Samsung’s microSD Card Just Got Even Cheaper, A Practically Free Way to Expand Your Switch Storage

by admin September 13, 2025

We all know that storage is a hot commodity. Whether it’s managing to have enough space on your phone to record new videos and photos or having enough room on your PC or gaming console to download an upcoming title, there never seems to be enough room. That’s why when stuff like SSDs, external storage, or MicroSDs go on sale, you pick them up. Right now, the Samsung EVO Select series of memory cards are on sale, going for as much as 26% off.

Amazon has a handful of options at various capacities all on sale at the moment. The 128GB, normally $17, is several bucks off down to $13. The 256GB option is down from $26 to just $20. The 512GB MicroSD has been cut from $44 to $35 and the full 1TB option has dropped from $87 to just $75.

Give Your Switch Room to Breathe

For gamers, you can put this in your Nintendo Switch to manage both save data and the storage of the digital games themselves. The launch Nintendo Switch only comes with a measly 32GB. Now thankfully most Nintendo games aren’t too big by comparison to Xbox, PlayStation, and third-party AAA titles. Some of those shoot into the triple digits of gigs. One of Nintendo’s largest games, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, is only 18.2GB. But still, that’s more than half your console’s storage.

Pop in the 1TB Samsung EVO Select for just $75 and you won’t ever have to worry about game storage on your Switch again.

Important to note: These MicroSD cards are not compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. The new console requires MicroSD Express cards which are faster at reading and writing data. Inserting one of the Samsung EVO Select MicroSD cards into a Nintendo Switch 2 console will not allow you to save or load neither your save data nor any digital games. It is still compatible with the original Nintendo Switch console along with the Nintendo Switch Lite and Nintendo Switch OLED.

The Samsung EVO Select MicroSDs have a read and write speed of up to 160MB/s. While not enough for the Switch 2, Nintendo only recommends speeds of up to 90 MB/s on its predecessor anyway so this will have no problem with the OG Nintendo Switch.

While the price is still down, you can at least quadruple your Nintendo Switch’s storage for as low as $13. That’s a hell of a deal. Make sure to download Hollow Knight: Silksong once you’ve installed that sucker into your SD card slot.

Borderlands 4 Publisher Denies Rumors About Spyware In The Game

by admin September 13, 2025

By the end of this weekend, Borderlands 4 is probably going to be one of the biggest launches of 2025. It hasn’t gone off without a hitch, however. The game has been hit hard by negative reviews on Steam over its PC optimization. Now, Borderlands 4 has been accused of including spyware by some vocal fans online. Those rumors have been so pervasive that Borderlands 4 publisher Take-Two Interactive has already shared a statement denying them.

The issue at hand involves the kernel-level anti-cheat in Borderlands 4, which some have accused of being modified to collect data about players. Borderlands 4’s updated terms of service was also presented as evidence that the game was being used to spy on players, hence the response from Take-Two.

“Take-Two does not use spyware in its games,” wrote a company spokesperson on Steam. “Take-Two’s Privacy Policy applies to all labels, studios, games, and services across all media and platform types such as console, PC, mobile app, and website. The Privacy Policy identifies the data activities that may be collected, but this does not mean that every example is collected in each game or service.”

The company acknowledges that it does collect information about users “to deliver its services to players,” including personalization and compatibility options. Take-Two’s position is that it discloses this info in the terms of service to be transparent with fans.

PC Gamer noted that the latest furor over spyware stemmed from “a misleading YouTube video prompting fans to play a game of telephone about the changes to the EULA over Reddit and forum threads, and a bout of short-lived Steam review bombing that hasn’t accomplished much of anything.”

Similar concerns about older games from the company surfaced earlier this summer, which essentially received the same response from Take-Two as the latest allegations. The company also asserted that its updated terms allow it to go after “abusive mods” that don’t respect the intellectual property of the company, while allowing single-player non-commercial mods to be distributed freely among fans.

Gearbox has shared links for optimizing NVIDIA card graphics settings and a PC troubleshooting guide for anyone having trouble running the game. Players who need some in-game help should check out GameSpot’s Borderlands 4 guide hub for tips and secrets.

Balatro’s 1.1 update won’t come out this year, so developer Localthunk can keep working at a healthy pace

by admin September 13, 2025

Balatro’s free 1.1 update won’t release in 2025 as originally planned, developer Localthunk has announced. There’s no new release date, but they say the update’ll arrive when they’ve been able to complete it, while continuing to work at a healthy pace.

This update was first announced by publishers Playstack in August last year, with Localthunk subsequently revealing in a chat with Bloomberg that it’ll feature, among other stuff, some new jokers and a revamp of the Matador card. The latter dishes out a cash boost whenever you play a hand that triggers a boss blind’s ability.

In a blog post about the decision to delay the update, Localthunk wrote that it all comes down to wanting to ensure they keep on taking care of their health and desire to keep on developing the roguelike deckbuilder in the way they work, as you can read below:

The truth is that I probably shouldn’t have announced any date for the 1.1 update at all. I’m a hobbyist developer at heart and I love to tinker. If you read my blog post about the Balatro timeline, you’ll know that since the game went public in the summer of 2023 I have become all too familiar with the crunch and stress that inherently come with professional game development. The struggles of pre-launch are detailed in that blog post, but unfortunately it didn’t stop at launch. Immediately after Balatro 1.0 came out in February 2024 I dove right in to a big balance patch (1.0.1), then into the mobile port of the game right after, and by the time the mobile version came out in late 2024 I was well and truly burned out.

I took a break from everything to do with the game for a few months until the start of 2025 when I very slowly eased myself back into the work. However, I chose to only work on the game like I did when the project began, as a hobbyist (a few hours per day, and not always on the 1.1 update), and it turns out that it’s a lot slower than working in crunch mode 12 hours per day like I was around launch.

So, they now plan to keep on working at that slower cadence. “Balatro 1.1 will still come out, of that I am certain, but the new timeline is going to be it’s done when it’s done,” the developer explained, “It will be a free update for everyone on all platforms when it’s ready, and it’ll probably need some adjustments when it’s out there in the world (like 1.0 did), but that won’t be this year.”

I’m glad to see Localthunk putting their health and happiness above all else. After all, given that Balatro’s well-earned (not just because it led Edwin to have to write about boobs) and rampant popularity isn’t going to evaporate into nothingness anytime soon, there’s no sense in trying to rush 1.1 out. Folks will still be here for it further down the line, and ready to whip out their decks the moment it drops.

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake Announced

by admin September 13, 2025

Many regard 2003’s Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly as the best – and scariest – entry in the cult favorite Fatal Frame series, and players new and old can experience its scares thanks to a new remake coming next year.

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake is a modern overhaul of the terrifying journey of twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura, who explore a lost village, encountering supernatural horrors with only a mystical camera to defend themselves.  It’s unclear what the exact improvements the remake will have beyond the obvious graphical facelift; we do know the game is being developed by Ninja Gaiden and Nioh masterminds, Team Ninja.

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake launches in early 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC.

New Yoshi platformer unveiled to celebrate Super Mario Bros 40th anniversary

by admin September 12, 2025

A new Yoshi platformer is heading to Switch 2 to celebrate the Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book features a gorgeous hand-drawn storybook aesthetic and puzzle-like 2D gameplay.

In a string of Mario-themed announcements, this and Mario Tennis Fever were the only actual new games revealed, alongside a Switch 2 update for Super Mario Bros. Wonder and the Super Mario Galaxy double pack.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book – Nintendo Direct 9.12.2025Watch on YouTube

Still, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book looks delightful, as Nintendo follows up the wool and crafting themes of its previous Yoshi adventures.

I am, however, quite concerned about the size of the belly button on this grumpy creature.

He should get that checked out | Image credit: Nintendo

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book launches on Switch 2 in spring next year – right around the time of the newly-revealed The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Borderlands 4 And 4 Other Great Games We’re Jumping Into

by admin September 12, 2025

Some week, huh? Yeah. How about some video games? That’ll take our minds off things…well, perhaps not entirely. Our minds may still be trapped in this modern hellscape of our times, but games will hopefully give us hours of fun. And if you happen to find yourself with a comfy 48 hours of time off ahead of you but aren’t sure what to play, that’s where we come in with our recommendations.

Read More: Everything We Saw At The September 2025 Nintendo Direct

Without further ado, let’s dive into what we’re looking forward to keeping ourselves busy with in the days ahead.

Borderlands 4

Play it on: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows PCs (Steam Deck: “Unknown”)
Current goal: Loot more guns and kill more shit

I love all the Borderlands games. Yes, even 3, the one people hate for some reason. To me, the mix of gunplay, co-op, weird sci-fi, and endless killin’/lootin’ is a perfect mixture that rips away days or even weeks of my life in a flash. And Borderlands 4 is maybe my favorite one yet. (I’ve not written my full review yet, so we’ll see where I land in a few days.)

The gunplay and combat are better than ever, the loot is more balanced, the story is less annoying, and the open world is more rewarding to explore. It’s the next step forward for the franchise, and I’m scared of how many hours I’m going to lose to it. Especially as my friends get the game and I start running different characters and builds. – Zack Zwiezen

Hollow Knight: Silksong

© Screenshot: Team Cherry / Kotaku

Play it on: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch/Switch 2, Windows PCs (Steam Deck: “Verified”)
Current goal: Die a lot while loving every second of the pain

I have spent an embarrassing amount of time on Hollow Knight: Silksong. Hopefully, goddess willing, I get to spend even more time with it this weekend.

I never played Hollow Knight, but with the sequel, I just got swept up in the collective excitement and let myself enthusiastically purchase a video game–and what a joy it’s been! This game is just beautiful, especially on a quality screen like the Steam Deck OLED’s. The sound design? Ugh, to die for. And the challenge? Well, yeah, that’s awesome too.

As a fitness coach said to me once as I was gasping for air from some ridiculous bullshit he was making me do, “easy things aren’t worth doing.” It was serious and funny at the same time, but the sentiment helped get me through the workout and many more since. There’s something valuable in that kind of experience. Let me elaborate.

Siliksong has been a hit in my local IRL circles. So many folks I know are playing it on their handheld devices and the difficulty, the challenge, the effort it takes to make progress in it have turned this game about strange little bugs into a gravity well of discussion. We empathize with the frustration someone feels when a boss smacks ‘em down for the seventh time in a row. Hearing that someone cleared a particularly hard thing sees folks offer genuine exclamations of “congrats!” Upon departing, we often wish each other “good luck,” referring to the tough challenges that lie ahead.

Are some challenges unnecessary? Maybe. Could there be tweaks that might make the game a touch fairer? Maybe. But at what cost? The runbacks you often have to undertake upon dying seem to be a part of the loop necessary to get you to collect your shards and restock on any beads you may have lost, plus that’s when you should be practicing your attacks! Boss fights aren’t when you should be still figuring out the physics of the diagonal downward strike.

Challenges can be exciting to think about and talk about with friends. A hard game demands attention, a set of skills for you to build into muscle memory and then use to satisfyingly pull off memorable feats. And when those elements are in a game as pretty as they are in Silksong? Those feats are all the more worth achieving. – Claire Jackson

Shadow Labyrinth

Play it on: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch/Switch 2,Windows PCs (Steam Deck: “Verified”)
Current goal: Defeat the G-Hosts once and for all

This will probably be the last time I mention Bandai Namco’s strange and wonderful Pac-Man-adjacent Metroidvania here because I think I must be near its conclusion and I’m hoping to finally roll credits on it this weekend. This game, which I purchased thinking it might be a pleasantly nostalgic off-kilter diversion that took me 15 hours or so, has proven to be the most captivating game I’ve played all year, uncompromisingly committed to its vision and far more expansive than I anticipated. It’s decidedly “not for everyone” (what game is?) but if you’re open to being thrown into a world that makes itself deliberately hard to understand for many hours and you have any interest in the lore and history of early arcade games, consider getting lost in this maze for a while. – Carolyn Petit

Sword of the Sea

Play it on: PS5, PC
Current goal: Get the Platinum trophy

Sword of the Sea is this year’s Journey and I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about it. Developed by the thatgamecompany alum who cofounded Giant Squid (the indie team behind 2020’s PS5 launch game The Pathless), Sword of the Sea is another beautiful platforming adventure that’s more about cool traversal than interesting friction. You surf across snow, sand, and water like a weightless train gliding along magnetic rails as you collect seeds to bring life back to the ghostly environments.

It’s very short–only two or three hours unless you’re going for a completionist run–and not too demanding. It’s a brief but beautiful adventure that is content to let you have fun performing simple but satisfying tricks on your hoverboard as you shred across dunes and waves. The music and visuals are excellent, the feel of the gameplay is top-notch, and it’s free with PS Plus. I’m not sure if it will make my top 10 list but the experience packs so much evocative energy into such a short runtime there’s no excuse to not give it a try. – Ethan Gach

2XKO

Play it on: PC
Current goal: Figure out what the hell I’m doing

I’m not a League of Legends person. I never even finished watching Arcane despite it being very much my shit. But an invite to the 2XKO beta test just landed in my lap, and I love fighting games, so here I am. I only know, like, two of the characters in the roster, so I have zero perception of how any of these characters will work in a fighting game context. Thus, my goal is to just mess around with these fighters with some friends and figure out if there’s a character or two I really gravitate toward. In most fighting games, it’s not usually a specific predetermined playstyle that pulls me in, but rather I just find characters I like and adapt to playing them. It’s why I play a brawler like Akihiko in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax but a range-based character like Green Arrow in Injustice 2. So who knows who I’ll end up maining in 2XKO? — Kenneth Shepard

And that wraps our picks for the weekend! What games are keeping you busy?

Jump Space Price And Update Roadmap Revealed, Including Melee Weapons And First-Person

by admin September 12, 2025

Jump Space is almost ready to exit space port and enter early access. Ahead of the game’s debut later this month, Keepsake Games has set the price for Jump Space and laid out the update calendar well into 2026.

On Bluesky, Keepsake announced that Jump Space’s early access release will be available for $20 on Xbox Series X|S and PC on September 19. Chapter 1: The Resistance Coalition will begin at the start of early access, with Chapter 2: Atira Strikes Back launching by early 2026. In a series of short updates in that time frame, Keepsake plans to introduce text chat, hangar vendors, a ship shield revamp, melee weapons, an expanded story, new missions, photo mode, and other additions.

The roadmap for Jump Space’s updates.

In Q1 2026, Chapter 3: Secrets of the Telmari will bring support for a first-person mode, more sectors, a scanner revamp, voice chat, new enemies, and a ground boss into the game. There are plans for Chapter 4: Heart of Corruption before the game exits early access. However, there are no dates or concrete details about when that might occur.

Until fairly recently, this game was known as Jump Ship before the name was changed over trademark issues. Jump Space is a co-op game that brings together up to four players as the crew of a ship that can control and repair their shared vessel. The gameplay resembles Left 4 Dead and Sea of Thieves, with some additional sci-touches touches like planetary exploration and space walks. It’s a dangerous galaxy out there, and players will run into trouble when enemies appear during on-foot encounters or during space combat when the crew is still on their ship. However, the game is strictly PvE, rather than PvP.

Keepsake Games has previously mentioned that Jump Space will feature several “handcrafted missions with random elements” to keep the game fresh. More than 1 million players have wishlisted Jump Space on Steam. For now, the game will only be available on Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly is getting a PC remake, bringing its horror photography to Steam

by admin September 12, 2025

Smile and say AIEEEEE, horror fans! Tecmo and Team Ninja are bringing a “remake” of PS2 survival horror Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly to PC via Steam in early 2026. Why am I brandishing a glyph-covered Canon EOS 90D at you, while singing the Ghostbusters theme? Allow me to explain: Fatal Frame’s signature touch is that you defeat spooks using a magic camera. Naturally, this also means that you have to look steadily and calmly at said spooks while they shimmer and sway towards you. Catch some of that nonsense in the remake’s announcement trailer.

Watch on YouTube

I’ve only ever played one Fatal Frame game, 2005’s Fatal Frame III: The Tormented, in which you alternate between a relatively safe daytime apartment and a dream manor where the monsters are. I’m told that Crimson Butterfly is the best of the lot. It’s the story of twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura, who visit a stream one day to reminisce about their childhoods before the area is submerged by the construction of a dam.

Alas and alack, Mayu spots a nice red butterfly that lures her away to a “village of never-ending night”, home to a “forbidden ritual”. I had a similar thing happen to me while hiking along the Dales Way, once. The butterfly was a deceptively cheap Airbnb listing, the village was Kendal, and the forbidden ritual was all-night karaoke at the Olde Fleece Inn.

According to the Steam page, the Crimson Butterfly remake will be a “complete overhaul”, with “richer and more engaging gameplay in both exploration and combat”. In particular, you can expect a “Holding Hands with Mayu” mechanic that, presumably, lets you hold hands with Mayu. I really hope there’s more to this so-called remake’s “richer and more engaging gameplay” than simply letting major characters hold hands, Tecmo.

I enjoy the nerdiness of Fatal Frame’s photography mechanics. The camera can be upgraded with different lenses and types of film, and it’s not impossible that you might learn something about shot composition while you’re flashbulbing poltergeists. Given nerves of steel, you might find yourself demanding that the ghost go out and come in again, because dang it, this one could be worthy of the New Yorker. The ghost will not listen to you, of course, but don’t let that stop you yelling at your TV screen.

Two previous Fatal Frame games have made the leap to PC – Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse and Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water. Our Mask of the Lunar Eclipse reviewer Kim Armstrong was not keen, commenting of the PC port, “while this unique combat may have carried the game’s lifeless story back in 2008, this rerelease is nothing more than an expensive reskin of a relic.”

We didn’t review Maiden of Black Water, possibly because it was so terrifying that Graham (RPS in peace) refused to assign it and instead threw it into a lake one dark and stormy evening. Or possibly because it was so boring that Graham (RPS in peace) refused to assign it and instead threw it into a lake one dark and stormy evening. He’s gone now, so it’s impossible to say for sure.

Pokemon Pokopia Is Giving Off Serious Animal Crossing And Minecraft Vibes

by admin September 12, 2025

One of the most surprising reveals during today’s Nintendo Direct is that Pokemon has a new game, Pokemon Pokopia, coming next year, and it’s a big departure for the franchise. From the reveal trailer, Pokopia looks like a cross between Minecraft, Animal Crossing, and Dragon Quest Builders set in the Pokemon universe.

There are no battles to fight in this cozy game, so this might be a utopia for any battle-weary Pokemon. Players assume control of a Ditto–a Pokemon that can mimic other creatures–who has taken on the form of a human. The Ditto can craft materials and buildings in addition to borrowing powers from various Pokemon to grow crops and take care of the creatures under their care.

Pokemon Pokopia will be released on Switch 2 in 2026, but it doesn’t have an exact release date yet.

Following the reveal of Pokemon Pokopia, Nintendo announced that the next game in the franchise, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, will be getting a paid DLC expansion and two new Mega evolutions. A recent video from Pokemon Legends: Z-A also introduced Malamar as an influencer in the world of the game.

Earlier this week, Nintendo secured a patent that may reshape the future of Pokemon-inspired games like Palworld. The patent covers “the fundamental gameplay mechanic of summoning a character and letting it fight another” within a video game.
