Cyberpunk 2077 anime Edgerunners getting physical Blu-ray release

by admin September 1, 2025

The first season of Cyberpunk 2077’s acclaimed anime spin-off Edgerunners is getting a physical Blu-ray release.

As shared by Crunchyroll, the anime box set is available to pre-order now, with an expected shipping date of 23rd October. It will retail in the US for $123.98 (I have not been able to find a UK specific release, though, with the current retail listing being region A).

For your money, you will receive (obviously) the entire first series, which is 10 episodes, across three discs. It also includes a storyboard booklet from director Hiroyuki Imaishi, a “special” booklet, three animation cel sheets and a two year anniversary poster (see image below).

“In a world of neon and the cybernetically enhanced, can David climb up from a lowly bourgie to become an edgerunning legend?” asks the official blurb. Eurogamer’s former editor-in-chief Wesley Yin-Poole called the Cyberpunk anime “fantastic” when he watched it back in 2022.

If this all sounds like your thing, you can find the Crunchyroll sales page here.

A second season of Edgerunners is now in the works at Netflix. It will comprise 10 episodes, and feature a standalone story within the world of Cyberpunk 2077. Earlier this year, Edgerunners’ writer and producer said he doesn’t want to write a jolly story for the series, because “when people are sad”, it makes him “a bit happy”.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.

The Stunning Lord Of The Rings Collector’s Box Set Illustrated By Alan Lee Is 60% Off

by admin September 1, 2025

A beautiful box set of the best edition of The Lord of the Rings–the Centenary Edition illustrated by Alan Lee–is on sale for a fantastic price at Amazon and Walmart. Published last October with a lofty $325 price tag, The Lord of the Rings Deluxe Illustrated Box Set is discounted to only $135.37. The current price is roughly $1 higher than the all-time low ($134.25). In 2025, the price has generally hovered in the $180-$200 range, and the last discount as good as this one didn’t stick around for long.

The Deluxe Illustrated Box Set is is absolutely stunning. As someone who personally owns this edition of The Lord of the Rings–sadly, I paid considerably more for my copy–I think all big Tolkien fans would love to have this in their collection. So if you have a Lord of the Rings fan on your shopping list, the Deluxe Illustrated Box Set would make for a wonderful gift this holiday.

The Lord of the Rings Deluxe Illustrated Box Set (William Morrow, 2024)

You can read all about The Lord of the Rings Deluxe Illustrated Box Set below. The store pages at Amazon and Walmart only include one image of the books inside the display case, so I also included some of the gorgeous promotional images from Barnes & Noble’s store page.

We also included a look at the upcoming 2025 edition of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Illustrated Box Set, which is also illustrated by Alan Lee, and a list of deals on other collectible editions of The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and Tolkien’s other Middle-earth tales. There are some terrific deals, including a limited-time price cut on the brand-new Great Tales of Middle-earth Box Set.

$135.37 (was $325)

The Lord of the Rings Deluxe Illustrated Box Set is a revamped version of the gorgeous Centenary Edition from 1992. Across the three hardcover volumes–The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King–there are more than 50 new pencil sketches and full-color paintings by beloved Lord of the Rings artist Alan Lee. All told, the box set has 1,332 pages, which makes it longer than most, if not all, editions of LOTR currently in print.

The Lord of the Rings Deluxe Illustrated Box Set (William Morrow, 2024)

The top and bottom page edges are sprayed dark blue, while the side edges were designed to resemble billowing smoke from Mount Doom’s eruption. Lee created new artwork for the covers, too. Each cover has a framed rectangular drawing in the center. The illustrations are inset on gray cloth board and surrounded by an elegant, silver foil-stamped border. Each book is quarterbound in blue leather, and the pages are sewn into the spine. You can mark your spot using the attached ribbon bookmark.

The silver-foil text along the spine and on the covers was stamped onto each book. The custom display case was constructed from cloth board and features stamped circular emblems designed by Lee. The case has rounded front edges to make it easy to remove each book. With all three books removed, you can peer inside the fully illustrated interior of the case. Lee’s depiction of Mount Doom’s eruption covers every surface inside the lovingly crafted slipcase.

The Lord of the Rings Deluxe Illustrated Box Set (William Morrow, 2024)

Inside each book, you’ll find a large art card that can be removed and displayed separately. Along with three art cards, you get a pair of foldout maps of Middle-earth drawn by Christopher Tolkien, the author’s literary executor who edited, expanded, and organized many supplementary writings about Middle-earth, including The Silmarillion and Tolkien’s Legendarium, which became the foundation for the massive 12-part series now known as The History of Middle-earth.

2025 Edition: $139.50 (was $150) | 2020 Edition: $72-$126

William Morrow is publishing another Lord of the Rings box set illustrated by Alan Lee on October 14. It’s not nearly as fancy as the three-volume Deluxe Illustrated Box Set, but it comes with a notable addition: The Hobbit, also illustrated by Lee. This four-volume hardcover set features the Centenary Edition of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit’s 60th Anniversary Edition.

The dust jackets and display box have fully illustrated artwork by Alan Lee. Overall, the exterior design aesthetic is similar to the 2024 History of Middle-earth Box Sets and the recently released pair of box sets: Tolkien Myths and Legends and The Great Tales of Middle-earth.

You’d miss out on the exclusive paintings and sketches from the Deluxe Illustrated Box Set as well as premium features like quarterbound blue leather, cloth board covers, the custom case, etc. In return, you’d get The Hobbit with Lee’s wonderful illustrations.

Due to the deal on the Deluxe Illustrated Box Set, you’d actually pay more for this four-volume, $150 collection–unless you bought the 2020 edition.

It’s all a bit confusing, but this box set was originally published in the UK in 2020. The upcoming US edition appears to be the same as the old one. The 2020 version is available to buy from resellers at Amazon and Walmart for far less than $139.50. Strangely enough, Amazon actually has it in stock, too–sold and shipped by Amazon–for $126.67.

You can buy the 2020 set from a third-party seller for $89 at Amazon. Notably, your order will still be shipped directly from Amazon. You can buy the set from a reseller at Walmart for $72, and your order will be shipped from Walmart’s warehouse.

The History of Middle-earth Box Sets (William Morrow, 2024)

William Morrow’s ongoing series of hardcover box sets with decorative slipcases and reversible dust jackets kicked off last year with the publication of four box sets compiling The History of Middle-earth. Although originally a 12-volume series, the new box set series has 15 books and starts with The Silmarillion, which isn’t technically part of The History of Middle-earth–though you should read it before diving into the wide-ranging collection that further demonstrates Tolkien’s mastery of building fantasy worlds. All four History of Middle-earth Box Sets are on sale for huge discounts. Alternatively, the three-volume, 5,440-page Complete History of Middle-earth is on sale for $106 (was $250). All five box sets below include hardcover books and slipcases.

Tolkien Myths and Legends & The Great Tales of Middle-earth (William Morrow, 2025)

The most recent Tolkien box set edition is a new hardcover collection of The Great Tales of Middle-earth, which are considered the author’s final three novels and were published posthumously from 2007-2018. Released on August 19, this new box set is already on sale for 33% off, dropping the price to $84. It’s worth noting there’s a 2018 hardcover box set edition of The Great Tales of Middle-earth for $50 (was $100). You can also save $55 on Tolkien Myths and Legends, which includes two myths written by Tolkien as well as his personal translations of four epic poems, including Beowulf. The three box sets below include hardcover books and decorative slipcases.

More Tolkien Collector’s Editions & Hardcover Box Sets

Unfinished Tales Collector’s Edition / The Lord of the Rings Collector’s Edition /

We rounded some of the other notable hardcover box sets and collectible editions of Tolkien’s work below. This includes the beautiful Unfinished Tales: 40th Anniversary Collector’s Edition, a slipcased, limited edition of The Silmarillion, and Tolkien’s Collected Poems, which were published in a three-volume set last fall.

For a cheaper Lord of the Rings hardcover box set, we’d recommend the 2024 Collector’s Editions and the vintage set with cover art from the 1988 editions. If you buy the 2024 box set, you can also get matching editions of The Silmarillion and The Hobbit separately.

Tolkien Illustrated Edition Series

Tolkien Illustrated Editions

The Tolkien Illustrated Editions of LOTR, The Hobbit, and The Silmarillion are probably the most popular hardcover editions of Tolkien’s three best-known works. These are unique because they are illustrated by the author himself. Each one has premium features like sprayed edges with Elvish, Dwarvish, or Tengwar script, gold- and silver-foil trim, stamped cover art, ribbon bookmarks, and two fold-out maps. The Deluxe Special Editions have quarterbound leather spines and cloth board cases. These editions also come with custom slipcases and additional collectible inserts.

If you’re interested in owning collectible editions of Peter Jackson’s adaptation of The Lord of the Rings, all three movies will soon be available as standalone 4K Blu-rays with steelbook cases. The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers launched earlier this year, and The Return of the King’s Steelbook Edition is up for preorder for $30 (was $35) at Walmart.

Elsewhere in Silksong news, it has not, in fact, taken so long to release due to being stuck in development hell. Rather, hype skyrocketed sales of the original game to give Team Cherry financial freedom.

Last month, our Dom braved the Gamescom queues to go hands-on with Silksong, and came away impressed with its high challenge and how Hornet’s movement differs from the original game’s Knight. You can check out their thoughts in Eurogamer’s Silksong preview here.

High On Life’s Switch 2 Version Has Free Upgrade Path And Big Improvements

by admin September 1, 2025

High on Life launched on the original Nintendo Switch earlier this year, but now the game is getting a bit of a console upgrade. As announced by developer Squanch Games, High on Life is now available on the Nintendo Switch 2, and it comes with several small but welcome improvements. That isn’t even mentioning the very agreeable upgrade path.

First of all, you can use the Joy-Con 2’s mouse controls if you like playing your first-person shooters as if you’re on a PC–a nifty use of the feature we’ll surely see in other FPS releases further down the line. There’s also improved VFX and texture quality, a higher frame rate, and an enhanced resolution while docked that brings the game up to 1080p and 30 frames per second.

Now Playing: High On Life Video Review

The good news for those of you who already own the game on the original Switch and have also picked up a Switch 2 is that you can upgrade the game completely for free. Or, if you’re buying it for the first time, it’ll set you back $40 digitally.

High on Life originally launched back in 2022 to a middling reception, generally landing on the positive end more than negative. GameSpot’s High on Life review didn’t come away from it massively wowed, but did find it funny at least.

A sequel was also announced earlier this year, and is currently set to be released February 13, 2026. It will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, but there’s currently no word on a Switch or Switch 2 release.

Art of Vengeance is officially verified for Steam Deck, and it runs and looks beautiful on Valve’s handheld.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance Editions

  • Digital Deluxe Edition — $35.19 ($40)
    • Sega Villains Stage DLC (Coming Early 2026)

Featuring bold hand-drawn graphics and taking deep inspiration from The Revenge of Shinobi and Shinobi 3, it’s a fresh blend of nostalgia and new mechanics.

The long-awaited revival earned a 9/10 in GameSpot’s Shinobi: Art of Vengeance review thanks to its superb level design, gorgeous art style, and top-notch combat system.

Xbox Is Making It Easier To Pick Back Up Games On Console, PC, And More

by admin September 1, 2025

Microsoft wants to ensure it’s easier to return to recently played games no matter what device you pick up. Your Xbox play history should now start syncing across consoles, PC, and eventually the ROG Xbox Ally, thanks to an August update rolling out now.

In other words, if you start playing Gears of War: Reloaded on your Xbox Series X|S, but then decide to move to your PC another day, the cover-based shooter should be ready to roll from your play history. Cloud-enabled games should also start appearing in your recently played list, according to Microsoft. That includes if you checked out a Game Pass title via the cloud or actually own it, such as an original Xbox game like The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

Now Playing: ROG Xbox Ally World Premiere Reveal Trailer | Xbox Games Showcase

This cross-device play history will obviously be a boon for the ROG Xbox Ally handhelds when they launch this October. Picking up where you left off in a game on the portable device while on the go is one of the system’s main selling points, though that title will have to be compatible with the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. While still in preview, Xbox is making it easier to track your owned games, too.

One thing Microsoft won’t reveal quite yet is the cost of the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. There has been speculation–and Best Buy listings at one point–that the handheld devices could cost $550 and $900, respectively. For more, check out GameSpot’s ROG Xbox Ally X impressions.

Now Playing: Pokemon Legends Z-A – The Biggest Pokemon Shake Up In Decades!

The announcement was made shortly after the reveal of a brand-new Mega Evolution for Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Fittingly, the Pokemon getting the power-up in the game is Hawlucha, a Luchador-themed Pokemon with unique high-flying moves in its arsenal. Hawlucha’s Mega Evolution doubles down on its wrestling inspiration, giving it ornate plumage and making it look ready for a main event match at the next Wrestlemania.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A launches on October 16 for Switch 2 and Switch, and the previous Mega Evolution reveal was done in a manner that makes a strong case for a Pokemon horror movie. The game also changes up the usual turn-based gameplay format by introducing real-time battles and free-for-all showdowns that up to four players can participate in.

Blizzard’s Diablo Developers Vote To Unionize After Mass Layoffs

by admin September 1, 2025

This week, the Communications Workers of America (CWA) announced that more than 450 developers of Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo team have voted to unionize under the CWA. The successful outcome of this effort means workers will now be represented by CWA Local 9510 in Irvine, California; Local 1118 in Albany, New York; and Local 6215 in Austin, Texas.

The newly formed union will represent a wide range of jobs across Blizzard, including designers, engineers, artists, and support staff. Microsoft, Blizzard’s parent company, has officially recognized the union. This unionization campaign is not an isolated event at Blizzard, as earlier this month, the studio’s Story and Franchise Development team also voted to unionize.

“With every subsequent round of mass layoffs, I’ve witnessed the dread in my coworkers grow stronger because it feels like no amount of hard work is enough to protect us,” said Diablo producer and organizing committee member Kelly Yeo (via Game Developer). “This is just the first step for us joining a movement spreading across an industry that is tired of living in fear.”

Workers also shared personal experiences that illustrate the atmosphere of uncertainty and instability driving the union effort. “The day after the third round of mass layoffs, I walked into the office, and when I tried to open the door to the cafeteria, my badge was denied. For a moment, I wondered if getting breakfast was how I’d find out I was part of that round,” added designer Ryan Littleton. While Littleton’s situation ended up being just a technical glitch, it doesn’t help the overall cloud of uncertainty. “None of us should have to live with that constant worry that we might be let go at the drop of a hat.”

Senior software engineer Nav Bhatti framed the initiative as a response to long-standing industry challenges, saying this sort of stress puts people in a fight-or-flight mode, but the union helps them to be able to “stand our ground in the industry.”

CWA Local 9510 president Jason Justice pointed to California’s growing role in labor movements. “What’s happening here is part of a much larger story about turning the tide in an industry that has long overlooked its labor,” he said. “Entertainment workers across film, television, music, and now video games are standing together to have a seat at the table.”

Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion Limited Edition Preorders Restocked Ahead Of Friday’s Launch

by admin September 1, 2025

Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion’s Limited Edition is back in stock at Amazon and Walmart ahead of the mecha-action game’s September 5 launch on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Titanic Scion’s Limited Edition had been sold out for most of the summer at all major retailers. The $100 edition is available for all three console platforms and comes with numerous collectibles for only $30 more than the price of the standard edition.

Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion Limited Edition

Developed and published by Marvelous, Titanic Scion’s Switch 2 physical edition includes the full game on the card, just like the other Switch 2 games the studio has made for Nintendo’s new console: Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, which was a Switch 2 launch game, and Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar, which released last week. Titanic Scion’s listed eShop file size is 22.9GB, so opting for the physical edition lets you avoid using 10% of the Switch 2’s 256GB onboard storage on the new mecha-action title. Unlike Guardians of Azuma and Grand Bazaar, Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion will not be available on original Switch hardware.

$70 | Releases September 5

Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion’s standard physical edition is available to preorder for $70 on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X. The standard edition is in stock at Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and GameStop.

You’ll also find three different digital versions on Steam, the Xbox Store, the PlayStation Store, and the Switch eShop starting at $70. Digital preorders come with a few in-game items: Bahamut Arsenal Skin, Beguiling Suit, and Victorious Gleam Laser Sword.

$100 | Releases September 5

As mentioned, Titanic Scion’s Limited Edition had been sold out for most of the summer at all major retailers. Now, with less than a week remaining until launch, the $100 edition is back in stock for Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X at several retailers. the Limited Edition is available on all three console platforms at Amazon, and Walmart has it in stock for PS5 and Switch 2.

The Limited Edition is packaged in an oversized display box with alternate artwork. Inside the box, you’ll find a standard boxed copy of Titanic Scion for the console platform of your choice and numerous collectibles, including an art book, acrylic diorama, and the official soundtrack on CD. Here’s the full list of contents included with the Limited Edition:

  • Physical game in standard case
  • Oversized display box with unique art
  • 3D Acrylic Diorama
  • Full-color Art Book
  • Original Soundtrack on CD
  • 3 Flight Tag Keychains
  • 3 Emblem Patches

That’s a lot of extra content for only $30, so it’s not surprising that the Limited Edition has been difficult to find in stock. Additionally, it’s worth keeping in mind that Guardians of Azuma’s Earth Dancer Limited Edition also dealt with stock shortages and is no longer carried by most retailers–Amazon does have the Earth Dancer Edition in stock at the moment, though.

Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion takes place in a world where people born with unique abilities rebel against the rest of humanity. Eventually, they take control of an array of orbital defense satellites and rule the planet below with an iron fist. What follows is a series of intense mech battles as the warring factions fight for control of the world. You can customize your Arsenal (mech) and explore Titanic Scion’s open world solo or alongside up to two friends in the online cooperative mode.

Titanic Scion is the sequel to the 2019 game Daemon X Machina, which was exclusive to Nintendo Switch at launch. Marvelous ported the first game to PC in 2020, but Titanic Scion marks the franchise’s debut on PS5 and Xbox. GameSpot awarded the original 7/10 in our Daemon X Machina review for its engaging mech combat and surprisingly deep lore.

Returning players will have an advantage when it comes to lore and understanding some references, but Marvelous says the sequel was made for newcomers, too. The story takes place 300 years after the conclusion of the first game, so all of the characters and plot points will be new to all players.

That said, if you want to play the original, be prepared to pay more than you’d probably expect. The digital edition still sells for $60 on the Switch eShop, and the physical edition has been out of print for years. Walmart has Daemon X Machina on Switch for $66 via a reputable third-party seller, and PC players can get a Steam key for $42.49 (was $50) at Fanatical with promo code FANATICAL15.

Marvelous Inc.’s Nintendo Switch 2 Games: Full file on Game Card

Marvelous Inc. Nintendo Switch 2 games

Titanic Scion arrives just one week after Marvelous launched Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar, the latest entry in the farming life sim series formerly known as Harvest Moon. Grand Bazaar also has two editions for Switch 2: a $60 standard edition and $80 Premium Edition. Guardians of Azuma, meanwhile, is on sale for $60 (was $70) at Amazon. The Earth Dancer Limited Edition only launched on Switch, but you can upgrade physical and digital versions of the new Rune Factory game to Switch 2 for $10 on the eShop.

As mentioned, all three of Marvelous’ Switch 2 games–Titanic Scion (22.9GB), Guardians of Azuma (18GB), Grand Bazaar (7.7GB)–include the full file on the game card. We included the digital edition file sizes in parentheses next to the game titles to roughly note how many gigabytes you’re saving versus buying digital editions.

Another notable third-party game that opted for the truly physical edition route is Cyberpunk 2077. And since the digital edition of CD Projekt Red’s impressive open-world adventure eats up 60GB, the physical edition is even more beneficial from a storage perspective.

Unfortunately, most third-party Switch 2 games available now and on the horizon utilize the Switch 2’s Game-Key Cards, which are license keys in cartridge format. Game-Key Cards grant you the ability to download the game from the eShop. Essentially, you’re buying a digital game, but the card must remain in the system to play it. To be fair, this allows you to sell the Game-Key Card, which you can’t do with eShop games, but the impact on storage space is the same whether you use a Game-Key Card or buy directly from the eShop.

Lost Soul Aside Dev Promises Fixes Are On The Way For Glitchy Cutscenes And More

by admin September 1, 2025

After an 11-year journey and a transition from solo development to an entire team, Lost Soul Aside is finally here and it’s … not doing so hot. It only launched today and it’s already sitting at a Mixed rating on Steam, with even positive reviews having their fair share of complaints. These include poor audio mixing and English dubbing, a bland story, and an odd checkpoint system, but also some annoying performance issues in certain places. While the official Lost Soul Aside X account hasn’t addressed all of those complaints, it did share a statement on the matter.

As it stands, some cutscenes in the prologue are pre-rendered as 4K, 30-frames-per-second videos, which in some cases are causing stuttering during playback. The Lost Soul Team apologised for this, noting that it is “actively working on optimizations, and future updates will address this to deliver a smoother gameplay experience. Thank you for your continued support and patience!”

Now Playing: Lost Soul Aside – Gameplay Trailer

Lost Soul Aside initially started development as a project inspired by Final Fantasy–namely Final Fantasy 15–from solo developer Yang Bing, but in 2017 he formed Ultizero Games with support from Sony. The action game was delayed multiple times over the years, and was even supposed to launch in May of this year, before eventually arriving today.

A demo for the game is also available to try out on both PS5 and PC, offering up a portion of the story, a combat arena to try out some moves in, and a boss-rush mode.

Lost Soul Aside is out now on PS5 and PC.
