Star Trucker’s anniversary update adds wheel and joystick support to the space lorry sim, plus speed cameras

by admin September 5, 2025

Star Trucker, Raw Fury’s answer to what Euro Truck Simulator might look like in the year 3000, is now a year old, and has celebrated that fact with an update that finally lets you whip out your wheel and pedals.

Ever since I gave it a go with a controller prior to letting my Game Pass subscription crumble into dust, this is a day I’ve yearned for. After all, what good are truck sims, be they Euro, American or something more Snowrunnery, if you’re not operating the controls of your great metal haulage beast by flicking flappy gearbox paddles, or sawing away at a circle clearly designed for something a bit sportier?

That’s what this anniversary update for the interstellar hauler delivers, with wheels like the Thrustmaster T128 and flight sticks like VKB’s Gladiator NXT EVO being early additions to the devs’ handy tracking sheet of tested peripherals. There’s also a guide and FAQ rundown from Raw Fury to help folks get their hardware up, running, and fully bound to all the inputs space trucking requires.

Gear recognised by the game should set itself up with default bindings automatically, but I usually find creating my own basic set of essential buttons not that time-consuming, as long as the game wants to acknowledge your wheel exists. Just remember to bind a pause button, and stick the handbrake somewhere your finger can easily hold it when you want to see if your rig can finish a delivery with a 10/10 skid.

As a counterweight to all the wheel and pedal lorry mischief I planned the minute I clocked this update, it also comes with new speed checks. Yep, cameras, fines, the works. These camera checkpoints along the trails of the galaxy will even show you what speed you’re doing as you pass them, though the notes don’t mention if you get shown a little smiley face for not blasting through a Jupiter school zone at 120mph. You can also disable these checks via the settings, if the threat of having to attend a speeding course with the crowd from the Mos Eisley cantina is just too much.

Aside from that, there are a couple of updates to trailers, and a couple of optional truck goodies to commemorate the game’s first birthday. The latter includes a hologrammatic image of a cake you can display in your cab. Just remember to eat plenty before your next long haul.

If you’ve not given Star Trucker a go, our Nic dubbed it “a game that’s much more about the ‘trucker’ of it all than the stars, but the trucker of it all really does shine” in his review, writing:

When you exit the airlock to patch up hull breaches, little white spanner icons mark the offending damage. The symbol that marks the airlock to return to your truck is a home. I noticed it early, and then I kept noticing it. The more I did, the more perfect it felt.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to oversteer that home into an asteroid belt.

Batman Arkham Shadow VR sequel in the works, actor confirms

by admin September 5, 2025

Last year, Camouflaj and Oculus Studios released a Batman-flavoured VR release in the form of Arkham Shadows, and it looks like the teams are taking another bite of the apple.

During a recent interview with Culture Combine, which was spotted by UploadVR, Commissioner Gordon’s actor confirmed a sequel is in the works.

Actor Mark Rolston was chatting about his career, and the difference between approaching games such as Blade Runner and Spider-Man 2.

“In the Blade Runner game, I was a voiceover, but for Spider-Man, I do complete motion capture, voice, and everything,” the actor told the publication, before slipping this little nugget of information into the conversation:

“Same thing with the Batman Arkham Shadow VR game. We’re about to start another one of those. I play Commissioner Gordon.”

So, there you have it!

Our Ian rather enjoyed Batman Arkham Shadow in its release last year. “Batman Arkham Shadow can feel rough around the edges at times, but it’s still a more than worthy entry to the Arkham series, and an essential Quest 3 experience,” he wrote in Eurogamer’s four star Batman Arkham Shadow review.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.

WB Sues Midjourney Over Turning Batman And Joker AI Slop

by admin September 5, 2025

Media giant Warner Bros. is suing Midjourney, claiming in a newly filed lawsuit that the AI company offers a service that creates “infringing images and videos” without WB’s “consent or authorization” and stating that Midjourney “thinks it is above the law.”

The new WB lawsuit against Midjourney was filed on September 4 in a U.S. District Court in Los Angeles. In it, WB lawyers argue that Midjourney did nothing to protect rights holders from users being able to create images and videos using copyright-protected characters like Superman, Wonder Woman, and Scooby-Doo. WB’s legal team called the choice not to stop people from creating all of this infringing slop a “calculated and profit-driven decision.” It also claims that Midjourney is fully aware of the “breathtaking scope of its piracy and copyright infringement.”

In the lengthy filing, WB lawyers provide multiple examples of Midjourney’s AI generating near-carbon-copy recreations of famous WB-owned characters like The Joker and Batman. It also includes some examples of users sharing generated images of characters like Rick and Morty and R2-D2 in Midjourney’s own Discord server.

“Midjourney thinks it is above the law,” explained WB in its lawsuit. “It sells a commercial subscription service, powered by artificial intelligence technology, that was developed using illegal copies of Warner Bros. Discovery’s copyrighted works. The Service lets subscribers pick iconic Warner Bros. Discovery copyrighted characters and then reproduces, publicly displays and performs, and makes available for download (i.e., distributes) infringing images and videos, and unauthorized derivatives, with every imaginable scene featuring those characters. Without any consent or authorization by Warner Bros. Discovery, Midjourney brazenly dispenses Warner Bros. Discovery’s intellectual property as if it were its own.”

Warner Bros. isn’t the first big entertainment company to go after Midjourney.  Earlier this year, Disney and NBCUniversal teamed up to file a massive lawsuit against the AI company. Disney and NBC had similar complaints and evidence as that which WB has compiled. In response to Disney suing the company, Midjourney pushed back and claimed training its AI on copyrighted works was “fair use” and added that “copyright law does not confer absolute control over the use of copyrighted works.” The AI company also said that Disney and other media giants want to have it “both ways,” using AI and then suing AI companies. According to Midjourney’s lawyers, the company has many accounts tied to NBC and Disney email addresses, suggesting both media giants are using Midjourney’s services themselves.

As AI-generated content becomes easier to produce and cheaper to create, these types of lawsuits are likely to become more common, with rights-holders and artists attempting to fight back against the growing flood of AI-generated slop.

Here’s The Street Fighter Release Date, Cast List, And First Plot Details

by admin September 4, 2025

In 1994, Capcom’s Street Fighter franchise hit the big screen with Jean-Claude Van Damme in the lead as Guile. While the team behind that film made the curious choice to emulate G.I. Joe instead of the arcade games it was based upon, the new Street Fighter movie is going back to the source material and taking fans back to the ’90s.

Legendary Entertainment has shared the first details about the Street Fighter reboot, which will be set in 1993. Unlike the previous live-action Street Fighter movies–including Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li–the focus will fall on Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo), two fighters who have become estranged from each other. However, Chun-Li (Callina Liang) reunites the pair when she recruits them for the World Warrior Tournament. The synopsis also teases the “deadly conspiracy” behind the battle royale, which will almost certainly lead back to the franchise’s primary villain, M. Bison.

As part of the announcement, Legendary revealed that Street Fighter will hit theaters on October 16, 2026. It’s the first film in a three-year distribution deal with Paramount Pictures. But it doesn’t affect Legendary’s Minecraft and Godzilla x Kong sequels, both of which remain with Warner Bros. under the terms of previously signed deals.

Legendary also shared the complete cast for Street Fighter, including two current WWE wrestlers: Cody Rhodes and Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i, who will portray Guile and Akuma, respectively. The rest of the performers are listed below.

  • David Dastmalchian as M. Bison
  • Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki
  • Eric André as Don Sauvage
  • Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim
  • Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog
  • Jason Momoa as Blanka
  • Orville Peck as Vega
  • Olivier Richters as Zangief
  • Hirooki Goto as E. Honda
  • Rayna Vallandingham as Juli
  • Alexander Volkanovski as Joe
  • Kyle Mooney as Marvin
  • Mel Jarnson as Cammy

Kitao Sakurai is directing the film, which is already in production. A gallery of the cast in the style of Street Fighter 2’s selection screen can be found below.

Civilization 7 developers Firaxis have laid off an unspecified number of workers, 2K confirm

by admin September 4, 2025

Civilization 7 developers Firaxis have undergone a “staff reduction” affecting an unspecified number of workers today, publishers 2K have confirmed to RPS.

News of the cuts broke via a series of posts from now former Firaxis writer Emma Kidwell. “I was affected by the layoffs at Firaxis, and am open to full time writing work at your studio,” she wrote on LinkedIn. “I’m an incredibly adaptable writer who wrote on Civilization VII and Marvel’s Midnight Suns during my (nearly) 5 years at the studio, and I encourage you to keep an eye out for my former colleagues who were also laid off.”

Responding to RPS’ outreach about the post, a 2K spokesperson provided the following statement: “We can confirm there was a staff reduction today at Firaxis Games, as the studio restructures and optimizes its development process for adaptability, collaboration, and creativity.”

The spokesperson added that 2K’s policy is not to disclose specifically how many staff are affected by layoffs. The timing of the layoffs seems worth noting, with Kidwell posting not long after Hollow Knight: Silksong’s release arrived and sucked up a lot of attention.

Firaxis have previously laid off staff back in 2023, when 30 employees were let go as part of a wider cost-reduction programme at 2K parent company Take-Two. Since then, Firaxis have released Civilization 7, which garnered mixed reception out of the gate, with players criticising the user interface among other features. Firaxis have worked to release a bunch of updates and patches since, both tweaking areas of the game folks haven’t meshed with, and adding some huge maps.

Greg Costikyan wrote the following in our Civ 7 review:

Civilization 7, as currently constituted, has some real flaws – and though I expect they may be fixed in future updates (and there are workarounds), some of this is a little sloppy. The most basic issue is: combat sucks. Before we get to why, let’s first talk about some of Civilization 7’s big new ideas. It’s pretty clear that the main design concern this time is to address two criticisms of the earlier iterations. In fact, the game is successful on that score.

Our best to the Firaxis staff affected by these layoffs.

Firaxis Lays Off ‘Dozens’ Of Devs After Civilization VII Struggles

by admin September 4, 2025

2K Games has confirmed that an unspecified number of developers at Firaxis have been laid off following the release of Civilization VII earlier this year. The strategy game struggled with critics and fans when it was released in February.

On September 4, Game Developer reported that layoffs had happened at the long-running strategy game studio Firaxis, famous for developing the recent XCOM games as well as the Civilization franchise. Online, developers posted messages on social media and LinkedIn confirming the layoffs. 2K later confirmed to the outlet that it had indeed let go of numerous workers.

In a statement, a 2K spokesperson told the outlet that it needed to enact “staff reduction” at the studio as the publisher “restructures and optimizes” video game development at Firaxis to increase “adaptability, collaboration, and creativity.” 2K’s statement didn’t confirm how many were laid off as part of this process, but sources with knowledge of the situation told Game Developer that “dozens” of people had been let go at Firaxis.

“Impacted by the Firaxis layoffs today,” posted animator Bryan Twomey on LinkedIn. “It’s been an amazing 14+ years working with some of the best people, truly.”

“Unfortunately, I was affected by the recent layoffs at Firaxis today,” posted another dev, Erika Ward.  “While I am sad to see this chapter close, I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work with such talented teammates and contribute to a project that truly withstands the test of time.”

This is the latest round of layoffs to hit a 2K-owned studio this year. In August, developers at Cloud Chamber, working on the next Bioshock game, were laid off as part of an effort to downsize the studio. In July, mobile developers at Cat Daddy Games posted online that they had been laid off. This was reportedly not the first round of cuts at the studio in 2025.

The last game from Firaxis before this round of layoffs was Civilization VII, which has sold fairly well, but has failed to connect with fans due to changes made to the series’ structure and pacing. Critics were also mixed on the latest entry in the series. On Steam, the last two Civilization games are more popular based on publicly available data.

Meanwhile, 2K Games’ parent company Take-Two Interactive is one of the biggest publishers in the industry. Later this month, it will publish Borderlands 4 through its 2K label. And next year, Take-Two will publish Rockstar’s highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6, which is likely to be the biggest game of 2026.

Helldivers 2 Patch Notes Resolve More Hard Crashes, Buff New Dust Devil Items

by admin September 4, 2025

As a game that’s constantly evolving, Helldivers 2 is no stranger to hotfixes and patches. In fact, a new update has just gone live, and it is designed to quickly address several issues that have cropped up in the game since the start of the Into the Unjust event in the game. This new patch focuses primarily on game-breaking issues causing hard crashes, as well as buffs to the new gear introduced in the Dust Devils warbond.

For general fixes, players can expect several problems to be addressed. Developer Arrowhead says that the crashes related to there being too many particle effects, Automaton missions, and a bug with a seeking missile have been resolved with this patch. Other tweaks include the extraction shuttle landing more safely for players, hive world tunnels should no longer be darker than intended if you’re using lower graphics settings, and the excessive light emitted by the Hellpad has also been toned down.

Now Playing: Helldivers 2 – Dust Devils Warbond Gameplay Trailer

When it comes to weapons and stratagems, there have also been a few issues here. The LIFT-182 Warp Pack tended to make players get stuck midair, and there were also instances of the game crashing when a player aborted a mission while wielding a turret or driving a vehicle. These should all be fixed here, and it should also be safe to equip the Halo ODST MA5C assault rifle when you’re on the bridge of your flagship.

For the buffs, Arrowhead is reducing the cooldown on the MS-11 Solo Silo and giving the S-11 Speargun a quicker reload. The silo stratagem cooldown will now drop from 210 seconds to 180 seconds, while the Speargun reload time has been cut by an entire second to just 2.5 seconds. A larger patch released earlier this week also killed several bugs, allowing players more freedom so that they could also go on a bug hunt. If you’re one of them, just be prepared to pack a few nukes in case you run into a Hive Lord.

Helldivers 2 is also available for Xbox Series X|S now, and so far, that has seen plenty of fresh recruits join the fight to bring managed democracy to distant planets.

Helldiver 2 Hotfix 01.004.001

MS-11 Solo Silo

  • Cooldown changed from 210 seconds to 180 seconds

S-11 Speargun

  • Decreased reload duration from 3.5 to 2.5 seconds

General fixes

  • Fixed a crash that can happen when too many particle effects are spawned
  • Fixed a crash when Helldivers are in Hellpods after being reinforced
  • Fixed an issue where light emitted by the Hellpad could become excessively bright under certain conditions
  • General crash fix occurring during Automaton missions
  • Fixed issue in which hive world tunnels would become darker than intended in certain circumstances when a user is using lower graphics settings
  • Fixed a crash that could occur if the target of a seeking missile gets deleted before impact
  • The extraction shuttle will land in a more safe and sound manner

Weapons & Stratagem fixes

  • Fixed the LIFT-182 Warp Pack getting stuck suspended in the air or crashing
  • Fixed a rare crash caused by multiple players having the MA5C AR equipped on the Super Destroyer
  • Fixed Displacements Backpack VFX issues whilst aiming down sights
  • Fixed a rare crash which could occur when aborting a mission while a player was wielding a turret or driving a vehicle

Put your neighbours under surveillance in automation horror game Beyond The Doors

Put your neighbours under surveillance in automation horror game Beyond The Doors

by admin September 4, 2025

“Horror” and “automation” are concepts I’m used to seeing together in fiery/weepy essays about late capitalism. I’m less used to seeing them together in videogame marketing blurbs. Horror, in an automation-based game? Why, games with automation are supposed to deliver the finest and most methodical of chemical highs. They are supposed to feel like building yourself a better brain out of candy-coloured conveyor belts and smelters. They are not supposed to make you afraid.

The game that inspires these ruminations is Beyond the Doors, out this year, which has an alpha demo on Steam. It casts you as a lonely greasemonkey working in the basement of a dour, weed-hung apartment building. Your job is to bug your neighbours, in the sense of placing them under surveillance. Every night, somebody emails you to request that you set up a listening device near somebody else’s door, then send them a recording of any activity within.

Watch on YouTube

Gathering these recordings is a ponderous challenge, partly thanks to cumbersome, MicroProsaic interface design, but also because Beyond The Doors wants to be ponderous. You have to daisy-chain devices, copying and pasting codes to synch them together. Then you have to select and save the file using DOS commands on your server computer, before wiring it to your desktop for analysis.

The fiddliness of all this is intensified, of course, by the nape-tickling awareness that Something Is Wrong. The apartment block is all greyspace and neglect, built around a central chasm with a webbed glass ceiling. You fear to turn your back on any particular door, any particular corner.

There are boulders of trash that sort of multiply like amoeba when you pick them up, but may have useful objects beneath them. The worst part, possibly, is that I can’t find a way to listen to the files I’m recording. I have no idea whether this is deliberate, or a limitation of the demo, but I think Beyond The Doors is more powerful for refusing to satisfy the very voyeurism it kindles.

I didn’t get far enough to experience this in the demo, but going by the above header image and the trailer, it all gets a bit freaky later on. I’m intrigued to see how that freakiness gels with the absorbed tinkering that defines most automation-based games. In this case, you’ll be overhauling your surveillance network with cash from each job – merging chains and installing upgrades.

“This alpha version includes the core gameplay loop: placing recorders, building receiver networks, collecting sounds, and sending reports,” write developers Dream Error on Steam. “There’s much more to come, this is just the beginning.” There’s a development roadmap, if you’re into that kind of thing, but Beyond The Doors is probably more fun if you preserve your ignorance before taking the plunge.

“It feels unreal in a way”: After nearly 1700 days, Daily Silksong News’ bittersweet goodbye on the eve of Hollow Knight sequel’s release

by admin September 4, 2025

Daily Silksong News, a YouTube channel and Discord server that has been posting constant updates on Team Cherry’s action adventure game Hollow Knight: Silksong, has said farewell after 1694 days of uploads.

The final video, which premiered as Hollow Knight: Silksong became available for sale and titled The End, the video featured a stop-motion skit sending the channel off with a face reveal of the host Araraura. It’s peak early internet energy.

Over almost 1700 days, Daily Silksong news accrued 234,000 YouTube subscribers and a Discord community of thousands of dedicated fans, lurkers, and posters. The live premiere of the final Silksong news video had over 15,000 live viewers, with longtime watchers saying their farewells at the cusp of the game’s release.

Watch the final Daily Silksong news video here.Watch on YouTube

Daily Silksong News was a running gag that transformed into something larger than its original intent. The vast majority of the channel’s uploads are brief, with host Araraura announcing there was no news. However, on the occasion when there was news, both Araraura and the channel’s community would erupt with energy.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Araraura expanded on his feelings now that the journey was over: “It feels unreal in a way, I got so used to Silksong just being ‘a game that’s not out’ now that it’s about to be it almost feels like I’m about to experience something that was out of my reach for so long”.

As for how he’ll be celebrating the release of Silksong, Daily Silksong News host Araraua will hang around with his friends and community members until the game goes live: “[I’m] probably gonna watch the DSN finale with my friends and stay on VC until the very last minute before it comes out after that I’m gonna go full blackout mode and enjoy Silksong on my own. No commentary or streaming, just at my own pace”.
