Chase Elliott wins overtime sprint to advance in NASCAR playoffs

by admin September 29, 2025

Sep 28, 2025, 07:28 PM ET

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Chase Elliott somehow stole Sunday’s race at Kansas Speedway, where he drove from eighth to the checkered flag during a two-lap overtime sprint to earn a spot in the third round of NASCAR’s playoffs.

It was a wild ending to a race that probably should have been won by Denny Hamlin, who dominated and led 159 laps until a bevy of late issues denied him his chance at career win No. 60 for Joe Gibbs Racing.

Editor’s Picks

The race had a slew of late cautions — Hamlin dropped from the lead to seventh on a slow pit stop — that put Bubba Wallace in position to win the race. A red-flag stoppage for Zane Smith flipping his car set up the final overtime restart and Wallace was holding tight in a door-to-door battle with Christopher Bell for the victory.

Then Hamlin came from nowhere to catch Wallace, who drives for the team Hamlin co-owns with Michael Jordan, and Wallace scraped the wall as he tried to hold off his boss. That’s when Elliott suddenly entered the frame and smashed Hamlin in the door to get past him for his second win of the season.

“What a crazy finish. Hope you all enjoyed that. I certainly did,” NASCAR’s most popular driver told the crowd after collecting the checkered flag.

Elliott joins Ryan Blaney as the two drivers locked into the third round of the playoffs. The field will be cut from 12 drivers to eight after next week’s race in Concord, North Carolina and Elliott said once he got in position for the victory, he wasn’t giving up.

“I wasn’t going to lift, so I didn’t know what was going to happen. I figured at the end of the day, it was what it was at that point,” Elliott said. “Wherever I ended up, I ended up. At that point, we were all committed. Really cool just to be eighth on the restart and somehow win on a green-and-white checkered. Pretty neat.”

Hamlin finished second and was clearly dejected by the defeat. The three-time Daytona 500 winner is considered the greatest driver to never win a Cup title and needed the victory to lock up his spot in the next round of the playoffs. He also has a 60th Cup win set as a major career goal and is stuck on 59 victories.

He drove the final 50-plus laps with his power steering on the fritz.

“Just super disappointing. I wanted it bad. It would have been 60 for me,” Hamlin said. “Obviously got really, really tight with [Wallace], and it just got real tight and we let [Elliott] win.

“Man, I wanted it for my dad. I wanted it for everybody. Just wanted it a little too hard.”

Hamlin was followed his JGR teammates Bell and Chase Briscoe, who were third and fourth.

Wallace wound up fifth and even though the victory would have moved him deeper into the playoffs than he’s ever been in his career, he was satisfied considering how poorly his car was running earlier in the race. He wasn’t even upset with Hamlin, and he shook hands with his boss on pit road.

“To even have a shot at the win with the way we started … you could have fooled me. We were not good,” Wallace said. “Two years ago I’d probably say something dumb [about Hamlin]. He’s a dumbass for that move. I don’t care if he’s my boss or not. But we’re going for the win. I hate that we gave it to Chevrolet there.”

Elliott, in a Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports, was the only non-Toyota driver in the top five.

Next up is a playoff elimination race at the hybrid oval/road course at Charlotte Motor Speedway, where Kyle Larson won a year ago. The playoff field will be cut from 12 drivers to eight following next Sunday’s race.

The four drivers in danger of playoff elimination headed into that race are Ross Chastain, Austin Cindric, Reddick and Wallace.

“Obviously there’s only one thing we can do at Charlotte (win), and that’s what we’ll be focused on,” Reddick said.

How to beat level 38 of I’m Not a Robot

I’m Not a Robot loves giving you Waymo parking puzzles, where you have to showcase your parallel parking skills and park the vehicle in the exact space. However, the final Park the Waymo challenge, Tough Decisions, takes it to the next level, where reaching your parking spot requires you to sacrifice a baby or an old lady on the road.

While you might feel that choosing one and wrapping the challenge is light work, it doesn’t work like that, and the solution is easier than expected. If you’re struggling with this challenge, we have a detailed guide to solve it.

I’m Not a Robot level 38 – Park the Waymo solution

Out-of-the-box solution. Screenshot and remix by Dot Esports

To solve level 38 Park the Waymo puzzle, you’ll have to think literally out of the box. While in the other Waymo challenges, you could just use the road with your car to reach your spot, but this challenge tricks you into making a rash decision.

You can either hit the child or the grandma to reach the parking spot, but the moment you hit them, the puzzle resets, forcing you to find another way to reach your spot. You can be creative and use the grass to complete it without hitting them, but it also crashes your vehicle, leaving you with only one solution to solve the puzzle: use the road outside the puzzle area.

Yes, drive your vehicle to the left or right as you prefer and make a sharp turn to reach the road next to the parking lot. Always keep the car in your vision. Otherwise, your puzzle will reset. Once you reach the road, drive into it and make sure you don’t hit the grass or the people while you park your vehicle adjacent to other vehicles on the road. You’ll finish the puzzle without harming anyone.

Next up, you can read our guides to solve other puzzles like the squares on the 64th floor of the Empire State Building and the Reverse Turing test in I’m Not a Robot.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson says “we’ll see” about running for President

by admin September 28, 2025

The Rock has yet again addressed fans who want him to run for president of the United States, saying he’s honored and we’ll just have to see what happens.

The wrestling legend turned actor has long been floated as a potential political candidate, with polls in recent years showing nearly half of Americans would support a “Rock for President” campaign. Multiple parties have even reportedly approached Johnson about running, though he’s consistently stopped short of making a commitment.

Article continues after ad

Johnson has addressed the idea multiple times since 2016, calling it “an honor” that people ask but citing his career and family as reasons to stay out of politics. While he endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020, Johnson later said he wouldn’t make public endorsements going forward, noting the division his previous stance created.

The Rock can’t escape presidential election questions

Appearing on Variety’s Award Circuit podcast to promote his upcoming A24 drama Smashing Machine, Johnson was again asked if a presidential run could be in his future. He acknowledged how persistent the conversation has become.

“It’s wild, man,” Johnson said. “I’m always honored that people ask that. I love what I do. I love storytelling. But yeah… we’ll see.”

While the Hollywood star once again stopped short of confirming any political ambitions, his response is unlikely to silence speculation. As long as polls show support and the “Rock for President” idea continues to trend, questions about whether Johnson will step into the political arena don’t appear to be going away.

Tomlin speech inspires Steelers to win in Dublin for late Rooney

by admin September 28, 2025

Brooke Pryor is a reporter for NFL Nation at ESPN who has covered the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2019. She previously covered the Kansas City Chiefs for the Kansas City Star and the University of Oklahoma for The Oklahoman.

DUBLIN — The night before playing the first regular-season NFL game in Dublin, Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin delivered an emotional speech to his team about the significance of the late Dan M. Rooney, a former U.S. ambassador to Ireland and influential Steelers chairman.

Less than 24 hours later, Tomlin and the Steelers held on for an emotional roller-coaster 24-21 win against the Vikings in the Rooney family’s ancestral country in front of thousands of Terrible Towel-toting fans.

“We definitely had a chip on our shoulder,” edge rusher T.J. Watt said. “Mike T. last night gave a speech on the importance of the Rooney family here in Ireland and Mr. Rooney, his ambassadorship here and how important this game means to their family.

“We take a lot of pride in that, and to be able to go out there and play Steeler football was huge.”

The Steelers did just that with a mostly dominant defensive performance that included six sacks, two interceptions, 14 quarterback hits and 10 tackles for loss. They hung on through a late surge by the Vikings that brought the Carson Wentz-led team within three points, using a deflected pass by safety DeShon Elliott to seal the win with seconds remaining.

“I know he’s smiling at us today,” Tomlin said of the former ambassador. “It’s just an honor to fulfill his vision, to bring NFL football to Dublin.”

Designated as a Steelers home game, the crowd of nearly 75,000 was mostly Steelers fans, and they were raucous from the minute the gates opened three hours before kickoff.

“I thought the atmosphere was outstanding,” quarterback Aaron Rodgers said. “I come out early. In most NFL stadiums there’s two hours when the stadium opens, and it starts to trickle in. Somebody came back in the locker room at like 11:00 and goes, man, there’s a ton of people out there already. I was like, yeah, we’re not in the states anymore. This is a different type of fan.

“… A lot of Terrible Towels there, but I felt like there was probably some good old Irish getting in the mix too waving those towels around a little bit. The music was great. The fans were cool. The field was pristine.”

The entire game-day experience was an embodiment of Pittsburgh traditions and the Rooney family’s Irish heritage. During warmups, the Clada House Band, an Irish group, performed live sets between a DJ mixing top-40 hits and songs from Irish artists. The game also featured performances of both the U.S. and Irish national anthems.

“This has always been a dream of his,” tight end Connor Heyward said of Rooney. “Even on the way here to the stadium, you could get chills. I got chills just seeing all the Steelers fans and having this opportunity and then also with the national anthem, like hearing the U.S. national anthem and then hearing the Ireland national anthem. Two opposites, one’s more lit, but it was really cool.”

Just as they do at Acrisure Stadium, the Steelers also played the “Pittsburgh Polka” before kickoff. Later on, the stadium ushered in the fourth quarter with a crowd-led singalong to “Zombie” by the Cranberries, an Irish rock band formed in Limerick.

After the Steelers kicked a field goal to take an 18-point lead later in the final quarter, the videoboards went dark and Styx’s “Renegade,” the Steelers’ defensive anthem, began to play.

Sunday’s win capped a whirlwind three-day trip to the island for the Steelers, who arrived on Friday and promptly took an hourlong bus ride to Carton House for their weekend accommodations. The Steelers practiced at the estate a couple of hours after arriving, using the same fields previously utilized by the Irish national rugby team ahead of matches in Dublin. They also held an extensive walk-through on Saturday.

Earlier in the week, Rodgers expressed a desire to have arrived to Ireland earlier, but he clarified Sunday that he simply wished he’d had a longer stay in one of his three career international games.

Between practices, the team had free time to explore Dublin.

“It was a short trip, but from the moment we landed, the security guys over at the Carton House were hilarious,” Rodgers said. “The Guinness was good in downtown Dublin. It will be a nice flight back with hopefully a yearly return by us or two other teams.”

Though most of the trip was a positive experience, Steelers backup quarterback Skylar Thompson, who wasn’t scheduled to play because he’s on injured reserve, was robbed on Friday night, but he was at the game on Sunday in a sweatsuit.

Asked if Dublin did enough to earn another NFL game, Rodgers was definitive.

“100 percent,” he said. “Yes.”

Wolf Haus Games Reveals Co-Op Dark-Comedy Survival Game JOIN US at PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct

by admin September 28, 2025

MONTREAL  — September 28, 2025 — Today, during the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct, independent Montreal, Quebec-based studio Wolf Haus Games revealed JOIN US, a darkly satirical, story-rich survival game that lets players build and command their own doomsday cult to prepare for the coming apocalypse. Not your average survival game, JOIN US combines a strong game loop and novel mechanics to create an ambitious and culturally relevant single or multiplayer experience. Design your cult’s belief system and recruit new followers into a fresh, fully authored narrative that adapts to player choices.Wolf Haus Games’ debut project, JOIN US, embodies the team’s passion for grindhouse cinema, refreshing sense of humor, and over 150 years of combined experience working on feature films, major music videos, and more than 100 AAA video games. You’ll get your chance to “JOIN US”  when the game launches next year on PC.

In JOIN US, players take the role of a devout member of a doomsday cult, sent to establish a new chapter of their cult in rural Bedford County, USA. While you must heed the wise words of The Leader, this “franchise” is yours to command and shape as you please; think of it like you’re franchising a Burger King, or a KFC. You are free to explore the open world as you recruit followers, design your own robust belief system, and scale up a compound to accommodate your growing ‘family.’ Not everyone will take kindly to outsiders, so you might be forced to protect your compound… by any means necessary (including but not limited to flamethrowers and battle-pigs).

With an Apocalypse just around the corner, you’ll want your compound to be well-stocked with the essentials: food, supplies, and ammunition. But your most important resource is your followers. After all, a cult leader with no followers is just a lonely weirdo. Get the word out with propaganda, and you can recruit poor, lost souls to a better life. As your forces grow, so will your territory; take the fight against non-believers to their doorstep to extend your cult’s territory.

Experience the immersive narrative campaign in single player or up to four-player co-op as you conquer the game’s dynamic open-world environment. Whether you roll solo or recruit your friends, cult life is your calling, and the end of the world is nigh (which, if you’re a doomsday cult, is a good thing, right?).

CS2 crowd cheating controversy reignites debate over live event security measures

by admin September 28, 2025

The recent controversy at FISSURE Playground 2 has reignited conversations about competitive integrity in esports, with professionals across the scene demanding stronger security measures at live tournaments.

The incident unfolded during the semifinals between Team Falcons and FURIA, where Falcons player Kyxsan repeatedly wiggled his crosshair through smoke at suspected enemy positions, relying on crowd reactions to guide his decisions on Nuke. The tactic quickly spiraled out of control, forcing organizers to disable the X-ray spectator feature mid-match to prevent further abuse.

Industry voices were quick to criticize the situation. Complexity general manager Messioso made his stance clear: “Crowd cheating is one thing. Players enticing the crowd into cheating for them by wiggling their crosshair into smokes or walls is significantly worse and should be punished severely.” His words highlighted just how damaging intentional crowd manipulation can be for the credibility of top-level competition.

Mild take

Crowd cheating is one thing.

Players enticing the crowd into cheating for them by wiggling their crosshair into smokes or walls is significantly worse and should be punished severely.

Disgraceful behaviour.

— Graham Pitt (@messioso) September 20, 2025

This problem is not new to Counter-Strike. The 2018 Boston Major saw Olofmeister engage in similar antics, though back then, the community largely laughed it off. The climate in 2025 is different, with multiple CS2 events this year facing crowd-related controversies; the issue is now systemic rather than isolated.

Tournament organizers are exploring several fixes. Some events have tested separating audiences from players, while others have leaned toward stricter penalties for disruptive spectators. As seen at FISSURE, protocols now allow for cutting off spectator features like X-ray when necessary, though such measures raise concerns about the overall viewing experience.

Discussions are also emerging around standardized penalties for players who deliberately exploit crowd reactions, though the industry lacks a unified regulatory framework. With more international tournaments approaching, each boasting massive prize pools and global audiences, pressure is mounting to strike a balance between maintaining fairness and preserving the electric atmosphere that makes live esports so compelling.

Ironically, despite the controversy, FURIA pushed through the distraction, taking both the semifinal and eventually the championship. Their victory reinforced that disciplined execution can still prevail, even when external factors threaten to tip the scales. The incident, however, has left the esports community with pressing questions about how to safeguard integrity while keeping the live spectacle alive.

Fortnite removes controversial Peacemaker emote while investigating “creative intentions”

by admin September 28, 2025

Epic Games has removed the Peacemaker Season 2 Peaceful Hips emote from Fortnite following controversy around its design.

Peacemaker, the DC series starring John Cena, first aired in 2022 with its over-the-top dance intro quickly becoming a signature part of the show. The sequence changes slightly across episodes and has been described by director James Gunn as a deliberate storytelling device that hints at characters and themes, with Season 1 even foreshadowing its villain through butterfly-like movements.

We’re disabling the Peaceful Hips Emote in Fortnite as we inquire into our partner’s creative intentions in this collab emote. Assuming it’s not coming back, we’ll issue refunds in the next few days. Sorry folks.

— Fortnite Status (@FortniteStatus) September 28, 2025

The collaboration between Peacemaker and Fortnite introduced cosmetics inspired by the series, including the Peaceful Hips emote. The dance was based on the Season 2 intro, where Cena waves his arms in exaggerated motions. However, some fans noticed that the arm shapes resembled half a swastika, which they speculated was another example of the show teasing its antagonist through choreography.

On September 28, the official Fortnite Status account confirmed the emote’s removal. “We’re disabling the Peaceful Hips Emote in Fortnite as we inquire into our partner’s creative intentions in this collab emote,” the statement read. “Assuming it’s not coming back, we’ll issue refunds in the next few days. Sorry folks.”

— HYPEX (@HYPEX) September 28, 2025

While it has not been confirmed whether the swastika-like design was intentional or a coincidence, Epic is investigating the matter. Given that the show’s previous season used similar dance cues to foreshadow its villain, many fans believe the gesture was deliberate. If that’s the case, the emote is unlikely to ever return to Fortnite, with refunds already set to be processed for players who purchased it.

If that’s the case, then Peacemaker’s emote will join the likes of Rue and the Washington “Redskins” outfits, which have been removed from Fortnite for being potentially offensive to others.

Indiana QB Mendoza sorry for ‘cooked’ spreads after late safety

by admin September 28, 2025

Sep 28, 2025, 11:12 AM ET

Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza quipped about messing up betting lines with his wild, clock-killing scramble to end the Hoosiers’ 20-15 win over Iowa on Saturday.

With Indiana up 20-13 after stopping Iowa on its final possession, Mendoza ran off the last three seconds of the game by racing 40 yards backward on fourth-and-19 into his own end zone, where he was tackled for a safety.

Mendoza said he was following orders from coach Curt Cignetti.

“Coach said, ‘Hey, take a safety, run out of the end zone,'” Mendoza said. “When I got to the 2, I saw all zeros on the clock, but I kept going.”

Editor’s Picks

Mendoza added: “I know I really cooked people’s spreads. My apologies out to them.”

Indiana closed as an 8.5-point favorite at ESPN BET, but those final two points could have affected wagers on alternate spreads.

On the previous Hoosiers possession, Mendoza threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Elijah Sarratt with 1:28 to play to keep No. 11 Indiana (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) undefeated.

The closest win of the season for the Hoosiers was one Cignetti called a “gut check,” and his players agreed.

“We’ve never been tested like that,” said offensive lineman Pat Coogan. “We have so much room to get better. And that’s the best feeling.”

Mendoza connected with Sarratt, who had six catches for 132 yards, on a slant route down the left side, and Sarratt broke the tackle attempt of Iowa’s Deshaun Lee on his way to the touchdown.

The quarterback said he knew Iowa would blitz and that his outside receivers would have room.

“It was kind of ‘dealer’s choice,'” Mendoza said. “When the game’s on the line and I can throw a pass like that to my guy Elijah … that’s college football. That’s what it’s all about.”

Indiana, which came into the game ranked second nationally in total offense and scoring offense, was held to 337 yards and its lowest scoring output of the season. But the Hoosiers got two touchdown passes from Mendoza, who threw for 233 yards, and two field goals from Nico Radicic.

“It was the good, the bad and the ugly, and there was a lot of the bad and the ugly,” Cignetti said.

Iowa (3-2, 1-1) had a chance to break a 13-13 tie with 2:01 to play, but Drew Stevens missed a 42-yard field goal. The Hawkeyes were also without quarterback Mark Gronowski, who left the game in the fourth quarter with an apparent lower leg injury.

He wanted to come back on Iowa’s next series but was replaced by Hank Brown, who finished 5-of-13 for 48 yards.

“He just didn’t feel like he could decelerate if he ran,” said Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz, who added that Gronowski would undergo further tests Sunday.

Up next for the Hoosiers, following a bye, is a marquee matchup at No. 6 Oregon on Oct. 11.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
