Learning to scan with the Revopoint Miraco Part 1

by admin August 24, 2025

Do you have an interest in 3D scanning? Maybe you’ve got a project around the house that could use the ability to replicate a broken part and bring it back to life? Or maybe you want to be able to make a custom-fit holder or something similar? Well, these are exactly the ideas that were rolling around my head when I contacted Revopoint to talk to them about 3D scanning technologies. We’ve teamed up with them to check out the Miraco 3D, a stand-alone 3D scanner capable of handling scanning as small as the threads on a screw (and smaller!) and an entire Bell 222 helicopter, all in the same machine! The idea of 3D scanning has always intrigued me, but the perceived complexity has made me shy away more than once. Well, how about we take that step together? Today I’m kicking off an ongoing series where I’m going to take you from zero to at least proficient over the course of several months. Each video I’ll take you through my journey, with no re-shoots – if I make a mistake, I’m going to stop, learn, and correct it without deleting the mistake. As I learn, you’ll learn, and we can discover this fascinating world together.

Today’s video kicks things off with the first part of any journey – getting it out of the box! We’ll take a look at what’s inside as well as what each part is meant to do. In a few weeks, we’ll take our next step – getting the device software updated, installing the software on our PC, and learning how to calibrate. I’m using my crystal ball to look ahead a bit, but having had it out of the box for a bit, I’m guessing it won’t be nearly as difficult as it seems.

I’m really looking forward to sharing this with all of you, so join me – let’s learn how to 3D Scan with Revopoint!

Hollow Knight Silksong has devs so scared that they’re delaying their games

by admin August 24, 2025

Following Hollow Knight Silksong’s release date announcement, several developers who were planning to release their indie games before the big holiday game rush have delayed to 2026.

The prospect of being a big enough industry titan that your release forces others to delay their games is a level of respect few games earn. GTA 6 is the only other recent example that has caused mass delays, with it being a wrecking ball for 2025’s release calendar before it got delayed to 2026.

Article continues after ad

But, considering that the original Hollow Knight has now sold over 15 million copies and hype for Silksong is at a fever pitch, indie devs especially are feeling the pressure with a September 4 release date imminent.

Several developers have come out and said they’re delaying their games to clear the runway for Silksong, wanting to give players a chance to get through it before putting their title on the market.

Silksong is forcing other devs to delay their games

When it comes to indie games that don’t have a massive marketing budget behind them, putting enough hype behind the initial release is an absolute make-or-break moment. Word of mouth is arguably the best way for indie games to get noticed, but, if no one knows the game exists, there isn’t anyone to tell others how good the game is.

So, in order to give themselves the best chance of getting noticed and creating a game successful enough for them to continue game development as a career, some devs have decided not to risk competing with Silksong and opted to delay.

Aeterna Lucis‘ devs were arguably the most transparent, saying that the game is completely finished but that they’re choosing to delay into 2026 anyways.

“Our initial plan was to launch it this September, but after the announcement of Silksong, we are fully aware that our game wouldn’t have the visibility it deserves. Competing with a phenomenon of that scale would not only be unfair to our team’s effort, but also to you, the community, who expect to experience this adventure under the best possible conditions,” a statement from the developer reads.

Aeterna Lucis

But, instead of being mad about the change, they’re grateful to Hollow Knight developers Team Cherry and credited them with being an inspiration for Aeterna Lucis and their other games.

“There’s no need to wish [Team Cherry] luck—we know Silksong will be a success and a masterpiece. Instead of rivalry, what we feel is gratitude: thanks to them, the metroidvania genre is more alive than ever and, in fact, they were one of the main inspirations that led us to create Aeterna Noctis and the entire saga now in development.”

Faeland, an RPG that’s been in early access for almost 2 years, also delayed their 1.0 release and directly cited Silksong as the reason:

Faeland

“Our v1.0 launch was set for September 9, but with today’s announcement of Hollow Knight Silksong releasing on September 4, we’ve made the tough call to postpone our release.”

CloverPit, a rogue-lite slot machine game, was also delayed, again with a direct mention to Silksong.

Article continues after ad

“Some of you might already have guessed the reason for the delay: Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Article continues after ad

“The release date for Silksong was announced yesterday, and it’s only one day after CloverPit our original launch date. Silksong is the most anticipated and wishlisted game on all of Steam and we think people will love this game and play it right at launch (including us) but that also means it will overshadow all games launching close to it. So if we stick to our original date we would risk the launch of CloverPit a fair bit,” the devs explained.

CloverPit

“We poured our hearts into our little game so of course we want to give it the best possible shot. We hope you can understand – we’ll use the extra time of course to polish the game even further and we hope for your support at launch either way.”

Article continues after ad

These are just a few examples, and consist only of statements where the devs directly admitted that Silksong was the reason their game was delayed. Who knows how many other ways that its release has affected the games industry that aren’t as transparent.

Article continues after ad

Either way, it seems like a lot of devs and other folks working in the games industry will be taking a few days away from work to play Silksong. Probably including myself.

Deadlock’s latest update revives the game with massive player count increase

by admin August 24, 2025

After the initial player count boom that came with Deadlock Alpha access, the player count has steadily fallen. And, sure, it’s not publicly available yet, but the player count going from close to 200k at “launch” to around 10k before the latest update isn’t exactly ideal.

Deadlock has maintained a small yet loyal following through its lengthy Alpha. If you consider 10-15k players small, anyways. There’s pretty much never been a point where queues aren’t popping, and there are some people really grinding to learn ahead of the eventual release.

Article continues after ad

However, the average player moved on. Updates take months at this point, with the dev team generally shifting away from rapid changes to work on more substantial updates.

And, around 3 months after the last big update, the team really delivered. Between releasing 6 new heroes in the span of less than 2 weeks, new music, a UI overhaul, and, for those who haven’t played since last year, a completely new map. There’s a lot to love here, and players are Deadlocked in.

Deadlock earns players back with massive update

So, why are so many people returning to Deadlock all at once if the previous updates didn’t win them over?

At the time of writing, only three of the six revealed characters have been released. But that’s a key part of why player retention has been so high: Players get to vote for the next character they want, but they have to play matches in order to earn votes.

However, this wouldn’t mean anything if the game wasn’t fun. Fortunately, the new roster of heroes has players more engaged than ever.

Article continues after ad

The proposition of fun and exciting new characters combined with the ability to earn your way toward deciding who’s next seems to be a winning formula for player retention, but that’s not all. The UI, menus, music, and many of the character designs have had some massive quality of life improvements, especially if you’re someone who hasn’t played since last year.

Article continues after ad

Between the new map, an easier to access item system, 3 lanes instead of 4, and a whole lot of quality of life changes, it’s no surprise that players are hopping in and sticking around.

Article continues after ad

DeadlockThe Doorman is the newest Deadlock character at the time of writing, and he’s probably the closest thing we’re ever going to get to Portal 3.

Deadlock went from 14k peak players to around 28k in the day after the update, but it’s since catapulted all the way to 47k. This is the biggest peak Deadlock has had in months, and there are no signs of that momentum stopping.

While the game is nowhere close to a full release yet, Valve is putting their full force into making their vision for Deadlock a reality.

USA’s Gio Reyna joins Gladbach from Borussia Dortmund

by admin August 24, 2025

Jul 20, 2025, 06:26 PM ET

United States midfielder Gio Reyna has completed his transfer to Borussia Mönchengladbach from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund, the clubs announced Saturday.

Reyna, 22, has signed a three-year contract through the summer of 2028.

For Reyna, it means an end to his six-year stay at Dortmund, where he began his professional career after leaving New York City FC’s academy.

It represents a fresh start for Reyna after his initial sizable promise was stalled by a series of injuries and a struggle for first-team minutes.

“Borussia are a fantastic, big club,” Reyna said in a statement. “I’m delighted that the transfer has been able to be completed and am looking forward to getting to know everyone here, as well as tackling the upcoming games together.”

Reyna made just three starts in Germany’s Bundesliga last season having spent the second half of the previous campaign on loan at Premier League side Nottingham Forest.

While he was part of the Dortmund squad that reached the quarterfinals of this summer’s Club World Cup, Reyna made only one 12-minute substitute appearance. His participation in the tournament nonetheless meant he missed out on the U.S. men’s national team squad for the Concacaf Gold Cup.

Reyna, son of former U.S. midfielder Claudio Reyna, has won 32 caps for the USMNT and scored eight goals. With only a solitary substitute appearance since Mauricio Pochettino took over as coach last year, Reyna will now be hoping that the move to Gladbach can rejuvenate his career and earn him a place in the U.S. squad for next summer’s World Cup on home soil.

He joins a Gladbach side that finished 10th in the Bundesliga last season and kicks off the new campaign at home to Hamburg on Sunday.

“Gio brings plenty of experience with him, in addition to being a young player with plenty of potential,” said Roland Virkus, Borussia’s managing director for sport. “We have been monitoring him for a while now and are convinced that he has the qualities needed to help us on the pitch.

“He’s familiar with the Bundesliga and can play at a number of different positions in attack.”

Waterdogs

MVP contender Michael Sowers was adept with both hands this season, scoring nine goals right-handed and nine goals left-handed. The Whipsnakes used different strategies in their two games against him this season. In the first, he played the role of playmaker, with one goal and seven assists in Philly’s win; in the second, he scored four goals but had zero assists and Maryland took the victory.

CJ Kirst missed the first part of the season with injury, but put together back-to-back six-point outings recently. Four players have won an NCAA championship and professional championship in the same season; will he be No. 5?

Whipsnakes

Veteran attackman Rob Pannell is heating up at the right time. He scored two goals and had two assists in a fiery performance in Week 11 as the Whips dominated the Cannons in Boston. His first championship was in 2015. Will 2025 be his second?

Joe Nardella continues to be one of the best faceoff specialists in the league, and that’s been the case for some time now. Nardella is the career leader in playoff faceoff wins (167), and he’ll continue to pad that lead with every FO win this postseason.

Chaos

Carolina goalie Blaze Riorden is the best goalie in PLL history — and he has the numbers to back that up. His 202 saves are well ahead of second-place Jesse Schwartzman and Dillon Ward (both with 135).

Chaos rookies Owen Hiltz and Jackson Eicher have been rotating at attack and midfield based on which side of the field Carolina is attacking. Hiltz plays attack when the righty wing is nearest the substitution box, and Eicher plays attack when the lefty side is nearest the box. As attack, Hiltz has 10 goals and four assists; as a midfielder, he has six goals and seven assists. Eicher has 10 goals and one assist as attack, while he has eight goals and eight assists while playing midfield.

Redwoods

Ryder Garnsey has generated more than a few highlight-reel plays this season, and teammate Chris Kavanagh lauded his creativity in the news conference after Week 11: “Once he puts one hand on his stick you know something crazy is coming,” Kavanagh told reporters.

Speaking of Kavanagh, the Notre Dame product led all rookies this season with 37 points, well ahead of second-place Aidan Carroll (Maryland), with 29.

German politicians officially open Gamescom 2025

by admin August 23, 2025

German political guests of honor officially opened Gamescom on August 20, 2025, with speakers highlighting the importance of the event and the games industry.

Among the political guests of honour were Dorothee Bär, Germany’s federal minister responsible for video games; Hendrik Wüst, minister-president of North Rhine-Westphalia; and Henriette Reker, mayor of Cologne and chairwoman of the supervisory board of Koelnmesse.

In their speeches, speakers highlighted the importance of the games industry and Gamescom, while emphasising policymakers’ goal for Germany to become one of the world’s leading games locations.

“The gaming sector holds great cultural, economic, and technological potential, impressive proof of which is on display at gamescom year after year, ” said Bär. “Strengthening the international competitiveness of our gaming location is important to me so that we can all benefit more from the potential of digital games in the future.

“To do so, games funding must be plannable and reliable. As a first step, funding will therefore be more than doubled. Looking to the future, we are working to introduce tax incentives, as has already been done in other countries.”

Hendrik Wüst said: “With outstanding developer studios and the world’s top event for video games, North Rhine-Westphalia is the [number one] games state. The long-term commitment of gamescom to Cologne this year is a strong signal for North Rhine-Westphalia. It’s where innovations are developed, which drive the entire economy forward.

“Video games create jobs, promote creative thinking and connect people across borders. North Rhine-Westphalia is leading the way and has developed a new, modern and market-oriented games funding guideline.

“It focuses specifically on small, up-and-coming projects, as start-ups are crucial to ensuring that the games ecosystem grows and remains vibrant. This focus complements federal funding in the best possible way. The new federal government has finally got things moving in the games sector.”

Johnny Walker upsets Zhang Mingyang at UFC Fight Night in Shanghai

by admin August 23, 2025

Aug 23, 2025, 09:24 AM ET

Johnny Walker spoiled Zhang Mingyang’s homecoming party just as it was getting started early Saturday.

Headlining the first UFC event in China in six years, Walker ended a skid of two straight knockout losses with a shocking knockout of his own in a comeback against the Chinese light heavyweight in the main event of UFC Fight Night in Shanghai.

The 33-year-old Brazilian’s second-round TKO ended a 12-fight winning streak by Zhang, who had not dropped an MMA bout since 2019 and had not even seen a second round since 2018.

Zhang was fully in control throughout Round 1, landing some heavy shots and putting Walker on retreat. But Walker made it to the horn and came out for the second round with a different plan of attack: kicks to the calf. He landed a solid one that clearly affected Zhang, then connected with a second that collapsed the powerful striker, who came in riding a streak of nine straight first-round knockouts. From there, Walker (22-9, 1 NC) pounced on his damaged opponent for the ground-and-pound finish at 2:37 of the round.

“My kick is awesome, right?” Walker said.

He also briefly addressed the crowd with a few words of Chinese and gave respect to Zhang (19-7).

“A tough fighter from China, a lot of straight wins,” he said. “It’s a really good experience to fight a guy that’s very tough. You see, I’m durable. I got some punches in the face today and I keep coming, And then I got him. This is MMA. Amazing, right?”

Walker is unranked by ESPN but No. 13 in the official UFC rankings. Zhang sits one spot behind him.

The co-main event was a clash of ranked featherweights, but the bout was fought at a 153-pound catchweight because Brian Ortega was unable to make the division’s 146-pound weight limit.

Even given the catchweight, Ortega showed little resistance against Aljamain Sterling, who cruised to a unanimous decision over five dominant rounds (50-45, 50-45, 50-45).

It was noticeable right from the start that Sterling (25-5), a former bantamweight champion, was too quick for the two-time featherweight title challenger. Ortega (16-5, 1 NC) landed only 7% of his strikes (2 of 28) in the first round and was a step behind the rest of the way.

Sterling, No. 9 in the ESPN rankings at 145 pounds, won his second fight in his past three after dropping his title in 2023, a loss that ended a nine-fight winning streak. For the fourth-ranked Ortega, it was his second straight loss and his fifth in his past seven fights.

The fight card also included a matchup of heavyweights in the ESPN rankings, in which No. 6 Sergei Pavlovich took charge in the third round to get the better of ninth-ranked Waldo Cortes-Acosta (30-27, 29-28, 29-28). Pavlovich has won eight of his past 10 fights but lost to the champion, Tom Aspinall, less than two years ago.
