BTC Treads Water, Gold Extends Gain as U.S. Jobs Data Looms: Crypto Daybook Americas

by admin September 3, 2025

By Francisco Rodrigues (All times ET unless indicated otherwise)

Bitcoin BTC$111,487.44 rose just 0.6% in the last 24 hours, while the wider market as measured by the CoinDesk 20 (CD20) Index added 0.4%. The gain is overshadowed by gold’s increase and a major government bond sell-off.

The precious metal broke through $3,500 per ounce for the first time on Wednesday, helping the tokenized gold market to top $2.5 billion in value as growing bets see the Federal Reserve cutting rates this month. Gold’s advance comes as investors are wary of swelling government debt, prompting a sell-off in long-dated government bonds.

The yield on Japan’s 30-year government bond rose to a record 3.28% following similar moves in the U.S. and U.K. The U.S. 30-year Treasury yield neared 5%, while British gilts reached levels not seen since 1998, at 5.7%.

The turmoil hasn’t added fuel to the crypto market, whose price action remains muted. Deribit’s bitcoin volatility index (DVOL) is now at 38.1, its lowest level since late 2023, while capital is seemingly rotating into ether (ETH).

While spot bitcoin ETFs saw $751 million in net outflows last month, spot ether ETFs brought in a net $3.87 billion. That rotation is also being seen on-chain.

Meanwhile, a joint statement from the SEC and CFTC clarified rules for compliant spot crypto trading in the agencies’ latest effort to clear a way forward for crypto in the U.S.

The statement failed to jolt the crypto market, seemingly as investors await Friday’s U.S. jobs report. A soft reading could nudge the Federal Reserve closer to lowering rates, which would boost the market and other risk assets.

A hotter-than-expected figure, however, could damp sentiment. September has historically been a negative month for the sector, with bitcoin recording a drop of 3.29% on average for the month according to CoinGlass data. Stay alert!

Token Talk

By Oliver Knight

  • Bitcoin BTC$111,487.44 dominance, a key metric when assessing whether the crypto market is in “altcoin season” has ticked down another notch to around 58%, having been above 61% just 30 days ago.
  • The drop-off demonstrates a change in trader behavior: Typically altcoins perform poorly when BTC enters a downtrend, this time, however, many have held their value while some have outperformed the market’s largest asset.
  • Bitcoin is down by 2.91% in the past 30 days while the likes of ether (ETH) and solana SOL$210.66 are up by 21% and 27.5%, respectively.
  • While the gains have been driven by the adoption of several altcoins in corporate treasuries, they can also be attributed to a recalibration of the entire market.
  • During BTC’s rise to a $124,000 record high last month, the narrative was solely focused on bitcoin and it’s perceived correlation with the well-performing tech sector in equities.
  • It’s worth noting that in previous cycles bitcoin dominance slumped all the way down to 39%, indicating that the altcoin resurgence still has some way to go.
  • However, as liquidity flowed into BTC, several altcoins fell to record lows against bitcoin, leading to a number being “oversold” on technical indicators like relative strength index (RSI).

Derivatives Positioning

  • The total open interest across all perpetual instruments increased overnight to $114 billion, data from Laevitas show.
  • A liquidations heatmap for the BTC-USDT pair on Binance shows that bitcoin is trading between two significant liquidation clusters. Above the current price, a $90 million cluster of liquidations sits around the $112,200 mark. To the downside, the largest cluster is valued at $76.6 million, located around $110,000.
  • According to Deribit options data, the 24-hour BTC put-call volume is 26.4K contracts, with calls accounting for 51.6% of the total. The contract with the highest volume is the $108K strike price put expiring Sept. 26.
  • That’s followed by the call at a strike price of $114K expiring on the same day.
  • The funding rate heatmap on Coinglass remains positive for most assets, indicating a general bullish sentiment. The one exception is TRX, which has a negative funding rate, reflecting a -10.2% APR.

Market Movements

  • BTC is down 0.1% from 4 p.m. ET Tuesday at $111,323.58 (24hrs: +0.92%)

Google Keeps Chrome as Judge Rejects Breakup: Here’s Why It Matters

by admin September 3, 2025

In brief

  • The ruling lets Google keep Chrome while imposing limits on exclusivity and new data-sharing obligations.
  • Google relied on default agreements and preferential treatment that reinforced its dominance in search, the DOJ said.
  • Analysts say the remedies are less drastic but still leave Google’s core moat intact.

A U.S. federal judge declined to force Google to sell its Chrome web browser in a landmark antitrust case on Tuesday, instead imposing remedies aimed at loosening the tech giant’s grip on online search and advertising.

Handed down by Judge Amit Mehta in Washington on Tuesday, the ruling allows Google to retain its browser while prohibiting it from entering exclusive contracts for its product suite across Search, Chrome, Google Assistant, and its Gemini AI app.

“For years, Google accounted for approximately 90 percent of all search queries in the U.S., and Google used anticompetitive tactics to maintain and extend its monopolies in search and search advertising,” the U.S. Department of Justice wrote in a statement.

Google entered into “a series of exclusionary agreements” that “locked up” how ordinary users accessed and searched online, with the company requiring itself to be the “preset default general search engine on billions of mobile devices and computers,” the DOJ wrote.

The tech company used its stature to buy “preferential treatment” for its search engine and created a “self-reinforcing cycle of monopolization,” the department added.

Judge Mehta’s order specifically requires Google to share portions of its search index and user-interaction data with qualified competitors and to offer syndication of search and text ads, according to multiple reports, though a copy of the order has not surfaced at the time of writing.

Decrypt has reached out to Google for comment.

Still in play

The case began in 2020 and was joined by nearly every U.S. state and territory. In 2024, the court ruled that Google unlawfully monopolized search in violation of the Sherman Act, which deters companies from monopolizing markets or conspiring to restrict competition.

The ruling comes as Google builds its own layer-1 blockchain and faces rising competition from AI-enabled browsers developed by companies such as Perplexity and OpenAI.

Analysts note that while the remedies impose new obligations, Google’s stature in the tech industry may prove more resilient to dislodgement.

While Google’s Chrome browser retains “its distribution advantage and ecosystem integration,” data sharing could “enable competitors to build better targeting features,” Ryan Yoon, senior analyst at Tiger Research, told Decrypt.

Still, Google’s “core moat” in search and vertical integration “remains intact” to an extent where “meaningful market share shifts seem unlikely,” Yoon added.

Google’s broader moves into crypto and AI suggest it is positioning for regulated, enterprise-focused infrastructure where “compliance matters more than decentralization,” while betting on “superior data integration” against its AI browser competitors, even if those “could erode their search monopoly,” Yoon said.

‘Less drastic remedies’

Tuesday’s ruling shows “an enormous shift that finally has us leaning favorably towards market “unblocking” rather than interventionist asset splitting,” Andrew Rossow, a public affairs attorney and CEO of AR Media Consulting, told Decrypt.

The case also offers “a more realistic litigation and negotiation strategy,” Rossow said, citing similar ongoing anti-trust considerations from big companies like Meta and Amazon.

Such a strategy points to how the law could offer “less drastic remedies” if “large tech platform providers” can be “reformed through contract and data access regulation,” he added.

“Our judiciary must adapt to technology’s unpredictability, rather than attempt to dictate the next market winner,” Rossow opined.

Elizabeth Warren Slams Trump’s WLFI Venture as ‘Corruption’

by admin September 3, 2025

Senator Elizabeth Warren has continued her ongoing criticism of Donald Trump, expressing her disdain over the family’s crypto activities.

Summary

  • Elizabeth Warren calls Trump’s WLFI venture “corruption” in response to his family’s crypto fortune of $5 billion.
  • WLFI’s price has continued to fluctuate, with the market cap currently at $5.61 billion.
  • Warren recently criticized the current crypto regulations, calling them ineffective and accusing them of benefiting Trump’s business interests.

Democrat member and representative of the state of Massachusetts, Senator Elizabeth Warren, has criticized the Trump family’s involvement in the newly launched World Liberty Financial (WLFI) token. In a September 2 X post, Warren slammed the venture, describing it as “corruption, plain and simple.”

The latest comment from Warren follows the recent trading debut of WLFI, a Trump-backed cryptocurrency, which briefly pushed the family’s stake including more than 22 billion tokens held through DT Marks DEFI LLC to a paper value of over $5 billion. This marked the biggest single-day jump in the family’s fortune and at its peak, made WLFI the family’s most valuable asset, surpassing even their long-standing real estate portfolio.

However, the multi-billion-dollar valuation is not entirely real money, as it is based on WLFI’s price surge from at launch to $0.46. The figure has also since dropped due to the token’s volatile price movement. Despite an initial surge on Monday, WLFI has been struggling in the past two days, as buying pressure faded and the market showed increasing signs of sell-offs, pushing its value to a low of $0.20.

While it briefly climbed to $0.24 on Tuesday, the token could not hold the upward trend, and the price soon dipped again. At the time of writing, WLFI trades at $0.22, a 5% drop on the day, with its market cap hovering around $5.61 billion.

Elizabeth Warren’s continued criticism of Trump’s crypto ventures

This is not the first time Senator Warren has expressed concerns about Trump’s crypto-related ventures. She has long been a vocal critic of crypto and has consistently criticized Trump’s involvement in the industry. Warren previously raised alarms over proposed crypto regulations like the GENIUS stablecoin act and the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act, calling them too lenient.

“We need strong crypto regulation, not an industry giveaway that puts our economy at risk and supercharges President Trump’s corruption,” Warren said in an earlier statement. She emphasized the need for robust regulation and went so far as to call for bans on elected officials from trading or engaging in crypto businesses, citing Trump’s ties to the industry.

Meanwhile, Warren’s criticism is not just focused on WLFI but the broader influence of crypto on U.S. politics. She warned that ineffective regulations would allow politicians, like Trump, to profit off their industry connections, resulting in conflicts of interest that could distort the market.

The senator is not the only one to express concerns regarding Trump’s involvement in crypto. Her sentiments have been shared by other influential figures, who also warn that his dual roles in politics and crypto-related ventures could manipulate the market.

However, the White House has dismissed these concerns, noting that the president’s business ventures and political activities are separate, and that no conflicts of interest are present.

Crypto Exchange OKX Fined $2.6M in Netherlands for Failing to Register With Dutch National Bank

by admin September 3, 2025

Global cryptocurrency trading firm OKX was fined 2.25 million euros ($2.6 million) by the Dutch National Bank (DNB) for offering crypto services in the Netherlands without having registered with the financial regulator.

The fine on the company, whose official name is Aux Cayes Fintech Co., relates to the period July 2023 to August 2024, before the introduction of Europe Union’s Markets in Crypto Assets regime (MiCA), according to a press release.

The Netherlands started requiring crypto firms to register with the DNB in early 2020, bringing digital assets in line with the country’s anti-money laundering rules (Wwft). The bank has punished several crypto exchanges for similar shortcomings, including Crypto.com, which was fined 2.85 million euros, and Kraken, which had to pay 4 million euros.

“This fine relates to a legacy registration matter that has long since been remediated, with no impact on customers,” said an OKX representative via email. The fine “is the lowest fine issued by DNB against a major exchange and was reduced in recognition of the steps we took, including migrating Dutch users to our fully MiCAR-licensed European entity. We’re pleased to have resolved this matter and remain focused on building compliant, secure services across Europe and beyond.”

World Liberty Burns 47M Tokens as WLFI Price Slides

by admin September 3, 2025

The Trump family’s crypto project, World Liberty Financial, has begun burning its namesake token in a bid to boost its price, which has been in decline since launching to the public on Monday.

Onchain data first reported by Lookonchain showed the platform burned 47 million World Liberty Financial (WLFI) tokens on Wednesday, permanently removing them from the supply.

The token began trading on secondary markets for the first time on Monday, with its early investors allowed to sell their holdings to the public. The token briefly hit a peak of $0.331, but it has continued to decline, dropping 3.8% in the past day to just over 23 cents.

Crypto projects undertake token burns in a bid to tighten supply and theoretically boost the value of the remaining tokens.

Source: Lookonchain

Burn a fraction of WLFI’s supply

CoinMarketCap shows around 24.66 billion tokens, or just over 25% of WLFI’s original 100 billion supply, have so far been unlocked, with the burn representing 0.19% of the token’s circulating supply.

The transaction on Etherscan shows that the tokens were sent to a burn wallet on Sept. 2, with Etherscan now showing that the tokens’ total supply has been reduced to just over 99.95 billion.

World Liberty put forward a proposal on Tuesday to implement a token buyback and burn program using protocol-owned liquidity fees in an effort to drive up the scarcity and price.

The team claims in the proposal that a token burn would “increase the relative ownership percentage of committed long-term holders,” while removing from circulation tokens “held by participants not committed to WLFI’s long-term growth.”

The token is down over 31% from its opening high on its launch day, as short sellers offloaded the token, a problem the token burn aims to address.

The majority of the 133 respondents in the comments section below the proposal have voiced approval, with an official vote yet to occur.

Token launch shows market needs time to mature

Kevin Rusher, founder of real-world asset borrowing and lending ecosystem RAAC, said in a statement after the launch, he thinks the hype around the WLFI token shows crypto is still struggling to grow up.

He argues that true longevity in the ecosystem will be determined by institutional adoption, not “celebrity tokens or short-term hype.”

Related: Trump family’s World Liberty stake surges to $5B after token unlock

“The concern, however, is that such blatantly speculative trading continues to damage trust in crypto, and that’s the opposite of what is required to build a truly resilient, long-term financial system,” Rusher added.

Meanwhile, Mangirdas Ptašinskas, head of marketing and community at Web3 identity and rewards platform Galxe, said the token launch sent Ethereum gas fees “into the stratosphere,” which he thinks should be a warning to builders that “our job is still far from done.”

“If a spike in trading can suddenly push fees on a $200 transfer to $50, there is still work required to prepare the crypto ecosystem for the mainstream adoption that is undoubtedly coming,” he said.

Crypto Lawyer Dismisses Speculation on RLUSD Use Over XRP

Crypto Lawyer Dismisses Speculation on RLUSD Use Over XRP

by admin September 3, 2025

Amid growing misconceptions surrounding the Ripple payment ecosystem, pro-crypto lawyer Bill Morgan has taken to X to clear major concerns.

In a post shared on Tuesday, the lawyer has cleared the air on speculations about XRP being outperformed by RLUSD in cross-border payments.

The post comes as Ripple’s recent partnership announcements have seen the public weighing in on the use of Ripple’s U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin, RLUSD in the firm’s third-party partnerships against XRP.

Morgan proves XRP as superior to RLUSD

In contrast to the growing narrative that suggests RLUSD plays the core role in Ripple’s external payments, downplaying XRP’s use in such scenarios, the lawyer has clarified that recent announcements surrounding Ripple’s partnerships, including those with global payment firms, do not signify any key role for RLUSD.

While Morgan warned that he is not in the best position to issue such confirmations, he emphasized that Ripple has originally made clarifications that the majority of Ripple payments involve the use of XRP not RLUSD.

I don’t work for either company so putting me to the test of giving you confirmation or certainty is hardly fair.

Nothing in the announcement at all suggest any role for RLUSD. I think ripple has now made it clear and certainly it has been made clear and post by.@JoelKatz that…

— bill morgan (@Belisarius2020) September 2, 2025

The statement which was also reaffirmed by Ripple’s CTO, David Schwartz, emphasized that XRP remains superior to RLUSD in such major use cases as RLUSD currently serves limited purposes, such as in USD-specific markets or where regulatory frameworks mandate stablecoin use.

In his assertions, Morgan further added that in real-time, the use of RLUSD would only trigger more complexities for companies like Thunes, which prioritize instant payment in crypto transactions. Notably, some of the potential downsides posed by RLUSD in such scenarios include slower transactions, higher fees when issued on Ethereum, and limited global liquidity due to its USD peg.

On the other hand, Morgan confirmed that XRP is simply a superior bridge currency to any fiat based stablecoin provided the payment is fast enough for volatility, hence it is not to be a concern. He further added that there are no regulatory issues that make RLUSD preferable to XRP.

While the XRP community have expressed agreements to Morgan declaring XRP’s unmatched role in cross-border payments, it appears that the debate has had to come up every time there’s an announcement about a Ripple partnership with a third party.

Morgan expressed frustrations on the recurrence of such issues noting that it has become boring to have to address the same misconceptions on every Ripple partnership with a third party.

Shares are set to trade on Nasdaq under the ticker FIGR, with Goldman Sachs, Jefferies, and BofA Securities leading the underwriting syndicate.

Figure has been a prominent player in the real-world asset (RWA) sector, originating more than $16 billion in home equity lines of credit using its Provenance blockchain rails.

Earlier this year it merged with Figure Markets, another Cagney venture that operates a blockchain marketplace and issues YDLS, a yield-bearing stablecoin structured as a tokenized money market fund.

Ethereum Buys Surge As Jack Ma-Linked Yunfeng Financial Invests $44 Million

Ethereum (ETH) adoption shows no signs of slowing down, as the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap continues to attract firms looking to diversify their corporate treasury strategies.

Yunfeng Financial Buys $44 Million In Ethereum

According to an announcement earlier today, Hong Kong-listed Yunfeng Financial Group is the latest entity to invest in Ethereum. The firm purchased 10,000 ETH worth approximately $44 million.

The announcement states that the ETH purchase was primarily funded through internal cash reserves. Notably, on July 14, the firm disclosed plans to expand into areas such as Web3, Real World Assets (RWA), and artificial intelligence (AI).

For the uninitiated, Yunfeng Financial Group is a Hong Kong-based publicly-listed firm offering investment and financial services. Notably, Chinese billionaire Jack Ma is a key associate of the group.

Regarding the ETH acquisition, the company explained that Ethereum was chosen over other digital assets to support infrastructure for RWA tokenization. The company added:

This measure will also facilitate the Group’s technological innovation in the Web3 field, and realize the comprehensive and organic integration of finance with technology for its clients, which will effectively enhance client’s service experience and financial autonomy. On the other hand, the Company will explore the potential applicable models of ETH in the Group’s insurance business, as well as innovative business scenarios compatible with Web3.

The announcement also noted that Yunfeng Financial Group intends to classify ETH as an investment asset on its balance sheet. Holding ETH will help diversify its asset base and reduce reliance on traditional fiat currencies.

The Jack Ma-linked firm plans to leverage ETH in insurance operations and decentralized finance-based (DeFi) business scenarios. This could include using ETH as collateral for DeFi loans or using it to provide liquidity.

In similar news, Ethereum-focused firm Ether Machine announced that it had raised $654 million worth of ETH in private financing, ahead of its highly-anticipated Nasdaq listing later this year.

To recall, the Ether Machine was formed via a merger between the Ether Reserve and Dynamix Corporation earlier this year. The firm is expected to go public with almost 500,000 ETH, worth $2.16 billion.

Will ETH Flip Bitcoin?

Although Bitcoin (BTC) remains the largest cryptocurrency with a market cap exceeding $1 trillion, ETH is steadily catching up. Recent data shows that Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are already outshining their BTC counterparts.

One major factor driving ETH adoption is its broad range of use cases. VanEck CEO Jan van Eck recently dubbed ETH the “Wall Street token.” At press time, ETH trades at $4,299, down 1.4% over the past 24 hours.

SEC, CFTC-Registered Exchanges Receive Blessing to Facilitate Spot Crypto Trading

by admin September 3, 2025

In brief

  • The joint statement covers crypto products focused on leverage, margin and financed spot retail commodity transactions.
  • One market observer expects spot crypto assets to receive listings on major equity indexes.
  • Regulators are inviting market participants to engage with SEC or CFTC staff.

Exchanges registered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission should be allowed to facilitate trading of some spot crypto products, the two agencies announced in a joint statement on Tuesday.

The SEC and CFTC, the primary regulators of asset markets, did not mention specific digital assets, but said their joint staff statement covers crypto products centered on “leverage, margin, and financed spot retail commodity transactions.”

Earlier this year, a report, dubbed “Strengthening American Leadership in Digital Financial Technology” and issued by the President’s Working Group on Digital Asset Markets, asked the agencies to provide “regulatory clarity” on those assets, including other issues.

Under the law, registered exchanges are not prohibited from facilitating trading of those spot crypto asset products, they said Tuesday.

“As contemplated by the PWG Report, the Divisions’ coordination will promote trading venue choice and optionality for market participants within the U.S.,” the joint statement reads. “In line with these goals, the divisions stand ready to support consideration by their respective agencies of exchange trading in certain spot crypto asset products.

The statement is among the latest evidence of the rapidly improving regulatory environment for digital assets under the Trump administration.

In the eight months since Donald Trump has been in office, the SEC and CFTC have dropped multiple lawsuits against prominent crypto organizations and repeatedly signaled their willingness to work with an industry that supported Trump’s 2024 campaign.

“Proud to work together with @SECPaulSAtkins to deliver another win on regulatory clarity to trade crypto how you want and where you want to, safely on registered exchanges,”Acting CFTC Chairman Caroline Pham wrote in a post on the social media platform X.

CFTC-registered designated contract markets, foreign board of trade, and commodity transactions listed on an SEC-registered national securities exchange “will not be “prohibited from facilitating the trading of certain spot crypto asset products,” the statement reads.

The regulators invited “market participants to engage with SEC or CFTC staff, as needed.”

Among other points, the agencies said that applicable rules will permit clearinghouses to partner with a custodian to maintain customer accounts.

They recommended “sharing of reference pricing venues by NSEs, DCMs, and FBOTs to improve market surveillance.

In an X post, VanEck Head of Digital Assets Research Matthew Sigel wrote that the statement suggested that major equity exchanges, including NYSE and the Nasdaq, would “soon have spot trading for BTC, ETH, and more.”

But Amanda Fischer, former SEC chief of staff to Gary Gensler, was wary of that possibility and raised concerns about the statement’s vagueness and the absence  of regulation.

“There’s a lot of fanfare, but this statement doesn’t actually answer any questions,” Fischer wrote in an X thread. “The issue is that the exchange, as a self-regulatory organization, and the SEC will have very little to no legal authority to set rules, examine, or enforce trading or customer rules around spot commodities trading on securities exchanges.”

BONK.fun partners with Kick to enable live streaming on its platform

by admin September 3, 2025

BONK.fun partnered with streaming platform Kick to link crypto creators with a broader audience.

Summary

  • BONK.fun will integrate Kick streaming directly into its memecoin launchpad
  • Pump.fun was the first launchpad with a livestreaming service, which raised controversy

Crypto platforms have long struggled to attract a more mainstream audience, something that a recent LetsBonk initiative hopes to change. On Tuesday, Sept. 2, Solana-based memecoin launchpad BONK.fun partnered with the streaming platform Kick to bring crypto to a more mainstream audience.

There’s been a lot of talk over the last few years about connecting Crypto to the mainstream through entertainment channels, but no real progress has been made.

that changes now..

The partnership will consist of Kick’s livestreaming features directly integrated into BONK.fun. Notably, memecoin creators will be able to go live on Kick and have their streams displayed directly on the BONK.fun website.

“Kick has entered the streaming game as an underdog with innovative features and a creator-first focus a win and help win ethos that perfectly embodies what we stand for at BONKfun,” its statement wrote.

This native integration will allow creators to chat with their BONK.fun audience while also having access to a mainstream streaming platform. The memecoin launchpad said it plans to unveil more details soon for both creators and users.

BONK.fun hopes to tap into Kick’s audience

BONK.Fun hopes that the integration will help grow the crypto niche on Kick, which is already significant. Launched in 2022 by the co-founders of gambling platforms Stake.com and Easygo Entertainment, Kick is the biggest competitor to Twitch and YouTube. Due to its more lax moderation, especially when it comes to gambling content, the platform often attracts controversial creators.

Pump.fun was the first memecoin launchpad platform to start a livestreaming service. However, the platform was forced to shut down the service after users became increasingly extreme in how they attracted attention.

For instance, users showed off weapons, threatened violence, and openly ridiculed their viewers. The platform faced a major backlash in November 2024, but partially resumed the service in April 2025, with stricter moderation.
