Werner Herzog on AI-Generated Movies: ‘They Look Completely Dead’

by admin September 29, 2025

Legendary filmmaker and ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ superfan Werner Herzog can see the beauty in just about everything, with two notable exceptions: Chickens and art created by artificial intelligence. During an appearance on the podcast “Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend,” Herzog spoke of the incredible possibilities presented by technological advances, but lamented the sheer lifelessness of its application in areas that require humanity.

Much of the conversation between O’Brien and Herzog centered around the idea of truth (fitting for a guy who just wrote a book called The Future of Truth), which inevitably led them into a conversation about AI. Herzog, who is a fascinating mix of a man somewhat removed from technology but also filled with endless wonder about everything, didn’t dismiss the technology out of hand, but has some grave concerns about it.

“AI, I do not want to put it down completely because it has glorious, magnificent possibilities,” he said, citing its potential uses in scientific fields. “But at the same time, it is already en route to take over warfare. … It will be the overwhelming face of warfare of the future.”

He also simply can’t find much value in generative AI’s takes on works of art.

“I’ve seen movies, short films, completely created by artificial intelligence. Story, acting, everything. They look completely dead. They are stories, but they have no soul,” he told O’Brien. “They are empty and soulless. You know it is the most common, lowest denominator of what is filling billions and billions of informations on the internet. The common denominator and nothing beyond this common denominator can be found in these fabrications.”

Those fabrications of AI are a real point of fascination for Herzog. In his new book, according to an excerpt from The New Republic, he writes AI “sees its occasional errors, and arrives at strategies and decisions that were not programmed in it by humans,” and notes that its outputs arrive “with a little pinch of chaos and imprecision, as is also embedded in human nature.”

While talking to O’Brien, Herzog brought up how AI generates these falsehoods and how we have to navigate them. “And of course, cheating, pretending, propagandizing—all these things are like a nemesis. It is out there, and we have to be alert to it.” His advice? Simply do not take anything entirely at face value. “Again, I say, when you are curious and access different sources, very quickly you will find this is invented.”

In general, Herzog is not much for technology. He didn’t own a cellphone until, according to his telling, he had to get one after he was unable to retrieve his car (an 18-year-old Ford Explorer) from a parking garage in Dublin without downloading an app. But it’s not that he fears it. He just doesn’t trust it. “Everything that comes in via your cellphone or your laptop, emails, whatever—you have to distrust, you have to doubt,” he told O’Brien. In response, O’Brien offered up that he gets updates on his phone when his cats use the litter box because it is internet-connected, and proposed that it should be illegal for anything to require an app to function.

Herzog spoke of how natural navigating technology is for younger people, how effortlessly they spot a phishing email that he wouldn’t be able to identify. He compared the instincts of humans using technology to those of prehistoric men foraging for food and learning to avoid poisonous berries. “They had a natural acquired suspicion about things, and it was so natural that we can certainly assume that they didn’t hate nature,” he said. “They just knew how to navigate. And it’s the same thing—you don’t have to hate the internet and the cell phone and whatever is coming at you in this new media, you just have to maintain a complete level of suspicion.”

All of this comes from Herzog’s greater search for truth, which is central to his new book. On the podcast, he assessed, “Nobody knows what truth is.” And in some ways, it doesn’t matter. O’Brien and Herzog share that in art, sheer truth sometimes matters less than telling a good story. But in the rest of the world, the concept of truth is just as elusive, and the cause of conflict and strife. Whose truth are we operating from?

“Truth is not a point somewhere far out in the distance,” Herzog says. “It’s more a process of searching for it, approximating, having doubts.” O’Brien at one point added, “Emotions get us to a truth sometimes that facts cannot deliver.” That is perhaps why AI art falls so flat. The truth lies in the emotion the work conveys and provokes. AI has nothing to offer.

Electronic Arts Is Being Acquired For $55 Billion And Will Go Private

by admin September 29, 2025

Electronic Arts is being acquired for $55 billion by an investor consortium consisting of the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF), Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. The all-cash transaction sees this collective absorb 100 percent of the publisher, effectively taking the company private.

The transaction is the largest all-cash sponsor take-private investment in history, said to “accelerate innovation and growth to build the future of entertainment,” according to a press release. The deal was approved by the EA’s board of directors and is expected to close during Q1 of the 2027 fiscal year, pending customary regulatory approvals.

Once the acquisition is complete, EA will stay headquartered in Redwood City, California, and Andrew Wilson will remain CEO. Stockholders will receive $210 per share in cash, representing a 25 percent premium to the unaffected share price ($168.32 at market close on September 25, 2025). Following the acquisition, EA’s common stock will no longer be listed on any public market.

“Our creative and passionate teams at EA have delivered extraordinary experiences for hundreds of millions of fans, built some of the world’s most iconic IP, and created significant value for our business. This moment is a powerful recognition of their remarkable work,” said Andrew Wilson in a press release. “Looking ahead, we will continue to push the boundaries of entertainment, sports, and technology, unlocking new opportunities. Together with our partners, we will create transformative experiences to inspire generations to come. I am more energized than ever about the future we are building.”

Battlefield 6

The acquisition group, dubbed “The Consortium,” consists of three companies. First is the PIF, the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia. The PIF has expanded its reach into the video game industry through its Savvy Games Group, an entity founded in 2021. In the last four years, the PIF has purchased stakes in gaming companies such as Nintendo, Activision Blizzard, Take-Two Interactive, Capcom, Embracer Group, and Nexon. The Savvy Games Group also owns American mobile gaming company Scopley, and earlier this year, announced plans to acquire the game division of Pokémon Go developer Niantic. The PIF had an existing stake in EA before its full acquisition of the company.

The second company is Silver Lake, a multi-billion-dollar global technology investment firm based in North America, Europe, and Asia. Lastly, Affinity Partners is a Miami-based investment firm founded in 2021 by Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of President Donald Trump, who once served as White House senior advisor during Trump’s first term.

The Consortium states it will “bring deep sector experience, committed capital, and global portfolios with networks across gaming, entertainment, and sports that offer unique possibilities for EA to blend physical and digital experiences, enhance fan engagement, and create new growth opportunities.”

Madden NFL 26

The acquisition comes as EA gears up for the October 10 launch of Battlefield 6, which is shaping up to be its biggest release of the year. EA’s portfolio of upcoming titles also includes Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted, next year’s Star Wars Zero Company, and more distant projects such as the next Mass Effect, a third Star Wars Jedi title, and Motive Studios’ Iron Man.

It also comes after two years of massive layoffs across EA. In February 2024, EA laid off over 600 employees.  Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment suffered cuts this past April, which resulted in two project cancellations. In May, EA closed Cliffhanger Games, canceling the studio’s in-development Black Panther game.

Tile trackers reportedly have a security flaw that can let stalkers track your location

by admin September 29, 2025

Researchers have discovered major security flaws with Tile tracking tags, according to a report by Wired. These flaws could allow both the company itself and tech-savvy stalkers to track a user’s location. The security issue could also let a malicious actor falsely frame a Tile owner for stalking, as the flaw can make it appear as if a particular tag is constantly in the vicinity of somebody else’s tag.

The issue pertains to how Tile tags transmit data during use. Tile tags transmit a lot of data beyond that of other trackers, including the static MAC address and the rotating ID. According to reporting, none of this stuff is encrypted. The rotating ID changes all of the time, but a MAC address doesn’t.

Researchers believe that all of this information is stored in cleartext, making it easy for hackers to get ahold of. This also would theoretically give Tile itself the ability to track its users, though the company says it doesn’t have this capability.

It gets worse. Anyone with a radio frequency scanner can allegedly intercept all of this information as it’s being transmitted, creating another potential security hole. Also, this problem might not even be solved if Tile decides to stop transmitting the MAC address. This is because the company generates its rotating ID in such a way that future codes can be reliably predicted from past ones.

“An attacker only needs to record one message from the device,” one of the researchers behind the findings said, adding that a single recorded message will “fingerprint it for the rest of its lifetime.” The researcher said this creates a risk of systemic surveillance.

The security researchers, who are involved with the Georgia Institute of Technology, reached out to Tile’s parent company Life360 in November of last year to report the findings. Wired said the company stopped communicating with the researchers in February. The company did say it has made a number of improvements to its security but didn’t elaborate further.

SEC Tells Issuers to Pull 19b-4s; ETFs Could Be Approved ‘Absurdly Fast’

by admin September 29, 2025

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has asked crypto exchange-traded fund (ETF) issuers to withdraw their 19b-4 filings, paving the way for a faster approval process after new rules removed a key regulatory hurdle, a person familiar with the matter told CoinDesk.

Earlier this month, the SEC signed off on generic listing standards, which allow exchanges to list commodity-based exchange-traded products (ETPs), including those tied to cryptocurrencies, without requiring a separate review for each one. These changes are expected to lower the regulatory hurdles for launching spot crypto ETFs.

Historically, issuers had to work with exchanges to submit 19b-4 filings — formal requests to amend exchange rules — before an ETF could be listed. But under the updated framework, that step is no longer required for certain products. Issuers now only need to file an S-1, the document that details an ETF’s structure and strategy, to receive the SEC’s green light.

“The SEC can move absurdly fast if they really want to — as we’ve seen in the past. Meaning that we could see approvals in a matter of days. But there’s no guarantee of that,” said Bloomberg Intelligence ETF analyst James Seyffart.

“They still haven’t greenlit Bitwise’s BITW to convert into an ETF which I’m guessing has to do with the first to file aspect that the SEC typically follows for the rest of the ETF industry. So perhaps they’ll will allow these things to launch in sorts of rolling waves or it could be a shotgun start by underlying asset.”

Over the past several months, asset managers have filed a growing list of spot crypto ETF proposals covering coins like SOL$209.81, LTC$105.93 and DOGE$0.2331. These proposals included both 19b-4 and S-1 filings, reflecting the two-part process required under the old rules.

Removing the need for 19b-4 forms could significantly speed up approvals. The 19b-4 route involved exchanges, such as Nasdaq or NYSE Arca, petitioning the SEC to change their own listing standards each time a new product was introduced — a process that often took months.

Now, with the SEC’s updated stance, exchanges can list crypto-based ETFs that fall within the generic commodity ETP category without having to seek a rule change every time. This places the approval burden squarely on the S-1 filing, which remains under the SEC’s direct review.

While it’s unclear how quickly the SEC will move on the outstanding S-1s, the change marks a shift in the agency’s approach to crypto markets — potentially opening the door for a wider range of digital asset funds to come to market with fewer regulatory delays.

“Everything is uncertain. Add in the prospect of a government shutdown and things can get really wonky,” Seyffart said.

Bitcoin Turns Bullish 3 Reasons Why $120K Could Be Next

Bitcoin Turns Bullish 3 Reasons Why $120K Could Be Next

by admin September 29, 2025

Key takeaways:

  • Clearer digital asset regulation, highlighted by this week’s high-profile SEC–CFTC roundtable, could strengthen investor confidence.

  • A temporary resolution of the looming US government shutdown may ease risk aversion and boost Bitcoin price.

  • Labor market data and Strategic Bitcoin Reserve expectations could fuel renewed momentum toward the $120,000 level.

Bitcoin (BTC) reclaimed the $114,000 mark on Monday, recouping part of the losses from the previous week. Interestingly, this rebound came despite heavy outflows from the spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), prompting investors to question whether the rally is sustainable and what catalysts might drive Bitcoin toward the $120,000 level.

Roughly $900 million flowed out of US-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs last week, sparking moderate concern among traders, especially as long-term whales sold 3.4 million BTC. According to Glassnode, about 90% of the coins moved showed profit-taking for the third time in this cycle, increasing the likelihood of “a cooling phase ahead.”

SEC-CFTC joint roundtable, US government shutdown and labor market data

Three events scheduled for this week could shift investor sentiment toward Bitcoin, starting with a joint roundtable on digital asset regulation hosted by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). SEC Chair Paul Atkins is set to open the event on Monday.

The event in Washington, D.C., is designed to bring greater regulatory clarity to jurisdictional tests, listings, and exchange oversight. Panelists include Jeff Sprecher, CEO of ICE-NYSE, Adena Friedman, CEO of Nasdaq, and Terry Duffy, CEO of CME Group, along with executives from leading crypto-focused firms and representatives from JPMorgan, Bank of America, and Citadel.

Another potential catalyst for Bitcoin’s price is the looming risk of a US government shutdown on Oct. 1. US President Donald Trump has scheduled a meeting with congressional leaders on Monday to try to avert the crisis. Without action from Congress, thousands of federal employees could be furloughed, and numerous services, including small-business grant programs, would be disrupted.

Bitcoin’s price has historically reacted negatively when traders become more risk-averse. About $1.7 trillion in “discretionary” spending that funds agency operations is set to expire at the end of the fiscal year on Tuesday. The House of Representatives narrowly approved a bill on Sept. 19 to fund government agencies through Nov. 21, leaving final approval now in the Senate’s hands.

The next major factor that could unlock a Bitcoin rally to $120,000 is the US job market data, the Federal Reserve’s top focus following core inflation that matched market expectations at 2.9% in August. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics is scheduled to release the JOLTS survey of job openings on Tuesday, followed by the nonfarm payroll report on Friday.

Signs of weakness in the labor market could steer investors toward assets viewed as safer, such as gold and short-term government bonds.

US Strategic Bitcoin Reserves  hopes create a psychological support

Another reason Bitcoin has managed to hold the $109,000 level is optimism surrounding plans for a United States Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. Jan3 founder Samson Mow recently noted that the Trump administration is “pushing forward” budget-neutral strategies to acquire Bitcoin. Some analysts also highlight the possibility of a reevaluation of the US Treasury’s gold reserves.

By repricing gold’s official value from the $42.22 level set by Congress in 1973, the US Treasury could potentially unlock nearly $1 trillion in credit, though US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has dismissed speculation of such a move. Even so, analysts remain confident in the government’s ability to successfully launch a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve in the coming months.

Key drivers that could push Bitcoin above $120,000 include clearer regulation across the digital asset industry, a temporary agreement to avert a looming US government shutdown, and reduced risks reflected in upcoming US job market data. Meanwhile, even the possibility of the US Treasury adding Bitcoin to its reserves provides a psychological support level for the market if those broader events turn unfavorable.

Best Record Players for 2025: Top Turntables Tested by CNET Experts

by admin September 29, 2025

The Audio-Technica offers a carbon-fiber tonearm.

Sarah Tew/CNET

Design

There are four main elements to a turntable: the plinth (or base), the platter on which the vinyl record sits, the motor and the arm. The best designs offer extended bracing and isolation between each of these elements to reduce the noise, which can affect the sound quality of the vinyl.

Motor

Generally, modern record players are powered in one of two different ways: belt drive and direct drive. Direct drive has a dedicated motor that spins the platter directly, and this design is almost exclusively used by DJs — in turntables such as the Technics SL1200. Belt drive models are more consumer-focused and use a motor-driven rubber belt to spin the platter. Belt drive is designed to reduce the noise over direct-drive designs by absorbing motor vibrations which could otherwise be picked up by the stylus. All of the record players in this list offer a belt drive.

Cartridge

A cartridge is the small “box” mounted to the end of the tonearm on your record player. It includes the stylus (or needle) that lowers onto the vinyl itself. The best turntables feature a user-replaceable cartridge, which allows you to experiment with a higher-quality cartridge (such as an Ortofon 2M Red) to produce a better sound.

Speed switch

Another convenience feature to look for include an electronic speed switch which means no more removing the platter to change speeds. If you play a lot of singles, or own audiophile pressings. then you will likely want a hardware switch to choose between 33 1/3 and 45.

Preamp

A switchable, onboard preamp that enables you to use a better phono stage. Unlike most types of players, a turntable needs a preamp to bring music up to “line level.” Otherwise it will sound like pixies singing in a cave. External preamps are generally required for some vintage models as well as intermediate and high-end turntables that sell at a higher price. If you’re looking to keep costs low and convenience high, you may want to consider a turntable with a built-in preamp that then connects to any speaker or receiver. CNET contributor Steve Guttenberg recommends the $100 Schiit Mani phono preamp as a quality budget option.

Additional features

Many modern record players come equipped with features including Bluetooth pairing and USB connectivity.

Price

Turntables start at around $50 and can cost as much as a mortgage payment, but the good ones start at around $300. Audiophile-quality models start from $1,000. This list contains plenty of options, including budget models, to help you stay within your budget.

Hasan reveals he won’t attend TwitchCon over safety concerns as more streamers back out

by admin September 29, 2025

Twitch streamer Hasan is the latest content creator saying he won’t attend TwitchCon, stating that his presence could put others at risk.

TwitchCon is set for October 17-19 in San Diego, California. The annual event gives streamers and viewers a chance to interact in-person, but this year, fans will be without some of the biggest stars.

Notably, Valkyrae and QTCinderella said they were “afraid” to attend the event and will be staying home due to safety issues. QT in particular cited a situation where a creator was stabbed to death in Japan.

While Twitch CEO Dan Clancy dismissed the concerns, stating that they take security “extremely seriously” and prevent users who are banned on the platform from attending, it has done little to change opinions.

On September 29, political streamer Hasan revealed he too, will be ditching TwitchCon 2025, seemingly referencing the assassination of Charlie Kirk as the catalyst for his decision.

Hasan backs out of TwitchCon 2025

In response to a fan who said they miss the “social Hasan era,” the streamer explained that he believes his appearance could put the whole event in danger.

“There is, unfortunately, an obvious setback there. One, all the political incidents that have taken place. And two, how those political incidents have had pretty significant consequences in how much I can go out in the real world and socialize with other people,” he said.

On September 10, right-wing YouTuber and political activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated while speaking at Utah Valley University.

According to Hasan, that means he won’t be going to TwitchCon, but claims it’s not because he’s afraid of his own safety.

Article continues after ad

“I’m literally not going to TwitchCon because I’m afraid of the safety of others. I don’t want to put them in the f**king crosshairs if some psycho freak decides, ‘I’m gonna go there.’ I’m very publicly not going to TwitchCon for that reason.”

Hasan has had a controversial history on Twitch. In 2024, he showed a video about the Houthi Movement to fellow Twitch streamer Nmp, which sparked considerable backlash from viewers. The group has been designated as a Terrorist Organization by the US State Department.

The site’s CEO, Dan Clancy, also faced calls by Democratic Rep. Ritchie Torres to “stop popularizing those who popularize antisemitism,” singling out Hasan’s content, specifically.

Meanwhile, fellow Twitch streamer Asmongold has urged women not to attend TwitchCon and took aim at the platform’s claims that it takes security seriously.

“Last year, nmplol and wake were sexually assaulted by a streamer and Twitch didn’t press charges or pursue any form of legal action against him,” he blasted. “If I was a woman, I would never go to TwitchCon.”

‘Trillions’ Meme Coin Surges to $60 Million Market Cap on Stablecoin Network Plasma

by admin September 29, 2025

In brief

  • Stablecoin network Plasma has meme coins now after entering “mainnet beta” last week.
  • The Trillions token hit a $60 million market cap on Sunday, before falling sharply.
  • It references a meme at the foundation of the Plasma thesis, predicting the total stablecoin market cap to be in the trillions of dollars.

A meme coin deployed on the Plasma stablecoin network peaked at a $60 million market capitalization on Sunday. It follows Plasma hitting “mainnet beta” last week, attracting $5.5 billion in total value locked, and its XPL token soaring to a $2.3 billion market cap.

The Trillions token is based on a meme at the core of the Plasma thesis, with the project referencing it as early as December 2024. However, it wasn’t until February 2025 that the meme took off both internally and externally, a Plasma representative told Decrypt before the network hit mainnet.

White House AI and Crypto Czar David Sacks said that stablecoins could create “trillions of dollars of demand for U.S. treasuries,” due to tokens often purchasing treasuries for their reserves. Plasma simply reposted this clip in February saying “trillions,” and it went viral despite the network having a small following at the time. A meme was born.

Plasma is a layer-1 network that’s optimized for stablecoin transactions, such as gasless USDT transfers. However, it is still a permissionless blockchain, meaning that anyone can build on top of it. And, with its “mainnet beta” launch being an apparent success, crypto degens have flocked to the stablecoin network to trade meme coins.

And it’s not only the Trillions token that has hit a market cap in the millions: other Plasma meme coins like Bankless, dog-themed coin Luna, and a Pepe clone have also soared. It appears that most of these coins are being created on the multi-chain launchpad, DyorSwap.

Despite the meme coin buzz, Plasma declined to comment as the project does not endorse meme coins on the chain. However, a Plasma representative previously explained to Decrypt how the trillions meme originated and evolved.

Following Sacks saying “trillions” and the Plasma post going viral, the company decided to embrace the meme. It became a way for Plasma employees to sign off social media posts and hype each other up—akin to the Milady cult signing off posts with “Milady.”

The trillions meme later evolved to also include “pre-trillions,” a Plasma representative previously explained, as a nod to the pre-rich meme that had taken over the crypto community.

When Plasma entered mainnet beta last week, users celebrating their XPL airdrop on social media adopted the “trillions” kicker. That same day, the Trillions meme coin was created, bubbling below a $10 million market cap before exploding to $60 million on Sunday. It has since plunged to an $18 million market cap, according to DEX Screener.

XPL, Plasma, with an unexpected airdrop of 5 figs to discord community members

Trillions

— Loopify 🧙‍♂️ (@Loopifyyy) September 18, 2025

Such a market cap is notable in the current meme coin landscape, with activity in the Solana trenches hitting a six-month low. It comes as crypto traders look to highly leveraged perp futures bets to feed their taste for degenerate trades.

Jokes aside, Plasma believes that the stablecoin industry will grow to be worth trillions of dollars, and hopes to host a sizable chunk of that. Less than a week after its debut, per DefiLlama, Plasma is the fifth-largest network for stablecoins ahead of the likes of Hyperliquid, Aptos, and Base.

At the time of writing, according to DefiLlama, the total stablecoin market cap is $297 billion, meaning a 236% increase is needed for a trillion-dollar valuation to be achieved.

MSI Stealth A16 AI+: Design

  • Thin and light for its size
  • OLED display is fantastic
  • Good selection of ports

The Stealth A16 AI+ features a sleek and understated design, perfect for both professional environments and gaming setups. Its chassis feels robust yet surprisingly lightweight, making it an excellent companion for those who need to work or play on the go.

The narrow bezels around the display add to its modern aesthetic and maximize screen real estate, drawing you deeper into your content.

MSI has been generous with port selection, ensuring you’re well-connected without the constant need for adapters.

You’ll find a versatile array of ports, including multiple USB-A and USB-C ports, an HDMI output for external displays, and an Ethernet port for reliable wired internet.

This comprehensive connectivity is a significant advantage, especially for gamers who need a load of peripherals or frequently switch between setups. However, if you’re hoping to run a streaming setup from this laptop you may need a USB adaptor so you can hook up a webcam and microphone too (though the included webcam and mic array do a fine job if you’re not planning on doing professional-level streaming).

The OLED screen itself is a highlight, offering vibrant colors and sharp detail that enhance everything from those AAA story games to high-definition movies. Its ample size provides an immersive viewing experience, whether you’re deep into a creative project or enjoying a casual browsing session. The more I use OLED screens, the more I wish they would become the industry standard.

Despite its large screen, the overall size and weight of the Stealth A16 AI+ remain impressively manageable for a gaming laptop at less than 2cm thick. It’s also relatively lightweight when compared to alternative gaming laptops on the market at 2.1kg – for example, the MSI Raider A18 HX comes in at 3.6kg.

MSI Stealth A16 AI+: Performance

  • Excellent gaming performance
  • Good at multitasking
  • Can get hot

Benchmarks

These are the results of our benchmarking tests for the MSI Stealth A16 AI+:

3DMark: Night Raid: 38,762; Fire Strike: 30,723; Time Spy: 13,384
GeekBench 6: 2,930 (single-core); 15,398 (multi-core)
CrossMark: Overall: 1,897 Productivity: 1,982 Creativity: 1,765 Responsiveness: 1,729
Total War: Warhammer III (1080p, Ultra): 176fps ; (1080p, Low): 380fps
Cyberpunk 2077 (1080p, Ultra): 105fps ; (1080p, Low): 176fps
Dirt 5 (1080p, Ultra): 206fps ; (1080p, Low): 287fps
PCMark 10 Battery Life: 4 hours 57 mins
TechRadar movie test: 4 hours 45 mins

During our testing, this laptop consistently delivered exceptional performance across a variety of demanding applications and, crucially, in the latest AAA gaming titles.

Whether it was playing Cyberpunk 2077 at ultra settings or engaging in fast-paced combat in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, the Stealth A16 AI+ maintained impressively high frame rates, ensuring a smooth and immersive experience.

This was with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti inside, so if you buy a model with the more powerful RTX 5080 or 5090 GPUs, then you’re going to get even better gaming performance.

I was able to render breathtaking visuals without a hitch. Even with ray tracing enabled, the laptop held its own, providing a stunning level of graphical fidelity that truly elevates the gaming experience.

Beyond gaming, the processor handled intensive multitasking and content creation with ease, making it a truly versatile machine for power users.

One thing to note is that the laptop did get quite hot and loud when running games at ultra, opening a lot of intensive programmes at once, or when benchmarking. While it wasn’t too hot to use the keyboard – an issue I’m seeming to face more and more in the world of gaming laptops, it was certainly worth noting.

The speakers on the laptop are decent – they certainly get the job done – but you won’t be able to take advantage of directional audio within games.

MSI Stealth A16 AI+: Battery life

  • Not brilliant battery life
  • Very short when gaming

While MSI promised up to 13 hours of video playback, I found that the Stealth A16 AI+ just didn’t deliver anywhere near this.

During my time testing the MSI Stealth A16 AI+, I noticed that the battery life was closer to around six hours when using the laptop for general browsing or watching videos, which came down to about an hour when playing intensive games.

In our battery life benchmark, we got just shy of five hours in both the PCMark 10 edition and our own TechRadar movie test.
