Eric Adams, New York’s Crypto-Friendly Mayor, Won’t Seek 2nd Term

by admin September 30, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

New York Mayor Eric Adams has announced that he would end his campaign for a second term, saying he could no longer mount a viable run.

According to his statement, the withholding of public matching funds and persistent questions about his legal past left the campaign without the money or momentum it needed.

Adams will remain in office until January 1, 2026, and his name will still appear on the November 4, 2025, ballot because the deadline to remove it has already passed.

Campaign Funds And Legal Shadows

Reports have disclosed that the city Campaign Finance Board paused matching payments to Adams’s bid, a move he said crippled fundraising.

He also faces a cloud from an indictment brought in 2024; he has pleaded not guilty. In 2025, the Department of Justice moved to drop the case, an action that drew sharp attention and allegations of political influence by critics.

— Eric Adams (@ericadamsfornyc) September 28, 2025

Adams told supporters that the steady stream of questions about his legal future made it impossible to run a serious campaign. Polls showed him trailing key rivals, and donors became hesitant.

A Pro-Crypto Mayor’s Exit Could Shift Policy

Adams had positioned New York as welcoming to cryptocurrency firms and blockchain projects. According to media coverage, he pushed for measures such as a municipal Bitcoin bond and changes to the city’s BitLicense rules to make them more industry friendly.

Those efforts helped craft his image as a pro-crypto mayor. With him stepping back, the fate of those policies is less certain. Supporters in the crypto sector worry that momentum could slow without his voice in City Hall, while opponents say any successor may push for tighter consumer protections.

The Race Reconfigured

Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic primary and now leads in general election polls. Andrew Cuomo, who lost the primary, is running as an independent and could pick up votes from those uneasy about Mamdani.

Curtis Sliwa remains the Republican contender. Adams did not endorse any candidate when he withdrew. Analysts say his exit may consolidate some anti-Mamdani voters around Cuomo, though nothing is guaranteed.

What The Withdrawal Means For Voters

Voters face a shorter list of clear choices. Adams argued that constant scrutiny and a lack of campaign funds left him with little option but to step aside.

He warned of “insidious forces” using government power to push division, language that sent ripples through local politics.

City officials and activists will now press the remaining candidates to lay out plans on jobs, housing, public safety, and how they would handle the growing but contested crypto sector in the city.

Silent Hill f Achieves 1 Million Copies Sold In Less Than A Week

by admin September 30, 2025

Silent Hill f has already achieved a major sales milestone less than a week after its September 25 launch. The new mainline entry has already crossed the 1 million sales mark.

Konami states the 1 million sales number reflects digital and physical copies across all platforms since September 26. That means Silent Hill f achieved this milestone in four days. This early sales success complements a very positive critical reception to the game; Silent Hill f currently boasts an 86 percent critical score on Metacritic.  Silent Hill f is the first mainline entry in the series in over a decade, and unfolds in a rural Japanese village during the 1960s. It stars a teenage girl named Hinako who must fight for survival after a sinister fog sweeps through her town and transforms its residents into monsters.

These sales numbers must be especially reassuring for Konami as it continues its successful resurrection of the popular horror IP, following last year’s also well-received Silent Hill 2 remake. In terms of the series’ future,  Konami still has the mysterious Silent Hill: Townhall from Observation developer No Code and co-published by Annapurna Interactive. Most recently, Konami announced that a remake of the first Silent Hill game is in development. There’s Return to Silent Hill, a film adaptation of Silent Hill 2, which recently premiered its first trailer.

For more on Silent Hill f, you can read our review here. You can also listen to a few Game Informer editors discuss the game in this episode of The Game Informer Show podcast.

YouTuber reports battery swelling caused Galaxy Ring to get stuck on his finger

by admin September 30, 2025

Sometimes when a device fails, it fails in spectacular fashion. Daniel Rotar, who leads the ZONEofTECH YouTube channel, posted on X today that the battery on his Samsung Galaxy Ring began swelling while he was wearing it. “I cannot take it off and this thing hurts,” he wrote. A few hours later, Rotar posted again that he had gone to a hospital and received help to remove the smart ring. He also shared photos of the device that showed the swelling on the interior surface.

We reached out to Samsung for comment and received this statement from a spokesperson: “The safety of our customers is a top priority and we are in direct contact with this user to learn more about their concerns. While experiences like this are extremely rare, there are a few ways to attempt removing a stuck ring, including soap and water – or submerging your hand in cold water. If these methods do not work, additional information is provided on our Samsung Support page.”

Current technologies aren’t perfect and a device’s battery can fail. When that happens, trapped gasses and heat can cause the battery to swell. It’s not a common problem, but it is a known one. There’s even a whole Reddit community dedicated to the phenomenon of these “spicy pillows.” So here’s a recurring reminder that if you’ve got old gadgets you aren’t using, consider recycling them before they potentially reach this sort of fail state.

Crypto AML Firm Notabene Introduces Compliance Platform for Stablecoin Payments

by admin September 30, 2025

Cryptocurrency anti-money laundering (AML) specialist Notabene has introduced Notabene Flow, a stablecoin payment platform designed for high-value business transactions.

Notabene, a firm focused on bringing compliance to crypto transactions, such as applying the so-called “Travel Rule,” said its platform adds features long absent from crypto rails in an emailed statement on Monday. These include payment authorization, invoicing and dispute resolution, to make stablecoin transfers viable.

Institutional firms such as Zodia Custody, Bitso and Borderless are among the initial adopters, looking to combine stablecoin speed with compliance standards familiar to traditional finance (TradFi).

There’s a lot happening around stablecoin payments at the moment, including the announcement this week that Swift, the long-established interbank messaging platform, will unveil its own blockchain-based stablecoin system for payments.

An obstacle to stablecoin payments is that most crypto transactions are “push-only,” leaving businesses without safeguards to reverse payments or block fraud, Notabene said. The firm’s new application introduces pull payments, recurring billing and standardized coordination between verified participants, backed by the company’s network of 2,000+ regulated entities.

The platform relies on the Transaction Authorization Protocol, an open standard that functions rather like a Swift-style messaging layer. Notabene partnered with the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF), a way of achieving entity verification anchored to the internationally recognized LEI standard, giving every participant a reliable foundation of counterparty trust.

“Cross-border B2B payments have always been slow, expensive, and complex,” Pelle Braendgaard, Notabene CEO said. “Stablecoins are the first real opportunity to change that, but these high-value payments need a trust framework to succeed at scale. Notabene Flow delivers that framework.”

Crypto Market Prediction: Shiba Inu (SHIB) Moon Landing, Dogecoin (DOGE) Trapped in $0.23, XRP: Most Important Event for $3

by admin September 30, 2025

The market’s state right now is quite unexpected: multiple assets are trying to break through. However, there is not much bullish volume consolidation out there.

Key SHIB support

The much-discussed moon for Shiba Inu is not about prices soaring, rather, it is a significant historical ground support level that has repeatedly supported the token. SHIB is now trading close to $0.0000119, where it is pressed up against the lower edge of its long-running symmetrical triangle — where support has frequently been the final floor.

SHIB/USDT Chart by TradingView

When SHIB returns to its most crucial support zone, it is said to be moon landing. This level could either stabilize the market or pave the way for further declines. The chart structure of SHIB shows a narrowing triangle made up of stable well-defended support at $0.0000110-$0.0000115 and lower highs since August. Since each test has generated a lot of buyer interest in recent months, this area has essentially turned into SHIB’s moon base.

If bulls maintain this hold, they may be able to lay the groundwork for a subsequent attempt toward the pattern’s upper boundary, which is located closer to $0.0000140-$0.0000150. In the short term, however, moving averages are bearish. By hovering over the current price action, the 100-day and 200-day EMAs serve as layers of overhead resistance.

Momentum indicators, such the RSI — which is in the mid-40s and lacks directional conviction — support the fragile state. A decrease in trading volume also reflects participant hesitancy. SHIB could lose its moon ground support, which would be dangerous.

Prices could drop into the $0.0000090-$0.0000100 range, which would be levels not seen since the early summer, if there was a clear break below $0.0000110, invalidating the triangle. On the other hand, SHIB has a chance to rise again as long as the base holds and any advance above the descending resistance line could lead to a brief rally.

Dogecoin’s tense range

Dogecoin is currently trading in a tight and tense range around $0.23, and the market is giving the indication that a significant move may be imminent. DOGE has now settled into a compressed zone, situated directly between critical moving averages following a retracement from its late-September highs located around $0.30. Often, explosive volatility comes after this tight setup.

Shorter-term averages like the 20-day and 50-day EMAs also cluster close to DOGE, which is currently pinned between the 100-day EMA and the 200-day EMA on the chart. This effectively traps price action by creating a congestion zone. Traders are keeping a close eye on things because momentum could pick up speed as soon as DOGE decides on a course out of this compression. According to the bearish argument, thinning volumes and recurrent rejections from the $0.25-$0.26 region indicate waning bullish interest.

DOGE/USDT Chart by TradingView

If DOGE breaches the 200 EMA support at $0.22, downside targets might reach $0.20, the location of a prior accumulation base. The bullish scenario should not be discounted, though. In recent months, DOGE has consistently demonstrated resilience at these levels. A recovery could be triggered by holding above the 200 EMA, particularly if the price breaks through the overhead resistance at $0.24-$0.25.

Buyers might then retarget $0.28 and higher. At 45, the RSI is neutral, meaning that it can move in either direction without becoming overly stretched. In keeping with the calm-before-the-storm theory, volume has considerably decreased in comparison to previous surges.

Dogecoin is still in limbo at this time. The next trend will probably be determined by a clear break of either boundary, and given the current compression, volatility could skyrocket when the breakout occurs.

XRP’s decisive technical move

After battling under layered resistance for weeks, XRP demonstrated a decisive technical move by breaking above the 100-day EMA. As the first definite bullish signal since the decline in September, it prepares the market for a potential retest of the psychologically significant $3.00 level. However, there is still a significant obstacle in the way and the path ahead is still complicated.

Although recovering, the 100 EMA is a good place to start. XRP is currently getting close to the 50-day EMA. This level has historically served as bears’ more effective line of defense and frequently determines whether breakouts maintain momentum or quickly fade. XRP could make another attempt to reach the $3.00 region, where descending trendline resistance and psychological pressure converge, if it can create support above the 50 EMA.

Even with the technical advancement, volume is still very low, underscoring the lack of conviction in the current bounce. Based on the low participation, a lot of traders are holding off on investing money until there is a verified breakout or a more erratic trigger. XRP could stall at the 50 EMA and reenter the consolidation zone around $2.80-$2.85 in the absence of more robust buying pressure.

The bullish argument is based on XRP staying above the 100 EMA and breaking through the 50 EMA fast. By drawing in sidelined buyers, such a move might quicken momentum and prepare a run to $3.00 and possibly $3.20.

But in the bearish scenario, the 50 EMA would be rejected and there would be fresh downward pressure heading toward the 200 EMA at $2.65, which has frequently served as deeper support. At this point, XRP is going through its most significant event in months at $3. When volume breaks above the 50 EMA, bulls will take back control. If this goes wrong, the rally could end up being another false start.

Alphabet will pay $22 million to settle President Trump’s YouTube lawsuit

by admin September 30, 2025

Alphabet will pay President Donald Trump $22 million as part of a settlement in a class action lawsuit brought against the company over the suspension of various YouTube accounts following the January 6 riot at the US capital, as first reported by the Wall Street Journal. The suit includes other plaintiffs whose YouTube channels were banned that will split an additional $2.5 million in settlement payouts.

Trump filed the suit in 2021, alongside lawsuits against Twitter and Facebook over similar suspensions, claiming they infringed on his first amendment rights. Twitter, now known as X since its acquisition and rebrand by Elon Musk, paid President Trump roughly $10 million to settle that suit. Meta also settled its suit with the president over his suspension from the platform for $25 million earlier this year.

This settlement comes shortly after Alphabet wrote a letter to the House Judiciary Committee lambasting government pressure to moderate content on its platforms. The company also shared that YouTube would be offering a path to reinstatement for accounts previously banned for COVID-19 or election integrity related misinformation.

The settlement from Alphabet will be paid to the Trust for the National Mall, a nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, and will be earmarked for construction of the ballroom that President Trump is building at The White House. The monies from the Meta settlement were similarly earmarked.

This summer Paramount, parent company of CBS, settled a lawsuit brought by the president over claims that the network intended to “confuse, deceive and mislead the public” by editing an interview with Kamala Harris. The media company paid $16 million to settle the president’s suit. Three weeks later the FCC approved the $8 billion acquisition of Paramount by Skydance.

Bitcoin Whale Awakens After 12 Years to Move $44 Million in BTC

by admin September 29, 2025

In brief

  • An old address holding 400 Bitcoin worth over $44 million has moved their “digital gold.”
  • The coins had sat in the digital wallet since November 2013. Bitcoin is up 16,000% since then.
  • A growing number of “Satoshi-era” investors have moved their Bitcoin in recent months with BTC steadily above $100K.

Another long-term Bitcoin investor is back in action and making moves.

Data from Arkham Intelligence shows that an address holding over $44 million in digital coins made a transaction after 12 years of dormancy.

Sunday was the first time the 400 Bitcoin had been touched since they arrived in the digital wallet in November 2013— just four years after the oldest blockchain came to life.

Back then, the price of Bitcoin stood at around $720, according to CoinGecko. It’s now trading for over $114,000—a nearly 16,000% rise. As is often the case, it’s unclear who owns the wallet, as such personally identifying information isn’t included on the blockchain.

Back in 2013, the lowest price the oldest cryptocurrency touched was a mere $13. It soared to over $1,132 by the end of the year.

Old addresses holding such large amounts of Bitcoin likely belong to miners—people or companies—who started minting new coins during the digital asset’s early years.

Back then, new coins could be produced using desktop computers. But now in the increasingly industrialized Bitcoin mining world, companies use warehouses full of computers to process transactions on the crypto network.

A number of big, long-term Bitcoin holders—known as “whales”—have started moving coins this year as the cryptocurrency dubbed “digital gold” trades comfortably above $100,000. Such moves have, in the past, spooked markets, as traders largely interpret such reactivations of old wallets as an intention to sell off the stash.

At the moment, market sentiment on Bitcoin has once again flipped bullish, with users on Myriad—a prediction market developed by Decrypt’s parent company Dastan—now favoring a move to $125K over a drop to $105K at nearly 58%. Those odds had dropped as low as 29% just yesterday.

Back in July, a whale sold more than 80,000 Bitcoin—over $9 billion at the time—after holding the coins for 14 years. Analysts were initially puzzled, but institutional crypto firm Galaxy later revealed it had executed the sale for the unidentified Satoshi-era investor.

Battlefield 6's live action trailer is its biggest jab at Call of Duty yet, makes a point out of blowing up Zac Efron

Battlefield 6’s live action trailer is its biggest jab at Call of Duty yet, makes a point out of blowing up Zac Efron

by admin September 29, 2025

A new live action Battlefield 6 trailer has been released which takes shots at Call of Duty’s celebrity-focused marketing strategy, introducing a squad of household names including actor Zac Efron before quickly blowing them up.

This squad, which also features basketball player Jimmy Butler, country singer Morgan Wallen, and MMA fighter Paddy Pimblett walk across a ravaged bridge to Smashing Pumpkin’s The World Is A Vampire. They all represent one of the classic Battlefield specialist classes, with weapons covered in colourful camos and charms.

After Zac Efron and his crew explode, they are replaced with a collection of standard looking modern military soldier types take their place and engage in typical video game live action trailer shenanigans. It’s a two-birds with one stone affair where EA has clearly taken a little pot shot at its largest competitor, while also highlighting several key selling points for Battlefield 6 – those being a lack of gaudy cosmetics and the death of a limiting specialist system.

Here’s the launch trailer for Battlefield 6!Watch on YouTube

Battlefield 6 has proved exceptionally popular judging by its open beta tests, and has established itself as a real competitor to Call of Duty this year. It’s done so by tackling many problems FPS players have had with Call of Duty for several installments now – those being the prevalence of crossover and cameo skins, as well as a shift away from its modern military roots (at least as far as the multiplayer is concerned).

EA and Battlefield Studios recently showed off the campaign in a recent Sony State of Play, which is sticking true to the modern military presentation people seem to be craving, whereas Black Ops 7 is diving into a more mind-bending space with its campaign. It’s a real clash for the hearts and minds of FPS lovers, with Battlefield 6 on track to do the best the series has ever done in the dustup.

Earlier today, EA announced it is to be acquired by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, investment firms Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners for $55bn. Now a private company, the deal was financed with roughly $36bn from the trio and $20bn worth of debt. This deal marks the largest all-cash sponsor take-private investment in history according to EA’s official press release on the matter.

Small but perfectly formed, the De’Longhi Dedica Duo is my new favorite entry-level espresso machine

We spend hours testing every product or service we review, so you can be sure you’re buying the best. Find out more about how we test.

De’Longhi Dedica Duo: two-minute review

The De’Longhi Dedica Duo is an excellent entry-level espresso machine that looks great and performs extremely well, despite its modest price tag.

It has a similar appearance to its predecessor, the De’Longhi Dedica Style, but with some key improvements – including a wider drip tray that can accommodate two espresso cups. The steam wand has been upgraded with a cool-touch handle and a knurled control dial for better grip, and the machine is available in a choice of four colors (including three gelato-inspired pastel shades).

The Dedica Duo’s accessories, such as the color-coordinated portafilter handle, feel robust. It comes with two pressurized portafilter baskets, a coffee scoop, a pin tool, a descaler pack, a tamper, and a stainless-steel milk pitcher. The water tank is easily accessible at the back, with a hinged lid to keep water fresh, and it can be fitted with an optional water filter.

The machine is operated by illustrated buttons on top for single shot, double shot, cold brew, and steam. Colored lights on these buttons indicate the machine’s status, requiring reference to the manual for full understanding.

  • De’Longhi Dedica Duo at Amazon for $249.95

Although it takes a little while to heat up, the Dedica Duo delivers a good shot with a fine grind consistently. There is some minor dripping after the pump finishes due to the absence of a three-way solenoid valve.

The Dedica Duo’s cold-extraction mode, while slower than preparing hot espresso, is much faster than traditional overnight cold-brewing and produces a full, mellow flavor. This cold brew is versatile, suitable for drinking straight, with milk and ice, or in blended drinks and cocktails.

My only real complaint is that the system of lights to indicate the machine’s current status and any problems (such as scale, or air in the system) can be confusing, and you’ll find yourself having to refer back to the manual quite regularly while you’re getting a handle on things. Other than that, though, this is an easy machine to recommend and worthy of a full five stars.

De’Longhi Dedica Duo: price and availability

  • Released in August 2025
  • List price of $299.95 / £279.99 (about AU$600)
  • Sold in the UK and US, but not yet in Australia

The De’Longhi Dedica Duo launched in August 2025 with a list price of $299.95 / £279.99. At the time of writing (September 2025), it isn’t yet available in Australia, but hopefully that will change soon.

At that price, it’s one of the most affordable espresso machines I’ve tested in the past year. The Casabrews 5418 Pro is in the same entry-level bracket with a list price of $299.99 (about £220 / AU$460), but it’s clear that Casabrews has cut quite a lot of corners, and it can’t compete with the Dedica Duo for build quality and performance.

Today’s best De’Longhi Dedica Duo deals

De’Longhi Dedica Duo: design

  • Updated design with refined details and new colors
  • Wider drip tray to accommodate two espresso cups
  • Accessories feel substantial and well made

The De’Longhi Dedica Duo is a compact, smart-looking espresso machine. At first glance it bears a strong similarity to its predecessor, the Dedica Style. It’s almost exactly the same size, but on closer inspection you’ll notice lots of refinements and improvements.

Most noticeably, the Dedica Duo comes in an updated range of colors, with classic stainless steel accompanied by soft shades of white, pink and green, which De’Longhi says were inspired by different flavors of gelato. Candy-colored appliances have become increasingly popular in 2025, and they look good, with a satin finish rather than gloss.

Image 1 of 2

For me, one of the most notable updates is to the drip tray, which is now considerably wider, making it easier to fit two espresso cups underneath the portafiter when pulling a double shot. If you have a particularly tall cup, you can remove the stainless steel grille and place the cup directly on a removable ridged plate at the bottom of the tray. A nice touch, and one that helps make clean-up easier.

The steam wand now has a cool-touch handle, which is a nice upgrade, and its control dial sports a knurled texture that looks good and provides extra grip. The wand doesn’t bend, but it does pivot, and its angle makes it easy to achieve a good whirlpool movement when texturizing your milk.

Image 1 of 2

All of the Dedica Duo’s accessories feel robust in the hand, unlike those of some other entry-level coffee machines I’ve tested recently (I’m looking at you, Casabrews). The portafilter handle is satisfyingly weighty, with a textured end that matches the steam wand dial, and is colored to match the body of the machine.

You get two pressurized portafilter baskets (one for single shots and one for doubles), a coffee scoop, a pin tool for clearing the hole of the steam wand if it becomes blocked, a pack of descaler, a weighty tamper that makes it easy to put sufficient pressure on your ground, and a stainless steel milk pitcher (with a fine spout ideal for pouring latte art).

The machine’s water tank slides onto the back, and has a sturdy-feeling hinged lid to keep water fresh. It can also be fitted with an optional water filter, but this needs to be purchased separately. The tank lifts out easily and is simple to slot back into place. You’ll need to pull the machine away from the wall to do this, but it’s so small and light, this shouldn’t present a problem.

The Dedica Duo has a power switch on its right-hand side, and is operated using a set of illustrated buttons on top: single shot, double shot, cold brew, and steam. Pressing combinations of these buttons, or pressing and holding, provides access to certain menus, and the colored lights on them give you information about the machine’s current status, so it’s useful to keep the manual on hand for reference. For example, a solid white light on only the steam button means there’s probably air in the system that needs clearing.

De’Longhi Dedica Duo: performance

  • Steady pressure for consistently extracted hot espresso
  • Cold-extraction works well, too, producing a smooth flavor
  • System of indicator lights can be confusing

The Dedica Duo is an excellent entry-level espresso machine, providing the steady pressure necessary for preparing consistently good coffee. The Casabrews 5418 Pro I reviewed a few weeks ago was so variable, it had me questioning whether I actually knew how to make espresso at all; the Dedica Duo has restored my faith in my own abilities. It takes a little while to heat up, but once it does, and the espresso buttons on top are illuminated, you can be confident that you’re going to get a very good shot. I’ve been using a fairly fine grind for my coffee, and the results have been faultless.

There’s no three-way solenoid, so you can expect a little dripping after the pump has finished, but that certainly isn’t the end of the world.

The Dedica Duo’s star feature is cold extraction, and it works very well. Whereas some other espresso machines I’ve tested recently create “chilled” drinks by asking you to fill a cup with ice and then dumping a shot of hot espresso on top, the Duo’s cold brew mode bypasses the Thermoblock heater and uses ambient-temperature water direct from the tank.

This takes longer than brewing hot espresso (measured in minutes rather than seconds), but it’s still a lot faster than preparing cold-brewed coffee in the traditional way (by infusing the grounds in the fridge overnight), yet the resulting flavor profile is very similar. The flavor is full and rounded, but more mellow than the same coffee extracted hot. Whether you drink it straight, add milk and ice, or use it in blended drinks and cocktails, it’s very tasty.

Image 1 of 3

(Image credit: Future)(Image credit: Future)(Image credit: Future)

It’s worth noting that the Dedica Duo isn’t a quiet machine. Unlike some advanced machines from the likes of KitchenAid or Jura, the Duo has no space in its compact chassis for sound-deadening material, so you’ll be able to hear its pump working away at full volume. Pumping water doesn’t take very long, though; but if you’re sensitive to noise then it’s something to be aware of.

For me, the only disadvantage of the Dedica Duo is the system of lights that change colour and/or blink to indicate your machine’s status or any problems. These aren’t always self-explanatory, and until you’ve learned what they all mean, you’ll find yourself referring back to the manual regularly. Perhaps it would be better to have a small row of status lights for common issues in the interest of clarity.

De’Longhi Dedica Duo: also consider

If the De’Longhi Dedica Duo doesn’t sound like quite the right espresso machine for you, here are two alternatives in the same price bracket, both of which come highly recommended.

How I tested the De’Longhi Dedica Duo

I used the De’Longhi Dedica Duo for three weeks in place of my usual coffee machine, and brewed coffee using a blend of fresh Brazilian and Colombian arabica beans, freshly ground using a Sage Dose Control Pro grinder. I used the tamper provided with the machine to tamp the coffee. I tested the steam wand with chilled, full-fat dairy milk and oat milk.

I flushed the machine with hot water before and after brewing to make sure it was clean, and purged the steam wand and wiped it with a damp cloth after making each drink.

Hyper Light Drifter studio’s next game is a cyberpunk metroidvania with Smash Bros-inspired combat, out next month

by admin September 29, 2025

Heart Machine, the studio behind sci-fi Zelda-like Hyper Light Drifter, has a new metroidvania out next month called Possessor(s).

Publisher Devolver released a new gameplay overview trailer over the weekend revealing its PS5 and PC release date of 11th November.

Possessor(s) is a metroidvania (or “search action” game, as the developers are describing it) set in a quarantined cyberpunk city, with players taking the role of high school student Luca who’s struck a deal with a demon.

As with Hyper Light Drifter, the game is visually arresting, here a clean animated aesthetic as Luca explores a cityscape controlled by a corrupt energy megacorporation.

Combat, meanwhile, is inspired by Nintendo’s Smash Bros. fighting series. Luca will be able to juggle enemies with aerial attacks, with makeshift weapons ranging from a computer mouse, to a guitar and a pair of sunglasses.

It’s looking great, especially if it can live up to the exceptional quality of Hyper Light Drifter, though there’s stiff genre competition from Hollow Knight: Silksong at the moment.

Still, Heart Machine in January released a surprising miss with its roguelike Hyper Light Breaker that remains in early access, but has a Mixed rating on Steam. It’s still being regularly updated, though, with the studio acknowledging the “risk” of early access.
