If you want to shake things up in your next BitLife game or have a particular challenge to complete, then you may want to look into summoning some ghosts and ghouls.

Here is everything you need to know about how to summon ghosts in BitLife.

How to summon or exorcise ghosts in BitLife

Did you know you can have your own resident ghouls? For your BitLife character to have a hauntingly good time, you will want to move into a haunted house. There are many different haunted homes on the market including:

  • Haunted Villa
  • Haunted Victorian Home
  • Haunted Mansion
  • Haunted Farm
  • Haunted Ranch
  • Haunted Trailer
  • Haunted Row House

Screenshot by Dot Esports

Most haunted houses are not too expensive, thanks to the hauntedness of the building, so you can buy it cheaply, exorcise the ghost, and sell it to make a profit.

After purchasing a haunted house, you can summon or exorcise the ghost by going to Assets, then scrolling down to Properties, and finding your haunted house. At the end of your haunted house list is the Spirits option.

Select Spirits and then Summon to try and speak with the ghost. It may not work in the first few attempts, but keep trying, and eventually you will summon the spirit. When successful, you will have a ghost “encounter,” where you’ll have a few options to choose from:

  • Run for my life.
  • Let out a blood curdling scream.
  • Call the police.
  • Try to stay calm.

The choice is entirely up to you, and nothing really happens either way. If you bother the ghost too much, you may have a more violent encounter with the ghost, where they attack you physically. This can be fatal, so you will have to hope you will survive it!

Next up, why not find out how to complete the rest of the Mistress of the Dark challenge, or how to work for Candywriter and become a BitLife dev!

The Strangers director’s favorite horror is one of the most haunting movies ever made

by admin September 30, 2025

Renny Harlin, the director behind The Strangers trilogy, has opened up about his favorite horror movie – and it’s one of the most haunting films ever made.

The Strangers – Chapter 2 landed in cinemas on Friday (September 26), continuing the three-movie saga as Maya (Madelaine Petsch) fights for survival against the three masked killers.

All three movies were shot back-to-back, with Chapter 3 releasing next year. Of course, the killers were first introduced in Bryan Bertino’s 2008 original film, which made our list of the best horror movies of all time.

Harlin is no stranger (pun intended) to horror, having helmed the likes of Exorcist: The Beginning and A Nightmare on Elm Street 4. So, when Dexerto caught up with the filmmaker ahead of the release of The Strangers – Chapter 2, we asked him about his top genre pick.

The Strangers – Chapter 2 director Renny Harlin reveals top horror pick

Although it was difficult to pinpoint a specific title, Harlin urged horror fans to check out Nicolas Roeg’s 1973 classic, Don’t Look Now.

“ That’s always a tough question because there are, of course, so many. You can go to the classics, you can go to Hitchcock’s Psycho and say that’s the ultimate horror movie,” the filmmaker told us.

“But somehow I go to something – maybe it was because I was a young teenager when I saw this movie and it had a really strong impact on me – and it was Nicolas Roeg’s Don’t Look Now with Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie.

“It takes place in Venice, Italy, and it’s just always stuck with me as this really amazing, atmospheric, psychological exploration of grief and relationships and [the idea that] if you don’t let go of the past, the past will come and hunt you down.”

Don’t Look Now is a haunting adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s short story of the same name.

Lionsgate

As Harlin mentioned, the plot follows a grieving couple who travel to Venice after the death of their young daughter. There, they encounter two elderly sisters, one of whom claims to be a psychic delivering warnings from beyond the grave.

“I always recommend it to people, especially the younger generation who haven’t necessarily even heard of it,” Harlin added. “I think it’s worth checking out.”

Not only is it credited as one of the best horror movies of all time, but one of the best movies full stop thanks to its chilling atmosphere, impeccable cinematography, and truly shocking twist ending.

If you want to give it a watch or revisit, Don’t Look Now is available to rent or buy on all major on-demand platforms. Meanwhile, The Strangers – Chapter 2 is in cinemas now.

You can also check out the new movies streaming this month and the scariest horrors based on true stories.

Grading college football’s new coordinators

by admin September 30, 2025

  • Adam RittenbergSep 30, 2025, 06:52 AM ET

    Close

College football reporter; joined ESPN in 2008. Graduate of Northwestern University.

When Miami fell short of the College Football Playoff despite having the nation’s top quarterback and offense in 2024, coach Mario Cristobal needed a new voice for the defense and found one in Corey Hetherman, a respected coordinator from Minnesota whose strong work had gone mostly under the radar.

When Florida State crashed out to a 2-10 finish in 2024, coach Mike Norvell’s full sweep of the program included two attention-grabbing coordinator hires in Gus Malzahn (offense) and Tony White (defense).

Hetherman, Malzahn and White aren’t the only reasons this week’s Miami-Florida State game has regained some juice, but their impact has been noticeable. Miami ranks ninth nationally in points allowed (11.5 PPG) and tied for eighth against the run (76.3 YPG). Florida State leads the nation in both scoring (53 PPG) and total offense (600 YPG), and its defense entered Friday’s game at Virginia ranked in the top 25 in several major categories.

Other teams also are witnessing the impact of first-year coordinators, from positive to concerning to somewhere in between. Oklahoma’s offseason makeover on offense included adding not only quarterback John Mateer from Washington State, but also his playcaller there in Ben Arbuckle. Joey McGuire brought in playcallers Shiel Wood (defense) and Mack Leftwich (offense) to Texas Tech to accelerate the ascent of an improved roster with championship aspirations.

“You’re like, ‘Hey, we’re not rebuilding. You’re coming in and we’ve been in a bowl game the last three years, won two of the three,'” McGuire told ESPN. “‘You need to understand we’re putting all this money in. You’ve got to be ready to go.'”

Meanwhile, Notre Dame is still trying to reach its defensive standard under first-year coordinator Chris Ash.

Five full weeks of the 2025 season have provided enough evidence to evaluate how the first-year coordinators are performing. Here are my nearly midterm grades for coordinators who are shining, struggling or somewhere in between. (Note: I evaluated only coordinators joining returning head coaches, as opposed to those on entirely new staffs.)

Miami defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman

After Miami blew leads and allowed a total of 83 points in losses to Syracuse and Iowa State to close the 2024 season, Cristobal made a necessary coordinator change and hired Hetherman, who at Minnesota had overseen the No. 5 total defense and No. 9 scoring defense in the FBS.

Hetherman inherited an undeniably talented group but had to maximize its ability. Established stars such as Rueben Bain Jr. are thriving — 2 sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble — and transfers Mohamed Toure (Rutgers) and Jakobe Thomas (Tennessee) have helped right away.

Miami is bottling up the run, allowing just 2.6 yards per rush with a long of 30 yards. Take away Notre Dame’s 17-point fourth quarter in the opener, and Miami has allowed 29 points in the other 15 quarters it has played.

“He’s an elite teacher, and his care factor, it just screams out of him,” Cristobal told ESPN of Hetherman. “Our guys have learned a lot of football. They’re playing with physicality and playing fast, and communicating at a much higher level. We’re just consistently getting better on that side of the ball.”

Grade: A

Ohio State defensive coordinator Matt Patricia

Jim Knowles’ departure from the national champion Buckeyes to Big Ten rival Penn State seemed like a real blow, and Ohio State hiring Patricia as his replacement seemed like a head-scratcher. Patricia had not worked in college football since 2003 and last served as a defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots in 2017. Despite winning three Super Bowls with the Patriots, Patricia arrived in Columbus with some question marks.

The play of the Ohio State defense has answered any questions about the hiring of Matt Patricia. Jay LaPrete/AP

He made an excellent first impression by guiding the Buckeyes’ defense to a near shutout of Texas and quarterback Arch Manning in the season opener. Texas didn’t score until 3:28 remained, and Manning struggled against Patricia’s scheme. Ohio State’s defense delivered an arguably more impressive performance Saturday at Washington, keeping the Huskies out of the end zone and holding them to 15 first downs and 234 total yards.

Despite inheriting a unit with mostly new starters in the front seven, Patricia has watched Caden Curry, Arvell Reese, Kayden McDonald and others get off to fast starts. The Buckeyes lead the FBS in fewest points allowed (5.5 PPG) and rank eighth in allowing 3.99 yards per play.

“The guys just love Matt,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day told ESPN this spring. “He’s been a defensive coordinator for Super Bowl teams. He’s been an offensive [assistant]. He’s been very much involved, like a GM. One of the reasons why we brought him in was because of his background of doing multiple things on defense that fit the skill set of the guys that we have.”

Linebacker Sonny Styles echoed Day, saying of Patricia, “He’s able to adapt to whatever personnel he has. You get to experience a lot of different things, and you get to display a multiplicity of abilities.”

Grade: A

Texas Tech defensive coordinator Shiel Wood and offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich

The offseason buzz at Texas Tech revolved around its portal additions and the cost to bring them in, but the new playcallers McGuire would hire also impacted an all-in season for the Red Raiders. He had to replace offensive coordinator Zach Kittley, who became the youngest head coach (33) in the FBS when he left for Florida Atlantic. Texas Tech also needed a new coordinator for a defense that had slipped to 126th nationally in yards allowed and 121st in points allowed.

McGuire looked within the league for Wood, who was at Houston and had previous coordinator experience at Tulane, Troy and Army. Wood inherited a unit returning standouts such as Jacob Rodriguez but also featuring an influx of high-priced transfers, especially in the front seven, including Romello Height (Georgia Tech), David Bailey (Stanford) and Lee Hunter (UCF). So far, Wood is pulling all of the right strings, as Texas Tech is allowing 11.3 points per game and just 3.7 yards per play, both ranking in the top 10. Rodriguez has been all over the field, and Bailey and Height have combined for six sacks and 11 quarterback pressures.

“I wanted a guy that was a multiple, that wasn’t just a three-down guy, wasn’t just a four-down guy, who could fit our current players in and then the guys we were going to bring in,” McGuire said. “And I wanted somebody extremely detailed and organized. If anybody asks me what Shiel Wood is like, I’d say he’s extremely detailed and organized and then, boom, he’s got all kinds of juice for the players to rally around.”

Leftwich is a lifelong Texan who never worked at Texas Tech but had links to the school and the Mike Leach Air Raid legacy through Eric Morris, whom Leftwich worked under at Incarnate Word. Like Kittley, Leftwich is young (30) but accomplished and is working with a mix of returnees, including quarterback Behren Morton, and several notable offensive line transfers. Texas Tech is averaging 52 points per game and 7.8 yards per play.

“I wanted to still keep our Texas Tech identity whenever it comes to offense, but also, there’s so many little additions to what he does that makes it really tough to defend,” McGuire said. “One thing that makes Mack different, you’ve got some of the wide splits like Art [Briles] used to do at Baylor. You got some run-and-shoot and the stuff we do. Then, at the end of the day, his dad’s an offensive line coach, so he’ll tell you, we don’t run the football, he’s not welcome to Thanksgiving.”

Grade: A

Florida State offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn

Norvell wasn’t going to give up offensive playcalling to just anybody. Malzahn mentored Norvell early in his coaching career, and the chance to reunite at Florida State made sense for both.

“I feel like I got one of the best playcallers in the country,” Norvell told ESPN this summer.

Editor’s Picks

The Malzahn move paid off right away as Florida State consistently stayed a step ahead of Alabama in a 31-17 upset to open the season. FSU averaged 6.1 yards per play and converted 5 of 12 third-down chances and both of its fourth-down opportunities, including a fourth-and-1 from the Seminoles’ 34-yard line with a 7-point lead in the fourth quarter.

Florida State is averaging 53 points per game and 8.2 yards per play under Malzahn, whose creativeness has repeatedly shown up. There were some missteps in Friday’s loss at Virginia, as Florida State committed three turnovers and couldn’t convert several opportunities in Cavaliers territory. But Malzahn’s usage of quarterback Tommy Castellanos, wide receiver Duce Robinson and others has been effective.

Grade: A-

Utah offensive coordinator Jason Beck

The Beck-Devon Dampier package deal from New Mexico didn’t generate as much national attention as the Arbuckle-Mateer pairing at Oklahoma, but it had the potential to be just as significant, given Utah’s offensive struggles the past two seasons. Under Beck, Dampier earned first-team All-Mountain West honors in 2024 and led the league in both total offense (3,934 yards) and yards per carry (7.52).

“Me and my defensive coordinator, Morgan Scalley, who’s the head coach-in-waiting, conducted a national search, and when all was said and done, we both were on the exact same page: This is the guy,” head coach Kyle Whittingham said of Beck this summer. “Then, when Devon expressed interest to transfer by going in the portal, we said, ‘It’s natural, it’s a natural fit. Two for one.'”

Utah’s offense started strong, averaging 45.7 points in the first three weeks. Dampier was an instant success, recording seven touchdown passes during the span and twice eclipsing 80 rushing yards. But the Utes struggled in their first major test against Texas Tech, as Dampier twice was intercepted and didn’t account for a touchdown. The Utes did not reach the end zone until 10:22 remained and were outgained 484-263 in a 34-10 home loss.

Dampier and the Utah offense bounced back nicely Saturday at West Virginia — 48 points, 532 yards, 33 first downs, career-high four passing touchdowns for Dampier — but the next two games against Arizona State (home) and BYU (road) will reveal a lot.

Grade: B+

Oklahoma offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle

The Sooners looked to the Palouse and Washington State to fix their slumping offense, adding Arbuckle and quarterback Mateer in the top offseason package deal. Arbuckle was just 27 when he landed the OC job at WSU, becoming the youngest coordinator in the Power 5 at the time. He helped develop Cam Ward and Mateer, lightly recruited quarterbacks from his native state of Texas, into national stars.

Ben Arbuckle “brings out the best in our guys,” says Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables. Kevin Jairaj/Imagn Images

Arbuckle and Mateer, who is expected to miss about a month with a broken bone in his right hand, have helped the Sooners to a 4-0 start that includes notable home wins against Michigan and Auburn. Oklahoma isn’t an offensive juggernaut, ranking 59th nationally in scoring, but the Sooners are averaging 305 passing yards per game and have scored on all 17 of their trips to the red zone.

“He’s done a fantastic job from leadership, energy, developing an identity,” coach Brent Venables said of Arbuckle. “He’s a tough guy, demands great discipline and accountability, brings out the best in our guys, knows what he wants to do.”

Grade: B+

Florida State defensive coordinator Tony White

The Malzahn move made waves throughout the sport because power-conference head coaches rarely leave for coordinator spots, but Florida State’s hiring of White also qualified as a significant coup. White had performed well at Nebraska, an ascending program, but left to try to revive an FSU team that had slipped to 87th nationally in points allowed.

Like Malzahn, White had an immediate effect. White comes from the Rocky Long coaching tree and employs a variation of Long’s 3-3-5 scheme. Florida State was the more physical defense in the opening win against Alabama, holding the Tide to 87 rushing yards while allowing just 6 of 17 third-down conversions and 2 of 5 fourth-down conversions.

Players such as safeties Earl Little Jr. and Ashlynd Barker have shined under White.

“One of the things that’s most attractive for me bringing him here, is that you’ve seen so many different variations, the philosophy, the mindset, really it’s the style of play that I love more than anything else,” Norvell told ESPN. “He does a great job utilizing personnel and showcasing his playmakers, but the style of play is something that definitely holds true.”

White’s grade certainly was higher before Friday’s loss at Virginia, which often bullied Florida State’s defensive front despite being down several offensive linemen. Virginia converted 7 of 13 third-down chances and both of its fourth-down opportunities and scored 16 more points (46) than FSU had allowed in its first three games combined.

Grade: B+

Arizona defensive coordinator Danny Gonzales

When coach Brent Brennan’s much-anticipated first season at Arizona flopped, he replaced both primary coordinators and promoted Gonzales, the team’s linebackers coach and special teams coordinator, to oversee the defense. Gonzales had defensive coordinator experience from San Diego State and Arizona State before becoming head coach at New Mexico.

Despite Saturday’s reality-check loss at Iowa State, Arizona has made some progress on both sides of the ball.

The Wildcats have gone from 108th in scoring defense in 2024 to 25th, and from 105th in total defense to 17th. Led by Genesis Smith, six players already have interceptions this season.

“I’ve had to coach against Danny Gonzalez defenses for lots of years, so there was zero hesitation about what I thought he was capable of doing,” Brennan told ESPN. “Everybody’s on the same page. The standard is extremely high for how hard we play and how people execute.”

Grade: B+

Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Blake Gideon

Brent Key made a defensive coordinator change midway through his first year, then lost Tyler Santucci to the NFL after 2024, so he had an important choice to make ahead of a big 2025 season. Gideon had impressive credentials as a former Texas player and assistant, but his only coordinator experience came on special teams with Houston and Ole Miss.

So far, Gideon looks like a strong choice. Georgia Tech is allowing 190.4 pass yards per game and has nine defenders with multiple tackles for loss, led by senior defensive tackle Jordan van den Berg. The team is trying to become the first Georgia Tech defense since 2006 to allow fewer than 20 points per game.

Although the defense had a shaky start Saturday against Wake Forest, it allowed only six second-half points and secured the game-clinching interception on a 2-point try in overtime.

“They’ve taken on Blake’s personality,” Key told ESPN this spring. “He’s a fiery, roughneck guy. The first time I talked to him, we talked for an hour and 30, hour and 45 minutes, and just kind of hit it off. Then when he came and presented, it was very uncut, raw, just, ‘This is who I am. This is what I do, just how we’re going to do it.’ He’s been a really good addition.”

Grade: B

Penn State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles

Knowles is a difficult eval at this point. Penn State has faced only one significant — or even moderate — test and came up short Saturday against Oregon. The Nittany Lions allowed a total of 17 points in their first three games but faced the No. 90 and No. 130 offenses in the FBS in Florida International and Nevada, as well as FCS Villanova. Given the personnel Penn State brought back on defense, anything less than domination at home would sound the alarms.

Penn State made the biggest splash in the coordinator market — bringing Knowles to his home state from a national championship team within the Big Ten — specifically for games like Saturday night’s. Knowles’ defense started very strong, holding Oregon to three points in the first 42 minutes. But then the Ducks mounted consecutive touchdown drives of 80 and 75 yards.

The Nittany Lions had a chance to win in the first overtime after striking first, but they couldn’t stop Dante Moore, who then fired the game-winning touchdown pass in the second extra session. Penn State never sacked Moore or forced a turnover and finished with just one tackle for loss.

Knowles is arguably the nation’s best defensive architect, and Penn State should be fine on that side of the ball. But the grade is weighted down by the loss to Oregon.

Grade: B-

Arizona offensive coordinator Seth Doege

The Wildcats finished 114th nationally in scoring last season despite having a top-10 NFL draft pick in wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, quarterback Noah Fifita and others. Brennan brought in Doege, a former Texas Tech quarterback under Mike Leach who helped Marshall to a Sun Belt championship in his only season as offensive coordinator. Fifita has been solid under Doege so far, averaging 241.3 passing yards per game with eight touchdowns and two interceptions.

Arizona’s run game has surged with Ismail Mahdi and Quincy Craig combining to average 7.3 yards per carry. The Iowa State loss certainly was a setback, as Fifita twice was picked off, but Arizona still had decent overall numbers (20 first downs, 360 total yards).

“When we went through the process of interviewing some people, Seth really stood out with his confidence, his command of what you know he wants to do schematically, and then his willingness to adapt and adjust according to the strengths of your personnel,” Brennan said. “He and Noah have built an incredible relationship. Coach Doege played the position, played it at a high level, and he himself had multiple coaches, so he’s able to kind of walk Noah through the process of all those things.”

Grade: B-

Michigan offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey

Although Lindsey had never coached in the North and lacked any connections to Sherrone Moore and the Michigan staff, his hiring still made some sense because of his track record with quarterbacks and the passing game. Michigan’s passing game finished 2024 ranked above only the service academies — Navy, Air Force and Army — and needed someone to revive the passing attack and mentor freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood, the nation’s No. 1 recruit.

Michigan has improved a bit and Underwood has flashed brilliance, but the freshman was a combined 21-of-46 for 247 passing yards in road games against Oklahoma (loss) and Nebraska (win). The Wolverines are running the ball very well with Justice Haynes and Jordan Marshall, but ultimately their success this season hinges on Underwood’s development and his ability to be a big factor against the tough opponents still upcoming, including USC, Washington, Michigan State and Ohio State.

Grade: B-

Clemson defensive coordinator Tom Allen

Despite winning another ACC title last season, Clemson’s defense had become ordinary, finishing 42nd nationally in points allowed and 85th against the run. A new voice was needed and Allen, who helped Penn State to the CFP semifinal in his only season as coordinator, made a lot of sense. Allen and coach Dabo Swinney connected very well, and Allen had spent some time in the region as a high school coach in Florida and later as South Florida’s defensive coordinator.

The defense certainly hasn’t been the biggest reason Clemson sits at 1-3, outside the CFP picture and most likely the ACC race. Allen’s group kept things close in an opening loss to LSU, allowing only three points in the first 26 minutes. Clemson struggled to stop Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King in a Week 3 loss, but its overall defensive performance wasn’t bad. But the defense struggled from the start Sept. 20 against Syracuse, surrendering 24 first-half points and 433 yards.

Clemson’s bigger problems seem to be with quarterback Cade Klubnik and the offense, but a defense filled with future NFL players needs a breakthrough soon.

Grade: C-

Notre Dame defensive coordinator Chris Ash

Ash was a somewhat surprising choice to replace Al Golden, the 2024 Broyles Award winner (nation’s top assistant) who returned to the Cincinnati Bengals as defensive coordinator. Although Ash had notable credentials — former Rutgers head coach, former defensive coordinator at four Power 4 programs — he hadn’t overseen a college defense since Texas in 2020.

“[The 2024 season] is over, the group of players is not the same and to just say we’re going to be able to do the exact same thing, probably not the right approach,” Ash told ESPN this spring. “To say we’re going to completely change everything was not the right approach, either. Let’s continue to build on the things that have been done. Let’s blend it with some things that we might need to do to fit our personnel, and then we take off and go.”

Unfortunately for Ash and the Irish, the defense saw a regression through its first three games. Notre Dame surrendered 41 points, 488 yards and 21.2 yards per completion in a home loss to Texas A&M — and constantly had Aggies wide receivers running free — then allowed four scoring drives of 58 yards or longer against Purdue.

Head coach Marcus Freeman has continued to back Ash, saying he won’t strip away playcalling duties and that the staff collectively must figure out why the unit isn’t executing correctly. The defense responded nicely Saturday against Taylen Green and a potent Arkansas offense, which finished with just 13 points and 15 first downs while turning over the ball twice.

Grade: D+

UCLA offensive coordinator Tino Sunseri

Sunseri was the only on-field assistant from Indiana’s 2024 team to leave, but the move made sense, as he became the primary offensive coordinator for the first time in his coaching career. The 36-year-old from a notable coaching family landed with a UCLA program that made the biggest splash in the spring transfer portal, landing quarterback Nico Iamaleava from CFP participant Tennessee.

But the excitement around UCLA’s season quickly faded. The Bruins were held to 10 points in two of their first three games, lopsided losses to Utah and New Mexico. Iamaleava had three touchdowns and three interceptions in the span, and only one Bruins player had a reception of longer than 21 yards. UCLA’s woes in the run game preceded Sunseri, but the team is averaging only 124.3 yards per game on the ground (105th nationally) with Iamaleava as the only player with more than 200 rushing yards for the season.

The winless Bruins have reached 20 points just once in their first four games.

Former TT Games head takes on Peter Pan

Back in 2020, UK games industry veteran Tom Stone stepped down from his position as managing director at the Lego games maker TT Games.

Having spent almost 18 years at the helm of the studio – and before that, working at Lego Interactive, Electronic Arts, and Giant Interactive (which merged with Traveller’s Tales to form TT Games) – he departed to do something new.

To start with, this took the form of becoming the chair of FuturLab (the maker of Powerwash Simulator) and acting as managing director for the venture capital firm Juno Capital Partners.

Tom Stone, Second Star Games

Then, in Christmas 2024, Stone had a conversation with The Blair Partnership and Great Ormond Street Hospital. The former is a media agency that manages franchises such as Harry Potter; it had been appointed by the latter to develop the Peter Pan and Neverland IP in the video games space.

Back in 1929, author JM Barrie granted the rights to Peter Pan to Great Ormond Street. Although the IP is now in the public domain, the hospital receives royalties from its commercial use.

Thus, Second Star Games was born. The name itself, for those who know, is a telltale sign of what IP the studio is working on. In the Disney animated movie, Peter gives Wendy the directions to Neverland with the famous line: “Second star to the right and straight on ’til morning.”

Let’s go round again

The venture is staffed by some of Stone’s former colleagues from TT Games, including lead game designer Andrew Holt, art director Nicola Daly and head of engineering Chris Stanforth. The last piece of the puzzle was funding: Stone is putting some of his own money into the venture, but the majority of the investment has come from Grahame Chilton, who helped fund 2005’s Lego Star Wars: The Video Game. The company is still weighing up whether to partner with a publisher or go it alone.

“We could have made fewer games slightly better”

Tom Stone, Second Star Games

While Second Star Games definitely has an element of bringing the band back together, Stone wants to do things slightly differently this time.

“I think we’re going to take a breath and look up occasionally,” he says. “When we were making the Lego games, it was intense. It was blood, sweat and tears. I loved every single moment of it, but upon reflection, we could have made fewer games slightly better and sold probably the same number of units that we sold.”

Though TT Games saw wild success with its series of Lego games, there were some at the studio who were unhappy with its culture. An investigation by Polygon in 2022 painted a picture of a workforce under relentless pressure and crunch, at least on Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. To his credit, Stone is reported to have held meetings to find out how staff felt and tried to rectify the situation before he departed the company.

“It was a pretty tough 15, 16, 17 years we had at TT. We were on a mission. We were focused. We achieved incredible things,” Stone says.

“Everything in life is a trade; people worked incredibly hard and the games were phenomenally successful. I don’t think everyone complained that it was a tough culture. As happens, there were a number of people who justifiably and rightly said it was a tough environment; their voices were louder than the people who were saying they enjoyed working there and loved making Lego games. Their voices weren’t heard so much.”

Despite his earlier reflection that he wants his new studio to make fewer games slightly better, Stone says that in order to do extraordinary things, developers must be open to tough and challenging work.

“We’re currently a team of 18 full-time employees. Everyone’s the same. We’re all in this boat together. Everyone knows each other. We don’t want an HR department. Everyone is there to support one another in building this game together,” Stone says.

“It’s going to be tough and challenging because we’re setting ourselves incredibly high goals. We had a meeting last week in the studio, where we agreed on a particular design feature, which is going to be very, very challenging to achieve.

“If we are not going to do stuff like that, what’s the point of doing it? If we aren’t going to break through and make this game truly memorable, then why bother? Everyone is on board. Everyone knows we are going to set ourselves some really, really high bar challenges, and everyone wants to do it.”

A changed world

At last official count back in 2019, the Lego games made by TT had sold north of 200 million copies (Stone reckons now it’s closer to 380 or 390 million). There’s no denying that the franchise has been hugely successful. But Stone and co are mindful of the fact that the games industry has changed wildly since 2005, especially when it comes to younger audiences.

“We want to do something really special. We’re aware that we’re launching into an entirely different market now. In 2005, there was no Roblox, no Minecraft, no Rocket League, no Fortnite,” he says.

“We know that the age group we are aiming at – five through 13 years old – is engaged in one of those games. Obviously, it’s going to be a challenge to have them look up and turn their head and say: ‘There’s a game over there I’d really love to play,’ because they are so engaged in those other games.

“Back in 2005, we were releasing into a physical goods, console-led market, but with no backdrop of people being absorbed by other games that they are playing. Now that’s different. That’s the key change. The other major change is discoverability – there are so many games being released. Unless you have an IP, it’s quite hard for people to discover your game.”

Working on licensed IP has also changed a great deal in the last 20 years. Companies appear to be more relaxed than they were in the past when it comes to their intellectual property and are more open to video games in general.

“Licensors now realise the power of video games and that we can actually enhance and grow and build the intellectual property by making an amazing game,” Stone explains.

“The magic of Lego added to any one of the franchises that we made helped give that other franchise a slight lift. It’s a symbiotic relationship, right? As Harry Potter gave Lego a lift, Lego gave Harry Potter a lift. It just expressed it in new, different, and interesting ways.

“Consumers who love those intellectual properties are always ready for a new treatment and a new way of looking at Harry, a new way of looking at Lord of the Rings, whatever the franchise might be.”

Thoroughbred stable

Across its history, TT Games worked on everything from Star Wars to The Lord of the Rings to Marvel and DC properties. Stone has similar aims for Second Star; he wants the studio to have a range of intellectual properties in its repertoire.

Neverland concept art | Image credit: Second Star Games

“The first is Neverland and the adventures of Peter Pan. Once we announced the studio, we actually had quite a lot of inbound interest, asking whether we’d be interested in working on this IP or that piece of IP. Obviously, we will be selective and thoughtful. We have to be mindful that we can’t do it all at the same time, but the goal is to build out a stable of expertise in this young gamer space.

“I imagine 100 years ago, the family would gather around the fire and share stories. They would have that shared moment of family community. What I’m imagining now is the family gathering around a screen in co-op mode, playing a game together, watching it being played and Peter Pan is that magnet.

“Peter Pan is the fire that everyone is watching, while they all gather around the television together. The vision is to build a stable, bring the thoroughbreds in, and have everyone playing together around a screen.”

He concludes: “When we introduced co-op play into the first Lego Star Wars game, it made such a difference. It was such a breakthrough moment; people were able to play together in a social cooperative way. We are going to build on that.”

How to get Tier 5 gear in Destiny 2

by admin September 30, 2025

One of the biggest changes made to Destiny 2 in The Edge of Fate expansion is the introduction of loot tiers. Weapons and armor come in five tiers, with higher tiers providing better stats, and Tier 5 even having unique cosmetic treatment.

Similar to Adept weapons and Artifice armor prior to the expansion, Tier 5 is the ultimate goal in this grind. However, while getting Adepts and Artifice gear was fairly straightforward, getting Tier 5 gear is an extremely long-term commitment.

Here’s everything you need to know about how to get higher-tier gear in Destiny 2.

How to get Tier 5 weapons and armor in Destiny 2

Getting higher-tier gear in Destiny 2 is tied directly to the Power grind, except for the Desert Perpetual raid. The higher your Power level, the better the loot. Tier 5 drops appear closer to 400 Power, which is a substantial grind you won’t be able to achieve overnight.

To get Tier 5 drops consistently, you need to be closer to 500 Power, but there are a few things you can do to get additional higher-tier drops throughout leveling.

Play activities in the Portal

Look out for Bonus Drops in the Portal. Screenshot by Dot Esports

As you increase your Power, the reward packages in the Portal will get better. Play activities with enough modifiers to get you to the A rank reward package, and eventually, you’ll start getting higher-tier gear. Some of the fastest activities to grind are Caldera and K1 Logistics Solo Ops, but you can also target activities with Bonus Drops.

You may also get occasional Prime drops as a completion reward. Those are rare drops of a higher tier and Power than your usual loot. Tier 5 gear will first appear in the Portal at 400+ Power as Prime drops. As you climb higher, you’ll be able to get Tier 5 drops from your main Reward Package.

Complete Conquests

There are eight total Tier 5 drops. Screenshot by Dot Esports

Conquests replaced Grandmaster Nightfalls in The Edge of Fate. You can still play on Grandmaster difficulty in the Portal, but the Conqueror title can now only be progressed via Conquests. There are 12 Conquests across three difficulties (Expert, Master, Grandmaster, and Ultimate), and you can find them in the Seasonal Hub.

Depending on the difficulty, you can get Tier 3, Tier 4, and Tier 5 rewards with a significant Power boost by completing the respective Conquest. The main downside is that Conquests are a one-time activity. Unlike Grandmaster Nightfalls, you can only complete each Conquest once per season.

avant-garde:

All Conquests have the Avant-Garde modifier, which means you must use new or featured gear (gear with a teal icon) in your loadout.

Complete weekly campaign missions

Two drops per week. Screenshot by Dot Esports

Every week, you can complete two The Edge of Fate campaign missions on either Fabled or Mythic difficulty for bonus loot. The first weekly completion of each mission awards a Tier 3 drop on Fabled difficulty and a Tier 4 drop on Mythic, which you can increase by purchasing upgrades.

To get Tier 5 drops from these missions, reach 350 Power and get the Kepler Tier Upgrade: +1 from Altar of Relativity. With the upgrade, completing a weekly mission for the first time each week on Mythic difficulty guarantees a Tier 5 drop.

Before heading into the weekly mission, attune to the gear piece you want at the Altar of Relativity on Kepler. The last thing you need is a machine gun when you’re missing a better pair of leg armor for your new build.

Purchase upgrades on Kepler

In case you want high-tier Kepler gear. Screenshot by Dot Esports

At the Altar of Relativity, you can purchase the aforementioned upgrades that improve destination loot. Reaching 350 Power unlocks the Kepler Tier Upgrade: +1, and then reaching 450 Power unlocks the Kepler Tier Upgrade: +2. These upgrades increase the Tier of all Kepler rewards, including world drops, weekly mission rewards, and The Sieve activity rewards.

Play Desert Perpetual raid with Feats

Either grind or be really good at the game. Screenshot by Dot Esports

The Desert Perpetual raid is the only exception when it comes to grinding Power for Tier 5 gear. There’s a chance to get a Tier 5 drop for completing a raid encounter, but to increase it, you need to add Feats (raid-specific modifiers) when starting your run, with five Feats guaranteeing Tier 5 loot. There are also two weekly challenges that guarantee a Tier 5 drop when completing them with three or more Feats.

Tier 5 gear benefits in Destiny 2

Tier 5 armor is more important than Tier 5 weapons. Screenshot by Dot Esports

Higher Tier gear comes with slightly improved stats and, in the case of Tier 5 weapons, also with a unique cosmetic treatment. While Tier 5 gear is better stat-wise, don’t be pressured into farming it, as the difference isn’t nearly as decisive as you might think.

Weapons

Here are the Tier benefits for weapons (higher Tiers include all the previous benefits):

  • Tier 1: Base weapon.
  • Tier 2: Enhanced perks in the third and fourth columns.
  • Tier 3: Two perks in the third and fourth columns.
  • Tier 4: Enhanced mods, magazine, and barrel.
  • Tier 5: Three perks in the third and fourth columns. A unique ornament and kill effect.

Regardless of the tier, the most important aspect of any weapon is its perks. A Tier 3 god roll is always better than a Tier 5 with mediocre perks, especially since you will be able to upgrade the weapon tiers in Renegades.

Armor

Here are the tier benefits for armor:

  • Tier 1: 52-57 stat points.
  • Tier 2: 58-63 stat points.
  • Tier 3: 64-69 stat points.
  • Tier 4: 70-75 stat points, 11 Energy.
  • Tier 5: 75 stat points, stat tuning.

On the other hand, having Tier 5 armor allows you to maximize stats on any given build. Apart from guaranteeing maximum stat points, a Tier 5 armor piece also comes with a tuning socket. Tuning allows you to increase a pre-determined stat by five points at the cost of another stat of your choice.

Generally, aim to get high stat Tier 4 pieces (73+), as those come with 11 Energy rather than 10, allowing you to squeeze more mods. The stats for tuning sockets on Tier 5 pieces are random, and while you can farm for them to maximize loadouts, it’s a whole new time commitment that’s not really worth it.

Black Ops 7 devs unveil “stronger” anti-cheat with aimbot clampdown coming

by admin September 30, 2025

Treyarch have revealed upgrades to their RICOCHET Anti-Cheat system ahead of Black Ops 7, including a crackdown on aimbots and wall hacks.

Cheating is a constant issue in any online shooter, and Call of Duty is no different. In the past, games like Warzone have been plagued by hackers on PC, who often ruin lobbies by using software to see through walls or make themselves impossible to kill.

Measures have been put in place over the years, and Black Ops 7 is cranking them up a notch by forcing PC players to enable TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot before playing. Now, they’ve revealed even more upgrades to make this year’s CoD as smooth as possible.

BO7 anti-cheat gets major upgrades ahead of launch

In a new blog post, Treyarch explained that a “new generation of machine learning systems and detection tools” is coming to Black Ops 7 at launch. These are powered by millions of hours of gameplay from BO6, which helps it identify cheaters.

Article continues after ad

This brings three major upgrades to the anti-cheat system, the first of which is smarter aimbot detection. The devs described it as the “strongest” they’ve ever built, as it should distinguish between natural and artificial aim more consistently.

It’s also set to clamp down on wall hacks with more accurate detection, making it more difficult for those who can see enemies through surfaces to hide it.

The final improvement is what the blog calls a “layered defense,” where multiple different features work together at once. This “makes it harder for cheaters to adapt and easier for us to stay ahead,” and will receive constant updates.

All of these upgrades will go live officially when Black Ops 7 launches on November 14, as well as Warzone.

Meanwhile, the beta that gets underway on October 2 will use the older system, but all of the new improvements will be tested in the background so they’re ready to go on day one.

Who bought EA? | GamesIndustry.biz

by admin September 30, 2025

Electronic Arts has confirmed it has entered into an agreement to be acquired for $55 billion by an investment consortium comprised of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners.

But who are the companies involved, and why has the acquisition ruffled more than a few feathers?

Let’s start with PIF, the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia.

Founded in 1971, PIF is among the largest sovereign wealth funds in the world, with assets estimated to be worth $925 billion, and is controlled by Saudi Arabia’s crown prince Mohammed bin Salman.

PIF already has an established presence in the games and esports space, but its investments in the game industry have caused controversy owing to the country’s poor record on human rights, including discrimination against women and the fact that homosexuality is illegal in the country.

Bin Salman was found by the US government to have directly approved the assassination of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. This is part of the reason why Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot received backlash from employees for meeting him last year as part of a French delegation that reportedly resulted in a deal for a new free DLC for Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

The fund’s video game and esports investment arm, Savvy Games Group, was founded in 2021 and currently owns ESL FACEIT Group and Niantic’s new (as of June) owner, Scopely, but also has an 8.1% share of Embracer Group (worth $1 billion), the parent company of Plaion, THQ Nordic, and Coffee Stain, among others.

Savvy Games Group-owned Scopely bought Pokémon Go developer Niantic earlier this year | Image credit: Niantic

In 2022, PIF acquired a 5% stake in Capcom and Nexon Gaming for $1 billion, followed by a 5% stake in Nintendo, which increased to 8.26% in February 2023 before dropping in 2024 to 7.54%. PIF also has a 6.19% stake in Take-Two Interactive as of June 2025.

PIF already owned sizable shares in EA prior to this acquisition and even reportedly increased the number of shares it owns in the company by 55% (to 24.81 million) in 2023.

The acquisition will see the investment consortium acquiring 100% of EA, with PIF rolling over its existing stake in the firm.

Next, we have Silver Lake, ranked the 12th largest private equity firm in the world. Based in the US and headed up by Egon Durban and Greg Mondre, Silver Lake specialises in technological investments.

The firm currently has a large portfolio of investments in companies such as Airtable, Dell, Klarna, Noom, Stripe, and Unity Technologies.

Silver Lake is also a majority shareholder in City Football Group (CFG), the parent company of Manchester City football club, and owns stakes in a multitude of football clubs across the world.

In the press release revealing the acquisition, Durban said:

“EA is a special company: a global leader in interactive entertainment, anchored by its premier sports franchise, with accelerating revenue growth and strong and scaling free cash flow.”

If you consider EA’s successful sports franchises, including EA FC, and Silver Lake’s links with numerous football clubs, this investment makes sense.

Finally, we have Affinity Partners, an independent US investment firm headed up by Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US president Donald Trump, and the former director of the Office of American Innovation.

During Kushner’s time in office, he and bin Salman allegedly formed a close relationship, exchanging texts and calls, even after the assassination of Jamal Khashoggi. In 2020, he reportedly referred to the assassination as “one of a couple of missteps” by the crown prince.

Kushner left the White House in 2021 and established Affinity Partners, seeking a $2 billion investment from PIF, which was granted by bin Salman.

In September 2024, the chairman of the United States Senate Committee on Finance sent a letter to Affinity Partners’ chief legal officer, raising concerns about the firm’s “business dealings with foreign investors, including foreign governments paying Affinity hundreds of millions of dollars in fees for investment advisory services.”

The letter claimed that Affinity has “pocketed $157 million in fees from foreign clients,” including $87 million from the Saudi Arabian government.

The letter continued:

“While I appreciate Affinity’s cooperation in this matter thus far, the information provided has heightened my concerns that investments in funds managed by Affinity create unprecedented conflicts of interest, and that Affinity’s investors may not be motivated by commercial considerations, but rather the opportunity to funnel foreign government money to members of president Trump’s family, namely Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump.”

In a statement to the New York Times, Chad Mizelle, Affinity Partners’s chief legal officer, said: “Partisan politics aside, Affinity Partners is an S.E.C.-registered investment firm that has always acted appropriately and any suggestion to the contrary is false.”

“We are fortunate to have the support of some of the world’s most sophisticated investors and work hard on their behalf every day.”

While EA has entered an agreement for the investment group to acquire the company, which has been approved by the company’s board of directors, the acquisition hasn’t been finalised.

The deal is still subject to “customary closing conditions” including approval by EA stockholders and required regulators. Should it be approved, the transaction “is expected to close in Q1 FY27,” EA’s press release confirms.

Mosquito duelist comp in VALORANT, explained

by admin September 30, 2025

Mosquitoes are universally annoying, so why not take some inspiration from them to give your enemies a bad time? If you’re wondering what a “mosquito comp” looks like in VALORANT, we’ve got your back.

VALORANT esports is a breeding ground for creative team comps and outlandish strategies—and the mosquito comp is one of its ingenious creations. If you’re tired of being a Jett main and have a duo to back you up, an innovative pro setup like this one may help you stack more wins, or even be your ticket out of Elo hell. It may take some time to understand and master it before you begin to find value.

Our guide below explains what the mosquito comp in VALORANT features, how it works, and how to make the most of it.

What is the VALORANT mosquito comp?

A mosquito VALORANT comp features Yoru and Waylay in a double duelist team setup. Now, you’re probably wondering, how are these two related to mosquitoes? Let us explain.

First is deception. Image via Riot Games

Yoru’s Gatecrash lets him send a tether portal to any point along a free path, and when required, he can simply activate the ability to teleport (or fake teleport) to the portal’s location. Teammates and enemies can hear a sound cue only if they’re situated near the portal. Yoru’s deceiving kit also offers a clone that can blind enemies, and an information-gathering ultimate that lets him go invisible and invulnerable for a short time.

Now, combine Yoru’s notorious kit with Waylay’s, which lets you dash into an area and then instantly teleport out at lightspeed. She’s also equipped with an instant basic ability, and an Ultimate that “hinders” enemies, letting her use the dash-and-teleport combo even more effectively.

Second is lightspeed. Image via Riot Games

Yoru and Waylay can instantly teleport in and out of situations, which almost becomes unfair to deal with when they’re playing in tandem. The duo combines speed and deception, making space taking easier against enemies who aren’t prepared to tackle the unpredictability. It’s like two mosquitoes hitting you at the same time: Which one do you focus on?

Both Yoru and Waylay excel in solo duelist comps when played to their strengths, but when combined together, they can work like magic. Individually, their pick rates in VALORANT Champions Paris have surpassed that of Jett and Raze, who were once the undefeated champions of the duelist meta.

Best ways to use the mosquito comp in VALORANT

The mosquito comp was first popularized by DRX, one of Pacific’s best, during the VALORANT Champions Paris 2025. If you’re looking for a general rundown of how to use the mosquito comp successfully in your VALORANT games, however, here are my learnings from the times I tried it:

  • It works well on all maps in the current rotation—particularly on Abyss, Corrode, and Lotus, where taking early fights is crucial.
  • Plan combos with your duo. For example, Waylay can use her ultimate and let Yoru teleport inside to find value as she follows to trade if necessary. Yoru can use his ultimate to offer information, which Waylay can follow up with her Saturate and dash in—or vice versa, where Waylay Saturates an enemy and Yoru instantly teleports to follow up. And my personal favorite, both Yoru and Waylay tease enemies with their dash and teleport combos while the rest of the team rushes in to trade.
  • Make sure your team has a scan initiator like Sova or Fade, which further boosts the efficacy of a mosquito comp. Both Yoru and Waylay act as pseudo initiators, so your team will basically have three initiators and a whole lot of information to work with.
  • Waylay’s kit is a bit defensive, but Yoru can help her shine in an aggressive setup by initiating the entry process.
  • The mosquito comp is great against defensive players who like setting up predictable traps and sitting in a corner. You can’t really predict the pathing of a flying Waylay or catch a teleporting Yoru that easily.
  • On defense, Waylay and Yoru can work with ranged weapons like the Outlaw or Operator. You can lock down entry points with ease and slide out of a risky situation with your teleports whenever necessary. Their kits are particularly useful in retakes when the team work together to take advantage of the distraction they create.

All that said, no strategy in VALORANT is invincible—and the mosquito comp isn’t any different.

Limitations of a mosquito comp in VALORANT

If you’re up against a mosquito VALORANT comp and want to counter it, a thoughtful sentinel setup can make all the difference. Deadlock’s wall and trap setups, when combined with well-timed GravNet throws, can effectively deny space and bait out Yoru and Waylay’s utilities. Vyse is also a strong counter, as is Chamber, who can hunt for first blood on one of the duelists with an aggressive Operator and teleport setup.

Additionally, Yoru and Waylay players must have good mechanics and sense of ability usage, or else, the mosquito comp won’t be able to provide much value to the team.

These are just my learnings, but you’ll understand the mosquito comp a lot more by observing DRX’s games. We recommend checking out their matches against Team Liquid in the group stage of Champions Paris. Flashback and HYUNMIN combined for some of the tournament’s most entertaining plays, showcasing never-before-seen combos that left the EMEA superstars in shambles—not once, but twice.
