilogy and Jurassic World Trilogy are getting limited-edition 4K Blu-ray collections on June 17. The box sets are releasing just in time for a franchise rewatch before Jurassic World Rebirth hits theaters on July 2. The Jurassic Park Trilogy Limited Edition Steelbook and Jurassic World Trilogy Limited Edition Steelbook are up for preorder for $60 each at Amazon and Walmart.

If you’re interested in picking up either collection, you may want to preorder soon. Shortly after preorders opened in April, Amazon raised the price of both sets to $94. Those (ridiculously) high prices remained in place for a few weeks before returning to the more reasonable $60 price point within the past week. You won’t be charged for your preorder at either retailer until it ships, and you’ll automatically get any additional discounts offered between the time you order and release.

$60 (was $65) | Releases June 17

The Limited Edition Steelbook box set of the original trilogy includes 4K Blu-ray and digital versions of Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and Jurassic Park 3. Dolby Vision and HDR10 are also supported for more vibrant images, while Dolby Atmos gets you enhanced audio. Along with a chance to enjoy the trilogy in 4K, you’ll get the following bonus content:

Jurassic Park Trilogy Special Features

  • Return to Jurassic Park: A six-part documentary series on the making of the trilogy
  • Archival featurettes
  • Behind-the-scenes footage
  • Deleted scenes
  • Theatrical trailers
  • Feature commentary

$60 (was $65) | Releases June 17

Relive the Jurassic World Trilogy with this Limited Edition Steelbook collection. It features 4K Blu-ray and digital formats for Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Jurassic World Dominion. Dolby Vision and HDR10 are also supported, as is Dolby Atmos for enhanced audio. Like the Jurassic Park Trilogy, it’s packed with hours of bonus content:

Jurassic World Trilogy Special Features

  • In-depth featurettes
  • Interviews with the cast and crew
  • Behind-the-scenes footage
  • Deleted scenes

While these two Limited Edition Steelbooks are mighty tempting, they’re not the only way to get your hands on the 4K movies. The Jurassic World Ultimate Collection (4K) is a more frugal option–though you won’t get any steelbooks, it offers 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray editions of each film. Typically $100, it’s on sale for the impressive price of $53. Better yet, this collection is available now, so you can catch up on all the action before Jurassic World Rebirth hits theaters in July.

Looking for another fun way to bring Jurassic Park into your home? Check out the long list of Jurassic Park Lego sets. These run the gamut from tiny playsets for young fans to premium display pieces that would look great in most home theaters.

Fortnite’s AI Darth Vader hasn’t just created problems for Epic by being Jedi mind-tricked into saying bad words, it’s led SAG-AFTRA to file an unfair labour practice charge

by admin May 20, 2025

Late last week, Fortnite got a Darth Vader chatbot you can squad up with and have stilted AI-powered conversations that use James Earl Jones’ actual voice. It’s not just said a bunch of stuff it wasn’t supposed to – it’s now led the SAG-AFTRA union to file unfair labour practice charge.

If you weren’t around last week, Epic quickly had to issue a patch to the bot – which has been made with the approval of deceased Vader VA Jones’ family – not long after it was released into the wild, because players had managed to get it to say stuff it shouldn’t. You know, swears, slurs, and chatter about breasts.

Fast forward to last night, when voice acting union SAG-AFTRA issued a statement on the AI Vader bot, challenging Epic on it being a thing and revealing that it’s filed an unfair labour practice charge with the US National Labour Relations Board.

“We celebrate the right of our members and their estates to control the use of their digital replicas and welcome the use of new technologies to allow new generations to share in the enjoyment of those legacies and renowned roles,” the union wrote, acknowledging Jones’ estate having approved the bot, “However, we must protect our right to bargain terms and conditions around uses of voice that replace the work of our members, including those who previously did the work of matching Darth Vader’s iconic rhythm and tone in video games.

“Fortnite’s signatory company, Llama Productions, chose to replace the work of human performers with A.I. technology. Unfortunately, they did so without providing any notice of their intent to do this and without bargaining with us over appropriate terms. As such, we have filed an unfair labor practice charge with the NLRB against Llama Productions.”

VG247 has reached out to Epic for comment.

So, we’ll have to see what, if anything comes of the union challenging Llama Productions over allegedly not providing it notice of its plans to use AI to create AI Vader. It’s yet another chapter in the union and many voice actors’ efforts to secure protections against the use of AI to mimic voices, which it’s been argued presents an existential threat to their profession.

After all, as the union argues here, getting another actor to deliver voice lines for Fortnite Vader that sound like Jones would have been an alternative option to using AI her. Though as I’ve said, Epic and Llama did secure the right permission from those representing the AI-emulated actor’s interests.

How do you feel about AI Vader? Let us know below.

Video game voice actor union takes Fortnite’s Darth Vader chatbot to court

by admin May 20, 2025

Video game voice-actor union SAG-AFTRA are launching a legal case against the presence of generated AI voice-acting for Darth Vader in Epic’s battle royale Fortnite. They’re accusing the company’s subsidiary Llama Productions of using AI to “replace the work of human performers” – or at least, of replacing human performers without first haggling out terms with the union.

The AI-voiced Vader character was added to Fortnite last week, in collaboration with the family of James Earl Jones, the original voice of Darth. Track down and recruit him and you’ll be able to take turns generatively bantering with Fauxnakin. Needless to say, the addition has proven a hit among the furiously masticating hamsters of social media. Also needless to say, players have swiftly worked out how to bait DAIrth VAIder into dropping F-bombs
and slurs, though at the time of publication, Epic appear to have addressed this in a patch.

Now, the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists have filed an unfair labour practice charge against SkAIwalker Senior with the US National Labor Relations Board.

“We celebrate the right of our members and their estates to control the use of their digital replicas and welcome the use of new technologies to allow new generations to share in the enjoyment of those legacies and renowned roles,” the union wrote in a statement. “However, we must protect our right to bargain terms and conditions around uses of voice that replace the work of our members, including those who previously did the work of matching Darth Vader’s iconic rhythm and tone in video games.

“Fortnite’s signatory company, Llama Productions, chose to replace the work of human performers with A.I. technology,” it continues. “Unfortunately, they did so without providing any notice of their intent to do this and without bargaining with us over appropriate terms. As such, we have filed an unfair labor practice charge with the NLRB against Llama Productions.”

The court document itself claims that Llama Productions have “failed and refused to bargain in good faith with the union by making unilateral changes to terms and conditions of employment, without providing notice to the union or the opportunity to bargain, by utilizing AI-generated voices to replace bargaining unit work on the Interactive Program Fortnite”.

SAG-AFTRA – who represent a spectrum of workers across the media and entertainment sphere – have often gone to bat with the video games industry over the usage of human voice-acting to “train” bots, and the potential replacing of voice-acting in games with genAI. Following a lengthy negotiation over AI protections with the likes of GTA 6 publisher Take-Two and Call Of Duty household Activision, they called a strike last July in the name of “fair compensation and the right of informed consent”. The strike continues. Some video game voice and performance artists have, however, criticised SAG-AFTRA for striking deals with individual genAI companies.

All this forms part of the wider, on-going debate about the ethics and legalities of generative AI – our Electric Nightmares essay series remains a good primer. While voice actors contest the loss of work, other organisations are picking fights with the genAI biz over copyright infringement.

According to an Epic Games blog post, the Darth Vader chatbot in Fortnite makes use of two AI models – Google’s Gemini and ElevenLabs’ Flash. Gemini was recently hit by a $271 million fine over copyright breach, with France’s competition watchdog accusing the search engine company of “training” the bot with material from publishers and news agencies without notifying them. Google have pledged not to contest these facts as part of settlement proceedings.
