Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 PS5 Preorders Are Live

We’ve seen numerous first-party Xbox games make the jump to PS5 in recent months, and one of the next titles to appear on Sony’s platform is a big one: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The latest entry in the long-running flight sim series will land on PS5 on December 8. The game will be available physically and digitally for $70, and preorders are now live. Securing an early copy will unlock an extra aircraft, the Northrop T-38A Talon, to pilot in-game.

As mentioned above, preordering any version of Microsoft Flight Simulator on PS5 will unlock the Northrop T-38A Talon as an extra in-game aircraft, letting player fly the supersonic jet immediately once they start the game.

For the PS5 release, players can expect the same accurately rendered world, flight paths, and aircraft as the PC and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game. Developer Asobo Studio has added several significant post-launch updates, and the PS5 version will feature up to 125 highly detailed aircraft. Not only can you fly business jets and ultralight airplanes, but Flight Simulator 2024 also includes airships, hot air balloons, rotorcraft, and fight jets.

There’ll also be several PlayStation-exclusive features for this version of Flight Simulator 2024, designed specifically for the DualSense controller. Adaptive triggers will respond to different speeds and surface types on the ground to add a sense of immersion, air traffic control communications will be played through the controller speaker, and there’ll be more features that will utilize the DualSense lightbar, gyro controls, and touchpad. PS VR2 owners will be able to experience the entire game through their headset when a free update for Flight Simulator 2024 arrives in 2026.

If you’re on Xbox and you haven’t tried it out yet, you can get a good deal on the Premium Deluxe Edition of Flight Simulator 2024. This is for a digital code, but it does unlock the full game, 25 additional aircraft and 10 extra international airports. Normally, you’d pay $130 for this edition, but it is on sale for $63 currently through a limited-time Amazon and Walmart deal.

While Flight Simulator 2024 is perfectly playable with a traditional controller on console, you just can’t beat a proper flight stick for making you feel like you’re really sitting inside of a cockpit. There’s no shortage of these, and while the best models do cost quite a bit, there are affordable alternatives to choose from. The official Flight Simulator 2024 flight stick from Thrustmaster is rock-solid, and attractively priced at $107.

It’s compatible with Xbox Series X|S and PC, and its design offers 10-bit precision with five axes–including Z axis–14 programmable buttons, a rapid-response trigger, and a multidirectional hat switch. All of that hardware is housed in a crisp white shell with Flight Simulator 2024 branding on it, and you can separate the joystick from the throttle.

If you’re looking for realistic yoke controls instead, Logitech does offer a peripheral designed to emulate that piloting setup on PC. Inside the box you’ll find the flight yoke with a long USB connector cable, the flight throttle quadrant, and desk clamps. This controller has a stainless steel yoke shaft designed to provide accurate and smooth control, and for inputs, it’s loaded with a POV hat switch, 14 buttons, and a three-position mode switch for added customization.

This can also be integrated into Logitech’s other flight sim devices thanks to its modular design, so if you want to build a realistic cockpit, the company does offer switches, flight instruments, and radio panels alongside flight rudder pedals.

As noted above, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is one of several Microsoft-published games launching physically on PS5. Some, like with Gears of War: Reloaded, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Doom: The Dark Ages, are already available, while others are launching soon, such as Ninja Gaiden 4 on October 21 and The Outer Worlds 2 on October 29. Forza Horizon 6 was also confirmed to be in development for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PS5, with a 2026 release window.

Yes, this is news. You can bet your bottom it was news to me when I loaded up Nexus Mods for my daily look this morning and found that Hollow Knight: Silksong’s adult section had tripled in size overnight. It’s the sexy Hornet mods, they’ve broken containment, truth-telling hips and all.

Up until today, my searches for story-worthy Silksong mods had returned only the benign, including multiplayer and boss practice add-ons that you could comfortably show an elderly relative. No more. Last night saw a pair of sexy Hornet mods, the first to hit the Nexus to my knowledge, arrive.

Shot first was ‘Curvier Hornet’ from modder Sandinsoda. “It was bound to happen,” they wrote, pointing would-be sexy Skongers to requirements BepInEx 5 with Configuration Manager and Silksong Customizer. As you’d imagine, the mod makes the capeless version of Hornet you play as at one point in metroidvania a bit more, er, voluptuous in terms of figure.

Mere hours later, the chaser, a second mod. This time, ‘Curvy naked hornet’ by modder foureye5. Sandinsoda marched straight into its comments section, bellicosely bellowing “I wonder what prompted this”. Tension ensued for several hours, only to be broken by a third party, who replied: “Honestly it looks different enough to warrant it being a serious alternative. Like this one has better thighs. But yours has a better chest.”

“Fair enough,” responded Sandinsoda.

That’s the torrid tale of why if you pull up Silksong’s Nexus Mods page right now and filter so that only ones tagged adult show up, you’ll find three things. These two mods – the nude Hornet equivalent of Beavis and Butthead – and another mod that adds a swear to the text prompt for binding.

Are these curvy Hornet mods the first ever sexy Silksong works ever created? Almost certainly not, since it has a Loverslab page I refuse to verify my age in order to access, because I still have some shreds of dignity left. However, they are the first to emerge into what I’d deem the modding mainstream. Unrepentant. Insolent. Aimed a target audience of jokesters and probably at least one serious craver of Skong sexuality. Took them long enough, given they’ve even been preceded by a mod that makes Hornet disappear altogether.

Xbox ROG Ally Prices Revealed, Pre-Orders Now Live

Microsoft and Asus have revealed the price points for their two models of the handheld PC, the Xbox ROG Ally. And, unsurprisingly, they’re not cheap.

The Xbox ROG Ally was revealed in June during the Xbox Game Showcase and is an Xbox-branded model of Asus’ Steam Deck competitor, the ROG Ally. The device’s primary selling point is its ability to run Xbox games and apps natively, including those from Game Pass, allowing players to access their Xbox software library on the go. Powered by Windows 11, the Xbox ROG Ally can also run other platforms such as Steam, Battle.net, and GOG.

 

Launching on October 16, pre-orders are now live in 38 countries for the two models: The ROG Ally and the more powerful ROG Ally X. Here’s what they cost:

Xbox ROG Ally X (1TB): $999.99

Xbox ROG Ally (512GB): $599.99

These premium prices were to be expected (especially since the standard ROG Allies are generally quite expensive), but the sticker price may sting from potential Xbox converts still reeling from Microsoft’s recent announcement of a second price increase to its Xbox Series consoles starting next week. Xbox and Asus likely knew it would have to bite the bullet as well, as they seemingly withheld revealing the price for as long as possible while eying the economy to determine the appropriate pricing. It will be interesting to see how many players will be willing to shell out that kind of money for an ROG Ally, given the rising prices of video game hardware across the board going into the holiday season.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds adds Mega Man next year, with post-launch roadmap now revealed

Sega has revealed the post-launch roadmap for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, including last night’s announcement that Mega Man will be joining next year as paid DLC.

Capcom’s iconic hero will be joined by Proto Man too, plus there will be a Dr. Wily’s Castle course and a vehicle inspired by canine companion Rush.

The DLC will be available in Q2 next year in the third patch of the game’s Season Pass. That begins later this year with the addition of Minecraft and SpongeBob Squarepants, with Pac-Man to follow early next year.

Then, Q3 of 2026 will see the arrival of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and anime Avatar Legends. Each Season Pass Content Pack includes playable characters, a new vehicle, a new track, emotes and sounds.

In addition, there will be a number of free updates adding new characters and more. Hatsune Miku and Sonic Prime characters are available at launch for Digital Deluxe owners. Then later this year Joker from Persona 5 and Ichiban from Like A Dragon will be added, along with another unknown character.

More free additions will arrive in each quarter next year. You can see the roadmap in the image below.

Mega Man’s inclusion leaked last week, so his reveal at last night’s PlayStation State of Play came as little surprise.

However, the back of the physical box includes artwork for Sega Saturn icon NiGHTS, with fans presuming the jester character will be one of the free characters coming to the game.

11 Things I Wish I Knew Before Playing Silent Hill f

Legendary survival horror series Silent Hill has entered a new era this week with the arrival of the highly anticipated Silent Hill f. f aims to deliver Silent Hill’s themes of dreadful, psychological horror in a brand new setting, featuring new characters and a new combat system.

The combat here is a little more action-focused than in previous entries in the series, though the game still manages to feel dangerous at every turn. And while I had a delightfully macabre time with this elegant survival horror game, there were a few things I wish I’d known before jumping in. So, after spending tens of hours on this game in both Story and Hard mode, allow me to share with you what I learned while surviving the fog.

1. Don’t sleep on omamori

f may be a survival horror game, but it’s got a touch more build-crafting than you might expect. Not only can you improve Hinako’s max health, stamina, and sanity, you can also equip omamori to augment her abilities. You can increase the maximum amount of omamori slots by spending enough faith at shrines.

While you might be better off investing faith in improving your stamina first, you should still be regularly checking which omamori you’ve collected thus far to see where you can gently improve your combat skills. Plus, unlocking an extra omamori slot can be really advantageous.

2. Stop hanging onto those offerings

As you traverse the weird and terrifying world of Silent Hill f, you’ll find various offerings like antique combs and dried carcasses. These items have no utility beyond earning faith by offering them up at a shrine. But they do take up inventory space. On more than a few occasions, I found my inventory full only to see that there was some random offering I picked up a while back still taking up space, doing nothing but inconvenience me.

Check your inventory for offerings every time you’re at a shrine and you’ll have a lot more room to spare.

3. Invest in Stamina first, Sanity second

Stamina is Hinako’s super power. No, really! While our girl is plenty capable of bashing in a monster with a steel pipe, weapons break pretty quickly and there are more than a few occasions when you can easily be overwhelmed by enemies. You’ll need to be able to deftly get in and out of skirmishes with the creatures of the fog. For this reason, I recommend investing in improving your stamina first, followed by sanity second.

Sanity is what will allow you to pull off a pretty powerful counter attack, as well as Hinako’s charged light melee strike (this ability isn’t available at first).

Having a generous amount of stamina to maneuver out of the way of enemies, and enough sanity to deliver more powerful strikes, will help you get hit less and ensure enemies go down faster.

4. Don’t get into useless fights

The creatures of the fog might be creepy, but you’ll quickly realize that many of them are pretty easy to take out–especially if you’re used to combat-focused games like Dark Souls. That said, resist the urge to go wild and clear the town of monsters. While your weapons in the Dark Shrine segments of the game won’t break, the random pipes, crowbars, and kitchen knives you’ll pick up in Ebisugaoka are fragile little things and you can easily find yourself without a weapon all too easily.

Hinako can’t punch or kick, so if you’re without a weapon, you will have no offensive options against monsters. No bueno. Pick your battles strategically.

5. Higashi is kinda broken

Early on, I neglected eating any Higashi, which restores your stamina, because managing stamina seemed like a me-problem more than anything else. That was until I got to hard mode and had to take on one of the game’s early bosses and, well, I learned that this item is kinda broken.

Not only will eating it replenish your stamina, but you’ll have unlimited stamina after eating for a rather generous amount of time. This provides a perfect opportunity to spam your dodge while also getting in close to deliver a ton of hits without worrying about your stamina.

6. Keep your distance and use the camera to peer around corners before exposing yourself

Silent Hill f is pretty low on jump scares. But there are more than a few occasions in which monsters are eager to hop out from a hiding spot and attack you. When this happens, it’s more than likely that you’ll get pulled into a grab animation where the camera will zoom up to show the monster brutally attacking Hinako.

There’s no way out of this animation once it starts. Mash all the buttons you want, you’re not getting out of it without losing a chunk of your health. So in general, it’s best to try and leave some distance between you and any monster you happen to be fighting.

One way to do that is to use the third-person camera to peer around a corner where you suspect a monster may be hiding. The game will play some gentle static (though it sounds a little more like a record player looping on silence in this game) when a monster is nearby, so trust your eyes and ears to avoid unnecessary damage.

7. Counter attacks get easier once you unlock Hinako’s charged-up attack

Silent Hill f’s counter-attack can be a little challenging to pull off at first. You have to wait for the monster to flash in color, then hold down focus, then execute a heavy attack. Given that focusing drains your sanity meter pretty quickly, countering an enemy can be a weird, time-sensitive juggling act.

That said, once you unlock Hinako’s charged-up light attack, things get a little easier.

Since you have to hold down your focus button anyway to charge up your light attack, it has the added benefit of putting you in a good place to successfully pull off a counter-attack. While you’re waiting for Hinako’s attack to charge up, keep your eyes on the enemy. If they flash in color, forget the light attack and immediately hit your heavy attack button. Since you’re holding down your focus button, you’ll trigger the counter attack.

8. Nail that perfect dodge

Dodge just before an enemy strikes you, and Hinako will hack the foggy Matrix to slow down time and recharge her stamina instantly. It’s a pretty small window, but nailing this move is pretty essential for surviving the game’s tougher enemies. Hinako runs out of stamina pretty fast, so do everything you can to preserve and restore it.

9. Look out for helpful items during boss fights

Fragile weapons and sparse items can make you feel pretty on edge at times in Silent Hill f, especially during boss encounters. Fortunately, the game wants you to succeed more than you might think. While my first run through “Story” difficulty didn’t have me desperate for healing items, Hard mode is a different matter.

Fortunately, I’ve noticed that it’s pretty common for the game to throw some items your way during boss fights; you just need to keep your eyes peeled in corners and other non-obvious places.

10. Collect everything; read everything

Us masochists sure do love a game that kicks you when you’re down. But there’s so much more to Silent Hill f than the struggle against the fog’s shambling, knife-wielding monstrosities. Hinako is quite the diligent note-taker and artist, and you are missing out on so, so much if you don’t take the time to read the various character entries and in-game documents. Not only is the art design on-friggin’-point in f, but so much of the game’s wonderful use of metaphor and its dives into Japanese folklore are found in the journal.

11. Resist brute-forcing your way through puzzles

Trying to brute-force your way through most puzzles in SHf is a quick way to sink into some serious ennui. Puzzles in this game often have too many variables for this approach to succeed in a reasonable amount of time, and trying to do so is way more frustrating than just figuring them out as intended.

While the clues in it aren’t always the most obvious, spend some time studying Hinako’s notebook. You can always jump to it while looking at a puzzle via the on-screen prompt in the lower left-hand corner.

Silent Hill f won me over with its brutally dark tale first and foremost, but its combat has a satisfying rhythm that settles into place over the course of the game. Hopefully with these tips, you’ll end up with a few less broken weapons and even fewer scars from those mannequin psychopaths.

KPop Demon Hunters Are You Next Rumored Guests For Fortnite’s Halloween Party

Last year’s Fortnitemares was extremely packed with microtransactions, with the Fortnite item shop averaging a new collab skin every other day over the course of October. And it may be that Fortnitemares 2025 will be even more crowded, with long-rumored collabs with Scream, Friday the 13th, and Scooby-Doo expected to appear in the Fortnite shop during spooky season. But now there’s a new rumor about yet another Fortnitemares collab–KPop Demon Hunters.

The exact nature of the Fortnite x KPOP Demon Hunters collab isn’t clear at all right now, since the entire leak is just HypeX saying that it’s “the main Halloween collab” and that it’s “not just skins.” If true, this would presumably mean that there will be some new KPop Demon Hunters-related gameplay mechanic, like a new weapon or other item. Though since Fortnitemares is also rumored to have a Jason Voorhees medallion and Ghostface’s mythic knife, the KPop Demon Hunters collab would have to be even more involved with that.

The new season of Fortnite Festival begins on October 9, and so it’s possible that HUNTR/X will be the new season headliners. Epic previously promised the upcoming Festival season would be focused on Fortnite-original stuff, but that just means they had a plan that would have been very easy to pivot away from if they had the chance to swap in a collab with the biggest Netflix movie ever.

Fortnitemares 2025 is expected to start in early October, but we don’t know for sure when it will be just yet. Even so, there have been plenty of leaks about what we can expect to see from this year’s spooky festivities, and you can read all about them here.

Consume Me is a brilliant, funny, harrowing RPG about a girl on a diet, and it’s on sale now

I’ve yet to fully consume Consume Me, so please take that headline with a pinch of salt (not too much, because apparently salt can cause short-term weight gain). Still, I thought I’d rush out a quick “on sale now” piece before the weekend because this game is extremely good, and I worry based on the Steam stats that it’s being overlooked.

It’s a fast-talking, mildly anguished pocket RPG about a high schoolgirl, Jenny, who is trying to lose weight while balancing schoolwork, domestic duties, an emerging social life, and her domineering mom. It broadly consists of household tasks and Coming Of Age Milestones couched as a bunch of Wario Ware-style timed minigame puzzles. Among other antics, you’ll fold laundry by clicking on cue, manage a (dis)interest bar during a terrible date, apply your make-up as though doodling yourself in Kid Pix, and surgically arrange food on your plate while passing carbier morsels to your absurdly squishy dog.

The developers are Jenny Jiao Hsia, AP Thomson, Jie En Lee, Violet W-P, and Ken “coda” Snyder. They offer the following cautionary note: “Consume Me is a semi-autobiographical game that depicts dieting, disordered eating, and fatphobia. If you are someone who struggles with or has struggled with disordered eating, it’s possible that Consume Me will be a stressful or even upsetting experience and we won’t begrudge you for giving it a pass.”

I myself have never had an eating disorder, but to borrow a phrase from Eddie Izzard, I am familiar with the experience of sliding up to the mirror and thinking “well I wouldn’t fuck me”. The mirror is indeed home to the Furies in Consume Me – it’s where Jenny gets her quest assignments from her comically unforgiving reflection. I laughed a lot during my first hour with Consume Me. I think I’ll probably cry a bit at some point, too. But even if I reach one of the less-good 13 possible endings, I don’t get the sense I’ll regret the journey.

Consume Me’s visual wit is balanced by a startling emphasis on resource management that is also a critique of the gamification of wellbeing. It’s divided into days, which are divided into scripted and unforeseeable events such as trips to the shops, random hot boy encounters and above all, mealtimes. These see you trying to put enough stuff on Jenny’s plate to fill her Gut gauge, without taking too many Bites. In my current save, I started out piling up objects subject to real-time physics, but then I had Jenny glean a few tips from a dieting mag, and the eating minigame evolved into a process of slotting together random Tetris blocks.

Overeat, and you may wish to burn off the pounds by exercising in Jenny’s room. Exercise takes the form of dragging an elasticated Jenny around with the cursor to fit various poses. Many of the minigames and cutscenes involve the clownish deformation of Jenny’s body. It’s amusing, and also a bit painful to watch. Consume Me does a great job of leaning into Looney Tunes slapstick while making clear that the portrayal contains an element of self-loathing.

As for those resource gauges, you’ve got to worry about your energy (used for physical labours like walking the dog), your mood (strongly affected by hunger), and your cash reserves (see also, buying a new swimsuit before the big neighbourhood pool party). While the minigames may seem flimsy, there’s a bit of strategy to distributing your time efficiently and unlocking activities, buffs and outfits that juice your stats. Again, though, this feels like critique, not an earnest equation of levelling-up with self-improvement. The developers caution in a brief foreword that Jenny’s fortunes may take a turn for the worse even if she masters all these life-hacking gambits.

The character art and interface design are sumptuously daft, with chunky Walkman buttons and a colour scheme suggestive of a virtual pet game, which I guess this sort of is. The audio is possibly even better: there’s different music for each part of Jenny’s day, and the sound effects fit the visual gags superbly. Above all, Consume Me is fast. Even when it’s dealing with more difficult stuff, like your mom body-shaming you, it rarely prolongs a scene for more than a few sentences.

Find the joyful, slightly upsetting thing on Steam. If you want a second opinion, Oisin had some quick thoughts on a demo in May. I suspect one reason Consume Me hasn’t yet made a splash is that it’s launched in the same week as various other brillo experimental games.

In particular, there’s Baby Steps from Bennett Foddy and co, which comes at similar subject matter from a very different direction. I’ve written previously about how that outwardly depressive game sort of celebrates the experience of inhabiting a disagreeable lump of flesh. I get the feeling Baby Steps and Consume Me will make natural companion pieces. We’ll hopefully have more thoughts on both down the road.

Eve Vanguard is a strange proposition: part-MMO, part-FPS, part-companion game to the seemingly eternal juggernaut that is Eve Online, it’s developer CCP’s latest attempt to make a shooter that works as part of the storied universe. And I think, so far, it shows a lot of promise. The potential in Vanguard is the result of a passionate team being given (relatively) free rein to do what they want, as long as it’s fun and abides by the Eve bible. In a world where many developers are looking at smaller games with shorter development cycles, Vanguard’s gestation time – and trust from its parent company – is an increasingly rare thing.

But it’s driven by trust, and a genuine desire to see something like Vanguard finally take off. Bigwigs at CCP have told me, directly, that getting a shooter in the world of Eve to work is “an age-old dream CCP has been wanting to realise.” And it’s not for lack of trying. Previously, we’ve had Dust 514, the cult MMOFPS PS3 game that CCP worked on with Sony in 2013, which shut down in 2016. Since then, we’ve heard about both Project Nova and Project Legion, neither of which made it to release. Now, there’s Vanguard – a game I’ve personally been following for quite some time.

As such, I’ve seen the development process first-hand, seen how the ambitious shooter fleshes out. I’ve played it when the guns didn’t even really have models, when enemies were just amorphous grey blobs. But CCP London has been open about it every step of the way – and when it unveiled the new direction (more 00s space shooter than bland military sim), I was thrilled. It offered something different: a take on the Tarkov-like shooter that puts fun before punishment.

Now, the developer is ready to show off the next aspect of its vision: from the FPS side to the MMO side. Right now, there’s a flotilla of dissatisfied players from Destiny 2 looking for a new home. Marathon’s internal and external issues are well-documented, and it doesn’t bode well for launch. There’s Arc Raiders, which has some hype, and Helldivers 2 continues to dominate the landscape, but there’s just about enough room for Vanguard to muscle in on the action, thinks CCP London. But the social aspect of these games is skinnier than what Davis envisions for Vanguard.

This past week, Vanguard launched ‘Operation Nemesis’, a huge update that was designed to explain the tenets of the game. It has a complete tutorial, a taster of the sort of content you can expect in the final game, and – perhaps most importantly – a live environment where you can meet, interact with (and perhaps get absolutely obliterated by) other players. Generally speaking, when you’re on the ground, you’re fair game: you can work with other teams to extract loot and materials – a rising tide helps all ships, so they say – or you can be a dick and eliminate another team and snatch their loot. It’s the PvPvE way, alas, and has a high-percent chance of being incredibly toxic. But therein, perhaps, lies the fun.

“There are some safeguards we can already draw in,” explains Scott Davis, game director on Eve Vanguard. “Eve Online already has this concept of high-sec, low-sec and null-sec.” For clarity, high security spaces have a higher presence of NPC enforcement troops, which diminish as you go down in classification – mess with other players in high-sec, and you’re going to get some bad attention. “You always start at high-sec, and you tend to be moving into low-sec areas. And that helps to give some guardrails or some safety nets around the more player-versus-player driven parts of the game. We’ll be using those same aspects in Vanguard.”

Some of the persistent, strategic zones (which are called ‘bastions’ in Vanguard parlance) will, therefore, have no PvP at all. If you don’t want to get ganked whilst going on a nice mining mission to pick up some ore, you can chill out there. “I play Final Fantasy 14 like a single-player game,” explains Davis, “just with lots of other people around me. And it feels richer because of that. And that’s something I think we can lean into.” That’s what these high-sec ‘bastions’ will look like: pleasant MMO hubs, with “me and my friends running around, doing lots of PvE things”. It’s “mingleplayer”, says Davis.

I love that term: that’s how I spent a lot of my time in both Destiny and FF14. In Destiny, I’d often go off and play PvP as a lone wolf, head back to The Tower, dance with some randos, and then jet off to do some strikes. Seeing other people going about their business was all part of the joy. In Final Fantasy 14, I liked to play a chef; getting ingredients and cooking dishes for players before hitting up a raid. It’s a good way to make friends. But any game operating in an online space has the potential for bad behaviour. That’s not a problem for Vanguard, though.

“But even in that first bastion, you’ll be aware that there are these high-sec planets and low-sec planets and null-sec planets. So if you want to be an absolute bastard, there are specific places you can go to do that. And then anyone who goes there knows that there’s a higher propensity for bastardry in those spaces.”

But that’s not to say that the high-sec portions of the game will be completely safe for the pacifists amongst us. “We’re also thinking, ‘how can we make high-sec cool?’,” explains Davis. “The idea that I shoot you but I’m just not dealing damage to you is an easy way of solving that problem, but are there much more interesting ways of doing that? I think there are. In Eve Online, you can destroy other ships, but then you get a ‘wanted level’, and then police are after you – what if, in these high-sec worlds, you can kill another player, but then all this stuff happens.

“Suddenly, a Space Police Concord drops right next to you. You show up on the map. Security forces announce: ‘right, everyone’s got infinite respawns until this person dies!’ It takes me back to playing DayZ, when you get a player-killer on the server, and then all of a sudden the whole server now wants to rally against the player killer. It’s putting more power into the people to solve the problem. It dissuades you from wanting to do PvP, but sometimes you might just think, ‘I want to cause that to happen. I want a big fight, I want the whole server against me’.”

One of the very Eve Online anecdotes I was told at CCP’s studio is that, recently, the leader of an in-game corporation sided with another corporation out of nowhere. This person started deleting the assets of all the other corporations before he was caught. It was a scandal. “That’s not something you would ever engineer,” laughs Davis. “There’s a system that you make and players just rip, tear, and rend in their own way.”

It very much sounds like CCP London wants to take that philosophy from the main Eve game and shape it into something that works in an MMOFPS. As we see Helldivers 2 devs act like dungeon masters as players opt to cause in-universe havoc, and people bounce off Destiny 2 as its narrative and development direction feels increasingly out-of-touch with the players, it’s a fascinating prospect. Of course, it’s still early days and there is plenty that will be ironed out as the game heads towards a proper early access release next year, but for now, I’m very much picking up what Vanguard is putting down. I just hope it can stick the landing.

The Gathering Is Making PlayStation Cards, And They Look Great

Magic: The Gathering has become the Fortnite of trading card games, and as annoying as I find the practice of constantly dumping different IPs together, even God’s strongest soldiers are not immune to propaganda. At MagicCon Atlanta, Wizards of the Coast and Sony announced that PlayStation series are getting seven different Secret Lair drops for various games, and folks, I want those Last of Us cards.

On October 27, Wizards of the Coast will be selling seven PlayStation sets, with most of them covering different franchises in the console maker’s catalog. However, both The Last of Us and God of War are getting two sets. The former will have a pair of cards for both the first game and its sequel, while the latter will cover both the original Greek storyline and the reboot’s Norse one. With the exception of the Last of Us and God of War sets, most of these drops just seem to feature one card with their respective games’ protagonists. The set will drop at 9 a.m. Pacific Time that Monday.

The full line-up includes:

  • The Last of Us Part I
  • The Last of Us Part II
  • Uncharted
  • God of War: Greek
  • God of War: Norse
  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • Ghost of Tsushima

Though it’s not surprising that Sony would want to spotlight its current stable of prestige action games, I’m bummed there’s not more classic PlayStation representation here. Give me Parappa the Rapper, you cowards. But that’s pretty par for the course these days with Sony. Even its upcoming concert series is leaning heavily into its new stuff. 

I don’t play Magic, but I did buy the Sonic cards they put out earlier this year just to get the Shadow the Hedgehog one. He’s sitting pretty on my shelf, so I guess I’ll also buy the Last of Us ones next month, to keep him company. You know, as long as they don’t sell out before it’s my turn in the queue.

It’s been a long wait, but Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 finally launches on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 21. Those eager to preorder the long-awaited follow-up to the immersive RPG from 2004 can grab one of the multiple physical and digital editions available now–including a $60 physical edition on PS5 and Xbox. The game is available at Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy. Preordering the game even unlocks a fun bit of bonus content that fans of the original Bloodlines will enjoy.

Preorder any version of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 to unlock the Bloodlines Nostalgia Jukebox. It’s not much, but it’s a fun extra for long-time fans of the series.

The Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 standard edition is the only physical edition of the game available. It includes the base game, plus the Bloodlines Nostalgia Jukebox if you preorder before October 21. You can preorder physical PS5 and Xbox Series X copies for $60 at Walmart and Best Buy. Digital preorders are also available on consoles and PC.

While the standard edition is the only physical version of the game, there are also multiple digital editions available that add additional in-game content. The first is the $70 Deluxe Edition, which has the base game and the Santa Monica Memoris DLC pack. The pack contains extra decoration items you can add to your in-game home, including:

  • Ankaran Sarcophagus
  • Neon Clan sign
  • Stop Sign
  • Voerman Sister Portrait

You can preorder the Deluxe Edition at the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, and Steam. For those who purchased the standard edition, you can also purchase the Santa Monica Memories pack separately for $12.

There’s also a $90 Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 Premium Edition available digitally on all platforms. This version of the game includes everything in the Deluxe Edition, plus an Expansion Pass that will grant players access to the upcoming Loose Canon and The Flower & The Flame story DLC packs launching in 2026.

Preorders are available at the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, and Steam. The Expansion DLC will also be available as a separate purchase for those who pick up one of the other versions.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 takes place in Seattle, with you stepping into the shoes of an elder vampire. You’ll get to join one of several clans in the region, before diving into a sprawling open world that gives you countless ways to forge your own story. Combat relies on both physical prowess and deadly vampiric powers–though finesse and talking your way through encounters is also a possibility in some scenarios.

If you’re itching to dive back into the Vampire: The Masquerade universe, you have plenty of time to play through the most recent release in the series, Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong. The narrative RPG is quite different from the upcoming Bloodlines 2, but it offers a unique storyline in the gothic horror world, and is available for cheap on most platforms.

$55 | Releases December 2

Though it won’t arrive until December, this hardcover book looks like it’ll be an excellent companion to the long-awaited video game. At over 200 pages, it provides a look at the game’s development, artwork, and overarching vision for its sprawling narrative. It’s a massive book (literally), and with dimensions of 12 inches by 9 inches, it could make a cool centerpiece for your game room or bookcase.

Published by Dark Horse Books, The Art of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is all but guaranteed to be high quality. So beyond developer commentary, concept art, and all sorts of Bloodlines 2 goodies, you’re getting a premium book that should be every bit as luxurious as its $55 suggests. Preordering at Amazon means you won’t be charged until the item ships, and you’ll be eligible for any discounts that may occur ahead of its release.
